The study of moral judgements often centres on moral dilemmas in which options consistent with deontological perspectives (that is, emphasizing rules, individual rights and duties) are in conflict with options consistent with utilitarian judgements (that is, following the greater good based on consequences). Greene et al. (2009) showed that psychological and situational factors (for example, the intent of the agent or the presence of physical contact between the agent and the victim) can play an important role in moral dilemma judgements (for example, the trolley problem). Our knowledge is limited concerning both the universality of these effects outside the United States and the impact of culture on the situational and psychological factors affecting moral judgements. Thus, we empirically tested the universality of the effects of intent and personal force on moral dilemma judgements by replicating the experiments of Greene et al. in 45 countries from all inhabited continents. We found that personal force and its interaction with intention exert influence on moral judgements in the US and Western cultural clusters, replicating and expanding the original findings. Moreover, the personal force effect was present in all cultural clusters, suggesting it is culturally universal. The evidence for the cultural universality of the interaction effect was inconclusive in the Eastern and Southern cultural clusters (depending on exclusion criteria). We found no strong association between collectivism/individualism and moral dilemma judgements. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited.

Enerji kaynakları, Latin Amerika ve Karayipler ekonomisine önemli ölçüde katkıda bulunmaktadır. Bu açıdan bölgede bir enerji entegrasyonu ile sinerji yaratarak enerji kaynaklarından çok daha iyi bir şekilde fayda sağlanabilir. Ancak bölgede enerji entegrasyonu mekanizması oluşturmak çeşitli zorluklar içermektedir. Bunlar arasında siyasi bölünmeler ve devletler arasındaki güvensizlik ortamı en dikkat çekici unsurlardır. Bu nedenle, oyuncuların egemenliğini uluslarüstü düzeyde bir bölgesel varlığa devrettiği ve böylece siyasi konum ve tercihlerden kaçındığı bir senaryoda, enerji politikalarının uygun koordinasyonu sağlanabilir. Bu nedenle,enerji entegrasyon süreci, Latin Amerika için ekonomik olarak faydalıdır. Energy resources represent a substantial contribution to the economy of Latin America and the Caribbean. In this respect it is possible to benefit from energy sources in a much better way by creating synergies with energy integration in the region. However, the region has various limitations to establish a mechanism of energy integration, among them, the most noticeable are the political fragmentation and the distrust between the different States. That is why such mechanism might achieve proper coordination of energy policies in a scenario in which actors transfer sovereignty to a regional entity in a supranational level, thereby avoiding political positions and preferences. In this sense, the adoption of member states' regional policies as a means of harmonization is necessary for coordinating energy strategies and for creating synergies. If this is done, the energy integration process will lead to regional development via increase in energy availability, reduction in tariff barriers and a decrease in transport costs, resulting in affordable prices, while at the same time creating a favorable environment for knowledge spillovers and scale economies. The econometric model in this thesis confirms these facts. Coordination of regional energy policies in the region leads to growth in GDP by increasing energy production and consumption in the region. For this reason, the energy integration process is economically beneficial for Latin America

Gana, Afrika'nın en iyi ekonomilerinden biridir bu nedenle ülke, hem gelişmiş ve hem de gelişmekte olan ülkelerin cazibe merkezi olmaya başlamıştır. Bunun da ötesinde bazı yükselen piyasalar ekonomi üzerinde önemli rol oynamaya başlamıştır, ancak bazı yükselen piyasaların Gana ekonomisine olan etkileri ticaret ve Doğrudan Yabancı Yatırımlar (DDY) açısından çok fazla incelenmemiştir. Doğrudan yabancı yatırım (DYY) ve ticaretin sermaye oluşumu için ek kaynaklar sağladığı gibi aynı zamanda ülkelerin yabancı piyasalara erişimini mümkün kıldığı için Gana gibi alt orta gelirli ülkelerin büyümesinde katalizör görevi gördüğü kabul edilmektedir. Ayrıca ticaret ve DYY, dış pazarlar ve sermaye birikimine erişmek gibi ana amaçlara ek olarak, istihdam yaratma, teknoloji transferi, beceri geliştirme, ticaret ve rekabet ortamı yaratma gibi yayılma etkilerini de içeren verimlilik kazançları sağlamaktadır. Bu nedenle ticaret ve DYY birçok çalışmada ekonomik büyümenin ana unsuru olarak görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Gana'nın dış ticaret ve DYY akışlarının ekonomik büyümesine olan etkileri bazı yükselen ekonomiler (Brezilya, Çin, Hindistan Güney Afrika ve Türkiye) açısından analiz edilecektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışma ilk olarak, Gana ve yükselen ülkeler arasındaki ithalat, ihracat ve DYY'nı incelemekte ve ardından dış ticaret ve DYY'ın Gana'nın ekonomik büyümesine olan katkısını araştırmaktadır. Gana'nın ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki ihracat, ithalat ve DYY etkisini değerlendirmek için 1994- 2013 dönemine ait zaman serisi verileri ile panel veri ve regresyon teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın deneysel bulguları ihracat, ithalat ve doğrudan yabancı yatırımların Gana ekonomisi üzerinde büyük etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Seçilen ülkelerle yapılan ihracat ekonomik büyümeyi olumlu olarak etkilerken, bu ülkelerden yapılan ithalat ekonomik büyümeyi olumsuz olarak etkilemektedir. Aynı zamanda bu ülkelerden gelen DDY akımları Gana'nın reel GSYİH büyümesine olumlu katkı sağlamaktadır. Ghana's economy has been one of the best in Africa, thus has become a center of attraction both at the developed and developing countries. Moreover, in recent years, some emerging markets have begun to play an important role in the economy but much has not been analyzed on the impact of in terms of trade and direct investments these emerging markets on Ghana's economy. The role of foreign direct investment (FDI) and trade has been recognized as a catalyst in the growth of lower middle income nations such as Ghana in that it brings additional sources of capital formation and also gives countries' access to foreign markets. In addition the primary aims of trade and FDI, as access to foreign markets and capital formation, trade and FDI also bring productive benefits, which include employment creation, technology transfer and associated spillover effects; skills development; trade and competitiveness. As such, trade and FDI is viewed in many studies as a key driver of economic growth. This study aims to examine several hypotheses relating to the effects of FDI inflows, exports, and imports from some selected emerging economies (Brazil, China, India, South Africa, and Turkey) and economic growth in Ghana. In accordance with this purpose, firstly the study examines the trend of exports, imports and FDI between Ghana and these selected emerging markets and then investigates the contribution of exports, imports and FDI to economic growth in Ghana. Using time series data for the period from 1994 to 2013, panel data, a regression techniques are employed to evaluate the effect of Exports, imports and FDI on Ghana's economic growth. The empirical findings show that Exports, Imports and FDI are major influential factors of economic growth in Ghana. Exports from these selected emerging markets contributed positively to the economic growth of Ghana while import had a negative effect on GDP growth rate of Ghana. FDI inflows from these countries also had a positive impact on the real GDP growth rate of Ghana.

Ülkelerin uluslararası sisteme entegre olmasıyla birlikte iktisadi karar süreçleri daha çok dünya piyasalarında belirlenmeye başlamıştır. Finansal serbestleşme sürecinde değişen birikim ve büyüme ilişkileri, gelişmekte olan ülkelerin dış borçlarının katlanarak artmasındaki en önemli faktörlerden olmuştur. Artan dış borçlar ülkeleri kırılgan hale getirmiş ve birçok gelişmekte olan ülkede kriz yaşanmıştır. Öte yandan 1980zlerden beri yaşanan büyük krizlerin tamamına yakının çıkış nedeni sermaye hareketlerinde ani bir yavaşlama, durma veya sermaye hareketlerinin tersine dönmesinden kaynaklanmaktadır. İktisadi alanda yaşanan bir diğer değişiklik ekonomide devletin payının azalması, özel sektöre ekonomik büyümenin motoru olarak rol biçilmesi ve özel sektörün devlet tarafından desteklenmesidir. Bu süreçle birlikte toplam dış borç artmaya devam ederken özel sektörün toplam dış borç içindeki payı artmıştır. Son dönemlere kadar literatürde özel sektörün borçları üzerinde fazla durulmamıştır. Since countries have been integrating into the global system, economic decision processes are increasingly determined in the world markets. Accumulation and growth relations which have been altered during financial liberalization period are the main reasons of exponentially increasing external debt of developing countries. High level external debt stocks have made countries fragile and crises occurred in many of the developing countries. The main reason of the major crises that took place since 1980s is the sudden slowdown, sudden stop and/ or reversal of capital flows. Another shift in economic field is the reduced government activity in economy, i.e. private sectorzs determinant role as the engine of growth, and government support to private sector accordingly. Within this period, while external debt has been rising, the share of private sector in external debt has been rising as well. Until recently, the rising debt of private sector was ignored in literature. But till then it has been seen that the high levels of private external debt can also trigger crises in the case of sudden slowdown, sudden stop and/ or reversal of capital flows and this fact has made the importance of this issue more obvious. In this study, the effect of rising share of private external debt in total external debt on country risk in twelve emerging market economies is analyzed by using panel data techniques. The results of the study indicate that the increasing share of private sector in total external debt raise country risk in these countries

