Stroke, a multifactorial disease, has distinct pathophysiologic mechanisms, among which inflammation plays a pivotal role. Various types of inflammatory cells, substances, and molecules emerge in the ischemic stroke. Neutrophils, Tcell subtypes, macrophages, microglial cells, dendritic cell, mast cells, asrocytes, as influential cell, tumor necrosis factor_α, interleukin-17, interleukin-10, as released substances, and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), leukocyte very late antigen-4 (VLA-4), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), as cellular adhesion molecules. Lymphocytes' invasion to the ischemic brain tissue occurs as the result of VLA-4 ̶ VCAM-1 interaction. Regarding Tcell subtypes, CD4+ cells have known detrimental effects in the ischemic area, while natural killer T cells (NKT cells) and γδ T cells have minor importance in the early stage of ischemia. While some studies proved the cerebroprotective impact of T regulatory cells, others refuted this by presenting a prominent harmful role of them. Bcells have important protective function by releasing IL-10. Neutrophils along with microglial cell, appearing as the first inflammatory cell in the ischemic tissue, and also macrophages deteriorate ischemia. Mast cells and dendritic cells are of great value in stroke progression. The resting astrocytes are neuroprotective, whereas the activated ones present detrimental function in the ischemic region by expression of GFAP. Hence, stroke consequences occur as the result of systemic inflammatory response. The more activation of this system, the poorer neurological outcomes would be observed. As expected, anti-inflammatory interventions in the experimental stroke in animals, have revealed successful results as less infarct size and attenuated neurological damages.

Background: Malaria is an endemic infectious disease in southeastern parts of Iran. Despite years of efforts and intervention programs against malaria, transmission still occurs in Jask County. Methods: The epidemiological perspective of malaria in Jask County was conducted by gathering data from Jask County health center, during 2006–2010. A knowledge, attitude and practice study was also carried out. Data analy- sis was conducted using SPSS ver. 11.5. Results: A total of 2875 malaria cases were recorded, with highest and lowest numbers in 2007 and 2010, respec- tively. The number of cases had a decreasing trend from 1022 cases in 2006 to 114 cases in 2010. The main causative parasitic agent was Plasmodium vivax. Blood examination rate and slide positive rate were also decreased from 39.5% and 4.3% in 2006 to 15.6% and 1.4% in 2010, respectively. Most of people interviewed in the KAP study had a good knowledge about malaria transmission and symptoms but their use of the bed net for prevention was low (35%). Conclusion: Malaria incidence had significant reduction during the study years. The main reason for this may be due to changing environmental condition for Anopheline breeding and survival because of drought. Another reason may be integration of vector management by using long lasting insecticide treated bed nets, active case detection and treatment by implementation of mobile teams and increasing in financial sources of malaria control program. Knowledge, attitude and practice of people were good in malaria control and prevention, but needs to do more activ- ities for health education and awareness.

Burn injuries put a huge financial burden on patients and healthcare systems. They are the 8th leading cause of mortality and the 13th most common cause of morbidity in our country. We used data from our Burn Registry Program to evaluate risk factors for mortality and lethal area fifty percent (LA50) in all burn patients admitted over two years. We used multiple logistic regressions to identify risk factors for mortality. LA50 is a reliable aggregate index for hospital care quality and a good measure for comparing results, also with those of other countries. 28,690 burn patients sought medical attention in the Emergency Department, and 1721 of them were admitted. Male to female ratio was 1,75:1. 514 patients were under 15 years old. Median age was 25 (range: 3 months - 93 years). Overall, probability of death was 8.4%. LA50 was 62.31% (CI 95%: 56.57-70.02) for patients aged 15 and over and 72.52% (CI 95%: 61.01-100) for those under 15. In the final model, we found that Adjusted OR was significant for age, female sex, TBSA and inhalation injury (P0.05). LA50 values showed that children tolerate more extensive burns. Female sex, burn size, age and inhalation injury were the main risk factors for death. Authorities should pay special attention to these variables, especially in prevention programs, to reduce mortality and improve patient outcome. Children have better outcome than adults given equal burn size. Suicide rates are higher for women than men in our country.Les brûlures sont responsables d’une lourde charge financière pour les patients et les systèmes de santé. Elles représentent dans notre pays la 8ème cause de mortalité et la 13ème cause de morbidité. En utilisant les données de 2 ans du programme de surveillance des brûlures, nous avons évalué les facteurs de risque de mortalité (par régression logistique) et la surface létale 50% (SL50). Cette mortalité 50% est un bon indicateur d’efficacité de soins et de comparaison entre centres et pays. Le service d’accueil des urgences a pris en charge 28 690 patients parmi lesquels 1 721 ont été hospitalisés. Le ratio hommes/femmes était de 1,75/1. Cinq cent quatorze patients avaient moins de 15 ans. L’âge médian était de 25 ans (3-93). La mortalité globale était de 8,4%. La SL50 était de 63,31% SCT (CI95 56,57-70,02) au-delà de 15 ans et de 72,52% SCT (CI95 61,01-100) en deçà. Les facteurs de risque de mortalité étaient l’âge, le sexe féminin, la surface brûlée et l’inhalation de fumées, paramètres sur lesquels devraient s’appuyer les campagnes de prévention. Les brûlures volontaires sont, dans notre pays, plus fréquentes chez les femmes que chez les hommes.

