AbstractThis study explores the phenomenon of memorial stickers commemorating victims of the October 7, 2023, massacre and subsequent Israel-Hamas war. Analyzing 600 stickers collected across Israel, we examine how these artifacts shape personal and collective memory of these tragic events. Using content analysis, visual data analysis, and ethnography of texts, we investigate the stickers’ distribution, textual content, and visual elements. Three key findings emerged: (1) The widespread distribution of stickers expands commemoration beyond cemeteries, creating a larger community of remembrance; (2) Diverse textual content, from personal traits to universal messages, aims to keep the deceased’s values alive in social awareness; (3) Visual elements balance public recognition with private mourning through strategic use of photographs, colors, and barcodes. Drawing on theories of collective memory and continuing bonds, we argue that these stickers symbolically bring the deceased into daily life and public spaces, contributing to the processing of personal and national trauma. The article approaches belonging using the conceptual tool of urban imaginary to demonstrate how a certain place can be represented in different ways, offering different scenarios for the emergence, explanation, and experience of belonging. Urban politics in St. Petersburg and Russia, in general, generate controversial imaginaries of the city and attach different meanings to belonging, forcing street artists to strike a balance between the hegemonic structures of governance and capitalism, local (national) and global (western), rebellion, and dependency, notably, to fulfill their ideas of belonging. Using sticker artists in St. Petersburg, based on ethnographic data, the article shows how young people assimilate several urban imaginaries and, following the logic inherent in each of these, position themselves and their activity in the city. Sticker artists are described as urban agents, who, by participating in place-making and transforming urban space using stickers, find their subjectivity and opportunities to wield microscale power. Recent studies have demonstrated that finely tuned deep neural networks (DNNs) are susceptible to adversarial attacks. Conventional physical attacks employ stickers as perturbations, achieving robust adversarial effects but compromising stealthiness. Recent innovations utilise light beams, such as lasers and projectors, for perturbation generation, allowing for stealthy physical attacks at the expense of robustness. In pursuit of implementing both stealthy and robust physical attacks, the authors present an adversarial catoptric light (AdvCL). This method leverages the natural phenomenon of catoptric light to generate perturbations that are both natural and stealthy. AdvCL first formalises the physical parameters of catoptric light and then optimises these parameters using a genetic algorithm to derive the most adversarial perturbation. Finally, the perturbations are deployed in the physical scene to execute stealthy and robust attacks. The proposed method is evaluated across three dimensions: effectiveness, stealthiness, and robustness. Quantitative results obtained in simulated environments demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method, achieving an attack success rate of 83.5%, surpassing the baseline. The authors utilise common catoptric light as a perturbation to enhance the method's stealthiness, rendering physical samples more natural in appearance. Robustness is affirmed by successfully attacking advanced DNNs with a success rate exceeding 80% in all cases. The effect of sticker thickness on final moisture content (MC) of southern pine lumber was investigated in this work. Three kiln charges of lumber were dried to examine the impact of sticker thickness. Sticker thicknesses were 0.75-, 1.00-, and 1.25-in. The moisture contents at different locations within the kiln pack (edge vs middle / course position) were noted. Three course positions were top 5, middle, and bottom 5 courses. Two within-pack locations were considered: outer 25% and middle 50%. Drying time decreased as sticker thickness increased from 0.75 in. to 1.00 in. Statistically significant interactions were noted for sticker thickness and course position (<0.0001) as well as location and course position (P= 0.0378); 1.25 in. thick stickers exhibited higher MC in comparison to 0.75 in. and 1.0 in. for top to bottom positions. Additionally, 1.0 in. thick stickers developed lower MC at the top and bottom. Lower MC was observed in outer relative to inner location regardless of course position. Lower MCs were observed at the top courses for both inner and outer location. The 1.25 in. thick stickers did not produce acceptably dry lumber given the production time constraint. The working mechanism of an acoustic metamaterial (AM) for broadband elastic vibration suppression with non-independent local resonators is presented in this paper along with the general formulas for the effective mass (EM), dispersion relation, and transmission spectrum (TR) of this metamaterial unit. A kind of flexible metamaterial sticker that is lightweight and skillfully uses flexible materials is proposed based on a theoretical approach. The flexible metamaterial sticker has a surface density of only 2.22 kg/m² and an overall thickness of only 3 mm. It is made by depositing the flexible cylindrical supports in a square lattice pattern on the surface of the flexible plate. The finite element method (FEM) was used to systematically investigate the band structures, frequency response function (FRF), dynamic