In water, the nonionic surfactant pentaethylene glycol monododecyl ether (C12E5) forms multi-lamellar vesicles upon application of shear, attributed to buckling instability of the surfactant layers. In the standard setup for applying shear, a pair of solid substrates is moved in opposite directions, and a non-slip condition at the solid surface is assumed. Based on theoretical predictions, the effective viscosity of the fluid surrounding the membrane is modified in this process, and this confinement may affect membrane fluctuation. However, only a few studies have analyzed the structural changes near the substrate. From this viewpoint, the structural changes in surfactant aggregates near a solid substrate under the application of shear were investigated herein using neutron reflectometry (NR). By increasing the shear rate, shear thickening at a lower shear rate and shear thinning at a higher shear rate were observed, similar to that in the bulk. However, a discontinuous change in the lamellar structure accompanying the condensation of the surfactant was observed in the NR experiments. This study presents the first experimental evidence indicating that the ramping speed of shear rates governs the shear-induced structuring of surfactant aggregates near the surface. Colloidal building blocks with re-configurable shapes and dynamic interactions can exhibit unusual self-assembly behaviors and pathways. In this work, we consider the phase behavior of colloids coated with surface-mobile polymer brushes that behave as "dynamic surfactants." Unlike traditional polymer-grafted colloids, we show that colloids coated with dynamic surfactants can acquire anisotropic macroscopic assemblies, even for spherical colloids with isotropic attractive interactions. We use Brownian Dynamics simulations and dynamic density functional theory to demonstrate that time-dependent reorganization of the dynamic surfactants leads to phase diagrams with anisotropic assemblies. We observed that the microscopic polymer distributions impose unique geometric constraints between colloids that control their packing into lamellar, string, and vesicle phases. Polymeric surfactants are amphiphilic molecules with two or more different types of monomers. If one type of monomer interacts favorably with a liquid, and another type of monomer interacts favorably with another, immiscible liquid, then polymeric surfactants adsorb at the interface between the two liquids and reduce the interfacial tension. The effects of polymer architecture on the structural and thermodynamic properties of the liquid–liquid interface are studied using molecular simulations. The interface is modeled with a non-additive binary Lennard-Jones fluid in the two-phase region of the phase diagram. Block and gradient copolymer surfactants are represented with coarse-grained, bead-spring models, where each component of the polymer favors one or the other liquid. Gradient copolymers have a greater concentration at the interface than do block copolymers because the gradient copolymers adopt conformations partially aligned with the interface. The interfacial tension is determined as a function of the surface excess of polymeric surfactant. Gradient copolymers are more potent surfactants than block copolymers because the gradient copolymers cross the dividing surface multiple times, effectively acting as multiple individual surfactants. For a given surface excess, the interfacial tension decreases monotonically when changing from a block to a gradient architecture. The coarse-grained simulations are complemented by all-atom simulations of acrylic-acid/styrene copolymers at the chloroform-water interface, which have been studied in experiments. The agreement between the simulations (both coarse-grained and atomistic) and experiments is shown to be excellent, and the molecular-scale structures identified in the simulations help explain the variation of surfactancy with copolymer architecture. The dynamics of many multiphase fluid systems involve the thinning and eventual break up of a slender fluid filament or a liquid jet. The interfacial instability that controls the rate of jet thinning depends on the relative magnitudes of capillary, viscous, and inertial stresses. Surfactants add an additional layer of physicochemical dynamics by reducing the surface tension of the interface and introducing reverse Marangoni flows in response to surface concentration gradients. Surfactants may also introduce an intrinsic surface rheology that affects jet thinning. Quantifying these effects has been a significant problem in chemical physics and a topic of key research interest. Recent studies have shown that insoluble surfactants delay thread thinning and suppress instabilities in Newtonian jets. However, the role of surfactant solubility in liquid jet stability is still unknown. In this work, we use linear stability analysis to quantitatively show the stabilizing effects of Marangoni stresses, surfactant adsorption and desorption time, and intermolecular forces upon adsorption. We highlight the seemingly indistinguishable way in which various surfactant properties result in the same outcome. We also identify a surface dissipative contribution that arises from the interplay of Marangoni flows with finite adsorption and desorption, which acts as an "apparent" surface viscosity. We verify predictions of our linear stability results against numerical simulations and conclude by noting that tuning surface activity and kinetics of adsorbed surfactants or particles can potentially suppress droplet formation, which is of significant impact in the printing industry and in the control of the spread of aerosols. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) is a crucial parameter in understanding the self-assembly behavior of surfactants. In this study, we combine simulation and experiment to demonstrate the predictive capability of molecularly informed field theories in estimating the CMC of biologically based protein surfactants. Our simulation approach combines the relative entropy coarse-graining of small-scale atomistic simulations with large-scale field-theoretic simulations, allowing us to efficiently compute the free energy of micelle formation necessary for the CMC calculation while preserving chemistry-specific information about the underlying surfactant building blocks. We apply this methodology to a unique intrinsically disordered protein platform capable of a wide variety of tailored sequences that enable tunable micelle self-assembly. The computational predictions of the CMC closely match experimental measurements, demonstrating the potential of molecularly informed field theories as a valuable tool to investigate self-assembly in bio-based macromolecules systematically. Light-driven diffusioosmosis is a membrane-free method for manipulating colloidal ensembles at solid–liquid interfaces based on photo-sensitive molecules inducing fluid flows along solid surfaces. In this study, we present our findings on porous colloids settled at a solid wall in an aqueous solution comprising a photo-sensitive azobenzene-containing cationic surfactant and a cyanine-based dye, capable of