Abstract: A 63-year-old man was remitted for a 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT scan due to biochemical recurrence with a PSA of 0.32 ng/mL 1 year after radical prostatectomy of locally advanced Gleason 6 (3 + 3) ISUP 2 pT3a pN0 prostate cancer. 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT showed multiple cutaneous and subcutaneous uptake foci in the upper body. Physical examination revealed numerous dome-shaped, ruby-red papules. These were consistent with a previous diagnosis of cutaneous hemangiomas. Cherry hemangiomas (also known as Campbell de Morgan spots) are the most common type of benign vascular proliferation of the skin. Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of [ 68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT (PET-PSMA) in local and loco-regional nodal staging compared with histopathological results in intermediate- and high-risk prostate cancer patients treated with radical prostatectomy (RP) and pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND)., Materials Y Methods: A total of 122 intermediate- and high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) patients staged with PET-PSMA and treated with RP (36/122) and RP plus PLND (86/122) from December 2018 to December 2023 were included. Visual and semiquantitative analysis findings using the SUVmax of the molecular imaging were correlated with histopathological results., Results: The primary tumor was visible by PET-PSMA in 96.7% of the patients. A positive correlation was found between PSA levels and SUVmax (Spearman's r: 0.303, p < 0.001). PET-PSMA detected nodal involvement in 25/89 patients (28.08%). The sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy of PET-PSMA for detecting nodal involvement were 75%, 82.2%, and 80.9%, respectively. Patients with PSA levels >20 ng/mL, Gleason score ≥7b, ISUP grade >2, and extracapsular extension showed significantly higher SUVmax values. No differences were observed in SUVmax between risk groups or in other histopathological variables., Conclusions: PET-PSMA is an effective tool for the initial staging of intermediate- and high-risk PCa. Objectives: Epigenetically modified fibroblasts contribute to chronicity in inflammatory diseases. Reasons for the relapsing character of large vessel vasculitis (LVV) remain obscure, including the role of fibroblasts, in part due to limited access to biopsies of involved tissue.68Ga FAPI-46 (FAPI)-PET/CT detects activated fibroblasts in vivo. In this exploratory pilot study, we tested the detection of fibroblast activation in vessel walls using FAPI-PET/CT in LVV with aortitis., Methods: Eight LVV patients with aortitis and eight age- and gender-matched controls were included. The distribution of FAPI uptake was evaluated in the aorta and large vessels. FAPI-uptake was compared with MRI inflammatory activity scores. Imaging results were compared with clinical parameters such as serum inflammatory markers, time of remission and medication., Results: Three aortitis patients were clinically active and five in remission. Irrespective of activity, FAPI uptake was significantly enhanced in aortitis compared with controls. Patients in remission had a mean duration of remission of 2.8 years (range 1-4 years), yet significant FAPI uptake in the vessel wall was found. In remitted aortitis, MRI inflammatory scores were close to be negative, while in 4/5 patients visually identifiable FAPI uptake was observed., Conclusions: This pilot feasibility study shows significant tracer uptake in the aortic walls in LVV. Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyse the diagnostic value of positron emission tomography (PET) in patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA) despite glucocorticoid (GC) therapy before PET acquisition., Methods: Consecutive patients with strongly suspected GCA according to 2022 EULAR/ACR criteria were included. The physician diagnosis of GCA after 6 months of follow-up was the gold standard. PET was performed at baseline and 6 months later. In patients with negative results at 60 min, delayed imaging was performed at 180 min., Results: Twenty-six patients were included with a median (IQR) age of 70.5 (57-88) years. Baseline PET was positive in all but one: 18 patients at 60 min and 7 patients after delayed imaging at 180 min. The median (IQR) GC dose at the time of baseline PET was 45 mg/d (26.2-45) of prednisone equivalent with a median exposure of 14 days (7-76.2). At 6 months of follow-up, PET was performed in 22 patients, with positive results in 16. Delayed imaging was performed in 6 patients due to negative PET at 60 min, with positive results in all cases, despite treatment with GC and/or biological therapy., Conclusions: In patients on GC therapy, delayed imaging protocols applying procedural recommendations for vascular quantification could improve diagnostic accuracy. Therefore, we suggest performing imaging only at 180 min in patients who have been on GCs for more than 3 days as well as in those with highly suspected GCA but negative findings in baseline PET at 60 min.

