In recent years, mind–body exercises have arisen as a popular type of physical exercise among older adults in both Eastern and Western countries. In the last 10 years, yoga has been established as a key physical activity intervention for older adults. Thus, the literature on yoga interventions delivered in community settings for older adults warrants a formal appraisal. This scoping review synthesized information on intervention contents and outcomes and summarized data on attrition, adherence, and adverse events for community health practitioners. In addition, this review used the Template for Intervention Description and Replication and the Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome checklist to identify areas of depth and gaps in the literature on yoga interventions. DEMOGRAPHIC transition , *CONSCIOUSNESS raising , *LIFE spans , *ECONOMIC structure , *TRANSITION to adulthood - Abstract
• We offer a framework for the socioeconomic implications of aging populations. • We introduce a composite indicator: the Senior Economy Tracker (SET). • The SET assesses inter/intra-regional readiness in adapting to aging populations. • The SET guides policymaking and raises awareness of this demographic challenge. Aging constitutes the dominant demographic challenge globally. The demographic transition entails a paradigm shift in the economic model to accommodate economic structures to life-expectancy gains. The socioeconomic implications from this transition remain largely undefined conceptually from an integrated perspective and unrecognized in official statistics. This study introduces a multidimensional and multi-actor reference framework, and a composite indicator, the Senior Economy Tracker (SET), to measure national readiness and progress in adapting to the demographic transition, over time and across countries. We apply our indicator to 27 European countries in 2010-2021. Our study reveals crucial differences in pathways and stages of maturity in addressing the socioeconomic impacts of aging. The proposed indicator aims to guide action to adapt economic structures to longer life spans, assist organizational and individual decision making, facilitate the development of effective policy interventions and raise awareness of the demographic transition. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of videoconferencing-delivered online exercise classes among community-dwelling older adults. This phenomenon is new, and no research has investigated older adults' relevant experiences and postpandemic perspectives. This study is situated in a naturalistic paradigm and adopted a descriptive qualitative methodology to understand the phenomenon. In-depth interviews were conducted with 23 older adults (aged 55–89 years) who have participated in videoconferencing-delivered online exercise since the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing thematic analysis, eight key themes were identified. Older adults experienced convenience, exercise regularity, technological transformation, and motivation when using this new form of exercise delivery. At the same time, they also experienced certain technological barriers and compromised quality of instructor supervision. Looking forward, older adults welcomed the increased opportunity for supervised exercise due to increased virtual capacity. They also envisaged that mobility-restricted groups such as frail older adults and caregivers would benefit from this form of exercise delivery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Perioperative neurocognitive disorders are often neglected and undiagnosed. There are known risk factors for these disorders (e.g., higher levels of frailty, cognitive decline before surgery). However, these factors are usually not assessed in the daily clinical setting. One of the main reasons for this lack of examination is the absence of a suitable cognitive function test that can be used in acute clinical settings. The primary aim of this study was to determine correlations between preoperative and postoperative scores on three cognitive tests (the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE), the Clock Drawing Test (CDT) and the Test of Gestures (TEGEST). Methods This was a prospective, monocentric, observational study that included one cohort of patients aged 65 years and older. Patients underwent acute or elective surgical operations. Preanaesthesia tests were administered. After the operation, the patients completed the same tests between the 2nd postoperative day and discharge. Preoperative and postoperative cognitive test scores were assessed. Results This study included 164 patients. The arithmetic mean age was 74.5 years. The strongest correlations were observed between MMSE scores and TEGEST scores (r = 0.830 before and 0.786 after surgery, P

