1. The divergent orientations of the buildings of the Franciscan complex of San Gabriel Cholula, Puebla, Mexico

Abstract

The Franciscan complex of San Gabriel in Cholula was one of the first establishments of the order of minor friars in New Spain. Its buildings were erected on the ruins of the pre-Hispanic ritual complex dedicated to the god Quetzalcóatl, using the materials from the old temple and annex buildings. The particularity of the structures built by instruction of the Franciscans is that they do not follow the orientation of the layout of the Cholula city, which is apparently solstitial, and therefore has given rise to multiple speculations in the studies of Cholula. In the present investigation we show evidence that the Royal Chapel of the architectural complex has a temporal orientation coinciding with the so-called sacred orientation of Teotihuacan, while the convent temple presents an orientation that is difficult to interpret, but where one of the definitions of equinox and the date of the patron saint's holiday are possible explanations.

Abstract

Abstract Atomic nuclei serve as prime laboratories for investigations of complex quantum phenomena, where minor nucleon rearrangements cause significant structural changes. 190Pb is the heaviest known neutron-deficient Pb isotope that can exhibit three distinct shapes: prolate, oblate, and spherical, with nearly degenerate excitation energies. Here we report on the combined results from three state-of-the-art measurements to directly observe these deformations in 190Pb. Contrary to earlier interpretations, we associate the collective yrast band as predominantly oblate, while the non-yrast band with higher collectivity follows characteristics of more deformed, predominantly prolate bands. Direct measurement of the $$E0({0}_{2}^{+}\to {0}_{1}^{+})$$ E 0 ( 0 2 + → 0 1 + ) transition and γ-e − coincidence relations allowed us to locate and firmly assign the $${0}_{2}^{+}$$ 0 2 + state in the level scheme and to discover a spherical $${2}_{3}^{+}$$ 2 3 + state at 1281(1) keV with $$B(E2;{2}_{3}^{+}\to {0}_{1}^{+})=1.2(3)$$ B ( E 2 ; 2 3 + → 0 1 + ) = 1.2 ( 3 ) W.u. These assignments are based purely on observed transition probabilities and monopole strength values, and do not rely on model calculations for their interpretation.

Abstract

miniBELEN-10A is a modular and transportable moderated neutron counter with a nearly flat detection efficiency up to 8 MeV. The detector was designed to carry out measurements of (alpha, n) reactions in the context of the Measurement of Alpha Neutron Yields (MANY) project. In this work we present the results of the commissioning of miniBELEN-10A using the relatively well-known thick-target neutron yields from 27Al(alpha, n)30P.

Abstract

Mechanisms for marine ecological protection and recovery, including area-based conservation tools like ‘Marine Protected Areas’ (MPAs) are necessary tools to reach the Aichi Target or the forthcoming 30x30 target set by the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework. However, full ecosystem recovery takes years to manifest and the idea that MPA protection alone will foster human well-being is frequently contradicted by socio-economic evidence. Therefore, a new framework for marine area-based conservation and ecosystem restoration that reconciles the discrepancies between ecological recovery and socio-economic growth timelines is needed to effectively meet global biodiversity conservation targets. We introduce the concept of ‘Marine Prosperity Areas,’ (MPpA) an area-based conservation tool that prioritizes human prosperity as opposed to passively relying on ecosystem recovery to catalyze social change and economic growth. This concept leverages a suite of tried-and-true community-based intervention and investment strategies to strengthen and expand access to environmental science, social goods and services, and the financial perks of the blue economy. This data-driven framework may be of interest to stakeholders who support traditional area-based conservation models, but also to those who have been historically opposed to MPAs or have been excluded from past conservation processes.

Abstract

Perceiving the surrounding environment is essential for enabling autonomous or assisted driving functionalities. Common tasks in this domain include detecting road users, as well as determining lane boundaries and classifying driving conditions. Over the last few years, a large variety of powerful Deep Learning models have been proposed to address individual tasks of camera-based automotive perception with astonishing performances. However, the limited capabilities of in-vehicle embedded computing platforms cannot cope with the computational effort required to run a heavy model for each individual task. In this work, we present CERBERUS (CEnteR Based End-to-end peRception Using a Single model), a lightweight model that leverages a multitask-learning approach to enable the execution of multiple perception tasks at the cost of a single inference. Abstract

Las inundaciones son los desastres naturales que afectan a más personas en el Área Atlántica. En este sentido, el proyecto AA-Floods tiene el objetivo de desarrollar y poner en valor nuevas herramientas, planes y regulaciones que mejoren la gestión y la respuesta a las inundaciones. La importancia de la información altimétrica de calidad para la evaluación del peligro de inundación se basa en el conocimiento lo más detallado y preciso posible del relieve y de las alturas de los elementos situados sobre el suelo. Para ello se ha llevado a cabo una cobertura LiDAR de densidad 21 ptos/m² y fotogramétrica de resolución 0,10 m para la generación de productos altimétricos de gran exactitud posicional y alta precisión en los ámbitos de estudio de la cuenca del río Genil. Así mismo, se ha realizado el levantamiento batimétrico del cauce del río Genil y la obtención de Modelo final Topobatimétrico. Además, para el desarrollo adecuado de la modelización hidráulica y determinación de zonas inundables es necesario tomar en consideración todos aquellos elementos estructurales del cauce que afectan a la inundabilidad. Se ha realizado análisis de zonas inundables con estas fuentes de información que mejoran las utilizadas por el SNCZI. Los resultados se han contrastado con las láminas de inundación de 2010 cartografiadas mediante observación directa mediante satélite Radar.

