In recent years, the exploration of solar absorbers has grown in favor due to the scarcity of energy. Here, we propose an absorber with an array of a circular ring surrounding disk (RSD) for solar energy capture. The novel structure keeps above 93.5% absorption with an average absorption of 96.95% in wavelengths from 300 to 4000 nm. Meanwhile, the proposed absorber is advantageous in that the structure is generalizable to other metals and dielectric materials. Furthermore, the data results show that the absorber has polarization-independent properties as well as maintaining >90% absorption in the considered wavelength range up to an incidence angle of 52° and >95% absorption at large process tolerances. Finally, the excellent absorption under the AM1.5 solar spectrum demonstrates the RSD absorber's ability to capture solar energy. In this study, low-cost laser marker ablation of vanadium-coated glass was adopted to prepare self-cleaning, anti-reflective, and anti-fog micro-nano structures on its surface. The surface had a hierarchical micro-nano structure composed of a quasi-periodic microstructure and ∼100 nm-sized worm-like clusters interspersed with dispersed nanoparticles. The solar spectrum (AM 1.5) weighted average transmission of treated glass was enhanced by 3.87% over control glass in the wavelength range of 400–1100 nm. Importantly, the water contact angle of the laser-treated samples achieved and maintained 0° for a duration of 25 days, and the laser-treated samples achieved and maintained excellent anti-fog performance for 150 days. The antifog performance degraded substantially afterward, though was still noticeable compared to the reference even after 428 days of storage in the laboratory. Furthermore, co-achievement of exceptional self-cleaning anti-fog performance and broadband transmission enhancement through laser treatment of glass has rarely been previously reported. Taking into account the electron-rich and visible light response of thiophene, first-principles calculations have been carried out to explore the photocatalytic activity of donor–acceptor polymers incorporating thiophene and boron. Honeycomb-kagome boron–thiophene (BTP) polymers with varying numbers of thiophene units and fixed B center atoms are direct bandgap semiconductors with tunable bandgaps ranging from 2.41 to 1.88 eV and show high absorption coefficients under the ultraviolet and visible regions of the solar spectrum. Fine-tuning the band edges of the BTP polymer is efficiently achieved by adjusting the pore size through the manipulation of thiophene units between the B centers. This manipulation, achieved without excessive chemical functionalization, facilitates the generation of an appropriate quantity of photoexcited electrons and/or holes to straddle the redox potential of the water. Our study demonstrates that two units between B centers of thiophene in BTP polymers enable overall photocatalytic water splitting, whereas BTP polymers with larger pores solely promote photocatalytic hydrogen reduction. Moreover, the thermodynamics of hydrogen and oxygen reduction reactions either proceed spontaneously or need small additional external biases. Our findings provide the rationale for designing metal-free and single-material polymer photocatalysts based on thiophene, specifically for achieving efficient overall water splitting. VO2-based thermochromic coatings have gained much attention in temperature-adaptive smart windows, and constructing multilayer film structures is the main way to obtain high thermochromic performances. Based on the self-developed objective-orientated automatic optimization code, the present research realized customized designs of thermochromic multilayer coatings composed of VO2, TiO2, and SiO2 from the objectives of visible luminance (Tlum) and solar light modulation (ΔTsol). The TiO2/VO2/s, VO2/TiO2/s, TiO2/VO2/TiO2/s, and SiO2/TiO2/VO2/TiO2/s (s denotes substrate) multilayer film systems were then prepared by magnetron sputtering and vacuum controllable heating, with their structures, insulator-metallic transition, and thermochromic properties being carefully studied. The result showed that the best trade-off between high Tlum and high ΔTsol was achieved for these film assemblies, and solar light modulation was mainly limited at the near-IR wavelength region of the solar spectrum, with the difference between cool- and hot-state Tlum being greatly reduced. In the case of the four-layer SiO2/TiO2/VO2/TiO2/s, very high average Tlum (60%) and high ΔTsol (14%) were obtained. A 100 × 100 mm2 of the SiO2/TiO2/VO2/TiO2/s was also prepared, and it showed an obvious temperature adjustment, and the service life can last for 14 years under normal weather conditions. The reverse bias stability is a key concern for the commercialization and reliability of halide perovskite photovoltaics. Here, the robustness of perovskite‐silicon tandem solar cells to reverse bias electrical degradation down to −40 V is investigated. The two‐terminal tandem configuration, with the perovskite coupled to silicon, can improve the solar cell resistance to severe negative voltages when the tandem device is properly designed. While perovskite cells typically exhibit early reverse bias breakdown voltages, the serial connection with silicon cells with large shunt resistances and high voltage breakdown limits their negative polarization and prevent the passage of large current densities when reverse biased. The importance of careful optical design is illustrated, with bottom‐limited conditions required to prevent the perovskite top cell from exploring its own breakdown. This aspect is of great importance in the case of partial shading events when the solar spectrum is richer in the IR components than the standard AM1.5G. Notably, 100% of efficiency retained after polarization at −40 V in different stressing conditions is observed. The results presented suggest that standard industrial bypass diode schemes may be compatible with silicon/perovskite tandem photovoltaics and provide new guidelines for the standardization of the stressing protocols. The aim of this study is to quantify the impact of the effect of long-term solar cycle variations in solar irradiance on the accuracy and temporal stability of ToA reflectance values from Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+/L7) sensor images. We used 1382 ETM+ scenes corresponding to five Pseudo-Invariant Calibration Sites (PICS), obtained between 2003 and 2020. Solar irradiance data from the Spectral Irradiance Monitor (SIM/SORCE) were used to calculate daily values of mean exoatmospheric solar irradiance (ESUN), implemented in the radiometric correction of ToA reflectance. Enhanced temporal stability coefficients and variance tests were calculated to evaluate the stability of the time series obtained. The results indicate that the use of daily SIM/SORCE solar spectra has a significant impact (alpha <0.001) on radiometric correction and the accuracy of ToA reflectance values. In radiometric calibration, the percentage of top of atmosphere temporal stability that can be recovered based on 5 Sahara PICS ETM+/L7 scenes can exceed 0.75%, 0.50%, 0.39%, 0.45%, 0.30% and 0.25% in the blue, green, red, NIR, SWIR-1 and SWIR-2 spectral bands, respectively, and is not considered statistically significant (alpha >0.05). We concluded that considering the effects of solar cycles during the radiometric calibration of multispectral sensors contributes to improving the long-term stability of ToA reflectance products. Hydrogen (H2) has emerged as a clean and versatile energy carrier to power a carbon‐neutral economy for the post‐fossil era. Hydrogen generation from low‐cost and renewable biomass by virtually inexhaustible solar energy presents an innovative strategy to process organic solid waste, combat the energy crisis, and achieve carbon neutrality. Herein, the progress and breakthroughs in solar‐powered H2 production from biomass are reviewed. The basic principles of solar‐driven H2 generation from biomass are first introduced for a better understanding of the reaction mechanism. Next, the merits and shortcomings of various semiconductors and cocatalysts are summarized, and the strategies for addressing the related issues are also elaborated. Then, various bio‐based feedstocks for solar‐driven H2 production are reviewed with an emphasis on the effect of photocatalysts and catalytic systems on performance. Of note, the concurrent generation of value‐added chemicals from biomass reforming is emphasized as well. Meanwhile, the emerging photo‐thermal coupling strategy that shows a grand prospect for maximally utilizing the entire solar energy spectrum is also discussed. Further, the direct utilization of hydrogen from biomass as a green reductant for producing value‐added chemicals via organic reactions is also highlighted. Agarose/micrometer titanium dioxide (TiO2) beads were essayed to test the photocatalytic capacity of two of the most widely prescribed drugs worldwide: paracetamol and ibuprofen. Although the initial tests demonstrated promising degradation rates for both drugs, the presence of turbidity, due to TiO2 leakage, during the photocatalytic essays induced to improve