The article presents an exploration into the process of hiring a prospective faculty member to a college. The author describes his own experiences of how difficult it is to process hundreds of submissions by application only, highlighting the emotional aspects of evaluating so many people. Details of the process that primarily decide who is most qualified are pointed out. Elements that had high correlation in the selection process included the prestige of their graduate institution, the publication history of the applicant, and the format and clarity of the resume.