NEUTROPHIL lymphocyte ratio , *OLDER patients , *COVID-19 , *RESPIRATORY insufficiency , *LACTATE dehydrogenase - Abstract
Objective: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme that is responsible for the production of lactic acid, which is a necessary byproduct when the body does not have enough oxygen. LDH levels in the blood can be used as a marker to predict mortality in patients with ARDS, severe COVID-19, and cancer. To analyze the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 in the elderly and the correlation between LDH and respiratory failure in COVID-19 patients, to improve the identification and management of this type of pneumonia by clinicians. Methods: This was a single-center retrospective study. We performed routine laboratory tests in 105 COVID-19 patients admitted to the affiliated hospital of Qingdao University (Qingdao, China) from October 1, 2022 to February 1, 2023. The diagnosis of respiratory failure was established based on the results of blood gas analysis upon admission. Results: The median age was 79 years. Among all univariable parameters, LDH, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and Prothrombin Time (PT) were significantly independent risk factors of RF in elderly COVID-19 patients. LDH (AUC=0.829) also had a maximum specificity (96.5%), with the cutoff value of 280.5. Conclusion: The levels of LDH, NLR, and PT may serve as potential indicators for elderly COVID-19 patients combined with respiratory failure. LDH, NLR and PT assays can be beneficial for patients who need closer respiratory monitoring and more aggressive supportive care to prevent a negative prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to assess the return and downside risk of a decumulation portfolio established at the retirement age of a senior, with a determined lifetime horizon differentiated by the sex of the citizen. To measure the portfolio's return and downside risk, two ratios conditioned by seniors' risk attitude towards portfolio failure are employed: the downside Sortino ratio and the downside risk–return ratio. Unlike other research in the field, this manuscript provides three portfolio compositions catering to different senior investment profiles: aggressive, moderate, and conservative. Additionally, it offers a decumulation horizon conditioned by the sex-specific life expectancy of the individual, instead of offering different scenarios for conducting a sensitivity analysis. Lastly, this study was conducted across three socioeconomically distinct countries: the US, Spain, and Japan. The results clearly demonstrate that both sex and nationality significantly influence the selection of the optimal decumulation portfolio composition aimed at exhausting funds by the senior's demise. Background: Perioperative neurocognitive disorders are often neglected and undiagnosed. Preoperative and postoperative cognitive test scores were assessed. Results: This study included 164 patients. The arithmetic mean age was 74.5 years. The strongest correlations were observed between MMSE scores and TEGEST scores (r = 0.830 before and 0.786 after surgery, P < 0.001). To compare the MMSE and the TEGEST, the MMSE was divided into 2 categories—normal and impaired—and good agreement was found among 76.2% of the participants (ϰ = 0.515). If the TEGEST scoring system was changed so that scores of 4–6 indicated normal cognition and scores of 0–3 indicated cognitive impairment, the level of agreement would be 90.8%, ϰ = 0.817. Only 5.5% of the patients had impaired MMSE scores and normal TEGEST scores, whereas 3.7% of the respondents normal MMSE scores and impaired TEGEST scores. Conclusion: According to our results, the TEGEST is a suitable option for assessing cognitive functioning before surgery among patients who are at risk of developing perioperative neurocognitive disorders. This study revealed that it is necessary to change the rating scale for the TEGEST so that scores of 4–6 indicate normal cognition and scores of 0–3 indicate cognitive impairment. In clinical practice, the use of the TEGEST may help to identify patients at risk of perioperative neurocognitive disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: As the world's population ages, there has been increasing attention to developing health policies to support older adults. Engaging older adults in policy‐making is one way to ensure that policy decisions align with their needs and priorities. However, ageist stereotypes often underestimate older adults' ability to participate in such initiatives. This scoping review aims to describe the characteristics and impacts of public engagement initiatives designed to help inform health policy‐making for