the stability of the photocatalytic composites. Among the different strategies adopted to strengthen such materials, crosslinking with citric acid and the use of alternative gelling agents: gellan, agargel™, and agar were chosen. Composites obtained by merging both strategies were characterized and employed to degrade both drugs under a simulated light that mimics the solar spectrum (indoor). Considering the superior degradation rates obtained when agar and agarose were used to shape the titanium oxide particles (up to 70–75% of drug destruction), such composites were subjected to a more realistic experiment (outdoor): solar illumination, tap water, and higher volumes, that should facilitate its ulterior scale up as a real wastewater depollution procedure. When analyzing a narrowband signal, the Hilbert transform is often used, which makes it possible to describe the process through slowly changing functions: the envelope (amplitude) and, weakly dependent on time, the characteristic signal frequency—the "instantaneous" frequency. Based on the smoothness of these characteristics, one can evaluate the process and compare it at different periods. This approach was used to analyze the spectral components of a series of average monthly Wolf numbers. This description of the main and second harmonics, supplemented by the properties of the long-period component, gives a fairly complete picture of the entire series of monthly averages. The work examines the correspondence of the characteristics of reliable data, with this approach, to the accepted description in terms of the parameters of cycles (maximum of the cycle, duration of the cycle, and its growth branches) and constructs an "envelope" of the maxima of the cycles. The time dynamics of the instantaneous frequencies of the fundamental and second harmonics of the entire series are also presented, and significant differences in their behavior are noted in the intervals corresponding to the reconstructed and reliable parts. Computational analysis of triple absorber‐based solar cell structure is undertaken. This solar cell device configuration allows better utilization of the incident solar spectrum. Three different absorbers with a band gap in the range 1–1.5 eV are sandwiched between high‐doped p+ and n+ regions in descending order of electron affinity to form an energy‐matched multiple absorber device. A comprehensive analysis of key device parameters influencing performance, including band gap, conduction band alignment, interfacial defects, and thickness, is presented. The optimized triple absorber device shows beyond Shockley–Queisser limit (SQ limit) performance under the constraint of passivated interfaces with defect density below 1013 cm−2. Wide spectrum coverage leads to high short circuit current and an efficiency of 40.3%, which is higher than the SQ limit for single band gap solar cell. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solar energy, as a clean and renewable energy source, holds significant promise for addressing water shortages. Utilizing solar energy for water evaporation is seen as an effective solution in this regard. While many existing interfacial photothermal water evaporation systems rely on nanoparticles or graphene as photothermal or support materials, this study introduced polydopamine (PDA) as a photothermal material due to its environmental friendliness and excellent photon absorption characteristics that closely match the solar spectrum. Polystyrene (PS) was also introduced as a support material for its porous structure and density similar to water, enabling it to float on water. The resulting PS-PDA composite porous structure solar evaporator exhibited a photothermal conversion efficiency comparable to nanoparticles (over 75%), yet with lower production costs and minimal environmental impact. This innovative approach offers a scalable solution for water-scarce regions, providing a cost-effective and efficient means to address water scarcity. The Sun's history is still a subject of interest to modern astrophysics. Observationally constrained rates of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) of young solar analogues are still lacking, as those require dedicated monitoring. We present medium-resolution optical spectroscopic monitoring of a small sample of bright and prominent solar analogues over a period of 3 yr using the 0.5-m telescope at observatory Lustbühel Graz (OLG) of the University of Graz, Austria. The aim is the detection of flares and CMEs from those spectra. In more than 1700 h of spectroscopic monitoring, we found signatures of four flares and one filament eruption on EK Dra which has been reported in previous literature, but we complementarily extended the data to cover the latter phase. The other stars did not reveal detectable signatures of activity. For these non-detections, we derive upper limits of occurrence rates of very massive CMEs, which are detectable with our observational setup, ranging from 0.1 to 2.2 d−1, but these may be even smaller than the given rates considering observational biases. Furthermore, we investigate the detectability of flares/CMEs in OLG spectra by utilizing solar 2D Hα spectra from Mees Solar Observatory. We find that solar-sized events are not detectable within our observations. By scaling up the size of the solar event, we show that with a fractional active region area of 18 per cent in residual spectra and 24 per cent in equivalent width time series derived from the same residuals that solar events are detectable if they had hypothetically occurred on HN Peg. Focusing on the imperative requirement for materials possessing both high solar reflectivity and low cost, by utilizing the finite difference time domain method, the relationship between the fiber diameters and the solar reflectivity of TiO2 nanofiber membranes was simulated. The results indicate that, at a TiO2 nanofiber diameter of 300 nm, the material demonstrates optimal broadband scattering capabilities, yielding an integrated scattering coefficient of 2.462 within the solar spectrum; the solar reflectivity demonstrates a direct correlation with the thickness of the fiber film, and the membrane material exhibits exceptional sunlight reflection performance while the thickness of the fiber film surpasses 150 μm. By manipulating the electrospinning process parameters and duration of spinning, TiO2 nanofiber membranes with varying fiber diameters and thicknesses were meticulously crafted. The solar reflectance test findings of the membrane material reveal that when the mean diameter of the fabricated TiO2 nanofibers is 293.2 nm and the thickness of the membrane is 155 μm, the membrane material exhibits a substantial solar reflectivity of 94.50%. Multiple pieces of evidence have revealed the important role of turbulence in physical processes in solar eruptions, from particle acceleration to the suppression of conductive cooling. Radio observations of density variation have established a Kolmogorov-like spectrum for solar wind density disturbance. Close to the Sun, measurements from extreme ultraviolet (EUV) bands have been used to examine turbulence in the solar atmosphere. The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO/AIA) has been frequently used for diagnosing plasma properties due to its complex coverage of temperature response. We compute structure functions (SFs) using SDO/AIA emission measurements for two example of plasma sheets. With the relationship of v ~ b ~ δη and δΙ ~ δ(η0 + δη)2 ~ δη (v, b, δη, and δΙ are turbulent velocity, magnetic field, number density, and intensity, respectively, and η0 is the background density), SFs of δΙ can be regarded as a proxy for those of the turbulent vand b fields in the plasma sheet. We show that by properly accounting for the radial dependence of the emission line intensity, an SF method is capable of probing the presence of turbulence from SDO/AIA emission lines. Compared to ίη situ observations, performing SFs on EUV emissions is advantageous in studying turbulence behavior in the wave-vector space, and it opens a new window for investigating turbulence from massive SDO/AIA observations. We present new calculations of atomic data needed to model auto-ionizing states of Fe  xvi. We compare the state energies, radiative and excitation data with a sample of results from previous literature. We find a large scatter of results, the most significant ones in the auto-ionization rates, which are very sensitive to the configuration interaction and state mixing. We find relatively good agreement between the auto-ionization rates and the collisional excitation rates calculated with the R -matrix suite of programs and autostructure. The largest model, which includes J -resolved states up to |$n=10$|⁠ , produces ab-initio wavelengths and intensities of the satellite lines which agree well with solar high-resolution spectra of active regions, with few minor wavelength adjustments. We review previous literature, finding many incorrect identifications, most notably those in the NIST data base. We provide several new tentative identifications in the 15–15.7 Å range, and several new ones at shorter wavelengths, where previous lines were unidentified. Compared to the previous CHIANTI model, the present one has an increased flux in the 15–15.7 Å range at 2 MK of a factor of 1.9, resolving the discrepancies found in the analysis of the Marshall Grazing Incidence X-Ray Spectrometer observation. It appears that the satellite lines also resolve the long-standing discrepancy in the intensity of the important Fe  xvii 3D line at 15.26 Å. