The first example of salicylaldoxime (SA) intercalated LDH (SA-LDH) is fabricated, which displays extremely large capture capacity and ultrafast extraction rate for U(VI) in aqueous solutions and seawater. We report the first example of MgAl layered double hydroxide intercalated with salicylaldoxime (SA-LDH) which exhibits excellent uranium (U(VI)) capture performance. In U(VI) aqueous solutions, the SA-LDH shows a tremendous maximum U(VI) sorption capacity (q m U) of 502 mg·g−1, surpassing most known sorbents. For the aqueous solution with an initial U(VI) concentration (C 0 U) of ∼ 10 ppm, ≥99.99 % uptake is achieved in a wide pH range of 3–10. At C 0 U ∼ 20 ppm, >99 % uptake is reached within only 5 min, and pseudo-second-order kinetics rate constant (k 2) of 44.9 g·mg−1·min−1 reaches the record value, placing the SA-LDH amongst the fastest U adsorbing materials reported to date. In contaminated seawater with 35 ppm of U while highly concentrated metal ions of Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and K+, the SA-LDH still displays exceptionally high selectivity and ultrafast extraction for UO 2 2+, giving >95 % uptake of U(VI) within 5 min, and the k 2 value of 0.308 g·mg−1·min−1 for seawater surpasses most reported values for aqueous solutions. Versatile binding modes toward U by SA-LDH, including complexation (UO 2 2+ with SA− and/or CO 3 2–), ion exchange and precipitation, contribute to the preferable uptake of U at different concentrations. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analyses demonstrate that one uranyl ion (UO 2 2+) binds to two SA− anions and two H 2 O molecules forming 8-coordinated configuration. The U coordinates with O atom of the phenolic hydroxyl group and N atom of the –C N–O− group of SA−, forming a stable six-membered ring motif, which endows the fast and robust capture of U. New nanophenolic oxime complexes of the type [M(κ2‐Saly)2] {where HSaly = salicyl‐aldoxime; M = Co(1), Ni(2), Cu(3), Pd(4), Pt(5), Zn(6), Cd(7), and Hg(8)} were prepared and characterized by different spectroscopic methods. The surface morphology and the micrographs of the investigated complexes were checked by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results indicate the successful preparation of nanocomplexes with nanoparticles size. In addition, the antibacterial activity was studied against three different pathogenic bacteria, and the Pt(II) complex displayed the highest activity compared with free salicylaldoxime ligand and other complexes. Magnetic susceptibility and ultraviolet (UV)–visible spectroscopic measurements were used to deduce the geometry of the complexes, which was then validated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The in vitro antitumor activity was investigated by MTT assays against HepG‐2 cell lines. The Zn(II) and Pt(II) complexes displayed good activity with IC50 values at 17.31 ± 0.95 and 11.78 ± 0.54 μM, respectively. Functionalized magnetic nanocomposites were considered as promising adsorbents owing to their abundant functional groups and ease of separation properties. Herein, we combined the solvothermal method with molecular copolymerization to synthesize a salicylaldoxime-grafted magnetic polydopamine (SMP) core-shell hybrid and exploited it for Cu(II) adsorption. The physicochemical properties of SMP were comprehensively studied by SEM, TEM, XRD, FT-IR, TGA, XPS, and VSM measurements. The results manifested that polydopamine acts as a bridge connecting magnetic iron oxide and salicylaldoxime to fabricated core-shell hybrids with rich functional groups. The batch experimental results showed that the Cu(II) adsorption was consumingly pH-reliant behavior, while adsorption data fitted the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isothermal model well, and the adsorption process achieved equilibrium within 60 min. Moreover, SMP exhibited remarkable anti-interference and can be recycled for 5 times with an inconspicuous decrease in adsorption performance. Importantly, salicylaldoxime functionalization endowed SMP with maximum Cu(II) adsorption capacity of 141.24 mg/g at pH 6.0 and 25 °C as compared with pure MP. Based on FT-IR and XPS study, the main adsorption mechanisms were proposed with a synergistic effect including a strong chemical chelation and partial Cu(II) reduction. Importantly, this strategy can be extended to multifunctional magnetic