ionically binding to each other. The surfactant acts as an activation agent for diffusioosmotic flow. When exposed to modulated light, it undergoes photo-isomerization from a hydrophobic trans-state to a more hydrophilic cis-state, creating a concentration gradient near the irradiated area of the wall. The resulting osmotic pressure gradient sets the flow in motion. Porous colloids actively participate in flow generation by readily incorporating the surfactant molecules in the trans-state and releasing them in the cis-state, creating a constant source of diffusioosmotic flow. Under UV illumination, an excess of cis-isomers near the porous colloids elicits long-range repulsive interactions, tenfold the diameter of a particle. The dye acts as a sensor for the surfactant filling or emptying the pores of the colloids. It forms a complex with the trans-isomer and diffuses into the pores, where photoisomerization to cis-state destroys the complex and causes both the dye and the surfactant to leave the pores, altering the luminescence brightness within the colloids. We demonstrated that the presence of the dye affects cis-trans isomer ratios of the surfactant at photo-stationary states, thereby influencing the process of diffusioosmosis. This process enables the manipulation of colloidal particles and remote control of the interaction potential between them, facilitating the formation of well-ordered surface aggregates. We conduct dissipative particle dynamics simulations of nonionic surfactant solutions to investigate the statistical properties of micellar recombination. We categorize the recombination events into self-recombination, where two micelles created by scission join together, and non-self-recombination. We find that these two recombination events exhibit distinct statistical properties. The probability density function of the recombination time for self-recombination follows a power law, and we show that the mean squared displacement of the surfactants determines the exponent of the power law. In contrast, the survival function for non-self-recombination is exponential, which is consistent with the mean-field model. For non-self-recombination, we evaluate the mean recombination time for various aggregation numbers, temperatures, and surfactant volume fractions. Recent vibrational sum frequency generation spectroscopic experiments [Sengupta et al., J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 13, 11391–11397 (2022)] demonstrated synergistic interfacial adsorption effects between the anionic dodecyl sulfate (DS−) and the polar, but charge-neutral hexaethylene glycol monododecyl ether (C12E6), surfactants. In this study, the interfacial adsorption thermodynamics underlying these synergistic effects are analyzed through free energy decompositions. A general decomposition method utilizing alchemical intermediate states is outlined. Combining free energy decompositions with the potential distribution theorem illuminates the statistical interpretations of correlated effects between different system components. This approach allows for the identification of the physical effects leading to synergistic adsorption thermodynamics of DS− binding to the air-C12E6-water interface. The binding properties are found to result from a combination of effects predominantly including energetic van der Waals stabilization between DS− and C12E6, as well as competing energetic and entropic effects due to changes in the interfacial water structure as a result of introducing a C12E6 monolayer into the bare air–water interface. Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is widely used for its high strength‐to‐weight ratio, gas barrier properties, and chemical resistance. The growing PET use highlights the demand for a better recycling system. Enzymatic recycling, alongside mechanical and chemical methods, is eco‐friendly and yields properties similar to virgin PET. Substrate properties (Tg, crystallinity, and specific surface area [SSA]) and enzyme stability significantly impact conversion efficiency. Higher SSA and lower crystallinity tend to yield improved depolymerization when employing leaf compost‐cutinase (LCC‐ICCG) enzymes. This study explored melt extrusion and foaming as pretreatment techniques to modify PET structural properties, using a low‐cost chemical foaming agent (CFA). The monomer conversion rate and efficiency during depolymerization were measured and related to the processing, extrudate micro‐ and meso‐structure, and polyester type. Pretreated PET substrates showed reduced Tg, crystallinity, density, and enhanced SSA, resulting in a 90% mass loss for foamed RPET and VPET substrates within 2 days. In contrast, PET with ~30% of cyclohexanedimethanol comonomer exhibited a nearly 50% lower depolymerization rate, with zero BHET production. It indicates that the combination of low crystallinity, low Tg, and high SSA leads to improved monomer conversion. We have successfully synthesized a new acidic surfactant named C18‐DABCO‐AA, which contains octadecyl and acetic acid substituent on DABCO (1,4‐diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) unit, with an excellent yield. The synthesized surfactant was analyzed using FT‐IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. Its thermal behavior was analyzed by using the TGA–DTA technique. Our analysis indicates that the synthesized surfactant has excellent surfactant properties. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is 0.80 mM as determined by the conductivity method and UV–vis absorption measurement at 298.15 K. Surfactant also showed strong acidic properties with a pKa of 3.3. It is the best catalyst for the synthesis of 2,3‑dihydroquinazolin‑4(1H)‐ones (DHQs) in water at 40 °C. The synthesis is achieved via two‐component reactions of various aromatic aldehydes and anthranilamide in water at a CMC concentration of C18‐DABCO‐AA. The method was also extended for synthesizing DHQs via two‐component reactions of different ketones and anthranilamide under similar reaction conditions. The products were achieved in with yields ranging from good to excellent within 60–90 min. Additionally, the aqueous solution with C18‐DABCO‐AA was reused up to five times with a minor decrease in product yield. The present protocol is fast, energy‐efficient, and can be used on a large scale for synthetic purposes. Additionally, it boasts impressive environmentally friendly credentials. The authors have investigated the potential of a plant-based natural surfactant in the modification of various bubble parameters. Bubble dynamics at the orifice were studied in natural surfactant solutions extracted from the plant Sapindus mukorossi at concentrations below and above its critical micellar concentration (CMC). The results were compared to the ones obtained with Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate solutions. The CMC values of Sapindus mukorossi and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate are 7.5 × 10−3 g/cc and 2.39 × 10−3 g/cc, respectively. A photographic method was employed to observe bubble formation at the orifice. The results show that biosurfactants, like chemical surfactants, have a comparable effect