Background: The aim of this study was that the past five years data were collected to analyze the situation of malaria and health facilities in this area for better understanding malaria problem and to find solutions. Methods: In this retrospective study data of the last 5 years were obtained from health center of Bandar Abbas, published papers and reports, weather forecasting organization of the city and annual reports of Hormozgan official authorities. An excel databank was created and analysis was conducted using this software. Results: According to the national health system, Bandar Abbas also has referral net work system from periphery to the district health center. The maximum and minimum Annual Parasitic Index (API) were observed in 2005 (1.31) and 2008 (0.17), respectively. The prevalence of cases in villages was more than city, except for 2008. More than 97.6% of indigenous malaria cases were caused by Plasmodium vivax, although P. falciparum, P. ovale and mix infection were also reported. Anopheles stephensi, An. dthali and An. fluviatilis are the main malaria vectors in rural area, while only the first species is distributed in the urban area. Conclusion: According to results and many variables including API, Bandar Abbas is divided in two strata. From the situation analysis of Bandar Abbas it is postulated that the main activities of this district could be accuracy of data, and malaria vector control.

Chitin nanofibers are prepared from the exoskeletons of shrimp by a simple mechanical treatment after a series of purification steps. The nanofibers have fine nanofibers networks with a uniform width of approximately 10 nm. Grinders and highpressure water jet systems are effective for disintegrating chitin into nanofibers. Acidic conditions are the key factor to facilitate mechanical fibrillation. Ultrafine fibers were successfully fabricated chitosan and fish skinextracted gelatin via electrospinning (ES). Important ES parameters, such as concentration of aqueous acid and fish gelatin solutions, and electric field intensity were examined to investigate the effects on the morphology of the gelatin nanofibers. Due to the poor mechanical properties of the fish gelatin membranes, composite nanofibers made of fish gelatin and poly(L-lactide)(PLLA) were produced with a novel solution. The introduction of PLLA remarkably improved the mechanical properties of the gelatin membranes. With a combination of good biocompatibility and mechanical properties, fish gelatin/PLGA blending non-woven mats are considered to be very promising in fish fillet coating application.. in this study, we fabricated a novel nanofibers composed of fish collagen (FC) and polycaprolactone (PCL) blends by using the electrospinning method. Nanofibers were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and it was revealed that the diameter of nanofibers decreases as FC content was increased in the FC/PCL composite nanofibers. Several modifications to the chitin NF surface are achieved, including acetylation, deacetylation and maleylation. The results of this study revealed that: 1–It is possible to produce Nanofibers from chitosan and fish gelatin. 2– Covering and coating of processed fish by nanofibers are applicable and increasing the possibility of shell life for the processed fish. 3– Nanofibers which have been produced from chitosan and fish gelation not only is environmentally friendly but also it will be eatable while has been covered for fish fillets. biocompatible chitosan and gelatin made from fish, fresh fish fillets do not have the ability to cover and packaging, but is edible and used.

Due to increased bacterial resistance to common antibiotics, tendency towards using herbal extracts is increasing. In this study, antibacterial effects of the extracts of Heracleum persicum, Foeniculum vulgare, Plantago psyllium, Camellia Sinensis, Urtica dioica and Allium sativum on Yersinia ruckeri were investigated in vitro condition. The disc diffusion method, minimum bacteriocidal concentration (MBC) and determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extracts against Y. ruckeri were employed to determination of antibacterial effects of extracts and furasolidon were used as standard. The MIC of extract of Heracleum persicum, F. vulgare, P. psyllium, C. Sinensis, U. dioica and A. sativum were 400, 75, 250, 250, 75 and 150 (μg/ml), respectively, MBC of these extracts was 610, 100, 500, 250, 150 and 250 (μg/ml) respectively, and diameter of zone of inhibition were 17.6±0.6 (mm), 23.6± 1.2, 20.4 ± 0.9, 18.8 ± 0.7, 21.2 ± 1.3 and 22.6 ± 1.1 (mm) were, respectively, against Y. ruckeri. Results of present study demonstrated that the extracts of F. vulgare, U. dioica and A. sativum were appropriate antibacterial agents against Y. ruckeri. Based on the result of this study, using these herbal extracts were suitable alternative than common antibiotics to treatment systematic infections caused by Y. ruckeri.

