Reinforced concrete is usually subjected to carbonation attack. Although it is a slow development pathology, the consequences can be high, precisely in the places with greater human, residential or industrial occupation. To make matters worse, carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere has been increasing due to the impact of climate changes and also to the growth of number of large cities. One of the ways to increase the resistance to carbonation attack may be through the application of concrete coatings. In fact, many current constructions have a protective skin on the concrete, often ignored in the durability design project. For these reasons, this research has looked into the efficiency of the coatings when applied on concrete. Priority was given to traditional unpainted coatings, with cementitious base, hydrated lime or both. A coating based on fly ash and a thin coating of cement were also tested. All of them were applied in an ordinary Portland cement concrete. Accelerated carbonation tests were performed and the results were excellent. It was observed that the performance of the coated concretes was, on average, about 65% better when compared to the uncoated concrete.

O uso de cinzas volantes no betão tem desempenhado um papel importante na redução do clínquer e, consequentemente, na redução da pegada ecológica referente à indústria do betão. No entanto, ainda persistem diversos desafios, pois apenas são utilizadas entre 30 a 40% das cinzas volantes disponíveis mundialmente. Um destes desafios é a quantificação da sua reatividade. Tradicionalmente, o potencial reativo das cinzas volantes é determinado pela sua composição em óxidos, que não tem em consideração o rácio entre a fase vítrea e a fase cristalina. De facto, a um maior teor de determinados óxidos, tais como o dióxido de silício, óxido de alumínio ou sesquióxido de ferro, entre outros, não representa, per si, uma maior reatividade. Também, o potencial reativo pode ser quantificado pelo índice de atividade por resistências mecânicas ou pelo método de Chapelle modificado, mas são baseados num determinado desempenho e não na sua constituição intrínseca. Este artigo descreve uma metodologia de dissolução seletiva, com ácido fluorídrico, para quantificar a fase vítrea (reativa) e a fase cristalina (não reativa). Foram usadas cinzas volantes da central termoelétrica do Pego e confrontaram-se os resultados com outros tipos de análises, tais como, FRX, XRD com refinamento de Rietveld e SEM. Validou-se a metodologia, para uma concentração de ácido fluorídrico de 1% com um tempo de exposição de 6 horas.

In this research, compositional and processing parameters were varied to obtain zeolites‐containing geopolymers using mainly biomass fly ash wastes. In addition to curing temperatures, another primary factor affecting the typologies of the resulting zeolites was composition. The mixture composition used in the synthesis crucially affects the nature of the zeolitic crystalline phases in the geopolymeric matrix. Using 10 mol/L NaOH solution, faujasite‐type zeolites produced in geopolymers show a surface area of ~100 m2/g (BET), while those prepared by 8 mol/L NaOH solution have a much lower surface area of ~19 m2/g. We report on the synthesis, sintering, and crystallization behaviors of a glass with a composition corresponding to 90 mol % CaMgSi
2 O6 -10 mol % NaFeSi2 O6 . The investigated glass composition crystallized superficially immediately after casting of the melt and needs a high cooling rate (rapid quenching) in order to produce an amorphous glass. Differential thermal analysis and hot-stage microscopy were employed to investigate the glass forming ability, sintering behavior, relative nucleation rate, and crystallization behavior of the glass composition. The crystalline phase assemblage in the glass-ceramics was studied under nonisothermal heating conditions in the temperature range of 850–950 °C in both air and N2 atmosphere. X-ray diffraction studies adjoined with the Rietveld–reference intensity ratio method were employed to quantify the amount of crystalline phases, while electron microscopy was used to shed some light on the microstructure of the resultant glass-ceramics. Well sintered glass-ceramics with diopside as the primary crystalline phase were obtained where the amount of diopside varied with the heating conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Abstract: The aim of the present study is to investigate the apatite formation process from glasses in the fluorapatite–diopside–anorthite–albite system. The effects of partial and total replacement of anorthite fraction by albite in the ternary composition 26 Ca5(PO4)3F−44 CaAl2Si2O8−30 CaMgSi2O6 (wt.%) on the properties of glasses and glass-ceramics were evaluated. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination of glasses revealed the precipitation of a nanosize droplet phase in the glassy matrices suggesting the occurrence of amorphous phase separation in all annealed glasses. An overall trend towards polymerization of the glass network with increasing albite content was demonstrated by employing MAS-NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were used to assess the effect of albite content on the devitrification process and formation of fluorapatite crystalline phase (Ca5(PO4)3F). Num momento em que a ind?stria ? cada vez mais pioneira na utiliza??o de novas tecnologias, a manufatura aditiva faz uso de um novo conjunto de ferramentas que vem tornar poss?vel materializar os conceitos de uma forma mais r?pida e complexa. A cer?mica n?o ? exce??o e novas formas de trabalhar este material possibilitam explorar caminhos que anteriormente se encontravam imposs?veis de alcan?ar. Tomando a cidade de Viana do Castelo como espa?o de a??o e analisando atrav?s de revis?o bibliogr?fica duas culturas, a material, onde se insere a Lou?a de Viana e a natural, onde ficam inseridas a fauna e flora da costa mar?tima da cidade, pretendeu-se encontrar uma forma de simbiose entre elas que permitisse a cria??o de produtos com uma nova linguagem formal suportada atrav?s da impress?o 3D. Num primeiro momento, procurou-se colmatar a falta de acesso a esta tecnologia, atrav?s do desenvolvimento de uma impressora 3D ao mesmo que se descobria esta tecnologia de uma forma experimental. Por fim, atrav?s do desenho, da produ??o e impress?o 3D de modelos foi poss?vel alcan?ar o resultado deste processo que comprova que, com a utiliza??o de tecnologias de manufatura aditiva, pode-se alcan?ar a execu??o de pe?as constitu?das por geometrias que eram imposs?veis de concretizar atrav?s de m?todos mais tradicionais. The present investigation aimed to understand to what extent additive manufacturing technologies can play a new aesthetic sense in the design of ceramic products. Ceramics have been present in our daily lives since the dawn of human beings, being an important milestone for understanding history and material culture, through which it is possible to report a considerable part of Man's experiences throughout his time. It remains to be seen what marks we will leave for the future through our work around ceramics with the entry of new technologies and what new aesthetic languages we will be able to achieve. At a time when the industry is increasingly pioneering the use of new technologies, additive manufacturing makes use of a new set of tools that makes it possible to materialize concepts in a faster and more complex way. Ceramics is no exception and new ways of working with this material make it possible to explore paths that were previously impossible to reach. Taking the city of Viana do Castelo as a space of action and analysing through a bibliographic review two cultures, the material one, where the Viana crockery is inserted and the natural one, where the fauna and flora of the maritime coast of the city are inserted, it was intended to find a form of symbiosis between them that would allow the creation of products with a new formal language supported by 3D printing. At first, we tried to overcome the lack of access to this technology, through the development of a 3D printer while discovering this technology in an experimental way. Finally, through the design, production and 3D printing of models, it was possible to achieve the result of this process that proves that, with the use of additive manufacturing technologies, it is possible to achieve the execution of parts consisting of geometries that were impossible to achieve. through more traditional methods.

