Abstract

Balancing burgeoning energy demands in the electricity sector while curbing carbon emissions poses a formidable challenge for emerging economies like Bangladesh, which is heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Despite the country's power system master plan (PSMP) until 2041 and submitted intended nationally determined contributions (INDC) to tackle mounting energy needs and associated emissions, the PSMP lacks specific emission reduction strategies. Thus, this study employs carbon emission pinch analysis to facilitate Bangladesh's long-term energy planning, highlighting emission reduction hurdles. This research aims to set emission limits, delineate fossil fuel and carbon-neutral source (i.e., zero emission during operation) compositions, ascertain carbon-neutral source ranges for targeted emissions, and propose viable carbon-neutral sources to meet escalating energy demands. Three scenarios are extensively explored: fulfilling INDC mandates, a 10% increase in renewable energy, and maintaining 2035 emission levels in 2040. The analysis unveils emission limits of 55 758.83 and 84 778.61 × 109 grams of CO2 equivalent for 2025 and 2030, respectively. Projections indicate a foreseen 10% surge in renewable energy by 2035, elevating its share to 18.16%. Carbon-neutral energy sources, encompassing solar, wind, hydroelectricity, biomass, and nuclear, are estimated to cover 56.06% of energy demand by 2040, driving a 33.30% emissions reduction. Abstract

This research was aimed at investigating the environmentally responsible behavior of tourists and their satisfaction with a tourist destination. Moreover, this study examined the effects of employee service quality, perceived value, environmental commitment and tourist satisfaction with a destination on loyalty and environmentally responsible behavior. We used data from tourists (n = 640) who had previously visited the world’s longest natural sea beach (Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh). A partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM) method was used in this study to evaluate the proposed model and hypotheses. The results suggest that the perceived value of the destination has a significantly positive impact on both tourist satisfaction and environmental commitment. Similarly, employee service quality significantly impacts perceived value, tourist satisfaction and environmental commitment. Thus, both perceived value and employee service quality also substantially affect the environmentally responsible behavior at the Cox’s Bazar tourist destination. The main contribution of this research involved an investigation of the mediating effects of environmental commitment and tourist satisfaction with a destination on loyalty and environmentally responsible behavior using a single model based on relationship quality theory. Tourist satisfaction was found to completely mediate the relationship between the perceived value of a destination and environmentally responsible behavior, as well as loyalty. In addition, the theoretical and managerial implications for the destination were discussed.

Abstract

Jiangsu province is one of the economically strong provinces in east China. With the advance of the modernization process, the problem of air pollution in this area is facing a severe challenge under the common role of human activities and regional climate change. While the rest of the world struggles to control COVID-19, China has managed to control the pandemic rapidly and effectively with strong lockdown policies. This study investigates the change in air pollution (focusing on the air quality index (AQI), six ambient air pollutants nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), sulphur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters =10 µm (PM10) and =2.5 µm (PM2.5)) patterns for different periods in last 5 years. Different pollutants have different behavior identified in this studied which is helping for understanding the pattern of air quality. Short-term health advantages from the COVID-19 pandemic can be attributed to the reduction in air pollution and significant improvement in ambient air quality, which need the government to enact post-COVID environmental regulations. 32. Destination on the Move in the Mind of People: Investigating Destination Image of the Tourists

Abstract

It goes without saying that destination image is one of the most important factors that keeps the tourist moving i.e. to travel. Image perception before and after travel also varies that has impact on tourists revisit and recommendation to others. In this research we have tried to measure the destination image perceptions of two different time periods so that the image gap can be bridged. Initially the variables are factor analyzed to find out the latent variables that shape the image. After that paired sample t test has been conducted to test if there is any significant difference between perceptions in two time periods. We have also tried to estimate the in?uence of cultural values on destination image using ANOVA. Finally future research scope has been explored. The empirical findings reveal the evidence of an image gap that should be bridged. And surprisingly no evidence of significant influence of cultural values on destination image was found.
