Abstract

The article presents a study that deals with the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains ST398 in food in Spain. Included in the study were 318 raw food samples of food-producing animals which were collected from November 2007 to March 2009 in La Rioja, Spain. Based on their findings, the authors found the presence of MRSA in 1.6 percent of meat samples in the study. Despite the low percentage detection, the authors stressed the importance of monitoring due to the reason that it might spread.
