In the present paper, an algorithm for the numerical solution of the external Dirichlet generalized harmonic problem for a sphere by the method of probabilistic solution (MPS) is given, where generalized indicates that a boundary function has a finite number of first kind discontinuity curves. The algorithm consists of the following main stages: (1) the transition from an infinite domain to a finite domain by an inversion; (2) the consideration of a new Dirichlet generalized harmonic problem on the basis of Kelvin theorem for the obtained finite domain; (3) the numerical solution of the new problem for the finite domain by the MPS, which in turn is based on a computer simulation of the Weiner process; (4) finding the probabilistic solution of the posed generalized problem at any fixed points of the infinite domain by the solution of the new problem. For illustration, numerical examples are considered and results are presented.

Mathematics - Analysis of PDEs - Abstract
A nonlocal contact problem for two-dimensional linear elliptic equations is stated and investigated. The method of separation of variables is used to find the solution of a stated problem in case of Poisson's equation. Then the more general problem with nonlocal multipoint contact conditions for elliptic equation with variable coefficients is considered and the iterative method to solve the problem numerically is constructed and investigated. The uniqueness and existence of the regular solution is proved. The iterative method allows to reduce the solution of a nonlocal contact problem to the solution of a sequence of classical boundary value problems.

- Abstract
In cattle, mating to intact, but not vasectomised, bulls has been shown to modify the endometrial transcriptome, suggesting an important role of sperm in the modulation of the uterine environment in this species. However, it is not clear whether these changes are driven by intrinsic sperm factors, or by factors of accessory gland (AG) origin that bind to sperm at ejaculation. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine whether ejaculated sperm, which are suspended in the secretions of the AGs, elicit a different endometrial transcriptomic response than epididymal sperm, which have never been exposed to AG factors. To this end, bovine endometrial explants collected from heifers in oestrus were (co-)incubated for 6 h alone (control), or with epididymal sperm or ejaculated sperm, following which transcriptomic changes in the endometrium were evaluated. Epididymal sperm elicited a more dramatic endometrial response than ejaculated sperm, in terms of the number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Indeed, RNA-sequencing data analysis revealed 1912 DEGs in endometrial explants exposed to epididymal sperm compared with control explants, whereas 115 DEGs were detected between endometrial explants exposed to ejaculated sperm in comparison to control explants. The top pathways associated with genes upregulated by epididymal sperm included T cell regulation and TNF, NF-KB and IL17 signalling. Interestingly, ejaculated sperm induced downregulation of genes associated with T cell immunity and Th17 differentiation, and upregulation of genes involved in NF-KB signalling, in comparison to epididymal sperm. These data indicate that factors of AG origin modulate the interaction between sperm and the endometrium in cattle.

- Abstract
The objective was to compare pregnancy per service event (P/S) in lactating dairy cows following timed artificial insemination (AI) or timed embryo transfer (ET) using either fresh or frozen in vitro-produced embryos. Oocytes were collected once per week for up to 9 wk using transvaginal ovum pick-up from elite dairy donors (ET-DAIRY; n = 40; Holstein-Friesian and Jersey) and elite beef donors (ET-ELITE-BEEF; n = 21; Angus). Both ET-DAIRY and ET-ELITE-BEEF donors consisted of heifers and cows. In addition, oocytes were collected from the ovaries of beef heifers of known pedigree following slaughter at a commercial abattoir (ET-COMM-BEEF; n = 119). Following in vitro maturation and fertilization, presumptive zygotes were cultured in vitro to the blastocyst stage. Grade 1 blastocysts were either transferred fresh or frozen for on-farm thawing and direct transfer. A total of 1,106 recipient cows (all lactating, predominantly Holstein-Friesian) located on 16 herdlets were blocked based on parity, calving date, and Economic Breeding Index, and randomly assigned to receive AI (n = 243) or ET (n = 863) after estrous synchronization with a 10-d Progesterone-synch protocol. Cows assigned to ET were further randomized to receive fresh (n = 187) or frozen (n = 178) ET-ELITE-BEEF embryos, fresh (n = 169) or frozen (n = 162) ET-DAIRY embryos, or fresh (n = 80) or frozen (n = 87) ET-COMM-BEEF embryos. Pregnancy was diagnosed using transrectal ultrasound on d 32 to 35 after synchronized ovulation and confirmed on d 62 to 65, at which time fetal sex was determined. Pregnancy per service event at d 32 was not different between AI (48.8%) and ET (48.9%) and did not differ between dairy and beef embryos (50.3% vs. 48.1%, respectively). However, P/S was less on d 32 following transfer of frozen embryos (41.6%) compared with fresh embryos (56.1%). Pregnancy loss between d 32 and 62 was greater for ET (15.1%) compared with AI (4.7%), with greater losses observed for frozen beef (18.5%)