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Prochlorococcus marinus, the smallest picocyanobacterium, comprises multiple clades occupying distinct niches, currently across tropical and sub-tropical oligotrophic ocean regions, including Oxygen Minimum Zones. Ocean warming may open growth-permissive temperatures in new, poleward photic regimes, along with expanded Oxygen Minimum Zones. We used ocean metaproteomic data on current Prochlorococcus marinus niches, to guide testing of Prochlorococcus marinus growth across a matrix of peak irradiances, photoperiods, spectral bands and dissolved oxygen. MED4 from Clade HLI requires greater than 4 h photoperiod, grows at 25 μmol O2 L-1 and above, and exploits high cumulative diel photon doses. MED4, however, relies upon an alternative oxidase to balance electron transport, which may exclude it from growth under our lowest, 2.5 μmol O2 L-1, condition. SS120 from clade LLII/III is restricted to low light under full 250 μmol O2 L-1, shows expanded light exploitation under 25 μmol O2 L-1, but is excluded from growth under 2.5 μmol O2 L-1. Intermediate oxygen suppresses the cost of PSII photoinactivation, and possibly the enzymatic production of H2O2 in SS120, which has limitations on genomic capacity for PSII and DNA repair. MIT9313 from Clade LLIV is restricted to low blue irradiance under 250 μmol O2 L-1, but exploits much higher irradiance under red light, or under lower O2 concentrations, conditions which slow photoinactivation of PSII and production of reactive oxygen species. In warming oceans, range expansions and competition among clades will be governed not only by light levels. Short photoperiods governed by latitude, temperate winters, and depth attenuation of light, will exclude clade HLI (including MED4) from some habitats. In contrast, clade LLII/III (including SS120), and particularly clade LLIV (including MIT9313), may exploit higher light niches nearer the surface, under expanding OMZ conditions, where low O2 relieves the stresses of oxidation stress and PSII photoinhibition. Carbon nanotubes modified copper oxide nanocomposite (CNTs–CuO NC) selective absorbers were prepared through a sol‐gel method by varying weight percentage of CNTs and coated on aluminum (Al) substrates using a dip coating technique to form thin films (TFs). The surface morphology of CNTs–CuO NC TF examined by scanning electron microscopy disclosed linear arrangement of CNTs–CuO NC TF with average particle diameter of 200±30 nm. The X‐ray diffractometer analysis of the CNTs–CuO NC TF revealed the presence of CuO in monoclinic crystal structure. Moreover, the X‐ray diffractometer analysis disclosed good crystalline quality of the CNTs–CuO NC TF and average crystallite size of the CuO and CNTs–CuO NC TF was found to be 69.38 and 85.94 nm, respectively. The energy dispersive X‐ray spectrum of CNTs–CuO NC TF ascertained the presence of Cu, O and C elements with atomic weight proportion of 71.07, 21.61 and 7.32 %, respectively. The functional groups investigation by FTIR spectroscopy exhibited distinct spectral features of CNTs and the peaks observed at 516.78 and 588.70 cm−1 correspond to the characteristic vibrations of metal‐oxygen (M−O) bond that indicates the presence of CuO in the hybrid CNTs‐CuO NC TF. The optical property of the CNTs–CuO NC TF with CNTs weight proportion of 0.5 % inspected through UV‐Vis‐NIR spectroscopy exhibited high solar absorptance and thermal emittance values of 85.9 and 4.3 %, respectively. The observed highest solar selectivity value of 19.98 suggests that the CNTs–CuO NC TF coating can be apparently used as solar selective absorber. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Retrieval of atmospheric aerosol optical depth (AOD) has been a challenge for Earth satellite observations, mainly due to the difficulty of estimating surface reflectance with the combined influence of land–atmosphere coupling. Current major satellite AOD retrieval products have low spatial resolution under complex surface processes. In this study, we further improved the surface reflectance by modeling the error correction based on the previous AOD retrieval and obtained more accurate AOD retrieval results. A lookup table was constructed using the Second Simulation of Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum (6S) to enable high-precision AOD retrieval. The accuracy of the algorithm's retrieval was verified by observations of the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET). From the validation results, we find that among the nine Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) angles, the retrieved AOD has the best retrieved results with the AOD observed at the An angle (Taihu: R = 0.81, relative mean bias (RMB) = 0.68; Xuzhou-CUMT: R = 0.73, RMB = 0.78). This study will help to further improve the retrieval accuracy of multi-angle AOD at large spatial scales and long time series. The retrieved AOD based on the improved method has the advantages of fewer missing pixels and finer spatial resolution compared to the MODIS AOD products and our previous estimates. Context. Amongst several spectral lines, some of the strongest chromospheric diagnostics are offered by the Ca II H & K lines. These lines can be used to gauge the temperature stratification of the atmosphere since the line core and wings are formed in different regions of the solar atmosphere. Furthermore, the Ca II lines act as tracers for the magnetic structure of the solar atmosphere, as the line cores are formed in the upper chromosphere even though they are formed in non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE). In contrast, the formation of millimetre (mm) continuum radiation occurs under local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) conditions. As a result, the brightness temperatures obtained from observations with the Atacama Large Millimetre/Submillimetre Array (ALMA) offer a complementary perspective on the activity and thermal structure of stellar atmospheres. Aims. The overall aim is to establish more robust solar/stellar activity indicators using ALMA observations in comparison with classical diagnostics, such as the s index and infrared triplet (IRT) index. Methods. We employed the 1.5D radiative transfer codes RH1.5D and advanced radiative transfer (ART) to compute the synthetic spectra for the Ca II lines and the millimetre (mm) continua, respectively. These calculations were performed using an enhanced network atmosphere model, which incorporates non-equilibrium hydrogen ionisation generated by the state-of-the-art 3D radiation magnetohydrodynamics (rMHD) Bifrost code. To account for the limited spatial resolution of ALMA, we simulated the effect using a Gaussian point spread function (PSF). Additionally, we analysed the correlations and slopes of scatter plots between the Ca II indices and mm continuum for the original and degraded resolutions, focusing on the entire simulation box, quiet Sun regions, and enhanced network patches separately. The activity indices generated from these lines could further be used to compare the spectra of Sun-like stars with the solar spectrum. Results. We present a comparative study between synthetic continuum brightness temperature maps at mm wavelengths (0.3 mm–8.5 mm) and the Ca II activity indices; namely, the s index and infrared triplet (IRT) index. The Ca II activity indices and mm brightness temperatures are weakly correlated at the high resolution, with the highest correlation observed at a wavelength of 0.3 mm, corresponding to ALMA band 10. As the resolution decreases, the correlation consistently increases. Conversely, the slopes exhibit a decreasing trend with increasing wavelength, while the degradation of resolution does not noticeably affect the calculated slopes. Conclusions. As the spatial resolution decreases, the standard deviations of the Ca II activity indices and brightness temperatures decrease, while the correlations between them increase. However, the slopes do not exhibit significant changes. Consequently, these relationships could be valuable for calibrating the mm continuum maps obtained through ALMA observations. Data from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and the Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) instruments onboard the Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 satellite platforms are subject to contamination by cloud cover, with cirrus contributions being the most difficult to detect and mask. To help address this issue, a cirrus detection channel (Band 9) centered within the 1.375-μm water vapor absorption region was implemented on OLI, with a spatial resolution of 30 m. However, this band has not yet been fully utilized in the Collection 2 Landsat 8/9 Level 2 surface temperature data products that are publicly released