effective mass density (EMD), as well as the formation mechanisms of the flexural vibration bandgaps (FVBGs) of the metamaterial plates (composite structure after applying the metamaterial sticker). Additionally, a thorough analysis was conducted on the impacts of geometrical parameters (the rubber cylinder thickness, the flexible material plate thickness, the lattice constant, and the rubber cylinder radius) on the FVBGs. Finally, an overall vibration attenuation for the proposed metamaterials was estimated by using the spatial quadratic velocity and experiment. The findings confirmed that the AM caused multi-frequency negative EM, while the overall bandgap width was substantially wider than that of conventional metamaterials. Due to the numerous vibration modes of the flexible metamaterial, the suggested flexible lightweight metamaterial sticker can generate several observable local resonance FVBGs in the low-frequency range. Significantly broadening the bandwidth of FVBGs can be achieved by varying the rubber cylinder radius and thickness, as well as by adjusting the lattice constant and flexible material plate thickness. Within the FVBGs, the proposed lightweight flexible metamaterial sticker shows a good vibration-suppression performance, when compared with the traditional damping structure or metamaterials. AbstractThis study examined recognition of the six basic emotions communicated by 72 stickers provided on Chinese and American social media. Results demonstrate that sadness, happiness, and anger are recognized more accurately than disgust, fear, and surprise. An in-group advantage exists among Chinese instead of American participants, as the latter group recognizes emotions rendered by American and Chinese stickers with similar accuracy. Women outperform men in recognizing anger and fear expressed by stickers. A dynamic advantage manifests in recognizing anger, fear, and happiness rendered by animated stickers, in relation to static stickers. Three-way interaction effects show that emotions rendered by Chinese static stickers are more easily recognized compared to American static stickers. Moreover, women and Chinese participants recognize emotions rendered by Chinese and American animated stickers at similar accuracy levels. By contrast, men and American participants deliver better performances in recognizing emotions expressed by American animated stickers than Chinese animated stickers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine a powerful algorithm of cryptography that can continue cryptanalyzing and attacking without the use of unconventional techniques. Although some of the substitution algorithms are old, such as Vigenere, Alberti, and Trithemius ciphers, they are considered powerful and cannot be broken. In this paper we produce the novelty algorithm, by using of biological computation as an unconventional search tool combined with an uninhibited analysis method is the vertical probabilistic model, that makes attacking and analyzing these ciphers possible and very easy to transform the problem from a complex to a linear one, which is a novelty achievement. The letters of the encoded message are processed in the form of segments of equal length, to report the available hardware components. Each letter codon represents a region of the memory strand, and the letters calculated for it are symbolized within the probabilistic model so that each pair has a triple encoding: the first is given as a memory strand encoding and the others are its complement in the sticker encoding; These encodings differ from one region to another. The solution space is calculated and then the parallel search process begins. Some memory complexities are excluded even though they are within the solution paths formed, because the natural language does not contain its sequences. The precision of the solution and the time consuming of access to it depend on the length of the processed text, and the precision of the solution is often inversely proportional to the speed of access to it. As an average of the time spent to reach the solution, a text with a length of 200 cipher characters needs approximately 15 minutes to give 98% of the correct components of the specific hardware. The aim of the paper is to transform OTP substitution analysis from a NP problem to a O(nm) problem, which makes it easier to find solutions to it easily with the available capabilities and to develop methods that are harnessed to attack difficult and powerful ciphers that differ in class and type from the OTP polyalphabetic substitution ciphers. Educating new students in miniaturization science remains challenging due to the non-intuitive behavior of microscale objects and specialized layer-by-layer assembly approaches. In our analysis of the existing literature, we noted that it remains difficult to have low cost activities that elicit deep learning. Furthermore, few activities have stated learning goals and measurements of effectiveness. To that end, we created a new educational activity that enables students to build and test microfluidic mixers, valves, and bubble generators in the classroom setting with inexpensive, widely-available materials. Although undergraduate and graduate engineering students are able to successfully construct the devices, our activity is unique in that the focus is not on successfully building and operating each device. Instead, it is to gain understanding about miniaturization science, device design, and construction so as to be able to do so independently. Our data show that the activity is appropriate for developing the conceptual understanding of graduate