TOI-2015 is a known exoplanetary system around an M4 dwarf star, consisting of a transiting sub-Neptune planet in a 3.35-day orbital period, TOI-2015b, accompanied by a non-transiting companion, TOI-2015c. High-precision RV measurements were taken with the MAROON-X spectrograph, and high-precision photometric data were collected several networks. We re-characterize the target star by combining optical spectr, Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA) and Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) analysis. The TOI-2015 host star is a K=10.3mag M4-type dwarf with a sub-solar metallicity of [Fe/H]=-0.31+/-0.16, and a Teff=3200K. Our photodynamical analysis of the system strongly favors the 5:3 mean motion resonance and in this scenario the planet b has an orbital period of 3.34days, a mass of Mp=9.02+/-0.34Me, a radius of Rp=3.309+/-0.012Re, resulting in a density of rhop= 1.40+/-0.06g/cm3, indicative of a Neptune like composition. Its transits exhibit large (>1hr) timing variations indicative of an outer perturber in the system. We performed a global analysis of the high-resolution RV measurements, the photometric data, and the TTVs, and inferred that TOI-2015 hosts a second planet, TOI-2015c, in a non-transiting configuration. TOI-2015c has an orbital period of Pc=5.583days and a mass of Mp=8.91+0.38-0.40Me. The dynamical configuration of TOI-2015b and TOI-2015c can be used to constrain the system's planetary formation and migration history. Based on the mass-radius composition models, TOI-2015b is a water-rich or rocky planet with a hydrogen-helium envelope. Moreover, TOI-2015b has a high transmission spectroscopic metric (TSM=149), making it a favorable target for future transmission spectroscopic observations with JWST to constrain the atmospheric composition of the planet. We measure for the first time the differential photoproduction cross section $d\sigma/dt$ of the $a_2(1320)$ meson at an average photon beam energy of 8.5~GeV, using data with an integrated luminosity of 104~pb$^{-1}$ collected by the GlueX experiment. We fully reconstruct the $\gamma p \to \eta\pi^0 p$ reaction and perform a partial-wave analysis in the $a_2(1320)$ mass region with amplitudes that incorporate the linear polarization of the beam. This allows us to separate for the first time the contributions of natural- and unnatural-parity exchanges. The spin-exotic hybrid meson $\pi_{1}(1600)$ is predicted to have a large decay rate to the $\omega\pi\pi$ final state. Using 76.6~pb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the GlueX detector, we measure the cross sections for the reactions $\gamma p \to \omega \pi^+ \pi^- p$, $\gamma p \to \omega \pi^0 \pi^0 p$, and $\gamma p\to\omega\pi^-\pi^0\Delta^{++}$ in the range $E_\gamma =$ 8-10 GeV. Using isospin conservation, we set the first upper limits on the photoproduction cross sections of the $\pi^{0}_{1}(1600)$ and $\pi^{-}_{1}(1600)$. We combine these limits with lattice calculations of decay widths and find that photoproduction of $\eta'\pi$ is the most sensitive two-body system to search for the $\pi_1(1600)$., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures plus supplemental materials

We measure the spin-density matrix elements (SDMEs) of the $\Delta^{++}(1232)$ in the photoproduction reaction $\gamma p \to \pi^-\Delta^{++}(1232)$ with the GlueX experiment in Hall D at Jefferson Lab. The measurement uses a linearly--polarized photon beam with energies from $8.2$ to $8.8$~GeV and the statistical precision of the SDMEs exceeds the previous measurement by three orders of magnitude for the momentum transfer squared region below $1.4$ GeV$^2$. The data are sensitive to the previously undetermined relative sign between couplings in existing Regge-exchange models. Linear combinations of the extracted SDMEs allow for a decomposition into natural and unnatural--exchange amplitudes. We find that the unnatural exchange plays an important role in the low momentum transfer region.

