The United Nations is formally committed to gender mainstreaming in all policies and programmes, and that should include policy-making processes relating to climate change. Yet gender aspects are rarely addressed in climate-change policy, either at the national or at the international levels. Reasons include gaps in gender-sensitive data and knowledge about the links between gender justice1 and climate change; and the lack of participation of women and gender experts in climate-related negotiations. This article shares insights and experiences from the international climate-change policy process, recounting the history of women's participation, demonstrating progress achieved, and hoping to inspire women and gender experts to get involved - at the local, national, regional, and international levels. The article presents information regarding a case study on the utilization of the knowledge of repatriates within a company. It reflects that if a company can fully employ this knowledge, then the repatriates can play a rare, hard to imitate role in helping their firms sustain competitive advantage. It comments on four major categories of expatriate knowledge, which were found in the available literature. They are market-specific knowledge, personal skills, job-related management skills and network skills. The case study presented in the article is an exploratory qualitative one, of the Austrian commercial banks, in which nineteen repatriates Australia were interviewed. The technique adopted for data collection was that of narrative interview and techniques. It confirmed the existent categories, which were mentioned in the literature and also identified an additional category of importance regarding the expatriate knowledge, which were not identified in the literature. The research confirms enhanced general management capacity of expatriates when they were having their assignment abroad.