on bubble density, size, and rise velocity. Experimentally determined bubble radius, volume, and radial velocity were used to calculate various forces contributing to the bubble dynamics. The buoyancy, pressure, and surface tension forces were significantly stronger in magnitude in comparison to the gas momentum, viscous drag, and added mass forces. Our findings suggest that the significance of various dynamic forces involved in bubble growth dynamics varies according to the bubble generation frequency regimes. We report for the first time the potential of Sapindus mukorossi in altering bubble properties and surface forces at the orifice and its usage in various bubble-related industrial applications. Biosurfactants, naturally produced by plants and microorganisms, closely mimic synthetic surfactants in physiochemical properties, making them valuable alternatives in various applications. They serve as antimicrobial agents and play a crucial role in immune regulations. These compounds find wide use in industries like food processing, biodegradation, pharmaceuticals, and naturally present in the skin, brain, lungs, and gut, maintaining membrane permeability for organ health. This review outlines the basic characteristics and classes of biosurfactants (glycolipids, lipopeptides, phospholipids, and glycoproteins) and explores their biomedical importance, emphasizing their anti-adhesive, antimicrobial, and immune-modulating properties. ABSTRACT Gelatin is one of the most widely used food ingredients, with wide applications in the food industry as stabilizing, gelling, and foaming agents. Fish skin is the basic source of gelatin, which contains a high amount of protein. The results show that the proximate compositions (protein, fat, ash, moisture, fiber, carbohydrate, and total energy) of the optimized ice cream product with ingredient compositions of (30% milk, 40% avocado pulp, 10% sugar, 15% gelatin, and 5% cream) show values of 3.26 ± 0.35, 9.32 ± 0.22, 2.79 ± 0.02, 57.83 ± 0.14, 3.46 ± 0.24, 23.26 ± 0.71, and 190.54 ± 0.02, respectively. Also, the microbe load in the optimized ice cream product was not detected up to 1 week, while total plate count and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria were starting to grow up after a week, and the results of panelists from sensory values indicate high acceptability of products with the aim of assessing the influence of fish skin gelatin on the nutritional values of avocado‐based low‐fat ice cream. AbstractThe nonionic surfactant was considered to be the most effective surfactant for the treatment of oily sludge. In this paper, Tween20 and Span80 (T/S) composite surfactant was chosen as emulsifier for the preparation of microemulsion, and their synergistic effect was explored. Clint equation and molecular dynamics simulation was used to interpret the formation of mixed micelles and the results showed that T/S composite surfactant with the mass ratio of 11:1 exhibited the good synergetic effect. Then, the microemulsion prepared using composite surfactants was applied for the treatment of oily sludge. Under the optimal conditions of solid-liquid ratio of 1:1(g: mL), stirring temperature of 40 °C, stirring time of 30 min and stirring speed of 400 rpm, the residual oil rate was reduced to 0.25%, which was much lower than other reported results using chemical methods. Interface tensiometer and quartz crystal microbalance measurement showed that the interfacial tension decreased significantly after the addition of composite surfactant. This work provides a feasible strategy for oily sludge treatment using microemulsion, which promoted the development of oily sludge treatment processes based on microemulsion in practical industry. A biological reduction method for silver nanoparticles was employed using Cassia alata extract from plant leaves, which functions as a reducing agent and the metallo‐surfactant [Co(dqn)2(C12H27N)2]3+ (dqn = dipyrido[3,2‐f:2′,3′‐h]‐quinoxaline; C12H27N)2 = dodecylamine) acting as both stabilizing and capping agent. The ratio of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) formation was adjusted to be equal to the amount of AgNO3, along with variations in the amount of plant leaf extract, the metallo‐surfactant, pH, surrounding temperature, and the length of interaction periods. High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), energy‐dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and energy‐dispersive X‐ray analysis (EDAX) were used to confirm the formation of AgNPs. The infrared results indicate the presence of hydroxyl, amine, and carboxylate groups in the extract plays a crucial role in the reduction process. Additionally, the metallo‐surfactant acts as a capping agent for the silver nanoparticles, preventing agglomeration. By adjusting the acidity of the solution and the quantity of the additive metallo‐surface active agent utilized, the size of AgNPs can be precisely regulated. The relativistic effects observed in this metallo‐surfactant‐assisted silver nanoparticle demonstrate excellent reduction capabilities for nitro compounds, effective dye degradation, and mercury sensing applications. Glass‐based insulating materials have attracted considerable attention owing to their tailorable properties. It is known that the thermal conductivity of glass ceramics can be greatly influenced by varying their crystallinity. However, the mechanism of such influence in glass–ceramic foams remains poorly understood. In this study, we demonstrate our new findings regarding the correlation between thermal conductivity and crystallinity in silicate glass–ceramic foams. The foams were produced by mixing ZrO2‐containing soda‐lime glass powder with CaCO3 as foaming agent and foam them using a thermochemical approach. ZrO2 was introduced as a nucleation agent. The crystallinity of the foams was varied by adjusting the heating protocol, i.e., by varying temperature, time, and number of heating cycles. The glass–ceramic foams exhibited relative crystallinities of <30%. The identity of the crystalline phases in the glass–ceramic foams varies with crystallinity. Specifically, cristobalite diminished, but devitrite grew with increasing crystallinity. It was observed that the crystallinity had a nonmonotonic impact on the thermal conductivity of the glass–ceramic foams. The optimum crystallinity for achieving the lowest thermal conductivity was 8–10%, resulting in an approximately 20% lower thermal conductivity compared to noncrystalline. The conventional method for synthesizing gold nanobipyramids (AuNBPs) is well established. However, the cytotoxicity resulting from the conjugates between hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and gold limits their biomedical applications. This study introduces a dual surfactant approach with CTAB and sodium oleate (NaOL) in the seed‐mediated synthesis of the AuNBPs, which can significantly reduce the CTAB concentration to 10 mM. Additionally, optimal growth conditions are achieved by varying the volumes of seed solution, AgNO3, and HCl. Under low CTAB concentrations, AuNBPs with tunable sizes and localized surface plasmon resonances between 600 and 1200 nm are