One hundred and five patients underwent adjuvant radiotherapy (aRT), while 200 a salvage treatment (sRT). GU toxicity was evaluated according to CTCAE v5.0. Every patient received RT combined with HA.Results: Grade 1– 2 GU toxicity during RT was represented by: urgency (36%), dysuria (23%), increased urinary frequency (12.1%), and urinary retention (11.8%). Nevertheless, the majority of symptoms were present at the baseline. Grade 3 severe toxicity was represented by 10 (3.2%) cases of incontinence and 3 (1%) cases of urgency. The incidence of any-grade RT-related GU toxicity was significantly higher in the aRT group than the salvage group (esRT + sRT) (83.8% versus 64.5%). When comparing the incidence of any-grade RT-related GU toxicity in the aRT, esRT, and sRT groups we observed a significant correlation favoring sRT, over esRT, and aRT.Conclusion: Postoperative hypofractionated radiotherapy is safe and not correlated with increase of unexpected toxicity when administered with oral hyaluronic acid. 2. Computing the k-binomial complexity of generalized Thue--Morse words

Abstract

Two finite words are k-binomially equivalent if each subword (i.e., subsequence) of length at most k occurs the same number of times in both words. The k-binomial complexity of an infinite word is a function that maps the integer $n\geq 0$ to the number of k-binomial equivalence classes represented by its factors of length n. The Thue--Morse (TM) word and its generalization to larger alphabets are ubiquitous in mathematics due to their rich combinatorial properties. This work addresses the k-binomial complexities of generalized TM words. Prior research by Lejeune, Leroy, and Rigo determined the k-binomial complexities of the 2-letter TM word. For larger alphabets, work by L\"u, Chen, Wen, and Wu determined the 2-binomial complexity for m-letter TM words, for arbitrary m, but the exact behavior for $k\geq 3$ remained unresolved. They conjectured that the k-binomial complexity function of the m-letter TM word is eventually periodic with period $m^k$. We resolve the conjecture positively by deriving explicit formulae for the k-binomial complexity functions for any generalized TM word. We do this by characterizing k-binomial equivalence among factors of generalized TM words. Abstract

We address the following decision problem. Given a numeration system $U$ and a $U$-recognizable set $X\subseteq\mathbb{N}$, i.e. the set of its greedy $U$-representations is recognized by a finite automaton, decide whether or not $X$ is ultimately periodic. We prove that this problem is decidable for a large class of numeration systems built on linearly recurrent sequences. Based on arithmetical considerations about the recurrence equation and on $p$-adic methods, the DFA given as input provides a bound on the admissible periods to test., Comment: 39 pages, 2 figures. Abstract

Objective: Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) have become a new standard of care for the maintenance treatment of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combining stereotactic body radiotherapy with PARPi continuation as a strategy to treat ovarian cancer oligoprogression on PARPi. Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective study including ovarian cancer patients treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy and PARPi continuation for oligoprogression under PARPi maintenance therapy between June 2012 and May 2023 in three Italian centers. PARPi treatment was continued until further disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary endpoint was the next-line systemic therapy-free interval. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to assess local control, progression-free survival, and overall survival. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate potential clinical outcomes predictors. Results: 46 patients were included, with a total of 89 lesions treated over 63 radiotherapy treatments. Lymph nodes were the most frequently treated lesions (80, 89.9%), followed by visceral lesions (8, 9%) and one case with a bone lesion (1.1%). Median follow-up was 25.9 months (range 2.8-122). The median next-line systemic therapy-free interval was 12.4 months (95% CI 8.3 to 19.5). A number of prior chemotherapy lines greater than five was significantly associated with a reduced next-line systemic therapy-free interval (HR 3.21, 95% CI 1.11 to 9.32, p=0.032). At the time of analysis, 32 (69.6%) patients started a new systemic therapy regimen, while 14 (30.4%) remained on the PARPi regimen. The 2-year progression-free survival, local failure-free survival, and overall survival rates were 10.7%, 78.1%, and 76.5%, respectively. Abstract

Two finite words $u,v$ are 2-binomially equivalent if, for all words $x$ of length at most 2, the number of occurrences of $x$ as a (scattered) subword of $u$ is equal to the number of occurrences of $x$ in $v$. This notion is a refinement of the usual abelian equivalence. A 2-binomial square is a word $uv$ where $u$ and $v$ are 2-binomially equivalent. In this paper, considering pure morphic words, we prove that 2-binomial squares (resp. cubes) are avoidable over a 3-letter (resp. 2-letter) alphabet. The sizes of the alphabets are optimal.

Abstract

Consider a non-standard numeration system like the one built over the Fibonacci sequence where nonnegative integers are represented by words over $\{0,1\}$ without two consecutive 1. Given a set $X$ of integers such that the language of their greedy representations in this system is accepted by a finite automaton, we consider the problem of deciding whether or not $X$ is a finite union of arithmetic progressions. We obtain a decision procedure for this problem, under some hypothesis about the considered numeration system. In a second part, we obtain an analogous decision result for a particular class of abstract numeration systems built on an infinite regular language.

In this note, we give an alternative proof of the following result. Let p, q >= 2 be two multiplicatively independent integers. If an infinite set of integers is both p- and q-recognizable, then it is syndetic. Notice that this result is needed in the classical proof of the celebrated Cobham?s theorem. Therefore the aim of this paper is to complete [13] and [1] to obtain an accessible proof of Cobham?s theorem.

