The aim of this note is to unveil a striking equivalence between the one-loop divergences in 7D Einstein and 6D Conformal Gravities. The particular combination of 6D pointwise Weyl invariants of the 6D Conformal Gravity corresponds to that of Branson's Q-curvature and can be written solely in terms of the Ricci tensor and its covariant derivatives. The quadratic metric fluctuations of this action, 6D Weyl graviton, are endowed with a sixth-order kinetic operator that happens to factorize on a 6D Einstein background into product of three shifted Lichnerowicz Laplacians. We exploit this feature to use standard heat kernel techniques and work out in one go the UV logarithmic divergences of the theory that contains in this case the four Weyl anomaly coefficients. In a seemingly unrelated computation, we determine the one-loop IR logarithmic divergences of 7D Einstein Gravity in a particular 7D Poincar\'e-Einstein background that is asymptotically hyperbolic and has the above 6D Einstein manifold at its conformal infinity or boundary. We show the full equivalence of both computations, as an outgrowth of the IR/UV connection in AdS/CFT correspondence, and in this way the time-honoured one-loop calculations in Einstein and higher-derivative gravities take an interesting new turn., Comment: v4: new reference and few comments added

In this work we continue the study of the one-loop partition function for higher derivative conformal higher spin (CHS) fields in six dimensions and its holographic counterpart given by massless higher spin Fronsdal fields in seven dimensions. In going beyond the conformal class of the boundary round 6-sphere, we start by considering a Ricci-flat, but not conformally flat, boundary and the corresponding Poincar\'e-Einstein spacefilling metric. Here we are able to match the UV logarithmic divergence of the boundary with the IR logarithmic divergence of the bulk, very much like in the known 4D/5D setting, under the assumptions of factorization of the higher derivative CHS kinetic operator and WKB-exactness of the heat kernel of the dual bulk field. A key technical ingredient in this construction is the determination of the fourth heat kernel coefficient b6 for Lichnerowicz Laplacians on both 6D and 7D Einstein manifolds. These results allow to obtain, in addition to the already known type-A Weyl anomaly, two of the three independent type-B anomaly coefficients in terms of the third, say c_3 for instance. In order to gain access to c_3, and thus determine the four central charges independently, we further consider a generic non Ricci-flat Einstein boundary. However, in this case we find a mismatch between boundary and bulk computations for spins higher than two. In this work it is shown that the thermodynamics of regular black holes with a cosmological horizon, which are solutions of Lovelock gravity, determines that they must evolve either into a state where the black hole and cosmological horizons have reached thermal equilibrium or into an extreme black hole geometry where the black hole and cosmological horizons have merged. This differs from the behavior of Schwarzschild de Sitter geometry which evolves into a de Sitter space, the ground state of the space of solutions. This occurs due to a phase transition of the heat capacity of the black hole horizon. To perform that analysis it is shown that at each horizon a local first law of thermodynamics can be obtained from the gravitational equations.

As has been shown in the literature (Rothe and Rothe, 2010; Rothe and Scholtz, 2003), the description of a mechanical system in terms of canonical transformations together with the Hamilton–Jacobi equation for the S function is ill-defined when the system has second class constraints. In this case, Caratheodory’s integrability conditions are violated and either the corresponding Hamilton–Jacobi equation cannot be solved or their solutions do not describe the system at all. This can be remedied by enlarging the phase space so that the constraints become first class in the extended space. Another way to approach this problem, is to apply the Rothe–Scholtz method discussed in Rothe and Rothe (2010) and Rothe and Scholtz (2003), so that the constraints themselves become variables of a new canonical transformation. This method works when the elements of the Dirac matrix are constant. On the other hand, it has been shown that optimal control theory can be written in phase space as a mechanical system with second class restrictions (Itami, 2001; Hojman, 0000; Contreras et al., 2017; Contreras and Pena 2018). This implies that the description of control theory can become inconsistent in terms of the Hamilton–Jacobi equation. In this article we will use the description of Rothe–Scholtz to analyse a subclass of LQ linear-quadratic problems whose Dirac matrix is constant and to check if the integrability conditions can be fulfilled so as to not get inconsistencies.