- Abstract
Increasing evidence points to an active role of oviductal extracellular vesicles (oEVs) in the early embryo-maternal dialogue. However, it remains unclear whether oEVs contribute to the recognition of the presence of embryos and their quality in the oviduct. Hence, we examined whether the molecular cargo of oEVs secreted by bovine oviduct epithelial cells (BOEC) differs depending on the presence of good (≥ 8 cells, G) or poor (< 8 cells, P) quality embryos. In addition, differences in RNA profiles between G and P embryos were analyzed in attempt to distinguish oEVs and embryonic EVs cargos.

The class of generalized Lie-type color algebras contains the ones of generalized Lie-type algebras, of $n$-Lie algebras and superalgebras, commutative Leibniz $n$-ary algebras and superalgebras, among others. We focus on the class of generalized Lie-type color algebras $\frak L$ admitting a quasi-multiplicative basis, with restrictions neither on the dimensions nor on the base field $\mathbb F$ and study its structure. If we write $\frak L = \mathbb V \oplus \mathbb W$ with $\mathbb V$ and $0 \neq \mathbb W$ linear subspaces, we say that a basis of homogeneous elements $\mathfrak{B} = \{e_i\}_{i \in I}$ of $\mathbb W$ is quasi-multiplicative if given $0 < k < n,$ for $i_1,\dots,i_k \in I$ and $\sigma \in \mathbb S_n$ satisfies $\langle e_{i_1}, \dots, e_{i_k}, \mathbb V, \dots, \mathbb V \rangle_{\sigma} \subset \mathbb{F}e_{j_{\sigma}}$ for some $j_{\sigma} \in I;$ the product of elements of the basis $\langle e_{i_1}, \dots, e_{i_n} \rangle$ belongs to $\mathbb{F}e_j$ for some $j \in I$ or to $\mathbb V$, and a similar condition is verified for the product $\langle \mathbb V, \dots,\mathbb V \rangle$. We state that if $\frak L$ admits a quasi-multiplicative basis then it decomposes as $\mathfrak{L} ={\mathcal U} \oplus (\sum\limits {\frak J}_{k})$ with any ${\frak J}_k$ a well described color gLt-ideal of $\frak L$ admitting also a quasi-multiplicative basis, and ${\mathcal U}$ a linear subspace of $\mathbb V$. Also the minimality of $\frak L$ is characterized in terms of the connections and it is shown that the above direct sum is by means of the family of its minimal color gLt-ideals, admitting each one a $\mu$-quasi-multiplicative basis inherited by the one of $\frak L$.

- Abstract
The liquid-to-solid phase transition is a complex process that is difficult to investigate experimentally with sufficient spatial and temporal resolution. A key aspect of the transition is the formation of a critical seed of the crystalline phase in a supercooled liquid, that is, a liquid in a metastable state below the melting temperature. This stochastic process is commonly described within the framework of classical nucleation theory, but accurate tests of the theory in atomic and molecular liquids are challenging. Here, we employ femtosecond x-ray diffraction from microscopic liquid jets to study crystal nucleation in supercooled liquids of the rare gases argon and krypton. Our results provide stringent limits to the validity of classical nucleation theory in atomic liquids, and offer the long-sought possibility of testing nonclassical extensions of the theory.

