The type-II Dirac fermions are characterized by a tilted Dirac cone and sustain exotic quantum transport phenomena. Here, we show the emergence of a type-II Dirac nodal loop in the SrVO 3 / SrTiO 3 quantum well structure by density functional theory calculations and symmetry arguments. When the spin–orbit coupling (SOC) is neglected, the unavoidable crossing between two t 2 g bands gives rise to a nodal loop in the Brillouin zone, which is protected by the mirror symmetry. Such a nodal loop is fully gapped by including SOC, which results in a large spin Hall effect due to large spin Berry curvatures. Our findings add the unexplored functionality to oxide quantum wells and offer a practical platform to explore the interplay between topological fermions and spin transport phenomena. Spin pumping from canted antiferromagnets is a cutting-edge topic in modern spintronics. The interest for fundamental and applied research that these materials arouse is related to their unusual structure, namely, with a small canting of the magnetic sublattices, which is explained by the presence of the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction. Through this effect, it becomes possible to experimentally study quasi-ferromagnetic resonance spectra and spin pumping in the range of tens of GHz at room temperature. In this paper, an experimental and theoretical investigation of spin pumping from an antiferromagnet with weak ferromagnetism, α -Fe 2 O 3 , is carried out. The conversion of the precession of the magnetization vector, excited by an alternating magnetic microwave field, into a constant voltage is realized using the inverse spin Hall effect in the hematite/heavy metal structure. Using a constant magnetic field up to 5 kOe, the resonant frequency of such a detector is tunable over a wide range up to 32 GHz with potential sensitivity reaching 10.1 μ V/W. Confirmation of the measurement of the spin current is the change in the sign of V sp when the polarity of the constant magnetic field alters. We believe that these studies will make a major contribution to the understanding of the physics of the spin-pumping effect from antiferromagnets and will also help in the development of devices for quantum technologies and next-generation communication technologies. Investigating the interplay between charge and spin conversion in two-dimensional (2D) materials holds significant promise for futuristic electronic applications. Through density functional theory, our study delves into the charge-spin conversion and spin density dynamics in the non-magnetic SnNBr monolayer under time-reversal invariance. The breaking of out-of-plane mirror symmetry and inversion symmetry, along with the presence of spin–orbit coupling (SOC) lead to a notable momentum-dependent spin band splitting or Rashba effect induced by the inherent out-of-plane electric field. Theoretical calculations reveal not only the presence of profound Rashba spin splitting but also the coexistence of intrinsic spin Hall effects in the SnNBr monolayer. Analysis of k-resolved spin Berry curvature sheds light on the origin of the substantial intrinsic spin Hall conductivity. Furthermore, our research highlights the modulation of charge-to-spin conversion and spin density accumulation through in-plane biaxial strains. Moreover, the variation in the Rashba parameter is correlated with the changes in the built-in out-of-plane electric field and microscopic atomic orbital contributions. These findings underscore the exceptional potential of the non-centrosymmetric SnNBr monolayer for advanced spintronics, spin-orbitronics, and piezo-spintronic applications, and serve as a catalyst for further experimental investigations. An exciton–polariton condensate is a hybrid light–matter state in the quantum fluid phase. The photonic component endows it with characters of spin, as represented by circular polarization. Spin-polarization can form stochastically for quasi-equilibrium exciton–polariton condensates at parallel momentum vector k|| ∼ 0 from bifurcation or deterministically for propagating condensates at k|| > 0 from the optical spin-Hall effect (OSHE). Here, we report deterministic spin-polarization in exciton–polariton condensates at k|| ∼ 0 in microcavities containing methylammonium lead bromide perovskite (CH3NH3PbBr3) single crystals under non-resonant and linearly polarized excitation. We observe two energetically split condensates with opposite circular polarizations and attribute this observation to the presence of strong birefringence, which introduces a large OSHE at k|| ∼ 0 and pins the condensates in a particular spin state. Such spin-polarized exciton–polariton condensates may serve not only as circularly polarized laser sources but also as effective alternatives to ultracold atom Bose–Einstein condensates in quantum simulators of many-body spin–orbit coupling processes. The combined influence of spin–orbit coupling and spatial inversion asymmetry leads to an enhancement of electronic properties, including Rashba spin-splittings as well as spin Hall effect. Recent research has shown the possibility to create two-dimensional Janus materials with inherent structural asymmetry. In this work, the structural stability, piezoelectricity, electronic properties, and intrinsic spin Hall conductivity of quintuple-layer atomic Janus Sb2XSX' (X, X' = S, Se, Te; X ≠ X') monolayers are investigated using first-principles calculations within the framework of density functional theory. They demonstrate relatively high in-plane piezoelectric coefficients ( d 22) and also possess out-of-plane piezoelectric coefficients ( d 31), which is due to the breaking of inversion symmetry in the crystal structure with the space group P3m1. Large Rashba parameters are obtained in Janus Sb2XSX' monolayers, especially high for Sb 2 S 2 Te (1.62 eV Å) and Sb 2 SeSTe (1.33 eV Å) due to strong spin–orbit coupling. Moreover, Rashba-like spin-splitting is also observed in the edge-states as well, which is highest for Sb 2 SeSTe with 2.17 eV Å. Furthermore, Sb 2 S 2 Te and Sb 2 SeSTe monolayers reveal a significantly high Berry curvature (65.59 and 61.05 Bohr 2), spin Berry curvature (− 118.4 and − 120.6 Bohr 2), and spin Hall conductivity (1.8 and 1.6 e 2 /h). Our results suggest that Janus Sb 2 S 2 Te and Sb 2 SeSTe monolayers could be an excellent platform for multifunctional electronic applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The