Genetic studies and gene banks preparation can identify guidelines for improving diversity and population structure and estimation, poaching and also the amount of cross breeding and provide genetic classification. In this study, sampling was performed from the important studied species habitats areas for the species such as: Dasyatis bennetti ، Netuma thalassina, Netuma bilineata Carcharhinus leucas ،Choerodon robustus ، Pseudorhombus pentophthalmus ،Pseudorhombus arsius Thunnus tonggol ،Euthynnus affinis and Trichiurus lepturus. Total DNA extraction was performed using phenol - chloroform method which is the most common method for DNA extraction in order to achieve high quality of DNA was performed in the preparation of gene bank in this study. After relevant studies on this gene primers were designed and in use. After editing the sequences, nucleotide BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) was performed using NCBI blast main page.The sequences obtained from each sample were aligned and corrected from any ambiguities and assembled using Bio edit program .Trees were generated using maximum parsimony (MP), a character-based algorithm and neighbor joining (NJ) a distance-based algorithm for phenetic analysis. The distance matrix option of MEGA4 was used to calculate genetic distance according to the Kimura 2-parameter model of sequence evolution. Based on the results obtained, the optical density of 260 to 280 nm in the samples was recorded between 1/8 - 2, indicating good quality DNA samples. Optimized PCR reaction to 16SrRNA gene amplification using the gradient between 48 - 60° C showed that the most suitable criteria for binding primers, 54 to 58 Celsius degrees respectively.The project objectives including the identification of the genetic structure of the species, and draw the phylogenetic trees using two genes 16SrRNA, making identification and registration of specified computer storage and regulate the structure and management of mentioned species by focus on genetic resources 10 species of majour commercial and noncommercial fishes in the Persia Gulf and Oman Sea through the creation of an integrated network of aquatic genetic resources in the region to try to identify genetic resources and aquatic gene bank.This type of analysis could be considered as an important tool to be used in broodstock selection in breeding programs. Increasing bacterial resistance to commercial antibiotics has led to considering medicinal herb applications. This study aimed to identify chemical composition of essential oil of some native medical herbs and their antibacterial activity against Yersinia ruckeri compared with Enrofloxacin in in vitro experiments. The antibacterial activities of ethanolic extracts and essential oils of Eryngium campestre, Pimpinella affinis, Mentha piperita, Achillea wilhelmsii and Cuminum cyminum were analyzed by disk diffusion, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) methods in in vitro. Also, the oil constituents of the mentioned plants were analyzed by gas chromatography. The MIC value of the ethanolic extracts and essential oils were 31.2-500 µg/mL and 15.6-250 µg/mL, respectively, while the MBC of the mentioned extracts and essential oil were 62.4-500 µg/ml and 31.2-250 µg/ml, respectively. The results showed that the C. cyminum, E. campestre and M. piperita could be introduced as more effective antimicrobial candidates to aquaculture industry.