Abstract: A 76-year-old man undergoing hormone therapy for prostate cancer was referred for 68 Ga-PSMA-11-PET (PSMA PET) due to persistently detectable PSA level. No PSMA-positive tumor lesions were detected, so a delayed phase imaging was performed, which revealed focal PSMA uptake in the right seminal vesicle together with contrast accumulation on excretory phase contrast-enhanced CT. Background: Maternal overweight and obesity have been associated with an increased risk of atopic dermatitis (AD) in the offspring, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Vernix caseosa (VC) is a proteolipid material covering the fetus produced during skin development. However, whether maternal prepregnancy weight excess influences fetal skin development is unknown. Characterizing the VC of newborns from mothers with prepregnancy overweight and obesity might reveal AD-prone alterations during fetal skin development., Objective: We sought to explore AD biomarkers and staphylococcal loads in VC from the offspring of mothers who were overweight/obese (O/O) before pregnancy versus in those from offspring of normal weight mothers., Methods: The VC of newborns of 14 O/O and 12 normal weight mothers were collected immediately after birth. Biomarkers were determined by ELISA and staphylococcal species by quantitative PCR., Results: The VC from the O/O group showed decreased expression of skin barrier proteins (filaggrin and loricrin) and increased levels of proinflammatory biomarkers (IgA, thymic stromal lymphopoietin [TSLP], S100A8, IL-25, and IL-33). No differences in concentrations of antimicrobial peptides and enzymes were detected. The VC from the O/O group had a lower Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus hominis commensal bacterial load, whereas Staphylococcus aureus bacterial load was not significantly different between the 2 groups. Maternal body mass index was negatively correlated with VC filaggrin expression and S epidermidis load and was positively associated with TSLP concentration. One-year follow-up established that the offspring of O/O mothers had a higher incidence of AD that was specifically linked with decreased VC filaggrin expression and lower S epidermidis load., Conclusions: VC from neonates of mothers with prepregnancy overweight and obesity exhibit skin barrier molecular alterations and staphylococcal dysbiosis that suggest early mechanistic clues to this population's increased risk of AD., (Copyright © 2023 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. Microbial communities in dark fermentation continuous systems are affected by substrate type, concentration, and product accumulation (e.g., H 2 and CO 2 ). Metatranscriptomics and quantitative PCR (qPCR) were used to assess how high organic loading rates (OLR) from 60 to 160 g total carbohydrates (TC)/L-d modify the microbial community diversity and expression of key dark fermentative genes. Overall, the microbial communities were composed of H 2 -producing bacteria ( Clostridium butyricum ), homoacetogens ( Clostridium luticellarii ), and lactic acid bacteria ( Enteroccocus gallinarum and Leuconostoc mesenteroides ). Quantification through qPCR showed that the abundance of genes encoding the formyltetrahydrofolate synthetase ( fthfs , homoacetogens) and hydrogenase ( hydA , H 2 -producing bacteria) was strongly associated with the OLR and H 2 production performance. Similarly, increasing the OLR influenced the abundance of the gene transcripts responsible for H 2 production and homoacetogenesis. To evaluate the effect of decreasing the H 2 partial pressure, silicone oil was added to the reactor at an OLR of 138 and 160 g TC/L-d, increasing the production of H 2 , the copies of genes codifying for hydA and fthfs , and the genes transcripts related to H 2 production and homoacetogenesis. Moreover, the metatranscriptomic analysis also showed that lactate-type fermentation and dark fermentation simultaneously occurred without compromising the reactor performance for H 2 production.