photonic spin Hall effect has attracted considerable attention for its potential applications in precision metrology and spin-based photonics. However, the spin-dependent transverse shift arising from this phenomenon is considerably weak and poses a challenge in terms of detection. Here, we present a novel technique to amplify the photonic spin Hall effect by exciting the optical Tamm states through an Au-distributed Bragg reflector. Our approach involves optimizing the thickness of the Au layer and the spacing layer, as well as adjusting the Fermi energy of graphene. The result is a remarkable transverse shift of up to 18 μm in the horizontal polarization state. Furthermore, we introduce graphene into the Au-distributed Bragg reflector to enable dynamic control of the photonic spin Hall effect by manipulating the Fermi energy of graphene. The recent discovery of inherently stable two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) provides a unique platform for spintronic devices. However, its efficacy for electric detection by spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) has not been established yet. In this work, we report on SMR in 2D TMDs/ferromagnet heterostructures, i.e., PtSe 2 /NiFe (Py), whose magnitude reaches the maximum with bilayer PtSe 2. Notably, the SMR value in bilayer PtSe 2 /Py heterostructures undergoes a sign change with increasing Py thickness. For thinner Py samples, the SMR rapidly decreases with increasing Py thickness, eventually changing from positive to negative. In the case of intermediate Py thicknesses, the SMR consistently exhibits negative behavior. However, for thicker Py samples, the negative SMR values gradually decrease. This complex behavior is attributed to the dominant and competing mechanisms that contribute to SMR, including the spin Hall effect (or Rashba-induced effect) and its inverse effect, the orbital Hall effect and its inverse effect, as well as interfacial spin–orbit-coupling-induced spin-current-to-charge-current conversion. We investigate the photonic spin Hall effect of a linearly polarized Gaussian beam reflected on the surface of twisted bilayer phosphorene. The photonic spin shift depends strongly on optical resonance behavior, which is determined by the twist angle. The magnified spin shift near the Brewster angle is sensitive to the twist angle and can be fitted by numerical models. In particular, the spin shifts in the terahertz region of frequency are well within the current experimental detection precision. The Berry phase is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics with profound implications for understanding topological properties of quantum systems. This tutorial provides a comprehensive introduction to the Berry phase, beginning with the essential mathematical framework required to grasp its significance. We explore the intrinsic link between the emergence of a non-trivial Berry phase and the presence of topological characteristics in quantum systems, showing the connection between the Berry phase and the band structure as well as the phase's gauge-invariant nature during cyclic evolutions. The tutorial delves into various topological effects arising from the Berry phase, such as the quantum, anomalous, and spin Hall effects, which exemplify how these quantum phases manifest in observable phenomena. We then extend our discussion to cover the transport properties of topological insulators, elucidating their unique behaviour rooted in the Berry phase physics. In this paper, a whole new multistage refractive index sensor is proposed, which is based on the horizontal displacement of the photonic spin Hall effect. It is found that the angle of displacement is very sensitive to the diversification in the refractive index of the measured analyte, and the angle of horizontal displacement can vary by 12.5 degrees when the refractive index changes by 1. In addition, to further expand the function of this sensor, the multistage refractive index measurement by adjusting the Fermi level of the graphene is realized. Specifically speaking, when the Fermi level is 0.2 eV, the refractive index measurement range of this sensor is 2.2-3.2, and the sensitivity can be up to 7.5 degrees/RIU at this time. Eventually, the transformation of temperature and thicknesses of both the graphene layer and the layer to be measured in the two cases are respectively discussed, and the result is that this sensor has good temperature resistance and the stability of thickness errors in the engineering process. It can be said that the emergence of this new type of sensor will likely have broad application prospects in the measurement field, especially for some special cases of single frequency point work. Magnetic memory based on spin‐orbit torque (SOT) is a promising candidate for the next‐generation storage devices. Materials that generate out‐of‐plane spin polarization (σz) are highly desired and actively pursued as the SOT generator, due to its ability to achieve field‐free SOT switching of perpendicular magnetization. However, integrating σz into perpendicular magnetic tunnel junction for efficient data writing is not realized. Here, utilizing σz from antiferromagnetic spin Hall effect in Mn2Au, σz‐enabled field‐free SOT switching of perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions is realized demonstrating a magnetic memory with both writing and reading electrically. The tunnel magnetoresistance ratio achieves 66% with a critical current density of 5.6 × 106 A cm−2 at room temperature. Such field‐free fully SOT switching is further directly confirmed by domain imaging via magneto‐optical Kerr effect microscopy. In addition to enabling field‐free switching, σz is proposed to assist ultrafast and more efficient switching of perpendicular magnetization compared with conventional in‐planes ones, based on simulations. Antiferromagnetic magnons possess a distinctive feature absent in their ferromagnetic counterparts: the presence of two distinct handedness modes, the right-handed (RH) and left-handed (LH) precession modes. The magnon handedness determines the sign of spin polarization carried by the propagating magnon, which is indispensable for harnessing the diverse functionalities in magnonic devices, such as data encoding, magnon polarization-based logic systems, and quantum applications involving magnons. However, the control of coherently propagating