Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of mathematics to the programming performance of Information Technology students and identified the relationships of their performance in programming among genders. Methods/Statistical analysis: The study utilized the data mining method using J48 classification algorithm and descriptive-correlation design. The data were gathered from Electronic Database of the University. Failure ratings of the students were removed as significant outliers and came up with 73 data sets. Pearson r and Point Biserial Correlations were used with 0.05 level of significance alpha to test the correlation between continuous measures of independent and dependent variables. Further, descriptive statistics were used to describe the level of performance in mathematics and programming. Findings: The results show that students demonstrated a high performance in their mathematics in the modern world course with a mean rating of 2.16 (SD=0.27), and a low performance in their mathematics enhancement 1 with a mean grade of 2.81 (SD=0.38). Similar result in their programming course with a mean grade of 2.64 (SD=0.39). The mathematics performance of the students is significantly correlated to their performance in programming. The low performance in mathematics enhancement 1 corresponds to the low performance in programming. Moreover, female students performed better in their programming course compared to males. Applications: The results could help the teachers improve the quality of instructions particularly in mathematics and programming that will improve the performance of the students in both subjects. Concerned University administrators should conduct frequent assessments and curriculum revisits to examine possible areas of improvement beneficial to the students. Imbentaryo App an intelligent inventory system and decision support system (DSS) equipped with forecasting algorithm and Short Messaging Service (SMS) technology. The system performs business intelligent solutions through predictive data analysis from the inventory historical data needed for decision making on planning, monitoring, and management of supplies and equipment in the Supply Management Office (SMO) of Tanauan, Leyte, Philippines. The study is designed to advance the current inventory system by integrating innovative technologies and intelligent algorithms comparable to artificial intelligence. The system development utilized an agile model in building software prototypes to meet user and business requirements. The application is equipped with a secured database server and accessible on secured network architecture through web and mobile technology. The application was confirmed by SMO personnel to be an effective and efficient inventory system using ISO 25010 with a significant rating of 4.32 interpreted as Extremely Efficient.

Bandilyo App is a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Incident Reporting System (ICS) – an integrated command and control communication system equipped with Geolocation and Short Messaging Service (SMS) technology. Bandilyo App performs an intelligent system on the coordination planning and humanitarian activities in the Municipality of Tanauan, Leyte, Philippines. The study is driven to design and develop a system equipped with various Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) such as broadband connectivity, mobile application, web application, client-server network architecture, SMS and Geolocation Technology to advance the operations in the DRR and incident response activities. The study employs a qualitative descriptive research design to effectively and efficiently define the system framework. Agile model software development methodologies were employed to meet the users and business requirements of a DRR system in an iterative and incremental approach. Researchers utilized specialized applications such as Laravel, React Native, JavaScript, Visual Studio, Android Studio, and MySQL in creating a secured database and robust development of the system. The results of the study revealed Bandilyo App to be an intelligent system powered by two unique applications on a secured network architecture database. The system provides real - time updates and incident response monitoring. The unique features of the system resulted in a significant rating of 4.38 interpreted as Extremely Efficient using the ISO 25010 instrument on the software quality standards. Finally, the MDRRMO personnel is expectant on the full implementation of the Bandilyo App for an effective, efficient, and accurate information on a timely response for humanitarian coordination activities.

The e-voting kiosk: A Network Architecture School-Based Registration and Voting System features an election management system that provides a secure, clean, and honest Supreme Student Government election for Eastern Visayas State University-Main Campus. The study is driven to design and develop a voting system that is equipped with a network-based software architecture that provides computing resources to multiple voting kiosks where voters can register and cast their votes securely. The study employs a quantitative descriptive research design to present the respondents' perception of the current manual election system compared to the e-voting system. A waterfall model was employed in the sequential process of developing the e-voting system. Researchers utilized specialized software applications such as C# and MySQL in creating a secured database for the robust development of the system. The findings of the study present a unique e-voting system powered by an election management system that features an intelligent system algorithm. The e-voting kiosk features interactive ballots that allow voters to easily cast their votes securely. The system provides secured access to voters' identity and process real-time generation of election results. The observed system performance resulted to a significant rating of 4.04 interpreted as “Very Efficient” and its software characteristics was rated 95% for its contribution in the election proceedings. Finally, the electoral board unanimously approved the implementation and use of e-voting system which provides fast, effective, efficient, and reliable election management system.

PlantOne application presents smart farming innovative tool which is powered by Arduino microcontroller and mobile application technology. This system innovation is equally important in today's modern agriculture. These technologies were integrated to help people with the best farming practices during CoVID19 outbreak. People explore growing plants in their backyard to supplement their food supply while others consider planting as avenue to one's mental and physical health. The study is motivated to design and develop a farming application that will monitor the soil pH and moisture content providing accurate and reliable knowledge management to farming enthusiast. The study utilized a qualitative and experimental research design to attain the objectives of the study. An Iterative Waterfall model was employed in the system development to attain user and business requirements. Researchers utilized Arduino microcontroller on its features to perform hardware and software integration. Powered by integrated development environment multiple sensors were utilized in the project application such as pH sensor, moisture sensor and ESP WiFi 8266 module. Android Studio, JAVA, Node.js, Android Kitkat and DB Browser for SQL was used in the robust development of a secured and reliable mobile application. The results of the study proves the PlantOne application to be an scalable and intelligent farming application tool in providing knowledge management on best farming practices. PlantOne was consistent “PASS” on the system evaluation of agriculture experts in the Regional Soil Laboratory of a PASS or FAIL rating. Finally, PlantOne is recommended to funding agencies as an innovative tool to smart farming.