Abstract

In order to satisfy timing constraints, modern real-time applications require massively parallel accelerators such as General Purpose Graphic Processing Units (GPGPUs). Generation after generation, the number of computing clusters made available in novel GPU architectures is steadily increasing, hence, investigating suitable scheduling approaches is now mandatory. Such scheduling approaches are related to mapping different and concurrent compute kernels within the GPU computing clusters, hence grouping GPU computing clusters into schedulable partitions. In this paper we propose novel techniques to define GPU partitions; this allows us to define suitable task-to-partition allocation mechanisms in which tasks are GPU compute kernels featuring different timing requirements. Such mechanisms will take into account the interference that GPU kernels experience when running in overlapping time windows. Hence, an effective and simple way to quantify the magnitude of such interference is also presented. 41. Características del sueño en trabajadores sanitarios de hospitales de Madrid Sur

Abstract

Resumen Introducción: Los sanitarios son sometidos a estresores, relacionados con el desarrollo de trastornos del sueño. Este estudio evalúa las características del sueño en sanitarios de la zona sur de Madrid. Método: Durante diciembre de 2021 y enero de 2022, se realizó, en los hospitales de Móstoles, Getafe, Fuenlabrada y Alcorcón, una encuesta anonimizada con cuestionarios autoadministrados que incluyó datos demográficos, escala de ansiedad GAD-7, índice de Pittsburgh (PSQI) e Índice de higiene del sueño (SHI). Resultados: Obtuvimos una muestra de 329 sujetos. El 83,3% de los sanitarios padece ansiedad, siendo las variables auxiliares de enfermería y trabajo a turnos las más afectadas. El 85% presentaron mala calidad del sueño, siendo las variables auxiliares de enfermería, >15 años de experiencia y familiares a cargo las más significativas. La higiene del sueño se distribuye entre buena higiene (48%) y mala higiene (52%). Una media de edad 37,43 años, menos de cinco años de experiencia, solteros y no tener familiares a cargo se relacionó con mala higiene. Conclusiones: Concluimos que los trabajadores de la salud tienen mala calidad del sueño y ansiedad, en particular las auxiliares de enfermería. Se relacionó haber trabajado más de quince años con mala calidad del sueño. Otro aspecto a destacar es la relación entre el trabajo a turnos y presentar ansiedad. Los solteros con menos de cinco años de experiencia y de menor edad tienen mala higiene del sueño. La higiene del sueño, ansiedad y calidad del sueño están relacionadas. Debemos considerar medidas concretas de protección y prevención para los sanitarios.

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the importance of improving visual assessment for community dwelling older adult fallers. Methods: Cross-sectional study with eligible older adults (> 60 years old) living in the community and who suffered at least one fall in the last 12 months from the PrevQuedas Brasil clinical trial. Sociodemographic data, information on previous falls, physical and functional assessment (BOMFAQ and FES-I) were collected. We evaluated impairments in visual acuity and contrast sensitivity using the Snellen E chart and low-contrast visual acuity tests, respectively. Abstract

We examine 20 years of monthly global ocean color data and modeling outputs of nutrients using self-organizing map (SOM) analysis to identify characteristic spatial and temporal patterns of high-nutrient low-chlorophyll (HNLC) regions and their association with different climate modes. The global nitrate-to-chlorophyll ratio threshold of NO3 : Chl > 17 (mmol NO3 mg Chl−1) is estimated to be a good indicator of the distribution limit of this unproductive biome that, on average, covers 92 × 106 km2 (∼ 25 % of the ocean). The trends in satellite-derived surface chlorophyll (0.6 ± 0.4 % yr−1 to 2 ± 0.4 % yr−1) suggest that HNLC regions in polar and subpolar areas have experienced an increase in phytoplankton biomass over the last decades, but much of this variation, particularly in the Southern Ocean, is produced by a climate-driven transition in 2009–2010. Indeed, since 2010, the extent of the HNLC zones has decreased at the poles (up to 8 %) and slightly increased at the Equator (< 0.5 %). Our study finds that chlorophyll variations in HNLC regions respond to major climate variability signals such as the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) at both short (2–4 years) and long (decadal) timescales. These results suggest global coupling in the functioning of distant biogeochemical regions.