older adults. Methods: A systematic search of peer‐reviewed and grey literature (English only) describing public engagement initiatives in health policy‐making for older adults was conducted using six electronic databases, Google and the Participedia website. No geographical, methodological or time restrictions were applied to the search. Eligibility criteria were purposefully broad to capture a wide array of relevant engagement initiatives. The outcomes of interest included participants, engagement methods and reported impacts. Results: This review included 38 papers. The majority of public engagement initiatives were funded or initiated by governments or government agencies as a formal activity to address policy issues, compared to initiatives without a clear link to a specific policy‐making process (e.g., research projects). While most initiatives engaged older adults as target participants, there was limited reporting on efforts to achieve participant diversity. Consultation‐type engagement activities were most prevalent, compared to deliberative and collaborative approaches. Impacts of public engagement were frequently reported without formal evaluations. Notably, a few articles reported negative impacts of such initiatives. Conclusion: This review describes how public engagement practices have been conducted to help inform health policy‐making for older adults and the documented impacts. The findings can assist policymakers, government staff, researchers and seniors' advocates in supporting the design and execution of public engagement initiatives in this policy sector. Patient or Public Contribution: Older adult partners from the McMaster University Collaborative for Health and Aging provided strategic advice throughout the key phases of this review, including developing a review protocol, data charting and synthesis and interpreting and presenting the review findings. This collaborative partnership was an essential aspect of this review, enhancing its relevance and meaningfulness for older adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

I explore how Yoruba people ascertain who is junior, who is senior, and the mark of equality beyond obvious age, as well as the social function of these distinctions in everyday life. The social ranking of people as either senior, junior or mate is an invaluable principle of social organization among the Yoruba. It features prominently in determining privileges and access, and in orchestrating interpersonal relationships and modes of interaction. I examine linguistic and non-verbal signs drawn from popular cultural performances, habitual practices and proverbs, including sozialised roles and habitual typification which representing the cogitations of a Yoruba senior, to provide an ethnographic description of this social practice in its historical and contemporary form. In addition to the linguistic evidence, the opinions of subjects interviewed on the subject are presented. Taken together, the various sources of information show that this classification system operates within integrated cultural institutions that rest on their origination precepts, goals of earthly existence, and sociation habitudes. The system and its utility persist as they are fundamentally woven into the psychology of the children during their formative years within the lineage, and into the worldview of others through enculturation since people’s life chances are partly dependent on their position within their nuclear family and their lineage.

As the global population of older adults is increasing, it is increasingly important to address the well-being of this demographic. This paper presents a review of the literature on the efficacy of rhythmic exercise programmes that incorporate elements of physical movement and for enhancing the well-being of healthy older adults. Sixteen studies were identified for in-depth review. A systematic review of the literature following the PRISMA guidelines revealed promising outcomes across multiple domains. The results revealed that rhythmic exercise programmes demonstrate significant improvements in physical capabilities, cognitivefunctioning, psychological well-being, social connections, and physiological parameters. Gaps and limitations in the research to date, such as a lack of studies on the social benefits, limited variation in the types of exercise studied, skewed gender ratios, age-related differences, and the impact of music types and preferences, highlight avenues for future investigation. By addressing these gaps, future research can provide a more nuanced understanding of the effectiveness of rhythmic exercise programmes and inform the development of tailored interventions to meet the diverse needs of older adult populations.

