Molecular deuteration is a powerful diagnostic tool for probing the physical conditions and chemical processes in astrophysical environments. In this work, we focus on formaldehyde deuteration in the protobinary system NGC\,1333 IRAS\,4A, located in the Perseus molecular cloud. Using high-resolution ($\sim$\,100\,au) ALMA observations, we investigate the [D$_2$CO]/[HDCO] ratio along the cavity walls of the outflows emanating from IRAS\,4A1. Our analysis reveals a consistent decrease in the deuteration ratio (from $\sim$\,60-20\% to $\sim$\,10\%) with increasing distance from the protostar (from $\sim$\,2000\,au to $\sim$\,4000\,au). Given the large measured [D$_2$CO]/[HDCO], both HDCO and D$_2$CO are likely injected by the shocks along the cavity walls into the gas-phase from the dust mantles, formed in the previous prestellar phase. We propose that the observed [D$_2$CO]/[HDCO] decrease is due to the density profile of the prestellar core from which NGC\,1333 IRAS\,4A was born. When considering the chemical processes at the base of formaldehyde deuteration, the IRAS\,4A's prestellar precursor had a predominantly flat density profile within 3000\,au and a decrease of density beyond this radius.

In 2017, the next generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) Science Advisory Council, together with the international astronomy community, developed a set of five Key Science Goals (KSGs) to inform, prioritize and refine the technical capabilities of a future radio telescope array for high angular resolution operation from 1.2 - 116 GHz with 10 times the sensitivity of the Jansky VLA and ALMA. The resulting KSGs, which require observations at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths that cannot be achieved by any other facility, represent a small subset of the broad range of astrophysical problems that the ngVLA will be able address. This document presents an update to the original ngVLA KSGs, taking account of new results and progress in the 7+ years since their initial presentation, again drawing on the expertise of the ngVLA Science Advisory Council and the broader community in the ngVLA Science Working Groups. As the design of the ngVLA has also matured substantially in this period, this document also briefly addresses initial expectations for ngVLA data products and processing that will be needed to achieve the KSGs. The original ngVLA KSGs endure as outstanding problems of high priority. Deuterium fractionation in the closest vicinity of a protostar is important in understanding its potential heritage to a planetary system. Here, we have detected the spectral line emission of CH3OH and its three deuterated species, CH2DOH, CHD2OH, and CH3OD, toward the low-mass protostellar source B335 at a resolution of 0.''03 (5 au) with Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. They have a ring distribution within the radius of 24 au with the intensity depression at the continuum peak. We derive the column densities and abundance ratios of the above species at 6 positions in the disk/envelope system as well as the continuum peak. The D/H ratio of CH3OH is ~[0.03-0.13], which is derived by correcting the statistical weight of 3 for CH2DOH. The [CHD2OH]/[CH2DOH] ratio is derived to be higher ([0.14-0.29]). On the other hand, the [CH2DOH]/[CH3OD] ratio ([4.9-15]) is higher than the statistical ratio of 3, and is comparable to those reported for other low-mass sources. We study the physical structure on a few au scale in B335 by analyzing the CH3OH (183,15-182,16, A) and HCOOH (120,12-110,11) line emission. Velocity structures of these lines are reasonably explained as the infalling-rotating motion. The protostellar mass and the upper limit to centrifugal barrier are thus derived to be 0.03-0.07 M_{\odot} and <7 au, respectively, showing that B335 harbors a young protostar with a tiny disk structure. Such youth of the protostar may be related to the relatively high [CH2DOH]/[CH3OH] ratio.

The exploration of outflows in protobinary systems presents a challenging yet crucial endeavour, offering valuable insights into the dynamic interplay between protostars and their evolution. In this study, we examine the morphology and dynamics of jets and outflows within the IRAS\,4A protobinary system. This analysis is based on ALMA observations of SiO(5--4), H$_2$CO(3$_{0,3}$--2$_{0,3}$), and HDCO(4$_{1,4}$--3$_{1,3}$) with a spatial resolution of $\sim$150\,au. Leveraging an astrochemical approach involving the use of diverse tracers beyond traditional ones has enabled the identification of novel features and a comprehensive understanding of the broader outflow dynamics. Our analysis reveals the presence of two jets in the redshifted emission, emanating from IRAS\,4A1 and IRAS\,4A2, respectively. Furthermore, we identify four distinct outflows in the region for the first time, with each protostar, 4A1 and 4A2, contributing to two of them. We characterise the morphology and orientation of each outflow, challenging previous suggestions of bends in their trajectories. The outflow cavities of IRAS\,4A1 exhibit extensions of 10$''$ and 13$''$ with position angles (PA) of 0$^{\circ}$ and -12$^{\circ}$, respectively, while those of IRAS\,4A2 are more extended, spanning 18$''$ and 25$''$ with PAs of 29$^{\circ}$ and 26$^{\circ}$. We propose that the misalignment of the cavities is due to a jet precession in each protostar, a notion supported by the observation that the more extended cavities of the same source exhibit lower velocities, indicating they may stem from older ejection events.

We performed synthetic observations of the Ulrich, Cassen, and Moosman (UCM) model to understand the relation between the physical structures of the infalling envelope around a protostar and their observational features in molecular lines, adopting L1527 as an example. We also compared the physical structure and synthetic position-velocity (P-V) diagrams of the UCM model and a simple ballistic (SB) model. There are multiple ways to compare synthetic data with observational data. We first calculated the correlation coefficient. The UCM model and the SB model show similarly good correlation with the observational data. While the correlation reflects the overall similarity between the cube datasets, we can alternatively compare specific local features, such as the centrifugal barrier in the SB model or the centrifugal radius in the UCM model. We evaluated systematic uncertainties in these methods. In the case of L1527, the stellar mass values estimated using these methods are all lower than the value derived from previous Keplerian analysis of the disk. This may indicate that the gas infall motion in the envelope is retarded by, e.g., magnetic fields. We also showed analytically that, in the UCM model, the spin-up feature of the P-V diagram is due to the infall velocity rather than the rotation. The line-of-sight velocity $V$ is thus $\propto x^{-0.5}$, where $x$ is the offset. If the infall is retarded, rotational velocity should dominate so that $V$ is proportional to $x^{-1}$, as is often observed in the protostellar envelope., Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, published in ApJ, 2024 January 11