and advanced undergraduate students (n = 57), as well as makes a lasting impression on the students. We also report on observations related to student patterns of misunderstanding and how miniaturization science provides a unique opportunity for educational researchers to elicit and study misconceptions. More broadly, since this activity teaches participants a viable approach to creating microsystems and can be implemented in nearly any global setting, our work democratizes the education of miniaturization science. The purpose of this qualitative participatory research study was to explore what happens when English language arts (ELA) preservice teachers collaborate to develop multimodal, intersectional, and critical feminist empowerment literacy curricula. This study centered on the following research question: How do ELA preservice teachers make sense of how pop-cultural, multimodal texts such as VSCO stickers frame girlhood and womanhood? Multiple data were collected: audio and video recording transcripts of monthly Saturday workshops, artifacts, such as curriculum writing and workshop photographs, researcher journals, analytic memos, and a shared Google Drive of written student thinking. The constant comparative method was used to analyze and triangulate the data. Analyses of data revealed that preservice teachers were able to critically analyze consumerism relating to VSCO stickers and girlhood and were able to notice how stickers typecast and reify individualism while also navigating authenticity during self-selection and categorizing stickers. Additionally, data analysis demonstrated how critical literacies played a role in the preservice teachers’ understanding of how several groups, communities, and individual voices were not recognized in the marketing and consumption of VSCO sticker packaging as well as providing additional gender biases in society. The purpose of this study was to describe the development of Sticker Board Activity media, to analyze the eligibility and effectiveness of media to develop fine motor aspects in sticking pictures properly in early childhood. This study uses the Research & Development method with the ADDIE model. The research subjects were group B children at Tunas Harapan Kindergarten, Hulu Sungai Selatan. Data collection techniques through questionnaires and observation. Data analysis is a descriptive analysis using tables and graphs. The results of this study are the results of the eligibility of the media to get a percentage of 96% with the criteria of very feasible and effective in developing fine motor aspects in sticking pictures correctly by 93% of children getting a Very Good Developed score. The conclusion from this study is that Sticker Board Activity media is considered very eligible and effective in developing fine motor aspects in sticking pictures properly in early childhood. The present study investigates whether directing five- to six-year-old children's attention to hypothetical resource recipients that included familiar and non-familiar people would affect their favoritism toward a familiar person, as reflected in how they allocated resources. In Experiment 1, we instructed participants to give one of several stickers to another person or keep all the stickers for themselves. Under the control conditions, participants more frequently gave stickers to friends than to non-friends. However, when asked about others' emotions, they distributed stickers equally among friends and non-friends. Therefore, focusing on others' thoughts reduced participants' favoritism toward friends. Experiment 2 tested whether focusing on both emotional valences would affect favoritism toward a familiar person, as reflected in children's resource distribution choices. Experiment 2 was identical to Experiment 1, except we asked participants about the other person's emotional valence. When asked about others' negative emotions, participants distributed the stickers equally between themselves and others. However, when asked about others' positive emotions, they distributed more stickers to friends than to non-friends. Neither others' emotional valence nor group status affected the perceived intensity of their emotion or the participant's emotional state. These results suggest that children's favoritism toward friends can be reduced by encouraging them to think about others' negative emotional states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cortisol hormone imbalances can be detected through non-invasive sweat monitoring using field-effect transistor (FET) biosensors, which provide rapid and sensitive detection. However, challenges like skin compatibility and integration with sweat collection have hindered FET biosensors as wearable sensing platforms. In this study, we present an integrated wearable sticker for real-time cortisol detection based on an extended-gate AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) combined with a soft bottom substrate and flexible channel for sweat collection. The developed devices exhibit excellent linearity (R2 = 0.990) and a high sensitivity of 1.245 μA dec−1 for cortisol sensing from 1 nM to 100 μM in high-ionic-strength solution, with successful cortisol detection demonstrated using authentic human sweat samples. Additionally, the chip's microminiature design effectively reduces bending impact during the wearable process of traditional soft binding sweat sensors. The extendedgate structure design of the HEMT chip enhances both width-to-length ratio and active sensing area, resulting in an exceptionally low detection limit of 100 fM. Futhermore, due to GaN material's inherent