Using a genealogically ordered infinite regular language, we know how to represent an interval of R. Numbers having an ultimately periodic representation play a special role in classical numeration systems. The aim of this paper is to characterize the numbers having an ultimately periodic representation in generalized systems built on a regular language. The syntactical properties of these words are also investigated. Abstract

The set of continuous norm-preserving stochastic Schrodinger equations associated with the Lindblad master equation is introduced. This set is used to describe the localization properties of the state vector toward eigenstates of the environment operator. Particular focus is placed on determining the stochastic equation which exhibits the highest rate of localization for wide open systems. An equation having such a property is proposed in the case of a single non-hermitian environment operator. Abstract

We consider a driven damped anharmonic oscillator which classically leads to a bistable steady state and to hysteresis. The quantum counterpart for this system has an exact analytical solution in the steady state which does not display any bistability or hysteresis. We use quantum state diffusion theory to describe this system and to provide a new perspective on the lack of hysteresis in the quantum regime so as to study in detail the quantum to classical transition. Abstract

Recently it has been shown that the evolution of open quantum systems may be ``unraveled'' into individual ``trajectories,'' providing powerful numerical and conceptual tools. In this letter we use quantum trajectories to study mesoscopic systems and their classical limit. We show that in this limit, Quantum Jump (QJ) trajectories approach a diffusive limit very similar to the Quantum State Diffusion (QSD) unraveling. The latter follows classical trajectories in the classical limit. Hence, both unravelings show the rise of classical orbits. Abstract

Introduction: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) has been shown to increase survival in oligometastatic disease, but local control of colorectal metastases remains poor. We aimed to identify potential predictive factors of SBRT response through a multicenter large retrospective database and to investigate the progression to the polymetastatic disease (PMD). Material and methods: The study involved 23 centers, and was approved by the Ethical Committee (Prot. Negrar 2019-ZT). 1033 lung metastases were reported. Clinical and biological parameters were evaluated as predictive for freedom from local progression-free survival (FLP). Secondary end-point was the time to the polymetastatic conversion (tPMC). Results: Two-year FLP was 75.4%. Two-year FLP for lesions treated with a BED < 00 Gy, 100–124 Gy, and ≥125 Gy was 76.1%, 70.6%, and 94% (p = 0.000). Two-year FLP for lesion measuring ≤10 mm, 10–20 mm, and >20 mm was 79.7%, 77.1%, and 66.6% (p = 0.027). At the multivariate analysis a BED ≥125 Gy significantly reduced the risk of local progression (HR 0.24, 95%CI 0.11–0.51; p = 0.000). Median tPMC was 26.8 months. Lesions treated with BED ≥125 Gy reported a significantly longer tPMC as compared to lower BED. The median tPMC for patients treated to 1, 2–3 or 4–5 simultaneous oligometastases was 28.5, 25.4, and 9.8 months (p = 0.035). Conclusion: The present is the largest series of lung colorectal metastases treated with SABR. The results support the use of SBRT in lung oligometastatic colorectal cancer patients as it might delay the transition to PMD or offer relatively long disease-free period in selected cases. Predictive factors were identified for treatment personalization.

Abstract

The Triassic/Jurassic boundary section cropping out at Mt Sparagio in north-western Sicily (Italy) consists of a thick and continuous peritidal succession typical of a Tethyan carbonate platform. The combined chemostratigraphic and biostratigraphic study of this section allowed us to parallel the environmental variations inferred by the isotopic records and the extinction trends recorded by the benthic organisms. In the studied section, the isotope data of C, O, and S are indicative of serious environmental perturbations related to the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP) activity, as recorded worldwide. Two negative excursions in the C-curve (Initial-CIE and Main-CIE) confirm the acidification processes that affected the benthic community. Moreover, the oxygen isotopes curve indicates a strong warming-trend that corresponds to the reduction in biodiversity and size of the megalodontoids in the upper part of the Rhaetian beds, probably due to the deterioration of the photosymbiotic relationships of these pelecypods. We here present some novel isotope data (Zn, Pb, Sr) from the Mt Sparagio section that offer additional clues on a tight control of CAMP volcanism on the End-Triassic Extinction.

Abstract

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S): stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) has been shown to increase survival rates in oligometastatic disease (OMD), but local control of colorectal metastases still remains poor. We aimed to identify potential predictive factors of SBRT response through a multicenter large retrospective database and to investigate how lung SBRT can impact on the progression to the polymetastatic disease (PMD). MATERIALS/METHODS: the study involved 22 centers, and was approved by the Ethical Committee (Prot. Negrar 2019-ZT). 1023 lung metastases treated with SBRT in 622 patients were reported. The median BED was 105 Gy10. Lesion diameter GTV, PTV volume, dose, fractionations, and site of primary tumor were evaluated as potential predictive marker for SBRT response for the primary end-point local progression-free survival (LPFS). EGFR, KRAS, NRAS, BRAF, and MSI were also evaluated. Secondary end-point was the time to the polymetastatic conversion (ttPMC). RESULTS: the median follow-up was 26 months (range 3-117 months). The median lesion diameter was 13 mm (range 4-58 mm). The 2- and 3-year LPFS were 75.6% and 71%, respectively. At the univariate analysis, BED ≥125Gy10 was associated with improved LPFS (2-year: 94.1% versus 72.6%; P = < 0.0001), single fraction SBRT correlated with better LPFS in the overall population (2-year: 80.6% versus 73.7%; P = 0.03), but no significant difference was observed when considering the population treated with BED > 100 Gy10. Lesion diameter ≤19 mm correlated with improved LPFS (2-year 80% versus 60%; P = < 0.0001). The median ttPMC was 26 months, and the 2-year ttPMC was 54.5%. The median PFS was 11.3 months. After SABR, 36% patients had polymetastatic relapse, 39.5% patients had an oligometastatic relapse, and 24.5% patients had no further relapse.
