Objective: To investigate and compare the clinical outcomes of the arterial pre-occlusion technique(APOT) and the traditional technique in the surgery of locally advanced pancreatic cancer with arterial involvement after conversion therapy. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of 145 patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer with arterial involvement admitted to the Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery of the First Hospital Affiliated to Naval Medical University,from January 2020 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients completed neoadjuvant therapy for tumors, and the feasibility of radical surgical treatment was determined by a multidisciplinary collaborative team evaluation before surgery. According to whether the intraoperative artery was pre-occluded, 145 patients were divided into two groups, including 28 cases in the APOT group(16 males, 12 females, aged (59.0±9.4) years), and 117 cases in the routine surgery group(76 males, 41 females, aged (55.1±8.2) years). To ensure comparability of baseline data between the APOT group and the routine surgery group, a 1∶2 match was performed using the propensity score matching method, and the caliper value was 0.006 45. The t -test,the Mann-Whitney U test, χ 2 test or Fisher's exact test were used to compare the data between the two groups,respectively. Results: After matching the propensity score,there were 28 cases in the APOT group and 56 cases in the routine surgery group. There were no significant differences in gender,age,preoperative comorbidities,preoperative body mass index,surgical approaches,chemotherapy regimen,stereotactic body radiation therapy ratio,tumor markers,and type of invaded artery between the two groups (all P >0.05).The arterial occlusion time M (IQR) in the APOT group was 7.0(3.8)minutes(range:3 to 15 minutes),and no ischemic manifestations were observed in the distal target organs that blocked blood vessels after surgery. The operation time was (170.3±57.7)minutes in the APOT group and (235.0±80.2)minutes in the routine surgery group,and the difference was statistically significant ( t =-3.800, P <0.01). The APOT group also experienced less intraoperative blood loss(650(588)ml vs. 800(600)ml; U =1 026.500, P =0.021). No significant differences were found between the groups in combined vein resection and reconstruction,celiac trunk resection,early postoperative complications, readmission rates at 30 days,and postoperative length of stay(all P >0.05). Extra-arterial dissection was performed in all patients,with arterial resection and reconstruction in 3 cases: 2 cases in the APOT group(1 case involving the superior mesenteric artery and 1 case involving the common hepatic artery) and 1 case in the routine group(involving the common hepatic artery). Postoperative abdominal bleeding occurred in 4 cases,with 3 cases in the routine group,1 case in the routine group. The R0 resection rate was 85.7%(24/28) in the APOT group and 80.4%(45/56) in the routine group,without significant differences between the groups( P =0.763). The median overall survival time was 27.6 months for the APOT group and 22.5 months for the routine group,while the median disease-free survival was 11.7 months and 16.8 months,respectively,with no significant differences between the two groups( P =0.532, P =0.927). Conclusion: The arterial pre-occlusion technique can be used for extra-arterial dissection in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer involving the arteries,reducing surgery time and intraoperative blood loss.

Background: Infertility is a prevalent global condition, and emerging reproductive technologies may enhance its evaluation and treatment. Understanding the current features of randomized clinical trials in infertility is crucial for improving study design and ensuring the translation of results for patient benefits., Objectives: To investigate the primary characteristics of randomized clinical trials related to infertility and areas where require improvement., Materials and Methods: We conducted a search on the International Clinical Trials Registry platform for eligible infertility trials between 2003 and 2022. The distribution ratio of various characteristics uploaded by infertility-related studies on the platform was analyzed and compared according to sex and registration year., Results: Out of the total trials, 85.3% (1,906) included only women, 8.6% (192) included only men, and 6.1% (136) included couples. The majority of retrieved trials followed a parallel arm design (91.0%) and were non-industry-funded (92.2%), with a median planned sample size of 131 patients (interquartile range 75-270). Among these trials, 54.5% (1,217) were conducted in Asia. The most common primary purpose of infertility-related trials was treatment (88.8%), with over half of the investigated interventions focusing on medication (57.9%)., Discussion: Asia is the leading region for research, and the drug therapy is still widely used and updated. However, support care for infertile couples has also received some preference. Areas that require improvement and promotion include addressing male infertility and focusing on underserved regions like Africa. The results also highlight deficiencies in trial registration and masking methods, emphasizing the need for better regulation and facilitation of infertility trials in the post-COVID-19 era., Conclusion: Based on the current status of infertility RCT studies, greater attention should be paid to infertile men and populations in underdeveloped regions like Africa in future studies, together with a standardized registration and implementation procedures., (© 2024 American Society of Andrology and European Academy of Andrology.)

Abstract: Ejaculation is regulated by the central nervous system. However, the central pathophysiology of primary intravaginal anejaculation (PIAJ) is unclear. The present study aimed to examine the changes in regional brain activity and functional connectivity underlying PIAJ. A total of 20 PIAJ patients and 16 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled from September 2020 to September 2022 in the Department of Andrology, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital (Nanjing, China). Magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired from all participants and then were preprocessed. The measures of fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), and functional connectivity (FC) were calculated and compared between the groups. PIAJ patients showed increased fALFF values in the left precuneus compared with HCs. Additionally, PIAJ patients showed increased ReHo values in the left precuneus, left postcentral gyrus, left superior occipital gyrus, left calcarine fissure, right precuneus, and right middle temporal gyrus, and decreased ReHo values in the left inferior parietal gyrus, compared with HCs. Finally, brain regions with altered fALFF and ReHo values in PIAJ patients showed increased FC with widespread cortical regions, which included the frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital regions, compared with HCs. In conclusion, increased regional brain activity in the parietal, temporal, and occipital regions, and increased FC between these brain regions, may be associated with PIAJ occurrence., (Copyright © 2024 Copyright: ©The Author(s)(2024).)