For many students, learning physics is difficult because of its abstractness. To help students to learn physics, we have developed the Integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Projects Based Learning (STEM-PjBL) method based on principles from neuroscience. We believe that incorporating principles from educational neuroscience would help students learn better. This paper describes our experiments of implementing the integrated STEM-PjBL Module in physics, i.e., classical mechanics, to secondary school students in Malaysia and South Korea. The study consists of two groups of students: the experiment group, 77 in total, comprising those who have undergone the integrated STEM-PjBL, and the control group, again 77 in total, who experienced the traditional approach. The Colorado Learning Attitudes Science Survey (CLASS) was conducted for the two groups on students' beliefs about physics and learning physics before and after the implementation. The paired sample t -test from the pre-survey and post-survey shows that the integrated STEM-PjBL group has a more positive shift in belief about physics and learning physics than the traditional group. The results of the independent samples t -test for students' beliefs about physics and learning physics, compared with the post-survey between the experimental group and the traditional group for both Malaysian and Korean perspectives, show that the experimental group has a higher mean compared to the traditional group. This paper explains why the integrated STEM-PjBL has improved students' beliefs about physics and learning physics, from the neuroscience education perspective. Bovine herpesvirus (BoAHV) types 1 and 5 are closely-related neurotropic alpha-herpesviruses. BoAHV-1 generally causes respiratory and genital disease but can occasionally cause encephalitis. BoAHV-5 is the causative agent of non suppurative meningoencephalitis in calves. During neuroinvasion, both viruses reach the central and peripheral nervous system. While brain alterations are well-described, the changes that occur in the medulla have not been fully detailed. In this work, we integrated and analyzed the virological findings, the microscopic lesions and the changes that occur in the expression of genes related to the innate immunity, cell cycle and apoptosis in the cervical medulla of calves experimentally-infected with BoAHV-1 and BoAHV-5. Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common haematological malignancy and remains incurable despite therapeutic advances. 18 F-FDG (FDG) PET/CT is a relevant tool MM for staging and it is the reference imaging technique for treatment evaluation. However, it has limitations, and investigation of other PET tracers is required. Preliminary results with L-methyl-[ 11 C]- methionine (MET), suggest higher sensitivity than 18 F-FDG. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value of 1 FDG and MET in MM patients. We prospectively compared FDG and MET PET/CT for assessment of bone disease and extramedullary disease (EMD) in a series of 52 consecutive patients (8 smoldering MM, 18 newly diagnosed MM and 26 relapsed MM patients). Bone marrow (BM) uptake patterns and the detection of focal lesions (FLs) and EMD were compared. Furthermore, FDG PET parameters with known MM prognostic value were explored for both tracers, as well as total lesion MET uptake (TLMU). Median patient age was 61 years (range, 37-83 years), 54% were male, 13% of them were in stage ISS (International Staging System) III, and 31% had high-risk cytogenetics. FDG PET/CT did not detect active disease in 6 patients, while they were shown to be positive by MET PET/CT. Additionally, MET PET/CT identified a higher number of FLs than FDG in more than half of the patients (63%). For prognostication we focussed on the relapsed cohort, due to the low number of progressions in the two other cohorts. Upon using FDG PET/CT in relapsed patients, the presence of more than 3 FLs (HR 4.61, p = 0.056), more than 10 FLs (HR 5.65, p = 0.013), total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) p50 (HR 4.91, p = 0.049) or TMTV p75 (HR 5.32, p = 0.016) were associated with adverse prognosis. In MET PET/CT analysis, TMTV p50 (HR 4.71, p = 0.056), TMTV p75 (HR 6.27, p = 0.007), TLMU p50 (HR 8.8, p = 0.04) and TLMU p75 (HR 6.3, p = 0.007) adversely affected PFS. This study confirmed the diagnostic and prognostic value of FDG in MM. In addition, it highlights that MET has higher sensitivity than FDG PET/CT for detection of myeloma lesions, including FLs. Moreover, we show, for the first time, the prognostic value of TMTV and TLMU MET PET/CT in the imaging evaluation of MM patients.

Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common tumor in men in the West and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death. The use of PSMA radioligands has represented an important advance both in its diagnosis, through PET molecular imaging, and in its treatment in advanced stages of the disease. This article reviews the contribution of PET studies with PSMA radioligands in initial staging, in tumor detection in biochemical recurrence (elevation of PSA) after treatment with curative intent, and in the more advanced stages of the disease (castration resistant PC or CRPC). Type III interferons (IFNs) are components of the innate immunity, with IFN lambda- (λ)3 having the most potent bioactivity in humans. IFN-λ has a predominant role in epithelial cells. However, antiviral function in certain infections of the central nervous system has also been demonstrated. IFN-λ3 expression in neural tissues of cattle has not been investigated. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze whether an antiviral IFN-λ3 response is mounted after infection with bovine alphaherpesviruses (BoHV-1 and BoHV-5) in vitro, in neuronal-type cells, and in neural tissues from experimentally-infected calves. This study demonstrated that there is a strong IFN-λ3 response early after BoHV-1infection of undifferentiated neuroblastoma cells. During acute BoHV-1 and BoHV-5 infection of calves, low levels of IFN-λ3 expression were detected in the brain, which would favor virus spread within this tissue. Striking differences in the transcriptional levels of IFN-λ3 were observed in trigeminal ganglion, particularly in BoHV-1-acutely- and latently-infected calves. During reactivation, IFN-λ3 expression was down-regulated, which may be a requirement for virus replication and spread. Objetive: To evaluate the enterohepatic circulation of 75-Selenium turoselecolic acid ( 75 Se-SeHCAT) during the first 3 h and its correlation with the abdominal retention at the 7th day (AR 7 ), as contribution to the clinical study of biliar acid malabsorption (BAM)., Materials and Methods: 38 patients with chronic diarrhea were retrospectively studied. Acquisition protocol included static abdominal images at 1st, 2nd and 3rd hour and the 7th day after oral administration of the radiopharmaceutical. Images of 1-3 h determined 5 patterns of enterohepatic circulation that, due to their location, were characterized as: 1) gallbladder 2-3 h, 2) gallbladder 3 h, 3) gallbladder-abdomen 2-3 h, 4) abdomen, 5) upper left abdomen. The association of these patterns with the AR 7 (Fisher, STATA) were investigated. Patients were classified as Non BAM (AR 7  > 15%), mild-BAM (AR 7 15-10%), moderate-BAM (AR 7 10-5%) or severe-BAM (AR 7  < 5%)., Results: 19 patients had an AR 7 diagnostic of BAM (7 mild-BAM, 5 moderate-BAM, 7 severe-BAM). The pattern "gallbladder at 2-3 h" was statistically associated with Non BAM (p 0,008), while "gallbladder-abdomen at 2-3 h" was correlated with having BAM (p 0,029)., Conclusion: Variations detected at the abdominal level in images during the first 3 h were associated with changes in intestinal absorption and the incorporation of the radiopharmaceutical into the pool of bile acids, so visual interpretation of the images at 2nd and 3rd hour could be useful in the final assessment of the study., (Copyright © 2021 Sociedad Española de Medicina Nuclear e Imagen Molecular. Objective: To determine the accuracy of visual analysis and the retention index (RI) with dual-time point 18 F-FDG PET/CT for the characterization of indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPN) with low FDG uptake., Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 43 patients (28 men, 64 ± 11 years old, range 36-83 years) referred for IPN characterization with 18 F-FDG-PET/CT and maximum standard uptake value ≤ 2.5 at 60 minutes post-injection (SUV max1 ). Nodules were analyzed by size, visual score for