Para este efeito cruzou-se o conceito do Design Prim?rio com o ?mbito dos materiais e estabeleceu-se uma parceria com duas empresas do Norte de Portugal ? Valued Optimized e a Cadeinor. A investiga??o culminou no desenho e no desenvolvimento dum sistema de produto de tipologia de pain?is ac?sticos para espa?os de trabalho e de aplica??o distintas como a parede, a mesa, o teto e o ch?o. Em termos metodol?gicos, este estudo assentou no m?todo emp?rico, misto com uma metodologia n?o intervencionista e intervencionista de base qualitativa e dividiu-se em cinco partes. A primeira parte, de base n?o intervencionista, compreendeu a interpreta??o de conceitos e na revis?o liter?ria e bibliogr?fica sobre temas da investiga??o, sobretudo temas e estudos de caso direcionados para o espa?o de trabalho. A segunda parte, de base intervencionista, consistiu em trabalho de campo e no reconhecimento das empresas parceiras. A terceira parte, igualmente intervencionista, residiu na parte experimental e na defini??o da ?pattern? painel como ?mbito experimental. Esta parte regista v?rios testes de simbiose da folha de pedra com outros materiais. A quarta fase, de base intervencionista, consistiu na cria??o de hip?teses de projeto e a gera??o das primeiras ideias do sistema de produto. Nesta etapa demonstrou-se o potencial da folha de pedra da empresa Valued Optimized quando aplicada a um produto pr?-existente da empresa Cadeinor. Na quinta e ?ltima parte descreveram-se todas as etapas efetuadas na elabora??o do produto, em conformidade com as a??es da empresa. Com esta investiga??o demonstrou-se a import?ncia da disciplina do design se relacionar com outras ?reas do conhecimento, como o ?mbito dos materiais, para acrescentar valor e bem-estar social. De igual modo, confirmou-se que o designer pode ser um agente de inova??o e de criatividade, na medida em que fomenta liga??es empresariais entre setores distintos e abre novos cen?rios de mercado. The present investigation aimed to fill the absence of social well-being in the workspaces, using the design process and interpreting a new material - the stone sheet - in the creation of new equipment scenarios. For this purpose, the concept of primary design was crossed with the scope of materials and a partnership was established with Valued Optimized and Cadeinor - two companies in the North of Portugal. The investigation culminated in the design and development of a product system of acoustic panel typology for different work and application spaces such as wall, table, ceiling and floor. In methodological terms, this study was based on the empirical method, mixed with a non-interventionist and qualitative interventionist methodology and was divided into five parts. The first part, with a non-interventionist basis, comprised the interpretation of concepts and the literary and bibliographic review on research topics, especially themes and case studies directed to the workspace. The second part, based on intervention, consisted of fieldwork and the recognition of partner companies. The third part, equally interventionist, resided in the experimental part and in the definition of the ?pattern? panel as an experimental scope. This part records several tests of symbiosis of the stone sheet with other materials. The fourth phase, based on intervention, consisted of creating design hypotheses and generating the first ideas of the product system. In this stage, the potential of the stone sheet from the company Valued Optimized was demonstrated when applied to a product from the company Cadeinor. In the fifth and last part, all the steps taken in preparing the product were described, in accordance with the company's actions. This investigation proved the importance of the discipline of design for the human being, its activities and social well-being and how the Designer can be a linker of innovation, of business connections between different sectors and a precursor of new market contexts.