magnon handedness in antiferromagnets has remained elusive. Here we demonstrate the manipulation and electrical readout of propagating magnon handedness in perpendicularly magnetized synthetic antiferromagnets (SAF). We find that the antiferromagnetic magnon handedness can be directly identified by measuring the inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE) voltage, which arises from the spin pumping effect caused by the propagating antiferromagnetic magnons in the SAF structure. The RH and LH modes of the magnon can be distinguishable when the SAF structure is sandwiched by heavy metals with the same sign of spin Hall angle. This work unveils promising avenues for harnessing the unique properties of antiferromagnetic magnons. Antiferromagnetic magnons have two distinct chiralities, left handed and right handed. Light-matter interactions have emerged as a new research focus recently offering promises of unveiling novel physics and leading to applications under nonequilibrium conditions. The quantized Hall conductivities predicted by Floquet theory assuming a Fermi-Dirac distribution however deviate from experimental observations. To resolve these puzzles, we consider the effect of nonequilibrium electron occupation to study the anomalous, valley, and spin Hall effects of a prototype monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide MoS2. We find that spin Hall conductivity can be effectively suppressed approaching zero value by linearly polarized light under near resonant excitations. In contrast, it is substantially enhanced by circularly polarized light, originating from optical selection rules and topological phase transitions. Besides, the quantized anomalous Hall conductivity is much reduced if nonequilibrium occupations of Floquet bands are considered. Quantum spin Hall insulators have attracted significant attention in recent years. Understanding the optical properties and spin Hall effect in these materials is crucial for technological advancements. In this study, we present theoretical analyses to explore the optical properties, Berry curvature and spin Hall conductivity of pristine and perturbed PbBiI using the linear combination of atomic orbitals and the Kubo formula. The system is not centrosymmetric and it is hosting at the same time Rashba spin-splitting and quantized spin Hall conductivity. Our calculations reveal that the electronic structure can be modified using staggered exchange fields and electric fields, leading to changes in the optical properties. Additionally, the spin Berry curvature and spin Hall conductivity are investigated as a function of the energy and temperature. The results indicate that due to the small dynamical spin Hall conductivity, generating an ac spin current in the PbBiI requires the use of external magnetic fields or magnetic materials. Realizing spin transport between heavy metal and two‐dimensional (2D) magnetic materials at high Curie temperature (TC) is crucial to advanced spintronic information storage technology. Here, environmentally stable 2D nonlayered Fe3O4 nanosheets are successfully synthesized using a reproducible process and found that they exhibit vortex magnetic domains at room temperature. A Verwey phase transition temperature (TV) of ≈110 K is identified for ≈3 nm thick nanosheet through Raman characterization and spin Hall device measurement of the Pt/Fe3O4 bilayer. The anisotropic magnetoresistance ratio decreases near TV, while both the spin Hall magnetoresistance ratio and spin mixing conductance (Gr) increase at TV. As the temperature approaches 112 K, the anomalous Hall effect ratio tends to become zero. The maximum Gr reaches ≈5 × 1015 Ω−1m−2 due to the clean and flat interface between Pt and 2D nanosheet. The observed spin transport behavior in Pt/Fe3O4 spin Hall devices indicates that 2D Fe3O4 nanosheets possess potential for high‐power micro spintronic storage devices applications. Using an effective low-energy k · p model on the frontier p x , y orbitals, we establish a general phase diagram of spin-valley locked band inversion by introducing a mechanical strain field into nonmagnetic honeycomb motifs with robust spin–orbit coupling and intrinsically broken inversion symmetry. Using first-principles calculations, we realize such multiple topological phase transitions in a strained InTe monolayer within experimental reach with the Weyl semimetal as the nontrivial boundary state at two critical strains. The massless Weyl fermions endow the spin and valley Hall effects with ultrafast and dissipationless transport over a broad low-energy window. The valley selective circular dichroism can be regulated by strain-induced band inversion. A crossover between the topologically trivial and nontrivial regimes with sizable bandgaps makes InTe suitable for room-temperature (RT) topological strain-effect transistors. Our work not only demonstrates a fundamental mechanism for exploring tunable topological states and valley physics but also provides a potential platform for realizing many exotic phenomena and RT quantum devices. Wave packets propagating in inhomogeneous media experience a coupling between internal and external degrees of freedom and, as a consequence, follow spin-dependent trajectories. These phenomena, well known in optics and condensed matter physics, are referred to as spin Hall effects. Similarly, the gravitational spin Hall effect is expected to affect the propagation of gravitational waves on curved spacetimes. In this general-relativistic setup, the curvature of spacetime acts as impurities in a semiconductor or inhomogeneities in an optical medium, leading to a frequency- and polarization-dependent propagation of wave packets. In this letter, we study this effect for strong-field lensed gravitational waves generated in hierarchical triple black hole systems in which a stellar-mass binary merges near a more massive black hole. We calculate how the gravitational spin Hall effect modifies the gravitational waveforms and show its potential for experimental observation. Current-induced field-free magnetic switching using spin–orbit torque has been an important topic for decades due to both academic and industrial interest. Most research has focused on introducing symmetry breakers, such as geometrical and compositional variation, pinned layers, and symmetry-broken crystal structures, which add complexity to the magnetic structure and fabrication