Complex organic molecules (COMs) in protoplanetary disks are key to understanding the origin of volatiles in comets in our solar system, yet the chemistry of COMs in protoplanetary disks remains poorly understood. Here we present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 3 observations of the disk around the young outbursting star V883 Ori, where the COMs sublimate from ices and are thus observable thanks to the warm condition of the disk. We have robustly identified ten oxygen-bearing COMs including $^{13}$C-isotopologues in the disk-integrated spectra. The radial distributions of the COM emission, revealed by the detailed analyses of the line profiles, show the inner emission cavity, similar to the previous observations in Band 6 and Band 7. We found that the COMs abundance ratios with respect to methanol are significantly higher than those in the warm protostellar envelopes of IRAS 16293-2422 and similar to the ratios in the solar system comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, suggesting the efficient (re-)formation of COMs in protoplanetary disks. We also constrained the $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C and D/H ratios of COMs in protoplanetary disks for the first time. The $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratios of acetaldehyde, methyl formate, and dimethyl ether are consistently lower ($\sim$ 20-30) than the canonical ratio in the interstellar medium ($\sim$ 69), indicating the efficient $^{13}$C-fractionation of CO. The D/H ratios of methyl formate are slightly lower than the values in IRAS 16293-2422, possibly pointing to the destruction and reformation of COMs in disks. Context. Deuterium in H-bearing species is enhanced during the early stages of star formation, however, only a small number of high spatial resolution deuteration studies exist towards protostellar objects, leaving the small-scale structures unrevealed and understudied. Aims. We aim to constrain the deuterium fractionation ratios in a Class 0/I protostellar object in formaldehyde (H2CO), which has abundant deuterated isotopologues in this environment. Methods. We observed the Class 0/I protobinary system [BHB2007] 11, whose emission components are embedded in circumstellar disks that have radii of 2-3 au, using ALMA within the context of the Large Program FAUST. The system is surrounded by a complex filamentary structure connecting to the larger circumbinary disk. In this work we present the first study of formaldehyde D-fractionation towards this source with detections of H2CO 3(0,3)-2(0,2), combined with HDCO 4(2,2)-3(2,1), HDCO 4(1,4)-3(1,3) and D2CO 4(0,4)-3(0,3). These observations enable multiple velocity components associated with the methanol hotspots also uncovered by FAUST data, as well as the external envelope, to be resolved. In addition, based on the kinematics seen in the observations of the H2CO emission, we propose the presence of a second large scale outflow. Results. HDCO and D2CO are only found in the central regions of the core while H2CO is found more ubiquitously. From radiative transfer modelling, the column densities ranges found for H2CO, HDCO and D2CO are (3-8)x10$^{14}$ cm$^{-2}$, (0.8-2.9)x10$^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ and (2.6-4.3)x10$^{12}$ cm$^{-2}$, respectively, yielding an average D/H ratio of 0.01-0.04. Following the results of kinematic modelling, the second large scale feature is inconsistent with a streamer-like nature and we thus tentatively conclude that the feature is an asymmetric molecular outflow launched by a wide-angle disk wind., Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures

Characterizing the physical properties of dust grains in a protoplanetary disk is critical to comprehending the planet formation process. Our study presents ALMA high-resolution observations of the young protoplanetary disk around DG Tau at a 1.3 mm dust continuum. The observations, with a spatial resolution of $\approx 0.04''$, or $\approx5$ au, revealed a geometrically thin and smooth disk without substantial substructures, suggesting that the disk retains the initial conditions of the planet formation. To further analyze the distributions of dust surface density, temperature, and grain size, we conducted a multi-band analysis with several dust models, incorporating ALMA archival data of the 0.87 mm and 3.1 mm dust polarization. The results showed that the Toomre $Q$ parameter is $\lesssim2$ at a 20 au radius, assuming a dust-to-gas mass ratio of 0.01. This implies that a higher dust-to-gas mass ratio is necessary to stabilize the disk. The grain sizes depend on the dust models, and for the DSHARP compact dust, they were found to be smaller than $\sim400$ $\mu$m in the inner region ($r\lesssim20$ au), while exceeding larger than 3 mm in the outer part. Radiative transfer calculations show that the dust scale height is lower than at least one-third of the gas scale height. These distributions of dust enrichment, grain sizes, and weak turbulence strength may have significant implications for the formation of planetesimals through mechanisms such as streaming instability. We have observed the low-mass protostellar source, IRAS 15398$-$3359, at a resolution of 0.$''$2-0.$''$3, as part of the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array Large Program FAUST, to examine the presence of a hot corino in the vicinity of the protostar. We detect nine CH$_3$OH lines including the high excitation lines with upper state energies up to 500 K. The CH$_3$OH rotational temperature and the column density are derived to be 119$^{+20}_{-26}$ K and 3.2$^{+2.5}_{-1.0}\times$10$^{18}$ cm$^{-2}$, respectively. The beam filling factor is derived to be 0.018$^{+0.005}_{-0.003}$, indicating that the emitting region of CH$_3$OH is much smaller than the synthesized beam size and is not resolved. The emitting region of three high excitation lines, 18$_{3,15}-18_{2,16}$, A ($E_u=$447 K), 19$_{3,16}-19_{2,17}$, A ($E_u=$491 K), and 20$_{3,17}-20_{2,18}$, A ($E_u=$537 K), is located within the 50 au area around the protostar, and seems to have a slight extension toward the northwest. Toward the continuum peak, we also detect one emission line from CH$_2$DOH and two features of multiple CH$_3$OCHO lines. These results, in combination with previous reports, indicate that IRAS 15398$-$3359 is a source with hybrid properties showing both hot corino chemistry rich in complex organic molecules on small scales $\sim$10 au) and warm carbon-chain chemistry (WCCC) rich in carbon-chain species on large scales ($\sim$100-1000 au). We present our current understanding of the formation and early evolution of protostars, protoplanetary disks, and the driving of outflows as dictated by the interplay of magnetic fields and partially ionized gas in molecular cloud cores. In recent years, the field has witnessed enormous development through sub-millimeter observations which in turn have constrained models of protostar formation. As a result of these observations % that the observations provided, the state-of-the-art theoretical understanding of the formation and evolution of young stellar objects is described. In particular, we emphasize the importance of the coupling, decoupling, and re-coupling between weakly ionized gas and the magnetic field on appropriate scales. The origin of complex organic molecules (COMs) in young Class 0 protostars has been one of the major questions in astrochemistry and star formation. While COMs are thought to form on icy dust grains via gas-grain chemistry, observational constraints on their formation pathways have been limited to gas-phase detection. Sensitive mid-infrared spectroscopy with JWST enables unprecedented investigation of COM formation by measuring their ice absorption features. We present an overview of JWST/MIRI MRS spectroscopy and imaging of a young Class 0 protostar, IRAS 15398-3359, and identify several major solid-state absorption features in the 4.9-28 $\mu$m wavelength range. These can be attributed to common ice species, such as H$_2$O, CH$_3$OH, NH$_3$, and CH$_4$, and may have contributions from more complex organic species, such as C$_2$H$_5$OH and CH$_3$CHO. The MRS spectra show many weaker emission lines at 6-8 $\mu$m, which are due to warm CO gas and water vapor, possibly from a young embedded disk previously unseen. Finally, we detect emission lines from [Fe II], [Ne II], [S I], and H$_2$, tracing a bipolar jet and outflow cavities. MIRI imaging serendipitously covers the south-western (blue-shifted) outflow lobe of IRAS 15398-3359, showing four shell-like structures similar to the outflows traced by molecular emission at sub-mm wavelengths. To understand the origin of the diversity observed in exoplanetary systems, it is crucial to characterize the early stages of their formation, represented by Solar-type protostars. Likely, the gaseous chemical content of these objects directly depends on the composition of the dust grain mantles formed before the collapse. Directly retrieving the ice mantle composition is challenging, but it can be done indirectly by observing the major components, such as NH3 and CH3OH at cm wavelengths, once they are released into the gas-phase during the warm protostellar stage. We observed several CH3OH and NH3 lines toward three Class 0 protostars in NGC1333 (IRAS 4A1, IRAS 4A2, and IRAS 4B), at high angular resolution (1"; ~300 au) with the VLA interferometer at 24-26 GHz. Using a non-LTE LVG analysis, we derived a similar NH3/CH3OH abundance ratio in the three protostars (<0.5, 0.015-0.5, and 0.003-0.3 for IRAS 4A1, 4A2, and 4B, respectively). Hence, we infer they were born from pre-collapse material with similar physical conditions. Comparing the observed abundance ratios with astrochemical model predictions, we constrained the dust temperature at the time of the mantle formation to be ~17 K, which coincides with the average temperature of the southern NGC 1333 diffuse cloud. We suggest that a brutal event started the collapse that eventually formed IRAS 4A1, 4A2 and 4B, which,therefore, did not experience the usual pre-stellar core phase. We present a detailed study of the massive star-forming region G35.2-0.74N with ALMA 1.3 mm multi-configuration observations. At 0.2" (440 au) resolution, the continuum emission reveals several dense cores along a filamentary structure, consistent with previous ALMA 0.85 mm observations. At 0.03" (66 au) resolution, we detect 22 compact sources, most of which are associated with the filament. Four of the sources are associated with compact centimeter continuum emission, and two of these are associated with H30{\alpha} recombination line emission. The H30{\alpha} line kinematics show ordered motion of the ionized gas, consistent with disk rotation and/or outflow expansion. We construct models of photoionized regions to simultaneously fit the multi-wavelength free-free fluxes and the H30{\alpha} total fluxes. The derived properties suggest the presence of at least three massive young stars with nascent hypercompact Hii regions. Two of these ionized regions are surrounded by a large rotating structure that feeds two individual disks, revealed by dense gas tracers, such as SO2, H2CO, and CH3OH. In particular, the SO2 emission highlights two spiral structures in one of the disks and probes the faster-rotating inner disks. The 12CO emission from the general region reveals a complex outflow structure, with at least four outflows identified. The remaining 18 compact sources are expected to be associated with lower-mass protostars forming in the vicinity of the massive stars. We find potential evidence for disk disruption due to dynamical interactions in the inner region of this protocluster. The spatial distribution of the sources suggests a smooth overall radial density gradient without subclustering, but with tentative evidence of primordial mass segregation., Comment: 46 pages, 21 figures, 5 tables. Resolving physical and chemical structures in the vicinity of a protostar is of fundamental importance for elucidating their evolution to a planetary system. In this context, we have conducted 1.2 mm observations toward the low-mass protostellar source B335 at a resolution of 0."03 with ALMA. More than 20 molecular species including HCOOH, NH2 CHO, HNCO, CH3 OH, CH2 DOH, CHD2 OH, and CH3 OD are detected within a few 10 au around the continuum peak. We find a systematic chemical differentiation between oxygen-bearing and nitrogen-bearing organic molecules by using the principal component analysis for the image cube data. The distributions of the nitrogen-bearing molecules are more compact than those of the oxygen-bearing ones except for HCOOH. The temperature distribution of the disk/envelope system is revealed by a multi-line analysis for each of HCOOH, NH2 CHO, CH3 OH, and CH2 DOH. The rotation temperatures at the radius of 0."06 along the envelope direction of CH3OH and CH2DOH are derived to be 150-165 K. On the other hand, those of HCOOH and NH2CHO, which have a smaller distribution, are 75-112 K, and are significantly lower than those for CH3OH and CH2DOH. This means that the outer envelope traced by CH3OH and CH2DOH is heated by additional mechanisms rather than the protostellar heating. We here propose the accretion shock as the heating mechanism. The chemical differentiation and the temperature structure on a few au scale provide us with key information to further understand chemical processes in protostellar sources.

