Acta Ophthalmol. 2010: 88: 730–735 Abstract. Purpose: To record retinal vascular events following intravitreal bevacizumab injection. Methods: Collaborative multi-centre retrospective case series. Results: Eight patients were documented to have central retinal artery occlusion (four patients), branch retinal artery occlusion, capillary occlusion, central retinal vein occlusion and branch retinal vein occlusion (one patient each) within 0–55 days (median 2 weeks) of intravitreal bevacizumab. All patients had several ocular and systemic risk factors for retinal vascular events: elevated intraocular pressure on discharge (four patients), pre-existent glaucoma (one patient), pre-existent ischaemic retinal vascular disorder (four patients), systemic hypertension (five patients), diabetes mellitus (three patients), coronary artery disease (four patients), carotid disease (three patients), smoking (two patients) and migraine (one patient). Conclusion: The retinal vascular events may be associated with the underlying ocular disease under treatment or with the underlying systemic disease, may be related to an increased intraocular pressure post-injection constraining further an already poor retinal perfusion, the vasoconstrictor effect of bevacizumab, or a combination of all three.

Neither subacute postoperative inflammation nor endophthalmitis following cataract extraction is rare. However, low-grade inflammation due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa endophthalmitis is uncommon. Report of a Case. An 85-year-old white woman presented with a 2-week history of hypopyon that developed following an uncomplicated cataract extraction and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in her right eye. Because no pain was present, the eye was treated with a combination of topical tobramycin sulfate and dexamethasone sodium phosphate (Tobradex) and with atropine sulfate, both three times daily. Ocular history was notable for early glaucoma, with topical timolol maleate treatment, in both eyes and an uncomplicated cataract extraction in the left eye 1 year prior. Medical history was significant for breast cancer removed by mastectomy. Ophthalmic examination of the affected eye revealed a visual acuity of finger counting at 30 cm, intraocular pressure of 22 mm Hg, 1-mm hypopyon with 2 + to 3 + cells in the

• Choroidal melanoma is widely regarded as a slow-growing tumor. We report herein the first documented case, to our knowledge, of a choroidal melanoma present in an eye in which examination 16 months earlier disclosed no tumor. On gross examination following enucleation, the largest tumor diameter at the base was 19 mm and the height was 11 mm. The implications as to the growth rate and the precursor lesions of choroidal melanomas are discussed.

A 37-year-old woman has followed for more than 10 years with an amelanotic peripheral intraocular tumor. This solitary lesion grew slowly and, because of the possibility of an amelanotic melanoma, the eye was enucleated. Histopathology revealed a localized "massive" retinal gliosis (MRG). Immunohistochemical staining for S-100 protein and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were positive. Electron microscopy showed a highly fibrillar component and basement membrane formation in the extracellular space. Proliferating cells contained abundant fine filaments. These findings confirmed the glial origin of the proliferating cells. The previously undefined relationship of these localized forms of MRG with solitary astrocytomas is discussed.