Abstract: The effect of Al2O3 and K2O content on structure, sintering and devitrification behaviour of glasses in the Li2O–SiO2 system along with the properties of the resultant glass–ceramics (GCs) was investigated. Glasses containing Al2O3 and K2O and featuring SiO2/Li2O molar ratios (3.13–4.88) far beyond that of lithium disilicate (Li2Si2O5) stoichiometry were produced by conventional melt-quenching technique along with a bicomponent glass with a composition 23Li2O–77SiO2 (mol.%) (L23S77). The GCs were produced through two different methods: (a) nucleation and crystallization of monolithic bulk glass, (b) sintering and crystallization of glass powder compacts. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination of as cast non-annealed monolithic glasses revealed precipitation of nanosize droplet phase in glassy matrices suggesting the occurrence of phase separation in all investigated compositions. The extent of segregation, as judged from the mean droplet diameter and the packing density of droplet phase, decreased with increasing Al2O3 and K2O content in the glasses. The crystallization of glasses richer in Al2O3 and K2O was dominated by surface nucleation leading to crystallization of lithium metasilicate (Li2SiO3) within the temperature range of 550–900°C. On the other hand, the glass with lowest amount of Al2O3 and K2O and glass L23S77 were prone to volume nucleation and crystallization, resulting in formation of Li2Si2O5 within the temperature interval of 650–800°C. Sintering and crystallization behaviour of glass powders was followed by hot stage microscopy (HSM) and differential thermal analysis (DTA), respectively. GCs from composition L23S77 demonstrated high fragility along with low flexural strength and density. Abstract: Oxyfluoride glasses in the system CaO–MgO–BaO–SiO2–Al2O3–La2O3–CaF2 were obtained by adding CaF2 (3–8wt%) to a parent diopside based glass composition, Ca0.8Ba0.1MgAl0.1La0.1Si1.9O6. The characterization of the glasses has been made by density, dilatometry and FTIR measurements. Non-isothermal crystallization kinetic studies in conjunction with XRD and SEM have been employed in order to investigate the effects of fluoride ion additions on crystallization behaviour and mechanism of glasses. O projeto visa desenvolver a bicicleta, como um ve?culo alternativo, com utiliza??o destinada ? pr?tica do turismo, adequada ?s caracter?sticas da regi?o, envolvendo tamb?m quest?es relacionadas com a sua identidade cultural permitindo servir de apoio ? descoberta do local, suportado pela rela??o que se estabelece entre o utilizador, a bicicleta e as regi?es onde esta se insere. De modo a comprovar todos os interesses do projeto, procurou-se teoricamente, garantir e validar o desenvolvimento do trabalho, com recurso a bibliografia sobre as tem?ticas abordadas no trabalho, a dados estat?sticos e informa??o notici?ria atualizada, relativamente aos setores de foco do projeto, especificamente o turismo e a bicicleta. Numa segunda fase, o projeto passa pelo desenvolvimento pr?tico, processo, onde se usufruiu da colabora??o da ?rbita, uma das empresas mais conceituadas de produ??o de bicicletas a n?vel nacional, com objetivo de desenvolver novos conceitos da bicicleta atrav?s de um processo de tentativa-erro e metamorfose da forma, passando por sele??o de uma hip?tese satisfat?ria e estudos tridimensionais, finalizando com a prototipagem funcional do projeto. O projeto pretende responder ?s necessidades do utilizador, adaptando-se ?s caracter?sticas locais envolvendo materiais e elementos identificadores, assumindo o Design como v?nculo no desenvolvimento do produto. This project seeks to develop, within the framework of urban mobility, a new bicycle concept, suitable for the tourism setor, taking into account environmental issues and economic importance for the country. The project aims to develop the bicycle, as an alternative vehicle, designed and intended for the practice of tourism. It is able to fulfill all the requirements and characteristics of the region, as well as any elements related to its cultural identity allowing the discovery of the area, supported by the relationship established between the user, the bicycle, and the region where it is inserted. Based on theories, in order to prove all the interests of the project guarantying and validating the development of the work, and using as resources, bibliography on the topics addressed in the work, statistical data and updated news information, regarding the focus sectors of the project, specifically tourism and cycling. In a second phase, the project goes through the practical development, process, where the collaboration with ?rbita company, one of the most respected companies of bicycle production on national level, was used, with the goal of developing new bicycle concepts through a process of trial, error and metamorphosis of the form, passing through the selection of a satisfatory hypothesis and three-dimensional studies, ending with a functional prototyping of the project. The project aims to respond to the needs of the user, adapting to local characteristics involving materials and identifiers, taking Design as a link in product development.