by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The temperature products are generated with a single-channel algorithm. During the surface temperature retrievals, the effects of absorption of infrared radiation originating from the warmer earth's surfaces by ice clouds, typically located in the upper portion of the troposphere and re-emitting at much lower temperatures (approximately 220 K), are not taken into consideration. Through an analysis of sample Level 1 TOA and Level 2 surface data products, we have found that thin cirrus cloud features present in the Level 1 1.375-μm band images are directly propagated down to the Level 2 surface data products. The surface temperature errors resulting from thin cirrus contamination can be 10 K or larger. Previously, we reported an empirical and effective technique for removing thin cirrus scattering effects in OLI images, making use of the correlations between the 1.375-μm band image and images of any other OLI bands located in the 0.4–2.5 μm solar spectral region. In this article, we describe a variation of this technique that can be applied to the thermal bands, using the correlations between the Level 1 1.375-μm band image and the 11-μm BT image for the effective removal of thin cirrus absorption effects. Our results from three data sets acquired over spatially uniform water surfaces and over non-uniform land/water boundary areas suggest that if the cirrus-removed TOA 11-μm band BT images are used for the retrieval of the Level 2 surface temperature (ST) data products, the errors resulting from thin cirrus contaminations in the products can be reduced to about 1 K for spatially diffused cirrus scenes. Mimicking the characteristics and achieving specific functions of biological systems is stirring but challenging. Generally, pigments in the commercial coating can only achieve a similarity in chromaticity, while cannot obtain a similarity in the solar reflective spectrum whose difficulty resides in simulating spectral characteristics simultaneously. Unfortunately, traditional organic pigments show poor weather and heat resistance. Herein, with the little difference in the color difference (ΔEab*), the high spectral similarity, as well as adjustable green peak and similar red edge slope compared with the common plants (pagoda tree leaf, etc.) in 400–2500 nm, is also attained. It is achieved by the interlayer confined organic pigment in Mg/Al‐layered double hydroxide (Mg/Al‐LDH) layers. The corresponding biomimetic leaf displays high hyperspectral performance with a spectral angle cosine of 0.9922 and heat resistance at 120 °C. The longer weather resistance than that of mechanical mixing is also demonstrated. The intercalated chromophores of sodium copper chlorophyllin in the Mg/Al‐LDH and the interlayer confinement of Mg/Al‐LDH contribute to the excellent performance. This work provides a green pigment and a biomimetic leaf requiring the same chromaticity and spectrum as green plants, filling the long‐term use demand gap for heat and weather‐resistant biomimetic vegetation. This study proposed a solar thermal electrochemical photo (STEP) theory-based integrated device for highly efficient oilfield-produced wastewater (OPW) purification, combining photothermal and electric technologies. The major oil fields in China reaching the mid-to-late stage of high-water content extraction have substantially increased the amount of OPW, the complex composition of which makes degradation challenging. This research aimed to improve OPW treatment efficiency and reduce energy consumption and mining costs via innovative processes and integrated experimental devices. A solar five-field demulsification model was developed by combining filtration, distillation, condensation, and other processes using the solar STEP theory and incorporating the photocatalytic oxidation, thermal effect, electro-oxidation, air flotation, and flocculation derived from solar energy. The model enables the utilization of photocatalysts to harness solar power.and get the full spectrum energy hierarchical conversion utilization. The results showed that petroleum hydrocarbon removal was positively correlated with the environmental temperature and voltage. The device significantly improved the petroleum hydrocarbon removal rate at an optimized temperature and voltage. At 100°C and 3 V, the petroleum hydrocarbon removal rate reached 93%, confirming the efficiency and feasibility of the device in improving OPW treatment efficacy and environmental protection. The disposition of spectral solar irradiance in plant canopies is crucially important to understand processes such as photolysis of molecules amenable to absorbing actinic light. Thus, one objective of this study is to evaluate the most commonly applied radiative transfer approaches to estimate spectral irradiance as a function of plant canopy depth. Eight radiative transfer approaches are ascertained. Another objective is to determine the impacts of the spectral resolution assumed in radiative transfer calculations and model choice on key processes such as canopy absorption and reflection of irradiance. By comparing results from broadband‐only and spectrally‐resolved canopy radiative transfer, we aim to quantitatively determine the uncertainties associated with failing to resolve the sunlight spectra. We determine the optimal spectral resolution required to estimate canopy radiative transfer results such as air‐chemistry‐specific quantities related to photolysis of a select group of molecules. In addition, we evaluate techniques for binning leaf and soil optical properties. Results showed that high spectral resolution is ideally desired to compute photolysis of molecules such as ozone, nitrogen dioxide, nitrate radical, nitrous acid, and formaldehyde. For in‐canopy photolysis of molecules, a waveband resolution of at least 10 nm is sufficient to obtain accurate estimates for most photochemical reactions. Positive reaction‐dependent uncertainties in canopy‐mean relative photolysis values for individual molecules can be as high as 30% compared to estimates derived with broad‐band solar irradiance. Plain Language Summary: In regions dominated by tall and dense forest canopies, climate models need to resolve the vertical variation of sunlight to estimate assimilation of gases by foliage. Knowledge of sunlight disposition in forest canopies is also needed to determine light‐driven reactions of gases. Given that in‐plant canopy processes such as reactions of gases require knowledge of sunlight specified at high wavelength resolution, eight different radiative transfer models are considered to discern the most reliable approach to compute the disposition of solar radiation as a function of both canopy depth and wavelength. Results indicate it is necessary to estimate the in‐canopy disposition of sunlight as a function of wavelength to reliably compute dissociation of molecules susceptible to sunlight absorption. As part of the light spectra included in radiative transfer numerical models, a waveband resolution of at least 10 nm is necessary to reduce uncertainties of less than 30% of sunlight‐mediated dissociation of molecules such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide. The new approach developed in this study can be included in numerical modeling systems designed to investigate photochemical processes in vegetated landscapes. In order to meet the high uniformity calibration requirements for scientific-grade, large-size space detectors used in the CHES Extrasolar Planet Exploration Mission, this paper presents the design of a wide dynamic range, high uniformity spectral irradiance source (WHUIS). Utilizing a cascade integrating sphere design, and optimizing the overlapping area radiant flux adjustment structure and illumination light path, we achieve a wide dynamic range and high uniformity irradiance output. We established an irradiance transmission model based on the new assumption and analyzed the influence of factors such as illumination distance, stray light, and non-uniform radiance on the uniformity of irradiance output. The model is then validated by building experimental equipment. The findings show that in a circular area of 40 mm, the irradiance uniformity of our light source system exceeds 99.9%, and constant color temperature is adjustable within six orders of magnitude, consistent with the uniformity level predicted by the model. Utilizing quantum dot (QD) luminescent films as a greenhouse covering material is an innovative method of modifying the greenhouse light spectrum. The QD films convert a portion of high-energy ultraviolet and blue photons to lower-energy photons. Previous research has shown that the application of QD films in greenhouses led to improved crop yields of red lettuce and tomatoes. However, the underlying mechanism of the yield increases has not been fully explored. We quantified the effects of solar spectral shifts attributable to QD films on plant morphology, radiation capture, and, subsequently, crop yield. Green and red leaf lettuces and basil were grown in a greenhouse under four treatments: regular-concentration QD film (reg QD film); high-concentration QD film (high QD film); color-neutral