successfully synthesized, as characterized by UV–vis‐NIR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) simulations. This work demonstrates a method for synthesizing AuNBPs at low CTAB concentrations using binary surfactants and provides a framework applicable to the synthesis of other metallic nanomaterials. Background: This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the potential link between common variations in the Surfactant Protein-B (SFTPB) gene and the risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm neonates. Methods: All pertinent articles published prior to February 1, 2024, in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CNKI, and Scopus databases were reviewed. Results: Nineteen case-control studies involving 1149 BPD cases and 1845 non-BPD controls, were analyzed. Combined data indicated a significant link between SFTPB −18 A > C and Intron 4 VNTR polymorphisms with increased BPD susceptibility, while the 1580 C > T polymorphism provides a protective impact on BPD initiation. Conclusions: Pooled data indicated a significant association between SFTPB −18 A > C and Intron 4 VNTR polymorphisms with increased BPD risk, whereas the 1580 C > T polymorphism confers protection. Bubble coalescence plays a critical role in optimizing biological and industrial processes, impacting efficiency in areas such as fermentation, wastewater treatment, and foaming control. While the relationship between chemical structure and bubble coalescence has been thoroughly explored for inorganic ions, limited data exist on organic ions and surfactants, despite their widespread use in these industries. This study addresses this gap by investigating the effects of surfactant hydrophobicity and bubble size on coalescence behavior at a flat air–liquid interface and within a bubble column. Surface tension measurements were employed to assess surfactant hydrophobicity, while bubble size and coalescence time were analyzed to determine their respective influences. The results reveal a novel quantitative relationship between surfactant hydrophobicity and the half-coalescence inhibition concentration (HCIC), a new variable introduced in this study. This relationship demonstrates that as hydrophobicity increases, the HCIC also rises, providing a new relationship between surfactant hydrophobicity and bubble coalescence. While it is well-known that more hydrophobic molecules delay coalescence, this is the first time a direct, proportional relationship has been established with HCIC, offering a new parameter for predicting and controlling coalescence phenomena. Polymer single‐chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) have found a wide range of applications spanning catalysts, sensors and nanomedicine. The generation of structured SCNPs from star‐shaped polymers with diverse architectures and functionalities affords a new avenue to expand the emerging research area. The large‐scale synthesis of structured SCNPs is described by the electrostatics‐mediated intramolecular crosslinking of three types of 3‐armed star‐shaped polymers (T‐P4VP, T‐PS‐b‐P4VP, and T‐P4VP‐b‐PS), whose configuration is tunable from spherical to cage‐shaped to dumbbell‐shaped and star‐shaped. The oil and water holding capacities, surface activity, and gelling ability of sodium carbonate-soluble pectin (NSP) extracted from the cell wall of bulb and foliage leaves of yellow and red onion (Allium cepa L.) were investigated and compared with those of commercial citrus pectin. Pectin chemical composition and properties its aqueous dispersions (e.g. the viscosity, pH) were studied. Homogalacturonan was the main component of the low-methoxylated pectin, with a small amount of rhamnogalacturonan I (more branched in the bulb pectin). Both the oil (35–41 g/gd.m.) and water (20 g/gd.m) holding capacities of NSP were higher than citrus pectin (1 and 17 g/gd.m, respectively). The surface activity of NSP was comparable (foliage leaves; surface tension (γ) decrease to 62 mN/m) or higher (bulb; γ decrease to 56 mN/m) than commercial pectin. The ability of NSP, especially extracted from the bulb, to form larger structures with increasing viscosity and neutralizing the negative surface charge, was significantly higher than that of citrus pectin. Therefore, NSP of bulb and foliage leaves may be useful as a carrier of oil- or water-soluble substances, a surface active agent, texturizer and gelling agent in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and agricultural branches of industry. In this work, magnesia‐alumina spinel foam ceramics were prepared by foaming‐sol method using magnesia alumina spinel as raw material, anionic surfactant potassium oleate (PO) as foaming agent, and alumina sol as curing agent. The curing mechanism and the effect of alumina sol content on the stability of foam slurry and the properties of foam ceramics were investigated. In the foam slurry, the alumina sol can react with PO, so magnesia‐alumina spinel can be fixed in the foam structure through the gel network to improve the stability of the foam slurry. The gelation process reduces the viscosity of the foam slurry. The pores of magnesia‐alumina spinel foam ceramics sintered at 1500°C are mostly closed pores and the average pore was 29.7–42.1 µm. With the increase of alumina sol content, the bulk density of magnesia‐alumina spinel foam ceramics increased from 1.3 to 1.9 g/cm3, the cold compressive strength from 8.8 to 22.7 MPa, and the thermal conductivity from.417 to.806 W·m−1·K−1(350°C). In this article, we develop stable and efficient numerical schemes for a binary fluid‐surfactant phase‐field model which consists of two Cahn–Hilliard type equations with respect to the free energy containing a Ginzburg–Landau double‐well potential, a logarithmic Flory–Huggins potential and a nonlinear coupling entropy. The numerical schemes, which are decoupled and linear, are established by the central difference spatial approximation in combination with the first‐ and second‐order exponential time differencing methods based on the convex splitting of the free energy. For the sake of the linearity of the schemes, the nonlinear terms, especially the logarithmic term, are approximated explicitly, which requires the bound preservation of the numerical solution to make the algorithm robust. We conduct the convergence analysis and prove the bound‐preserving property in details for both first‐ and second‐order schemes, where the high‐order consistency analysis is applied to the first‐order case. In addition, the energy stability is also obtained by the nature of the convex splitting. Globally, the development of porous structured materials has been receiving incredible responses for various high-performance engineering applications. Piezoelectric cellular foams have recently attracted the attention of researchers to emerging applications of acoustic sensors, low-frequency hydrophones, and energy-harvesting devices. As pore morphology is closely related to the shape and the size of the pore-foaming agent, it is necessary to address the influence of particle size of the foaming agent on cell morphology to expand their application area. Hence, this research