Background: Premature ejaculation (PE) is linked with abnormal brain activity that is modifiable by electroacupuncture (EA)., Aim: In this study we aimed to explore the central pathological mechanism underlying EA in treating PE., Methods: Six-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a PE group (n = 8) and a control group (n = 8) according to ejaculatory frequency during copulatory behavior. All rats underwent EA at the Zusanli acupoint (ST-36) for 4 weeks. Magnetic resonance imaging data were collected before and after EA., Outcomes: The behavioral parameters, plasma norepinephrine levels, fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (fALFF), and regional homogeneity (ReHo) were evaluated., Results: The PE group ejaculated more times with shorter latency compared with controls. After EA, the ejaculation frequency of the PE group decreased, and the ejaculation latency period increased, with no changes observed in the control group. Norepinephrine levels were higher in the PE group than in the controls and were positively correlated with ejaculation frequency and negatively correlated with ejaculation latency. The PE group showed lower fALFF in the right striatum and higher ReHo in the brainstem compared with controls. After EA, controls showed decreased fALFF in the right striatum, left olfactory bulb, and dorsal fornix and increased ReHo in the right interpeduncular nucleus, as well as decreased ReHo in the left striatum, prelimbic system, right basal forebrain region, septal region, and olfactory bulb, while the model group exhibited increased fALFF in the right hypothalamic region, decreased fALFF in the left globus pallidum and right basal forebrain region and increased ReHo in the right interpeduncular nucleus, as well as decreased ReHo in the left striatum, olfactory bulb, basal forebrain region, dentate gyrus, right dysgranular insular cortex, and striatum. Compared with the controls after EA, the model group showed increased ReHo of the right hypothalamic region and decreased ReHo of the right dysgranular insular cortex., Clinical Implications: These findings might enhance the understanding of PE and contribute to new, targeted therapies for PE., Strengths and Limitations: The therapeutic effects might be achieved by EA inhibiting the activity in brain regions involved in ejaculatory behavior. However, the curative effect of acupuncture might be underestimated due to some curative effects of sham acupuncture used in the control group., Conclusion: In conclusion, the ejaculatory frequency of rats may be reduced and ejaculation latency could be extended by EA at ST-36, which might be achieved by the effects of this treatment on brain activity., Competing Interests: All authors declared that they had no conflict of interest., (© The Author(s) 2024. A copper-catalyzed [3+2] annulation reaction of exocyclic enamines/enol ethers with 1,4-benzoquinone esters has been developed, providing facile access to N,O-spiroketals and spiroketals under mild conditions with broad substrate scope (26 examples, 71-94 % yields). Gram scale synthesis and chemical transformations demonstrated that this method is potentially useful in the synthesis of natural products and drugs containing a N,O- spiroketal moiety. Background: In the normal life cycle of the parasite (Echinococcus multilocularis) that causes alveolar echinococcosis, domestic and wild carnivores act as definitive hosts, and rodents act as intermediate hosts. The presented study contributes to the research on the distribution and transmission pattern of E. multilocularis in China having identified sheep as an unusual intermediate host taking part in the domestic transmission of alveolar echinococcosis in Gansu Province, China., Methods: From 2020 to 2021, nine whitish different cyst-like were collected from the liver of sheep in Gansu Province for examination. A near complete mitochondrial (mt) genome and selected nuclear genes were amplified from the cyst-like lesion for identification. To confirm the status of the specimen, comparative analysis with reference sequences, phylogenetic analysis, and network analysis were performed., Results: The isolates displayed ≥ 98.87% similarity to E. multilocularis NADH dehydrogenase sub-unit 1 (nad1) (894 bp) reference sequences deposited in GenBank. Furthermore, amplification of the nad4 and nad2 genes also confirmed all nine samples as E. multilocularis with > 99.30% similarity. Additionally, three nuclear genes, pepck (1545 bp), elp-exons VII and VIII (566 bp), and elp-exon IX (256 bp), were successfully amplified and sequenced for one of the isolates with 98.42% similarity, confirming the isolates were correctly identified as E. multilocularis. Network analysis also correctly placed the isolates with other E. multilocularis., Conclusions: As a result of the discovery of E. multilocularis in an unusual intermediate host, which is considered to have the highest zoonotic potential, the result clearly demonstrated the necessity for expanded surveillance in the area., (© 2023. Developing novel types of high-performance electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitters is of great significance for constructing ultrasensitive ECL sensors. Herein, a highly stable metal-covalent organic framework (MCOF), termed Ru-MCOF, has been devised and synthesized by employing a classic ECL luminophore, tris(4,4'-dicarboxylicacid-2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) (Ru(dcbpy) 3 2+ ), as building unit and applied as a novel ECL probe to construct an ultrasensitive ECL sensor for the first time. Impressively, the topologically ordered and porous architectures of the Ru-MCOF not only allow Ru(bpy) 3 2+ units to precisely locate and homogeneously distribute in the skeleton via strong covalent bonds but also facilitate the transport of co-reactants and electrons/ions in channels to promote the electrochemical activation of both external and internal Ru(bpy) 3 2+ units. All these features endow the Ru-MCOF with excellent ECL emission, high ECL efficiency, and outstanding chemical stability. As expected, the constructed ECL biosensor based on the Ru-MCOF as a high-efficiency ECL probe accomplishes the ultrasensitive detection of microRNA-155. Overall, the synthesized Ru-MCOF not only enriches the MCOF family but also displays excellent ECL performance and thus expands the application of MCOFs in bioassays. Considering the structural diversity and tailorability of MCOFs, this work opens a new horizon to design and synthesize high-performance ECL emitters, therefore paving a new way to develop highly stable and ultrasensitive ECL sensors and motivating further research on MCOFs.

The identification of additional Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (s.l.) complex species/genotypes in recent years raises the possibility that there might be more variation among this species in China than is currently understood. The aim of this study was to explore intra- and inter-species variation and population structure of Echinococcus species isolated from sheep in three areas of Western China. Of the isolates, 317, 322, and 326 were successfully amplified and sequenced for cox1, nad1, and nad5 genes, respectively. BLAST analysis revealed that the majority of the isolates were E. granulosus s.s., and using the cox1, nad1, and nad5 genes, respectively, 17, 14, and 11 isolates corresponded to Elodea canadensis (genotype G6/G7). In the three study areas, G1 genotypes were the most prevalent. There were 233 mutation sites along with 129 parsimony informative sites. A transition/transversion ratio of 7.5, 8, and 3.25, respectively, for cox1, nad1, and nad5 genes was obtained. Every mitochondrial gene had intraspecific variations, which were represented in a star-like network with a major haplotype with observable mutations from other distant and minor haplotypes. The Tajima's D value was significantly negative in all populations, indicating a substantial divergence from neutrality and supporting the demographic expansion of E. granulosus s.s. in the study areas. The phylogeny inferred by the maximum likelihood (ML) method using nucleotide sequences of cox1-nad1-nad5 further confirmed their identity. The nodes assigned to the G1, G3, and G6 clades as well as the reference sequences utilized had maximal posterior probability values (1.00). In conclusion, our study confirms the existence of a significant major haplotype of E. granulosus s.s. where G1 is the predominant genotype causing of CE in both livestock and humans in China., (© 2023. Objective: Attractin (ATRN) is a widely expressed member of the cell adhesion and guidance protein family in humans that is closely related to cellular immunity and neurodevelopment. However, while previous studies in our laboratory have confirmed the effect of ATRN mutations on long-term memory, its specific role and the molecular mechanism by which it influences spatial cognition are poorly understood., Methods: This study aimed to examine the effect of ATRN mutations on working memory in water maze with a novel ATRN-mutant rat generated by the CRISPR/Cas9 system; the mutation involved the substitution of the 505th amino acid, glycine (G), with cysteine (C), namely, a mutation from GGC to TGC. The changes in myelin basic protein (MBP) expression in rats were also analyzed with the western blot., Results: The ATRN-G505C(KI/KI) rats exhibited significant increases in the required latency and distance traveled to locate the escape platform in a Morris water maze test of working memory. In addition, the expression of MBP was reduced in ATRN-mutant rats, as shown in the western blot analysis., Conclusion: Our results indicate that ATRN gene mutations may directly lead to the impairment of working memory in the water maze; this impairment may be due to the inhibition of MBP expression, which in turn affects the spatial cognition., (© 2023 The Authors. The clinical data of 20 patients with blunt high-grade pancreatic trauma who were admitted to the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery of Changhai Hospital Affiliated to Naval Military Medical University from December 2003 to February 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 15 males and 5 females with a median age of 39 years (range: 14-54 years). The degree of pancreatic injury was graded according to the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) scale, including 10 cases of grade Ⅲ (50%), 8 cases of grade Ⅳ (40%), and 2 cases of grade Ⅴ (10%). Then, the strategy of diagnosis and treatment for blunt high-grade pancreatic trauma was summarized. The diagnostic rate of CT was 78.9%. Finally, 17 cases (85%) were cured and 3 cases (15%) died. Among the 10 patients with grade Ⅲ pancreatic injury, 7 cases received distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy, 1 case received distal pancreatectomy with spleen preserved, 1 case received pancreatic duct stent placement under endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD), and 1 case received only PCD. Among 8 cases of grade Ⅳ, 3 cases underwent Roux-en-Y pancreaticojejunostomy, 1 case received distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy, 1 case underwent distal pancreatectomy with spleen preserved, 2 cases received necrotic tissue removal+external drainage of pancreatic duct+abdominal drainage, and 1 case received exploratory laparotomy and gauze packing hemostasis. For 2 cases of grade Ⅴ, 1 underwent pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, and the other case underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy combined with right hemicolectomy and splenectomy. Therefore, the treatment of blunt high-grade pancreatic trauma should follow the individualized treatment strategy, pay attention to the control of bleeding, extensive external drainage, appropriate debridement and resection and rational application of damage control surgery, select appropriate patients for conservative treatment, and ultimately benefit the patient.