The study presents the contributions of browserbased cooperative records management system with loan assessment system (CRMLAS) to Kanhilangsad Multi-Purpose Cooperative Incorporated (KMPCI). CR MLAS is sufficiently transparent and comprehensive to cooperative members and stakeholders that performs as a business intelligence solution. The CRMSLAS is a browser-based transaction system that allows cooperative members to perform transactions in robust and secured environment. The study aimed to develop an application system that provides mobility access to information in various computing devices. The study is anchored to innovation system theory on the collaborative discussions on system development from different cooperative stakeholders. A sample of 100 respondents was selected through purposive sampling identified as cooperative experts by the members. Descriptive quantitative research design was utilized to gather respondent’s perceptions on cooperative current system over CRMLAS. The study also utilizes system development life cycle that describes the phases involved in information systems development. The researcher employ/ed different application software’s in the development of the system. The findings revealed that all the cooperative stakeholders desired to implement the CRMLAS system which offers faster, effective, efficient and reliable cooperative transactions to its stakeholders. The KMPCI members highly recommend the full implementation of the proposed system for faster report generations, information system security, effective and efficient cooperative operations, mobility access to information and unique end to end offering in the cooperative. Other system features will be available in the near future based on its cooperative policies and procedure as the system is designed to be scalable for such system expansion.

Fourth Industrial REvolution offers various technological innovations that contribute significant advantages to the university. The development of the web app voting system (WAVS) in Eastern Visayas State University - Tanauan Campus transformed the voting experience of university students. The study aimed to determine the extent of usability of the WAVS in the Supreme Student Government election. A total of 203 students (voters) served as the respondents using a convenient sampling technique. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed to present the respondents’ views and opinions. The study revealed the system evaluation to be “Excellent” in all factors of usability components on effectiveness (3.50), efficiency (3.43), and user satisfaction (3.42) with a grand mean of 3.45. The WAVS exceeded the users’ requirements on the context of use principles allowing them to perform their tasks efficiently and effectively. The results of the study present an interesting direction of the system implementation across campuses of the university. Developers should consider the mobility of system connectivity using a secured virtual private network (VPN) of the university. Implement security measures on voter’s identity and network firewall encryption. Finally, developers of the system should always consider the usability principles and user requirements in developing an effective and efficient information system.

Introduction. This review examines whether electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) implementation or vulgarization in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) could be helpful in curtailing the toll of tobacco smoking in the region. Discussion. There are about 1.3 billion smokers worldwide, with nearly 80% of them living in developing countries where the burden of tobacco-related illnesses and deaths is the heaviest. Studies report that e-cigs may facilitate smoking cessation, reduction, or abstinence and may pose only a small fraction of the risks of traditional tobacco cigarettes; e-cigs may also considerably reduce second-hand smoking. Thereby, implementation of e-cig use could help to substantially reduce the burden driven by tobacco smoking in SSA, in a particular context of lack of regulations and control policies towards this threat. However, the evidence is not clear on whether e-cigs are risk-free, especially if used in the long term. Conclusions. On the whole, if e-cigs were to be introduced in SSA, they should be strictly recommended to current and/or ex-smokers as a method to quit smoking or prevent relapse and never-smokers should be strongly encouraged to avoid using these devices. Bans on sales of e-cigs to youngsters should be legislated, e-cig advertisements prohibited, and their usage continuously controlled and monitored.

Introduction The African adult population is facing a growing epidemic of hypertension. Establishment of accurate epidemiological data on hypertension in African children and adolescents may have important implications for hypertension preventive strategies in Africa. Methods and analysis This systematic review and meta-analysis will follow the MOOSE Guidelines. Relevant abstracts published in English/French from 1 January 1985 to 31 July 2015 will be searched in PubMed, Google Scholar and Online African journals. Full texts of eligible studies will then be accessed through PubMed, Google Scholar, HINARI and the respective journals’ websites. Relevant unpublished papers and conference proceedings will also be checked. Data will be analysed using R statistical software. The study-specific estimates will be pooled through a random-effects meta-analysis model to obtain an overall summary estimate of the prevalence/incidence of hypertension across studies. Also, we will assess the association between risk factors and hypertension. Heterogeneity of studies will be evaluated by the χ2 test on Cochrane's Q statistic. Funnel plots analysis and Egger's test will be done to detect publication bias. Results will be presented by geographic region (central, eastern, northern, southern and western Africa). A p value less than 0.05 will be considered significant for factors that predicted hypertension. Ethics and dissemination The current study is based on published data, and thus ethical approval is not required. This systematic review and meta-analysis is expected to serve as input for designing early life preventive and control strategies, and as a guide for future research based on existing gaps. The final report of the systematic review in the form of a scientific paper will be published in peer-reviewed journals. Findings will further be presented at conferences and submitted to relevant health authorities. Trial registration number CRD42015019029.