For revealing the first step of the plant formation, it is important to understand how and when dust grains become larger in a disk around a protostar. To investigate the grain growth, we analyze dust continuum emission toward a disk around the Class I protostar, L1489 IRS at 0.9 and 1.3 mm wavelengths obtained by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. The dust continuum emission extends to a disk radius ($r$) of $r\sim300$ au, and the spectral index ($\alpha$) is derived to be $\alpha\sim3.6$ at a radius of $r\sim100-300$ au, as similar to the interstellar dust. Therefore, the grain growth does not occur significantly in the outer disk ($r\sim100-300$ au). Furthermore, we tentatively identify a ring-like substructure at $r\sim90$ au even though the spatial resolution and sensitivity are not enough to determine this structure. If this is the real ring structure, the ring position and small dust in the disk outer part are consistent with the idea of the growth front. We have investigated the protostellar disk around a Class 0/I protostar, L1527 IRS, using multi-wavelength observations of the dust continuum emission at $\lambda=0.87$, 2.1, 3.3, and 6.8 mm obtained by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and the Jansky Very Large Array (VLA). Our observations achieved a spatial resolution of $3-13$ au and revealed an edge-on disk structure with a size of $\sim80-100$ au. The emission at 0.87 and 2.1 mm is found to be optically thick within a projected disk radius of $ r_{\rm proj}\lesssim50$ au. The emission at 3.3 and 6.8 mm shows that the power-law index of the dust opacity ($\beta$) is $\beta\sim1.7$ around $ r_{\rm proj}\sim 50$ au, suggesting that grain growth has not yet begun. The dust temperature ($T_{\rm dust}$) shows a steep decrease with $T_{\rm dust}\propto r_{\rm proj}^{-2}$ outside of the VLA clumps previously identified at $r_{\rm proj}\sim20$ au. Furthermore, the disk is gravitationally unstable at $r_{\rm proj}\sim20$ au, as indicated by a Toomre {\it Q} parameter value of $Q\lesssim1.0$. These results suggest that the VLA clumps are formed via gravitational instability, which creates a shadow on the outside of the substructure, resulting in the sudden drop in temperature. The derived dust masses for the VLA clumps are $\gtrsim0.1$ $M_{\rm J}$. Thus, we suggest that Class 0/I disks can be massive enough to be gravitationally unstable, which might be the origin of gas-giant planets in a 20 au radius. TMC-1A is a protostellar source harboring a young protostar, IRAS 04365+2353, and shows a highly asymmetric features of a few 100 au scale in the molecular emission lines. Blue-shifted emission is much stronger in the CS ($J=5$-4) line than red-shifted one. The asymmetry can be explained if the gas accretion is episodic and takes the form of cloudlet capture, given the cloudlet approached toward us. The gravity of the protostar transforms the cloudlet into a stream and changes its velocity along the flow. The emission from the cloudlet should be blue-shifted before the periastron, while it should be red-shifted after the periastron. If a major part of cloudlet has not reached the periastron, the former should be dominant. We perform hydrodynamical simulations to examine the validity of the scenario. Our numerical simulations can reproduce the observed asymmetry if the orbit of the cloudlet is inclined to the disk plane. The inclination can explain the slow infall velocity observed in the C$^{18}$O ($J$=2-1) line emission. Such episodic accretion may occur in various protostellar cores since actual clouds could have inhomogeneous density distribution. We studied the line emission from CH3CN and its deuterated isotopologue CH$_2$DCN towards the prototypical Class I object SVS13-A, where the deuteration of a large number of species has already been reported. Our goal is to measure the CH$_3$CN deuteration in a Class I protostar, for the first time, in order to constrain the CH$_3$CN formation pathways and the chemical evolution from the early prestellar core and Class 0 to the evolved Class I stages. We imaged CH2DCN towards SVS13-A using the IRAM NOEMA interferometer at 3mm in the context of the Large Program SOLIS (with a spatial resolution of 1.8"x1.2"). The NOEMA images have been complemented by the CH$_3$CN and CH$_2$DCN spectra collected by the IRAM-30m Large Program ASAI, that provided an unbiased spectral survey at 3mm, 2mm, and 1.3mm. The observed line emission has been analysed using LTE and non-LTE LVG approaches. The NOEMA/SOLIS images of CH2DCN show that this species emits in an unresolved area centered towards the SVS13-A continuum emission peak, suggesting that methyl cyanide and its isotopologues are associated with the hot corino of SVS13-A, previously imaged via other iCOMs. In addition, we detected 41 and 11 ASAI transitions of CH$_3$CN and CH2DCN, respectively, which cover upper level energies (Eup) from 13 to 442 K and from 18 K to 200 K, respectively. The derived [CH2DCN]/[CH3CN] ratio is $\sim$9\%. This value is consistent with those measured towards prestellar cores and a factor 2-3 higher than those measured in Class 0 protostars. Contrarily to what expected for other molecular species, the CH3CN deuteration does not show a decrease in SVS13-A with respect to measurements in younger prestellar cores and Class 0 protostars. We report a study of the low-mass Class-0 multiple system VLA 1623AB in the Ophiuchus star-forming region, using H$^{13}$CO$^+$ ($J=3-2$), CS ($J=5-4$), and CCH ($N=3-2$) lines as part of the ALMA Large Program FAUST. The analysis of the velocity fields revealed the rotation motion in the envelope and the velocity gradients in the outflows (about 2000 au down to 50 au). We further investigated the rotation of the circum-binary VLA 1623A disk as well as the VLA 1623B disk. We found that the minor axis of the circum-binary disk of VLA 1623A is misaligned by about 12 degrees with respect to the large-scale outflow and the rotation axis of the envelope. In contrast, the minor axis of the circum-binary disk is parallel to the large-scale magnetic field according to previous dust polarization observations, suggesting that the misalignment may be caused by the different directions of the envelope rotation and the magnetic field. If the velocity gradient of the outflow is caused by rotation, the outflow has a constant angular momentum and the launching radius is estimated to be $5-16$ au, although it cannot be ruled out that the velocity gradient is driven by entrainments of the two high-velocity outflows. Furthermore, we detected for the first time a velocity gradient associated with rotation toward the VLA 16293B disk. The velocity gradient is opposite to the one from the large-scale envelope, outflow, and circum-binary disk. We have observed the 70 $\mu$m dark infrared dark cloud (IRDC) G14.492-00.139 in the N$_2$D$^+$ $J$=3--2, DCO$^+$ $J$=3--2, DCN $J$=3--2, and C$^{18}$O $J$=2--1 lines, using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) as part of the ALMA Survey of 70 $\mu$m Dark High-mass Clumps in Early Stages (ASHES). We find that the spatial distribution is different among the observed emission from the deuterated molecular lines. The N$_2$D$^+$ emission traces relatively quiescent regions, while both the DCO$^+$ and DCN emission emanates mainly from regions with signs of active star-formation. In addition, the DCO$^+$/N$_2$D$^+$ ratio is found to be lower in several dense cores than in starless cores embedded in low-mass star-forming regions. By comparing the observational results with chemical model calculations, we discuss the origin of the low DCO$^+$/N$_2$D$^+$ ratio in this IRDC clump. The low DCO$^+$/N$_2$D$^+$ ratio can be explained if the temperature of the dense cores is in the range between the sublimation temperature of N$_2$ ($\sim$20 K) and CO ($\sim$25 K). The results suggest that the dense cores in G14.492-00.139 are warmer and denser than the dense cores in low-mass star-forming regions., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ

We have observed the young protostellar system NGC 2264 CMM3 in the 1.3 mm and 2.0 mm bands at a resolution of about 0.1$"$ (70 au) with ALMA. The structures of two distinct components, CMM3A and CMM3B, are resolved in the continuum images of both bands. CMM3A has an elliptical structure extending along the direction almost perpendicular to the known outflow, while CMM3B reveals a round shape. We have fitted two 2D-Gaussian components to the elliptical structure of CMM3A and CMM3B, and have separated the disk and envelope components for each source. The spectral index $\alpha$ between 2.0 mm and 0.8 mm is derived to be 2.4-2.7 and 2.4-2.6 for CMM3A and CMM3B, respectively, indicating the optically thick dust emission and/or the grain growth. A velocity gradient in the disk/envelope direction is detected for CMM3A in the CH$_3$CN, CH$_3$OH, and $^{13}$CH$_3$OH lines detected in the 1.3 mm band, which can be interpreted as the rotation of the disk/envelope system. From this result, the protostellar mass of CMM3A is roughly evaluated to be $0.1- 0.5$ $M_\odot$ by assuming Keplerian rotation. The mass accretion rate is thus estimated to be $5\times10^{-5}$ - 4 $\times$ $10^{-3}$ $M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$, which is higher than typical mass accretion rate of low-mass protostars. The OCS emission line shows a velocity gradient in both outflow direction and disk/envelope direction. A hint of outflow rotation is found, and the specific angular momentum of the outflow is estimated to be comparable to that of the disk. To date, about two dozen low-mass embedded protostars exhibit rich spectra with lines of complex organic molecule (COM). These protostars seem to possess different enrichment in COMs. However, the statistics of COM abundance in low-mass protostars are limited by the scarcity of observations. This study introduces the Perseus ALMA Chemistry Survey (PEACHES), which aims at unbiasedly characterizing the chemistry of COMs toward the embedded (Class 0/I) protostars in the Perseus molecular cloud. Of 50 embedded protostars surveyed, 58% of them have emission from COMs. A 56%, 32%, and 40% of the protostars have CH$_3$OH, CH$_3$OCHO, and N-bearing COMs, respectively. The detectability of COMs depends neither on the averaged continuum brightness temperature, a proxy of the H$_2$ column density, nor on the bolometric luminosity and the bolometric temperature. For the protostars with detected COMs, CH$_3$OH has a tight correlation with CH$_3$CN, spanning more than two orders of magnitude in column densities normalized by the continuum brightness temperature, suggesting a chemical relation between CH$_3$OH and CH$_3$CN and a large chemical diversity in the PEACHES samples at the same time. A similar trend with more scatter is also found between all identified COMs, hinting at a common chemistry for the sources with COMs. The correlation between COMs is insensitive to the protostellar properties, such as the bolometric luminosity and the bolometric temperature. The abundance of larger COMs (CH$_3$OCHO and CH$_3$OCH$_3$) relative to that of smaller COMs (CH$_3$OH and CH$_3$CN) increases with the inferred gas column density, hinting at an efficient production of complex species in denser envelopes., Comment: 55 pages, 9 tables, 24 figures. We have observed the very low-mass Class 0 protostar IRAS 15398-3359 at scales ranging from 50 au to 1800 au, as part of the ALMA Large Program FAUST. We uncover a linear feature, visible in H2CO, SO, and C18O line emission, which extends from the source along a direction almost perpendicular to the known active outflow. Molecular line emission from H2CO, SO, SiO, and CH3OH further reveals an arc-like structure connected to the outer end of the linear feature and separated from the protostar, IRAS 15398-3359, by 1200 au. The arc-like structure is blue-shifted with respect to the systemic velocity. A velocity gradient of 1.2 km/s over 1200 au along the linear feature seen in the H2CO emission connects the protostar and the arc-like structure kinematically. SO, SiO, and CH3OH are known to trace shocks, and we interpret the arc-like structure as a relic shock region produced by an outflow previously launched by IRAS 15398-3359. The velocity gradient along the linear structure can be explained as relic outflow motion. The origins of the newly observed arc-like structure and extended linear feature are discussed in relation to turbulent motions within the protostellar core and episodic accretion events during the earliest stage of protostellar evolution.