Recent discoveries of Earth-sized planets transiting nearby M dwarfs have made it possible to characterize the atmospheres of terrestrial planets via follow-up spectroscopic observations. However, the number of such planets receiving low insolation is still small, limiting our ability to understand the diversity of the atmospheric composition and climates of temperate terrestrial planets. We report the discovery of an Earth-sized planet transiting the nearby (12 pc) inactive M3.0 dwarf Gliese 12 (TOI-6251) with an orbital period ($P_{\rm{orb}}$) of 12.76 days. The planet, Gliese 12b, was initially identified as a candidate with an ambiguous $P_{\rm{orb}}$ from TESS data. We confirmed the transit signal and $P_{\rm{orb}}$ using ground-based photometry with MuSCAT2 and MuSCAT3, and validated the planetary nature of the signal using high-resolution images from Gemini/NIRI and Keck/NIRC2 as well as radial velocity (RV) measurements from the InfraRed Doppler instrument on the Subaru 8.2 m telescope and from CARMENES on the CAHA 3.5 m telescope. X-ray observations with XMM-Newton showed the host star is inactive, with an X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratio of $\log L_{\rm X}/L_{\rm bol} \approx -5.7$. Joint analysis of the light curves and RV measurements revealed that Gliese 12b has a radius of 0.96 $\pm$ 0.05 $R_\oplus$, a 3$\sigma$ mass upper limit of 3.9 $M_\oplus$, and an equilibrium temperature of 315 $\pm$ 6 K assuming zero albedo. The transmission spectroscopy metric (TSM) value of Gliese 12b is close to the TSM values of the TRAPPIST-1 planets, adding Gliese 12b to the small list of potentially terrestrial, temperate planets amenable to atmospheric characterization with JWST., Comment: 29 pages (20 pages in main body), 13 figures (10 figures in main body). The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Lab studies photoproduction of mesons using linearly polarized $8.5\,\text{GeV}$ photons impinging on a hydrogen target which is contained within a detector with near-complete coverage for charged and neutral particles. We present measurements of spin-density matrix elements for the photoproduction of the vector meson $\rho$(770). The statistical precision achieved exceeds that of previous experiments for polarized photoproduction in this energy range by orders of magnitude. We confirm a high degree of $s$-channel helicity conservation at small squared four-momentum transfer $t$ and are able to extract the $t$-dependence of natural and unnatural-parity exchange contributions to the production process in detail. We confirm the dominance of natural-parity exchange over the full $t$ range. We also find that helicity amplitudes in which the helicity of the incident photon and the photoproduced $\rho(770)$ differ by two units are negligible for $-t<0.5\,\text{GeV}^{2}/c^{2}$., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures

We report the total and differential cross sections for $J/\psi$ photoproduction with the large acceptance GlueX spectrometer for photon beam energies from the threshold at 8.2~GeV up to 11.44~GeV and over the full kinematic range of momentum transfer squared, $t$. Such coverage facilitates the extrapolation of the differential cross sections to the forward ($t = 0$) point beyond the physical region. The forward cross section is used by many theoretical models and plays an important role in understanding $J/\psi$ photoproduction and its relation to the $J/\psi-$proton interaction. These measurements of $J/\psi$ photoproduction near threshold are also crucial inputs to theoretical models that are used to study important aspects of the gluon structure of the proton, such as the gluon Generalized Parton Distribution (GPD) of the proton, the mass radius of the proton, and the trace anomaly contribution to the proton mass. We observe possible structures in the total cross section energy dependence and find evidence for contributions beyond gluon exchange in the differential cross section close to threshold, both of which are consistent with contributions from open-charm intermediate states., Comment: 15 pages 18 figures

Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) are a class of accreting compact objects with X-ray luminosities above 10$^{39}$ erg s$^{-1}$. The average number of ULXs per galaxy is still not well constrained, especially given the uncertainty on the fraction of ULX transients. Here, we report the identification of a new transient ULX in the galaxy NGC 55 (which we label as ULX-2), thanks to recent XMM-Newton and the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory observations. This object was previously classified as a transient X-ray source with a luminosity around a few 10$^{38}$ erg s$^{-1}$ in a 2010 XMM-Newton observation. Thanks to new and deeper observations ($\sim$ 130 ks each), we show that the source reaches a luminosity peak $>1.6 \times 10^{39}$ erg s$^{-1}$. The X-ray spectrum of ULX-2 is much softer than in previous observations and fits in the class of soft ULXs. It can be well described using a model with two thermal components, as often found in ULXs. The time scales of the X-ray variability are of the order of a month and are likely driven by small changes in the accretion rate or due to super-orbital modulations, attributed to precession of the accretion disc, which is similar to other ULXs., Comment: 6 pages, including 4 figures and 2 tables, accepted for pubblication in MNRAS