article establishes the impact of particle size of pore foaming agents on pore morphology, hydrophobicity, and acoustic characteristics of open-cell polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) based piezoelectric cellular composites. Open-cell PVDF cellular composites have been fabricated using the template removal method with sodium chloride (NaCl) as a sacrificial templating agent in three different particle sizes: larger, medium, and finer. Based on the experimental results, it can be stated that the particle size of the templating agents dramatically influences the pore morphology, hydrophobicity, and acoustics performance of the PVDF foam samples. The PVDF foams possessing medium pore size have exhibited a maximum sound absorption coefficient of 0.89 at a frequency range of 1,000–1,500 Hz, indicating that PVDF foams have great potential for noise-controlling applications. Surfactants are commonly employed in sand‐based turfgrass systems to address soil water repellency, which often results in the formation of preferential flow channels leading to non‐uniform wetting patterns. While the influence of soil moisture on nutrient dynamics is well documented, the potential of surfactants to improve N uptake remains poorly understood. A 2‐year study was conducted on 'Celebration' bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.)] fairway to better understand the interaction between fertility programs (296 or 586 kg N ha−1 year−1 from ammonium sulfate and 564 kg N ha−1 year−1 primarily from a controlled‐release N fertilizer) and surfactant rate and frequency (3.2 L ha−1 every 14 or 28 days, or at 6.4 L ha−1 every 28 days) on turfgrass performance, leaf N content, and soil moisture. Overall, no significant interaction was observed between surfactant treatment and fertility program. During the dry season (November to May), fertility programs influenced turfgrass performance parameters with higher N rates consistently leading to improvements in visual quality, normalized difference vegetation index, percent green cover, and dark green color index; however, no differences were observed during the rainy season (June to October). Surfactants showed no effect on turfgrass performance but led to minimal increase in leaf N content from 3.72% to 3.85%. All surfactant treatments reduced water drop penetration time at 0 cm. Moreover, surfactant treatments applied every 28 days regardless of the rate exhibited a higher volumetric water content compared to those applied every 14 days. Surfactant applications might not be an economically feasible strategy to improve leaf N content in South Florida well‐watered bermudagrass fairways. In recent years, due to the diversity of fire scenes in ports and ships, the problem of fire command is complicated. In the case of power failure, the original command platform and fire extinguishing system will not be able to be used normally, or the fire extinguishing resources carried by the ship when it is on fire cannot be used. In the traditional firefighting ability research, there is no clear measure of firefighting ability, resulting in inaccurate calculation results. By corresponding to the quantity and composition of resources for the study of fire extinguishing capability, the combination of the fire dynamics simulation software PyroSim2020 and a calculation model that converts its resources into the total amount and flow of fire extinguishing agent can be provided. Based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a firefighting demand grade calculation and judgment model was established, which included five factors: fire scale, combustion material characteristics, foam extinguishing agent performance, firefighting object characteristics, and external factors. It concluded that the demand assignment values of each index element were 2, 5, 6, 9, and 10, and further proposed the grade judgment criteria for the calculation results of comprehensive fire demand. Through the quantitative simulation of firefighting demand based on the fire scenario and calculation model test of the consumption prediction of cooperative firefighting equipment, it can also provide a strategic reference for related cooperative fire rescue. The potential of monorhamnolipid (monoRL) biosurfactant to enhance the removal of residual dodecane from a porous medium was investigated under monoRL concentration varying from sub-CMC to hyper-CMC conditions by one-dimension column experiments. In the immiscible displacement experiment, 76% of the total volume of dodecane is removed by flushing of 150 μM monoRL solution. The solubilization of dodecane could be enhanced by rhamnolipid even at monorhamnolipid concentrations as low as 50 μM/L. The higher solubilization concentration (500 μM/L) of monoRL solution results in higher solubilized dodecane concentration (160 μM/L) due to the larger quantity of micelle formation. Compared to solubilization, immiscible displacement, or mobilization, is far more effective in removing residual dodecane. The interfacial partitioning tracer tests (IPTT) method is applied to measure the variation in specific dodecane-water interface areas (Anw). The results showed that the flushing of monoRL increased the Anw from 2.04 to 3.54 cm2/cm3. This investigation implies that low-concentration monorhamnolipid flushing and subsequent micelle solubilization is an economic method to remediate NAPL-contaminated fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The traditional gel foam materials have achieved certain effects in preventing coal fire. However, the traditional gel foam materials commonly use chemical compounds which cause harm to the environment. Therefore, based on biomass materials such as low methoxyl pectin (LMP), calcium L-lactate (Ca-L), and biomass compound foaming agent (BF), a new eco-friendly gel foam (LMP-Ca) was prepared. The foaming performance, gelling time, stability, coal oxidation inhibition and fire extinguishing performances of LMP-Ca were systematically studied. The study shows that the gelling time of LMP-Ca with 1.2 wt% LMP, 0.075 wt% Ca-L and 0.03 wt% BF is 10 min and the half-life is up to 216 h. Moreover, the LMP-Ca has excellent film-forming performance, and the isolation film with thickness up to 2.5 mm can be formed on the surface. The coal oxidation inhibition experiment shows that LMP-Ca can effectively delay the oxidation rate of coal with the temperature rising, and the inhibition rate of CO is 72.1% at 180°C. The fire extinguishing experiment shows that the temperature of the coal treated by LMP-Ca decreases rapidly from 960 to 60°C in 20 min and to 30°C in the following 110 min without the reignition phenomenon. The result indicates that LMP-Ca has excellent fire extinguishing performance. Foaming or porous geopolymers can be utilized in various engineering applications, including heat and acoustic insulations, as well as passive fire protection in building materials. They are ecofriendly materials, as no significant production power is required. In this study, geopolymers possessing foaming features involving lightweight and porous materials were successfully created through the reaction of sodium hydroxide solution 6 M with powder of waste glass MG without/with rice husk (RH) 20 wt.