Esta solu??o ? desenvolvida atrav?s do conceito pop-up space, analisando numa primeira fase a import?ncia que hoje em dia a ?rea dos eventos assume no panorama nacional, mais concretamente o festival ARTBEERFEST Caminha. Esta investiga??o aborda tamb?m a import?ncia do design de experi?ncia no ?mbito dos festivais internacionais e a sua mais valia na diferencia??o e cria??o de valor acrescentado dos mesmos. Assim como a import?ncia do design modular na conce??o de produtos capazes de se montarem facilmente em diferentes cen?rios, tornando-os vers?teis. Durante o desenvolvimento desta disserta??o ? poss?vel identificar a import?ncia do desenho como ferramenta projetual de relevo na conce??o de novos produtos, desde a fase da cria??o de esbo?os ? import?ncia de Daciano da Costa como pioneiro deste ensino em Portugal. O desenvolvimento do projeto teve como premissa o relacionamento com entidades da regi?o, de forma a criar novas conex?es entre o mundo acad?mico e o mundo empresarial. Por um lado, promovendo um relacionamento sustent?vel entre as v?rias entidades. Por outro lado, destacando os constrangimentos que existem na rela??o entre o mundo acad?mico e o mundo empresarial, no que diz respeito aos constantes desafios que da? emergem. No final, surge uma solu??o pop-up com duas variantes, que pretende demonstrar a import?ncia do conceito pop-up na ?rea dos eventos ef?meros, quer na diferencia??o pelo design e nas rela??es que se criam entre o produto e o p?blico presente nos festivais. The basis of this research is part of a proposal to develop a pop-up solution within the ephemeral events, which aims to protect against the climate agents, such as the rain and the sun. Furthermore, this solution is developed through the pop-up space concept by firstly analysing the importance role that the events area plays in today?s national overview, more specifically, the ARTBEERFEST Caminha festival. This research also addresses the importance of the experience design within the international festivals and its importance in the differentiation and creation of added values, as well as the importance of modular design, the production of products that can be easily assembled in different scenarios, making them versatile. During the development of this dissertation, it is possible to identify the importance of design as a project tool in the conception of new products, from the sketch creation phase up to the importance of Daciano da Costa as a pioneer of this teaching in Portugal. The development of this project had the relationship between entities of the region as a premise, to create new connections between the academic and the business world. On one hand, by promoting a sustainable relationship between the various entities. On the other hand, by emphasizing the constraints that exist between the academic and the business world, as far as the constant challenges that emerge. In the end, a pop-up solution with two variations arises, which aims to demonstrate the importance of the pop-up concept in the ephemeral events area, either in the differentiation by design or in the relationships that are created between the product and the audience present in the festivals.

Pretendeu-se nesta investiga??o que o foco principal fosse o material, desta forma, os v?rios tipos de folha de pedra foram submetidos a experimenta-??es que resultaram e evidenciaram a sua melhor aplicabilidade, tornando assim poss?vel a inova??o do material no ?mbito da ilumina??o. Foi de extrema import?ncia que ambos os prot?tipos conferissem e pre-servassem a identidade do material, facilitando a sua rela??o com a empresa. As carater?sticas est?ticas dos prot?tipos finais, garantidamente obtidas atrav?s da particular utiliza??o da folha de pedra, permitiu obter inovadores efeitos de ilu-mina??o, tornam-se uma mais-valia que poder? potenciar a futura comercializa-??o deste tipo de candeeiros. Finalmente, ? de destacar a capacidade de rela??o e aproxima??o da em-presa com a institui??o de ensino, que revelou ser um fator fundamental e um grande catalisador processual de todo o trabalho, revelando-se um excelente meio de partilha m?tua de conhecimento e informa??o. The present research arises from the need to develop new products based on a material - the leaf of stone - by the company ValueOptimized Lda. The pro-ject / dissertation had as its objective the elaboration of two lamps - objects of illumination - that had the capacity of efficiency in adapting the material to com-plex shapes. The pro forma forms are based on pre-designed structures that can serve as a starting point for other applications, with potential in the creation and development of a line of lighting objects for ValueOtpimi-zed. It was intended that the main focus was the material, in this way, the var-ious types of stone sheet were submitted to experiments that resulted and evi-denced their best applicability, thus making possible the innovation of the mate-rial in the scope of illumination. In this way, the uniqueness resulting from this research, with regard to the introduction of the stone sheet into lighting objects, is totally innovative in the sense that there is at present nothing in the market that can be comparable. It was of extreme importance that both prototypes confer and preserve the identity of the material, facilitating its relationship with the company. The aes-thetic characteristics of the final prototypes, guaranteed through the particular use of the stone sheet, allowed to obtain innovative effects of illumination, will become an added value that may enhance the future commercialization of this type of lamps. Finally, it is important to highlight the capacity of relation and approach of the company with the teaching institution, which proved to be a fundamental factor and a great process catalyst for all work, proving to be an excellent means of mutual knowledge sharing and information.