The NASA space telescope $TESS$ is currently in the extended mission of its all-sky search for new transiting planets. Of the thousands of candidates that TESS is expected to deliver, transiting planets orbiting nearby M dwarfs are particularly interesting targets since they provide a great opportunity to characterize their atmospheres by transmission spectroscopy. We aim to validate and characterize the new sub-Neptune-sized planet candidate TOI-2136.01 orbiting a nearby M dwarf ($d = 33.36 \pm 0.02$ pc, $T_{eff} = 3373 \pm 108$ K) with an orbital period of 7.852 days. We use TESS data, ground-based multicolor photometry, and radial velocity measurements with the InfraRed Doppler (IRD) instrument on the Subaru Telescope to validate the planetary nature of TOI-2136.01 and estimate the stellar and planetary parameters. We also conduct high-resolution transmission spectroscopy to search for helium in its atmosphere. We confirmed that TOI-2136.01 (now named as TOI-2136b) is a bona fide planet with a planetary radius of $R_p = 2.2 \pm 0.07$ $R_{Earth}$ and a mass of $M_p = 4.7^{+3.1}_{-2.6}$ $M_{Earth}$. We also search for helium 10830 \r{A} absorption lines and place an upper limit on the equivalent width of $<$ 7.8 m\r{A} and on the absorption signal of $<$ 1.44 % with 95 % confidence. TOI-2136b is a sub-Neptune transiting a nearby and bright star (J=10.8) and is a potentially hycean planet, which is a new class of habitable planets with large oceans under a H$_2$-rich atmosphere, making it an excellent target for atmospheric studies to understand the formation, evolution, and habitability of the small planets., Comment: 19 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Context. Exoplanets with orbital periods of less than one day are known as ultra-short period (USP) planets. They are relatively rare products of planetary formation and evolution processes, but especially favourable for characterisation with current planet detection methods. At the time of writing, 125 USP planets have already been confirmed. Aims. Our aim is to validate the planetary nature of two new transiting planet candidates around M dwarfs announced by the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), registered as TESS Objects of Interest (TOIs) TOI-1442.01 and TOI-2445.01. Methods. We used TESS data, ground-based photometric light curves, and Subaru/IRD spectrograph radial velocity (RV) measurements to validate both planetary candidates and to establish their physical properties. Results. TOI-1442 b is a validated exoplanet with an orbital period of $P$=0.4090682+/-0.0000004 d, a radius of $R_p$=1.15+/-0.06$R_{\oplus}$, and equilibrium temperature of $T_{p,eq}$=1357$_{-42}^{+49}$K. TOI-2445 b is also validated with an orbital period of $P$=0.3711286+/-0.0000004 d, a radius of $R_p$= 1.33+/-0.09$R_{\oplus}$, and equilibrium temperature of $T_{p,eq}$=1330$_{-56}^{+61}$K. Their physical properties align with current empirical trends and formation theories of USP planets. Based on the RV measurements, we set 3$\sigma$ upper mass limits of 8$M_{\oplus}$ and 20$M_{\oplus}$, thus confirming the non-stellar, sub-Jovian nature of both transiting objects. More RV measurements will be needed to constrain the planetary masses and mean densities, and the predicted presence of outer planetary companions. These targets extend the small sample of USP planets orbiting around M dwarfs up to 21 members. We present a search for axion-like particles, $a$, produced in photon-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of approximately 4 GeV, focusing on the scenario where the $a$-gluon coupling is dominant. The search uses $a\to\gamma\gamma$ and $a\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ decays, and a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 168 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the GlueX detector. The search for $a\to\gamma\gamma$ decays is performed in the mass range of $180 < m_a < 480$ MeV, while the search for $a\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ decays explores the $600 < m_a < 720$ MeV region. No evidence for a signal is found, and 90% confidence-level exclusion limits are placed on the $a$-gluon coupling strength. We report on the measurement of spin density