9. Effectiveness of Rotation-free Triangular and Quadrilateral Shell Elements in Sheet-metal Forming Simulations.

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the effectiveness of triangular 3-node shell element without rotational d.o.f. and the extension to a new 4-node quadrilateral shell element called S4 with only 3 translational degrees of freedom per node and one-point integration. The curvatures are computed resorting to the surrounding elements. Extension from rotation-free triangular element to a quadrilateral element requires internal curvatures in order to avoid singular bending stiffness. Two numerical examples with regular and irregular meshes are performed to show the convergence and accuracy. Deep-drawing of a box, spring-back analysis of a U-shape strip sheet and the crash simulation of a beam-box complete the demonstration of the bending capabilities of the proposed rotation-free triangular and quadrilateral elements. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

16. Theory of screws incorporated in a new finite element.

Abstract

The new finite element studied here is of triangular type and is used in sheet stamping simulation. The number of equilibrium equations is half that of known methods owing to an original displacement description. The new trianglular element does not use any nodal rotation, and only the translations are useful. This is allowed by the theory of screw elements, which transform a case of rotation into a translational displacement with an offset, and by analogy with a system of rigid bodies. All the steps of the method are presented up to the evaluation of the stiffness matrix. Some examples of simulations are then given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Les fractures des os du carpe sont souvent meconnues en raison de la discretion de leur symptomatologie et de la negativite frequente de l'examen radiologique lors du bilan initial. Le diagnostic @? d'entorse du poignet @? est alors frequemment retenu et c'est a l'occasion de douleurs sequellaires a l'origine d'un poignet douloureux chronique, accompagnees d'une gene fonctionnelle plus ou moins importante que l'on est amene a faire le diagnostic. L'interet de faire un diagnostic precocement est d'effectuer un traitement adapte permettant de traiter la fracture et les lesions ligamentaires souvent associees, pouvant etre responsables secondairement d'une instabilite du carpe. Ceci permet par ailleurs de reculer l'evolution vers l'enraidissement et l'arthrose degenerative du poignet.

Abstract

The test blanket module port plug (TBM PP) consists of a TBM frame and two TBM-sets. However, at any time of the ITER operation, a TBM set can be replaced by a dummy TBM. The frame provides a standardized interface with the vacuum vessel (VV)/port structure and provides thermal isolation from the shield blanket. As one of the plasma-facing components, it shall withstand heat loads while at the same time provide adequate neutron shielding for the VV and magnet coils. The frame design shall provide a stable engineering solution to hold TBM-sets and also provide a mean for rapid remote handling replacement and refurbishment. This paper presents main design features of the conceptual design of TBM PP with two dummy TBMs. Also analysis results are summarized to evaluate shielding, hydraulic, and thermal and structural performances of the TBM PP design. © 2014 ITER Organization.