Pretende ainda, avaliar as capacidades tecnol?gicas dos sistemas CAD enquanto compet?ncia na pr?tica de projeto em Design, demonstrando-o atrav?s da apropria??o de software de modela??o 3D para a conce??o e materializa??o da proposta de tese. Na primeira parte faz-se o enquadramento hist?rico do sistema CAD no contexto ocidental, nomeadamente, explicando o seu papel determinante na concretiza??o de projetos complexos. Valida-se este aspeto, fundamentando com os casos de estudo ?Agr?nica? da Domus Academy, ?Virtual House? de Peter Eisenman e da empresa Almadesign utilizando autores como Bernhard B?rdek, Nigel Cross e J. C. Jones. Na segunda parte demonstra-se a import?ncia no desenvolvimento de sistemas de produto modulares como consequ?ncia da interpreta??o da modernidade l?quida (Bauman, 2000). Por um lado, o projeto constr?i-se atrav?s da apropria??o do projeto ?NmeeTon? como ponto de partida, sobretudo na rela??o com os perfis Bosch. Por outro lado, utilizam-se as uni?es t?picas da arquitetura japonesa como refer?ncia, adaptando-as para o desenvolvimento de um sistema construtivo mut?vel. Utiliza-se um processo de design em aberto baseado numa metodologia de tentativa/erro e verifica??o constante, e, no conceito de ?pattern language? de Christopher Alexander (1977). Finalmente, na terceira parte, validam-se as capacidades do projeto de investiga??o atrav?s da ministra??o de um workshop, que consistiu na aplica??o do sistema construtivo no desenvolvimento de propostas para o ?mbito do mobili?rio de escrit?rio utilizando o software ?Autodesk Fusion 360? como ferramenta de modela??o, comunica??o, acompanhamento e gest?o de projeto. O evento promoveu a conex?o de alunos de licenciatura do curso de Design do Produto do IPVC (participantes) com o setor empresarial, mais especificamente com a empresa Cadeinor. This research proposes the development of a modular construction system capable of adapting to the needs of the complex and fluid reality in which we live. It also intends to validate the technological capabilities of CAD systems as a competence in design practice, demonstrating it through the appropriation of 3D modeling software for the design and materialization of the thesis proposal. In the first part, the historical framework of the CAD system in the Western context is explained, namely, explaining its decisive role in the accomplishment of complex projects. This aspect is grounded on the case studies of ?Agr?nica? by Domus Academy, "Virtual House" by Peter Eisenman and the company Almadesign using authors such as Bernhard B?rdek, Nigel Cross and J. C. Jones. The second part demonstrates the importance in the development of modular product systems as a consequence of the interpretation of liquid modernity (Bauman, 2000). On the one hand, the project is built through the appropriation of the "NmeeTon" project as a starting point, especially in relation to the Bosch profiles. On the other hand, the joints, typical of the Japanese architecture, are used as reference, adapting them for the development of a changeable constructive system. An open design process based on a trial / error and constant verification methodology, and the concept of "pattern language" by Christopher Alexander (1977) is used. Finally, in the third part, the research project's capabilities are validated through the administration of a workshop, which consisted in the application of the constructive system in the development of proposals for office furniture using "Autodesk Fusion 360" software as a tool for Modeling, Communication, Monitoring and Project Management. The event promoted the connection of undergraduate students of the IPVC Product Design course (participants) with the business sector, more specifically with the company Cadeinor.

Mestrado em Design Integrado na Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gest?o do Instituto Polit?cnico de Viana do Castelo A presente disserta??o demonstra que o design contribui para a transforma??o essencial da sociedade e dos pa?ses em vias de desenvolvimento, sendo o um dos principais fatores promotores do desenvolvimento dos pa?ses em quest?o. A an?lise de produtos de aquecimento, foi a base para a estrutura??o e conce??o deste trabalho, assim como a idealiza??o de um fog?o a lenha que se caraterizasse como uma mais-valia para o mercado em que se vai inserir. O projeto Nmeeton realizado pelos alunos de Mestrado em Design Integrado do ano letivo 2014/2015 foi o percursor desta investiga??o, ao pr?-estabelecer uma parceria de colabora??o com a empresa metal?rgica Gamadaric, situada em Cesar, Oliveira de Azem?is. O presente estudo assenta em dois momentos, comprovados com estudos de caso, de modo a permitir e garantir a desej?vel valida??o do trabalho. Em primeiro lugar encontra-se um momento de cariz introdut?rio especificando a raz?o pela escolha do tema. Aborda-se ainda a componente te?rica, focando a cultura metal?rgica no design nos produtos de aquecimento. O produto industrial ? dirigido para os pa?ses em vias de desenvolvimento, pelo que se tentou destacar a import?ncia do design nesses pa?ses, procurando identificar as principais vantagens em termos de sustentabilidade e de inova??o. O segundo par?metro aborda a aplica??o da investiga??o efetuada e a respetiva fase projetual. Neste sentido, a metodologia e o modus operandi beneficiaram dos ensinamentos do designer Daciano Da Costa, que definiram o ?desenho? como a base do m?todo projetual de Design. ? a partir deste princ?pio que se inicia a conce??o de um novo produto. Finalmente, apresenta-se o processo fabrico do produto idealizado, que inclui um processo de sele??o de materiais e de tratamento de superf?cies, realizado com o aux?lio do programa CES EduPack. A inova??o da disserta??o est? presente num novo produto totalmente inovador para o consumidor final, permitindo substituir eficazmente o tradicional conjunto de pedras no ch?o para cozinhar. This dissertation reveals that design contributes to the essential transformation of society and the developing countries, being one of the main factors promoting the development of those countries. The analysis of heating products, was the basis for the structure and design of this work, as well as the idealization of a wood stove that would characterize as an added value for the market, in which it will be inserted. The Nmeeton project carried out by Design Integrado Master's students of the 2014/2015 academic year was the precursor of this research, by pre-establishing a collaboration partnership with the Gamadaric metallurgical company, located in Cesar, Oliveira de Azem?is. The present study is based on two main moments, which have always been confirmed with case studies, in order to allow and guarantee the desirable validation of the work. In the first step there is an introductory moment specifying the reason for the choice of theme. The theoretical component is also registered, focusing the metallurgical culture on design in the heating products. The industrial product is directed to the developing countries, so that it is focused in the importance of design in these countries, in order to realize the advantages on the sustainability and innovation design conception. The second parameter is attended in the application of the research carried out and the respective design project phase. In this sense, the methodology and the modus operandi benefited from the teachings of the Daciano Da Costa designer, who defined "drawing" as the basis of the design-project method. It is from this principle that the conception of a new product begins. Finally, the manufacturing process of the idealized product is presented, which also includes the process of material selection and surface treatment, supported by CES EduPack program. The innovation of this work is present in a new product totally innovative for the final consumer, allowing to effectively replace the traditional floor-set of stones for cooking.