In Vietnam, pedagogical students are not just equipped with a system of knowledge and skills in the classroom, they also need to apply the knowledge and skills in general education through practicums. To develop learners' capacity, student teachers need to be equipped to use active teaching methods that are appropriate and promote positiveness. The use of pedagogical methods is most evident during a practicum. This article focuses on determining the reality of seniors who are about to become trained teachers and use pedagogical methods in general education when they join a practicum. The article uses a mixed methods approach, including qualitative and quantitative methods. The questionaries were used to survey 122 seniors regarding the active teaching methods at the pedagogical school and applied during practicums. SPSS software was used for data analysis. The results show that pre-service teachers are aware of the importance of using active teaching methods when practicing. However, they are not proficient, have not applied a variety of these methods, and there is a significant difference in the way they are used by students of different disciplines. The research has implications for the process of training pre -service teachers. It is necessary to equip them to deal with issues related to active teaching methods. On the other hand, students need to actively apply these methods during the practicum. In addition to the efforts of student teachers, this issue needs the close coordination of pedagogical universities and practicum schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Intracellular levels of glutathione, the major mammalian antioxidant, are reported to decline with age in several species. To understand whether ageing affects circulating glutathione levels in cats, blood was sampled from two age groups, < 3 years and > 9 years. Further, to determine whether dietary supplementation with glutathione precursor glycine (GLY) affects glutathione concentrations in senior cats (> 8 years), a series of free GLY inclusion level dry diets were fed. Subsequently, a 16-week GLY feeding study was conducted in senior cats (> 7 years), measuring glutathione, and markers of oxidative stress. Whole blood and erythrocyte total, oxidised and reduced glutathione levels were significantly decreased in senior cats, compared with their younger counterparts (P ≤ 0·02). The inclusion level study identified 1·5 % free GLY for the subsequent dry diet feeding study. Significant increases in erythrocyte total and reduced glutathione were observed between senior cats fed supplemented and control diets at 4 weeks (P ≤ 0·03; maximum difference of 1·23 µM). Oxidative stress markers were also significantly different between groups at 8 (P = 0·004; difference of 0·68 nG/ml in 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine) and 12 weeks (P ≤ 0·049; maximum difference of 0·62 nG/mG Cr in F
2 -isoprostane PGF2 α ). Senior cats have lower circulating glutathione levels compared with younger cats. Feeding senior cats a complete and balanced dry diet supplemented with 1·5 % free GLY for 12 weeks elevated initial erythrocyte glutathione and altered markers of oxidative stress. Dietary supplementation with free GLY provides a potential opportunity to restore age-associated reduction in glutathione in cats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
This study aimed to examine the factors associated with pedestrian–vehicle collision hotspots involving seniors and children. For the empirical analysis, we first quantified street-level images of collision hotspots involving seniors and children and non-collision hotspots in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, Korea, using deep learning analysis. Thereafter, we examined the risk factors associated with collision hotspots through logistic analyses. This study has two major findings. First, the effects of risk factors (e.g. share of sky and green space) differ between collision hotspots involving seniors and children. Second, some pedestrian safety treatments (i.e. traffic lights and sidewalks) are positively associated with collision risks. The findings suggest that varied approaches to enhancing pedestrian safety among different age groups should be considered for more effective pedestrian safety interventions. In addition, the quality of pedestrian safety measures should be examined to improve pedestrian safety for seniors and children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the nutritional needs and health outcomes of ageing cats and dogs. It discusses the lack of explicit nutritional guidelines for feeding ageing animals and emphasizes the importance of increased scientific knowledge in this area. The article also highlights the differences in nutrient requirements between cats and dogs and the impact of dietary format on their health. It discusses the role of the gut microbiome in ageing and calls for updated nutrient guidelines that consider the unique nutritional requirements of ageing cats and dogs. The article also discusses the mechanisms of aging in cats and dogs, the effects of diet on their aging process, and the lack of specific nutritional guidelines for senior pets. It mentions the need for further research to understand the aging process in cats and dogs and develop targeted dietary interventions to improve their healthspan. The article provides a table summarizing nutrients that have been proven to be effective in improving certain aspects of cats' and dogs' health. It also discusses the health concerns affecting senior pets, such as sarcopenia, inflammageing, and cognitive function. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for further research to understand the specific nutrient requirements of aging cats and dogs and develop nutritional guidelines for them. Pedestrians contribute significantly to the total number of road fatalities and injuries, with their behavior playing a pivotal role in traffic mishaps. Despite this, a limited body of research has delved into the walking behaviors of Chinese seniors. Given this gap, our study rigorously examines the patterns of seniors’ walking behaviors and their influencing factors. We employed exploratory factor analysis to decipher the intrinsic component structures of seniors' walking patterns in China. Subsequently, structural equation modeling was utilized to analyze the impact of demographic attributes and personality characteristics on these behaviors. The findings revealed a four-dimensional structure for senior walking behaviors: transgression, inattention, aggression, and positive behaviors. Introducing personality traits as variables notably enhanced the explanatory power of our model. Specifically, anger, altruism, and normlessness significantly influenced certain dimensions of walking behaviors, while sensation-seeking did not exhibit any notable effect. This study not only highlights the complexity and diversity of elderly walking behaviors but also underscores the importance of tailored interventions to improve walking safety and quality of life for seniors.

