COVID-19 restrictions prompted change to clinical placements for students, including a move to a remote supervision model where students, clinical educators, and patients were geographically remote from each other but connected via videoconferencing technology. A total of seven students and 11 clinical educators from occupational therapy and speech pathology participated in focus groups, reflecting on their experiences and perceptions of the rapid transition to remote supervision. Qualitative data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. No participants had experience with remote supervision prior to COVID-19. Three key themes were generated from the data: (a) key considerations, processes, and suggestions for remote supervision, (b) impact of remote supervision on relationship development, and (c) development of student professional competencies within the model. This study provides insights and practical considerations for implementing remote supervision and confirms this model can effectively meet students' supervision needs and support the development of professional competencies.

Individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual or related identities (LGBTQIA+) experience barriers when accessing healthcare, including physiotherapy. Little is known about physiotherapy students' attitudes and beliefs about caring for LGBTQIA+ individuals and what education is provided. This study aims to identify the attitudes, knowledge and practice of physiotherapy students when caring for LGBTQIA+ patients in the UK. A cross-sectional online survey of physiotherapy students. Independent sample t-tests and an analysis of variance were carried out to analyse between-group differences in heteronormativity scores (modified Heteronormative Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (HABS)) and respondents' attitudes and beliefs about caring for LGBTQIA+ individuals. 107 eligible participants completed the questionnaire with 23% identifying as LGBTQIA + and 41% indicating close personal exposure to LGBTQIA+ people. Clinical placement experience and experience working with LGBTQIA+ people in other professional roles was reported by 16%, 27% respectively. Educational exposure (with a mean (standard deviation (SD)) of 2.7 (2.9) h) to the LGBTQIA + community was reported by 17% of participants. The overall mean (SD) modified-HABS score was 2.65 (1.20). Participants with greater personal and informal educational exposure to LGBTQIA+ topics demonstrated less heteronormative attitudes and beliefs, greater awareness and more inclusive attitudes towards caring for LGBTQIA+ individuals compared to those without. Physiotherapy students have generally positive attitudes towards providing care for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Education is inconsistent and physiotherapy students lack awareness of LGBTQIA+ specific healthcare needs. Background and purpose: During the COVID‐19 pandemic, hospital physiotherapy departments transitioned to telerehabilitation to ensure continuity of care for patients. The purpose of this study is to determine the key elements to successful, rapid uptake of telerehabilitation in medium‐sized public hospital physiotherapy departments in response to COVID‐19. Methods: This study used a qualitative design. Physiotherapists who delivered telerehabilitation consultations during the COVID‐19 restriction period in two Brisbane public hospital physiotherapy departments were eligible to participate in semi‐structured interviews. Data were analysed thematically. Results: Twenty‐five physiotherapists (22–60 years of age; 68% female) with 1–40 years of clinical experience provided insights into their perceptions of the rapid uptake of telerehabilitation in the provision of clinical care. Physiotherapists worked across musculoskeletal outpatient (72%), inpatient, community, paediatrics and pelvic health departments. Qualitative analyses in relation to the physiotherapist perceptions of the key elements of rapid transition to telerehabilitation, revealed four key themes underpinning success: (1) 'it requires a whole team approach', (2) 'technology issues will be encountered and can be overcome', (3) 'optimise the situation while understanding the differences' and (4) 'modifying your approach doesn't imply inferior quality of care'. Conclusion: Rapid implementation of telerehabilitation in a hospital setting is possible, and is facilitated by organisational, administrative and management support, willingness of physiotherapists to adopt, shared learning experience, quality software and connection, availability of equipment and space and optimised systems and processes. Key factors facilitating successful telerehabilitation consultations include effective communication, demonstration, involving a third party to help, and clients who are well prepared and willing to engage. OBJECTIVE: To identify and describe the psychological and psychosocial constructs and outcome measures used in tendinopathy research. tDESIGN: Scoping review. tLITERATURE SEARCH: We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro, CINAHL, and APA PsychNet databases on July 10, 2021, for all published studies of tendinopathy populations measuring psychological and psychosocial factors. tSTUDY SELECTION: Studies using a clinical diagnosis of tendinopathy or synonyms (eg, jumper's knee or subacromial impingement) with or without imaging confirmation. tDATA SYNTHESIS: We described the volume, nature, distribution, and characteristics of psychological and psychosocial outcomes reported in the tendinopathy field. tRESULTS: Twenty-nine constructs were identified, including 16 psychological and 13 psychosocial constructs. The most frequently-reported constructs were workrelated outcomes (32%), quality of life (31%), depression (30%), anxiety (18%), and fear (14%). Outcome measures consisted of validated and nonvalidated questionnaires and 1-item custom questions (including demographics). The number of different outcome measures used to assess an individual construct ranged between 1 (emotional distress) and 11 (quality of life) per construct. tCONCLUSION: There was a large variability in constructs and outcome measures reported in tendinopathy research, which limits conclusions about the relationship between psychological and psychosocial constructs, outcome measures, and tendinopathies. Scope: In March 2020, COVID-19 restrictions prompted services delivered by student-led clinics in the university sector to transition to telehealth. This provided a unique opportunity to explore the challenges and opportunities faced by clinical educators when supervising students to deliver telehealth. Methodology: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with allied health clinical educators who supervised students on clinical placement who were required to provide services via telehealth. Clinical educators across the disciplines of audiology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech pathology were asked to reflect on their experiences and perceptions of the rapid transition to a telehealth model for student clinical placements. A content analysis approach was used to analyse qualitative data. Conclusions: From the perspective of clinical educators, student-led telehealth services can effectively meet client needs while achieving student learning outcomes. This study highlights many opportunities for student learning via telehealth in the clinical education environment and the role of the clinical educator in the learning experience. Objective: The objective was to explore experiences with and identify barriers and facilitators of utilizing physical therapy for people who identify as transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary (TGNB)., Methods: A qualitative descriptive design was employed using semistructured interviews conducted in New Zealand. Eligible participants were individuals who were 12 years old or older, who self-identified as TGNB, and who had accessed physical therapy at a community-based clinic that also provides a gender-affirming service. Participants were recruited via email invitation to the clinic database. Interview data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Demographics are reported descriptively., Results: Seventeen individuals (15-64 years old and identifying as 11 different genders) participated. All participants reported physical therapist experiences relating to 1 or more of the following 4 themes: challenging cisnormativity at policy, environmental, clinic, and therapist levels; safety and trust throughout the clinical experience, including clinic credibility for being a safe provider, clinic displays of TGNB inclusivity, implementation of safe clinic processes, and respectful therapist interactions; inclusive experiences in a clinic that provided affordable care and took active steps to understand and affirm TGNB identities and with physical therapists who had a high level of knowledge of TGNB-specific health issues and took a biopsychosocial approach to care; and sensitivity to body discomfort or dysphoria triggers. Barriers to and facilitators of care were identified at policy, environmental, clinic, and therapist levels., Conclusion: People who identify as TGNB face challenges to accessing safe and culturally sensitive physical therapy. However, there are achievable areas for improvement at policy, environmental, clinic, and physical therapist levels to gain trust and engagement in care for the TGNB community., Impact: This study provides a detailed exploration of TGNB physical therapist experiences and identifies specific areas of improvement for TGNB physical therapy care to provide clinicians and physical therapy clinics insights into the provision of safe and culturally sensitive physical therapy., (© The Author(s) 2024.