Stem cells (SCs) research has experienced exponential growth in recent years. SC-based treatments can enhance the lives of people suffering from cardiac ischemia, Alzheimer's disease, and regenerative drug conditions, like bone or loss of teeth. Numerous kinds of progenitor/SCs have been hypothesized to depend on their potential to regain and/or heal wounded tissue and partly recover organ function. Growing data suggest that SCs (SCs) are concentrated in functions and that particular tissues have more SCs. Dental tissues, in particular, are considered a significant cause of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) cells appropriate for tissue regeneration uses. Tissue regeneration and SCs biology have particular attention in dentistry because they may give a novel method for creating clinical material and/or tissue redevelopment. Dental pulp, dental papilla, periodontal ligament, and dental follicle contain mesenchymal SCs. Such SCs, which must be identified and cultivated in specific tissue culture environments, may be used in tissue engineering applications such as tooth tissue, nerve regeneration, and bone redevelopment. A new cause of SCs, induced pluripotent SCs, was successfully made from human somatic cells, enabling the generation of the patient and disease-specific SCs. The dental SC's (DSCs) multipotency, rapid proliferation rate, and accessibility make it an ideal basis of MSC for tissue redevelopment. The paper introduces professor GAO Shu-zhong 's experience in qiguan (umbilicus pass) theory and its clinical application. Professor GAO believes that the umbilicus is the "pass" where the primary qi of sanjiao transported from the lower jiao to the middle jiao . It is the general pivot of qi transformation of yin and yang , as well as the place for qi ascending, descending, exiting and entering in the human body. Hence, the umbilicus is called qiguan (umbilicus pass). In clinical practice, associated with observation, palpation and pulse diagnosis, the qiguan theory is conductive to disease diagnosis. Moreover, the therapeutic methods for promoting qiguan is generated, i.e. umbilicus-acupuncture therapy and umbilicus-moxibustion therapy. In the umbilicus-acupuncture therapy, Gao 's umbilicus five points (umbilicus heart, umbilicus stomach, umbilicus liver, umbilicus kidney and umbilicus lung) are commonly selected. With the umbilicus- moxibustion therapy, the isolated moxibustion with different herbal materials is exerted at the umbilicus, in which, the herbal materials with drastic medical action, pungent and fragrant in flavor and warm in property are specially selected.

Making a hydrogel-based first-aid bandage with green resources, desirable biocompatibility, universal adhesive properties, low cost and simple production is a long-standing research aspiration. Considering this, three naturally existing organic acids, namely tannic acid, thioctic acid and phytic acid, were used to construct a novel adhesive gel (TATAPA hydrogel) for epidermal tissue bandage applications. This hydrogel could be synthesized under mild conditions with no need for a freeze-thawing shaping procedure, and was transparent, moldable and stretchable with good stability under continuous water immersion. In lap-shear tests, the TATAPA hydrogel could adhere to various hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces. Moreover, in the case of skin tissue adhesion, the hydrogel could be easily peeled off from the skin, meeting wearability requirements. Rheological tests showed that the hydrogel possessed thermal sensitive properties derived from multi-supramolecular interactions. The methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected burn wound test demonstrated that the hydrogel had desirable antibacterial activity and was beneficial for wound healing. A femoral artery bleeding assay was also used to reveal that the TATAPA hydrogel could be directly pasted onto the bleeding site for hemostasis. Overall, this hydrogel demonstrates potential as a surgical bioadhesive for a broad range of medical applications.

In the present study, a new species of the genus Moniliformis species is described taxonomically in the mitochondrial genomic context. The parasite was found in a plateau zokor captured in a high-altitude area of Xiahe County of Gansu Province, China. The mitochondrial ( mt ) genome length of this new species was 14,066 bp comprising 36 genes and 2 additional non-coding regions (SNR and LNR), without atp 8. The molecular phylogeny inferred by the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene ( cox 1) and the18S ribosomal RNA gene (18S rDNA) sequences showed that the parasite as a sister species to other Moniliformis spp. and was named Moniliformis sp. XH-2020. The phylogeny of the concatenated amino acid sequences of the 12 protein-coding genes (PCGs) showed Moniliformis sp. XH-2020 in the same cluster as Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus and Oncicola luehe i confirming the cox 1 and 18S rDNA phylogenetic inference. In addition, the entire mt genome sequenced in this study represents the first in the order Moniliformida, providing molecular material for further study of the phylogeny of the class Archiacanthocephala. Moreover, the species of this class, use arthropods as intermediate hosts and mammals as definitive hosts and are agents of acanthocephaliasis, a zoonosis in humans. Electric vehicle development is critical to achieve the sustainable goals, while the hit of COVID-19 strikes the market and brings challenges to the whole industry. China, among one of the earliest regions affected by COVID-19 and takes a great part in the global electric vehicle market, is attracting growing attention on its post-pandemic trends in the electric vehicle industry. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of COVID-19 impacts on China's electric vehicle industry from both the demand side and the supply side. Both challenges and opportunities for China's electric vehicle development are revealed with emerging trend analysis. It is found that the COVID-19 outbreak has reduced electric vehicle sales in the short-term, but may also stimulate future electric vehicle demand especially for large electric cars with better performance. Meanwhile, travel restrictions caused by COVID-19 have interrupted electric vehicle material supplies that relying on imports, accelerating domestic substitute exploitation and inventory improvement for critical parts. Additionally, massive lockdowns for controlling COVID-19 have disrupted productions and operations, which tends to expel small brands out of the competitive market, concentrating China's electric vehicle industry to the leading brands. Finally, the social distancing trend after pandemic is bringing challenges to traditional EV distribution channels with dealers, pushing automakers to develop innovative online selling channels. Objective: To evaluate the performance of the European Evidence-based Guidelines on Pancreatic Cystic Neoplasms (EEGPCN)(2018) and International Association of Pancreatology(IAP) Guideline(Version 2017) in predicting high grade dysplasia/invasive carcinoma-intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm(HGD/INV-IPMN). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 363 patients,who underwent surgical resection in Changhai Hospital affiliated to Navy Medical University from January 2012 to December 2018 and were pathologically identified as (intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, IPMN),was performed. The patients,including 230 males and 133 females,aging (61.7±10.1) years(range:19 to 83 years). The proportion of HGD/INV-IPMN who met with the absolute indication(AI) of EEGPCN and high risk stigma(HRS) of IAP were compared. The binary Logistic regression analysis was used to find the independent risk factors of HGD/INV-IPMN.Eight combinations of risk factors derived from relative indication/worrisome feature or risk factors in this study,were made to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy. The area under curve(AUC) of receiver operating characteristics was used to evaluate the the cutoff value of risk factors(①CA19-9≥37 U/ml,②diameter of main pancreatic duct 5.0-9.9 mm,③enhancing mural nodule<5 mm,④(acute) pancreatiti,⑤ a cyst diameter ≥40 mm,⑤ b cyst diameter ≥30 mm, ⑥thickened or enhancing cyst walls,⑦neutrophile granulocyte to lymphocyte ratio(NLR)≥2, ⑧cyst located in head, uncinate or neck,⑨carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) ≥5 μg/L) number for predicting HGD/INV-IPMN.The accuracy,sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,negative predictive value,true positive,true negative,false positive,false negative,positive likelihood ratio,negative likelihood ratio,Youden index and F1 score were calculated. Results: Ninety-two patients(49.5%) of 186 ones who met AI and 85 patients(48.3%) of 176 ones who met HRS were respectively confirmed as HGD/INV-IPMN. In those patients who were not met AI,tumor location,thickened/enhancing cyst wall,CA19-9 elevated,NLR≥2 and CEA elevated were significantly ( P <0.05) correlated with HGD/INV-IPMN. And tumor location(head/uncinate/neck vs. body/tail, OR =3.284,95% CI :1.268-8.503, P =0.014),thickened/enhancement cyst wall (with vs. without, OR =2.713,95% CI :1.177-6.252, P =0.019),CA19-9(≥37 U/L vs. <37 U/L, OR =5.086,95% CI :2.05-12.62, P <0.01) and NLR(≥2 vs. <2, OR =2.380,95% CI :1.043-5.434, P =0.039) were the independent risk factors of HGD/INV-IPMN. Patients with ≥4 risk factors of 9 in combination Ⅷ(①②③④⑤ b ⑥⑦⑧⑨) were diagnosed as HGD/INV-IPMN with the moderate accuracy(71.0%),moderate sensitivity (62.0%) and moderate specificity (73.0%). Patients with ≥4 risk factors of 9 in Combination Ⅶ(①②③④⑤ a ⑥⑦⑧⑨) were diagnosed as HGD/INV-IPMN with the highest specificity(83.0%) and patients with ≥3 risk factors of 8 in combination Ⅵ(①②③④⑤ b ⑥⑧⑨) were diagnosed as HGD/INV-IPMN with the highest sensitivity(74.0%). The AUC for diagnosis of HGD/INV-IPMN in combination Ⅵ,Ⅶ and Ⅷ were 0.72,0.75 and 0.75,respectively. Older patients and younger patients could respectively refer to combination Ⅶ and combination Ⅵ to improve the management of IPMN. Conclusions: Patients who meet AI of EEGPCN should undertake resection, otherwise the method we explored is recommended. The method of improvement for diagnosis of HGD/INV-IPMN is relatively applicable and efficient for decision-making of surgery, especially for younger patients with decreasing of missed diagnosis and elder patients with decreasing of misdiagnosis.