Indexación: Scopus. In this work two new families of non-singular or regular black hole solutions are displayed. These black holes behave as de Sitter space near its center and have a well defined AdS asymptotic region for negative cosmological constant. These solutions are constructed on a general ground through the introduction of a finite density of mass/energy. This removes the usual singularity of a black hole and also introduces a new internal geometry. In the context of the anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence, 4D AdS gravity is suitably renormalized by adding the Gauss Bonnet term to the Einstein-Hilbert action. The subsequent addition of the Pontryagin term, with a specific coupling, allows to write the on-shell action in terms of the Weyl tensor and its dual, such that the action becomes stationary for asymptotic (anti) self-dual solutions in the Weyl tensor. The addition to the action of both topological invariants mentioned above does not modify the bulk dynamics, but it does modify the expression of the Noether current and, therefore, the conserved quantities of the theory. Here, we show that the method of Iyer and Wald leads to a fully-covariant Noether charge, which contains both the electric and magnetic parts of the Weyl tensor. For configurations which are globally (anti) self-dual in the Weyl tensor, both the action and the Noether charge identically vanish. This means that, for such spacetimes, the magnetic mass is equal to the electric mass. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. We present exact solutions to Vasiliev's bosonic higher spin gravity equations in four dimensions with positive and negative cosmological constant that admit an interpretation in terms of domain walls, quasi-instantons and Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) backgrounds. Their isometry algebras are infinite dimensional higher-spin extensions of spacetime isometries generated by six Killing vectors. The solutions presented are obtained by using a method of holomorphic factorization in noncommutative twistor space and gauge functions. In interpreting the solutions in terms of Fronsdal-type fields in spacetime, a field-dependent higher spin transformation is required, which is implemented at leading order. To this order, the scalar field solves Klein-Gordon equation with conformal mass in (anti) de Sitter space. We interpret the FRW solution with de Sitter asymptotics in the context of inflationary cosmology and we expect that the domain wall and FRW solutions are associated with spontaneously broken scaling symmetries in their holographic description. We observe that the factorization method provides a convenient framework for setting up a perturbation theory around the exact solutions, and we propose that the nonlinear completion of particle excitations over FRW and domain wall solutions requires black hole-like states., Comment: 63 pages

We present a first attempt to derive the full (type-A and type-B) Weyl anomaly of four dimensional conformal higher spin (CHS) fields in a holographic way. We obtain the type-A and type-B Weyl anomaly coefficients for the whole family of 4D CHS fields from the one-loop effective action for massless higher spin (MHS) Fronsdal fields evaluated on a 5D bulk Poincar\'e-Einstein metric with an Einstein metric on its conformal boundary. To gain access to the type-B anomaly coefficient we assume, for practical reasons, a Lichnerowicz-type coupling of the bulk Fronsdal fields with the bulk background Weyl tensor. Remarkably enough, our holographic findings under this simplifying assumption are certainly not unknown: they match the results previously found on the boundary counterpart under the assumption of factorization of the CHS higher-derivative kinetic operator into Laplacians of "partially massless" higher spins on Einstein backgrounds., Comment: 19 pages. In this article the study of four dimensional spaces with NUT charges and their ground states is continued. In particular, through the introduction of an improved action principle containing topological densities, it is shown that these spaces have simple and sound thermodynamic relations. As an example the entropy of Taub-Bolt-AdS solution is computed in terms of a Noether charge.

In this work we study a brane world model with variable tension which gives rise to four dimensional cosmologies. The brane worlds obtained correspond to E\"{o}tv\"{o}s branes whose (internal) geometry can be casted as either a four dimensional (A)dS$_{4}$ or a standard radiation period cosmology. The matter dominated period is discussed as well.

We provide a fully-covariant expression for the diffeomorphic charge in 4D anti-de Sitter gravity, when the Gauss-Bonnet and Pontryagin terms are added to the action. The couplings of these topological invariants are such that the Weyl tensor and its dual appear in the on-shell variation of the action, and such that the action is stationary for asymptotic (anti) self-dual solutions in the Weyl tensor. In analogy with Euclidean electromagnetism, whenever the self-duality condition is global, both the action and the total charge are identically vanishing. The leitmotif of this paper is the question of whether four- and higher even-dimensional Conformal Gravities do have a Chern-Simons pedigree. We show that Weyl gravity can be obtained as dimensional reduction of a five-dimensional Chern-Simons action for a suitable (gauged-fixed, tractor-like) five-dimensional AdS connection. We study a solution of Einstein's equations that describes a straight cosmic string with a variable angular deficit, starting with a $2 \pi$ deficit at the core. We show that the coordinate singularity associated to this defect can be interpreted as a traversible wormhole lodging at the the core of the string. A negative energy density gradually decreases the angular deficit as the distance from the core increases, ending, at radial infinity, in a Minkowski spacetime. The negative energy density can be confined to a small transversal section of the string by gluing to it an exterior Gott's like solution, that freezes the angular deficit existing at the matching border. The equation of state of the string is such that any massive particle may stay at rest anywhere in this spacetime. In this sense this is 2+1 spacetime solution., Comment: 1 tex file and 5 eps files. In this work it is studied a generalization of Randall Sundrum model. It is obtained new behaviors of {\it warp factor}, constraints in that the strong brane has tension of positive sign and, new relations between the coupling constants $\kappa_4$, $\kappa_5$ and between the Higgs and Planck masses., Comment: 4 pages