34. Avaliação do potencial hidroelétrico : uso de SIG na bacia do Rio Lima

- Abstract
O estudo de Planeamento do Potencial Hidroelétrico surge com a necessidade de uma utilização racional dos recursos hídricos para a produção de energia elétrica, bem como a sua exploração sustentável. Este estudo pretende avaliar o Potencial Hidroelétrico para a Bacia Hidrográfica do Lima, baseando-se em de três fatores: Potencial Hídrico (modelo IRBM), Potencial Energético Relativo (acumulação de áreas contribuintes para o caudal e diferenças de cotas ao longo das linhas de água), e Explorabilidade Energética (avaliação da explorabilidade sustentável nas localizações detetadas). Com recurso à Análise Espacial, usando Ferramentas SIG, conclui-se que a Bacia Hidrográfica do Lima apresenta um Potencial Hídrico Bom em cerca de 71% do seu território, o que se traduz numa boa aptidão hídrica. Quando sobreposto o Potencial Energético Relativo sobre os Locais de Boas Aptidões Hídricas, os resultados evidenciaram que são as localizações presentes nos Concelhos de Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima, e as localizações mais a Norte do Concelho de Melgaço que reúnem as melhores condições de aproveitamento. Ao limitar o estudo aos fatores de Explorabilidade Energética, constatou-se que as localizações detetadas no Concelho de Melgaço apresentam muitas condicionantes à exploração sustentável, uma vez que se encontram inseridas no Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês e, por conseguinte, também se encontram afastadas da Rede Energética e com Baixa Densidade de Vias. O Potencial Energético Relativo aponta para o planeamento de recursos ao longo das linhas de água, no entanto para a implementação de Centrais Mini-Hídricas importa conhecer o Potencial Energético Absoluto. Este facto, leva à necessidade de validação e calibração do modelo articulado com dados quantitativos de caudal, apontando-se como proposta de trabalho futuro. The study of Hydroelectric Potential Planning comes with the need for rational use of water resources, for the production of electricity as well as for rational and sustainable exploitation. This study aims to evaluate the Hydroelectric Potential for Lima Basin, based on three factors: Hydric Potential (IRBM model), Energy Relative Potential (accumulation of taxpayers areas for flow and differences in elevations along the water lines), and Exploitability Energy (evaluation of sustainable exploitability in the detected locations). Using the Spatial Analysis (GIS Tools), it is concluded that the Lima Basin has a Hydric Potential good in about 71% of its territory, which translates into a good hydric conditions. When overlapping the Energy Relative Potential on Good Local Skills Hydro the results that i tis the present locations in, Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima, and the North of locations Melgaço together are the best use conditions. By limiting the study with Energy Exploitability factors it was observed that the detected locations in Melgaço have many constraints to sustainable exploitation, since they are embedded in the Peneda-Gerês National Park, and therefore are also apart Energy Lines and Low Way Density. The Energy Relative Potential induces planning resources along the water lines, however for the implementation of Small Hydro plants important know the Energy Absolute Potential. This leads need for validation and calibration on the working model with quantitative flow data, pointing up as a proposal for future work. Mestrado em Sistemas de Energias Renov?veis na Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gest?o do Instituto Polit?cnico de Viana do Castelo Este est?gio profissional, ao abrigo do programa de est?gios do Instituto de Emprego e Forma??o Profissional, em parceria com a empresa ENEOP 3 teve como objetivo elaborar um estudo sobre melhorias no processo produtivo, de modo a tornar esta empresa mais eficiente, ou seja, reduzir custos de produ??o, sem p?r em causa a qualidade final do produto. Este foi dividido em tr?s grandes fases, originando cada uma delas um projeto. O 1? Projeto, com dura??o prevista de dois meses, tem como objectivo determinar o n?mero de pessoas necess?rias para efetuar todas as manuten??es preventivas das m?quinas da unidade fabril ao longo de um ano. O 2? Projeto, com a mesma dura??o do anterior, tem como objetivo estudar solu??es de melhoria em componentes de alguns equipamentos que sofrem um maior desgaste, de modo a tentar reduzir os custos com as suas manuten??es. Por ?ltimo, numa terceira fase, para uma dura??o de quatro meses foi realizado um levantamento do sistema de aspira??o da empresa, efetuando-se tamb?m o seu mapeamento e a elabora??o do respetivo protocolo de manuten??o. This professional stage, under the internship program of the Institute of Employment and Training, in partnership with the company ENEOP 3 aimed to prepare a study on improvements in the production process, in order to make this company more efficient, to reduce production costs, without compromising the final product quality. This was divided into three main stages, giving each of them a project. The 1st Project, scheduled to last two months, aims to determine the number of people needed to perform all preventive maintenance of the machines of the plant over a year. The 2nd Project, with the same period of the previous, aims to study improvement solutions in components of some equipment that suffer greater wear, and try to reduce the cost of their maintenance. Finally, in a third phase, with the duration of four months was to develope a survey of the company's vacuum system also making up its mapping and the development of the respective maintenance protocol.