Damaged tissue with an open wound is one of the daily injuries and can have different levels of severity. Inspired by the textile dyeing, coloration and skin care effect of pyrogallol-rich red wine, tannic acid-KH561 (TA561) copolymer was fabricated by phenol-silanol reaction and polycondensation of silane in an aqueous medium under mild conditions. This copolymer could undergo sol-gel transition via continuous heating or when simply placed at room temperature, during which liquid TA561 oligomers connected with each other to form solid TA561 as a bulk resin or thin film. Combining the advantages of the polyphenols and polysiloxane, TA561 can be used as an adhesive for multiple surfaces, including wood, polytetrafluoroethylene, poly(vinyl chloride), aluminum chips and silicon rubber. Furthermore, TA561 also possessed reducing activity towards Ag + or Au 3+ ions to form the corresponding nanoparticles. An in vivo antimicrobial ability test indicated that TA561 could promote wound healing and showed resistance to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection in comparison with KH561. Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy may benefit patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with resectable and borderline disease. Inappropriate use of neoadjuvant therapy, however, may lead to the loss of therapeutic opportunities. Until an effective prediction model of individual drug sensitivity is established, no accurate model exists to help surgeons decide on the appropriate use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. We hypothesized that early recurrence in patients undergoing upfront, early resection may be an indication for neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Therefore, we aimed to use preoperative clinical parameters to establish a model of early recurrence to select patients at high risk for neoadjuvant chemotherapy., Methods: Patients who underwent resection for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma between January 2014 and November 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. After the minimum P-value approach, the patients were divided into three groups: early recurrence, middle recurrence, and late/non-recurrence. Preoperative clinicopathologic factors that could predict early recurrence were included in a Cox proportional hazards regression model for univariate and multivariate analyses. The factors related to early recurrence were included to establish nomogram and decision tree models, which were then validated in 68 patients., Results: We found that 235 (72.5%) of 324 patients had recurrence with a median recurrence-free survival of 210 days. The early recurrence, middle recurrence, and late/non-recurrence groups differed in preoperative carbohydrate antigen 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen levels, "resectability" on cross-sectional imaging, resection requiring a vascular resection, T stage, tumor size, and adjuvant chemotherapy. The best cutoff value of early recurrence was the first 162 days postoperatively. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that selected preoperative chief complaints, lymph node enlargement and resectability on cross-sectional imaging, preoperative carbohydrate antigen 19-9 levels >210 kU/L, and a neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio >4.2 were independent predictors for early recurrence., Conclusion: We have successfully built a prediction model of early recurrence of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with the optimal cutoff early-recurrence value of 162 days. Our nomogram and decision tree models may be used to select those at high risk for early recurrence to guide preoperative decision-making concerning the use of neoadjuvant therapy in those patients who have "resectable" disease and not only the more classic criteria of borderline resectability., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Inc. Tannic acid (TA) based materials have received significant interest owing to their broad spectrum of chemical and biological properties. Herein, a novel tannic acid based hydrogel, TA-PEG hydrogel, was synthesized via Mitsunobu polymerization/polycondensation, in which TA and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were simply crosslinked together by ether linkages. This method was performed in one pot, straightforward, metal free and robust, ignoring the strong ionic/hydrophobic interactions between tannic acid and PEG. Bearing catechol and pyrogallol units from TA, TA-PEG hydrogel did not only reduce the silver and gold precursor, but also served as a capping agent and stabilizer for the in situ formed Au and Ag nanoparticles (NPs). Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of the hydrogel was excellent (94%) in the case of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging. TA-PEG hydrogel also showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli . This work suggested a new method leading to polyphenol based soft materials rather than a complex coacervated microstructure. Objective: To examine the prognostic value of four important driver gene mutations in patients with radical resection of pancreatic cancer. Methods: The clinical data and follow-up data of pancreatic cancer patients undergoing radical pancreatectomy and targeted sequencing from January 2016 to March 2018 at Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, Changhai Hospital were retrospectively analyzed.There were 159 males and 88 females,aged of (60.8±8.7)years(range:33-83 years) and preoperative CA19-9 of (492.4±496.6)kU/L(range: 2-1 200 kU/L). One hundred and fifty nine cases of tumors were located in the head and 88 cases in the body and tail of the pancreas. After univariate analysis of clinical pathological factors (including gender, age, preoperative CA19-9, tumor location, tumor differentiation, pathological T and N stage, Micr. perineural invasion, Micr. lympho -vascular invasion, resection margin), the variable whose P< 0.1 was included in COX regression model with four important driver gene mutations to find which mutation was related to prognosis independently. The number of gene mutations and KRAS subgroups were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier curve. Results: Among 247 patients,the number of KRAS,TP53, SMAD4 and CDKN2A mutations was 212 cases(85.8%), 160 cases(64.8%), 66 cases(26.7%) and 44 cases(17.8%),respectively.KRAS mutation was correlated with the tumor differentiation and pathological T stage (χ(2)=24.570/6.690, P= 0.000/0.035), TP53 mutation was correlated with the tumor differentiation and the resected margin(χ(2)=5.500/4.620, P= 0.019/0.032), and CDKN2A mutation was correlated with gender(χ(2)=16.574, P= 0.000).COX regression model analysis showed that only KRAS mutation was an independent risk factor for disease free survival and overall survival( HR =1.776, 95 %CI : 1.079-2.923, P= 0.024; HR =1.923, 95 %CI : 1.016-3.639, P= 0.045); KRAS(G12D) mutation was associated with shorter OS( P= 0.007). Conclusion: KRAS and its subgroup KRAS(G12D) mutation can be used as a prognostic index for patients with radical resection of pancreatic cancer.