Quantum effects due to conformal matter in a black hole background result in universal logarithmic corrections to black-hole entropy. The universality resides in the connection of the log term coefficient with those of type-A and type-B Weyl anomalies, regularization-scheme independent quantities. We presently study the case of extremal black holes within Wald's Noether charge formalism. In the conformal class of flat metrics, we are again able to unveil the log term in the entropy from the horizon value of the solution to the Q-curvature uniformization problem. Beyond conformally flat backgrounds, type-B Weyl anomaly becomes an obstruction to considering flat space as the fiducial metric and the search for a metric of constant Q-curvature remains open. Notwithstanding, by a uniform scaling argument we show that the results based on heat kernel and euclidean computations (namely entropy function and conical defect) can also be derived as Wald entropy, that is, as Noether charge of the integrated anomaly or conformal index. We elaborate on an entry of the AdS/CFT dictionary relating functional determinants: the determinant of the one-loop contribution to the effective gravitational action by bulk scalars in an asymptotically locally AdS background X, and the determinant of the two-point function of the dual operator (a.k.a. scattering matrix) at the conformal boundary M. The formula originates from AdS/CFT heuristics that map a quantum contribution in the bulk gravitational partition function to a subleading large-N contribution in the boundary CFT partition function: The formula applies to quotients of AdS as well [1]. In the particular case of the BTZ black hole, a closed expression can be worked out in terms of an associated Patterson-Selberg zeta function ZBTZ (λ) [2]. The determinants can then be thought of as regularized products of either zeta zeros, scattering resonances or quasinormal frequencies [3]. In this sense, one could say that the zeros of ZBTZ (λ) can be heard in the spectrum of quasinormal modes of the BTZ black hole. The question we want to pose is whether a similar situation might exist for the celebrated zeros of the Riemann zeta function.

An alternative method to compute the entropy of de Sitter spacetime for dimensions higher than or equal to five is presented. It is shown that de Sitter entropy may be obtained from the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a lower-dimensional black hole. This result follows from the existence of a one-to-one correspondence between de Sitter and a spacetime containing a black hole localized on a p-brane. Under this correspondence and due to the holographic principle, the entropy of a five-dimensional de Sitter space may be obtained from that of a BTZ black hole localized on a 2-brane. For dimensions higher than five, de Sitter entropy is identified with the entropy of a Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole localized on a (d-3)-brane., Final version

We present a holographic formula relating functional determinants: the fermion determinant in the one-loop effective action of bulk spinors in an asymptotically locally AdS background, and the determinant of the two-point function of the dual operator at the conformal boundary. The formula originates from AdS/CFT heuristics that map a quantum contribution in the bulk partition function to a subleading large-N contribution in the boundary partition function. We use this holographic picture to address questions in spectral theory and conformal geometry. We consider the role of the type-A trace anomaly in static black hole solutions to semiclassical Einstein equation in four dimensions. Via Wald's Noether charge formalism, we compute the contribution to the entropy coming from the anomaly induced effective action and unveil a logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law. The corrected entropy is given by a seemingly universal formula involving the coefficient of the type-A trace anomaly, the Euler characteristic of the horizon and the value at the horizon of the solution to the uniformization problem for Q-curvature. Two instances are examined in detail: Schwarzschild and a four-dimensional massless topological black hole. In this article it is shown that the thermodynamical evolution of a Schwarzschild de Sitter space is the evaporation of its black hole. The result is extended in higher dimensions to Lovelock theories of gravity with a single positive cosmological constant.