Pretendeu-se conferir identidade ? empresa, quer criando um sistema de produto com as formas, as pegas e o corpo base das pe?as, quer associando novos materiais, conferindo-lhes uma identidade mais moderna, mais pop. Este projecto/tese prop?s-se tamb?m desenvolver uma nova imagem gr?fica assente em motivos e tem?ticas etnogr?ficas diferentes, que suportem a identidade que a linha pop quer transmitir. No final, com este projecto/tese pretende-se fomentar m?todos de produ??o semi-industrial, por meio do design, associando novos materiais e transferindo valores de um contexto para outro. Por um lado, espera-se alcan?ar um produto final moderno e apelativo que consiga responder ?s necessidades do mercado, podendo assim tornar a Vianagr?s numa empresa competitiva e em constante expans?o. Por outro lado, espera-se que esta ac??o de experimenta??o desencadeie uma transfer?ncia de conhecimento, refor?ando as capacidades profissionais, propondo significados diferentes e espont?neos e criando novas oportunidades de mercado para a empresa. This research arises from the need to create connections between the ceramic industry and the local culture, including developing a system based on artisanal and economic components, through design. The project / thesis aims to design a 'womb' line in which the ceramic is the predominant material, based on the reuse of the heritage Vianagr?s company components. It was intended to give identity to the company, either by creating a product forms system, the handles and the base body parts, or associating new materials, giving them an identity more modern, more pop. This project / thesis-also proposed the development of a different new graphic image based on ethnographic and thematic motifs, supporting the identity that the pop line wants to convey. In the end, this project / thesis aims to foster of semi-industrial production methods, through the design, combining new materials and changing values from one context to another. On the one hand, it will be expected to achieve a modern and appealing final product that can answer to the market requests, and convert the Vianagr?s as a competitive company and in continuous expansion. Moreover, it is expected that this experimental-action triggering the knowledge transfer, firming the professional capacities, proposing different and spontaneous meanings and creating new market opportunities for the company.

Neste sentido, esta investiga??o prop?e a implementa??o de res?duos para a decora??o cer?mica, demonstrando como a inova??o do setor cer?mico pode passar por ser uma liga??o coerente e forte entre a investiga??o acad?mica e a atividade produtiva local. Na primeira parte do trabalho foi realizada uma breve contextualiza??o da cer?mica tradicional de Barcelos, evidenciando a import?ncia do design no desenvolvimento de um produto local e apresentando dois casos de estudo. Na segunda parte do trabalho passou-se para uma fase pr?tica de experimenta??o que come?ou nos laborat?rios de Cer?mica da ESTG para depois continuar nos ateliers de oleiros de Barcelos. This research aims at analyzing and projecting within the context of the typical ceramics of Barcelos, creating an alternative path capable of generating products based on a new chain of values related to the productive cycle of traditional pottery. This way, this research proposes the implementation of residues to the ceramics decoration, showing as innovation within the ceramics sector may be a coherent and strong connection between investigation and the local productive activity. In the first part, a brief contextualization of the traditional ceramics of Barcelos, highlights the importance of design in the development of a local product and presents two case studies. The second part deals with the pratical steps of the experimentation which started in the ceramics laboratories of ESTG and then continued in the studios of the potters of Barcelos. With the crisis in every productive sector, the creation of new solutions linked with the tradicional characteristics is essential and aims at originating innovative products capable of cohabitate with tradition, but, simultaneously, portraying the values of contemporaneity and educating the user with a message in-between tradition and new problematics. In this text, the autors expect to validate the relationship between design and local handicraft as a strategy in the creation of products to sustainability.

Mestrado em Tecnologia Cer?mica na Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gest?o do Instituto Polit?cnico de Viana do Castelo Tendo em conta a crescente procura pela inova??o dos produtos est?ticos/acess?rios por parte dos jovens designers, surgiu interesse em aliar as caracter?sticas da cer?mica, nomeadamente brilho e cor ? joalharia feita em todo o mundo. Este trabalho pretende produzir uma palete de cores, que funcionar? como cat?logo de cores dispon?veis para os designers inclu?rem nos seus projectos. Para tal, realizou-se um estudo de cor numa matriz de alumina, corada com v?rios pigmentos. Testaram-se diferentes teores de v?rios pigmentos e verificou-se o desenvolvimento da cor ap?s cozedura e ap?s polimento. A produ??o de amostras de alumina com as diferentes quantidades de pigmento, processou-se por prensagem a seco numa prensa hidr?ulica manual. Realizou-se o tratamento t?rmico da amostra a 1200?C, com posterior polimento. Esta temperatura de sinteriza??o foi seleccionada, ap?s a realiza??o de diversos testes e se ter verificado que muitos dos pigmentes s?o inst?veis para temperaturas superiores. Desta forma conseguiuse alargar o leque de cores produzidas. Como complemento ao trabalho, tamb?m se realizaram ensaios sobre uma alumina proveniente de res?duos industriais. E efectuou-se o estudo de uma lama de anodiza??o proveniente da LacoViana que ap?s calcina??o origina alumina. Os resultados destes ensaios demonstraram pior desempenho do que o verificado com a alumina pura, o que combinado com o facto de a joalharia ser um produto de alto valor acrescentado e se produzir em pequenas quantidades, reduz o interesse deste tipo de reciclagem industrial. Given the increasing demand of young designers for the innovation of aesthetic products and/or accessories, the combination of ceramic characteristics, including brightness and colour, with the jewellery made in the world, becomes a new challenge for new products. This work intends to do a colour study of the effect of various pigments contents into an alumina matrix and find out the progression of the colour after sintering and also after a polish treatment. For this, alumina samples with different amounts of pigment were prepared by uniaxial press. The sintering process it was done at 1200?C. This low sintering temperature it was selected after several tests which demonstrates pigment instability for higher temperatures. Thus it was possible to extend the range of colors produced. Taking into account environmental issues, it was also analysed the possibility of use an anodizing slurry rich in alumina, from Lacoviana company. This slurry, after a calcination process it is almost constituted by alumina. One of the pigments used with the high grade alumina, was also tested with this industrial waste, to allow a comparison between this two different aluminas. The results of these trials showed a worse performance than that observed with pure alumina, which combined with the fact that jewellery is a product of high added value and is produced in small amounts, reduces the attractiveness of this type of industrial recycling.