The main purpose of this study was survey on achieving recombinant DNA vaccine (live delivery) against streptococcusis for Rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) Immunization. Initially, a total of 515 samples were collected from the head kidney of diseased fish (weigh 50_ 200g) in 72 farms of 8 provinces. Approximately, 40% (206 samples) of specimens were infected to Streptococcus species. Then were isolated 172 DNA samples and consequently, five pathogenic species have been identified, including S. iniae, S. faecium, S. agalactiae, S. dysgalatiae, and S. uberis. The enzyme phosphoglucomutase (PGM) has recently been discovered to play an important role in polysaccharide capsule production and virulence in S. iniae. Therefore, was initially isolated S. iniae and cloning phosphoglucomutase gene. Then, the PGM gene was amplified successfully and cloned in pTZ57R cloning vector. The recombinant plasmid was sub cloned into pETD uet-l expression vector by restriction enzymes and confirmed by PCR. Meanwhile, for amplifying simA and cpsD genes were used universal primers pNZ8148 and special for simA and cpsD genes.The recombinant bacteria Lactococcus lactis (NZ9000) was used for transformation the plasmid into Lactococcus lactis. Vaccination was performed by oral, bath and injection (peritoneal) methods. The efficiency of g2 was better than g1in these three methods and all of groups. Fish protein hydrolysates were prepared from Cuttlefish (Sepia pharaonis) muscle using alcalase and protamex methods. By conducting the Cuttlefish protein hydrolysate using alcalase (CPHA), it showed higher degrees of hydrolysis, proximate composition, yield, emulsifying activity index (EAI), emulsion stability index (ESI), foaming activity index (FAI), solubility, water holding capacity (WHC) and Oil absorption capacity (OAC) than cuttlefish protein hydrolysate using protamex (CPHP) but the foaming stability index (FSI) and peptide chain length (PCL) were more in the second treatment. Amino acids profiles of the CPHs were higher in essential amino acids compared to the recommended pattern of requirement by FAO/WHO and NRC standards. Phenylalanine is the first limiting amino acid in the hydrolysate. However, the hydrolysate has the potential for application as an ingredient in formulated diets. Some functional properties such as FAI, FSI and solubility were high in CPHs, thus, they can be used in different food and beverages.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different levels of prebiotic GroBiotic®-A on growth factors, survival rate, body composition and intestinal microbiota of cultured juvenile beluga (Hous huso) in the sturgeon culture center (Samandak, Sari). Four groups of beluga sturgeon with mean weight of 40.82± 5.8 g were raised for 56 days in fiber glass tanks (20 fish to each tank) and feeding with different levels of GroBiotic®-A with concentrations of % 0, % 0.5, %1.0 and % 2.0 (Three replicates were used for each concentration). At the end of the trial, growth factors (final weight, weight gain, SGR, CF feed conversion ratio (FCR), body composition and intestinal microbiota (total viable bacteria and Lactobacillus spp. levels) were determined and compared with control group. Our results confirmed that juveniles fed on diet supplemented with 2% GroBiotic®-A had significantly higher growth factors and survival rate compared to control and 0.5% treatment (P0.05). Genetic knowledge helps to protect biodiversity and optimal harvest resources by several ways. This knowledge can help to reduce the risk of extinction to those populations that have high genetic diversity or diminished by detected them. Also, studies of population genetics can present guidelines for improving the structure of the population and understanding the biology of species. One of the most important applications of DNA database is detecting species, fishing offense, diagnose of anemia and genetic classification of animals. DNA bank has helped to identify the species that are hunted and were discovered only parts of their meat and texture. Optimal Storage of aquatic genetic resources and the conservation of biological diversity, as the national capital by using biotechnology methods are the most important goals of gene bank and database reserves of the country creation. Collecting biological specimens of aquatic species, preparation and long-term maintenance of them, genetic registration of endangered and threatened species and the use of biotechnology techniques for the protection, conservation and management of aquatic genetic resources is one of the other functions of the gene bank. Gene bank of inland waters of Iran (Gorgan) is planned and implemented to identify, collect, maintain and protect species at the level of genes, cells, tissues and live fish research and commercial exploitation. Despite the predicted projected funding for this project, unfortunately funding sources have been considered, does not allocated. Therefore some parts of the aims of this project has been organized by Golestan province credits to build molecular laboratory and aquaculture pond in Alang farm and exploitation of potential Gharasou station and Sijoval center restocking and the conditions for the bulk of the project goals is provided. Some parts like tissue culture laboratory and bioinformatics as well as parts and equipment related to the freezing of sperm and embryo development are the items that should be considered in the development of the this bank.

Caspian brown trout (Salmo trutta caspius) is an important from the point of economy. In this study genetic diversity of (Salmo trutta caspius) was investigated using microsatellite markers from two regions of the Iranian coastline of Southern Caspian Sea (Cheshmeh Kileh River in Mazandaran Province and Karganrud River in Gilan Province). The purpose of this research was the study of Salmo trutta caspius possible populations related to genetic diversity and population structure in the Caspian Sea and introducing the useful genetic markers. For this purpose the number 225 fishes from two Rivers were collected. DNA was extracted and amplified with 16 pairs of microsatellite primers using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The amplified products were loaded on polyacrylamide gels and bands were analyzed using Gene Alex and Pop Gene soft wares. Observed and expected heterozygosity averages were 0.46 ± 0.09 and 0.60 ± 0.10, respectively. According to the results from this study, Genetic polymorphism has been seen in this population.