Recent spectroscopic observations by sensitive radio telescopes require accurate molecular spectral line frequencies to identify molecular species in a forest of lines detected. To measure rest frequencies of molecular spectral lines in the laboratory, an emission-type millimeter and submillimeter-wave spectrometer utilizing state-of-the-art radio-astronomical technologies is developed. The spectrometer is equipped with a 200 cm glass cylinder cell, a two sideband (2SB) Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor (SIS) receiver in the 230 GHz band, and wide-band auto-correlation digital spectrometers. By using the four 2.5 GHz digital spectrometers, a total instantaneous bandwidth of the 2SB SIS receiver of 8 GHz can be covered with a frequency resolution of 88.5 kHz. Spectroscopic measurements of CH$_3$CN and HDO are carried out in the 230 GHz band so as to examine frequency accuracy, stability, sensitivity, as well as intensity calibration accuracy of our system. As for the result of CH$_3$CN, we confirm that the frequency accuracy for lines detected with sufficient signal to noise ratio is better than 1 kHz, when the high resolution spectrometer having a channel resolution of 17.7 kHz is used. In addition, we demonstrate the capability of this system by spectral scan measurement of CH$_3$OH from 216 GHz to 264 GHz. We assign 242 transitions of CH$_3$OH, 51 transitions of $^{13}$CH$_3$OH, and 21 unidentified emission lines for 295 detected lines. Ring structures are observed by (sub-)millimeter dust continuum emission in various circumstellar disks from early stages of Class 0 and I to late stage of Class II young stellar objects (YSOs). In this paper, we study one of the possible scenarios of such ring formation in early stage, which is coagulation of dust aggregates. The dust grains grow in an inside-out manner because the growth timescale is roughly proportional to the orbital period. The boundary of the dust evolution can be regarded as the growth front, where the growth time is comparable to the disk age. With radiative transfer calculations based on the dust coagulation model, we find that the growth front can be observed as a ring structure because dust surface density is sharply changed at this position. Furthermore, we confirm that the observed ring positions in the YSOs with an age of $\lesssim1$ Myr are consistent with the growth front. We present observations of the four hyperfine structure components of the OH 18 cm transition (1612, 1665, 1667 and 1720 MHz) toward a filamentary dark cloud, the Pipe nebula, with the Green Bank Telescope. A statistical equilibrium analysis is applied to the spectra,and the kinetic temperature of a diffuse molecular gas surrounding dense cores is determined accurately; the derived temperature ranges from 40 K to 75 K. From this result, we assess the heating effect on the filamentarystructure of the nebula's "stem" region due to UV photons from a nearby star $\theta$-Ophiuchi and a possible filament-filament collision in the interface of the "stem" and "bowl" regions. In the stem region, the gas kinetic temperature is found to be almost independent of the apparent distance from $\theta$-Ophiuchi: the UV-heating effect by the star is not visible. On the other hand, the gas kinetic temperature is raised, as high as $\sim$75 K, at the interface of the two filamentary structures. This result provides us with an additional support to the filament-filament collision scenario in the Pipe nebula., Comment: 33 pages, 13 figures

We have imaged 15 molecular-line emissions and the dust continuum emission around the Class 0 protostellar source, IRAS 15398-3359, with ALMA. The outflow structure is mainly traced by the H2CO (K_a=0 and 1), CCH, and CS emissions. These lines also trace the disk/envelope structure around the protostar. The H2CO (K_a=2 and 3), CH3OH, and SO emissions are concentrated toward the protostar, while the DCN emission is more extended around the protostar. We have performed the principal component analysis (PCA) for these distributions on the two different scales, the outflow and the disk/envelope structure. For the latter case, the molecular-line distributions are classified into two groups, according to the contribution of the second principal component, one having a compact distribution around the protostar and the other showing a rather extended distribution over the envelope. Moreover, the second principal component value tends to increase as an increasing quantum number of H2CO (K_a=0,1,2, and 3), reflecting the excitation condition: the distribution is more compact for higher excitation lines. These results indicate that PCA is effective to extract the characteristic feature of the molecular line distributions around the protostar in an unbiased way. In addition, we identify four blobs in the outflow structure in the H2CO lines, some of which can also be seen in the CH3OH, CS, CCH, and SO emissions. The gas temperature derived from the H2CO lines ranges from 43 to 63 K, which suggests shocks due to the local impact of the outflow on clumps of the ambient gas.

We report results of 0.05"-resolution observations toward the O-type proto-binary system IRAS 16547-4247 with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). We present dynamical and chemical structures of the circumbinary disk, circumstellar disks, outflows and jets, illustrated by multi-wavelength continuum and various molecular lines. In particular, we detect sodium chloride, silicon compounds, and vibrationally-excited water lines as probes of the individual protostellar disks at a scale of 100 au. These are complementary to typical hot-core molecules tracing the circumbinary structures on a 1000-au scale. The H2O line tracing inner-disks has an upper-state energy of Eu/k>3000K, indicating a high temperature of the disks. On the other hand, despite the detected transitions of NaCl, SiO, and SiS not necessarily having high upper-state energies, they are enhanced only in the vicinity of the protostars. We interpret that these molecules are the products of dust destruction, which only happens in the inner disks. This is the second detection of alkali metal halide in protostellar systems after the case of the disk of Orion Source I, and also one of few massive protostellar disks associated with high-energy transition water and silicon compounds. These new results suggest these "hot-disk" lines may be common in innermost disks around massive protostars, and have great potential for future research of massive star formation. Hot corino chemistry and warm carbon chain chemistry (WCCC) are driven by gas-grain interactions in star-forming cores: radical-radical recombination reactions to form complex organic molecules (COMs) in the ice mantle, sublimation of CH$_4$ and COMs, and their subsequent gas-phase reactions. These chemical features are expected to depend on the composition of ice mantle which is set in the prestellar phase. We calculated the gas-grain chemical reaction network considering a layered ice-mantle structure in star-forming cores, to investigate how the hot corino chemistry and WCCC depend on the physical condition of the static phase before the onset of gravitational collapse. We found that WCCC becomes more active, if the temperature is lower, or the visual extinction is lower in the static phase, or the static phase is longer. Dependence of hot corino chemistry on the static-phase condition is more complex. While CH$_3$OH is less abundant in the models with warmer static phase, some COMs are formed efficiently in those warm models, since there are various formation paths of COMs. If the visual extinction is lower, photolysis makes COMs less abundant in the static phase. Once the collapse starts and visual extinction increases, however, COMs can be formed efficiently. Duration of the static phase does not largely affect COM abundances. Chemical diversity between prototypical hot corinos and hybrid sources, in which both COMs and carbon chains are reasonably abundant, can be explained by the variation of prestellar conditions. Deficiency of gaseous COMs in prototypical WCCC sources is, however, hard to reproduce within our models., Comment: accepted to ApJ. After almost 20 years of hunting, only about a dozen hot corinos, hot regions enriched in interstellar complex organic molecules (iCOMs), are known. Of them, many are binary systems with the two components showing drastically different molecular spectra. Two obvious questions arise. Why are hot corinos so difficult to find and why do their binary components seem chemically different? The answer to both questions could be a high dust opacity that would hide the molecular lines. To test this hypothesis, we observed methanol lines at centimeter wavelengths, where dust opacity is negligible, using the Very Large Array interferometer. We targeted the NGC 1333 IRAS 4A binary system, for which one of the two components, 4A1, has a spectrum deprived of iCOMs lines when observed at millimeter wavelengths, while the other component, 4A2, is very rich in iCOMs. We found that centimeter methanol lines are similarly bright toward 4A1 and 4A2. Their non-LTE analysis indicates gas density and temperature ($\geq2\times10^6$ cm$^{-3}$ and 100--190 K), methanol column density ($\sim10^{19}$ cm$^{-2}$) and extent ($\sim$35 au in radius) similar in 4A1 and 4A2, proving that both are hot corinos. Furthermore, the comparison with previous methanol line millimeter observations allows us to estimate the optical depth of the dust in front of 4A1 and 4A2, respectively. The obtained values explain the absence of iCOMs line emission toward 4A1 at millimeter wavelengths and indicate that the abundances toward 4A2 are underestimated by $\sim$30\%. We analyze multi-frequency, high-resolution continuum data obtained by ALMA and JVLA to study detailed structure of the dust distribution in the infant disk of a Class~0/I source, L1527 IRS. We find three clumps aligning in the north-south direction in the $7 {\rm \,mm}$ radio continuum image. The three clumps remain even after subtracting free-free contamination, which is estimated from the $1.3{\rm \,cm}$ continuum observations. The northern and southern clumps are located at a distance of $\sim 15{\rm \,au}$ from the central clump and are likely optically thick at $7{\rm \,mm}$ wavelength. The clumps have similar integrated intensities. The symmetric physical properties could be realized when a dust ring or spiral arms around the central protostar is projected to the plane of the sky. We demonstrates for the first time that such substructure may form even in the disk-forming stage, where the surrounding materials actively accrete toward a disk-protostar system.