% of heat treated (212, 420, and 600 μm) utilized as the foaming agent. The effect of rice husk ash (RHA) and various sizes of RH additives on the thermal treatment (volume and weight changes, percentage), compressive strength, and microstructure (pore content) was assessed. The results show swelling (foaming behavior) for MG‐N6, MGB‐N6, MGR212‐N6, and MGR600‐N6 at 550°C, unlike the MGR420‐N6 formula. Also, a high‐volume change (percentage) for MGR420‐N6 paste at 650°C was noticed. Additionally, foaming behavior (high volume expansion) appeared for all thoughtful pastes after treatment at 750°C. The weight loss for all specimens in the range of 10%–27% and a high percentage of weight changes for MGR400‐N6 and MGR600‐N6 were noticed. Low values of compressive strength (2.74–14.5 MPa) were recorded for all formulas studied. These synthesized materials, geopolymers containing glass waste and RH powder, resulting from this study, are highly recommended, mostly for thermal and acoustic insulation materials demanding lightweight, porosity, and low mechanical properties. AbstractA series of newly structured two-tailed cationic surfactants were synthesized via a carbonyl amine condensation reaction aimed at reducing the bioaccumulation of conventional surfactants while maintaining their excellent surface properties. Long-chain alkyl amine compounds can be reversibly converted into charged surfactants through CO2/H2O treatment and an alkyl chain length of between C8 and C12. The structures were characterized by IR,1H NMR and 13C NMR. The main surface activity parameters of the surfactants, containing cmc, γcmc pC20, cmc/С20, Γm and Αmin, were determined. In this research work, aluminum 6063 alloy foam was synthesized through stir casting using varying amounts of titanium hydride as a foaming agent. A comparative microstructural and wear behavior analysis of stir-cast aluminum 6063 alloy and its foam is presented. The oxide and aluminide phases present as intermetallic compounds in the stir-cast aluminum 6063 alloy foam ensure the stability of the synthesized foam. In order to optimize the effect of wear parameters on the tribological properties of stir-cast aluminum 6063 alloy foam, the L933 orthogonal array (OA) was designed and modeled statistically. The tribological properties of stir-cast aluminum 6063 alloy and its foam were evaluated by pin-on-disc tests. The optimal tribological properties of the synthesized foam are 0.29 coefficient of friction, 8.6 N frictional force, and 0.00025 mm3/N-m specific wear rate. The tribological properties of stir-cast aluminum 6063 alloy foam are superior to those of aluminum 6063 alloy and comparable to other aluminum foams described in the literature. The replacement of fluorine‐free foam is imminent, but to date, no fluorine‐free foam has reached comparable fire extinguishing performance to AFFF (aqueous film forming foam). The stability of firefighting foam significantly affects its extinguishing performance. In order to better understand the influence of foam formulation physical properties on foam stability, we correlate the foam stability with surface tension and dilational visco‐elasticity based on the AFFF formulation. The results show that, the foam stability rising steadily with the decrease of surface tension, which indicates that low surface tension favors the improvement of foam stability. However, when at the studied highest surface tension, the foam stability elevates slightly instead, demonstrating the surface tension is not the determinant of foam stability. By contrast, the dilational visco‐elasticity shows a closer correlation with foam stability for the consistent tendency. In the case of constantly changing disturbance frequency, the interface dilational elasticity shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the rise of disturbance frequency, whereas the interface dilational viscosity is completely opposite. Different relaxation processes show up for different samples. This work aims to synthesize new foaming laterite geopolymer foam using laterite, sodium silicate solution, sand, and aluminium powder. The porosity rapidly increased with the addition of the foaming agent. The foam matrix had thermal conductivity values of 0.10 W/m K with 0.7% of Al powder and 0.64 W/m K with 0% of Al powder. For fire resistance, samples exposed to high temperatures (200°C and 500°C) showed increased flexural strength, linear shrinkage at 500°C, and a decrease at 900°C due to structural weakening under high thermal pressure and the appearance of new phases such as nepheline and akermanite in X‐ray diffraction analysis. The results also showed that a 30% increase in fine aggregate content increased the strength of the foam matrix, with flexural strength ranging from 5 to 9.1 MPa after 28 days of ambient curing. Incorporating CO2-philic functionalities into surfactant structure is proposed to address the drawbacks of conventional foaming agents such as premature rupture of lamellae in contact with oil, surfactant loss due to adsorption on rock or partitioning between oil and water, and salinity and temperature tolerance issues. Increased activity at the gas/water interface and less surfactant adsorption to the rock due to the presence of CO2-philic chains results in higher foam durability in the presence of oil. In the present paper, a comprehensive study on the adsorption of anionic CO2-philic surfactants onto sandstone rock surface is performed to understand adsorption mechanisms through the addition of CO2-philic tail groups in surfactant structure by observing the changes in concentration, static adsorption, and point of zero charge measurements. The static adsorption tests, Fourier Transform Infrared, and the X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy techniques were employed to investigate the interaction of surfactants with crushed Berea sandstone core sample at 90 °C. The static adsorption values of the S (single-tail), D (double-tail), and T (triple-tail) anionic surfactants were reported to be 0.53, 0.40, and 0.6 mg /g, respectively. The effect of alkali on the adsorption process of surfactants was also investigated and the adsorption of synthesized surfactants was found significantly low in alkaline conditions. A variety of analyses, including model fitting along with kinetics and thermodynamics studies at 30, 40, and 50 °C were performed to predict the adsorption behavior. The adsorption isotherm was found to best fit in Langmuir model. The process showed the best fit in the pseudo-second-order reaction kinetics model. The present study explores the cleaning efficacy of a set of nonionic surfactants (linear ethoxylated alcohol, secondary ethoxylated alcohols with 5, 7, and 9 ethoxy groups, glycoside surfactants, polyglycerol surfactants, and an ethoxylated sorbitan monolaurate) combined with cationic biocides—alkyl quaternary ammonium salts. A simple hard surface cleaning methodology was applied, which was shown to discriminate well between poor and good cleaning formulations. In addition to cleaning efficacy, surface aesthetics such as gloss and haze