FDG uptake on standard (OSEM 2,8) and high definition (HD) reconstructions, SUV max1 , SUV max at 180 minutes post-injection (SUV max2 ), and RI was calculated. The definitive diagnosis was based on histopathological confirmation (n = 28) or ≥ 2 years of follow-up., Results: Twenty-four (56%) nodules were malignant. RI ≥ 10% on standard reconstruction detected 18 nodules that would have been considered negative using the standard SUV max ≥ 2.5 criterion for malignancy. RI ≥ 10% had a sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV and accuracy of 75, 73.7, 78.3, 70, and 74.4%, respectively, while for FDG uptake > liver on HD these were 79.1, 63.2, 73.1, 70.6, and 72.1%, respectively. SUV max1 ≥ 2, SUV max2 > 2.5 and FDG uptake > liver on standard reconstruction had a PPV of 100%. FDG uptake > mediastinum on HD had a NPV of 100%., Conclusions: RI ≥ 10% was the most accurate criterion for malignancy, followed by FDG uptake > liver on HD reconstruction. On standard reconstruction, SUV max1 ≥2 was highly predictive of malignancy, as well as SUV max2 > 2.5 and FDG uptake > liver. Purpose: To investigate within phantoms the minimum CT dose allowed for accurate attenuation correction of PET data and to quantify the effective dose reduction when a CT for this purpose is incorporated in the clinical setting., Methods: The NEMA image quality phantom was scanned within a large parallelepiped container. Twenty-one different CT images were acquired to correct attenuation of PET raw data. Radiation dose and image quality were evaluated. Thirty-one patients with proven multiple myeloma who underwent a dual tracer PET/CT scan were retrospectively reviewed. 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT included a diagnostic whole-body low dose CT (WBLDCT: 120 kV-80mAs) and 11 C-Methionine PET/CT included a whole-body ultra-low dose CT (WBULDCT) for attenuation correction (100 kV-40mAs). Effective dose and image quality were analysed., Results: Only the two lowest radiation dose conditions (80 kV-20mAs and 80 kV-10mAs) produced artifacts in CT images that degraded corrected PET images. For all the other conditions (CTDI vol  ≥ 0.43 mGy), PET contrast recovery coefficients varied less than ± 1.2%. Patients received a median dose of 6.4 mSv from diagnostic CT and 2.1 mSv from the attenuation correction CT. Despite the worse image quality of this CT, 94.8% of bone lesions were identifiable., Conclusion: Phantom experiments showed that an ultra-low dose CT can be implemented in PET/CT procedures without any noticeable degradation in the attenuation corrected PET scan. Objectives: To analyze the feasibility of DWI-MRI and ADC to evaluate treatment response in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). To correlate the variations of ADC and SUVmax in 18 F-FDG PET-CT., Methods: 27 patients with MM that had a whole-body MRI and 18 F-FDG PET-CT performed at baseline and after treatment were retrospectively recruited between February 2018 and May 2020. Three target bone lesions were selected for each patient and their ADC, SUVmax and Deauville score were measured in every study. Correlation between ADC and SUVmax of the lesions was evaluated, as well as changes in mean ADC, SUVmax, and Deauville score between studies. Patients were classified as responder or non-responder according to the IMWG, MRI (MY-RADS) and PET-CT (IMPeTUs) response criteria. Agreement between the MRI and PET-CT criteria with the IMWG criteria was evaluated., Results: The correlation between the ADC and SUVmax of all the target lesions was strong, negative and significant (r=-0.603; p < 0.001). After treatment, mean ADC in lesions from responders was significantly higher than in non-responders (1585.51 × 10 -6  mm 2 /s vs 698.17 × 10 -6  mm 2 /s; p < 0.001). SUVmax of the same lesions was significantly lower in responders than in non-responders (2.05 vs 5.33; p < 0.001). There was a very strong or strong agreement