stability, this device exhibits long-term stability with sustained performance within a certain attenuation range even after 60 days. These stickers possess small, lightweight, and portable features that enable real-time cortisol detection within 5 minutes through direct sweat collection. The application of this technology holds great potential in the field of personal health management, facilitating users to conveniently monitor their mental and physical conditions. Recent research has provided compelling evidence that children experience the negative counterfactual emotion of regret, by manipulating the presence of a counterfactual action that would have led to participants receiving a better outcome. However, it remains unclear if children similarly experience regret's positive counterpart, relief. The current study examined children's negative and positive counterfactual emotions in a novel gain-or-loss context. Four- to 9-year-old children (N = 136) were presented with two opaque boxes concealing information that would lead to a gain or loss of stickers, respectively. Half of the children chose between two keys that matched each box, whereas the other half were compelled to select one box because only one of the two keys matched. After seeing inside the alternative, non-chosen box, children were significantly more likely to report a change in emotion when they could have opened that box than when they could not have. The effects were similar for children who lost stickers and won stickers, and neither effect varied with age. These findings suggest that children may become capable of experiencing regret and relief around the same time, although their expression of these counterfactual emotions may vary with actual and counterfactual gains and losses. Stickers are pervasive, if often small and subtle, tools of political activism. Despite their enduring popularity, stickers do not fit into popular models of political action that presume either a spectacle of protest or formal institutions and debate. In this paper, we argue that stickers enable and facilitate public interchange as a process of sociomaterial claims-making. However, in order to recognise how stickers are used to do politics, there is a need to shift from semiotic interpretations of stickers as representational signs in favour of an action-oriented, pragmatist approach that examine stickers in action in people's lives and shared worlds. Connecting with recent calls in geography to reconceptualise political and communicative action as lively, emergent, and materially-mediated, we tour through the sticky, peeling, covered, shared, and scribbled geographies of stickers in everyday, ordinary political action. Seed coating using antagonistic fungi protects seeds and plants against pathogens. In this research, the effect of tomato seed coating was studied using the endophytic fungus Acrophialophora jodhpurensis against Rhizoctonia solani in vivo. Seed coating was done using the spores of A. jodhpurensis supplemented with 1% edible sucrose, 0.5 % carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), or 0.5 % molasses as stickers. The greenhouse studies showed that the plant roots were colonized by this endophytic fungus very well at 30 days post-cultivation. The colonization of the roots in sucrose and carboxymethyl cellulose treatments was 80.55%, and in molasses treatment was 69.44%. This beneficial fungus significantly reduced the disease index of R. solani on detached leaf discs and tomato seedlings compared to the control. Also, the formation of pathogen infection structures, such as lobate appressoria and infection cushions, reduced on the treated plants compared to the control. Plant growth parameters such as dry and wet weight, shoot and root length significantly increased when the tomato seeds were coated with A. jodhpurensis compared to the non-treated control. Among the different coating materials used as sticker, sucrose was found to be the most effective for reducing the disease severity of R. solani and increasing plant growth parameters, which in sucrose, A. jodhpurensis and R. solani treatment the disease index significantly reduced compared to the plants only inoculated with R. solani. Therefore, seed coating using the endophytic fungus A. jodhpurensis supplemented with stickers, particularly edible sucrose, can be applied to protect tomato plants against this destructive pathogen. The presentation of science on social media has taken many forms over the years, from monologues and animations to live experiments. These new narratives are characterised by the use of everyday devices (generally portable devices such as mobile phones, laptops, or tablets) to leverage the potential of the digital environment (filters, stickers, GIFs, and animations, among others). The standardised design of current mobile phones, which usually have large touchscreen displays, has pushed the use of vertical formats to the forefront. Verticality has made it possible to change content not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a narrative one. Road accidents are a leading cause of death in Thailand, with increasing fatalities. Despite road safety campaigns during holidays, consistent communication is lacking in daily life. This research aimed to create Line application stickers, a top chat platform for Thailand, using the participatory design (PD) approach. PD was implemented in two steps. Firstly, 100 participants outlined character types, moods, tones, and communication objectives. They recommended lively animal characters with diverse texts, such as greetings, work, travel, and