process. We designed a relatively simple magnetic structure, composed of a [Co/Pt] multilayer and a Co layer with perpendicular and in-plane magnetic anisotropy, respectively, with a Cu layer between them. Current-induced deterministic magnetic switching was observed in this magnetic system. The system is advantageous due to its easy control of the parameters to achieve the optimal condition for magnetic switching. The balance between magnetic anisotropic strength and interlayer coupling strength is found to provide the optimal condition. In this work, intrinsic spin Hall conductivity of β‐W and its alloy with V has been theoretically studied by the combination of ab initio method with the tight binding method. Both two possible configurations of V in β‐W structure are fully considered and their total energy difference used to estimate the thermodynamic average SHC of alloy by using Maxwell‐Boltzmann distribution. It is found that due to the small total energy difference between two configurations, there is a significant contribution to the thermodynamic average SHC of the alloy from both configurations, which results in the average SHC of alloy being enhanced up to 12.3% compared with the pristine β‐W. © 2024 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC. An insulator‐based spin‐thermoelectric (STE) generator is composed of a thin paramagnetic metal (PM: Pt) layer for generating the STE voltage VSTE via the inverse spin Hall effect and a ferrimagnetic insulator (FMI) film or slab used for producing spin‐wave spin currents due to a temperature gradient ∇T$$ \nabla T $$. Yttrium iron garnet (YIG) is a key material used for the FMI of STE generators. We examined in detail the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) properties of YIG (Y3Fe5O12), Bi‐substituted YIG (Y3‐xBixFe5O12) and Bi‐ and Al‐substituted YIG (Y3‐xBixFe5‐yAlyO12) films grown by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE). Bi‐substituted YIG films exhibited the large FMR damping and high STE voltage when the films were incorporated in the STE generator. The LPE‐grown Y2.35Bi0.65Fe5O12 film exhibited the FMR linewidth ΔH of 30 mT and the VSTE of 70 μV for the ∇T of 90×10−3°C/μm$$ 90\times {10}^{-3{}^{\circ}}C/\upmu \mathrm{m} $$. This paper comprehensively presents the origin of the STE generation in the insulator‐based generators on the basis of the results of FMR and STE measurements. To clarify the origin of STE generation in the generators fabricated from single crystal YIG (YIG, Bi‐substituted YIG and Bi‐ and Al‐substituted YIG) films grown by LPE, three principal factors are explained: (a) thermal energy transfer from the phonon system to the spin system, which strengthens the heat excitation of spin precession, through the spin–orbit coupling enhanced by the growth‐induced magnetic anisotropy of LPE‐grown YIG films, (b) in the YIG films incorporated in the STE generators, the generation of spin‐wave spin currents owing its origin to the ferromagnetic spin exchange interaction acting between neighboring spins due to ∇T$$ \nabla T $$, and (c) how the spin currents pumped into the Pt layer from the YIG film at the Pt/YIG bilayer interface are affected by the magnetization processes of single crystal YIG films. Optically pumped spintronic terahertz emitters (STEs) have, in less than a decade, strongly impacted terahertz (THz) source technology, by the combination of their Fourier‐limited ultrafast response, their phononless emission spectrum and their wavelength‐independent operation. However, the intrinsic strength of the inverse spin Hall effect governing these devices introduces a challenge: the optical‐to‐terahertz conversion efficiency is considerably lower than traditional sources. It is therefore primordial to maximize at least their electromagnetic efficiency independently of the spin dynamics at play. Using a rigorous time‐domain treatment of the electromagnetic generation and extraction processes, an optimized design is presented and experimentally confirmed. With respect to the strongest reported spintronic THz emitters it achieves a 250% enhancement of the emitted THz field and therefore an 8 dB increase of emitted power. This experimental achievement brings STE close to the symbolic barrier of mW levels. The design strategy is generically applicable to any kind of ultrafast spin‐to‐charge conversion (S2C) system. On a broader level, our work highlights how a rigorous handling of the purely electromagnetic aspects of THz spintronic devices can uncover overlooked aspects of their operation and lead to substantial improvements. The conversion efficiency from charge current to spin current via the spin Hall effect is evaluated by the spin Hall ratio (SHR). Through state-of-the-art ab initio calculations involving both charge conductivity and spin Hall conductivity, we report the SHRs of the III-V monolayer family, revealing an ultrahigh ratio of 0.58 in the hole-doped GaAs monolayer. In order to find more promising 2D materials, a descriptor for high SHR is proposed and applied to a high-throughput database, which provides the fully relativistic band structures and Wannier Hamiltonians of 216 exfoliable monolayer semiconductors and has been released to the community. Among potential candidates for high SHR, the MXene monolayer Sc2CCl2 is identified with the proposed descriptor and confirmed by computation, demonstrating the descriptor validity for high SHR materials discovery. Centrosymmetric materials with site inversion asymmetries possess hidden spin polarization, which remains challenging to be converted into spin currents because the global inversion symmetry is still conserved. This study demonstrates the spin-polarized circular photocurrents in centrosymmetric transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors at normal incidence without applying electric bias. The global inversion symmetry is broken by using a spatially-varying circularly polarized light beam, which could generate spin gradient owing to the hidden spin polarization. The dependence of the circular photocurrents on electrode configuration, illumination position, and beam spot size indicates an emergence of circulating electric current under spatially inhomogeneous light, which is associated with the deflection of spin-polarized current through the inverse spin Hall effect. The circular photocurrents is subsequently utilized to probe the spin