We present the results of 0.1-pc-scale observations in 250 GHz and 350GHz towards a newly-discovered hot molecular core in a nearby low-metallicity galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. A variety of C/N/O/Si/S-bearing molecules are detected towards the high-mass young stellar object, ST16. A rotating protostellar envelope is for the first time detected outside our Galaxy by SO2 and 34SO lines. An outflow cavity is traced by CCH and CN. The isotope abundance of sulfur in the source is estimated to be 32S/34S = 17 and 32S/33S = 53 based on SO, SO2, and CS isotopologues, suggesting that both 34S and 33S are overabundant in the LMC. Rotation diagram analyses show that the source is associated with hot gas (>100K) traced by high-excitation lines of CH3OH and SO2, as well as warm gas (~50K) traced by CH3OH, SO2, 34SO, OCS, CH3CN lines. A comparison of molecular abundances between LMC and Galactic hot cores suggests that organic molecules (e.g., CH3OH, a classical hot core tracer) show a large abundance variation in low metallicity, where the present source is classified into an organic-poor hot core. Our astrochemical simulations suggest that different grain temperature during the initial ice-forming stage would contribute to the chemical differentiation. In contrast, SO2 shows similar abundances within all the known LMC hot cores and the typical abundance roughly scales with the LMC's metallicity. Nitrogen-bearing molecules are generally less abundant in LMC hot cores, except for NO. We present the first sub-arcsecond images of 49 Ceti in the [C I]3P1-3P0 emission and the 614 micron dust continuum emission observed with ALMA, as well as that in the CO(J=3-2) emission prepared by using the ALMA archival data. The spatial distribution of the 614 micron dust continuum emission is found to have a broad-ring structure with a radius of about 100 au around the central star. A substantial amount of gas is also associated with 49 Ceti. The [C I] emission map shows two peaks inside the dust ring, and its overall extent is comparable to that of the dust continuum emission and the CO emission. We find that the [C I]/CO(J=3-2) intensity ratio significantly varies along the major axis. The ratio takes the minimum value of 1.8 around the dust peak position, and increases inwards and outwards. The enhanced ratio around the central star (~3) likely originates from the stellar UV radiation, while that in the outer disk (~10) from the interstellar UV radiation. Such complex distributions of the [C I] and CO(J=3-2) emission will be a key to understand the origin of the gas in 49 Ceti, and will also provide a stringent constraint on physical and chemical models of gaseous debris disks., Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures, 1 table; accepted for publication in ApJ

We have observed the Class I protostellar source Elias 29 with Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). We have detected CS, SO, $^{34}$SO, SO$_2$, and SiO line emissions in a compact component concentrated near the protostar and a ridge component separated from the protostar by 4\arcsec\ ($\sim 500$ au). The former component is found to be abundant in SO and SO$_2$ but deficient in CS. The abundance ratio SO/CS is as high as $3^{+13}_{-2} \times 10^2$ at the protostar, which is even higher than that in the outflow-shocked region of L1157 B1. However, organic molecules (HCOOCH$_3$, CH$_3$OCH$_3$, CCH, and c-C$_3$H$_2$) are deficient in Elias 29. We attribute the deficiency in organic molecules and richness in SO and SO$_2$ to the evolved nature of the source or the relatively high dust temperature (\protect\raisebox{-0.7ex}{$\:\stackrel{\textstyle >}{\sim}\:$} 20 K) in the parent cloud of Elias 29. The SO and SO$_2$ emissions trace rotation around the protostar. Assuming a highly inclined configuration ($i \geq 65$\degr; 0\degr\ for a face-on configuration) and Keplerian motion for simplicity, the protostellar mass is estimated to be (0.8 -- 1.0) \Msun. The $^{34}$SO and SO$_2$ emissions are asymmetric in their spectra; the blue-shifted components are weaker than the red-shifted ones. Although this may be attributed to the asymmetric molecular distribution, other possibilities are also discussed.

We present observations of the four hyperfine structure components of the OH 18 cm transition (1612, 1665, 1667 and 1720 MHz) toward Heiles Cloud 2 (HCL2) in Taurus and the dense cores L183 and L169. Toward the peculiar straight structure in the northern part of HCL2, the 1720 MHz line shows absorption against the cosmic microwave background at a velocity of $\sim$ 5.5 km s$^{-1}$, whereas the 1612 MHz line shows brighter emission than expected in local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). Such an intensity anomaly is also observed toward TMC-1 (CP), L183, and L169, where the 1612 MHz line is stronger and the 1720 MHz line is weaker than those expected under LTE. We conduct statistical equilibrium calculations considering the effect of far-infrared (FIR) radiation from surrounding clouds and find that the absorption feature of the 1720 MHz line can be reproduced by the following conditions: gas kinetic temperature lower than about 30 K, OH column density higher than 10$^{15}$ cm$^{-2}$, H$_2$ density lower than 10$^3$ cm$^{-3}$, and an ortho-to-para ratio of H$_2$ lower than 1. Therefore, the absorption feature of the 1720 MHz line is considered to trace relatively cold and dense gas that is surrounded by a warm envelope consisting of CO-dark molecular gas., Comment: 61 pages, 30 figures

An unbiased spectral line survey toward a solar-type Class 0/I protostar, IRAS04368+2557, in L1527 has been carried out in the 3 mm band with the Nobeyama 45 m telescope. L1527 is known as a warm carbon-chain chemistry (WCCC) source, which harbors abundant unsaturated organic species such as C$_n$H ($n = 3,\ 4,\ 5,\ldots$) in a warm and dense region near the protostar. The observation covers the frequency range from 80 to 116 GHz. A supplementary observation has also been conducted in the 70 GHz band to observe fundamental transitions of deuterated species. In total, 69 molecular species are identified, among which 27 species are carbon-chain species and their isomers, including their minor isotopologues. This spectral line survey provides us with a good template of the chemical composition of the WCCC source., Comment: published online in PASJ