emotions. Then, through a focus group, the tortoise was identified to represent cautious drivers who follow traffic rules, the rabbit to represent fast and risky drivers, and the zebra to represent vigilant and disciplined traffic police officers as characters for Line stickers. Subsequently, using the semiotics approach, 40 Line stickers were designed, and embedded with denotative and connotative road safety messages. Secondly, feedback from the focus group, integral to the PD process, led to refinements. After launching, a survey of 50 users showed "Benefits Received", "Text and Messages", and "Meaning" dimensions received "Very Satisfied/Strongly Agree" ratings. The "Character" dimension received a "Satisfied" rating. The results for "Benefits Received" can also be analyzed in the context of the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) theory, which revealed that K and A were at the highest level, while P was at a high level. This suggests that the Line stickers designed in this study effectively conveyed road safety messages to the receivers. This research constitutes the pioneering exploration within the realm of Line stickers concerning road safety, signifying the originality and unique contribution of our research to the existing body of knowledge in this domain. This study examines the impact of graphicons (emoticons, emojis, and stickers) on the use of sentence-final particles (SFPs) in Chinese based on a 13-year longitudinal corpus of 941,020 comments posted on the popular Chinese social media platform Bilibili. Quantitative analysis shows that graphicon frequencies increase while SFP frequencies decrease over time, and that the correlation between these two trends is statistically significant. However, the more an SFP encodes a grammatical function or has a negative connotation, the less likely it is to be replaced by graphicons. Qualitative analysis suggests that the relationship between graphicons and SFPs is evolving from syntagmatic, where the two co-occur in the same sentence, to paradigmatic, where either can fulfill the function of expressing (positive) attitude or sentiment. This suggests that the functions of graphicons are shifting from compensation to competition with language, as an alternative to SFPs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With social media and modern pop culture (e.g., virtual stickers) reshaping social dynamics, young Taiwanese consumers who engage in social messaging via the Line app are introducing new interaction avenues that change communication habits and style choices to meet their tastes and interpersonal needs. This article analyzes the links between style choice and young consumers' experiences to elucidate the contours of virtual sticker possession when managing aesthetic identity and emotions for friendships. The methodological approach to this research follows the principles of interpretive phenomenology. The results demonstrate that Taiwanese culture's consolidating forces clash with alternative styles in the different contexts of friendships. Self-recognition is the ability of an animal to identify itself when observing its reflected image. Although many species have been tested, self-recognition has only been confirmed conclusively in a few taxa. We presented five Rosy-faced lovebirds, Agapornis roseicollis , with their own image using a mirror and applied the mark test, attaching a black sticker to each bird's throat. We evaluated the potential tactile effect of the mark by attaching a transparent sticker to the bird's throat. The results were analysed using Generalised Linear Mixed Models, which showed that four of five birds touched the black mark more than the transparent mark. There was no evidence that the birds could see the mark without the assistance of the mirror. The results of the study provide encouraging evidence that Agapornis roseicollis is able to recognise itself in a mirror and is the first parrot species to pass the mark test. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Researchers are eagerly developing various stretchable conductors to fabricate devices for next‐generation electronics. Most of the major problems in stretchable electronics happen at the connection between rigid and soft parts and the development of reliable soldering material is a major hurdle in stretchable electronics. Though there are attempts to devise new soldering processes for integrating chips and stretchable conductors, they still possess limitations such as mechanical stability, mass production, sophisticated processes, and restricted candidates for conductors and substrates. Here, this study presents a room‐temperature universal stretchable sticker‐like soldering process that can stretchably solder multiple spots at once and directly fabricates a stretchable device in an in situ manner while a target conductor is installed on one's body. The solder developed in this research possesses high conductivity with a unique freestanding feature enabling the process. It can be elongated when directly positioned between a rigid chip and a rigid conductor, demonstrating its extraordinary stretchability. It is expected that this simple but unique stretchable soldering technique utilizing the invented solder will allow the integration of functional stretchable conductors with highly advanced rigid chips for next‐generation stretchable electronics. Displays are one of the most mature technologies in the field of printed electronics. Their ability to be manufactured in large quantities and at low cost has led to their recent uptake into the consumer market. Within this article this technology is