Age at menarche may be associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors in different ethnic groups. The purpose of this study was to identify the association of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors with age at menarche (AAM) in Mashhad, the second biggest city in Iran. This was a cross- sectional study based on cohort data of 2353 women (35–65 years) from Mashhad, Iran for whom the age at menarche was reported. Baseline demographic, anthropometric data, and biochemical profiles were also collected. The levels of depression and anxiety were evaluated using a validated Persian version of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Multiple logistic regression models were used to examine the association between age at menarche with CVD risk factors. Anthropometric parameters, short stature, prevalence of diabetes, and CVD risk were significantly higher in women who were younger at menarche (AAM) in comparison to women with an older AAM. Women with a menstruating age of 11 years had a significantly higher weight (P < 0.001), higher BMI (P < 0.001), lower waist circumference (WC) (P = 0.004), higher hip circumference (HC) (P < 0.001) and higher waist-to-thigh ratio (WTR) (P < 0.001) than women with an AAM of ≥ 15 years. University-educated women and employed women were most likely to have menarche at ≥ 15 years (P < 0.001 and P = 0.012 respectively. In girls who menstruated at age ≤ 11 years old, the odds of having a BMI > 28.7 kg/m2, WC > 96 cm, HC > 105 cm and WTR > 61.96 were higher than girls who menstruated at 13 years old. The odds of height > 155 cm was higher in girls with menarche age of ≥ 15 than 13 years and the odds of having depression scores greater than 12 was lower in menarche age group of ≥ 15 years. The girls with menstruation age of 12 years had higher odds of having diabetes mellitus and HC > 105 cm than girls with menstruation age of 13 years. The odds of demi span exceeded 74 cm and height > 155 cm were higher in girls with menarche age of 14 than 13 years. Subject: The Angiopoietin‐like 3 (ANGPTL3) gene has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular risk. This study is designed to compare the genetic variant (rs1748195) of the ANGPTL3 gene and the presence of a coronary artery occlusion of >50% in Iranian nation. Method: In this study, 184 patients underwent angiography and 317 healthy individuals were evaluated for polymorphism of rs1748195 the ANGPTL3 gene using Tetra‐ARMs PCR. Coronary patients who experience angiography were categorized into two groups: 54 patients who had an angiography indication for the first time and coronary occlusion was <50% (Angio−) and 134 patients who formerly underwent coronary stent implanting at least 1 month before with coronary occlusion of ≥50% that again have an angiography indication (Angio+). In addition, individuals with angio+ are categorized in two groups: (1) non‐in‐stent restenosis (NISR); patient with a patent stent (N = 92). (2) in‐stent restenosis (ISR); in‐stent stenosis >50% (N = 42). Result: The fundamental of characteristics of our study design population was categorized based on undergoing angiography or not. In the present study, we investigated that the CC genotype, and also the A allele corresponding to rs1748195 at the ANGPTL3 gene loci, was associated with negative angiogram and directly related to the risk of coronary occlusion >50%. In contrast, this result was not significant in genotypes of ANGPTL3 between non‐ISR and ISR groups. Conclusion: The outcomes of this study showed that rs1748195 polymorphism at the ANGPTL3 gene loci is associated with an elevated risk for the existence of a coronary occlusion of >50%. Background: Bone disease-related fractures constitute a heavy burden on the healthcare systems and economy. Vitamin D is an important regulator of bone health and its deficiency is a global problem. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the 1,500 IU nano-encapsulated vitamin D used for fortifying low-fat dairy products (milk and yogurt) on bone health parameters., Methods: This parallel totally blinded, randomized controlled trial was part of the Ultraviolet Intake by Nutritional Approach study and conducted on 306 individuals with abdominal obesity. Individuals were randomly assigned to four groups, including fortified low-fat milk (1,500 IU nano-encapsulated vitamin D3 per 200 g/d), non-fortified low-fat milk, fortified low-fat yogurt (1,500 IU nano-encapsulated vitamin D3 per 150 g/d), and non-fortified low-fat yogurt, for 10 weeks between January and March 2019. Bone mineral density (BMD) and trabecular bone score (TBS) were measured at the baseline and end of the trial. Trabecular bone score and BMD were defined as primary and secondary outcomes., Results: There were no significant differences in TBS and BMD between the intervention and control groups at the end of the trial ( P>0.05 )., Conclusion: This trial demonstrated no significant effect of nano-encapsulated vitamin D fortified milk and yogurt on BMD and TBS. Background: Asthma is the most chronic inflammatory disease of the airways worldwide. Combination therapy with inhaled fluticasone and salmeterol is a common practice for the long-term management of asthma. Seretide® and Fluticort plus® are two available generic and brand name products of salmeterol/fluticasone. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of these two drugs., Materials and Methods: In this randomized comparative, clinical trial, 80 asthmatic patients were allocated to Fluticort plus® (n=40) or Seretide® (n=40) for a period of 4 weeks. Patients with mild asthma were instructed to inhale one puff each 12 hours and those with moderate asthma two puffs every 12 hours. Respiratory volumes (assessed using spirometry), quality of life (assessed using St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire [SGRQ]) and control of asthmatic symptoms (assessed using asthma control test [ACT]) were evaluated at baseline and at the end of the study., Results: ACT score improved only in the Fluticort plus® group (p=0.012) while it was not significantly changed in the Seretide® group (p=0.178). In both treatment groups, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, and total as well as subscale SGRQ scores were significantly improved by the end of the study (p<0.05). Seretide® more efficiently improved respiratory volumes and SGRQ score in comparison with Fluticort plus® (p<0.05)., Conclusion: Our comparative trial indicated that generic fluticasone/salmeterol product could improve respiratory volumes, quality of life but its efficacy is lower than the brand-name product. However, Fluticort plus® improved asthma control more efficiently compared with Seretide®.