WOS: 000421963600007, PubMed: 25782122, Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common causes of preventable ischemic stroke and is related to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. There is a lack of data in Turkey on the use of new oral anticoagulants (NOACs), and time in therapeutic INR range (TTR) in vitamin K antagonist users and AF management modality. In this multi-center trial, we aimed to analyze, follow and evaluate the epidemiological data in non-valvular AF patients. Study design: Four thousand one hundred consecutive adult patients from 42 centers with at least one AF attack identified on electrocardiography will be included in the study. Patients with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis and prosthetic valve disease will be excluded from the study. At the end of one year, the patients will be evaluated in terms of major cardiac end points (death, transient ischemic attack, stroke, systemic thromboembolism, major bleeding and hospitalization). Results: First results are expected in June 2015. Data about major cardiovascular end-points will be available in January 2016. Conclusion: The rates and kind of oral anticoagulant use, TTR in vitamin K antagonist users and main management modality applied in non-valvular AF patients will be determined by AFTER-2 study. In addition, the rate of major adverse events (MACEs) and the independent predictors of these MACEs will be detected (AFTER-2 Study ClinicalTrials. gov number, NCT02354456.).

Mycorrhizae application plays an important role regarding the yield, development and nutrient uptake of pepper plant (Capsicum annuum L.), especially in soils with high phosphorus fixation capacity. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of two mycorrhizal species and three different P doses on pepper growth in an iron oxide and carbonate rich Harran soil. Inan-3363 pepper variety was chosen for the experiment and inoculated with Glomus mosseae and G. etunicatum mycorrhizae species at the seedling and transplanting stages. In the first stage, pepper seeds with about 1000 spores per viol in perlite+peat (1:1, V: V) mixture and without mycorrhizal inoculations were seeded and left to grow. At the second stage the seedlings were transplanted to the experimental plots. In addition to control (0), the plots have received 100 and 200 kg ha-1 P2O5 doses. Both mycorrhizal inoculations had statistically significant positive effect on the pepper yield; however, G. mosseae species caused more pepper yield than G. etunicatum inoculation. Inoculated seedlings resulted in 5.4 and 12.7% yield increase when compared to plots with the 200 kg ha-1 P2O5 doses only. However, yield increases in re-inoculated seedlings (at transplanting stage) were 6 and 20.9% with the 200 kg ha-1 P2O5 dose. The study confirms that the application of mycorrhizae is of great importance to increase the pepper production under field conditions in the region. Plant analyses showed that mycorrhizae inoculation has no statistically significant effect on the amount of plant nutrients.

This paper aims to contribute understanding of industrial dynamics of Gaziantep Province. The analysis is based on the survey data obtained in the research project named Industrial Inventory of SEAP and Transformation Tendencies in Industry funded by TUBITAK. The survey data was obtained by face to face interviews in 2057 companies in Gaziantep. But, the response rate was % 51,35 , in other words, 1056 companies were included in this paper. The inquiry consisted of 120 questions that are either multiple choice or short answer. For this study, 40 variables were chosen from the survey results which might indicate industrialization dynamics of Gaziantep. SPSS software version 15.0 was used to perform statistical analysis. First, frequency distribution tables were composed for each question and comparisons through cross-tabulations were performed to assess relations between categorical variables. At this stage, main findings were discussed and illustrated with summary tables and figures. Then, a logistic regression model was created and to formalize the study, variables that can possibly have influences on the competitiveness and export dynamics of the companies in Gaziantep were determined. According to this analysis; working capital, capacity use ratio, firm scale, ownership of firms' property, computerization of firms and educational attainment are found to be important variables for competitiveness of the firms in the district of Gaziantep.