- Abstract
The rotational relaxation of CO2 by inelastic collisions has been studied in three supersonic jets. The jets were probed by means of Raman spectroscopy with high spectral and spatial resolutions, measuring the rotational populations and the total number density. The time evolution of the rotational populations was analyzed by means of a kinetic master equation, with the help of the energy-corrected sudden power law to relate the numerous state-to-state rate (STS rates) coefficients. In the thermal range investigated, 60-260 K, the STS rates decrease with increasing temperature and with increasing change in the rotational quantum number. Other quantities of interest for fluid dynamics, such as the rotational collision number, the relaxation cross section, and the bulk viscosity, have been derived from the STS rates.

- Abstract

- Abstract
We present an hybrid VOF/embedded boundary method allowing to model two-phase flows in presence of solids with arbitrary shapes. The method relies on the coupling of existing methods: a geometric Volume of fluid (VOF) method to tackle the two-phase flow and an embedded boundary method to sharply resolve arbitrary solid geometries. Coupling these approaches consistently is not trivial and we present in detail a quad/octree spatial discretization for solving the corresponding partial differential equations. Modelling contact angle dynamics is a complex physical and numerical problem. We present a Navier-slip boundary condition compatible with the present cut cell method, validated through a Taylor–Couette test case. To impose the boundary condition when the fluid–fluid interface intersects a solid surface, a geometrical contact angle approach is developed. Our method is validated for several test cases including the spreading of a droplet on a cylinder, and the equilibrium shape of a droplet on a flat or tilted plane in 2D and 3D. The temporal evolution and convergence of the droplet spreading on a flat plane is also discussed for the moving contact line given the boundary condition (Dirichlet or Navier) used. The ability of our numerical methodology to resolve contact line statics and dynamics for different solid geometries is thus demonstrated

- Abstract
This research delves into the nuanced dynamics influencing photocurrent generated in bifacial photovoltaic modules within the framework of agrovoltaic applications. Our findings underscore the necessity of using spectral data over absolute values regards to the wavelength dependence for precise energy yield predictions. Particularly, it is demonstrated that the ground reflectance plays a pivotal role. The type of soil (compact or tilled) and crop growth cycle contribute to temporal variations, significantly affecting energy production. In order to validate the proposed methodology for estimating photocurrent generated by APV systems based on spectral data, we conducted tests in two different irradiance conditions, deliberately chosen for their contrast: clear sky and hazy sky conditions. Experimental measurements were conducted for global, direct, and diffuse irradiance spectral components in both atmospheric scenarios. Additionally, we performed comprehensive spectral reflectance measurements for various soil types and crops throughout an entire growth cycle to depict the temporal variations in these values. It is observed an overestimation in the ratio between front and rear photocurrent generated by the bifacial PV module when the model relies on absolute values of solar irradiance and ground reflectance, compared to utilizing spectral input data. Furthermore, the analysis of absolute values fails to reveal a significant dependence on atmospheric conditions. In summary, this research discussed the implications of spectral data, geometry and atmospheric conditions, for bifacial PV modules in agrovoltaic applications.

- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Increasing evidence points to an active role of oviductal extracellular vesicles (oEVs) in the early embryo-maternal dialogue. METHODS: For this purpose, primary BOEC were co-cultured with in vitro produced embryos (IVP) 53 h post fertilization as follows: BOEC with G embryos (BGE); BOEC with P embryos (BPE); G embryos alone (GE); P embryos alone (PE); BOEC alone (B) and medium control (M). After 24 h of co-culture, conditioned media were collected from all groups and EVs were isolated and characterized. MicroRNA profiling of EVs and embryos was performed by small RNA-sequencing. RESULTS: In EVs, 84 miRNAs were identified, with 8 differentially abundant (DA) miRNAs for BGE vs. B and 4 for BPE vs. B (P-value < 0.01). In embryos, 187 miRNAs were identified, with 12 DA miRNAs for BGE vs. BPE, 3 for G vs. P, 8 for BGE vs. GE, and 11 for BPE vs. PE (P-value < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: These results indicated that oEVs are involved in the oviductal-embryo recognition and pointed to specific miRNAs with signaling and supporting roles during early embryo development.