composites for Cu-contaminated wastewater cleanup. During the chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) process, copper (Cu) is susceptible to excessive corrosion, which can lead to an increase in surface roughness of the wafer. In severe cases, this excessive corrosion can result in short circuits, open circuits, and even global interconnect failures. Therefore, this study investigates the inhibitory properties of salicylaldoxime (SA) as a corrosion inhibitor for Cu corrosion through systematic experimental measurements and theoretical calculations. The research findings demonstrate that both SA and SA− exhibit strong molecular activity. They can adsorb onto the surface of Cu through chemical and physical interactions in a parallel or slightly tilted manner, forming inhibitor films that effectively shield against the corrosion caused by corrosive particles. The corrosion inhibition performance of SA is enhanced with increasing concentration. Moreover, SA can react with Cu2+ to form insoluble complexes. It is speculated that these complexes may deposit on the surface of Cu, serving as complementary inhibitor films. These new discoveries provide novel insights and robust support for a better understanding of the corrosion inhibition mechanism of SA and its potential in subsequent practical applications in Cu CMP. The crystal structures of three salicyaldoxime compounds, namely 2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzaldehyde oxime, C8H9NO2, 1, 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde oxime, C7H7NO3, 2, and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde oxime, C8H9NO3, 3, are discussed. In each compound, the hydroxyl groups are essentially coplanar with their attached phenyl group. The interplanar angles between the C=N—O moieties of the oxime unit and their attached phenyl rings are 0.08 (9), 1.08 (15) and 6.65 (15)° in 1, 2 and 3, respectively. In all three molecules, the 2-hydroxy group forms an intramolecular O—H...N(oxime) hydrogen bond. In compound (1), intermolecular O—H(oxime)...O(hydroxyl) hydrogen bonds generate R22(14) dimers, related by inversion centres. In compound 2, intermolecular O—H(oxime)...O(4-hydroxy) hydrogen bonds generate C9 chains along the b-axis direction, while O—H(4-hydroxyl)...O(2-hydroxyl) interactions form zigzag C6 spiral chains along the c-axis direction, generated by a screw axis at 1, y, 1/4: the combination of the two chains provides a bimolecular sheet running parallel to the b axis, which lies between 0–1/2 c and 1/2–1 c. In compound 3, similar C9 chains, along the b-axis direction are generated by O—H(oxime)...O(4-methoxy) hydrogen bonds. The organically modified titanium alkoxides Ti2(Oi-Pr)4(OOCCMe2O)2(i-PrOH)2 and Ti4(Oi-Pr)4(SA)6 were obtained from the reaction of Ti(Oi-Pr)4 with 2-hydroxy-isobutyric acid and salicyladoxime (SA-H2), respectively. Reaction of 1,3-dibenzoyl acetone (DBA-H) did not result in a substituted titanium alkoxide derivative, but instead in the oxo cluster Ti4O2(Oi-Pr)8(DBA)2 after allowing moisture to diffuse into the reaction mixture. The three titanium compounds show common structural features which are different to derivatives void of ligand OH groups. Effects of common ions, namely hydroxyl ions and carbonate, on the adsorption and flotation of malachite with salicylaldoxime as a collector was investigated, making use of solubility, micro-flotation, zeta potential, contact angle, FTIR, and XPS measurements. The results suggested that hydroxyl and carbonate ions affect malachite recovery through altering solubility of this mineral. Under conditions of lower solubility, more stable copper atoms acted as adsorption sites for retaining salicylaldoxime on the malachite surface, and the collector consumed by copper species in slurry was reduced. This allowed more collectors to get adsorbed onto malachite surface, resulting in improved malachite recovery. Zeta potential, FTIR, and XPS measurements indicated that salicylaldoxime chemically adsorbs onto malachite by forming copper salicylaldoxime chelates, in which two salicylaldoxime molecules react with one copper atom by N atom and the O atom combined with benzene ring. For the determination of salicylaldoxime in environmental water samples, a stable and rapid method with low detection was proposed and established, based on the liquid-liquid