This paper explores the different channels of transfer of luxury commodities (rugs, silk fabrics) from Persia and the Ottoman Empire to the three principalities of Moldavia, Wallachia and Transylvania, located at the north-western fringes of the Transottomanica. In the introductory section, it examines the function of the luxury products and their integration into the representational culture of the fifteenth century at the Hungarian royal court, in the Transylvanian cities, as well as in the two Danubian Principalities. The successive integration of Transylvania, Moldavia and Wallachia into the Ottoman sphere of power led to different forms of acceptance and transformation of the imported objects. Although there are parallels between the three principalities with regard to the bestowal of the honorary garments during the investiture rituals by the sultan and his officials, there are differences with regard to the further destiny of these valuable garments. While in Transylvania these were often treasured or reworked into representative costumes given their high material value, in Moldavia and in Wallachia a considerable number of kaftans were transferred into the sacral realm. Hereby older traditions were adapted to the new circumstances. The rulers of the two Danubian Principalities now acted as donors alongside high dignitaries within the framework of supra-regional networks. In addition to their native territories, their activities encompassed the major Orthodox sanctuaries in Greece and the Holy Land. Furthermore, the Danubian Principalities were an important hub for transfers to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Tsardom of Russia.

Generally applicable, palladium-catalyzed direct arylations of 1,2,3-triazoles with aryl chlorides were accomplished through conventional heating at reaction temperatures of 105-120 °C. Thereby, intra-and intermolecular C-H bond functionalizations were achieved with a variety of differently substituted chlorides as electrophiles, bearing numerous valuable functional groups.

Studies on the use of easily accessible heteroatom-substituted secondary phosphine oxides as preligands for cross-coupling reactions are described. These air-stable sterically hindered phosphine oxides allow for efficient palladium-catalyzed Suzuki- and nickel-catalyzed Kumada-coupling reactions using electronically deactivated aryl chlorides. In addition, they enable nickel-catalyzed coupling reactions of magnesium organyls with aryl fluorides at ambient temperature, and ruthenium-catalyzed coupling reactions of aryl chlorides via C-H bond activation. Finally, the application of modular diamino phosphine chlorides as preligands for a variety of transition-metal-catalyzed C-C and C-N bond formation reactions employing electron-rich aryl chlorides is presented.

A system comprising TiCl 4 and t -BuNH 2 acts as a catalyst for highly regioselective hydroamination reactions of alkynes using hydrazines and at the same time a Lewis acid in the transformation of the generated hydrazones into indole derivatives, while a 1,3-diyne is converted to pyrroles using the same precatalyst.

Im Kontrast dazu wird in diesem Band nach ostmitteleuropäischen Orientalismen von 1800 bis in die Zwischenkriegszeit gefragt. Die interdisziplinären Beiträge thematisieren die Wahrnehmungen und Deutungen des Orients in jener europäischen Großregion - vom Baltikum bis zur Krim, von Polen bis nach Bosnien -, die über Jahrhunderte durch die Nachbarschaft zum Osmanischen Reich geprägt wurde. Im Fokus stehen dabei sowohl die Akteure, Institutionen und Diskurse als auch die unterschiedlichen Orient-Topoi sowie deren Darstellung in der Literatur und in den bildenden Künsten.