polyethylene (PE) film; and control treatment without any films. Compared to the reg QD film, the high QD film converted a higher fraction of blue photons into longer-wavelength photons, resulting in enhanced leaf expansion, stem elongation, and shoot fresh weight of red lettuce and basil compared with those grown under the PE film without spectral modifications. No significant growth differences were observed between the control and high QD film treatments of red lettuce and basil despite a 23% reduction in the average daily light integral (DLI) under the high QD film treatment. Compared to that grown under the control treatment, green lettuce grown under the high QD film treatment had a similar total leaf area but reduced shoot biomass; this was likely associated with reductions in leaf thickness and chlorophyll content. In contrast, the red lettuce showed more pronounced leaf expansion and reduced leaf anthocyanin content under the high QD film, which likely helped to offset the reduction in DLI. Overall, our results indicated that modifying the solar spectrum with QD films as greenhouse covering material could result in improved crop radiation capture and yield in greenhouse production of lettuce and basil. However, the spectral shifts caused by the QD films may affect crop quality attributes, such as anthocyanin levels and the production of other beneficial secondary metabolites. In this article, the physical properties of Ge-based lead-free halide double perovskite compounds X2GeSnCl6 (X = Na, K) are studied in the framework of density functional theory by using the Wien2k code. Compounds show stability with negative values of ground state energy and formation energy. The band structure in electronic properties exhibits the semiconducting nature with 2.24 eV and 2.21 eV direct band gaps by using a modified Becke Johnson approximation which gives clear results of the band gap. On the other hand, electronic charge density exhibits the covalent band of Cl with Ge and Sn while the ionic bond between Cl and (Na, K). Optical conductivity is high and maximum output in the visible region of the solar energy spectrum along with maximum absorbance for both compounds while reflectivity is lower in the visible region which makes the compounds suitable for solar cell and opto-electronic applications. Using BoltzTraP classical theory in the thermoelectric property valuable results are observed with higher ZT values of K2GeSnCl6 with 0.99 which makes it a good candidate for thermoelectric applications. Both compounds are mechanically and dynamically stable with brittle nature; also covalent bonding nature is confirmed by Cauchy pressure with negative values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Light, as a critical environmental factor, plays a pivotal role in photosynthesis, ultimately influencing the timing of bud flush in tea plants. However, the synergistic effects of different photoperiods and light qualities on the timing of bud flush in the albino tea cultivar 'HuangKui' (later germination variety) remain unknown. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different photoperiods (12L/12D, 14L/10D, 16L/8D, and 18L/6D, where L = the number of daylight hours and D = the number of hours of darkness) and ratios of red (R) to blue (B) light (R/B 1:1, R/B 1:2, R/B 1:3, and R/B 2:1) on the germination and growth of the albino tea variety 'HuangKui'. In our study, we examined how different photoperiods and red light and blue light affected tea germination and growth by investigating the timing of bud flush, photosynthesis, chlorophyll content, and growth indicators. First, our study showed that 'HuangKui' germinated 4 days, 2 days, and 1 day earlier under the 16L/8D photoperiod at the one bud and one leaf period compared with plants cultivated under the 12L/12D, 14L/10D, and 18L/6D photoperiods under light simulating the solar spectrum. Also, the growth of 'HuangKui' was maximumly promoted under the 16L/8D photoperiod treatment. Additionally, the earliest germination of 'HuangKui' was observed for the 16L/8D photoperiod under the R/B 2:1 (red/blue) treatment compared with the other treatments. Moreover, the greatest plant height, length of the new shoots, and new leaf areas were detected in the albino tea variety 'HuangKui' under R/B 2:1. Moreover, the contents of auxin (indole acetic acid, IAA) and trans-zeatin (tZ) under R/B 2:1 were significantly higher than those under the R/B 1:1 and control treatments with the 16L/8D photoperiod. Additionally, the auxin-related expression levels of CsIAA13, CsGH3.1, CsAUX1, and CsARF2 under the R/B 2:1 treatment were significantly higher than those in the control. The expression of CsARR-B, a positive regulator of cytokinin-related genes, was significantly higher under the R/B 2:1 treatment than under the control treatment, while the opposite result was found for the expression of the negative regulator CsARR-A. Therefore, the R/B 2:1 treatment with the 16L/8D photoperiod was an appropriate means of timing the bud flush for the albino tea variety 'HuangKui', which may be related to IAA or tZ signal transduction. In recent decades, numerous studies have indicated the substantial role semiconductors could play in photocatalytic processes for environmental applications. Materials that contain a semiconductor as a photocatalyst have a semi-permanent capacity for removing harmful gases from the ambient air. In this paper, the focus is on TiO2. Heterogeneous photocatalysis using TiO2 leads to the degradation of NO/NO2, benzene, toluene, and other priority air pollutants once in contact with the semiconductor surface. Preliminary evidence indicates that TiO2-containing construction materials and paints efficiently destroy the ozone precursors NO and NO2 by up to 80% and 30%, respectively. Therefore, the development of innovative coatings containing TiO2 as a photocatalyst was in the foreground of research activities. The aim of this was for coatings to be used as building and construction materials, mainly outdoors, e.g., on building façades on high-traffic roads for the degradation of priority air pollutants (NOx and volatile organic compounds) in the polluted urban atmosphere. Though there are advantages connected with the application of TiO2, due to its band gap of 3.2 eV, these are limited. TiO2 is effective only in the UV region (ca. 5%) of the solar spectrum with wavelengths λ < 380 nm. Hence, efforts are made here, as in many research studies, to dope TiO2 with transition metals to increase its activity using visible light, which will extend its application to indoor environments. In our studies, experiments were conducted with 0.1% (w/w) and 1% (w/w) Mn-TiO2 admixtures, and the ability of the modified photocatalysts to degrade NO by both solar and indoor illumination was evaluated. The surface chemistry at the air/catalyst interface, governed by the photoelectric characteristics of TiO2 and the formation of reactive oxygen species with co-occurring redox reactions, is reviewed in this paper. The factors affecting the application of TiO2 for the degradation of priority air pollutants as single compounds or mixtures are discussed. We investigated, particularly, the degradation of mixtures of priority compounds at typical concentrations in ambient air and confined spaces. This is a realistic approach, because pollutants are present as mixtures, rather than as individual compounds in ambient and indoor air. Moreover, organic polymers as paint constituents were found to be the primary source for carbonyl formation, e.g., formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, etc., during the heterogeneous photocatalytic processes conducted on TiO2-enriched coatings. Materials engineering based on metal oxides for manipulating the solar spectrum and producing solar energy have been under intense investigation over the last years. In this work, we present NiO thin films double doped with niobium (Nb) and nitrogen (N) as cation and anion dopants (NiO:(Nb,N)) to be used as p-type layers in all oxide transparent solar cells. The films were grown by sputtering a composite Ni-Nb target on room-temperature substrates in plasma containing 50% Ar, 25% O2, and 25% N2gases. The existence of Nb and N dopants in the NiO structure was confirmed by the Energy Dispersive X-Ray and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy techniques. The nominally undoped NiO film, which was deposited by sputtering a Ni target and used as the reference film, was oxygen-rich, single-phase cubic NiO, having a visible transmittance of less than 20%. Upon double doping with Nb and N the visible transmittance of NiO:(Nb,N) film increased to 60%, which was further improved after thermal treatment to around 85%. The respective values of the direct band gap in the undoped and double-doped films were 3.28 eV and 3.73 eV just after deposition, and 3.67 eV and 3.76 eV after thermal treatment. The changes in the properties of the films such as structural disorder, direct and indirect energy band gaps, Urbach tail states, and resistivity were correlated with the incorporation of Nb and N in their structure. The thermally treated NiO:(Nb,N) film was used to form a diode with a