SUICIDE risk factors , *ATTEMPTED suicide , *AGE groups , *RESEARCH personnel , *PUBLIC health - Abstract
The increasing scale of suicidal behavior in the population poses a significant challenge to public health activities. Seniors, i.e. people over 60 years of age, and people of pre-retirement age constitute a higher risk group, which is visible in the number of suicide attacks and completed suicides. Comparative analyzes between individual age cohorts allow us to identify this age group as having the highest rate of attacks in relation to suicide attempts. The cognitive and theoretical goal is to learn about the determinants of seniors’suicidal behavior. The practical and implementation goal is to develop recommendations for preventing seniors’suicidal behavior. The main research problem is the following question: What are the determinants of seniors’suicidal behavior? The desk research method was used. Using the typology of suicides presented by Durkheim, an attempt was made to analyze age-specific factors increasing the risk of suicide attacks. Due to the above, it is postulated to combine gerontological and suicidological knowledge into a gerontosuicidological perspective. Analyzes from this perspective will allow researchers to pay more attention to the problems of the suicidological crisis in the analyzed age cohort. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is important to understand the differential impact of COVID-19 on the health of older lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual, and people with other sexual orientations and forms of gender expression (LGBTQIA+). The objective of this study is to systematically review the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTQIA+ older adults' health including risk and protective factors. We reviewed a total of 167 records including LGBTQIA+ older adults published since 2019. Two independent reviewers screened titles and abstracts and extracted information of 21 full-text records meeting inclusion criteria using COVIDENCE software. The results show that the negative health consequences are exacerbated by personal risk (e.g., perceived homo/transphobia and ageism in LGBTQIA+ communities) and environmental factors (e.g., heterosexism within health services). The negative impact seems to be reduced by personal protective (e.g., resilience, spirituality, and hobbies) and environmental factors (e.g., technology use to increase social participation and social rituals). In conclusion, the health of LGBTQIA+ older adults has been disproportionately affected during the pandemic associated to the latest coronavirus (COVID-19). The experiences of LGBTQIA+ older adults during the pandemic are integrated in a Model of Health and Disease for LGBTQIA+ older adults. Specific strategies to promote health and well-being in this community are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of this phenomenological and instrumental case study was to explore the combination of high-performance football and higher education at senior level. In order to go deeper into this topic, which is part of the research on dual careers, semistructured interviews were conducted with 7 male student-football players between 18 and 19 years of age from the lower categories of a Primera División (Spanish Premier League) club. The data have been analysed using reflexive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2022). The results showed that student-football players can pursue a higher dual career: (a) if they identify the challenges they have to face and have the necessary skills and resources; (b) if the people around them accompany them in a way that suits their lifestyle; and (c) if the club promotes a culture that fosters a higher dual career and their mental health. The study also highlights some aspects not foreseen in the sample studied that should be incorporated into the implementation of the dual higher education career, such as a more individualised and flexible approach to cases, adapting each case to the specific circumstances. - Abstract
This study aimed to examine the relative importance of micro-level design features of outdoor fitness areas preferred by older adults and whether preferences varied according to gender, park accompaniment, and mobility status. A series of Adaptive Choice-Based Conjoint (ACBC) tasks were completed by older adults (