BPH is a common and frequently-occurring disease of the urinary system. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) is the most common mutation in the genome and has an impact on the pathogenesis, progression and prognosis of BPH in different populations. We reviewed the published literature on BPH-related SNPs, expounded the roles of different SNPs in the development and progression of BPH, and summarized the current status and existing problems in the related studies and the prospects of its clinical application.

Xinjiang is at the crossroads between East and West Eurasia, and it harbors a relatively complex genetic history. In order to better understand the population movements and interactions in this region, mitochondrial and Y chromosome analyses on 40 ancient human remains from the Tianshanbeilu site in eastern Xinjiang were performed. Twenty-nine samples were successfully assigned to specific mtDNA haplogroups, including the west Eurasian maternal lineages of U and W and the east Eurasian maternal lineages of A, C, D, F, G, Z, M7, and M10. In the male samples, two Y chromosome haplogroups, C* and N1 (xN1a, N1c), were successfully assigned. Our mitochondrial and Y-chromosomal DNA analyses combined with the archaeological studies revealed that the Di-qiang populations from the Hexi Corridor had migrated to eastern Xinjiang and admixed with the Eurasian steppe populations in the early Bronze Age., (© 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Objective. To explore the efficacy and mechanism of primary dysmenorrhea patients were treated with herb-partitioned moxibustion through metabonomics. Methods. 20 patients with primary dysmenorrhea were randomized into two groups, separately treated with herb-partitioned moxibustion at CV8 (shenque) and acupuncture at SP6 (sanyinjiao). After three menstrual cycles' treatment, the intensity of menstrual pain using VAS and the changes of metabolites of plasma using LC-MS were observed. Results. The VAS of two groups decreased with different descending range. Herb-partitioned moxibustion upregulated 20α-dihydroprogesterone, pregnenolone, prostaglandin E2 and γ-aminobutyric acid and downregulated the content of estrone and prostaglandin H2, while acupuncture upregulated pregnenolone and 20α-dihydroprogesterone and downregulated 2-methoxyestradiol-3-methylether, 15-hydroxyeicosatrienoic acid and 6-keto-prostaglandin. Discussion. It was effective in relieving the abdominal pain by these two therapies. Herb-partitioned moxibustion is superior to acupuncture for primary dysmenorrhea, which could be related to regulating the endocrine hormone.

In order to further improve the curative effect of the herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus, we collected a wide range of literature on herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus and then systematically arranged them to analyze and summarize the technology and operating methods of herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus. We also briefly discussed issues on application of medicine, locust tree skin and ginger, the method of kneading dough for medical uses, and the appropriate size of moxa cone and its using frequency in order to form clear concepts and standardized operations to provide theories and operational basis for the clinical application of modern herb-participated moxibustion on umbilicus.

To further explore the clinical effect of massage therapy on navel,the related ancient literatures were arranged and analyzed,and several methods in ancient clinical were introduced, including stroking navel, rubbing navel, pushing navel, tapping navel and puffing navel. In addition, the theoretical basis of massage therapy on navel were discussed. The results revealed ancient literatures offered abundant theoretical basis to modern clinical practice, and there were evidences of treating gastroenteric and gynecological diseases with this therapy. Comprehensively, through the study of ancient literatures and modern research, therapy of massage on navel is believed to be promising and will gain popularity in the future.

Background: Acupuncture is often used for primary dysmenorrhea. But there is no convincing evidence due to low methodological quality. We aim to assess immediate effect of acupuncture at specific acupoint compared with unrelated acupoint and nonacupoint on primary dysmenorrhea., Methods: The Acupuncture Analgesia Effect in Primary Dysmenorrhoea-II is a multicenter controlled trial conducted in six large hospitals of China. Patients who met inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to classic acupoint (N = 167), unrelated acupoint (N = 167), or non-acupoint (N = 167) group on a 1:1:1 basis. They received three sessions with electro-acupuncture at a classic acupoint (Sanyinjiao, SP6), or an unrelated acupoint (Xuanzhong, GB39), or nonacupoint location, respectively. The primary outcome was subjective pain as measured by a 100-mm visual analog scale (VAS). Measurements were obtained at 0, 5, 10, 30, and 60 minutes following the first intervention. In addition, patients scored changes of general complaints using Cox retrospective symptom scales (RSS-Cox) and 7-point verbal rating scale (VRS) during three menstrual cycles. Secondary outcomes included VAS score for average pain, pain total time, additional in-bed time, and proportion of participants using analgesics during three menstrual cycles., Findings: Five hundred and one people underwent random assignment. The primary comparison of VAS scores following the first intervention demonstrated that classic acupoint group was more effective both than unrelated acupoint (-4.0 mm, 95% CI -7.1 to -0.9, P = 0.010) and nonacupoint (-4.0 mm, 95% CI -7.0 to -0.9, P = 0.012) groups. However, no significant differences were detected among the three acupuncture groups for RSS-Cox or VRS outcomes. The per-protocol analysis showed similar pattern. No serious adverse events were noted., Conclusion: Specific acupoint acupuncture produced a statistically, but not clinically, significant effect compared with unrelated acupoint and nonacupoint acupuncture in primary dysmenorrhea patients. The objective of this study was to investigate the regulatory mechanism underlying the increased muscle protein accumulation in pigs while were fed a high protein diet. The eukaryotic initiation factors (eIFs) have been reported to involve in muscle protein synthesis. We investigated the mRNA and protein expression levels of eIF2B1, 4A1, 4B and 4E in Wujin pigs fed either a high protein (HP: 18%) or a low protein (LP: 14%) diet at 30, 60 or 100 kg body weight, based on real-time PCR and western blotting analyses. Our results indicated that the expression levels of eIF2B1 mRNA and protein were increased by HP diet at all body weight. The HP diet showed higher mRNA and protein levels of eIF4B gene at 60 and 100 kg. The protein expression of eIF4E phosphorylation was increased by HP diet only at 30 kg. These data suggested that the HP diet promoted porcine muscle protein accumulation mainly by up-regulating eIF2B1, 4B and 4E rather than 4A1 expression along the growth stages., (Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition © 2013 Blackwell Verlag GmbH.)

Objective: To explore the efficacy and the reproductive endocrinal mechanism of herbal-partitioned moxibustion in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea., Methods: One hundred and seventy-one cases of primary dysmenorrhea were randomized into an herbal-partitioned moxibustion group (group A), an starch-partitioned moxibustion group (group B) and an acupuncture group (group C), 57 cases in each one. In the group A, moxibustion isolated with herbal medicine was applied to Shenque (CV 8). In the group B, moxibustion isolated with starch was used at Shenque (CV 8). In the group C, acupuncture was given at Sanyinjiao (SP 6). The changes of estradiol (E2), progesterone (P) and prostaglandin levels (PGF2alpha) were observed before and after treatment, and the therapeutic effects were compared among the 3 groups., Results: The therapeutic effect in the group A was better than those in the other two groups [compared the cured rate: 89.8% (44/49) vs 60.0% (30/50), 60.4% (32/53), both P < 0.05]. In the group A, E2 level [(110.99 +/- 12.90) pg/mL vs (83.94 +/- 8.91) pg/mL, P < 0.05] and PGF2alpha level [(24.58 +/- 3.01) pg/mL vs (14.34 +/- 1.48) pg/mL, P < 0.01] were decreased and P level was increased [(4.65 +/- 0.68) ng/mL vs (6.68 +/- 0.95) pg/mL, P < 0.05]. In the group B and C, PGF2alpha level were reduced. Concerning to the regulating of E2 and PGF2alpha levels, the results in the group A were better than those in the group B and C [(-30.16 +/- 10.20) pg/mL vs (10.79 +/- 15.01) pg/mL, (22.81 +/- 12.22) pg/mL; (-13.10 +/- 2.40) pg/mL vs (-6.52 +/- 1.88) pg/mL, (-3.14 +/- 1.19) pg/mL, (see text) P < 0.05]. Concerning to the regulation of P level, the results in the group A and B were better than that in the group C (all P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The herbal-partitioned moxibustion achieves the significant efficacy on primary dysmenorrhea, which could be related to regulating the reproductive endocrinal level. It decreases E2 and PGF2alpha levels and increases P level.