of the IMWG response criteria with both MRI (κ = 0.852; p < 0.001) and PET (κ = 0.767; p < 0.001) criteria., Conclusion: DWI-MRI and ADC may be used to assess treatment response in MM patients, showing a good correlation with 18 F-FDG PET-CT and the IMWG response criteria., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier B.V. Bovine herpesvirus (BoHV) types 1 and 5 are two closely related alpha-herpesviruses of cattle with neuroinvasive potential. BoHV-5 causes non-suppurative meningoencephalitis in calve whereas encephalitis caused by BoHV-1 has been occasionally reported. As an initial step to understand the biology of both BoHV types in neural cells, undifferentiated SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells were infected with BoHV-1 strains Cooper and Los Angeles (LA), BoHV-5 strain 97/613 and A663, a BoHV-5/BoHV-1 natural recombinant. Cytopathic effect (CPE) in these cells was evident earlier for BoHV-5 strain 97/613 and CPE progression was slower for BoHV-1, particularly for Cooper strain. Virus antigen was detected as early as 8 h post-infection (hpi) for all strains, with the exception of BoHV-1 Cooper for which antigen expression was detectable by 24 hpi. All strains released detectable infectious virus in the extracellular medium by 8 hpi, confirming that undifferentiated SH-SY5Y cells are fully permissive to BoHV infection. Significantly different extracellular virus titers among the different strains were detected by 24 hpi, with BoHV-5 97/613 reaching the maximal virus production. The lowest extracellular titer was recorded for BoHV-1 Cooper at all the evaluated time-points. BoHV-1 Cooper, BoHV-1 LA and BoHV-5 97/613 had a steady increase in intracellular virus production. The evaluation of lysis plaques formation revealed that BoHV-5 A663 produced the largest plaques followed by BoHV-5 97/613. Both BoHV-1 strains produced smaller plaques when compared with BoHV-5. Despite a slower replicative cycle, strain A663 is more efficient in cell to cell dissemination. Thus, it is evident that BoHV-5 strains have growth advantages in undifferentiated neural cells compared with BoHV-1. The significant amounts of agriculture residues such as bean straw (BS) in rural areas, advises its valorisation for energy recovery. The feasibility of using BS for biogas production through anaerobic digestion was assessed. Prior to this, a fungal pre-treatment to hydrolyse BS with Pleutorus ostreatu s was studied at 30°C and 100 rpm in orbital incubators with 1, 10 and 30 mg fungus/g straw for 14, 21 and 28 days. Then, anaerobic digestion experiments were performed in batch with cow manure (CM) as co-substrate and pre-treated BS at ratios (g/g total solids) of 1/2, 1/3, 1/5 and 0/1. Maximum lignin (18%) and hemicellulose (44%) degradation occurred at 30 mg fungus/g straw and 28 days, along with the highest total methane yield (38 mL CH 4 /g VS loaded). The total amount of methane decreased when increasing CM in the experiments (701.4-191.5 mL CH 4 ), suggesting inhibition owed to a component of CM. Self-sustained biogas production of BS occurred due to the presence of bacteria (i.e. Bacilli and Bacteroidia ) and archea (i.e. Methanobacteria and Methanomicrobia ). However, the usage of a full-active inoculum should be studied for higher biogas production rates.

Bovine herpesvirus types 1 (BoHV-1) and 5 (BoHV-5) are two closely related alphaherpesviruses. BoHV-1 causes several syndromes in cattle, including respiratory disease and sporadic cases of encephalitis, whereas BoHV-5 is responsible for meningoencephalitis in calves. Although both viruses are neurotropic, they differ in their neuropathogenic potential. This review summarizes the findings on the specific mechanisms and pathways known to modulate the pathogenesis of BoHV-1 and BoHV-5, particularly in relation to respiratory and neurological syndromes, which characterize BoHV-1 and BoHV-5 infections, respectively.

