To combat neurodegenerative diseases, researchers throughout the globe are focusing on the use of plant extracts. Radiation protection against 1 -diphenyl-1 -picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was 81% for both VSE and MLE. These two extracts have stronger ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) than the other extracts (33.57 0.20 and 26.76 0.30 mol Fe(II)/g dry weight, respectively). LC-QTOF/MS found MLE active compounds by liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. As shown by the NBT test, MLE and VSE were found to have strong O2 scavenging (0.83/0.09 mg/ml and 0.98%/0.08 mg/ml, respectively). A DCFHDA experiment performed with 2, 7-dichlorodihydrofluorescein dictate (MLE) indicated that MLE was more effective at scavenging ROS, followed by PRE (0.71 +0.08 mg/ml, vs. 0.83 +0.08 mg/ml). A larger neuroprotective effect was found in PRE, while a higher cytotoxicity was found in MLE (viable cells 51% vs. 44%), and the IC50 was 1.92 0.04 mg/ml for MLE and 1.92 0.04 mg/ml for PRE, respectively.