extended to electrochromic display stickers. This is achieved using a recent reverse display architecture screen printed on textile and paper sticker substrates. The electrochromic stickers are comparable to plastic control substrates and show little performance difference even when adhered to curved surfaces. The electrochromic display technology is extended to sticker labels for authentication applications by patterning either the dielectric or the graphical layer. The ability to mechanically stimulate touch receptors over the entire body is a key feature for fully immersive and highly realistic virtual reality experience. Haptic stickers, flexible arrays of HAXELs (hydraulically amplified TAXels), that enable cutaneous haptics over nearly all parts of the body, are reported. HAXELs are zipping electrostatic actuators that combine stretchable elastomers and high permittivity flexible films to generate both high strains and high forces, from DC to 200 Hz. A fabrication process that enables scaling HAXELs from 2 to 15 mm in diameter is presented, allowing to tailor the actuators to different body parts and to wearables such as wrist‐watches. The different sizes of HAXELs generate blocked forces from 100 to 800 mN, with DC displacements from 100 to 850 µm, well above sensation thresholds. Haptics tests of Haptic Stickers, 5 × 5 arrays of 10 mm diameter devices, on palms, back of the hand, neck, arm, and back of a dozen volunteers, are done with users reporting high pattern recognition success on many body locations. The Haptic Stickers uniquely offer a thin and lightweight form‐factor, which does not limit the freedom of motion of the user, compatible with untethered scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• A method of cancelable biometrics with physical-template was proposed. • Two block-based methods to select the key region of the face were proposed. • A new dataset named CanBiPT dataset for testing our method in the physical world was built. • The experiments demonstrate that our method is feasible and reliable in both physical and digital world. Cancelable biometrics are designed to solve the problem where biological characteristics cannot be cancelled and reissued. At present, most of the cancelable biometrics are carried out in the digital domain, therefore we call them cancelable biometrics with soft-template. In this paper, we propose a method called Cancelable Biometrics with Physical-Template (CanBiPT). The physical-template is a printed sticker that can be worn on the selected region of the face. First, in the face image, we select a specific region referring to the entropy between the faces with and without the physical-template, i.e., the sticker. Second, we generate an image with individual features and this image is called the physical-template which can be printed as a sticker. And the sticker is worn on the selected region of the face in the first step and the face with the sticker is used for authentication, recognition and so on. Different physical-templates can be formed by changing the regions (forehead, nose or mouth) or appearance according to the parameters in the algorithm. At the same time, the image printed as the sticker can also be used for the soft-template. The experiments on the public datasets, i.e., LFW and MS-Celeb-1M datasets and our own dataset, i.e., CanBiPT dataset, demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method with both physical-templates and soft-templates. This paper explores the sticker as a semiotic and ideological element in urban space, through which social groups communicate competing meanings. From a methodological point of view, starting from the character of the flâneur, walking is considered a useful tool for understanding the signifiers of the city. Thus, this paper presents a content analysis of the stickers displayed in the central area of Bucharest, documenting over a thousand stickers. Two stickers with an anticommunist message numerically dominate the other stickers in the analysis. Researching the emitters of these messages, the paper concludes that anticommunism is used by them in order to propagate far-right ideas and to glorify the Romanian legionary movement.

Bifacial photovoltaics (PV) are gaining rapid attention and their ability to generate more electricity is accelerating their deployment globally. However, literature on optimal bifacial PV is presented for the installation parameters of the system. In this study, we use response surface methodology (RSM) to investigate the flex and roadside reflector wastes as alternate reflectors for bifacial PV modules by using a statistical model. Our primary objective in this study is to examine the significant influence of key input factors (front irradiation, rear irradiation, temperature, thickness, and height) on the irradiance factor, total solar reflectance, and power extracted. The results show that the power extraction of the bifacial PV module using the waste flex material is 9%, higher than that of the road side sticker waste. The result indicates that among all other input factors, front irradiation is the most significant parameter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The renormalized bond lifetime model (RBLM) is a popular scaling theory for the effective lifetime of reversible bonds in transient networks. It recognizes that stickers connected by a reversible bond undergo many (J) cycles of dissociation and reassociation. After finally separating, one of these stickers finds a new open partner in time τopen via a subdiffusive process whose mean‐squared displacement is proportional to tα, where t