spin-coated two-layer, mesoporous on top of a compact, TiO2 film. The NiO:(Nb,N)/TiO2heterojunction exhibited visible transparency of around 80%, showed rectifying characteristics and the diode's parameters were deduced using the I-V method. The diode revealed photovoltaic behavior upon illumination with UV light exhibiting a short circuit current density of 0.2 mA/cm2 and open-circuit voltage of 500 mV. Improvements of the output characteristics of the NiO:(Nb,N)/TiO2 UV-photovoltaic by proper engineering of the individual layers and device processing procedures are addressed. Two solar eclipse events in 2023 appeared to produce considerable enhancements in the thermospheric column density ratio of monatomic oxygen to molecular nitrogen (ΣO/N2) as measured by TIMED GUVI. We quantify potential sources for eclipse‐induced ΣO/N2 changes and find that the observed enhancements arise from the ionospheric O+ radiative recombination contribution to the OI 135.6 nm emission from which ΣO/N2 is derived. Variations in the solar Extreme Ultra Violet (EUV) and X‐ray spectrum, due to the difference between the disk spectrum and the coronal spectrum, are also considered but shown to have negligible contributions to the ΣO/N2 enhancements. After accounting for the radiative recombination contribution, we constrain the real thermospheric compositional change to the uncertainty level of the measurements of 5%–10%. These results are valuable for the interpretation of eclipse‐induced ΣO/N2 changes that will further first‐principle model comparisons and lead to a better understanding of the response of the thermosphere to localized variations in solar EUV and X‐ray forcing. In this paper, we model the measured ultraviolet emissions from O and N2 that go into the retrieval algorithm to understand why this increase in the radiance ratio occurs within the totality of the eclipse. There are two components to the O emission, the glow created by electrons (photoelectrons) that result from the ionization of the upper atmosphere and the glow created by recombination of ionospheric O+ ions. We find that the photoelectron source decreases significantly during the eclipse, but near the magnetic equator, the ionospheric recombination emission does not, which causes the retrieval algorithm to overestimate the ΣO/N2 column density ratio during eclipses. The observations and models are consistent with this explanation. This study describes the digitization and calibration of historically significant solar absorption spectra recorded at the Jungfraujoch International Scientific Station in the 1950s. Using a homemade Pfund-type grating spectrometer, these spectra were recorded on paper rolls to study the solar spectrum which was then used to compile a solar atlas between 2.8 and 23.7 microns (~421 to 3571 cm −1) that later contributed to the development of the HITRAN database. We now digitized these old spectra to make them available for atmospheric studies. Our approach involves image processing techniques, including colour masking for digitization and peak detection for accurate wavenumber calibration against a synthetic spectrum. We also developed a validation method by re-digitizing degraded FTIR spectra to the same resolution as the old spectra to evaluate the digitization accuracy. Furthermore, we studied the influence of line thickness on the digitization error. The number of spectra transformed into a machine-readable format is 108 (freely available for download), with an average digitization error of 1.55 % and a wavenumber shift standard diviation of 0.075 cm −1. These digitized and calibrated spectra now offer a valuable resource for atmospheric studies, providing essential historical data for atmospheric research. Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) are complementary sunlight collectors for photovoltaics (PVs). Emissive fluorophores embedded in a transparent waveguide collect solar radiation over a large area and convert it into luminescence directed to the PV cells that frame the waveguide's edges. Among various fluorophores, perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) show considerable potential for LSCs thanks to their wide size/composition/shape tunable broad absorption spectrum ranging from UV to near‐infrared, which significantly overlaps with the solar spectrum. They also feature high brightness with a photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 100% and ease of fabrication through wet chemistry approaches. In addition, PNCs can be engineered to minimize the absorption/emission overlap, which is the key to suppressing energy losses caused by reabsorption. Here, the structure and properties of PNCs and then correlate them with LSC performance is presented. The synthesis of PNCs using wet‐chemistry approaches and summarize the latest developments of PNCs‐based LSCs, categorized by the engineering strategies of PNCs and the design of the LSC configurations is critically reviewed. Finally, it is described major challenges and perspectives for future work, outlining the rational design, synthesis, PNC loading, surface engineering, and machine‐learning‐based tuning of PNC‐LSC. Development of nanoporous structures utilizing a single step of anodization technique is well recognized as a cost-effective and straightforward approach for several applications. In the current work, anodized alumina was developed with nanoporous structure by utilizing oxalic acid as an electrolyte with a continuous voltage of 40 V. The formed nanoporous structure was subjected to desalination application because of its high absorbance of broadband solar spectrum energy. The desalination setup consists of two solar stills namely conventional and modified. The developed structure is placed in the modified still to examine its performance. It was observed that the structure distributing heat to surrounding water by absorbing photon energy from the sun through the nanopores and giving an efficient pathway to the water vapours for developing effective desalination. The nanoporous structure having ~ 45 nm average diameter. Furthermore, the band gap energy of nanoporous structure was found to be ~ 2.5 eV (absorption spectrum fitting) and ~ 2.8 eV (Tauc plot). The nanoporous structure possess the visible light spectra in solar region which helps the band gaps of nanoporous structure to provide an additional supply of energy for generating more water to evaporate. Moreover, the Urbach energy of the structure is 0.5 eV which reveals less defects in the modified still. The overall distillate yield of modified still was increased to 21% in contrast to conventional. Water quality analysis was also carried out before and after the desalination experiments, and the results were within acceptable limits set by World Health Organization (WHO). The Greenhouse Gases Monitoring Instrument is based on the spectroscopic principle of spatial heterodyne spectroscopy technology and has the characteristics of no moving parts, a hyperspectral resolution, and a large luminous flux. The instrumental line shape function is one of the most important parameters characterizing the features of the instrument, and it plays a vital role in the system error analysis of the instrument's measurements. To accurately obtain the instrumental line shape function of a spatial heterodyne spectrometer during the on-orbit period and improve the accuracy of gas concentration retrieval, this study develops a method to model and characterize the characteristics of the instrumental line shape function, including modulation loss and phase error. This study employs the solar calibration spectrum in the 1.568–1.583 μm bands to conduct iterative calculations of the instrumental line shape function error model. After the instrumental line function is updated, the average relative deviation is reduced from 1.83% to 0.756% between the theoretical and measured solar spectra. Additionally, the average relative deviation is reduced from 7.049% to 2.106% between the GMI nadir and theoretical nadir spectra. The findings demonstrate that updating the instrumental line shape function mitigates the impact of variations in the spectrometer's instrumental line shape due to alterations in the orbital environment. This study offers a dependable reference for both the enhancement and oversight of a spectrometer's instrumental line shape function, along with an investigation of shifts in instrument parameters. This study assesses the efficacy of the Heliosat-2 algorithm for estimating solar radiation, comparing its outputs against ground measurements across seven distinct countries: the Netherlands, Spain, Japan, Namibia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and India. To achieve this, the study utilizes two distinct satellite data sources—Himawari-8 for Japan and Metosat Second Generation-MSG for the rest of the countries—and spanning the time between January 2022 and April 2024. A robust methodology for determining albedo parameters specific to Heliosat-2 was developed. During cloudy days, the estimates provided by Heliosat-2 generally exceeded the ground measurements in all of the countries. Conversely, on clear days, there was a tendency for underestimation, as