It is important to understand the origin of molecular line intensities and chemical composition in the molecular-cloud scale in the Galactic sources because it serves as a benchmark to compare with the chemical compositions of extragalactic sources. Recent observations of the 3-mm spectra averaged over the 10-pc scale show similar spectral pattern among sources for molecular lines HCN, HCO$^+$, CCH, HNC, HNCO, c-C$_3$H$_2$, CS, SO, N$_2$H$^+$, and CN. To constrain the average physical property emitting such spectral pattern, we model molecular spectra using a time-dependent gas-grain chemical model followed by a radiative transfer calculation. We use a grid of physical parameters such as the density $n=3 \times 10^2 - 3\times 10^4$ cm$^{-3}$, the temperature, $T=10-30$ K, the visual extinction $A_{\rm V} = 2,4,10$ mag, the cosmic-ray ionization rate $\zeta = 10^{-17} - 10^{-16}$ s$^{-1}$, and the sulfur elemental abundance $S/H = 8\times 10^{-8} - 8\times 10^{-7}$. Comparison with the observed spectra indicates that spectra are well reproduced with the relatively low density of $n=(1-3) \times 10^3\,$cm$^{-3}$, $T=10\,$K, $\zeta = 10^{-17}$ s$^{-1}$, and the short chemistry timescale of $10^5$ yrs. This short chemistry timescale may indicate that molecular clouds are constantly affected by the turbulence, and exposed to low-density, low $A_{\rm V}$ regions that "refreshes" the chemical clock by UV radiation. The relatively low density obtained is orders of magnitude lower than the commonly-quoted critical density in the optically thin case. We report molecular line observations of the massive protostellar source G339.88-1.26 with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array. The observations reveal a highly collimated SiO jet extending from the 1.3 mm continuum source, which connects to a slightly wider but still highly collimated CO outflow. Rotational features perpendicular to the outflow axis are detected in various molecular emissions, including SiO, SO2, H2S, CH3OH, and H2CO emissions. Based on their spatial distributions and kinematics, we find that they trace different parts of the envelope-disk system. The SiO emission traces the disk and inner envelope in addition to the jet. The CH3OH and H2CO emissions mostly trace the infalling-rotating envelope, and are enhanced around the transition region between envelope and disk, i.e., the centrifugal barrier. The SO2 and H2S emissions are enhanced around the centrifugal barrier, and also trace the outer part of the disk. Envelope kinematics are consistent with rotating-infalling motion, while those of the disk are consistent with Keplerian rotation. The radius and velocity of the centrifugal barrier are estimated to be about 530 au and 6 km/s, leading to a central mass of about 11 solar masses, consistent with estimates based on spectral energy distribution fitting. These results indicate that an ordered transition from an infalling-rotating envelope to a Keplerian disk through a centrifugal barrier, accompanied by changes of types of molecular line emissions, is a valid description of this massive protostellar source. The science case and associated science requirements for a next-generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) are described, highlighting the five key science goals developed out of a community-driven vision of the highest scientific priorities in the next decade. Building on the superb cm observing conditions and existing infrastructure of the VLA site in the U.S. Southwest, the ngVLA is envisaged to be an interferometric array with more than 10 times the sensitivity and spatial resolution of the current VLA and ALMA, operating at frequencies spanning $\sim1.2 - 116$\,GHz with extended baselines reaching across North America. The ngVLA will be optimized for observations at wavelengths between the exquisite performance of ALMA at submm wavelengths, and the future SKA-1 at decimeter to meter wavelengths, thus lending itself to be highly complementary with these facilities. The ngVLA will be the only facility in the world that can tackle a broad range of outstanding scientific questions in modern astronomy by simultaneously delivering the capability to: (1) unveil the formation of Solar System analogues; (2) probe the initial conditions for planetary systems and life with astrochemistry; (3) characterize the assembly, structure, and evolution of galaxies from the first billion years to the present; (4) use pulsars in the Galactic center as fundamental tests of gravity; and (5) understand the formation and evolution of stellar and supermassive blackholes in the era of multi-messenger astronomy., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures; To be published in the ASP Monograph Series, "Science with a Next-Generation VLA", ed. We have observed the CCH (N=3-2, J=7/2-5/2, F=4-3 and 3-2) and SO (6_7-5_6) emission at a 0"2 angular resolution toward the low-mass Class 0 protostellar source IRAS 15398-3359 with ALMA. The CCH emission traces the infalling-rotating envelope near the protostar with the outflow cavity extended along the northeast-southwest axis. On the other hand, the SO emission has a compact distribution around the protostar. The CCH emission is relatively weak at the continuum peak position, while the SO emission has a sharp peak there. Although the maximum velocity shift of the CCH emission is about 1 km s^-1 from the systemic velocity, a velocity shift higher than 2 km s^{-1} is seen for the SO emission. This high velocity component is most likely associated with the Keplerian rotation around the protostar. The protostellar mass is estimated to be 0.007^{+0.004}_{-0.003} from the velocity profile of the SO emission. With this protostellar mass, the velocity structure of the CCH emission can be explained by the model of the infalling-rotating envelope, where the radius of the centrifugal barrier is estimated to be 40 au from the comparison with the model. The disk mass evaluated from the dust continuum emission by assuming the dust temperature of 20 K-100 K is 0.1-0.9 times the stellar mass, resulting in the Toomre Q parameter of 0.4-5. Hence, the disk structure may be partly unstable. All these results suggest that a rotationally-supported disk can be formed in the earliest stages of the protostellar evolution.

We report molecular line observations of the NGC 1333 IRAS 4C outflow in the Perseus Molecular Cloud with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array. The CCH and CS emission reveal an outflow cavity structure with clear signatures of rotation with respect to the outflow axis. The rotation is detected from about 120 au up to about 1400 au above the envelope/disk mid-plane. As the distance to the central source increases, the rotation velocity of the outflow decreases while the outflow radius increases, which gives a flat specific angular momentum distribution along the outflow. The mean specific angular momentum of the outflow is about 100 au km/s. Based on reasonable assumptions on the outward velocity of the outflow and the protostar mass, we estimate the range of outflow launching radii to be 5-15 au. Such a launching radius rules out that this outflow is launched as an X-wind, but rather, it is more consistent to be a slow disk wind launched from relatively large radii on the disk. The bipolar outflow associated with the Class 0 low-mass protostellar source (IRAS 18148-0440) in L483 has been studied in the CCH and CS line emission at 245 and 262 GHz, respectively. Sub-arcsecond resolution observations of these lines have been conducted with ALMA. Structures and kinematics of the outflow cavity wall are investigated in the CS line, and are analyzed by using a parabolic model of an outflow. We constrain the inclination angle of the outflow to be from 75 degree to 90 degree, i.e. the outflow is blowing almost perpendicular to the line of sight. Comparing the outflow parameters derived from the model analysis with those of other sources, we confirm that the opening angle of the outflow and the gas velocity on its cavity wall correlate with the dynamical timescale of the outflows. Moreover, a hint of a rotating motion of the outflow cavity wall is found. Although the rotation motion is marginal, the specific angular momentum of the gas on the outflow cavity wall is evaluated to be comparable to or twice that of the infalling-rotating envelope of L483.

