- Abstract
The interface between ceramic electrolytes and liquid Na, S and NaSxin Na-S batteries can make substantial contribution to the resistance and are potential sources of high electrical stress and current density. Using Rutherford backscattering we have examined the atomic composition at surfaces of selected experimental beta and beta″ ceramics, and using nuclear reaction analysis have obtained depth concentration profiles of Na. H and Li have also been detected. the composition in the surface is often very different than in the interior, and ion scattering potentially can provide insights into the atomistic mechanisms contributing to interfacial resistance.