extraction-high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detector. Parameters including extraction solvent, ionic strength, solution pH, and extraction pattern were discussed for the optimal quantification of salicylaldoxime-spiked water. When the described method was applied to four spiked water samples, the obtained average extraction recovery rate was found between 87%-107% and relative standard deviation was below 6%. At the same time, good linear relationships were observed for spiked water samples from 0.01 to 10 μg/mL (R2=0.9993). In addition, the detection limit of salicylaldoxime was revealed between 0.003-0.008 μg/mL, which is two orders of magnitude lower than previously reported results. A water-soluble salicylaldoxime-functionalized poly(ethylene glycol)-grafted dicationic ionic liquid was successfully developed as an efficient ligand for palladium acetate-catalyzed Mizoroki–Heck reactions in water. A series of aryl bromides and terminal olefin were applied to this catalytic system and the corresponding coupling products were produced in high yields. Novel copper (II) ion imprinted polymers (Cu(II)-IIPs) were designed and synthesized as solid phase absorbents for the selective deep removal of Cu 2 + from concentrated zinc sulfate solution. Salicylaldoximes, used as chelating ligands, were anchored onto the polymer networks through quaternary ammonium cation spacers. The effect of pH, temperature, contact time, and swelling on the adsorption selectivity and the copper removal efficiency of Cu(II)-IIPs were investigated in a laboratory-scale cell. The results showed that the adsorption of Cu 2 + increased significantly with increasing pH from 1 to 7, and increased with decreasing operation temperature. The equilibrium Cu 2 + adsorption capacity of Cu(II)-IIPs from the zinc sulfate aqueous solution was 96 mg·g − 1 at 25 °C in pH 5.0 for 10 min. Under optimized processing conditions, the copper removal efficiency reached 99.9%, and the concentration of the residual copper (II) ions in the purified ZnSO 4 aqueous solution is 35 μg·L − 1 , significant lower than the maximum acceptable value as 100 μg·L − 1 in the hydrometallurgical zinc process. The intramolecular O–H···O resonance-assisted hydrogen bonds in crystal structures of mononuclear gallium (III) complexes with salicylaldoximes are investigated. The molecular structures of these compounds were taken from X-ray crystal structures and further used to perform theoretical calculations at B3LYP/6-311G(d, p) level. The geometrical parameters of O–H···O intramolecular H-bonds were analyzed. The natural bond orbital theory (NBO) and the atoms in molecules theory (AIM) were also applied to get a more precise insight into the nature of such H-bond interactions. The bond critical points and the ring critical points were determined and their characteristics were also analyzed.

A polymerizable complex of copper(II) ion with unsaturated quaternary ammonium cation-modified salicylaldoxime ligand was prepared and used to synthesize a novel copper(II) ion imprinted polymers (Cu(II)-IIPs). Elemental analysis (EA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and NMR spectroscopy confirmed the structures of the polymerizable complex and Cu(II)-IIPs. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis (BET), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterized physical properties and morphologies of synthesized metal complex and corresponding polymers. The effect of pH, contact time, and initial Cu 2 + and SO 4 2 − concentration on the simultaneous adsorption of Cu 2 + and SO 4 2 − ions of Cu(II)-IIPs were investigated. Cu(II)-IIPs showed high hydrophilicity and simultaneously rapid adsorption of Cu 2 + and SO 4 2 − from solution. Moreover, Cu(II)-IIPs displayed highest adsorption capacity in the pH range of 5.0–6.5, the separation factor ( β ) between Cu 2 + with respect to Fe 3 + was 1866, the equilibrium adsorption capacities for Cu 2 + and SO 4 2 − were almost the same and close to 0.13 mmol g − 1 at 25 °C. Stripping experiments revealed that 1.5 mol L − 1 H 2 SO 4 was an effective eluent for desorbing copper (II) ions from Cu(II)-IIPs. We have performed density functional theory computations to study interactions of salicylaldoxime (SALO) and its derivatives possessing appropriate alkyl group substitution in the main chain (CM-SALO) or side chain (CS-SALO) with copper, zinc and lead divalent