Abstract

As a substitute for perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) commonly used in the Chinese market, 6:2 chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl ether sulfonic acid (F-53B) has been used in the metal plating industry for over 40 years. It has been widely detected in the environment, wildlife and humans. Some studies have shown that F-53B has hepatocytotoxic effects, but the mechanism of its lipotoxicity has been less studied. We exposed the 5-month-old Chinese rare minnow to 0, 10, and 200 µg⋅L-1 F-53B for 28 d. Proteomics was used as a research tool to study the mechanism of lipotoxic effect of F-53B on the liver of Chinese rare minnow. Obvious dyslipidemia was observed after 28 d exposure, in the 200 µg⋅L-1 F-53B-treated group. Liver proteomic analyses revealed that pathways associated with lipid metabolism were significantly affected, with 19 up-regulated and 4 down-regulated proteins associated with lipid metabolism in the 10 µg⋅L-1 F-53B-treated group, 15 up-regulated and 9 down-regulated proteins in the 200 µg⋅L-1 F-53B-treated group, and 12 co-regulated proteins up-regulated and 2 down-regulated proteins in the 200 µg⋅L-1 group, as compared with the control group. The up-regulation of enzymes in fatty acid degradation, fatty acid oxidation, and fatty acid transport pathways were involved. At the same time the PPAR signaling pathway was involved in F-53B-induced lipid metabolism disorders, as evidenced by activation of proteins expression of all three isoforms of PPAR, leading to an imbalance in osteogenic/lipogenic differentiation. It was shown that F-53B could affect the PPAR signaling pathway and disrupt the lipid homeostasis of Chinese rare minnow, and the results could provide new insights for the study of the lipotoxic action mechanism of F-53B. Abstract

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), as a kind of typical persistent organic pollutants, are widely distributed in environmental media and cause varying degrees of harm to ecosystems and human health. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to understand the distribution law of PFCs in the environment of a specific area, and formulate standard limits suitable for China. The Yangtze River Basin is an important part of China's Yangtze River Economic Belt. It is a key area of Chinese economic and social development. To protect the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Basin is considerable critical for the green development of the Yangtze River Basin. This paper focuses on the existence condition of PFCs in the Yangtze River Basin, and summarizes their distribution and change rule in the upper, middle and lower water environment and sediments. In this paper, the pollution status of PFCs in the Yangtze River Basin and the progress of environmental benchmark research were analyzed, then the research demands of the formulation of environmental benchmarks for PFCs in Chana were clarified. Finally, this article puts forward suggestions for the future systematic research of Chinese PFCs environmental benchmarks and provides decision-making basis and reference for the potential ecological risk assessment and control of PFCs. 31. Effect of Light Gas Components on CO2Permeation through DD3R Membranes

Abstract

Membrane technology has emerged to be a promising alternative for natural gas upgrading. Zeolite membranes are attracting more and more attention because of the hydrothermal and chemical stability. However, the zeolite membranes are generally evaluated in the unary or binary CO2/CH4components, which is far from the real applications. Herein we investigated the CO2permeation through DD3R zeolite membranes under the presence of light gas components (e.g., N2, CH4, C2H6, and SF6). The CO2diffusivity was calculated by the generalized Maxwell-Stefan model for more insights on CO2transport. The diffusion of CO2molecules was slightly affected by the presence of N2, CH4, and SF6. However, the CO2diffusivity in equimolar CO2/C2H6was one magnitude lower than that of pure CO2component because of the strong competitive adsorption and slow diffusion of C2H6molecules. An empirical formula was proposed to predict the CO2diffusivity in the CO2/CH4/C2H6ternary mixture. The predicted CO2flux matched well with the experimental one for the mixture containing less than 15 mol % C2H6. This would provide a facile method to determine the required membrane area for multicomponent mixture separation.

Abstract

Data on reinfection in large Asian populations are limited. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the reinfection rate, disease severity, and time interval between the infections in the symptomatic and asymptomatic populations which are firstl infected with BA.2 Omicron Variant. We retrospectively included adult patients with COVID-19 discharged from four designated hospitals between 27 April 2021 and 30 November 2022, who were interviewed via telephone from 29 January to 1 March 2023. Univariable and multivariable analyses were used to explore risk factors associated with reinfection. A total of 16,558 patients were followed up, during the telephone survey of an average of 310.0 days, 1610 (9.72%) participants self-reported reinfection. The mean time range of reinfection was 257.9 days. The risks for reinfection were analysed using multivariable logistic regression. Patients with severe first infection were at higher risk for reinfection (aORs, 2.50; P  < 0.001). The male (aORs,0.82; P  < 0.001), the elderly (aORs, 0.44; P  < 0.001), and patients with full vaccination (aORs, 0.67; P  < 0.001) or booster (aORs, 0.63; P  < 0.001) had the lower risk of reinfection. Patients over 60 years of age (aORs,9.02; P  = 0.006) and those with ≥2 comorbidities (aORs,11.51; P  = 0.016). were at higher risk for severe reinfection. The number of clinical manifestations of reinfection increases in people with severe first infection (aORs, 2.82; P  = 0.023). The overall reinfection rate was 9.72%, and the reinfection rate of Omicron-to-Omicron subvariants was 9.50% at one year. The severity of Omicron-Omicron reinfection decreased. Data from our clinical study may provide clinical evidence and bolster response preparedness for future COVID-19 reinfection waves.