n = 372, 65–93 years, 57% female) in an online survey. Ten different micro-level design features of outdoor fitness areas were examined including surface type, location of fitness equipment, equipment designed for older adults, equipment distribution, shade sails, light fixtures, shady trees, benches, drinking water, and water body near fitness area. Hierarchical Bayes analyses within Sawtooth software were used to identify the relative importance scores and part-worth utilities of the design features. For the overall sample, the three most important features were as follows: surface type (21.5%, 95% CI 20.0, 22.9); equipment specifically designed for older adults (18.7%, 95% CI 17.3, 20.2); and shady trees around the fitness area (14.0%, 95% CI 12.9, 15.0). A few significant differences in the relative ranking of design features were observed by gender and mobility status. This study will help stakeholders in understanding which design features to prioritise when (re)designing outdoor fitness areas for older adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
Proper dietary intake is important for masters athletes because of the physiological changes that occur with aging and the unique nutritional needs when competing at high levels. We evaluated the dietary intake of masters athletes competing at the World Masters Athletics Championships (outdoor games, Tampere, Finland, 2022, and indoor games, Torun, Poland, 2023). A total of 43 athletes (16 females and 27 males, mean age 59.2 ± 10.3 y, height 168 ± 8 cm, and body mass 62.3 ± 10.8 kg) participating in endurance (n = 21), sprint (n = 16), jumping (2), multi-component (e.g., decathlon; n = 3), and throwing (n = 1) events provided 24 h dietary recalls while participating in the games. Carbohydrate intake was below the recommended levels for endurance athletes. Protein intake was below the recommended levels for masters athletes, except for female athletes involved in power events (i.e., sprinters and jumpers). Other nutrient intakes that were below the recommended levels included vitamins D and E, calcium, potassium, vitamin A (except for female endurance athletes), folate (except for female power athletes), vitamin C for female endurance athletes, vitamin K and fiber for males, and zinc for endurance athletes. We conclude that while competing at world championships, many athletes are not consuming the recommended levels of carbohydrates, protein, and micronutrients. Athletes attending these games would benefit from increased nutritional support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) virtual tourism to overcome problems and limitations in the senior tourism market. We explored the attributes of VR and AR in the context of vitalizing senior tourism, and the effects of such attributes on older adults' experience, perceived advantage, enjoyment, and reuse intention. Using mixed methods (i.e. qualitative and quantitative approaches), we developed four attributes of VR and AR for senior tourism and analyzed the effects of these attributes on older adults' emotional and behavioural responses. Analysis revealed significant relationships between the variables presented. These results offer meaningful insights about the use of VR and AR in virtual tourism to effectively activate senior tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A economia abstrata é a pura lógica do fenômeno. A economia positiva aplicada pressupõe muitas ciências abstratas distintas.

This paper aims to assess the return and downside risk of a decumulation portfolio established at the retirement age of a senior, with a determined lifetime horizon differentiated by the sex of the citizen. To measure the portfolio’s return and downside risk, two ratios conditioned by seniors’ risk attitude towards portfolio failure are employed: the downside Sortino ratio and the downside risk–return ratio. The results clearly demonstrate that both sex and nationality significantly influence the selection of the optimal decumulation portfolio composition aimed at exhausting funds by the senior’s demise.