We report the results of subparsec-scale submillimeter observations towards an embedded high-mass young stellar object in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) with ALMA. Complementary infrared data obtained with the AKARI satellite and the Gemini South telescope are also presented. The target infrared point source is spatially resolved into two dense molecular cloud cores; one is associated with a high-mass young stellar object (YSO core), while another is not associated with an infrared source (East core). The two cores are dynamically associated but show different chemical characteristics. Emission lines of CS, C33S, H2CS, SO, SO2, CH3OH, H13CO+, H13CN, SiO, and dust continuum are detected from the observed region. Tentative detection of HDS is also reported. The first detection of CH3OH in the SMC has a strong impact on our understanding of the formation of complex organic molecules in metal-poor environments. The gas temperature is estimated to be ~10 K based on the rotation analysis of CH3OH lines. The fractional abundance of CH3OH gas in the East core is estimated to be (0.5-1.5) x 10^(-8), which is comparable with or marginally higher than those of similar cold sources in our Galaxy despite a factor of five lower metallicity in the SMC. This work provides observational evidence that an organic molecule like CH3OH, which is largely formed on grain surfaces, can be produced even in a significantly lower metallicity environment compared to the solar neighborhood. Chemical diversity of the gas in low-mass protostellar cores is widely recognized. In order to explore its origin, a survey of chemical composition toward 36 Class 0/I protostars in the Perseus molecular cloud complex, which are selected in an unbiased way under certain physical conditions, has been conducted with IRAM 30 m and NRO 45 m telescope. Multiple lines of C2H, c-C3H2 and CH3OH have been observed to characterize the chemical composition averaged over a 1000 au scale around the protostar. The derived beam-averaged column densities show significant chemical diversity among the sources, where the column density ratios of C2H/CH3OH are spread out by 2 orders of magnitude. From previous studies, the hot corino sources have abundant CH3OH but deficient C2H, their C2H/CH3OH column density ratios being relatively low. In contrast, the warm-carbon-chain chemistry (WCCC) sources are found to reveal the high C2H/CH3OH column density ratios. We find that the majority of the sources have intermediate characters between these two distinct chemistry types. A possible trend is seen between the C2H/CH3OH ratio and the distance of the source from the edge of a molecular cloud. The sources located near cloud edges or in isolated clouds tend to have a high C2H/CH3OH ratio. On the other hand, the sources having a low C2H/CH3OH ratio tend to be located in inner regions of the molecular cloud complex. This result gives an important clue to an understanding of the origin of the chemical diversity of protostellar cores in terms of environmental effects., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJS

We have observed complex organic molecules (COMs) and deuterated species toward a hot core/corino (HC) associated with the infrared dark cloud (IRDC) clump G34.43+00.24 MM3 with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). We have detected six normal-COMs (CH3OH, CH3CHO, CH3CH2CN, CH3OCH3, HCOOCH3, and NH2CHO), one deuterated-COM (CH2DCN), and two deuterated fundamental molecules (D2CO and DNC) toward G34.43+00.24 MM3 HC. None of these lines, except for CH3OH, are detected toward the shocked regions in our data, which suggests that COMs do not originate in shocks. The abundance of the COMs relative to CH3OH in G34.43+00.24 MM3 HC is found to be similar to those in high-mass hot cores, rather than those in hot corinos in low-mass star-forming regions. This result suggests that the physical conditions of the warm-up phase of G34.43+00.24 MM3 HC are similar to those of high-mass sources. On the other hand, the D2CO abundance relative to CH$_3$OH in G34.43+00.24 MM3 HC is higher than that of other hot cores, and seems to be comparable to that of hot corinos. The relatively high D2CO/CH3OH ratio of G34.43+00.24 MM3 HC implies a long cold starless phase of G34.43+00.24 MM3 HC., Comment: accepted to ApJ

We have investigated the TUKH122 prestellar core in the Orion A cloud using ALMA 3 mm dust continuum, N$_2$H$^+$ ($J=1-0$), and CH$_3$OH ($J_K=2_K-1_K$) molecular line observations. Previous studies showed that TUKH122 is likely on the verge of star formation because the turbulence is almost dissipated and chemically evolved among other starless cores in the Orion A cloud. By combining ALMA 12-m and ACA data, we recover extended emission with a resolution of $\sim5"$ corresponding to 0.01 pc and identify 6 condensations with a mass range of $0.1-0.4$ $M_\odot$ and a radius of $\lesssim0.01$ pc. These condensations are gravitationally bound following a virial analysis and are embedded in the filament including the elongated core with a mass of $\sim29$ $M_\odot$ and a radial density profile of $r^{-1.6}$ derived by {\it Herschel}. The separation of these condensations is $\sim0.035$ pc, consistent with the thermal jeans length at a density of $4.4\times10^5$ cm$^{-3}$. This density is similar to the central part of the core. We also find a tendency that the N$_2$H$^+$ molecule seems to deplete at the dust peak condensation. This condensation may be beginning to collapse because the linewidth becomes broader. Therefore, the fragmentation still occurs in the prestellar core by thermal Jeans instability and multiple stars are formed within the TUKH122 prestellar core. The CH$_3$OH emission shows a large shell-like distribution and surrounds these condensations, suggesting that the CH$_3$OH molecule formed on dust grains is released into gas phase by non-thermal desorption such as photoevaporation caused by cosmic-ray induced UV radiation., Comment: 13 pages, 14 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

Towards the pre-stellar core L1544, the methanol (CH$_3$OH) emission forms an asymmetric ring around the core centre, where CH$_3$OH is mostly in solid form, with a clear peak 4000~au to the north-east of the dust continuum peak. As part of the NOEMA Large Project SOLIS (Seeds of Life in Space), the CH$_3$OH peak has been spatially resolved to study its kinematics and physical structure and to investigate the cause behind the local enhancement. We find that methanol emission is distributed in a ridge parallel to the main axis of the dense core. The centroid velocity increases by about 0.2~km~s$^{-1}$ and the velocity dispersion increases from subsonic to transonic towards the central zone of the core, where the velocity field also shows complex structure. This could be indication of gentle accretion of material onto the core or interaction of two filaments, producing a slow shock. We measure the rotational temperature and show that methanol is in local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) only close to the dust peak, where it is significantly depleted. The CH$_3$OH column density, $N_{tot}({\rm CH_3OH})$, profile has been derived with non-LTE radiative transfer modelling and compared with chemical models of a static core. The measured $N_{tot}({\rm CH_3OH})$ profile is consistent with model predictions, but the total column densities are one order of magnitude lower than those predicted by models, suggesting that the efficiency of reactive desorption or atomic hydrogen tunnelling adopted in the model may be overestimated; or that an evolutionary model is needed to better reproduce methanol abundance., Comment: 19 pages, 18 figures. We have analyzed the OCS, H$_2$CS, CH$_3$OH, and HCOOCH$_3$ data observed toward the low-mass protostar IRAS 16293--2422 Source B at a sub-arcsecond resolution with ALMA. A clear chemical differentiation is seen in their distributions; OCS and H$_2$CS are extended with a slight rotation signature, while CH$_3$OH and HCOOCH$_3$ are concentrated near the protostar. Such a chemical change in the vicinity of the protostar is similar to the companion (Source A) case. The extended component is interpreted by the infalling-rotating envelope model with a nearly face-on configuration. The radius of the centrifugal barrier of the infalling-rotating envelope is roughly evaluated to be ($30-50$) au. The observed lines show the inverse P-Cygni profile, indicating the infall motion with in a few 10 au from the protostar. The nearly pole-on geometry of the outflow lobes is inferred from the SiO distribution, and thus, the infalling and outflowing motions should coexist along the line-of-sight to the protostar. This implies that the infalling gas is localized near the protostar and the current launching points of the outflow have an offset from the protostar. This document describes some of the fundamental astrophysical problems that require observing capabilities at millimeter- and centimeter wavelengths well beyond those of existing, or already planned, telescopes. The results summarized in this report follow a solicitation from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory to develop key science cases for a future U. S.-led radio telescope, the "next generation Very Large Array" (ngVLA). The ngVLA will have roughly 10 times the collecting area of the Jansky VLA, operate at frequencies from 1 GHz to 116 GHz with up to 20 GHz of bandwidth, possess a compact core for high surface-brightness sensitivity, and extended baselines of at least hundreds of kilometers and ultimately across the continent to provide high-resolution imaging.