Enformasyon ve iletişim teknolojilerinin gelişimi, tarihsel süreçte ekonomik ve sosyal alanda büyük değişim yaşanmasına neden olmuştur. Sermaye hareketlerinin serbestleşmesiyle ve özellikle iletişim teknolojilerinde yaşanan gelişmelerle finansal işlemler elektronik piyasalar aracılığı ile küresel ölçekte gerçekleşmektedir. Temelde ekonomik aktörlerin sürekli daha yüksek kâr elde etme isteklerinden kaynaklanan finansal yenilikler, yeni finansal teknolojiler, kurumlar ve piyasalar ile oluşan yeni finansal araçlar ve hizmetler olarak tanımlanabilir. Ekonomide reel piyasaları da etkileyen finansal yenilikler; verimlilik ve iktisadi büyüme üzerinde de etkili olmuştur. Ancak, finansal yeniliklerin para talebinde değişikliliklere neden olması, finansal sistemin istikrarını bozabilecek bir gelişmenin yeni finansal araçlar ile diğer ülkelere de kolaylıkla sıçrayabilmesi gibi etkileri nedeniyle finansal yenilikler bazı belirsizlik ve riskler oluşturmaktadır. Advancement of information and communication technologies brought a considerable influence economically and socially over the years. Liberalization of capital movements and especially, advancements in communication technologies elevated financial transactions to global scale by means of electronic markets. Financial innovations, essentially being results of economic actors' demand for more profit, can be defined as new financial instruments and financial services composed from financial technologies, institutions and markets. Financial innovation affecting real markets also has an impact on efficiency and economic growth. However, financial innovations bring some uncertainty and risks. Financial innovations change money demand; instability of an economy can easily pass other countries' economies with new financial instruments. This study, following the definition of financial innovations, aims to make an assessment of financial innovations in the light of various economic theories and examine the effects of financial innovations on Turkish economy. In conclusion, usage of new financial instruments and services in Turkey constantly increases.

Günümüzde enformasyon ve iletişim teknolojilerinde ortaya çıkan gelişmeler potansiyel çıktı ve verimliliği arttırmaktadır. Ne var ki verimliliğe ilişkin eğilimlerin belirsizlikler taşıması para politikalarının uygulanması ve düzenlenmesinin önünde önemli ölçüde sorun oluşturmaktadır. Enformasyon teknolojileri, para politikalarında kullanılan araç ve hedefler açısından belirsizliği arttırarak para politikası kararlarını güçleştirmektedir. Enformasyon ürün ve hizmetlerinin ekonomilerdeki ağırlığı arttıkça; ödeme sistemlerinde meydana gelen hızlı transformasyon süreci ve değişmeler gerçekleştikçe; para politikası hedeflerini ölçmek ve tanımlamak daha da zor hale gelmektedir. Fakat daha gelişmiş ölçüm yöntemlerine imkan tanıyan ve belirsizliği hafifletebilen enformasyon sürecindeki gelişmeler, aynı zamanda para politikası karar alma mekanizmalarını kolaylaştırmaktadır. But, uncertainty about productivity trends poses a major challenge in the design and implementation of monetary policies. Information technologies make monetary policy decision – making more difficult by increasing uncertainty about the targets and the instruments of monetary policies. The targets of monetary policies are harder to define and to measure when information goods and services are a large or growing part the economy. The instruments of monetary policy also become harder to define and measure when information technology causes the payments system to undergo rapid transformation. But also, information technologies make monetary policy decision – making easier by improving the processing of information and by permitting greater quantification and handling of uncertainty. The purpose of this paper is to examine this trend and its implications for monetary policy.

