In time-domain astronomy, a substantial number of transients will be discovered by multi-wavelength and multi-messenger observatories, posing a great challenge for follow-up capabilities. We have thus proposed an intelligent X-ray constellation, the Chasing All Transients Constellation Hunters (CATCH) space mission. Consisting of 126 micro-satellites in three types, CATCH will have the capability to perform follow-up observations for a large number of different types of transients simultaneously. Each satellite in the constellation will carry lightweight X-ray optics and use a deployable mast to increase the focal length. The combination of different optics and detector systems enables different types of satellites to have multiform observation capabilities, including timing, spectroscopy, imaging, and polarization. Controlled by the intelligent system, different satellites can cooperate to perform uninterrupted monitoring, all-sky follow-up observations, and scanning observations with a flexible field of view (FOV) and multi-dimensional observations. Therefore, CATCH will be a powerful mission to study the dynamic universe. MAXI J1535-571 is a black-hole X-ray binary that in 2017 exhibited a very bright outburst which reached a peak flux of up to 5 Crab in the 2-20 keV band. Given the high flux, several X-ray space observatories obtained unprecedented high signal-to-noise data of key parts of the outburst. In our previous paper we studied the corona of MAXI J1535-571 in the hard-intermediate state (HIMS) with Insight-HXMT. In this paper we focus on the study of the corona in the soft-intermediate state (SIMS) through the spectral-timing analysis of 26 NICER detections of the type-B quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs). From simultaneous fits of the energy, rms and lag spectra of these QPOs with our time-dependent Comptonization model, we find that in the SIMS the corona size is ~ 6500 km and vertically extended. We detect a narrow iron line in the energy spectra, which we interpret to be due to the illumination of the outer part of the accretion disk by this large corona. We follow the evolution of the corona and the radio jet during the HIMS-SIMS transition, and find that the jet flux peaks after the time when the corona extends to its maximum vertical size. The jet flux starts to decay after the corona contracts vertically towards the black hole. This behavior points to a connection between the X-ray corona and the radio jet similar to that seen in other sources., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We revisit various sets of published results from X-ray and optical studies of the Galactic black hole (BH) candidate MAXI J0637-430, which went into outburst in 2019. Combining the previously reported values of peak outburst luminosity, best-fitting radii of inner and outer accretion disk, viewing angle, exponential decay timescale and peak-to-peak separation of the He II 4686 disk emission line, we improve the constraints on the system parameters. We estimate a heliocentric distance d = (8.7 +/- 2.3) kpc, a projected Galactocentric distance R = (13.2 +/- 1.8) kpc and a height |z| = (3.1 +/- 0.8) kpc from the Galactic plane. It is the currently known Milky Way BH candidate located farthest from the Galactic Centre. We infer a BH mass M_1 = (5.1 +/- 1.6) M_{sun}, a spin parameter a* ~2 kpc). Type-C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in black hole X-ray transients can appear when the source is in the low-hard and hard-intermediate states. The spectral-timing evolution of the type-C QPO in MAXI J1535-571 has been recently studied with Insight-HXMT. Here we fit simultaneously the time-averaged energy spectrum, using a relativistic reflection model, and the fractional rms and phase-lag spectra of the type-C QPOs, using a recently developed time-dependent Comptonization model when the source was in the intermediate state. We show, for the first time, that the time-dependent Comptonization model can successfully explain the X-ray data up to 100 keV. We find that in the hard-intermediate state the frequency of the type-C QPO decreases from 2.6 Hz to 2.1 Hz, then increases to 3.3 Hz, and finally increases to ~ 9 Hz. Simultaneously with this, the evolution of corona size and the feedback fraction (the fraction of photons up-scattered in the corona that return to the disc) indicates the change of the morphology of the corona. Comparing with contemporaneous radio observations, this evolution suggests a possible connection between the corona and the jet when the system is in the hard-intermediate state and about to transit into the soft-intermediate state., 11 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We studied the millihertz quasi-periodic oscillation (mHz