Some years ago it was shown that the cosmological constant may be reduced by thermal production of membranes that, after nucleation, collapse into a black hole. The probability of the process was calculated in the leading semiclassical approximation by studying an associated Euclidean configuration called the thermalon. Here we investigate the thermalon in three spacetime dimensions, describing the nucleation of closed strings that collapse into point particle singularities. In this context we may analyze the one-loop structure without the well known problems brought in by the propagating gravitational degrees of freedom. We found that the coupling to gravity may increase the number of negative eigenvalues of the operator.

The Kaluza-Klein compactification process is applied in five dimensions to CS gravity, for the anti-de Sitter and Poincar\'e groups, using the first order formalism. We explicitly calculate the induced gravity theory at the boundary of an asymptotically Anti-de Sitter five dimensional Einstein gravity. We also display the action that encodes the dynamics of radial diffeomorphisms. It is found that the induced theory is a four dimensional conformal gravity plus a scalar field. We describe a holographic approach to explicitly compute the universal logarithmic contributions to entanglement and Renyi entropies for free conformal scalar and spinor fields on even-dimensional spheres. This holographic derivation proceeds in two steps: first, following Casini and Huerta, a conformal map to thermal entropy in a hyperbolic geometry; then, identification of the hyperbolic geometry with the conformal boundary of a bulk hyperbolic space and use of an AdS/CFT holographic formula to compute the resulting functional determinant. We explicitly verify the connection with the type-A trace anomaly for the entanglement entropy, whereas the Renyi entropy is computed with aid of the Sommerfeld formula in order to deal with a conical defect. As a by-product, we show that the log-coefficient of the Renyi entropy for round spheres can be efficiently obtained as the q-analog of a procedure similar to the one found by Cappelli and D'Appollonio that rendered the type-A trace anomaly., 9 pages

Asymptotically locally AdS black hole geometries of dimension d > 2 are studied for nontrivial topologies of the transverse section. These geometries are static solutions of a set of theories labeled by an integer 0 < k < [(d-1)/2] which possess a unique globally AdS vacuum. The transverse sections of these solutions are d-2 surfaces of constant curvature, allowing for different topological configurations. The thermodynamic analysis of these solutions reveals that the presence of a negative cosmological constant is essential to ensure the existence of stable equilibrium states. Lanczos-Lovelock theories of gravity, in its first order version, are studied on asymptotically locally anti de Sitter spaces. It is shown that thermodynamics satisfies the standard behavior and an expression for entropy is found for this formalism. Finally a short analysis of the algebra of conserved charges is displayed.

Indexación: Scopus A new formula for the conserved charges in 3+1 gravity for spacetimes with local anti-de Sitter asymptotic geometry is proposed. It is shown that requiring the action to have an extremum for this class of asymptotia sets the boundary term that must be added to the Lagrangian as the Euler density with a fixed weight factor. The resulting action gives rise to the mass and angular momentum as Noether charges associated to the asymptotic Killing vectors without requiring specification of a reference background in order to have a convergent expression. A consequence of this definition is that any negative constant curvature spacetime has vanishing Noether charges. We continue the study of a special entry in the AdS/CFT dictionary, namely a holographic formula relating the functional determinant of the scattering operator in an asymptotically locally anti-de Sitter (ALAdS) space to a relative functional determinant of the scalar Laplacian in the bulk. A heuristic derivation of the formula involves a one-loop quantum effect in the bulk and the corresponding sub-leading correction at large N on the boundary. We presently explore a higher-dimensional version of the spinning BTZ black hole obtained as a quotient of hyperbolic space by a discrete subgroup of isometries generated by a loxodromic (or hyperbolic) element consisting of dilation (temperature) and torsion angles (spinning). The bulk computation is done using heat-kernel techniques and fractional calculus. At the boundary, we get a recursive scheme that allows us to range from the non-spinning to the full-fledged spinning geometries. The determinants are compactly expressed in terms of an associated (Patterson-)Selberg zeta function and a connection to quasi-normal frequencies is discussed., 13 pages

A class of black objects which are solutions of pure gravity with negative cosmological constant are classified through the mapping between the Killing spinors of the ground state and those of the transverse section. It is shown that these geometries must have transverse sections of constant curvature for spacetime dimensions d below seven. For d > 6, the transverse sections can also be Euclidean Einstein manifolds. In even dimensions, spacetimes with transverse section of nonconstant curvature exist only in d = 8 and 10. This classification goes beyond standard supergravity and the eleven dimensional case is analyzed. It is shown that if the transverse section has negative scalar curvature, only extended objects can have a supersymmetric ground state.