polarization and the inverse spin Hall effect under different excitation wavelengths and temperatures. The results of this study demonstrate the feasibility of using centrosymmetric materials with hidden spin polarization and non-vanishing Berry curvature for spintronic device applications. We investigated the spin Hall effect of Pt thin films deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using the MeCpPtMe3 precursor on c-plane sapphire substrates. We show that while the spin Hall conductivity of ALD-grown Pt is relatively low (0.2–0.6 × 105 ℏ 2 e Ω−1 m−1) for Pt film thicknesses less than 7 nm, it suddenly increases for thicker films, reaching 2.5–3.0 × 105 ℏ 2 e Ω−1 m−1. This behavior is attributed to the intrinsic morphology of Pt thin films grown by ALD on sapphire, where ultrathin films (<7 nm) contain small islands, while thicker films are smoother due to the coalescence of islands. Our findings underscore the necessity of growing continuous films when applying ALD-grown spin Hall materials in three-dimensional (3D) spin–orbit torque (SOT) devices. Spintronic devices require materials that facilitate effective spin transport, generation, and detection. In this regard, graphene emerges as an ideal candidate for long‐distance spin transport owing to its minimal spin‐orbit coupling, which, however, limits its capacity for effective spin manipulation. This problem can be overcome by putting spin‐orbit coupling materials in close contact with graphene leading to spin‐orbit proximity and, consequently, efficient spin‐to‐charge conversion through mechanisms such as the spin Hall effect. Here, the gate‐dependent spin Hall effect in trilayer graphene proximitized with tin sulfide (SnS) is reported and quantified, a group‐IV monochalcogenide that has recently been predicted to be a viable alternative to transition‐metal dichalcogenides for inducing strong spin‐orbit coupling in graphene. The spin Hall angle exhibits a maximum around the charge neutrality point of graphene up to room temperature. The findings expand the library of materials that induce spin‐orbit coupling in graphene to a new class, group‐IV monochalcogenides, thereby highlighting the potential of 2D materials to pave the way for the development of innovative spin‐based devices and future technological applications. We consider the anomalous, spin, valley, and valley spin Hall effects in a pristine graphene-based van-der-Waals (vdW) heterostructure consisting of a bilayer graphene (BLG) sandwiched between a semiconducting van-der-Waals material with strong spin-orbit coupling (e.g., WS 2 ) and a ferromagnetic insulating vdW material (e.g. Cr 2 Ge 2 Te 6 ). Due to the exchange proximity effect from one side and spin-orbit proximity effect from the other side of graphene, such a structure is referred to as graphene based 'ex-so-tic' structure. First, we derive an effective Hamiltonian describing the low-energy states of the structure. Then, using the Green's function formalism, we obtain analytical results for the Hall conductivities as a function of the Fermi energy and gate voltage. Although light‐matter interaction and topology of photonic systems have been extensively studied, the topology induced novel light‐matter interaction phenomena in deep‐subwavelength region remain unexplored. Here, based on the non‐trivial topological singularity of 1D photonic crystals (PhCs), novel photonic spin Hall effects and abnormal beam behaviors are revealed in deep‐subwavelength region for the beams with nearly normal incidence, which beyond effective medium theory. The huge photonic spin Hall shift (PSHS) is observed around the singularity in the deep‐subwavelength region. The shape of reflected beam undergoes dramatic changes near the singularity, especially at the singularity, the reflected field is split as dipole‐like distribution for both polarizations. Physically, such a phenomenon is resulted from the destructive interference between the spin‐maintained beam and spin‐flipped beam. Based on these theoretical researches, super‐subwavelength thickness detecting, in which the wavelength is six orders of magnitude larger than the detecting scale, can be designed. Such sensitive detecting can also be applied to dielectric permittivity of PhC and background. Further more, by tuning the distance between two singularities in the deep‐subwavelength region, multi‐frequency channels sensitive detection and broadband platform with huge PSHS can be achieved. Current-induced spin–orbit torque (SOT) has attracted much attention due to its potential applications in energy-efficient logic, memory, and artificial neuron devices. In this work, we report an enhanced SOT efficiency in perpendicularly magnetized Pt/Sm/Co/Ta heterostructures by inserting a light rare-earth Sm layer with large spin–orbit coupling. A series of Ta/Pt/Sm/Co/Ta samples with the Sm layer thickness (tSm) of 0, 0.6, 1.2, and 1.6 nm were prepared using direct-current magnetron sputtering. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, SOT efficiency, and current-driven magnetization reversal were characterized using electrical transport methods based on the anomalous Hall effect. The experimental results indicated that the switching field and magnetic anisotropic field decreased monotonically with an increase in tSm, while the damping-like effective field and effective spin Hall angle ( θ S H eff ) gradually increased. It demonstrates that interface modification with a Sm layer can improve the SOT efficiency and reduce the pinning potential barrier. Owing to the enhanced SOT and reduced pinning field, the critical switching current density (Jc) exhibits a steady decline when increasing tSm. In particular, the lowest Jc of approximately 7.83 × 106 A/cm2 was obtained when tSm was 1.6 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that electron transfer occurred between the Co, Pt, and Sm layers, which may be primarily responsible for the enhanced SOT by interface alloying to effectively strengthen the spin Hall effect of Sm and/or Pt. Vortex light, characterized by an intrinsic orbital angular momentum aligned with its propagation direction, is described through vortex electromagnetic waves. Similar to the gravitational spin Hall effect (SHE), vortex light is expected to exhibit intrinsic orbital angular momentum dependent trajectories and deviations from the null geodesic plane when propagating through a gravitational