QPO) in the 2020 outburst of the Be/X-ray binary 1A 0535+262 using Insight-HXMT data over a broad energy band. The mHz QPO is detected in the 27-120 keV energy band. The QPO centroid frequency is correlated with the source flux, and evolves in the 35-95 mHz range during the outburst. The QPO is most significant in the 50-65 keV band, with a significance of ~ 8 sigma, but is hardly detectable (120 keV) energy bands. Notably, the detection of mHz QPO above 80 keV is the highest energy at which mHz QPOs have been detected so far. The fractional rms of the mHz QPO first increases and then decreases with energy, reaching the maximum amplitude at 50-65 keV. In addition, at the peak of the outburst, the mHz QPO shows a double-peak structure, with the difference between the two peaks being constant at ~0.02 Hz, twice the spin frequency of the neutron star in this system. We discuss different scenarios explaining the generation of the mHz QPO, including the beat frequency model, the Keplerian frequency model, the model of two jets in opposite directions, and the precession of the neutron star, but find that none of them can explain the origin of the QPO well. We conclude that the variability of non-thermal radiation may account for the mHz QPO, but further theoretical studies are needed to reveal the physical mechanism., 13 pages, 7 figures. Here we report the spectral-timing results of the black hole X-ray binary 4U 1630–47 during its 2021 outburst using observations from the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT). Type C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in ∼1.6–4.2 Hz and quasi-regular modulation (QRM) near 60 mHz are detected during the outburst. The mHz QRM has a fractional rms of ∼10%–16% in the 8–35 keV energy band with a Q factor (frequency/width) of ∼2–4. Benefiting from the broad energy band of Insight-HXMT, we study the energy dependence of the ∼60 mHz QRM in 1–100 keV for the first time. We find that the fractional rms of the mHz QRM increases with photon energy, while the time lags of the mHz QRM are soft and decrease with photon energy. Fast recurrence of the mHz QRM, in a timescale of less than 1 hr, has been observed during the outburst. During this period, the corresponding energy spectra moderately change when the source transitions from the QRM state to the non-QRM state. The QRM phenomenon also shows a dependence with the accretion rate. We suggest that the QRM could be caused by an unknown accretion instability aroused from the corona.

Based on first-principles calculations, the electronic properties of Cadmium Sulfide nanoribbons (CdSNRs) have been studied with both zigzag (Z-CdSNRs) and armchair shaped edges (A-CdSNRs). For Z-CdSNRs, the structures with both edges decorated by H or F atoms show half-metallic or semiconducting properties, respectively. Only S-dominated edge decorated by H/F atoms, Z-CdSNRs show metallic properties. Only Cd-dominated edge is hydrogenated, Z-CdSNRs can be observed from a metallic to half metallic transition. But instead of fluorinated, the structures show the metallic properties. However, either edge or both edges are hydrogenated or fluorinated, A-CdSNRs exhibit semiconducting properties, and their band gap decreases monotonically with increasing ribbons width (n). When a stress is applied on the half-hydrogenated A-CdSNRs, their band gap displays a steady decrease trend. Moreover, A-CdSNRs are more stable than Z-CdSNRs, while the hydrogenated systems are more stable than fluorinated systems. The results show that different structures of CdSNRs decorated with the different edges can play different nature as semiconducting – half-metallic – metallic properties. The research has important theoretical significance for the electronic design and assembly of CdSNRs structures, and provides a new perspective for the potential application of CdSNRs in nanoelectronics.

By the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method, the electronic structures and magnetic properties of a C-doped honeycomb CdS monolayer (HC-CdS) have been investigated. We find that a C-doped HC-CdS shows a half-metallic character and a 100% spin polarization at the Fermi level with a total magnetic moment of 2.0 μB per unit cell. When two carbon atoms substitute for S atoms in HC-CdS, the interaction between two carbon atoms is antiferromagnetic, but it can turn into ferromagnetic coupling provided that an electron is doped into HC-CdS. The Curie temperature of 354 K is predicted through Monte Carlo simulation. The ferromagnetism of two C-doped HC-CdS monolayer can be explained by the electron-mediated p–p interaction and p–d exchange hybridization. These results provide a new perspective for the potential application of C-doped HC-CdS in spintronics.
