Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)(ISAS)), Sagamihara, Kanagawa Japan, The on-orbit demonstrator of next generation instruments for electric power system called NESSIE (Next Generation Small Satellite Instrument for Electric power system), will be installed on the Small Scientific Satellite Platform for Rapid Investigation and Test-A (SPRINT-A) satellite, scheduled for launch in the summer of 2013 by Epsilon launcher. The mission is the on-orbit demonstration of the aluminum-laminated lithium-ion capacitor (LIC) and of the lightweight solar panel called KKM-PNL which consist of space solar sheets using thin-film MJ solar cells called. LIC has sufficient safety compared to lithium-ion secondary battery (LIB) and wide operating temperature range. In addition, LIC can operate for a long term. Although the energy density of LIC is lower than that of LIB, the practical energy density is equivalent to LIB due to LIC's superior DOD allowance. Therefore, it is suitable for long-term missions such as planetary explorations. Thin-film MJ solar cells such as IMM InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs 3J cells have flexibility as well as high conversion efficiencies relative to conventional rigid 3J solar cells. Using a combination of the thin-film MJ solar cells and light flexible paddles, satellite mass can be greatly reduced. ISAS/JAXAでは、将来の月惑星着陸ミッションに用いる誘導航法用センサとして、Cバンドのパルスレーダを開発している。所定の地点へピンポイントで軟着陸するミッションを考える場合、着陸レーダには、対地高度のみならず、表面に対する水平方向速度を5％あるいは10cm/sといった高い精度で測定することが求められる。これに対し、著者らは、受信パルス内の複数の時間サンプルにおいてドップラ周波数を測定するアイデアに基づく、新たな速度測定の方法を提案している(複数サンプル方式)。本稿では、ビーム傾斜角やビーム幅、あるいはパルス幅などのレーダ設計に係る種々のパラメータと複数サンプル方式の速度測定精度の関係について、シミュレータを開発して定量的に検討した結果について報告する。, A radar for navigation in future Japanese lunar landing missions (e.g., SELENE-2) is being developed in the ISAS/JAXA. The ability of pinpoint soft landing on lunar surfaces, where we want to examine, broadens the range of scientific and exploration missions. In order to perform the pinpoint landing, measurement of relative velocity against the surfaces is considered to be essential. So the C-band pulse radar provides not only altitude but also velocity information. Required accuracy of the velocity measurement is less than 5 percent or 10 cm/s. Until now, we have proposed a novel method based on the Doppler measurement at multiple points within a received pulse. While the Doppler frequency at each point has a kind of ambiguity, the most probable velocity can be estimated by fitting the multi-point measurement with a theoretical curve in the plane of range time and the Doppler frequency. The multi-points method was implemented on our developing radar BBM (Bread Board Model), and tested in the helicopter-based field experiments. On the start of the next development phases (i.e., EM (Engineering Model) and PFM (Proto Flight Model)) soon, it is important to understand how the parameters in the radar design affect the accuracy of the velocity measurement. We have developed a radar simulator, with which we can examine the relations between the measurement accuracy and several design parameters: Beam width (range/azimuth), beam tilt angle, pulse width, A/D sampling frequency, point selection, and so on. Additionally, in order to make the method robust, vertical altitude is swept over a range of its possible error and roughness of the target surface. JAXA宇宙科学研究本部では、将来の月惑星着陸ミッションに欠かせないセンサとして、距離測定と速度測定を行うパルス方式の電波高度速度計(着陸レーダ)の開発を行っている。月や惑星に着陸して本格的な科学観測をするためには、分散誤差100m程度で複雑な地形の中にピンポイントで着陸する技術が要求されている。本研究の着陸レーダは周波数4.3GHzのパルスレーダで、高度と速度を同時に測定する。BBM(Bread Board Model)を試作し、実験用航空機に搭載してフィールド試験を行った。その結果要求精度の5％を達成することができ、また、姿勢が変化した場合や複雑な地形に対しても測定可能であることが確認された。本論文ではBBMと高度測定原理、およびフィールド試験の結果より高度測定精度について報告する。, Institute of Space and Astronautical Science JAXA develops the radio altimeter and velocity meter (landing radar) that is one of mandatory navigation sensor for a planetary lander. The landing radar can measure its relative altitude and speed from planetary surface by C band (4.3 [GHz]) pulse. The BBM (Bread Board Model) with the function which can measure speed and altitude simultaneously was manufactured and the field experiment has been done by using helicopter that carried the BBM radar. From the result of the field experiment, the BBM radar realized the design performance and attained 5 [percent] of the required accuracy from the lander system. It was also able to evaluate the geographical feature dependability of measurement accuracy by comparing a natural surface with an ideal surface at the Airport.