ions. The objective of this study was to understand the underlying interaction mechanisms so as to exploit this knowledge in the design and development of selective reagents for solvent extraction. All computations were performed using plane wave ultrasoft pseudopotentials and Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof generalized gradient approximation as implemented in the Plane Wave Self consistent field code. The relative order of selectivity, as per the computed interaction energies, was found to be: Cu > Zn > Pb. CM-SALO derivatives exhibited stronger interactions as compared to the CS-SALO derivatives. Our findings were consistent with our experimental results reported earlier and were explained by highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital and Lowdin charge analyses. A series of novel VEGFR-2 inhibitors containing oxime as hinge binding fragment were described. A strategy of pseudo six-membered ring formed through intramolecular hydrogen bond was employed to mimic the planar quinazoline. The oxime group was firstly introduced to interact with hinge region of VEGFR-2. Most of compounds tested showed moderate to high VEGFR-2 inhibitory activity. In particular, 12l , 12p and 12y exhibited significant enzymatic inhibitory activity as well as potent antiproliferative activity against cancer cells. Molecular docking suggested that the salicylaldoxime formed two hydrogen bonds with hinge region. These biphenylureas could serve as promising lead compounds for developing novel anticancer agents. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper was to study the corrosion resistance of water-based sol-gel coatings containing titania nanoparticles doped with organic inhibitors for corrosion protection of AA2024 alloy. Design/methodology/approach -- The coatings were obtained using tetraethylorthosilicate, 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, titanium (IV) tetrapropoxide and poly(ethylene imine) polymer as cross-linking agents. As corrosions inhibitors, 2-mercaptobenzoxazole and salicylaldoxime were incorporated into the sol-gel for the improvement of the corrosion resistance. The corrosion protection performance of coatings was studied using the potentiodynamic scan and the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. Atomic force microscopy was used to investigate surface morphology of the coatings. Findings -- The results indicated that doping the sol-gel coatings with inhibitors leads to improvement of the corrosion protection. The comparison of doped coatings confirmed that corrosion protection performance of the sol-gel coatings doped with 2-mercaptobenzoxazole was better than for the sol-gel coatings doped with salicylaldoxime. Also the EIS results verified self-healing effects for the sol-gel coatings doped with 2-mercaptobenzoxazole. Originality/value -- This paper indicates 2-mercaptobenzoxazole and salicylaldoxime can be added as corrosion inhibitors to sol-gel coatings to improve their corrosion protective properties for AA2024 alloy. Abstract: Structural determination and magnetic studies of a 3d–4f heterometallic hexanuclear [CoIII 2DyIII 4(μ3-OH)2(salpa)4(NO3)4(OAc)4(H2O)2] (1) cluster, where H2salpa=N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-3-amino-1-propanol, are reported. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that the cluster contains a defect-dicubane central core composed of four DyIII ions, which are supported by two oxygen atoms from the acetate groups, two alkoxo groups and two μ3-OH groups, which are displaced above and below the Dy4 plane. Moreover, the remaining CoIII ions are linked to the defect-dicubane core through two alkoxo groups and two phenoxido groups. Because of the presence of diamagnetic CoIII ions, the magnetic properties of complex 1 can be attributed to the presence of the four DyIII ions. Variable temperature direct current (dc) magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal spin–orbital coupling and/or antiferromagnetic interactions between the DyIII ions. Two novel salicylaldoxime-functionalized poly(ethylene glycol)-bridged dicationic ([salox-PEG1000-DIL][BF4] and [salox-PEG1000-DIL][PF6]) were prepared and characterized. [salox-PEG1000-DIL][BF4] was found to be an efficient and recyclable ligand for palladium-catalyzed in water. Abstract: The 1D coordination polymer [MnIII 6O2(O2CC6H4CO2)(salox)6(dmf)4] n ·2n(dmf) (2·2n(dmf)) was obtained from the reaction of [MnIII 6O2(O2CPh)2(salox)6(Me2CO)2(H2O)2]·2Me2CO (1·2Me2CO) with excess of terephthalic acid in MeCN/dmf. The structure of 2 consists of [MnIII 6O2(salox)6(dmf)4]2+ units bridged through the terephthalato dianions. The Mn6 units present the [Mn6(μ 3-O)2(μ 2-OR)2]12+ core and can be described as two [Mn3(μ 3-O)]7+ triangular subunits linked by two μ2-oximato oxygen atoms of the salox2− ligands, which show the μ3-κ2 O:κO′:κN coordination mode. Each carboxylato group of the terephthalato dianion is coordinated through the usual syn,syn μ2-κO:κO′ coordination mode. Both 2 and 1 contain the same [Mn6(μ 3-O)2(μ 2-OR)2]12+ core, and the replacement of the two benzoates in 1 from the terephthalato dianion generates the 1D structure in 2. The dynamic magnetic properties of both compounds were monitored by alternating current magnetic susceptibility measurements. Both complexes exhibit Single Molecule Magnet behavior with no evidence for inter-cluster magnetic interactions for 2. For complex 1 an unusually broad distribution of relaxation times was observed. Abstract: New compounds containing a novel zinc binding group (salicylaldoxime system) were identified as effective inhibitors of carbonic anhydrases (CAs). This structural motif seems to bind the catalytic zinc ion of CAs, revealing itself as a new valid alternative to the sulfonamide group. Computational procedures were used to investigate the binding mode of this class of compounds, within the active site of CAII. This study suggests that the salicylaldoxime moiety binds the zinc ion through the oxime oxygen atom that also forms an H-bond with T199. The results herein obtained will allow the development of new CA-inhibitors bearing the salicylaldoxime moiety. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The reaction of [MnII(S-mandelato)2] complexes with 5-Methyl-salicylaldoxim (5-Me-saloxH 2 ) leads to the chiral hexanuclear manganese(III) complex [Mn6(μ3-O)2(5-Me-salox)6(S-mandelato)2(EtOH)6]. The structure can be viewed as two neutral stacked {Mn3(μ3-O)(5-Me-salox)3(S-mandelato)(EtOH)3} triangular subunits linked together in a head-to-tail manner by two phenoxo and two oximato μ3-oxygen atoms of the deprotonated oxime groups of the ligands. The magnetic study of this chiral hexanuclear manganese(III) complex reveals a SMM behaviour with an energy barrier of the slow relaxation of the magnetisation equal to 35K. Considering the structural features, the fitting of the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility gives a good agreement with the experimental data considering two sets of interactions: J 1 =+0.37cm−1 and J 2 =−0.70cm−1 within (ferromagnetic) and between (antiferromagnetic), respectively, the {Mn3(μ3-O)(5-Me-salox)3(S-mandelato)(EtOH)3} triangular subunits. Abstract: The paper presents application of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) modified with 5-dodecylsalicylaldoxime to copper(II) flow-injection on-line preconcentration and flame atomic absorption spectrometric (FAAS) determination. Two new sorbents were obtained by impregnation of MWCNTs with Cu(II)-LIX 622® complex, however in the first case modification was preceded by carbon wall activation via oxidization (Cu-LIX-CNT-A sorbent), and in the second one no surface activation was performed (Cu-LIX-CNT sorbent). It was found that effective leaching of initially introduced copper and Cu(II) retained in preconcentration process could be realized with the use 7% and 5% (v/v) nitric acid, for particular sorbents. Testing the influence of loading solution pH and rate of loading on sorption it was found out that optimal range of loading solution pH was about 4.5–6.3 for activated and 6.15–6.25 for non-activated CNT. Investigation of sorption kinetics showed that the process can be described by pseudo-second order reaction model. Sorption equilibrium conditions (90% sorption) for LIX-CNT-A and LIX-CNT were obtained after 8–15min, respectively and maximum sorption capacity for the new sorbents amounted to 18.1mgg−1 and 31.6mgg−1, respectively. For the examined sorbents enrichment factors increased with extension of loading time up to 180s: linearly for activated and non-linearly for non-activated MWCNTs. Influence of potential interferents such as Cd(II), Zn(II), Fe(III), Mg(II) and Ca(II) ions on copper(II) sorption on the new