matrix elements of the $\Lambda(1520)$ in the photoproduction reaction $\gamma p\rightarrow \Lambda(1520)K^+$, via its subsequent decay to $K^{-}p$. The measurement was performed as part of the GlueX experimental program in Hall D at Jefferson Lab using a linearly polarized photon beam with $E_\gamma =$ 8.2-8.8 GeV. These are the first such measurements in this photon energy range. Results are presented in bins of momentum transfer squared, $-(t-t_\text{0})$. The physics of the non-thermal Universe provides information on the acceleration mechanisms in extreme environments, such as black holes and relativistic jets, neutron stars, supernovae or clusters of galaxies. In the presence of magnetic fields, particles can be accelerated towards relativistic energies. As a consequence, radiation along the entire electromagnetic spectrum can be observed, and extreme environments are also the most likely sources of multi-messenger emission. The most energetic part of the electromagnetic spectrum corresponds to the very-high-energy (VHE, E>100 GeV) gamma-ray regime, which can be extensively studied with ground based Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs). The results obtained by the current generation of IACTs, such as H.E.S.S., MAGIC, and VERITAS, demonstrate the crucial importance of the VHE band in understanding the non-thermal emission of extreme environments in our Universe. In some objects, the energy output in gamma rays can even outshine the rest of the broadband spectrum. The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the next generation of IACTs, which, with cutting edge technology and a strategic configuration of ~100 telescopes distributed in two observing sites, in the northern and southern hemispheres, will reach better sensitivity, angular and energy resolution, and broader energy coverage than currently operational IACTs. The discovery of gravitational waves, high-energy neutrinos or the very-high-energy counterpart of gamma-ray bursts has revolutionized the high-energy and transient astrophysics community. The development of new instruments and analysis techniques will allow the discovery and/or follow-up of new transient sources. We describe the prospects for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), the next-generation ground-based gamma-ray observatory, for multi-messenger and transient astrophysics in the decade ahead. This white paper briefly summarizes the importance of the study of relativistic cosmic rays, both as a constituent of our Universe, and through their impact on stellar and galactic evolution. This work reports on the design, implementation and evaluation of a survey used as a remote sanitary filter, which was applied in the Adventist Educational System of Baja California. During the SARS-CoV-2 sanitary contingency. This with the intention of acquiring information safely and in real time. Allowing to safeguard the integrity of the educational community as a whole. Accessible and easily distributed digital resources were used in order to meet the necessary requirements of distribution, acquisition and management of the information. These were adapted to the previously established communication dynamic of the educational system. The use of the survey as a sanitary filter allowed to acquire relevant health information from the student community and facilitated decision-making regarding class attendance by their tutors.These in consideration to the conditions established by educational and health authorities. Despite the short time during the design and implementation, the communication of the educational system allowed the effective distribution, application and monitoring of the digital survey. Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has been the gold standard for total knee replacements. Due to the knee's natural movements, UHMWPE wear debris production is inevitable. The debris, at the micron and submicron level, results in the joint's mechanical instability, reduced mobility, increased pain, and implant loosening. Wear debris production has been linked to UHMWPE mechanical properties; therefore, improvements to increase the UHMWPE mechanical properties will impact the component's longevity. Here, TiC coating and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used to decrease the UHMWPE wear. After 400,000 cycles, the UHMWPE-MWCNT diminishes the mass loss compared to UHMWPE, and the combination with TiC decreased the material loss by ~ 43.7 % compared to the reference pair. We report a measurement of the $\pi^-$ photoproduction beam asymmetry for the reaction $\vec{\gamma} p \rightarrow \pi^- \Delta^{++}$ using data from the GlueX experiment in the photon beam energy range 8.2--8.8 GeV. The asymmetry $\Sigma$ is measured as a function of four-momentum transfer $t$ to the $\Delta^{++}$ and compared to phenomenological