Bovine alphaherpesvirus types 1 (BoHV-1) and 5 (BoHV-5) are closely related alphaherpesviruses. BoHV-5 causes non-suppurative meningoencephalitis in calves. BoHV-1 is associated with several syndromes and, occasionally, can cause encephalitis. Although both viruses are neurotropic and they share similar biological properties, it is unknown why these alphaherpesviruses differ in their ability to cause neurological disease. Neural tissue samples were collected from BoHV-1- and BoHV-5-intranasally inoculated calves during acute infection, latency and reactivation and the levels of cyclins mRNA expression were analyzed by qRT-PCR. Striking differences in the levels of cyclins mRNA were particularly detected in trigeminal ganglion (TG). The expression levels of cyclins in TG during BoHV-5 latency suggest that these viruses utilize different strategies to persist in the host. It is apparent that a relationship between virus loads and cyclin mRNA levels can be established only during acute infection and other factors might be involved in the regulation of cell cycle components during BoHV latency and reactivation. Bovine alphaherpesviruses neuropathogenicity might be influenced by the differential control of cell cycle components by these herpesviruses. Continuous hydrogen (H 2 ) production from individual (Stonezyme, IH) and binary (Celluclast-Viscozyme, BH) enzymatic hydrolysates of agave bagasse was evaluated in continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTR) and trickling bed reactors (TBR). The volumetric H 2 production rates (VHPR) in CSTR were 13 and 2.25 L H 2 /L-d with BH and IH, respectively. Meanwhile, VHPR of 5.76 and 2.0 L H 2 /L-d were obtained in the TBR configuration using BH and IH, respectively. Differences on VHPR between reactors could be explained by substrate availability, which is intrinsic to the growth mode of each reactor configuration; while differences of VHPR between hydrolysates were possibly related to the composition of enzymatic hydrolysates. Furthermore, homoacetogenesis was strongly influenced by H 2 and substrate transfer conditions. Considering VHPR, H 2 yields, and costs of hydrolysis, hydrogen production from binary hydrolysates of agave bagasse was identified as the most promising alternative evaluated with scale-up potential for the production of energy biofuels., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. These are the observation found in ten children with fascioliasis diagnosis at the Servicio de Parasitología, of the Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, from 1979 to 1990; six children in scholar age; one prescholar and three teenagers; only one was female. Four of them lined at the State of Mexico; three at Morelos; one at Puebla, another one at Oaxaca and the other one at Mexico City. In nine of the watercress eaten was confirmed. The most important clinic manifestations were: fever, weight lose, paleness, hepatomegaly, hiporexia, right hypochondrium pain and diarrhoea. Diagnosis was established by: counterimmunoelectrophoresis, indirect haemagglutination and there were found eggs by simple sedimentation, Ritchie's method and microscopic study of duodenal sample. Leukocytes counts were between 11,000 and 34,000/mm3. Eosinophils were to 77% with 24,430 totals. Only in three of them haemoglobin was found under 9 g/dL. All of them had hypergammaglobulinemia. In nine patients the alkaline phosphatase was found in higher levels; only in three of them, transaminase, oxalacetic and glutamic piruvic were found in higher levels. The most effective drug in the treatment was dehidroemetine.

A comparative study between 8 cases of trichinosis and 16 of typhoid fever is presented in this paper; all of them were attended in the INP during the period from 1970 to 1990. The diagnosis was established under epidemiologic, clinic and laboratory bases. The range of age of these patients was from 10 to 14 years, from low socioeconomic status; half of the cases had history of in take of infested pork meat. The most characteristic symptoms were: fever, myalgia and limitation of muscular movements. Leukocytosis in addition to eosinophilia were found in 7 cases. Correlation with indirect hemagglutination, CIEF positive test for Trichinella spiralis and biopsy of muscle was done. Thiabendozole therapy was utilized for treatment with satisfactory evolution, except in one case that developed progressive and fatal neurologic damage.