field, a phenomenon termed the gravitational orbital Hall effect (OHE). In this work, we model the vortex light as vortex Laguerre–Gaussian electromagnetic wave packets and analyze its motion by solving covariant Maxwell equations within the Lense–Thirring metric. Our findings reveal that the trajectory of vortex light with an intrinsic orbital angular momentum deviates from the null geodesic in two ways. It deviates both perpendicular to, and within, the null geodesic plane. This behavior contrasts with the gravitational SHE, where spin-polarized light primarily deviates perpendicular to the null geodesic plane. Moreover, the relationship between the deviation and intrinsic orbital angular momentum differs significantly from that between the deviation and spin. These results suggest a unique interaction between intrinsic orbital angular momentum and gravity, distinct from the spin-gravity coupling, indicating that the gravitational OHE of light might not be precisely predicted by merely substituting spin with intrinsic orbital angular momentum in the gravitational SHE of light. The photonic spin Hall effect, characterized by its polarization-driven spin-related displacement, has played an essential role in coding information processing. In this Letter, using a two-period double-layer dielectric plate, the displacement changes within the angle region are first observed, and a two-bit effective coding is achieved through non-uniform quantization of displacement values and coding. Afterward, by constructing Brewster angles (BAs), effective three-bit coding is achieved at the selected BA by dividing the angle domain. By changing the relative refractive index of the constituent materials (nB), effective coding is achieved at corresponding angles (45°–85°). By connecting two-bit and three-bit coding, a five-bit coding is fulfilled. By setting the last six invalid values, effective correspondence of 26 English letters is obtained. At the same time, the largest displacement peak itself is huge and varies accordingly with different values of nB. This work can provide some reference for designing optical coders. Recent theoretically predicted strong anisotropic spin Hall effect (SHE) or inverse SHE (ISHE) in chiral antiferromagnetic compounds Mn3X (X = Ge, Sn, Ga, Ir, Rh, and Pt) could potentially expand the horizons of the antiferromagnet spintronics; however, it has not been experimentally observed yet. For achieving this goal, we have first successfully fabricated high-quality Kagome phase Mn3Sn films with smooth surface by a combination of room-temperature magnetron sputtering and high-temperate annealing. These Mn3Sn films were proved to be epitaxially grown on MgO (110) single crystal substrate with a seldom reported ( 1 0 1 - 0 ) orientation that could serve as a good platform for the studies of the crystalline orientation-related anisotropic phenomenon. Then, by employing spin pumping-induced inverse spin Hall effect (SP-ISHE) voltage measurements, we have experimentally proved the existence of crystalline orientation-related anisotropic ISHE with an amplitude of more than 35% in our Mn3Sn films. Thin layers of ferromagnetic/non-magnetic bimetallic heterostructures have become the focal point of spintronics, primarily due to their capacity to convert spin to charge current, leveraging the spin- and inverse spin Hall effects. However, the interfacial properties and morphologies can significantly influence this conversion. Hence, we employed molecular dynamics calculations to model the construction of the Fe/Pt interface at various bilayer growth temperatures and Pt deposition rates. We then experimentally evaluated the modeling using x-ray methods to resolve the chemical and structural state of the interface. The calculations revealed moderate diffusive phenomena between the adjacent layers and an interfacial roughness of less than 1 nm, consistent with the experimental observations. In cases where plastic relaxation of the Fe/Pt interface is insufficient, lattice deformation is mitigated by a local pseudomorphic growth caused by transformation of the Pt crystal symmetry. Additionally, interfacial planar defects may emerge as a complementary stress-relieving mechanism to misfit dislocations. By combining the experimental and computational findings, we propose optimized growth conditions for an "ideal" Fe/Pt interface, which could serve as a useful tool to control the efficiency of spin-to-charge conversion. In this work, we study the electronic properties of nanotubes with spin–orbit interaction that exhibit a spin Hall effect. Nanoribbons made of these materials are expected to have topologically protected states. The lack of edge states in a seamless tube eliminates the possibility of finding a topological edge state. The spin–orbit interaction breaks the degeneracy of Dirac's cones and eliminates the chance of finding a metal nanotube. As a consequence, this makes all nanotubes with spin–orbit interaction trivial band insulators. We focus our attention on two features. First, we study the energy band gap as a function of the diameter of the nanotubes. Then, we concentrate on controlling the bandgap of a nanotube by applying an external radial electric field. Photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) of the transmitted wave presents promising applications in photonic spintronic devices, including inter-chip optical circuitry and quantum computing devices. These applications can benefit from phenomena such as the photon tunneling effect, frustrated total internal reflection, and the resonant optical tunneling effect. However, the mechanisms for enhancing PSHE of the transmitted wave are limited. In this study, an alternative strategy is proposed, which involves the utilization of topological edge states to enhance PSHE without relying on the aforementioned means. To demonstrate this effect, a heterostructure is designed, comprising two one-dimensional photonic crystals (PhCs) and a monolayer graphene. By leveraging the topological edge state, a significant enhancement of PSHE in the transmitted wave is observed, surpassing several times the incident wavelength. Furthermore, it is shown that the enhanced PSHE can be controlled and fine-tuned by adjusting the Fermi energy of monolayer graphene and the repetition numbers of the two PhCs. The enhanced and controlled PSHE in this heterostructure introduces possibilities for the