This paper focuses on the relationship between technology and education. Technology is one of the most important determinants of economic development and the level of technology is one the most obvious factor that distinguishes a poor country from the rich one. Also, technological change has become more strongly biased in favor of skilled workers. Because today's global knowledge intensive technologies require a workforce that understands how to use technology as a tool to increase productivity and creativity. Worldwide experience shows that the education has always been a critical complement to technological growth and that what we need is concerted and serious nation-al effort to achieve it. Some countries have successfully combined education and technology policies and they have broken the vicious circle while other developing economies stagnated. Thus, countries with low levels of education renıain in a trap of technological stagnation, low growth, and low productivity. Turkey needs to nanrow down the gap anıong skills, to renıain as a competitive player in global markets. in this paper, these policies are discussed related to some successful countries.

ÖZET Dünya ekonomisinde varlığını önemli ölçüde duyuran bilgi endüstrilerindeki hızlı gelişmeler, iktisatçıları oldukça yeni koşullarla karşı karşıya getirmiştir. Bilgi endüstrisi ürünlerinin, sanayi ve hizmetler sektöründeki ürünlerle oldukça farklı bir niteliğe sahip olması, üretim, dağıtım, maliyet ve finansman koşullarındaki sıra dışı özellikler; bu endüstrilerin ekonomik anlamda yarattığı etkilerin yeniden tanımlanmasını gerektirmektedir. Son yıllar; ihracat ve ithalatın, sermaye akımının, finans, iletişim ve hatta şirket kavramlarının ekonomik alanda tümüyle değiştiğine tanık olmaktadır. Dünya ticaretinin yeni kuralları içinde biçimlenen bu kavramların yeniden sorgulanması ihtiyacı, doğal olarak yeni araştırma akımlarını da beraberinde sürüklemektedir. Bu ortam içinde, son yıllarda bilgi endüstrilerinin en önemli bileşenlerinden biri olan medyaların, ekonomik araştırmalara konu olduğu görülmektedir. Medya endüstrilerinin ekonomilerin içindeki yeni ve güçlü konumunun, bu araştırmaların gelişmesi için bir temel oluşturduğu ve bu ilginin özellikle, 1980'lerden sonra ivme kazandığı gözlemlenmektedir. Medya ekonomisiyle ilgili olarak yapılan teorik çalışmalarda; mikro bir yaklaşım sunan endüstriyel organizasyon teorisinin rehber olarak alınması, kullanışlı modeller sağlamaktadır. Ülkelerin, geleneksel makro göstergelerinin ve istatistiki verilerinin medya ürün ve hizmetlerine yönelik olarak tasarlanmamış olması, medya ekonomisi çalışmalarının daha mikro düzeyde ele alınmasını gerektirmektedir. Bu aşamada Türkiye koşullarında ise, mikro düzeyde de, veri sağlama konusunda ciddi bir biçimde olanaksızlık olduğunun altının çizilmesi gerekmektedir. Gelişmiş ülkelerde olduğu gibi, medya firmalarının sermaye piyasalarına tümüyle açılmaması ve medyalar konusunda istatistiki bilgi sağlayan kurumların olmayışı, bu olanaksızlığın en önemli nedenlerini oluşturmaktadır. Endüstriyel organizasyon modeli, genel olarak, firmaların çalıştıklarıpiyasayı biçimlendirdikleri, ama aynı zamanda aynı piyasadan etkilendikleri varsayımına dayanır. Piyasalardaki yapı-yönetim-performans koşullarını ele alan model, bu koşulların birbirlerini karşılıklı olarak etkilediklerini ve nihai aşamada belirlediklerini öngörür. Alıcı ve satıcıların yoğunluğu, ürün farklılaştırması, piyasaya girişte karşılaşılan engeller, maliyet yapıları, piyasadaki yatay ve dikey entegrasyonun varlığı ve boyutları, piyasa yapısının değişkenleriyken, firmaların davranışları o endüstrideki yönetim tarzını açıklar. Bu davranışlar; fiyat ve ürün stratejisinin belirlenmesi, araştırma ve yeniliklere yapılan harcamalar ve reklamcılık faaliyetlerini içerir. Tüm bu değişkenler endüstrinin başarı ölçütlerini etkiler. Teknolojik etkenlik, ilerleme ve yenilikler, endüstrinin tam istihdamı sağlaması birer performans kriteridir. Bu tezde, endüstriyel organizasyon teorisinin rehberliği benimsenmiştir. Bu amaçla, öncelikle temel endüstriyel organizasyon teorisi genel olarak ele alınmış, ardından teorinin medya ekonomilerine uygulanması gündeme getirilmiştir. Medya piyasalarında batılı ülkelerdeki gelişmeler ve piyasalardaki yapısal öğelerin analizlerinin yapıldığı bölümde, medyaların doğalarının veya diğer bir söyleyişle ekonomik gereklerinin tekelleşme eğilimlerini arttırıcı bir rol oynadıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Pek çok ülkeyi kapsayan veriler ışığında ülke deneyimlerine bakıldığında; medya piyasalarındaki piyasaya giriş engellerinin yüksekliği, büyük sermaye gereksinimi, oldukça geniş olan ölçek ekonomilerinin varlığı, firmalar arasındaki yatay ve dikey birleşmeler gibi gerçeklerin tekelleşmenin boyutlarını arttıran unsurlar olduğu görülmüştür. Bir çok ülkede yapılan yasal düzenlemeler