is the time elapsed, and α is the subdiffusion exponent. The RBLM makes convenient mathematical approximations to obtain analytical expressions for J and τopen. The consequences of relaxing these approximations is investigated by performing fractional Brownian motion (FBM) simulations. It is found that the scaling relations developed in the RBLM hold surprisingly well. However, RBLM overestimates both τopen and J, especially at lower values of α. For α = 0.5, corresponding to the Rouse limit, it is found that τopen is overestimated by a factor of approximately 4x, while the approximation for J is nearly exact. The degree of overestimation worsens as α decreases, and increases to 1–2 orders of magnitude at α = 0.25, corresponding to the reptation limit. This has important ramifications for experimental studies that use RBLM to interpret rheology and dielectric spectroscopy observations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite half a century of research, few species have exhibited convincing evidence of mirror self-recognition. Several methodological objections to Gallup's mark test have been raised, but empirical studies have shown that methodology does not adequately explain why most species fail to recognize themselves in mirrors. However, a potential issue was constantly overlooked: mirror ecological relevance. Although reflective surfaces in nature are horizontal, previous studies indeed used vertical mirrors. The present study revisited the mark test to address this issue in an experiment with capuchin monkeys (Sapajus apella). Additionally, a new procedure based on sticker exchange was designed to maximize mark attractiveness. Subjects were first trained to exchange stickers, habituated to being head-touched, and exposed to a horizontal mirror. Then, their mirror self-recognition was tested by surreptitiously placing a sticker on their forehead before requesting them to exchange stickers. None of the monkeys removed the sticker from their forehead in the presence of the mirror. In line with previous studies, this result suggests that capuchin monkeys lack the ability to recognize themselves in mirrors. Nonetheless, this modified mark test could prove useful in future studies, including investigation of interindividual variability of mirror self-recognition in self-recognizing species. This study explores a new type of grammaticalisation, namely, grammatical constructionalisation , based on an investigation of the use of a newly emerging construction, the [X. jpg ] construction, in online forums in Taiwan. JP(E)G stands for 'Joint Photographic Experts Group'. As an abbreviation for the file extension of images, it was initially attached to image files in computers. However, in Taiwanese Mandarin, new usages for it have developed, whereby it can be attached to any phrase, including those without any source images, thereby simply pretending that the phrase has an attached image. Since the file extension.jpg is a technical term and a bound morpheme, when it extends to attenuating the force of the speech act, it functions as a pragmatic marker or hedge. This process of change from lexical to grammatical is known as grammatical constructionalisation and reveals the results of the interplay between popular Internet memes and user psychology. When using [X. jpg ], users tend to downtone the speaker's attitude, increase solidarity among insiders and pursue vividness and a sense of humour. This usage initially emerged under the technical limitations of a text-only online environment. The findings of this study suggest that the constructionist approach is an efficient, unified theoretical framework for its explanatory adequacy in addressing issues concerning both synchronic lexical semantics and diachronic grammatical change. The slow kinetics and poor substrate specificity of the key photosynthetic CO2-fixing enzyme Rubisco have prompted the repeated evolution of Rubisco-containing biomolecular condensates known as pyrenoids in the majority of eukaryotic microalgae. Diatoms dominate marine photosynthesis, but the interactions underlying their pyrenoids are unknown. Here, we identify and characterize the Rubisco linker protein PYCO1 from Phaeodactylum tricornutum. PYCO 1 is a tandem repeat protein containing prion-like domains that localizes to the pyrenoid. It undergoes homotypic liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) to form condensates that specifically partition diatom Rubisco. Saturation of PYCO 1 condensates with Rubisco greatly reduces the mobility of droplet components. Cryo--electron microscopy and mutagenesis data revealed the sticker motifs required for homotypic and heterotypic phase separation. Our data indicate that the PYCO 1--Rubisco network is cross-linked by PYCO 1 stickers that oligomerize to bind to the small subunits lining the central solvent channel of the Rubisco holoenzyme. A second sticker motif binds to the large subunit. Pyrenoidal Rubisco condensates are highly diverse and tractable models of functional LLPS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), deep learning (DL), and computer vision have revolutionized various industrial processes through image classification and object detection. State-of-the-art Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and object detection (OD) technologies, such as YOLO and PaddleOCR, have emerged as powerful solutions for addressing challenges in recognizing textual and non-textual information on printed stickers. However, a well-established framework integrating these cutting-edge technologies for industrial applications still needs to be discovered. In