Objective: To observe the clinical therapeutic effects of acupuncture at single point Shiqizhui (EX-B8) and multi-points in time-varying treatment for primary dysmenorrhea., Methods: 600 patients with primary dysmenorrhea were randomly assigned to the single point group (n=200) including group A (treating before the menstruation, n=100) and group B (immediately treating as soon as pain occurrence, n=100), the multi-points group (n=200) including group C (treating before the menstruation, n=100) and group D (immediately treating as soon as pain occurrence, n=100), or the control group, group E (n=200, no treatment). The therapeutic effects were analyzed after treatment for three menstrual cycles and interviewed for three follow-up periods., Results: Acupuncture could effectively relieve menstrual pain for primary dysmenorrhea compared with the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Immediate pain relief occurred following acupuncture within 5 min in group B (P<0.01) and group D (P<0.01), and the two groups obviously relieved menstrual pain for VAS scores. Both group A and group C obviously relieved menstrual pain (P<0.01), and group C was better than group A (P<0.05). Compared with group D, Group C was much better for CMSS scores in cycle 1., Conclusion: Treating before the menstruation is better than immediately treating as soon as pain occurrence at the improvement in symptoms of dysmenorrheal at multi-points. And single point is better than multi-points when immediately treating as soon as pain occurrence. There are some proteins on the surfaces of lipid droplets (LDs) in the cells which could regulate the lipogenesis and lipolysis, and play an important role in lipid metabolism of the whole body. Comparative gene identification-58 (CGI-58), distributing predominantly on the surface of LDs, which is a member of the α/β-hydrolase folding family and an activator of adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) and acyl-CoA-dependent lysophosphatidic acid acyltransfer (LPAAT). CGI-58 promotes lipolysis by combining with perilipin which is a member of the PAT family and ATGL. At the same time, the function of CGI-58 to activate ATGL is influenced by protein-protein interaction with the members of the perilipin family. This paper reviews the CGI-58 function in lipid metabolism of animals considering the hot topics.

Objective. To explore the efficacy of Herb-partitioned moxibustion in treating IBS-D patients. Method. 210 IBS-D patients were randomly assigned on a 3 : 3 : 2 basis to group HM, group FM, or group PB for 4-week treatment. The change of GSRS total score at weeks 4 and 8, the changes of GSRS specific scores, and adverse events were evaluated. Results. Patients in group HM and group FM had lower GSRS total score at week 4 (1.98 ± 0.303, 2.93 ± 0.302 versus 3.73 ± 0.449) and at week 8 (2.75 ± 0.306, 3.56 ± 0.329 versus 4.39 ± 2.48) as compared with patients' score in group PB. However, there was no significant difference of GSRS total score between group HM and group FM. The effect of HM was significantly greater than that of orally taking PB in ameliorating the symptoms of rugitus (0.38 versus 0.59, P < 0.05), abdominal pain (0.28 versus 0.57, P < 0.01), abdominal distension (0.4 versus 0.7, P < 0.01), and increased passage of stools (0.06 versus 0.25, P < 0.01) at the end of treatment period. In the follow-up period, patients' therapeutic effect in group HM remained greater than that in group FM (in abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and increased passage of stools) and that in group PB (in loose stools). Conclusions. HM appears to be a promising, efficacious, and well-tolerated treatment for patients with IBS-D.

Intramuscular fat (IMF) content plays an important role in meat quality. Triglyceride (TG) metabolism in intramuscular adipocytes is strongly associated with the intramuscular fat deposition. To better understand the mechanisms leading to IMF deposition we compared the expression levels of genes related to preadipocyte differentiation and lipogenesis in the intramuscular preadipocytes isolated from the longissimus muscle of Wujin and Landrace pigs. The results showed that the intramuscular preadipocytes could differentiate into mature adipocytes in vitro. Triglyceride content in adipocytes isolated from Wujin pigs was higher than Landrace pigs during the middle and later phases of preadipocyte differentiation. The expression levels of genes related to preadipocyte differentiation such as PPARG and CEBPA showed differential expression between Wujin and Landrace porcine adipocytes during the early stage of differentiation. The expression levels of lipogenic genes such as FASN and SREBF1 were significantly higher in Wujin porcine intramuscular preadipocytes than in Landrace intramuscular preadipocytes at the middle and the later stages of differentiation. Intramuscular fat (IMF) content plays an important role in meat quality. Many genes involved in lipid and energy metabolism were identified as candidate genes for IMF deposition, since genetic polymorphisms within these genes were associated with IMF content. However, there is less information on the expression levels of these genes in the muscle tissue. This study aimed at investigating the expression levels of sterol regulating element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c), diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT-1), heart-fatty acids binding protein (H-FABP), leptin receptor (LEPR) and melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) genes and proteins in two divergent Banna mini-pig inbred lines (BMIL). A similar growth performance was found in both the fat and the lean BMIL. The fat meat and IMF content in the fat BMIL were significantly higher than in the lean BMIL, but the lean meat content was lower. The serum triacylglycerol (TAG) and free fatty acid (FFA) contents were significantly higher in the fat than in the lean BMIL. The expression levels of SREBP-1c, DGAT-1 and H-FABP genes and proteins in fat BMIL were increased compared to the lean BMIL. However, the expression levels of LEPR and MC4R genes and proteins were lower.

Three novel ovine genes were obtained from muscle full-length cDNA library of black-boned sheep. Sequence analysis revealed that nucleotide sequences of these genes were not homologous to any of the known sheep or goat genes, but these genes have high similarity to ATP synthase subunit O (ATP5O), NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) 1 alpha subcomplex, 12 (NDUFA12) and ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase hinge protein (UQCRH) genes of other mammal animals (accession number: FJ546085, FJ546078 and FJ546083). The alignment analysis showed that the ovine ATP5O, NDUFA12 and UQCRH genes and proteins have closer genetic relationships with the ATP5O, NDUFA12 and UQCRH genes and proteins from cattle. Conserved domain prediction showed that these three genes included OSCP, NDUFA12 superfamily and UCR-hinge superfamily domains respectively. The deduced sequence of ATP5O, NDUFA12 and UQCRH protein had 213, 145 and 91 amino acid residues, with a molecular weight of approximately 23419.66, 17089.50 and 10657.75 Da and a theoretical isoelectric point of 9.90, 9.68 and 4.45. The secondary structure prediction revealed that 60% helix structure in ATP5O, 60% coils in NDUFA12 and no strand in UQCRH. One potential signal peptide structure in ATP5O protein were found. NDUFA12 and UQCRH have the extremely low possibility of signal peptides. Meanwhile, RasMol was used for visualizing the PDB files generated by Swiss-Model in cartoon or three-dimensional format. ATP5O and UQCRH protein were modeled by Swiss-Model. Tissue expression profile indicated that the ovine ATP5O, NDUFA12 and UQCRH genes could be expressed in all detected tissues including muscles, heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney and adipose tissues, but the expression abundance of these genes were various in the different tissues. Our experiment supplied the primary foundation for further researches on these three ovine genes.