models. We find that $\Sigma$ varies as a function of $t$: negative at smaller values and positive at higher values of $|t|$. The reaction can be described theoretically by $t$-channel particle exchange requiring pseudoscalar, vector, and tensor intermediaries. In particular, this reaction requires charge exchange, allowing us to probe pion exchange and the significance of higher-order corrections to one-pion exchange at low momentum transfer. Constraining production mechanisms of conventional mesons may aid in the search for and study of unconventional mesons. In this work the first results obtained by LabOSat-01 platform are presented. This platform was designed for testing custom devices on board of small satellites. Two LabOSat-01 type boards were launched and placed into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) on May 30, 2016. We present here an analysis of data collected by one of these boards during the first days of mission. Total Ionization Dose results are compared with data acquired by LabOSat-01`s predecessor board, MeMOSat-01, launched in 2014.

After two major outbursts in 2006 and 2011, on 2017 May 16 the magnetar CXOU J164710.2-455216, hosted within the massive star cluster Westerlund I, emitted a short (20 ms) burst, which marked the onset of a new active phase. We started a long-term monitoring campaign with Swift (45 observations), Chandra (5 observations) and NuSTAR (4 observations) from the activation until 2018 April. During the campaign, Swift BAT registered the occurrence of multiple bursts, accompanied by two other enhancements of the X-ray persistent flux. The long time span covered by our observations allowed us to study the spectral as well as the timing evolution of the source. After 11 months since the 2017 May outburst onset, the observed flux was about 15 times higher than its historical minimum level and a factor of 3 higher than the level reached after the 2006 outburst. This suggests that the crust has not fully relaxed to the quiescent level, or that the source quiescent level has changed following the multiple outburst activities in the past 10 years or so. Relations between discrete quantities such as people, genes, or streets can be described by networks, which consist of nodes that are connected by edges. Network analysis aims to identify important nodes in a network and to uncover structural properties of a network. A network is said to be bipartite if its nodes can be subdivided into two nonempty sets such that there are no edges between nodes in the same set. It is a difficult task to determine the closest bipartite network to a given network. This paper describes how a given network can be approximated by a bipartite one by solving a sequence of fairly simple optimization problems. The algorithm also produces a node permutation which makes the possible bipartite nature of the initial adjacency matrix evident, and identifies the two sets of nodes. We finally show how the same procedure can be used to detect the presence of a large anti-community in a network and to identify it., Comment: 30 pages

The effect of isothermal pre-oxidation treatments on the \b{eta}-(Ni,Pt)Al + Ren\'e N5 system degradation is here reported. The oxidation treatments were carried out from 900 (mostly {\theta}-Al2O3 growing conditions) to 1200{\deg}C (mainly {\alpha}-Al2O3 growing conditions) for 5 h, under a purified Ar-stream with a fixed pO2= 1 x 10-5 atm. Results are discussed based on the correlation between the structural, microstructural and chemical properties of the \b{eta}-(Ni,Pt)Al BC showing that pre-oxidation parameters have an important effect on the multi-elemental counter diffusion phenomena along BC. For instance, a significant BC+IDZ thickness increase of 55% at 1200 {\deg}C was observed with respect to as-received sample just after 5 h of oxidation resulting in a severe BC degradation., Comment: 18 pages, 7 Figures

Heterogeneous systems appear as a viable design alternative for the dark silicon era. In this paradigm, a processor chip includes several different technological alternatives for implementing a certain logical block (e.g., core, on-chip memories) which cannot be used at the same time due to power constraints. The programmer and compiler are then responsible for selecting which of the alternatives should be used for maximizing performance and/or energy efficiency for a given application. This paper presents an initial approach for the exploration of different technological alternatives for the implementation of on-chip memories. It hinges on a linear programming-based model for theoretically comparing the performance offered by the available alternatives, namely SRAM and STT-RAM scratchpads or caches. Experimental results using a cycle-accurate simulation tool confirm that this is a viable model for implementation into production compilers.

