- Abstract
This was a quantitative, retrospective, correlational, cross-sectional study that aimed to provide normative CDT (Clock-Drawing Test) data for older adults, taking into account different age groups and educational levels. The sample included 235 older adults distributed among five age groups and four levels of education. The instruments were Sociodemographic Data Sheet, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Geriatric Depression Scale reduced version (GDS-15), the Semantic Verbal Fluency Task (TFVS), and the CDT. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and univariate analysis (one-way ANOVA) with Scheffe post hoc were used. The CDT scores showed significant associations with age, years of schooling, MMSE, TFVS, and GDS-15. There was a difference in performance in CDT when considering age groups. The present study was able to provide normative values for CDT in a sample of older adults in southern Brazil that were influenced by age, education, depressive symptoms, and verbal fluency. COGNITIVE rehabilitation , *JUDGES , *TEST validity , *NEUROPSYCHOLOGY , *COGNITION - Abstract
This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Cognition Functional Rehabilitation Activities Manual for Brazil. This manual helps therapists, professionals and family members to stimulate or rehabilitate cognitive skills of individuals with cognitive difficulties. The work was divided into two stages: 1) Translation and cultural adaptation of the manual for the Brazilian context; and 2) Evidence of content validity through the qualitative analysis of three experts in neuropsychology. The level of agreement between the expert judges regarding the main construct rehabilitated by each activity was 100%, as well as the secondary constructs rehabilitated by them. Regarding the characterization of activities, 16.67% underwent changes based on the analysis of expert judges, with an adaptation of these to the current and Brazilian context. Based on that, it can be concluded that the Cognition Functional Rehabilitation Activities Manual has evidence of content validity for use in Brazil, suggesting its use for stimulation and cognitive rehabilitation of individuals. - Abstract
The study investigated the association between learning strategies and academic self-efficacy in elementary school students, identified profiles according to these variables and compared them in relation to psychopathological symptoms. The sample included 252 participants (126 elementary school students and 126 parents/guardians). The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire, Script for the Assessment of the Sense of Self-efficacy (SASS), Learning Strategies Assessment Scale for Elementary Education (LSAS-EE) and Child Behavior Checklist. There was an association between the SASS subscales and the LSASEE subscales. The cluster analysis identified two profiles: 1) high scores in the SASS and LSAS-EE and 2) low scores in these instruments, which demonstrated a higher occurrence of psychopathological symptoms. Understanding how these variables relate to elementary school students contributes to the promotion of earlier interventions focused on academic performance and motivation for learning. PERSONALITY , *CAT owners , *MENTAL depression , *DOG owners , *LONGITUDINAL method - Abstract
The study compares personality factors, symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress between owners and non-pet owners. A total of 145 adults participated, between 18 and 78 years (M = 30.96, SD = 12.10). Participants were divided according to the type of pet they had: 1) dogs, 2) cats, 3) dogs and cats. The results suggest that people who do not have pets showed more anxiety symptoms than those who have pets. Dogs and cats owners showed higher scores of conscientiousness personality factor than participants who did not have any pets. The results reveal differences between animals owners and non-owners. There is a need for studies using mediating variables analyzes, as well as longitudinal research that can explore the feasible causal relationship between different characteristics of people who own pets and well-being. Purpose: To analyze the influence of gender, age, and types of school (public or private) on phoneme production, and provide normative data on phonological acquisition in Brazilian Portuguese (BP). Patients and Methods: The sample consisted of 733 children (ages 3 years to 8 years and 11 months), all monolingual speakers of BP with typical phonological development. Participants were evaluated using the spontaneous naming task from the Phonological Assessment Tool (Instrumento de Avaliação Fonológica – INFONO). The children's speech production was audio-recorded, transcribed, and submitted to phonological analysis. Results: The effect of age was significant for all phonemes and syllable structures, especially when analyzed in combination with types of school and gender. Overall, phoneme production accuracy increased with age and varied depending on the types of school attended by the children, but did not differ between genders. Conclusion: Age had a greater impact on phoneme production. The normative data on phonological acquisition highlighted the differences between the ages of mastery for different phonemes, with elements such as the /r/ sound and complex onsets being acquired much later in development than some of the other phonemes analyzed. Patients with right hemisphere brain damage (RBD) usually experience communication impairments. This study aims to investigate the communication processing in patients who suffered a stroke in the right hemisphere. The sample comprised 100 participants: 25 with RBD, 25 with left hemisphere brain damage (LBD) and 50 neurologically healthy controls (NHC). Participants answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Mini Mental State Examination to measure general cognitive ability, the Geriatric Depression Scale and the Beck Depression Scale to investigate depressive symptoms, the Bells Test to evaluate hemineglect and the Modified Ranking Scale to verify functional capacity. The communication processing was assessed with the use of the Montreal Communication Evaluation Battery, brief version – Brief MAC Battery. The scores were compared using a One-Way ANOVA and the Chi-squared test. There were significant differences between RBD and NHC groups in 89% of the tasks, but not between RBD and LBD groups. Furthermore, the RBD showed inferior communication skills compared to the NHC group. These findings indicate an interhemispheric cooperation for communication processing.
