Abbott et al., We present angular diameter measurements obtained by measuring the position of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) in an optimized sample of galaxies from the first three years of Dark Energy Survey data (DES Y3). The sample consists of 7 million galaxies distributed over a footprint of 4100 deg2 with 0.60.75. Item does not contain fulltext In this chapter, panegyrical oratory as attested in the panegyrici latini XII (with special reference to XII[9] and IV[10]), is placed in the intellectual atmosphere of the early fourth century, especially within the context of Neoplatonism. The period was characterized by a long literary tradition to look back upon (Greek as well as Latin), a thriving study and re-interpretations of Plato, a host of religious worldviews, and budding Christianity. In this chapter, it is investigated in how far the orators of the Gaulish panegyrical tradition stood in contact with Neoplatonic thought, and how this most influential philosophical current can be read in the oratorical texts. Many contingencies appear to be detected between the two spheres, such as exemplarized by the position of the monarchic ruler, theological excurses and imperial virtues.

Ureilite meteorites contain iron silicide minerals including suessite (Fe,Ni)3Si, hapkeite (Fe2Si) and xifengite (Fe5Si3). Despite occurring mostly in brecciated varieties presumed to be derived from the regolith of the ureilite parent asteroid, suessite has also been confirmed in one lithology of a dimict ureilite (NWA 1241). In contrast, Si-bearing Fe-metals occur in both brecciated and unbrecciated ureilites, implying that they were formed throughout the ureilite parent asteroid. We examined major, minor and trace element data of Fe-metals in seven brecciated ureilites (DaG 319, DaG 999, DaG 1000, DaG 1023, DaG 1047, EET 83309, and EET 87720) in addition to the dimict ureilite NWA 1241.\ud \ud In this study we show that the silicides and Si-bearing metals in ureilites have similar siderophile trace element patterns; therefore, the precursors to the silicides were indigenous to the ureilite parent body. Si-free kamacite grains in brecciated ureilites show flatter, more chondritic siderophile element patterns. They may also be derived from the interior of the ureilite parent body, but some may be of exogenous origin (impactor debris), as are rare taenite grains.\ud \ud On Earth, iron silicides are often formed under high-temperature and strongly reducing conditions (e.g. blast furnaces, lightning strikes). On the Moon, hapkeite (Fe2Si) and other silicides have been found in the regolith where they were formed by impact-induced space weathering. In the Stardust aerogel, iron silicides derived from comet Wild2 were also formed by an impact-related reduction process. Silicides in ureilite regolith breccias may have formed by similar processes but ureilites additionally contain abundant elemental carbon which probably acted as a reducing agent, thus larger and more abundant silicide grains were formed than in the lunar regolith or cometary material. The origin of suessite in NWA 1241 may be analogous to that of reduced lithologies in the terrestrial mantle, although a regolith origin may also be possible since this sample is shown here to be a dimict breccia.

Item does not contain fulltext An analysis of the depiction of Constantine's son Crispus in diverse contemporary sources of panegyrical nature (panegyrical speeches, inscriptions, poems, coins and sculpture), from which is concluded that Crispus is mainly used as an indirect way to praise the highest emperor, his father Constantine. Crispus, who was affected by a damnatio memoriae after his execution in 326 BC, hardly does have any panegyrical record on his own account.

Item does not contain fulltext Imagining Emperors in the Later Roman Empire offers new analysis of the textual depictions of a series of emperors in the fourth century within overlapping historical, religious, and literary contexts. Drawing on the recent Representational Turn in the study of imperial power, these essays examine how literary authors working in various genres, both Latin and Greek, and of differing religious affiliations construct and manipulate the depiction of a series of emperors from the late third to the late fourth centuries CE. In a move away from traditional source criticism, this volume opens up new methodological approaches to chart intellectual and literary history during a critical century for the ancient Mediterranean world. 384 p.