indicated by the median values of the mean bias (MB) across most of the countries. The Heliosat-2 model slightly underestimates daily radiation values, with a median MB ranging from −27.5 to +10.2 W·m−2. Notably, the median root mean square error (RMSE) on clear days is significantly lower, with values ranging from 24.8 to 108.7 W·m−2, compared to cloudy days, for which RMSE values lie between 75.3 and 180.2 W·m−2. In terms of R2 values, both satellites show strong correlations between the estimated and actual values, with a median value consistently above 0.86 on a monthly scale and over 92% of daily data points falling within ±2 standard deviations. Radiative cooling textiles hold promise for achieving personal thermal comfort under increasing global temperature. However, urban areas have heat island effects that largely diminish the effectiveness of cooling textiles as wearable fabrics because they absorb emitted radiation from the ground and nearby buildings. We developed a mid-infrared spectrally selective hierarchical fabric (SSHF) with emissivity greatly dominant in the atmospheric transmission window through molecular design, minimizing the net heat gain from the surroundings. The SSHF features a high solar spectrum reflectivity of 0.97 owing to strong Mie scattering from the nano-micro hybrid fibrous structure. Direct solar-to-hydrogen conversion from pure water using all-organic heterogeneous catalysts remains elusive. The challenges are twofold: (i) full-band low-frequent photons in the solar spectrum cannot be harnessed into a unified S1 excited state for water-splitting based on the common Kasha-allowed S0 → S1 excitation; (ii) the H+ → H2 evolution suffers the high overpotential on pristine organic surfaces. Here, we report an organic molecular crystal nanobelt through the self-assembly of spin-one open-shell perylene diimide diradical anions (:PDI2-) and their tautomeric spin-zero closed-shell quinoid isomers (PDI2-). The self-assembled :PDI2-/PDI2- crystal nanobelt alters the spin-dependent excitation evolution, leading to spin-allowed S0S1 → 1(TT) → T1 + T1 singlet fission under visible-light (420 nm~700 nm) and a spin-forbidden S0 → T1 transition under near-infrared (700 nm~1100 nm) within spin-hybrid chromophores. With a triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion, a newly formed S1 excited state on the diradical-quinoid hybrid induces the H+ reduction through a favorable hydrophilic diradical-mediated electron transfer, which enables simultaneous H2 and O2 production from pure water with an average apparent quantum yield over 1.5% under the visible to near-infrared solar spectrum. Achieving direct solar-to-hydrogen conversion from pure water using solely organic heterogeneous catalysts is still challenging. The most rapidly expanding type of solar cells are the Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs), because of its high device performance, ease of synthesis, high open-circuit voltage, and affordability. Despite these advantages, the development of perovskite-based solar cells continues to be impeded by the issues with perovskite stability and the utilization of the hazardous heavy element lead (Pb). The study emphasizes on the bifacial structure that maintains the conventional absorber layer and electron transport layer (ETL) in the optimized PSC structure. This study employs SCAPS software for device simulation to comprehensively analyze how various parameters affect the performance of solar cells. Additionally, doping concentration variation in both ETL and HTL are explored. The simulation reveals that changing device structure from monofacial to bifacial significantly influences PSC performance, demonstrating that optimizing individual layers effectively enhances overall solar cell performance. The optimized structure achieves impressive PSC performance metrics through parametric analysis, such as voltage (VOC) of 1.18 V, fill factor (FF) of 82.24%, current density (JSC) of 27.12 mA/cm2, power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 27.90% for an incident solar spectrum from the ETL side, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.86% for an incident solar spectrum from the HTL side, the calculated bifaciality factor (BF) for this structure is 71.18%. Developing highly active materials that efficiently utilize solar spectra is crucial for photocatalysis, but still remains a challenge. Here, we report a new donor-acceptor (D-A) covalent organic framework (COF) with a wide absorption range from 200 nm to 900 nm (ultraviolet-visible-near infrared light). We find that the thiophene functional group is accurately introduced into the electron acceptor units of TpDPP-Py (TpDPP: 5,5'-(2,5-bis(2-ethylhexyl)−3,6-dioxo-2,3,5,6-tetrahydropyrrolo [3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-diyl)bis(thiophene-2-carbaldehyde), Py: 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)pyrene) COFs not only significantly extends its spectral absorption capacity but also endows them with two-photon and three-photon absorption effects, greatly enhancing the utilization rate of sunlight. The selective coupling of benzylamine as the target reactant is used to assess the photocatalytic activity of TpDPP-Py COFs, showing high photocatalytic conversion of 99% and selectivity of 98% in 20 min. Additionally, the TpDPP-Py COFs also exhibit the universality of photocatalytic selective coupling of other imine derivatives with ~100% conversion efficiency. Overall, this work brings a significant strategy for developing COFs with a wide absorption range to enhance photocatalytic activity. The effects of high irradiance on PSII activity, pigment content and gene expression in Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. hy4 mutant with cryptochrome 1 deficiency and wild type grown in light of different spectral composition (LDSC) were studied. A. thaliana wild type (WT) and hy4 mutant plants were grown for 20 days in white light (100 μmol photon/m2 s), then, the plants were grown for 3 days under red (RL), blue (BL) and green (GL) light at a ratio of RL : BL : GL = 4 : 1 : 0; 4 : 1 : 0.3 or only on BL, after which they were irradiated with HIL (4 h, 1000 μmol photon/m2 s). In all variants, HIL irradiation caused a decrease in PSII activity, which was most significant in the BL treatment in hy4. The most significant decreases in the contents of photosynthetic pigments, UV-absorbing pigments and anthocyanins under LDSC were observed only on BL in the mutant. Additionally, in all the variants, the transcript levels of genes encoding key antioxidant and involved in carotenoid and anthocyanin biosynthesis enzymes were lower in hy4 than in the WT. Moreover, in all the treatment group HIL induced the accumulation of zeaxanthin and a decrease in the violaxanthin. It is assumed that the mechanisms used to counteract oxidative stress induced by HIL include the accumulation of pigments such as carotenoids and anthocyanins, as well as the mechanisms of zeaxanthin-related nonphotochemical quenching and the quenching through the accumulation of β-carotene. Nanofluid-based finned collector designs have been explored to enhance solar spectrum utilization and thermal efficiency in photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) systems. Combining nanofluids with finned collector designs improves heat transfer processes. Over the past five decades, various research methods have been used to analyze system performance, including experimental studies, theoretical analysis, design modification, advanced technologies, and soft computing techniques. This research examines the impact of fin geometry on energy conversion of Water/Al2O3-based PV/T systems using 3D CFD modeling simulations using ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS Steady State Thermal software. This study found that the quadrilateral fin geometry produced the lowest PV temperatures, followed by each concentration's pentagon and triangle fin geometries. The PV temperature decreased as the electrical efficiency increased, with the quadrilateral fin geometry with 1% Water/Al2O3 fluid producing the highest efficiency of 12.83%. The amount of PV heat absorbed by the working fluid affects the output temperature, which causes thermal energy conversion to be inversely proportional to electrical efficiency. Pentagon fin geometry with 4% Water/Al2O3 fluid produces the highest thermal conversion of 22.28%. In addition, this study also found significant differences in results for the three fin geometries on the collector, but no significant differences for the six Water/Al2O3 working fluids studied. Highly porous light absorbers are fabricated based on polypyrrole (PPy)‐coated carbon nanotube (CNT). Carbon nanotube sponge (CNTS) or carbon nanotube array (CNTA) with three‐dimensional (3D) network structure is the framework of porous light absorbers. Both PPy@CNTS and PPy@CNTA composites exhibit excellent light absorption of the full solar spectrum. The CNTS and CNTA with porous structures have extremely large effective surface area for light absorption and for water evaporation that has great practical benefit to the solar‐driven vapor generation. The PPy layer on CNT