ise, bu gerçekler karşısında yetersiz kalmakta, bu konuda çözüm arayışları hükümetlerin gündemini doldurmaktadır. Diğer yandan, çalışma içerisinde medya endüstrilerinin kendine özgü ekonomik özellikleri ele alınmış, teorik açıdan bu. farklılıkların piyasaya yansıma biçimleri incelenmiştir. Örneğin, fiyatları saptarken göz önünde tutulan kriterler, işbirliğine yönelik stratejiler, ürün stratejileri gibi maliyet ve finansman koşullarına bağlı olarak gelişebilen davranışlar, medyaların ekonomik özgünlüklerini belirlemektedir.Türkiye ile ilgili bölümde, medya piyasalarının incelenmesinde, endüstriyel organizasyon teorisinin öngördüğü kurallar çerçevesinde, piyasadaki rekabet biçimleri ve buna bağlı olarak firma davranışları, piyasaya giriş engelleri, firmaların maliyet yapıları ele alınmıştır. Elektronik-görsel ve yazılı medyada mevcut sahiplik ilişkileri ve bu ilişkilerin piyasaya yansıma biçimleri Türkiye ile ilgili bölümün ana temalarını oluşturmaktadır. Yazılı basında oldukça güncel olan promosyona dayalı rekabet ve işbirliği stratejileri, oligopol davranışlarını ele alan teoriler ışığında tartışılmıştır. Firmaların davranışlarının endüstrinin başarı kriterlerini nasıl etkilediği performans koşullarının incelendiği bölümde ele alınmıştır. Diğer yandan, tezin çeşitli aşamalarında, Türkiye'de medya piyasalarında yoğunlaşmanın ölçülmesi, tiraj-reklam payları, fiyat-tiraj ilişkilerinin her biri, metrik birer araştırma konusu oluşturmuş ve çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. IV ABSTRACT Economists are being faced with new conditions mainly due to rapid developments in the world economy. The difference between the characteristics of the products of information industry and the products of manufacturing and services, their unusual features in production, distribution, cost and financing require new definitions for their economic effects. Recent years have witnessed drastic changes in the definitions of export and import, capital flows, finance, communication and even company in the economical sense. The need for requisitioning of these definitions which are formed within the new rules of the world trade is accompanied with streams of studies obviously. In this environment, as one of the important components of the information industry, the media has been subjected to economic analysis in the recent years. The new and strong role of the media in the economy established the fundamentals for the development of these studies, which have been accelerated especially after 1980's. The use of Industrial Organization Theory, which provides a micro approach in the theoretical studies related with the media economics, provides useful models. As traditional macro indicators and statistical data of many countries have not been designed considering the media products and services, studies for the media economy have to be conducted at more micro level. At this stage, it should be underlined that in Turkey there are serious difficulties in the availability of data, even at the micro level. This arises from the fad's that the shares of media companies are not offered to the public completely, like many developed countries, and there are no institutions collecting and providing statistical data on media. Industrial Organization Model, in general, assumes that the media firms shape the market where they are active, but at the same time they are affgcted bythe same market. This model, which handles the conditions of structure - administration - performance in the market, envisages that these factors affect and at the final stage determine each other. While the number of buyers and sellers, product differentiation, barriers to entry into the market, cost structures, existence and magnitude of vertical and horizontal integration to the market are the variables of the market structure, the behavior of the firms describes the way of administration in that industry. This behavior includes the activities of the determination of price and product strategy, expenditures for R&D (research & development) and advertisement. All of these variables affects the degree of the success in the industry. The technical efficiency, improvements and inventions in the sector, whether the full employment are attained or not are the performance criteria. *- In this study, the guidance of Industrial Organization Theory has been taken. Within this context, initially the Industrial Organization Theory has been handled in general and following to that implementation of this theory on the media economy has been brought to the agenda. In the section where the developments of the media market in the western countries and structural elements in the market has been analyzed, it is concluded that the nature of the media or in other words, economic needs of media played an important role in the tendency towards being a monopoly. When