Drawing on conservation of resources theory, our study investigates whether a project manager’s despotic leadership style influences project success directly and indirectly through the underlying mechanism of project team members’ emotional exhaustion. Additionally, the moderating role of project team members’ emotional intelligence (EI) between despotic leadership and emotional exhaustion is also examined. Data were collected from the project-based employees working in telecommunications organizations (n = 250) using a time-lagged survey in three waves. The result indicates that despotic leadership has a significant negative influence on project success, and emotional exhaustion partially mediates this relationship. Moreover, conforming to a rare line of inquiry that there is a dark side to being emotionally intelligent, our findings show that the effect of despotic leadership style on emotional exhaustion is stronger when a project team member is highly emotionally intelligent. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of these findings.

PurposeThe green aspects in current management practices are strongly emphasized for sustainable and environment friendly business operations. Thus, building on ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) theory, this study aims to test the mediating role of green absorptive capacity in the relationship between green human resources management (GHRM) practices (i.e., green training and development, and green performance management) and organizational citizenship behavior towards environment (OCBE).Design/methodology/approachUsing a paper-pencil survey, the authors collected data from 170 middle-tier officers working in cement industry of Pakistan. Structural equation modeling technique was applied for data analysis through Smart-PLS.FindingsResults indicated that GHRM practices significantly influence OCBE and green absorptive capacity partially mediates the relationship between GHRM practices and OCBE.Originality/valueThis study offers new theoretical and practical insights by empirically investigating the mediating role of green absorptive capacity between GHRM practices and OCBE through the lens of AMO theory. Furthermore, this study contributed in disclosing the predictors of OCBE through intervening mechanism in manufacturing sector of developing country for sustainable outcomes.

PurposeDrawing on conservation of resource theory, this study aims to examine the impact of work-study conflict (WSC) on workplace outcomes (job performance, job satisfaction, burnout and turnover intention). The study also investigated whether these relationships were contingent on the level of supervisor support at the workplace.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data were collected in two-time lags from 752 studying professionals (non-traditional students) through a convenient sampling technique.FindingsResults showed that WSC enhances burnout and turnover intention but has no significant direct relationship with job performance and job satisfaction. It was also found that the relationships between WSC and workplace outcomes, i.e. job performance, job satisfaction and burnout were conditional on the level of supervisor support.Originality/valueThe research contributes to WSC literature by being the first to empirically investigate the direct and interactive effects of WSC and supervisor support on important workplace outcomes of those adults who were primarily working and then decided to study further for career development rather than on full-time students.

The impact of behavioral aspects on project success remains an area that requires more attention. Drawing on the social exchange theory (SET), our study tested the mediating role of project citizenship behavior (PCB) in the relationships of all four organizational justice dimensions (i.e., procedural, distributive, informational, and interpersonal justice) with project success. A time-lagged survey of project team members ( n = 233) was conducted and analyzed through structural equation modeling (SEM). The results indicate that all four organizational justice dimensions are positively associated with project success, whereas informational justice appears to be the most influential dimension, and that PCB mediates all of these relationships. Project managers/sponsors should enact organizational justice and enhance project citizenship to achieve project success.

The widespread human-robot interaction is increasing progressively as robots have made the life of everyone easy-going and comfortable. In this work, we have analysed the behaviour and characteristics of various types of robots. We have also studied the outgrowing relation between robotics and humans. In our analysis, we also have a selection of aspects of this field, which are done by the numerous technologists as well as scientists. We are interested in exploring the functioning of the human brain by generating a functioning system that resolves problems and gives satisfactory results. Artificial intelligence is a vast field that is also pushing its way in the domain of healthcare, business and quality assurance. Various researches disclose that the corporate sector is joining artificial intelligence to estimate the supply-demand concept and automate human resource systems. The public sector is also developing different intelligent machines for security surveillance and malfunction detection of critical systems like nuclear reactors. Artificial intelligence and robotics are also phenomenal to implement the law and order enforcement without any danger. As artificial intelligence is growing, employment in this domain is also increasing due to the high demand of intelligent machines in each sector worldwide. Our primary focus is to delve into the relationship between humans and robots.

A throughput is a measure of successful data transmission through a terminal in a given time. There is a significant number of surveys that have been published to measure the performance of MAC protocols and each MAC channel. There is a substantial need to perform a comparative analysis of achieved results that can provide a comprehensible result for the end-users. In our work, we have applied different methods to obtain the throughput of contention-free and contention-based protocols. We have provided a brief comparison between different protocols of the same class to accentuate the efficient protocols. Our paper incorporates collision avoidance MAC channels, as the collision avoidance techniques provide better usability of protocols than the collision detection techniques. We have also proposed an efficient way to increase the life span of the Low-energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol using Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). The goal to obtain the maximum effectiveness of a network can be achieved by maximal utilization of the throughput. In this paper, we have provided a brief comparison of different MAC protocols by using the throughput parameter, and we have also proposed a new method to increase the efficiency of LEACH protocol.

In this research paper, an effective approach to classify and extract feature vector of different facial expressions and movements recorded using Non-invasive Electroencephalogram (EEG) device is presented. EEG signals were obtained from 10 healthy persons between the age group of 18 to 45. Feature vectors are based on a new approach that make use of Segmentation and Selection (SnS) with Root Mean Square (RMS) to extract feature vector of EEG activities. The classification is done by using K nearest neighbor algorithm. The presented S-RMS (Segmentation and Selection-Root Mean Square) method provides an accuracy of 96.1% and gives better results when compared with others approaches.

Adverse early life experiences (aELEs), such as child abuse, neglect, or trauma, increase lifetime vulnerability for mental illness. In this study, aELEs were modeled in c57bl/6 mice using the maternal separation (MS) paradigm, in which pups were separated for 180 min/day (MS180), 15 min/day (MS15), or left undisturbed (AFR) from postnatal day 2-14. As adults, pups that experienced MS15 or MS180 demonstrated decreases in tryptophan hydroxylase 2 and serotonin transporter mRNA in the dorsal raphe dorsalis and ventralis, and increases in glucocorticoid receptor mRNA in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus. To investigate factors underlying shared expression between MS conditions, dam on-nest time and DNA methylation at the TPH2 promoter and 5' UTR were assessed. Post-reunion on-nest time increased as a function of separation duration, potentially serving as a mitigating factor underlying similar expression between MS conditions. TPH2 DNA methylation remained unchanged, suggesting changes in TPH2 mRNA are not mediated by changes in DNA methylation of this region. The shared pattern of expression between MS15 and MS180 conditions suggests a species- or strain- specific response to MS unique to c57bl/6 mice.