The effect of graded or constant bias voltages (-40 V, -80 V and -40/60/80 V) on size grain and surface defects of arc PVD deposited CrN films was investigated. Corrosion resistance evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic curves (Tafel) and the mechanical behavior evaluated by means of instrumented nanoindentation and scratch testing was correlated with the microstructural changes. It was found that the bias voltage variation affects corrosion behavior due to the presence of defects (i.e. open voids, droplets) which also affects the failure mechanisms and increasing spallation. High bias voltage (-80 V) increases nano-hardness and the elastic modulus due to the dense microstructure of the CrN coating.

Present work was aimed to investigate the effect of nitriding time; 1, 1.5, 2.5 & 3.5 h, on surface characteristics & mechanical properties (surface nano-hardness, hardness Vickers, and adhesion) of AISI M2 tool steel. Surface properties enhancement was associated to two harmonious effects at the nano-scale resulted by (a) stable nitride phases formation such as: gamma-Fe4N, epsilon-Fe2,3N, and (b) no brittle nitride networks and no critical decarburization of the steel upon nitriding. A theoretical-experimental methodology for failure analysis of the c-Al0.66Ti0.33N / Interface / M2 steel coating system is proposed here. This c-Al0.66Ti0.33N coating was deposited by the arc-PVD technique. For coating modeling the traction-separation law and the extended finite element method-XFEM were applied, the cohesive zones model was used for interface modeling and the Ramberg-Osgood law for substrate modeling. Experimental values using the instrumented nanoindentation technique, the scratch test and tensile stress test were obtained and introduced into the model. By means of nanoindentation the elastic modulus of coating, the fracture energy release rate and the nano-hardness. Normal and shear stress values of the interface were obtained with the scratch test, at the adhesive and cohesive critical loads. Vickers indentation was used to generate cracking patterns in the c-Al0.66Ti0.33N / Interface / M2 steel coating system. Radial and lateral cracks were generated and analyzed after transversal FIB cuts of the fracture zones. A finite element analysis was carried out to understand the relationship between the load-displacement curve and mechanical failure of in the system, associating the pop-in with nucleation, crack growth and cracking pattern. This works present a theoretical-experimental methodology for failure analysis of hard coatings (monolithic body) allowing to calculate fracture toughness of the coating material and model cracking patterns caused by contact mechanics.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings have excellent mechanical and tribological properties, as well as good wear and corrosion resistance. They are well established in medical, metalworking and automotive applications. However, further improvements are needed and substrate pre-treatment plays an important role in supporting and enforcing the adhesion and service performance of the DLC coatings. In this work, the synergetic effect of low-pressure arc plasma-assisted-nitriding (PAN) treatment of M2 steel and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) on the DLC coatings adhesion was analyzed. Adhesion strength of a duplex DLC + nitriding coating system was compared to the performance of DLC-coatings applied on non-nitrided M2 steel substrates. The nitrided layer was analyzed by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Vickers microhardness and atomic force microscopy. DLC coatings were analyzed using Raman spectroscopy revealing that DLC a-C:H type was obtained. The adhesion properties were analyzed by scratch testing supported by optical microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope. The effect of temperature in high purity Ar (low oxygen partial pressure) on the oxidation and crystal phase evolution of c-Al0.66Ti0.33N arc-PVD coatings was investigated. High temperature tribology in Ar jet and adhesion behavior of the oxidized coating were addressed. The