development of novel optical components, such as switches, filters, modulators, and sensors. We study the W/Cu multilayers as a spin current source and the coherent spin–orbit torques in a Fe layer using the spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance (STFMR) technique. With increasing numbers of layers, the line shape of the STFMR signals changes from predominantly antisymmetric to predominantly symmetric. When using [W(0.5)/Cu(0.5)]5 as a spin current source, the symmetric amplitude increases by a factor of 5 compared to a single W layer. Simultaneously, the effective damping parameter also increases slightly due to enhanced spin pumping. Along with an increasing trend in the damping-like torque efficiency, this suggests that the extrinsic spin Hall effect is enhanced. Concurrently, the antisymmetric amplitude decreases significantly by a factor of 27, which indicates an increase in the field-like torque when multilayers are used as a spin current source. This approach will be an important development in the field of magneto-optics, as it can lead to enhanced transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect in the present of surface plasmon polaritons. The proposed nanostructure consists of a ferromagnetic film adjacent to a heavy metal layer, both sandwiched between two noble metal films, and deposited on a dielectric prism. The strength of the Kerr signal strongly depends on the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer, with the maximum effect observed at a thickness of 5nm. To date, the photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) has been studied and observed only in the space and momentum domains. Direct observation of the PSHE in the wavelength domain remains unexplored. In this work, we demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally the enhanced PSHE in the wavelength domain via a helical long-period fiber grating (HLPG), where the spin-dependent dual-split in the transmission spectrum of the utilized HLPG has been observed. This is unlike the PSHEs reported thus far, where a mono-splitting of the light is observed in either the space or the momentum domains. The proposed method provides an additional degree of freedom to observe the PSHE, which paves the way for exploiting all fiber-based HLPGs in chiral photonics, chiral sensors, and fine precise measurements. Nonreciprocal magnetotransport is one of the central topics in spintronics because of its importance for electrically probing magnetic information. Among numerous electrical probes used to read magnetic orders, unidirectional magnetoresistance (UMR), characterized by sign changes upon reversal of either current or magnetization, is currently a matter of great interest and has been identified in various spin–orbit-coupled bilayer systems composed of an (anti)ferromagnetic layer and a nonmagnetic layer with strong spin Hall effect. A recent theoretical work predicts that a spin-anomalous-Hall (SAH) UMR in those metallic conducting bilayers can originate from the spin-anomalous-Hall effect of the ferromagnetic layer and the structural inversion asymmetry. However, this type of UMR has not been reported experimentally. Here, we give the experimental evidence of spin-anomalous-Hall UMR in the light-metal/ferromagnetic-metal Cu/Co bilayers, where the emergence of net nonequilibrium spin density is attributed to the interfacial spin leakage asymmetry due to the spin memory loss effect at the Cu/Co interface and multiple spin reflections. We also show a highly tunable UMR in the Cu/Co/CuOx trilayer by varying the Cu thickness, which is due to the competition between the orbital Rashba effect in Co/CuOx and the spin-anomalous-Hall effect in Cu/Co. Orbital currents in light metals or metal oxides without the strong spin–orbit coupling have become an important means to achieve low-power magnetization switching in spin–orbitronic devices. The orbital magnetoresistance (OMR) originated from orbital current represents a useful strategy to explore the interaction between the orbital angular momentum (OAM) and the local magnetic moment. However, systematic research works on the enhancement of OMR and the mechanism of OAM transport are seldom reported. In this study, we report a synergistically enhanced magnetoresistance effect induced by spin and orbital currents in perpendicularly magnetized Pt/Co/Cu–CuOx systems. A maximum room temperature magnetoresistance of 0.38% was observed, exceeding the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) of heavy metal-based heterostructures by one order of magnitude. The enhancement of magnetoresistance is attributed to the contributions from the OMR generated by the orbital Rashba effect at the Cu/CuOx interface and SMR induced by the spin Hall effect in heavy metal Pt. These results provide a pathway to understanding of the OAM transport in magnetic multilayer films and contribute to the design and realization of energy-efficient spin–orbitronic devices. The refractive index (RI) of biological tissues is a fundamental material parameter that characterizes how light interacts with tissues, making accurate measurement of RI crucial for biomedical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. A Janus sensor (JBS) is designed in this paper, and the photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) is used to detect subtle changes in RI in biological tissues. The asymmetric arrangement of the dielectric layers breaks spatial parity symmetry, resulting in significantly different PSHE displacements during the forward and backward propagation of electromagnetic waves, thereby realizing the Janus effect. The designed JBS can detect the RI range of 1.3~1.55 RIU when electromagnetic waves are incident along the +z-axis, with a sensitivity of 96.29°/refractive index unit (RIU). In the reverse direction, blood glucose concentrations are identified by the JBS, achieving a sensitivity of 18.30°/RIU. Detecting different RI range from forward and backward scales not only overcomes the limitation that single-scale sensors can only detect a single RI range, but also provides new insights and applications for optical biological detection through high-sensitivity, label-free and non-contact detection. We investigate emergent conductive phenomena triggered by collinear antiferromagnetic orderings. We show that an up-down-zero spin configuration in a triangle cluster leads to linear and