Wygeneruje to również potrzebę dostosowania instytucji i pracodawców do zatrudniania starszych pracowników i tworzenia im warunków pracy umożliwiających efektywne funkcjonowanie w miejscu pracy. - Abstract
The epidemiology of cancer leaves no illusions that the coming decades we will see a further increase in the incidence of cancer and that, due to the aging of the population, the population of seniors with oncological diseases will expand rapidly. It is in the over-60s that approximately 70% of cancers are diagnosed. Responding to the unique needs of oncology patients in late adulthood and their families requires an efficient, holistic support system. In addition to medical staff, professionals prepared to provide comprehensive non-medical support play an essential role. For many people, not only single people but entire families, the social worker is an indispensable source of multifaceted support in illness. The research aimed to discern what activities are carried out in social work practice with oncological patients. The study used an in-depth interview with 20 social workers in the Silesian Voivodeship. The data collected allows us to describe the psychosocial, environmental and functional interventions social workers carry out to support people undergoing cancer treatment. Seniors are an important group among them. Undertaken in the residential environment, at different stages of the disease trajectory and life cycle, they show the resources of social work in realizing a holistic model of support for the patient and his/her family. Numerous studies have consistently underlined the significance of personality characteristics in rugby, emphasizing how these traits influence an athlete's performance, interactions within the team, and overall success in the sport. Rugby, being a physically demanding and mentally challenging team sport, requires a diverse set of personality characteristics to excel. The aim of this paper is to assess the agreeableness, the main factor of personality, and its facets, among rugby male and female players, junior and senior. Thus, we consider that between junior and senior rugby players there are some statistically significant differences, depending on their gender, in terms of agreeableness and its facets. In this regard, 99 rugby players were investigated, 51 senior players (male=28, female=23), with an average age of 24 and 22 years, competing in the National Rugby 7's Championship and 48 junior players (male=23, female=25) with an average age of 15 years. To assess agreeableness, the Big Five Questionnaire©plus_short was utilized. This tool investigates all personality factors, including extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, and openness, and it was developed and validated for the Romanian population in accordance with the Big Five model. The individual results were generated and interpreted by the PsihoProfile platform, and the values of the five meta-factors and their facets were analyzed using the Anova statistical test. The study results revealed that, overall, there are similarities in the level of agreeableness and its facets among rugby players. Nonetheless, statistically significant differences were observed in the level of agreeableness and its facets based on the athletes' gender and age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In China, bicycles are a popular mode of transportation for senior citizens. A disproportionate number of traffic-related fatalities and injuries involve cyclists. The violation of cycling laws is a significant cause of cyclist crashes. Few studies have analyzed the cycling violation behaviour of seniors. Therefore, it is essential to examine the factors that influence older individuals' intention to engage in cycling violation behaviours. In this study, the effects of social-demographic characteristics, the exogenous constructs in the health belief model (HBM), and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) on senior cyclists' violation intention were investigated using hierarchical regression analysis. Interviews were conducted with older cyclists in urban areas of Wuhan City, all above 60 years of age. The results showed that very little variance in behavioural intention could be explained by social-demographic factors. The TPB has a significantly greater capacity than the HBM to explain variance in behavioural intention. Perceived susceptibility, perceived benefit, cues to action, subjective norm and attitude significantly impacted behavioural intention, whereas perceived severity, perceived barrier and self-efficacy did not. - Abstract
Objectives: Annual health screening is recommended in elderly cats to allow the early detection of conditions such as chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hyperthyroidism. Nevertheless, age-specific reference intervals (RIs) for renal and thyroid parameters in this population are lacking. The aim of this study was to determine age-specific RIs for selected serum and urine biomarkers related to CKD and hyperthyroidism, namely serum creatinine (sCr), symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA), phosphate (P), total calcium (tCa), total thyroxine (TT4), urinary protein:creatinine ratio (UPC) and urine specific gravity (USG). These RIs were established for elderly cats (aged ⩾7 years) in general, as well as for mature adult cats (aged 7–10 years) and senior cats (aged >10 years) separately. Methods: A prospective study was conducted on client-owned cats aged ⩾7 years and considered healthy by their owners. The cats were screened to rule out metabolic and systemic diseases by means of a thorough history, complete physical examination, blood examination and urinalysis. The data from 206 healthy elderly cats (134 mature adult and 72 senior cats) were included. Age-appropriate RIs were determined following the guidelines of the American Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology and compared with existing laboratory RIs. Results: Clinically relevant differences between the age-specific RI and the laboratory RI were found for several variables. Compared with the laboratory RI, the upper limit of the RI for cats aged ⩾7 years was lower for sCr, TT4 and P, and higher for SDMA. The lower limit of the age-appropriate RI was lower for USG. The new RI was almost identical to the existing laboratory RI for tCa and UPC. Conclusions and relevance: Using age-specific RIs for renal and thyroid biomarkers in mature adult and senior cats has important clinical consequences for the interpretation of health screening results in elderly cats. This confirms the need to adapt laboratory RIs to the specific animal population for which the RI will be used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