were evaluated together to assess surface streaking caused by a residual surfactant layer. [Display omitted] Switchable microemulsions (MEs) are those capable of adaptively responding to the action of internal or external stimuli. For redox-switchable MEs to obtain high-efficiency phase separation and surfactant recycling, it may be one of the keys to adequately turn off the interfacial activity of surfactants and reduce the solubility of the closed surfactants in the oil phase. Monophasic MEs consisting 11-butylselanyl-undecyl sulfate sodium (C 4 SeC 11 SO 4 Na), n -butanol, n -octane, and water were fabricated using the pseudo-ternary phase diagram method. Their structural features and droplets size were characterized by conductivity, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), respectively. The redox response of MEs was studied using a combination of visual observations and DLS, cryo-TEM, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and thin-layer tomography. The efficient recycling of C 4 SeC 11 SO 4 Na from a well-emulsified eluent is conceptually demonstrated. The reversible transition between C 4 SeC 11 SO 4 Na and C 4 SeOC 11 SO 4 Na is achieved under the alternating action of H 2 O 2 and N 2 H 4 , by which C 4 SeC 11 SO 4 Na-based monophasic MEs are able to efficiently demulsify and regenerate, respectively, regardless of their type. After H 2 O 2 -induced demulsification of the MEs, C 4 SeOC 11 SO 4 Na can be efficiently recycled with the water phase. We hope that such a redox-switching method may benefit some technological applications. For example, it offers exciting possibilities for simultaneous recycling C 4 SeC 11 SO 4 Na and removal of oil from a well-emulsified eluent. Around 97.1 ± 0.3 % of C 4 SeC 11 SO 4 Na could be recycled over five cycles with no apparent loss. After a simple and conventional treatment with anion-exchange resin and active carbon, the total organic carbon and chemical oxygen demand of the waste water were 17.4 ± 2.8 and 26.2 ± 1.4 mg/L, respectively. [Display omitted] Organohydrogel emulsions display unique rheological properties and contain hydrophilic and lipophilic domains highly desirable for the loading of active compounds. They find utility in various applications from food to pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products. The current systems have limited applications due to complex expensive formulation and/or processing difficulties in scale-up. To solve these issues, a simple emulsification process coupled with unique compounds are required. Here, we report an organohydrogel emulsion based only on a low concentration of 12-hydroxystearic acid acting as a gelling agent for both oil and water phases but also as a surfactant. The emulsification process is based on in-situ surfactant transfer. We characterize the emulsification process occurring at the nanoscale by using tensiometry experiments. The emulsion structure was determined by coupling Small Angle X-ray and neutron scattering, and confocal Raman microscopy. We demonstrate that the stability and unique rheological properties of these emulsions come from the presence of self-assembled crystalline structures of 12-hydroxystearic acid in both liquid phases. The emulsion properties can be tuned by varying the emulsion composition over a wide range. In this work, the emulsion‐templating technique is proposed to fabricate polymethacrylimide (PMI) foam for the first time. Different from those PMI foam reported in the literature, having a closed‐cell structure with submillimeter‐sized voids, the emulsion‐templated PMI foam has an obvious open‐cell structure with micrometer‐sized voids. The pore structure, density, and porosity of the PMI foam herein could be tuned by simply changing the internal phase volume fraction and/or the surfactant concentration of the emulsion template. The density of PMI foam is varied between 0.174 and 0.350 g·cm−3. The prepared PMI foam exhibited excellent mechanical properties, the compressive strength and compressive modulus ranged from 4.87 to 7.48 MPa and from 58.67 to 124.67 MPa, respectively, which are both much higher than the traditional closed‐cell PMI foams with similar density. The prepared PMI foam has excellent thermal resistance with its initial thermal decomposition temperature of 325°C in nitrogen and 253°C in air. Surfactant‐assisted co‐precipitation for catalyst preparation is an excellent potential preparation method for enhanced metal‐support interactions and abundant oxygen vacancy. Cu/SiO2 catalysts were prepared containing either glycolic acid ethoxylate lauryl ether (BRIJ35, B5), polyethylene oxide‐polypropylene oxide‐polyethylene oxide (P123 P3), or no surfactant. After further treatment with surfactants, the 1,6‐hexanediol selectivity was significantly increased, especially for P123 surfactant. The Cu/SiO2‐P3 catalyst showed good performance, which may be related to more surface basic amount, the larger dispersion of the Cu and abundant oxygen vacancy. Abundant Ovac may facilitate the hydrogenation of DMA by weakening the C=O bond. After the Cu/SiO2 catalyst was treated with surfactant, the micropores disappeared and SBET of the catalyst increased. Sludge thickening is a fundamental stage of treatment. This study investigated the application, in continuous treatment, of polymeric bubbles produced with cationic polymer P2900 and cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB), a zwitterionic surfactant. The proposed reagent combination aims to form aerated flakes, solid waste structures, and rapidly rising air bubbles, ideal for treatments in compact units. Using this combination, it was possible to achieve a total solids concentration of 45% with the modified bubbles and 25% with the conventional water treatment. This level of thickening occurred under the following operating conditions: initial total solids (TS) concentration of 10 g L−1, a flow rate of 5 L min−1, saturation pressure (psat) of 3 atm, and polymer dosage of 10 mg (gTS)−1. The suggested mechanism of action involves the adhesion of P2900 molecules to CAPB at the air/water interface, forming a lining on the bubble surface. Additionally, polymerized species form due to the residual aluminum (Al) in the sludge, which would occur during flocculation in the helical tubular flocculator (HTF), adsorbing the micelles and bubbles of CAPB. The critical micellar concentration (CMC) of CAPB was 0.26 mmol L−1. Polymeric bubble technology can provide an efficient and cost-effective approach to sludge thickening in continuous treatment. Thermal decomposition of iron oleate is a simple and widespread method for synthesizing monodispersed iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) with well‐defined morphology. However, the complexity of the underlying mechanism makes this method rather sensitive to variations in experimental conditions, and the lack of simple techniques to monitor the reaction progress in situ usually results in poor reproducibility and time‐consuming optimizations. Here, a simple, robust, and versatile in situ marker to monitor particle formation based on a sudden change in the temperature during reflux is reported. A linear