- Abstract
This research study assesses the influence of the concentration factor on two different PV technologies: c-Si and CIGS, to analyze the feasibility of utilizing CIGS thin-film technology in Low Concentration Photovoltaic conditions. Additionally, the importance of the encapsulation design is explored to determine the optimum thermal management strategy. The initial phase involves an analysis of the thermal performance of two types of commercial photovoltaic module and explores the enhancement of temperature management in CIGS photovoltaics modules by substituting the rear glass backsheet with an aluminum sheet to reduce the operating temperature of the prototype. Subsequently, various prototypes are fabricated, incorporating CIGS and silicon technologies, and different encapsulation designs: tedlar, glass and aluminum backsheets. The analysis reveals that comparing performance under 2.2× and 1× concentration conditions, CIGS technology exhibits the higher performance at 2.2×, making it a more promising choice for LCPV systems. While CIGS technology boasts an intrinsic advantage because of its open circuit voltage temperature coefficient, its performance enhancement under LCPV conditions is further amplified through the optimization of the backsheet to improve the thermal management.

- Abstract
The aim of this article is to present the life and professional trajectory of José Cuatrecasas Arumí (1903–1996), one of the 20th century’s most important Spanish botanists. Therefore, this is a historical study that intends to link the historical circumstances Cuatrecasas experienced with his training as a botanist. This Catalan botanist developed his work in various settings (Barcelona, Madrid, Geneva, Berlin) from his early studies to his doctorate and postdoctoral training, but he began to take an interest in tropical flora from the late 1920s and, more importantly, from the 1930s onwards, when he obtained a chair of botany at the Facultad de Farmacia of the Universidad de Madrid and also became part of the Real Jardín Botánico of Madrid by directing its Tropical Flora Section. The Civil War permanently disrupted the development of his scientific career in Spain, as his Republican militancy forced him into exile. Initially in Colombia and later in the United States, Cuatrecasas continued his lines of research on tropical flora, completing them in the 1960s with an ambitious project in the field of Neotropical Flora. This is how the life and scientific curriculum of one of the best Spanish botanists of the 20th century was forged., Depto. de Historia Moderna y Contemporánea, Fac. de Geografía e Historia, TRUE, pub

Purpose: To assess the refractive and visual outcomes of hyperopic and astigmatic eyes implanted with a monofocal, aspheric, bitoric intraocular lens (IOL) with plate haptics following cataract surgery. Methods: The study evaluated 51 eyes implanted with the AT TORBI 709M IOL (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) during a follow-up of 12-months. Refractive error, rotational stability, monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), monocular corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), and contrast sensitivity were analyzed at 1-, 6-, and 12-months post-surgery. Results: At 12 months, the cumulative CDVA was 20/25 in 94.12% of eyes and 20/32 or better in 98.04%. The UDVA was the same as, or better than, the CDVA in 88.24% of eyes. The mean logMAR UDVA and CDVA values were 0.06 ± 0.11 and 0.00 ± 0.08, respectively. In addition, 92.16% of eyes were within ± 0.50 D and 98.04% were within ± 1.00 D of a spherical equivalent, and 86.27% of eyes had refractive astigmatism ≤ 0.50D and 100% were ≤ 1.00D. The mean spherical equivalent was 0.21 ± 0.31D and the mean refractive cylinder 0.34 ± 0.27D. The IOL rotation was 1.18 ± 1.35 degrees and all eyes had a rotation ≤ 5 degrees. The log contrast sensitivity functions were good and similar for all spatial frequencies during follow-up. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that implantation of the AT TORBI 709M IOL in hyperopic and astigmatic eyes is effective and safe. The visual and refractive outcomes were good, showing excellent rotational stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