Objective: To compare the different therapeutic effect between acupuncture at Shiqizhui (EX-B 8) only and multi acupoints on dysmenorrhea., Methods: Thirty eight cases were randomly divided into a single acupoint group and a multi-acupoints group, 19 cases in each group. The single acupoint group was treated by acupuncture at Shiqizhui (EX-B 8) only, and the multi-acupoints group by acupuncture at Shiqizhui (EX-B 8), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Diji (SP 8), Ciliao (BL 32). They were all treated from the first day when sudden intense pain occurs, one time each day, for 3 days in each menstrual cycle, the treatment of three menstrual cycles. The therapeutic effect and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were compared and the score of general frequency and severity of dysmenorrhea by using Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale (CMSS) were evaluated., Results: The cured rate was 68.4% (13/19) and the effective rate was 31.6% (6/19) in the single acupoint group, being similar to 78.9% (15/19) and 21.1% (4/19) in the multi-acupoints group (P > 0.05). VAS and the scores of general frequency and severity of dysmenorrhea were all significantly decreased after treatment in both groups (all P < 0.001), with no significant difference between the two groups (all P > 0.05)., Conclusion: Acupuncture at Shiqizhui (EX-B 8) only can be as effective as selecting multi-acupoints to cure essential dysmenorrhea.

Han Chinese is the largest ethnic group in the world. During its development, it gradually integrated with many neighboring populations. To uncover the origin of the Han Chinese, ancient DNA analysis was performed on the remains of 46 humans (1700 to 1900 years ago) excavated from the Taojiazhai site in Qinghai province, northwest of China, where the Di-Qiang populations had previously lived. In this study, eight mtDNA haplogroups (A, B, D, F, M*, M10, N9a, and Z) and one Y-chromosome haplogroup (O3) were identified. All analyses show that the Taojiazhai population presents close genetic affinity to Tibeto-Burman populations (descendants of Di-Qiang populations) and Han Chinese, suggesting that the Di-Qiang populations may have contributed to the Han Chinese genetic pool., (2010 Wiley-Liss, Inc.)

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare immediate effect of acupuncture at SP6 on uterine arterial blood flow in primary dysmenorrhea with that of GB39., Design: This was a prospective, randomized clinical trial., Setting: Sixty-six (66) patients with primary dysmenorrhea from the Affiliated Hospital of Shangdong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were recruited., Interventions: The SP6 group (n =32) was treated with manual acupuncture at bilateral SP6 for 5 minutes after obtaining needling sensation (de qi) during the period of menstrual pain, whereas the control group (n = 34) was needled at GB39 of both sides for 5 minutes when they suffered menstrual pain., Main Outcome Measures: Differences in pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI), and ratio of systolic peak and diastolic peak (A/B) in uterine arteries were the main outcome measures., Results: Highly significant reductions were observed in the SP6 treatment group 5 minutes after treatment in menstrual pain scores (8.17 ± 1.90 versus 11.20 ± 2.66; p < 0.001), values of PI (1.75 ± 0.48 versus 2.32 ± 0.70; p < 0.001), RI (0.72 ± 0.11 versus 0.78 ± 0.07; p < 0.001), and A/B (4.33 ± 1.37 versus 5.23 ± 1.67; p < 0.001). Compared with the GB39 control group, patients in the SP6 treatment group showed significant reductions in 5 minutes after treatment in the changes of menstrual pain scores (3.03 ± 2.36 versus 0.00 ± 0.29; p < 0.001), values of PI (0.57 ± 0.42 versus -0.10 ± 0.58; p < 0.001), RI (0.06 ± 0.08 versus -0.03 ± 0.15; p < 0.01), and A/B (0.90 ± 0.87 versus 0.23 ± 1.02; p < 0.01). There were no significant changes in menstrual pain scores, values of PI, RI, or A/B before and after treatment in the GB39 control group (p > 0.05). No adverse events from treatment were reported., Conclusions: This study suggests that needling at SP6 can immediately improve uterine arterial blood flow of patients with primary dysmenorrhea, while GB39 does not have these effects.

Anti-adipocyte monoclonal antibody has been shown to reduce body fat mass in animals. Here, we investigated the effects of an anti-adipocyte antibody (single-chain variable fragment and crystallizable fragment, scFv-Fc) on pig subcutaneous adipose tissue development and lipid metabolism. The scFv-Fc antibody did not alter feed intake or body weight of treated pigs. It suppressed subcutaneous adipose tissue development by reducing the percentage of larger adipocytes, which led to a reduction in body fat mass and subcutaneous adipose tissue thickness. Body fat mass was reduced by reducing triglyceride biosynthesis and promoting triglyceride lipolysis in adipose tissue. There was an increase in lipoprotein lipase mRNA expression in adipose tissue and activity in blood and an enhanced transportation of circulating high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and free fatty acids. Blood concentrations of triglyceride, total cholesterol, glucose, insulin, and adiponectin and mRNA expression of adiponectin in adipose tissue remained unaffected. These findings suggest that anti-adipocyte scFv-Fc antibody may have an application for reducing body fat mass in obese subjects.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the effects of Sanyinjiao (SP6), Xuanzhong (GB39), and an adjacent non-meridian point on menstrual pain and uterine arterial blood flow in primary dysmenorrhea patients., Design: The design of the study was a prospective, randomized controlled trial., Setting: The setting of the study was the Shandong Institute of Medical Imaging, Jinan, China., Patients: The patients were 52 women with primary dysmenorrhea., Interventions: Women received electroacupuncture (EA) at SP6 (n=13), GB39 (n=14), and an adjacent non-meridian point (n=12), respectively, for 10 minutes when scored ≥40 on a 100-mm visual analog scale (VAS), and for 30 minutes on the next 2 days. There was no EA in the waiting list group (n=13)., Outcome Measures: Primary outcomes were menstrual pain, resistance index (RI), and the ratio between peak systolic to end-diastolic flow velocity (S/D) in uterine arteries. Secondary outcomes included verbal rating scale (VRS) and retrospective symptom scale (RSS)., Results: The SP6 group had a highly significant reduction in VAS scores compared with the waiting list group (-23.19mm, 95% confidence interval [CI]-32.06 to -14.33, P<0.0001), GB39 group (-18.58mm, 95% CI -27.29 to -9.88, P<0.0001) and the non-meridian point group (-20.78mm, 95% CI -29.82 to -11.73, P<0.0001), respectively. A significant reduction in VRS scores was found in the SP6 group compared with the GB39 group (P=0.034) and the non-meridian point group (P=0.038). There were no significant differences of RI, S/D-values and RSS scores among the four groups (P>0.05)., Conclusions: EA at SP6 can immediately relieve menstrual pain and minimize the influence of pain on daily life compared with GB39 and an adjacent non-meridian point. The data preliminarily show the specificity of SP6 for the immediate pain relief of primary dysmenorrhea., (Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

The Suaeda heteroptera are widely distributed in intertidal zone, in order to investigate its function in preventing the transfer of the contaminants from land to sea, the levels and the distribution characteristics of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE209), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in Suaeda heteroptera and their associated soils were studied with GC-MS. The results indicated that the levels of these pollutants in Suaeda heteroptera were in the following order: sigma PAHs > OCPs > BDE209 > sigma PCBs (96-1 506 ng/g, 14-577 ng/g, 1.8-33 ng/g, and 399-2 161 pg/g, respectively). The levels of OCPs, PAHs, and PCBs in sediments from Yingkou intertidal zone were higher than that from Donying intertidal zone, however, these pollutants in Suaeda heteroptera leaves were approximately equal, respectively. The distribution of OCPs in Suaeda heteroptera appeared in the following order: stem > root > leaf, and the distribution of PAHs and PCBs in Suaeda heteroptera from Dongying intertidal zone were different from Yingkou intertidal zone, due to the difference of the organic matter content in sediments. The level of BDE209 in sediment from Dongying intertidal zone (19.7 ng/g) was higher than that from Yingkou intertidal zone (2.36 ng/g), and appeared different distribution in Suaeda heteroptera from the two intertidal zones.

Uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), a 32-kDa protein located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, is abundant in brown adipose tissue, as a proton transporter in mitochondria inner membrane which uncouples oxidative metabolism from ATP synthesis and dissipates energy through the heat. UCP1 has been reported to play important roles for energy homeostasis in rodents and neonate of larger mammals including human. Recently, numerous candidate genes were searched to determine the genetic factors implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity, related metabolic disorders and diabetes. UCP-1, which plays a major role in thermogenesis, was suggested to be one of the candidates. This review summarizes data supporting the existence of brown adipocytes and the role of UCP1 in energy dissipation in adult humans, and the genetic variety association with the fat metabolism, obesity and diabetes.

From the aspects of basis, technique descriptions, core contents, problems and solutions, and standard thinking in standard setting process, this paper states experiences in the establishment of the national standard Standardized Manipulation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Part V, Cupping, focusing on methodologies used in cupping standard setting process, the method selection and operating instructions of cupping standardization, and the characteristics of standard TCM. In addition, this paper states the scope of application, and precautions for this cupping standardization. This paper also explaines tentative ideas on the research of standardized manipulation of acupuncture and moxibustion.

In order to study the mechanism of monoclonal antibody (McAb) against a porcine 40-kDa adipocyte-specific plasma membrane protein in reducing fat deposition, porcine primary adipocytes were treated with the McAb during the process of adipocyte differentiation; its effect on expression of lipid metabolism related genes was investigated. Adipocytes were treated with 1-methyl-3-isobutylmethylxanthine (IDX) plus 10 microg/mL of the McAb or without McAb. The mRNA levels of adipocyte differentiation related genes (PPARgamma and C/EBPalpha), lipid metabolism related genes (FAS, HSL, CPT-1B, DGAT and A-FABP) and adiponectin gene (AdipoQ) were determined using real-time quantitative PCR. The results showed that the differentiated adipocyte number and triglyceride (TG) content in adipocytes treated with the McAb were lower than that in cells without McAb during the whole process of adipocyte differentiation. The McAb significantly reduced mRNA expression of PPARgamma, C/EBPalpha, FAS, DGAT, A-FABP and adiponectin genes, but increased mRNA expression of HSL and CPT-1B genes during the medium and latter stage of adipocyte differentiation. This suggested that the McAb decreased triglycerol accumulation in adipocyte by both inhibiting adipocyte differentiation and regulating lipid metabolism, especially at the medium and latter stage of porcine adipocyte differentiation.

Intramuscular fat (IMF) content affects meat quality and varies in different pig breeds. However, the underlying mechanisms of different IMF depositions in different genetic backgrounds of pigs have not been fully elucidated as yet. Lipid metabolism theoretically contributes to the variation of IMF content. The expression levels of genes and proteins as well as enzyme activities implicated in muscle lipid metabolism were investigated, which included lipogenetic genes (SREBP-1c and FAS), fatty acid transporting genes (H-FABP and A-FABP), fatty acid oxidative gene (CPT-1B) and lipolytic genes (ATGL and HSL) as well as the desaturated fatty acid gene (SCD). Longissimus muscle samples were collected from fatty Wujin pigs and lean Landrace pigs. Results showed that the average daily gain of Wujin pigs was lower than that of Landrace pigs. Wujin pigs had greater adipocyte diameter, IMF content and PUFA percentage than that of Landrace pigs. Compared with Landrace pigs, Wujin pigs exhibited higher expression levels, both in mRNA and protein, of FAS, SREBP-1c, SCD, A-FABP and H-FABP genes and lower expression levels of CPT-1B, HSL and ATGL genes. Overall, Wujin pigs possessed higher mRNA abundance, protein expression or enzyme activities of anabolism, fatty acid transportation and desaturation, and lower catabolism. Therefore, the mechanism of higher IMF content in fatty pigs may be due to the higher capacity of lipogenesis and fatty acid transportation and the lower capacity of lipolysis.

The environmental availability of heavy metals from the waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) were studied through BCR's three-stage extraction procedures from EU and Tessier's five sequential extraction procedures. The results show that the heavy metal extraction rates with BCR's procedures are higher than that with Tessier's from waste PCBs. There are significant differences in fraction distributions of heavy metals in PCBs. The speciation of Ni in the PCBs exists mainly in residual forms and has little effect on the environment. The percentage of acidic extractable forms with BCR's method and the total amount of exchangeable and carbonate which bound for Tessier's procedure of Pb and Zn are high, in the South China, the two metals are more easily released by acid rain. Acidic extractable forms of Cu is the main speciation in PCBs with BCR's extraction procedures, while the percentage of Fe-Mn oxides- bound of Cu is the highest with Tessier's procedures, though the result is not agree consistent, due to the high content of Cu in PCBs, the harm of Cu from PCBs could not be neglected.

The philosophical ontology analysis was used in this study to explore the self-factors related to the cultural loss of modern acupuncture, and to establish the theoretical constructs and the clinical model for the cultural return. It is indicated that the most important factors related to the cultural loss of modern acupuncture are the separation of technical characteristics and cultural connotations and the diversion of modern techniques away from classical acupuncture. An effective way of the cultural return is to build a harmonious theoretical and clinical model to develop acupuncture. Based on the foundation of acupuncture from its own culture roots, the traditional sense and cultural values should be enhanced to facilitate the cultural return of acupuncture in theory and clinical practice.

Objective: To explore the functional brain localization with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after acupuncturing the Yuan-Source and He-Sea acupoints of Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming (ST)., Methods: The study was performed in 30 healthy volunteers who underwent acupuncture at Yuan-Source acupoint (Chongyang, ST42) and He-Sea acupoint (Zusanli, ST36) (ST group). Ten of these were also underwent acupuncture at the non-acupoints as the control group. Blood oxygenation level dependent functional MRI was performed., Results: In the ST group, signal increasing areas were demonstrated in bilateral superior temporal gyri (Broadmann 22), bilateral supramarginal gyri (Broadmann 40), bilateral cerebellar hemispheres, bilateral cingulate gyri and isthmus of cingulate gyri (Broadmann 32, 30), bilateral superior parietal lobules (Broadmann 7); signal decreasing areas were shown in bilateral orbital gyri (Broadmann 11), bilateral temporal pole (Broadmann 38), right inferior frontal gyrus (Broadmann 47) and right medial occipitotemporal gyrus (Broadmann 36). In the control group, signal increases areas were demonstrated in superior temporal gyri, precentral gyri, cingulate gyri, thalamus, insula and cerebellum. The size, signal intensity and number of increasing areas in control group are less than in ST group., Conclusion: Combined acupuncture of Yuan-Source and He-Sea acupoints of ST can activate and decrease the multiple brain regions of "splanchnic brain" and thus reach a new functional balance to relieve pain.
