The radial basis network is used as the finline discontinuities electromagnetic artifical neural network(EM‐ANN) models. EM software analysis is employed to characterize finline discontinuities. EM‐ANN models are then trained using physical parameters and frequency as inputs and equivalent electric circuit element parameters of finline discontinuities as outputs. Once trained , the EM‐ANN models can simulate equivalent electric circuit element parameters of finline step, notch and strip very fast and efficiently.

The picosecond photoconductive switches are developed and used to detect the pulse laser waveform. By using the photoconductive switches, an novel lab model of ultra-wide band(UWB) radar is also developed. The experimental results are given to show the performances of the switches and the UWB radar.

In this article a generalized study of electromagnetic (EM) missiles has been presented. An EM missile source condition has been derived from an arbitrary plane current distribution, and our analysis shows that an arbitrary plane current distribution of finite size has the ability to launch an EM missile, i.e., to realize slow decrease of energy, on any axis perpendicular to the source plane so long as the axis has an intersection point with the source region. This important result reveals that the EM missiles are very much like light beams which do not diverge. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Recently the backscattering of an electromagnetic (EM) missile with an energy decreasing as r−e by a perfectly conducting plate has been studied and the analysis shows that the energy backscattered varies as r−e with the same exponent as the incident EM missile. Scattering of an EM missile by other shapes is left as an open question. In this paper we study the backscattering of an EM missile with energy decreasing as r−e by a perfectly conducting elliptical cylinder. It has been shown that the rate of the energy decay for the backscattered field far from the cylinder is proportional to r−(1+e), which is faster than r−e for plate scattering but still slower than the ordinary energy decay r−2 for a two‐dimensional backscattered field.

The propagation properties of a plasma waveguide in a lossy material under a finite magnetic field are analyzed,particularly for the variations of their propagation constants with plasma parameters,surrounding material and external magnetic field.The analysis show that the propagation properties of such a magnetized plasma-filled waveguide are easy to be controlled compared with those of plasma waveguide to which no external magnetic field or an infinite external magnetic field is applied.

In this paper, we present a general study on backscattering of electromagnetic (EM) missile by a perfectly conducting cylinder of arbitrary cross section. We find that, when an EM missile with energy decreasing as r-ε(0 -εR/(2r + R), where R is the radii of curvature at tie specular point of the target.