this paper, we propose an innovative framework that combines advanced OCR and OD techniques to automate visual inspection processes in an industrial context. Our primary contribution is a comprehensive framework adept at detecting and recognizing textual and non-textual information on printed stickers within a company, harnessing the latest AI tools and technologies for sticker information recognition. Our experiments reveal an overall macro accuracy of 0.88 for sticker OCR across three distinct patterns. Furthermore, the proposed system goes beyond traditional Printed Character Recognition (PCR) by extracting supplementary information, such as barcodes and QR codes present in the image, significantly streamlining industrial workflows and minimizing manual labor demands. Insecticides applied on food crops and vegetables reduce the pest population and leave chemical residues that may result in serious health consequences. In Nepalese context, farmers use pesticides repeatedly to get rid of pests and also don’t consider the waiting period. The study was conducted to evaluate the amount of pesticide residue after application of different organophosphate and carbamate insecticides in vegetable crops. Five insecticides were used in seven different combinations (Dimethoate, Malathion, dichlorvos, Chlorpyriphos, Dimethoate + dichlorvos, Malathion + Chlorpyriphos and Carbofuran) and applied in mustard leaves and broccoli. The residues were assessed using the “Rapid Bioassay of Pesticide Residue technique”. Results exhibited that Chlorpyriphos treated mustard leaves were edible in 3 DAA (Days after application) and in 6 DAA when sticker was applied with treatment. With or without sticker Dimethoate followed by Malathion applied mustard leaves were edible in 6 DAA. With or without sticker Dichlorvos took longest (12 DAA) to reach the safe limits for mustard leaves. In contrary the Dichlorvos treated broccoli was edible in 3 DAA but took 6 DAA when sticker was applied. Malathion treated broccoli, with and without sticker, was edible in 6 DAA. For both crops Carbofuran exhibited anomalous nature showing lower residue level in the beginning and higher later. When both vegetables were applied treatments with stickers, they showed significantly higher residue and took longer time to reach edible limit. The applied insecticides took relatively longer to reach safe level in mustard leaf as compared to broccoli. The study suggests use of Chlorpyriphos for mustard leaves and Malathion for broccoli with at least 6 days of waiting period, with or without use of sticker.

Los stickers (también llamados ‘pegatinas’) son pequeñas imágenes o animaciones que complementan las interacciones digitales en WhatsApp u otras aplicaciones de mensajería instantánea. Debido a su gran popularidad, según Konrad et al. (2020) en un futuro reemplazarán a los emojis. Este trabajo presenta los resultados de una encuesta llevada a cabo entre jóvenes (en su mayoría estudiantes de universidades españolas), con el fin de analizar el éxito de los stickers, los motivos de su popularidad y el posible cambio lingüístico al que estamos asistiendo en la interacción multimodal por mensajería instantánea. Los resultados indican que los emojis siguen siendo el recurso visual más usado en WhatsApp, pero la juventud muestra una marcada preferencia por los stickers. Estos se emplean sobre todo porque se consideran divertidos y se aprecia también la posibilidad de personalizarlos. Asimismo, los stickers recopilados para este trabajo tienen características en común con algunos géneros de memes humorísticos. Finalmente, se interpretan estos resultados como una muestra de cambio lingüístico en la comunicación digital.

In this article, we identify a new form of public discourse that takes the shape of WhatsApp sticker memes personally created and nationally shared on WhatsApp by citizens in Oman during the Covid-19 pandemic to concomitantly act as carriers of information and as promoters of relational work. The data consist of 67 public sign stickers culled from a larger set amassed as part of an ethnographic project on Arabs and Covid-19. Drawing upon interpersonal pragmatics and visual semiotics, we examine the interplay of textual and visual modes in featured stickers, demonstrating how Omanis translated official Covid-19 instructions into three types of terse memes to facilitate communal distribution. We suggest that to encourage public cooperation, the stickers struck a culturally-imperative balance between keeping traditional norms intact while committing socially offensive acts. This study investigates hate speech in bumper stickers in Jordan. A random corpus of 220 bumper stickers has been collected by the researchers themselves over the period of a year during which they have been commuting from their place of living to the Hashemite University. Graphics and images of any kind and shape are excluded. The findings show that 120 stickers out of 220 exhibit hate speech at the thematic level, and 50 stickers show structural hate speech since they restrictively use imperatives. Stickers displaying thematic hate speech are divided into five categories: stickers with direct threats to others' souls and properties; stickers with challenges to others; stickers displaying driver's disappointment, despair, and misery; stickers displaying indifference to others' feelings, ideas, and properties; and stickers with implicit hate speech. Finally, the findings show that although the targeted stickers show hate speech, they do not carry any indication of blasphemy or disloyalty, and they do not gear addressees towards vandalism.