relationship between the onset of particle formation and the concentration of surfactants is unveiled, corroborating a 'chemically activated' burst nucleation mechanism. Using this linear relationship as a guide, highly uniform spherical, cubic, and star‐shaped particles between 12 and 30 nm can be obtained. This temperature marker and the derived linear relationship not only deepen the understanding of the reaction process, but also provide a powerful tool for the straightforward optimization of IONPs. Aim Methods Results Conclusion To determine whether the use of less‐invasive surfactant administration (LISA) had changed between 2018 and 2024.An online questionnaire was sent to all 191 neonatal units between June 2023 and May 2024. One consultant from each neonatal unit was randomly selected. Follow‐up was done by telephone (middle‐grade doctor grade and above or alternatively to Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners) for the non‐responders.Response rate was 100%from 191 units neonatal units. LISA was used in 134 (70%) neonatal units in 2024 compared to 35 (18.7%) units in 2018 (p < 0.001). The reason why LISA was not performed was lack of experience/training (51%) or not having a standardised practice/guideline (49%). LISA in the delivery suite (DS) had increased from 2% in 2018 to 16% in 2024, and the use of video laryngoscope for LISA is becoming standard of practice. The oxygen requirement criteria for the use of LISA in both the DS and on neonatal unit had reduced to FiO2 of 0.3 or more.The uptake of LISA had increased in the United Kingdom. Alkaline-catalyzed organosolv pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass affords excellent delignification, yielding a holocellulose-rich substrate for fermentable sugar production. However, complete lignin removal is impractical, and residual lignin also exacerbates negative effects on subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis. Herein, a novel strategy of developing surfactant-assisted organosolv pretreatment (Triton-X 100, AEO 9 and Tween 80) for in situ lignin modification was proposed to overcome this issue. The results indicated that the pretreated substrates showed considerable enzymatic hydrolyzability with a 15.7%–38.3% higher sugar yield compared to the control group without surfactants. Surfactants could graft on both residual and dissolved lignin through etherification, forming α-etherified lignin, though without significantly changing the component distribution and substrate-related properties. Quantum chemical calculations provided theoretical evidence of strong H-bonding and pronounced interaction energy between lignin and surfactants (maximally at −48.4 kcal mol−1). In particular, this surfactant modification decreased the aliphatic –OH and phenolic –OH contents of residual lignin by 16.0%–22.4% and 13.8%–28.8%, respectively. The reduction of –OH groups mitigated non-productive adsorption between lignin and cellulases via H-bonding interaction, which exhibited a significant correlation with the increased enzymatic hydrolyzability (>−0.9). Structured liquids are emerging functional soft materials that combine liquid flowability with solid-like structural stability and spatial organization. Here, we delve into the chemistry and underlying principles of structured liquids, ranging from nanoparticle surfactants (NPSs) to supramolecular assemblies and interfacial jamming. We then highlight recent advancements related to the design of intricate all-liquid 3D structures and examine their reconfigurability. Additionally, we demonstrate the versatility of these soft functional materials through innovative applications, such as all-liquid microfluidic devices and liquid microreactors. We envision that in the future, the vast potential of the liquid–liquid interface combined with human creativity will pave the way for innovative platforms, exemplified by current developments like liquid batteries and circuits. Carbon dots (CDs) are versatile, easy to fabricate, chemically stable, and ecofriendly materials. This work presents the impact of different post-treatments, such as centrifugation and filtration, on the photoluminescence (PL) and particle-size distribution of electrochemically synthesized CDs. Because organic envelope surfactants have been reported to influence PL, bare CDs were compared with CDs modified with amphiphilic and nonamphiphilic surfactants. The CD colloidal solution exhibited stabilization in the case of bare CDs and CDs modified with amphiphilic sodium dodecyl sulphate or non-amphiphilic surfactant sodium citrate, as indicated by the zeta potential. The experimental results also revealed a minor influence of the organic envelope on the absorbance or PL spectrum, whereas filtration of the colloid solution had a significant impact, revealing an effect not previously observed. The change in the absorbance spectrum was attributed to sp3 hybridization due to increased disorder and surface states during the filtration process. Absorbance deconvolution also disclosed two energy substates not mentioned elsewhere. The PL spectra of the filtered CD solutions revealed that the emission peaks shifted according to the incident wavelength, and the centrifuged CDs synthesized with the sodium citrate surfactant lacked PL due to the absence of sp3 states. A lattice Boltzmann method is used to explore the effect of surfactants on the unequal volume breakup of a droplet in a T-junction microchannel, and the asymmetry due to fabrication defects in real-life microchannels is modelled as the pressure difference between the two branch outlets ($\Delta {P^\ast }$). We first study the effect of the surfactants on the droplet dynamics at different dimensionless initial droplet lengths ($l_0^\ast $) and capillary numbers (Ca) under symmetric boundary conditions ($\Delta {P^\ast } = 0$). The results indicate that the presence of surfactants promotes droplet deformation and breakup at small and moderate $l_0^\ast $ values, while the surfactant effect is weakened at large $l_0^\ast $ values. When the branch channels are completely blocked by the droplet, a linear relationship is observed between the dimensionless droplet length ($l_d^\ast $) and dimensionless time (${t^\ast }$), and two formulas are proposed for predicting the evolution of $l_d^\ast $ with ${t^\ast }$ for the two systems. We then investigate the effect of the surfactants on the droplet breakup at different values of $\Delta {P^\ast }$ and bulk surfactant concentrations (${\psi _b}$) under asymmetric boundary conditions ($\Delta {P^\ast } \ne 0$). It is observed that, as $\Delta {P^\ast }$ increases, the volume ratio of the generated droplets (${V_1}/{V_2}$) decreases to 0 in both systems, while the rate of decrease is higher in the clean system, i.e. the presence of surfactants could cause a decreased pressure difference between the droplet tips. As ${\psi _b}$ increases, ${V_1}/{V_2}$ first increases rapidly, then remains almost constant and finally decreases slightly. We thus establish a phase diagram that describes the ${V_1}/{V_2}$ variation with $\Delta {P^\ast }$ and ${\psi _b}$. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
