Many controversies in statistics are due primarily or solely to poor quality control in journals, bad statistical textbooks, bad teaching, unclear writing, and lack of knowledge of the historical literature. One way to improve the practice of statistics and resolve these issues is to do what initiators of the 2016 ASA statement did: take one issue at a time, have extensive discussions about the issue among statisticians of diverse backgrounds and perspectives and eventually develop and publish a broadly supported consensus on that issue. Upon completion of this task, we then move on to deal with another core issue in the same way. We propose as the next project a process that might lead quickly to a strong consensus that the term "statistically significant" and all its cognates and symbolic adjuncts be disallowed in the scientific literature except where focus is on the history of statistics and its philosophies and methodologies. The foam-drainage equation is a model for the drainage of liquid in a foam. In this work, we present two different types of interaction solutions of the foam-drainage equation both analytically and graphically, including soliton-hyperbolic tangent wave and soliton-cotangent wave. Scour is a natural phenomenon in rivers caused by the erosive action of the flowing water on the bed and banks. Spur dikes are constructed across the flow to protect the bank from erosion by shifting of the river away from the bank. The spur dike undermines due to river-bed erosion and scouring, which is generally recognized as the main cause of spur dike failure. In this study, accuracy of existing equations for the computation of maximum scour depth has been checked with available data in the literature and data collected in the present study using graphical and statistical performance indices. Three new relationships are also proposed to estimate the maximum scour depth and maximum scour length upstream and downstream of spur dike. Rankings of scholarly journals based on citation data are often met with scepticism by the scientific community. Part of the scepticism is due to disparity between the common perception of journals' prestige and their ranking based on citation counts. A more serious concern is the inappropriate use of journal rankings to evaluate the scientific influence of researchers. The paper focuses on analysis of the table of cross-citations among a selection of statistics journals. Data are collected from theWeb of Science database published by Thomson Reuters. Our results suggest that modelling the exchange of citations between journals is useful to highlight the most prestigious journals, but also that journal citation data are characterized by considerable heterogeneity, which needs to be properly summarized. Inferential conclusions require care to avoid potential overinterpretation of insignificant differences between journal ratings. Comparison with published ratings of institutions from the UK's research assessment exercise shows strong correlation at aggregate level between assessed research quality and journal citation 'export scores' within the discipline of statistics. This article discusses the history and highlights of the Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics ( JCGS) as the journal approaches its 25th anniversary. A unique venture between three organizations-the American Statistical Association ( ASA), the Institute of Mathematical Statistics ( IMS), and the Interface Foundation of North America ( IFNA)- JCGS has come to occupy an important niche in the statistical literature and establish itself as a forward-thinking, high-quality journal in its area. In addition to its contributions to the statistical literature, JCGS has often served as the test-bed for new ideas and methods of publishing and delivery, each of which has presented challenges. But with every obstacle, the three partner organizations have risen to the occasion, supported the journal, and ensured that JCGS not only succeeds but thrives. We will take the reader through an undoubtedly incomplete, but hopefully informative history of JCGS from planning stages to inception and growth, with highlights and innovations presented along the way.