nonlinear spin conductivities even without the relativistic spin–orbit coupling; the linear spin conductivity is Drude-type, while the nonlinear spin conductivity has Hall-type characterization. We demonstrate the emergence of both spin conductivities in a breathing kagome system consisting of a triangle cluster. The nonlinear spin conductivity becomes larger than the linear one when the Fermi level lies near the region where a small partial band gap opens. Manipulation of the magnetization by spin‐orbit torque (SOT) stands as a crucial advancement in spintronics due to its merits in energy‐efficient and high‐speed operation. However, the conventional SOT devices involving a heavy metal/ferromagnet cannot deterministically switch the perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnet without an external magnetic field, which hinders its practical implementation. Here, room temperature field‐free switching for perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnets is demonstrated using spin currents with the out‐of‐plane spin polarization induced by noncollinear antiferromagnets L12‐Mn3Ir. Both in‐plane and out‐of‐plane spin polarizations are observed, and the tilting angle of the spin polarization is estimated to be ≈10°. The spin Hall conductivity of out‐of‐plane spin is 1.43 × 104 ћ/2e·Ω−1m−1, which is the largest among several 2D and antiferromagnetic materials, including WTe2, RuO2, and Mn3GaN. Furthermore, field‐free SOT switching is demonstrated with an ns‐current pulse, and the current density is comparable with the reported values of the field‐assisted pulse switching. The electronic structure of silicene supported by monolayer of different monochalcogenide MX (GaS, GaSe, GaTe and InSe) substrates has been investigated by first principle density functional theory. By calculating the formation energies and phonons, it has been seen that silicene supported by monolayer of MX remains stable. The systems retain their almost 2 D planner configurations with small buckling as that of the free standing silicene and also the Bader charge analysis shows that silicene hardly interacts with any of the MX substrates. The Dirac cone with a small gap (∼ 3 0 – 5 0   meV) has been observed in each of the cases. All the systems show quantum spin Hall effect and the quantum spin Hall conductivities have been estimated to be within the range ∼ 2 − 5 ℏ e S/cm, which are larger than that of the free standing silicene. Our calculations show that even if the systems have bulk band gaps but the edge states are conducting in nature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Canted antiferromagnets offer great potential in fundamental research and for use in applications due to their unique properties. The presence of the Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI) leads to the existence of a weak ferromagnetic moment at room temperature. We study both theoretically and experimentally microwave spin pumping by a quasi-ferromagnetic mode from a canted easy plane antiferromagnet with weak ferromagnetism FeBO3. The conversion of a microwave signal into a constant voltage is realized using the inverse spin Hall effect in an iron borate/heavy metal heterostructure. We use an additional bias magnetic field to selectively tune the resonance frequency of such a microwave detector over a wide range up to 43.5 GHz with a potential sensitivity near 2.5 µ V W−1. We confirm the pure spin current nature by changing the polarity of the detected via inverse spin Hall effect voltage by switching the direction of the bias magnetic field. The thermo-spin conversion provides new concepts for further developing the green energy-harvesting technology because spin can be controlled with minimal energy in nanostructures. Through theoretical analysis of thermo-spin generation, transportation and conversion in ferromagnet/non-ferromagnet/heavy metal (FM/NM/HM) vertical structures, we found that the output transverse thermo-spin voltage is independent of the structure's width, but varies linearly with the structure's length. To validate our predictions, we fabricated the thermo-spin devices with a CoFeAl/Cu/Pt structure. The entanglement of the momentum of light with its spin at interfaces or inside structured media, known as the photonic spin‐Hall effect, holds great promise for various applications, such as beam splitting, focusing, and polarization detection. However, the photonic spin‐Hall effect remains unexplored in the field of logic operation. In this work, the photonic spin‐Hall effect of spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) in programmable metamaterial is demonstrated. Moreover, photonic spin‐Hall logic devices based on programmable spoof plasmonic metamaterial are designed, enabling the control of energy flow through the utilization of both spin and digital coding, with examples including SSPPs logic gates such as the "AND" gate, the "NIMPLY" gate (A AND NOT B), the "OR" gate, and the "NOT" gate. The findings introduce the combination of digital coding metamaterial with the photonic spin Hall effect, which offers a powerful and flexible platform for controlling electromagnetic waves in information processing. The spin Hall effect of light, a phenomenon characterized by the transverse and spin dependent splitting of light at an optical interface, is highly promising for collecting precise quantitative data from interfaces and stands as an appealing option for improving precision metrology. This high level of precision is attributed to the principles of weak measurement. Since its conceptual introduction, the spin Hall effect of light has been empirically observed through weak measurement techniques, adhering closely to the initially proposed experimental configuration. Recently, it has been suggested that the setup can be downsized without compromising precision. Here, the first experimental demonstration of "compact weak measurement" is achieved by observing the spin Hall effect of both reflected and refracted light. Compared to the conventional weak measurement, this compact setup performs the same measurements but requires less free space by replacing the two convex lenses with a set of concave and convex lenses. The compact weak measurement demonstrates excellent agreement with theoretical predictions and experimental findings from traditional setups across both isotropic–isotropic and isotropic–anisotropic interfaces.