sidewalls significantly improves the hydrophilicity of porous CNTS and CNTA. The good wettability of water on CNT sidewalls makes water transport in porous CNT materials highly efficient. The PPy@CNTS and PPy@CNTA light absorbers achieve high water evaporation rates of 3.35 and 3.41 kg m−2 h−1, respectively, under 1‐sun radiation. The orientation of nano channels in CNTA‐based light absorbers also plays an important role in the solar‐driven vapor generation. The water transport and vapor escape are more efficient in CNTA‐based light absorbers as compared to the CNTS‐based light absorbers due to the relatively short path for the water transport and the vapor escape in CNTA‐based light absorbers. The objective of this study is to create a planar solar light absorber that exhibits exceptional absorption characteristics spanning from visible light to infrared across an ultra-wide spectral range. The eight layered structures of the absorber, from top to bottom, consisted of Al2O3, Ti, Al2O3, Ti, Al2O3, Ni, Al2O3, and Al. The COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software (version 6.0) was utilized to construct the absorber model and perform simulation analyses. The first significant finding of this study is that as compared to absorbers featuring seven-layered structures (excluding the top Al2O3 layer) or using TiO2 or SiO2 layers as substituted for Al2O3 layer, the presence of the top Al2O3 layer demonstrated superior anti-reflection properties. Another noteworthy finding was that the top Al2O3 layer provided better impedance matching compared to scenarios where it was absent or replaced with TiO2 or SiO2 layers, enhancing the absorber's overall efficiency. Consequently, across the ultra-wideband spectrum spanning 350 to 1970 nm, the average absorptivity reached an impressive 96.76%. One significant novelty of this study was the utilization of various top-layer materials to assess the absorption and reflection spectra, along with the optical-impedance-matching properties of the designed absorber. Another notable contribution was the successful implementation of evaporation techniques for depositing and manufacturing this optimized absorber. A further innovation involved the use of transmission electron microscopy to observe the thickness of each deposition layer. Subsequently, the simulated and calculated absorption spectra of solar energy across the AM1.5 spectrum for both the designed and fabricated absorbers were compared, demonstrating a match between the measured and simulated results. Key long-lived greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, and N2O) are perhaps among the best-studied components of the Earth's atmosphere today; however, attempts to predict or explain trends or even shorter-term variations of these trace gases are not always successful. Infrared spectroscopy is a recognized technique for the ground-based long-term monitoring of the gaseous composition of the atmosphere. The current paper is focused on the analysis of new data on CO2, CH4, and N2O total columns (TCs) retrieved from high resolution IR solar spectra acquired during 2009–2022 at the NDACC atmospheric monitoring station of St. Petersburg State University (STP station, 59.88°N, 29.83°E, 20 m asl.). The paper provides information on the FTIR system (Fourier-transform infrared) installed at the STP station, and an overview of techniques used for the CO2, CH4, and N2O retrievals. Trends of key greenhouse gases and their confidence levels were evaluated using an original approach which combines the Lomb–Scargle method with the cross-validation and bootstrapping techniques. As a result, the following fourteen-year (2009–2022) trends of TCs have been revealed: (0.56 ± 0.01) % yr−1 for CO2; (0.46 ± 0.02) % yr−1 for CH4; (0.28 ± 0.01) % yr−1 for N2O. A comparison with trends based on the EMAC numerical modeling data was carried out. The trends of greenhouse gases observed at the STP site are consistent with the results of the in situ monitoring performed at the same geographical location, and with the independent estimates of the global volume mixing ratio growth rates obtained by the GAW network and the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory. There is reasonable agreement between the CH4 and N2O TC trends for 2009–2019, which have been derived from FTIR measurements at three locations: the STP site, Izaña Observatory and the University of Toronto Atmospheric Observatory. Early in history, societies utilize renewable energy sources in response to technical developments and external factors, which resulted in the development of hydropower, wind turbines, and solar PV, as well as their support through policies and agreements. The double ring covered disk resonator solar absorber (DRCDRSA) structures are examined over the spectral range of wavelength 0.2 µm to 2.5 µm (UV-FIR) with the help of finite element method (FEM) in this study. This design achieved effective solar absorption, surpassing 99% over the 0.46 µm band, 95% over 2.05 µm wideband, and 90% over the entire observed spectral range, with an overall average absorbance of 96.38%. In addition, the maximum absorbance is 99.9% with three pick values at the wavelengths of 0.34 µm, 1.35 µm, and 1.51 µm. This research includes a parameter optimization as well as the electric field strength and magnetic field intensity distribution over a three-dimensional solar absorber construction. The structure's angle-polarization study shows it is polarization independent, handles diverse angles, and maintains even absorption up to 60° across all wavelengths. In this study, we propose a wide-angle broadband solar absorber based on multilayer etched toroidal structure. It is composed of a top layer Ti, W, and Si3N4 multilayer material, a silica insulator, and a Ti substrate. The average absorption from visible to mid-infrared wavelengths is 94.2%. The absorption bandwidth above 90% absorption is 3092 nm, and the peak absorption is 99.9%. The absorber achieves a perfect collection of incident solar energy caused by the combination of the local surface plasma resonance at the top layer of this absorber and the propagating plasma resonance in the lower insulator layer. The results are verified by applying impedance matching theory. Then, the effects of different structural geometrical parameters, polarization angles, and TE and TM incidence angles on the absorption are discussed. In addition, this absorber captures solar energy across the entire solar spectrum. Finally, we demonstrate that the absorber has a solar thermal conversion efficiency of more than 90% in the temperature range of 100–900 °C. A new cost-effective radiometer has been designed, built, and tested to measure direct normal solar irradiance (DNI). The proposed instrument for solar irradiance measurement is based on an optical fiber as the light beam collector, a semiconductor photodiode to measure the optical power, and a calibration algorithm to convert the optical power into solar irradiance. The proposed radiometer offers the advantage of separating the measurement point, where the optical fiber collects the solar irradiation, from the place where the optical power is measured. A calibration factor is mandatory because the semiconductor photodiode is only spectrally responsive to a limited part of the spectral irradiance. Experimental tests have been conducted under different conditions to evaluate the performance of the proposed device. A vehicle-mounted solar occultation flux–Fourier transform infrared spectrometer uses the sun as an infrared light source to quantify molecular absorption in the atmosphere. It can be used for the rapid three-dimensional monitoring of pollutant emissions and the column concentration monitoring of greenhouse gases. The system has the advantages of high mobility and a capacity for noncontact measurement and measurement over long distances. However, in vehicle-mounted applications, vehicle bumps and obstacles introduce aberrations in the measured spectra, affecting the accuracy of gas concentration inversion results and flux calculations. In this paper, we propose a spectral data preprocessing method that combines a self-organizing mapping neural network and correlation analysis to reject anomalous spectral data measured by the solar occultation flux–Fourier transform infrared spectrometer during mobile observations. Compared to the traditional method, this method does not need to adjust the comparison threshold and obtain the training spectra in advance and has the advantage of automatically updating the weights without the need to set fixed correlation comparison coefficients. The accurate identification of all anomalous simulated spectra in the simulation experiments proved the effectiveness of the method. In the vehicle-mounted application experiment, 342 anomalous spectra were successfully screened from 1739 spectral data points. The experimental results show that the method can improve the accuracy of gas concentration measurement results and can be applied to a vehicle-mounted solar occultation flux–Fourier transform infrared spectrometer system to meet the preprocessing needs of a high number of spectral data in mobile monitoring.