use of Ar protects the coating from the oxidation reactions and allowed to shed light into the details and paths of the nitride oxidation process. The c-Al0.66Ti0.33N nitrides were slightly oxidized in Ar even at high temperature. The surface chemistry evaluation shows very thin Al- and Ti-based oxide layers formation after 700C in Ar. However, the onset formation of the rutile TiO2 oxide was detected only after 900C and was clearly found by low-angle XRD diffraction after 1000C. XPS analysis of the oxidized samples at 800C indicated the formation of extremely thin layers mainly composed of mixed oxides a-Al2O3 g-Al2O3 and r-TiO2. Gradual changes in the chemical composition of the oxidized coatings observed at 900C clearly demonstrate the formation of gradient boundaries between Al-rich and Ti-rich oxy-nitride layers. After 1000C at least four oxides and oxi-nitrides layers and interlayers were found. Additionally, it is suspected that the transition oxide phases such as c-TiO, c-Al0.54Ti2.46O0.28N4.58, alpha-Al2TiO5 and TiOxNy might be precursors leading to the formation of thermodynamically stable rutile and alumina phases. Surface inspection after high temperature tribology in Ar jet showed formation of tensile cracks in the wear tracks and wear processes due to high size particle adhesion-abrasion and low size particle micro-ploughing of hard nitrides, oxi-nitrides and brittle oxide particles. Reconstructing the 3D shape of an object from a set of images is a classical problem in Computer Vision. Photometric stereo is one of the possible approaches. It stands on the assumption that the object is observed from a fixed point of view under different lighting conditions. The traditional approach requires that the position of the light sources is accurately known. It has been proved that the lights position can be estimated directly from the data, when at least 6 images of the observed object are available. NGC 925 ULX-1 and ULX-2 are two ultraluminous X-ray sources in the galaxy NGC 925, at a distance of 8.5 Mpc. For the first time, we analyzed high quality, simultaneous XMM-Newton and NuSTAR data of both sources. Although at a first glance ULX-1 resembles an intermediate mass black hole candidate (IMBH) because of its high X-ray luminosity ($(2$$-$$4)\times10^{40}$ erg s$^{-1}$) and its spectral/temporal features, a closer inspection shows that its properties are more similar to those of a typical super-Eddington accreting stellar black hole and we classify it as a `broadened disc' ultraluminous X-ray source. Based on the physical interpretation of this spectral state, we suggest that ULX-1 is seen at small inclination angles, possibly through the evacuated cone of a powerful wind originating in the accretion disc. The spectral classification of ULX-2 is less certain, but we disfavour an IMBH accreting at sub-Eddington rates as none of its spectral/temporal properties can be associated to either the soft or hard state of Galactic accreting black hole binaries., Comment: Accepted on MNRAS with very minor comments, 7 pages, 5 figures, 1 table

We report on the serendipitous discovery of a new transient in NGC 5907, at a peak luminosity of 6.4x10^{39} erg/s. The source was undetected in previous 2012 Chandra observations with a 3 sigma upper limit on the luminosity of 1.5x10^{38} erg/s, implying a flux increase of a factor of >35. We analyzed three recent 60ks/50ks Chandra and 50ks XMM-Newton observations, as well as all the available Swift observations performed between August 2017/March 2018. Until the first half of October 2017, Swift observations do not show any emission from the source. The transient entered the ULX regime in less than two weeks and its outburst was still on-going at the end of February 2018. The 0.3-10 keV spectrum is consistent with a single multicolour blackbody disc (kT~1.5 keV). The source might be a ~30 solar mass black hole accreting at the Eddington limit. However, although we did not find evidence of pulsations, we cannot rule-out the possibility that this ULX hosts an accreting neutron star., Comment: Accepted on MNRAS, 5 pages, 2 figure, 1 table