the data and the experiences of many countries have been reviewed, it has been observed that the realities like level of barriers to entry into the media market, necessity of immense capital, the existence of scale economies, vertical and horizontal integration of the firms are the major elements increasing the degree of monopolization. Legal arrangements, in many countries turned out to be insufficient due to these facts, and the search for a solution to this problem occupies the agenda of the governments. On the other side, in this study, the unique economic features of the media industry has been dealt, and from the theoretical point of view, the reflection of this uniqueness to the market have been examined. For instance, behavior in relation with the cost and financing like the criteria taken into account in determining theVI price of the product, strategy towards the cooperation, product strategy, determine the specific economic character of the media firms. In the section related with Turkey, while examining the media market within the framework of the rules of the Industrial Organization Theory, types of the competition in the market and accordingly firms behavior, the barriers to entry into the market and the cost structures of the firms have been handled. The ownership relationship of TV channels and the press and the reflection of this relationship to the market are the main topics of the section on Turkey. Marketing strategies based on promotions and cooperation strategies, which are quite popular in the press in these days, have been discussed within the framework of oligopolistic theories. In addition, in the section where performance conditions are examined, the way how the firms' behavior affects the success of the whole industry has been analyzed. On the other hand, at various stages of this study, in Turkey, the degree of concentration of the media, the share of circulations and the advertisements, the relation between price and the circulations have been a particular topic for the study and contained in the study. 231

People across the world and throughout history have gone to great lengths to enhance their physical appearance. Evolutionary psychologists and ethologists have largely attempted to explain this phenomenon via mating preferences and strategies. Here, we test one of the most popular evolutionary hypotheses for beauty-enhancing behaviors, drawn from mating market and parasite stress perspectives, in a large cross-cultural sample. We also test hypotheses drawn from other influential and non-mutually exclusive theoretical frameworks, from biosocial role theory to a cultural media perspective. Survey data from 93,158 human participants across 93 countries provide evidence that behaviors such as applying makeup or using other cosmetics, hair grooming, clothing style, caring for body hygiene, and exercising or following a specific diet for the specific purpose of improving ones physical attractiveness, are universal. Indeed, 99% of participants reported spending >10 min a day performing beauty-enhancing behaviors. The results largely support evolutionary hypotheses: more time was spent enhancing beauty by women (almost 4 h a day, on average) than by men (3.6 h a day), by the youngest participants (and contrary to predictions, also the oldest), by those with a relatively more severe history of infectious diseases, and by participants currently dating compared to those in established relationships. The strongest predictor of attractiveness-enhancing behaviors was social media usage. Other predictors, in order of effect size, included adhering to traditional gender roles, residing in countries with less gender equality, considering oneself as highly attractive or, conversely, highly unattractive, TV watching time, higher socioeconomic status, right-wing political beliefs, a lower level of education, and personal individualistic attitudes. Introduction We present the case of a patient with extensor carpi ulnaris tendon subluxation who was first treated for distal radioulnar joint sprain. Case presentation A 25-year-old Caucasian man was seen at our policlinic one month after he had fallen on his outstretched hand. A diagnosis of extensor carpi ulnaris subluxation was made clinically but we also had the magnetic resonance imaging scan of the patient’s wrist which displayed an increased signal on T2-weighted images consistent with inflammation around the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon. The extensor carpi ulnaris tendon was found to be dislocating during supination and relocating during pronation. The sheath was reconstructed using extensor retinaculum due to attenuation of subsheath. Conclusion There was no recurrent dislocation of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon of the patient at his last follow up 12 months after the operation.