Em simult?neo, permite a redu??o dos custos de produ??o da unidade industrial e evita problemas ambientais (deposi??o em aterro). Deste modo, este trabalho pretende avaliar a viabilidade da reutiliza??o de lamas geradas numa f?brica de limas, como fundente de pastas de gr?s dom?stico e como mat?ria-prima na formula??o de um engobe para pavimentos. Para tal, procedeu-se ? caracteriza??o da lama, em termos de composi??o qu?mica (FRX) e mineral?gica (DRX), comportamento t?rmico (ATG, ATD, e DL), teor de humidade e cor. Verificou-se ainda a const?ncia temporal das suas caracter?sticas, observando-se que o res?duo apresenta uma composi??o muito parecida ? de um vidro (constitu?do maioritariamente por SiO2, CaO e Na2O). Para avaliar a substitui??o total e parcial do agente fundente presente na pasta cer?mica pela lama e o poss?vel ganho energ?tico com esta substitui??o, foram tamb?m estudadas as propriedades finais de amostras sinterizadas, tais como: resist?ncia mec?nica, retrac??o, cor e absor??o de ?gua. Para avaliar a utiliza??o da lama como mat?ria-prima na formula??o de um engobe foram desenvolvidas v?rias composi??es e testado o seu comportamento quando aplicadas em suporte cer?mico. Os resultados obtidos demonstram a viabilidade destas reutiliza??es, embora testes ? escala industrial devam ser no futuro realizados para confirma??o das solu??es propostas. The incorporation of industrial sludge in ceramic products that are processed at high temperatures can be looked as an interesting environmental solution, since it prevents the deposition in landfills while assures the correct inertization of potential hazardous species. At the same time, it helps to preserve natural nonrenewable resources in the ceramics processing and might diminish production costs. In this study, a sludge generated by roughing file surface industrial processes had been tested as fluxing component (for feldspar substitution) of a stoneware pottery paste, and also as engobe raw material used in the floor tiles production. After detailed characterization of the waste, involving chemical composition (XRF) and mineralogical (XRD) determinations, its thermal behavior (DTA, TG, and dilatometry), its moisture content and color, different compositions were prepared and tested. The sludge is mainly constituted by SiO2, CaO and Na2O, closed to a typical glass composition, and was added after drying. The temporal constancy of their properties it was also evaluated. Samples were industrially fired and then technologically characterized, by determining the bending strength, thermal expansion coefficient, water absorption, color and total shrinkage. For comparison, a standard stoneware paste, used as received from the ceramic industry, was tested. In other hand, different compositions were prepared to study the incorporation of sludge in the engobe formulation. Industrial tests were made after applications in dried ceramic tiles. The results demonstrate the viability of these reuses, although industrial-scale tests should be performed to confirm the future of the proposed solutions.

Incorporou-se a areia em estudo em diferentes pastas de Gr?s com o objectivo de avaliar a sua influ?ncia nas caracter?sticas t?picas destas pastas. As pastas cer?micas foram avaliadas por ensaios de Flex?o, ensaios de absor??o de ?gua, an?lises T?rmicas (ATD, ATG e Dilatometria), distribui??o de tamanho de part?culas por Difrac??o de Raio Laser, composi??o qu?mica por FRX e caracteriza??o da cor pela medida dos par?metros do espa?o L*a*b* (CIELAB). The main purpose of this work was the study of the best way to reuse an inert element (sand), collected from the separation and washing sand process, upon stoneware ceramic pastes. This specific sand has been sold exclusively to the civil construction industries and the search for new markets for these products, and sub-products, could be very important for the company future (Motamineral, Minerais SA). This specific sand was analysed considering its physical and chemical proprieties and was itself compared to standard sand type commonly used in the pastes composition of stoneware. Its mineral composition (X-ray diffraction) and granulometric distribution (sieving analysis) were obtained. The tested sand has been incorporated in different stoneware pastes in order to study its influence upon the characteristic of a typical standard pastes In this sense, bending strength (flexion tests), thermal analyses (DTA, TGA and dilatometrics), particle size distribution (through laser beam diffraction), chemical composition (RFX) and colour characterisation (L*a*b* parameters - CIELAB) were evaluate.