CNT materials was examined individually and with the use of 25–2 factorial design. The study revealed significant interference from iron, magnesium and calcium ions at relatively high concentrations. Applicability of the proposed sorbents was tested for Cu(II) determination in various kinds of water samples and the results were compared with those obtained with the use of ICP MS as a reference technique. Copper(II) determination in two certified reference materials: waste water (EU-H-3) and ground (ES-H-2) water was performed in order to assess trueness of the evaluated preconcentration procedures. Abstract: Reaction of salycilaldoxime (saloxH2) with copper(II) chloride in strongly alkaline methanol yields a sparingly soluble green product which recrystallised from DMSO as a solvate of composition [{{Cu(saloxH)}3O}3H1.5]·Cl4.5·12DMSO·1.83H2O. This has three independent planar, oxygen-centred, triangular cations, [{Cu(saloxH)}3O], in the asymmetric unit. The central oxygen atom is surrounded by three square-planar coordinated copper(II) ions, which are bonded to the central O-atom, the Ophenol and Noximato atoms of one saloxH− chelate and to the Ooximato atom of the adjacent saloxH− ligand. These triangular cations are stacked, with alternating short {2.46(1) or 2.53(1)Å} and long {7.31(1) or 7.05(1)Å} central oxygen separations, with the closer pairs linked by a hydrogen bond. The 4.5 positive charges of the three cations of the asymmetric unit, [{Cu3(saloxH)3(O)1.5(OH)1.5}3)]4.5+ are balanced by 4.5 chloride ions. Two DMSO molecules lie between the wider spaced pairs of triangles, with their oxygen atoms weakly coordinated to copper(II) ions, with 10 further DMSO molecules and water molecules packed around and between the triangular cations. Abstract: The reaction of salicylaldoxime (H2salox) with MnCl2·4H2O and NEt4OH in MeOH affords the trinuclear manganese complex (NEt4)[Mn3O(salox)3(MeOH)2(H2O)2Cl2]·MeOH (1·MeOH). A similar reaction of 1·MeOH was carried out using MnBr2·4H2O to obtain the hexanuclear manganese complex (NEt4)3{NaBr2[Mn3O(salox)3(H2O)4Br2]2} (2). The reaction of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde oxime (4-MeO-H2salox) and Mn(ClO4)2·6H2O with 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene (dpe) in MeOH/DMF mixtures yields the one-dimensional complex {[Mn3O(4-MeOsalox)3(dpe)1.5(DMF)2(H2O)](ClO4)} n (3·DMF·H2O). Complex 1·MeOH shows a typical structure of a [MnIII 3O]7+ core, and complex 2 contains a dimer [MnIII 3O]7+ core connected by a Na+ ion. Complex 3 has a one-dimensional chain structure constructed from [MnIII 3O]7+ units linked by dpe ligands. Abstract: Stochiometric reaction of salicylaldoxime and tantalum or niobium ethoxide in toluene at room temperature resulted in formation of [M2O(C7H5NO2)2(C2H5O)4], M=Ta and Nb which were crystallized from CH2Cl2 at −5°C and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The molecular structures of [Ta2O(C7H5NO2)2(C2H5O)4] was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and compared with molecular structure of [Nb2O(C7H5NO2)2(C2H5O)4]. The geometries at metal atoms are distorted octahedron which shared an apex through bridged oxygen. Each dianionic salicylaldoximate ligand chelates to the one metal ion through its phenolic oxygen and oximate nitrogen atoms, and to another metal ion through its oximate oxygen atom. Abstract: In a continuing effort to improve the subtype selectivity and agonist potency of estrogen receptor β (ERβ) ligands, we have designed and developed a thus far unexplored structural series obtained by molecular refinements of monoaryl-substituted salicylaldoximes (Salaldox B). The most interesting compounds in this series (2c, d) show remarkably high ERβ-binding affinities, with K i values reaching the sub-nanomolar range (K i =0.38nM for 2c and 0.57nM for 2d), and have very high levels of ERβ-subtype selectivity. Both compounds show a potent full agonist character on ERβ (EC50 =0.23nM for 2c and 1.3nM for 2d). Furthermore, 2d shows a remarkable functional subtype selectivity, with a β/α transcription potency ratio 50-fold higher than that of estradiol. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Ion-imprinted polymers (IIPs) were prepared for uranyl ion (imprint ion) by formation of binary (salicylaldoxime (SALO) or 4-vinylpyridine (VP)) or ternary (salicylaldoxime and 4-vinylpyridine) complex in 2-methoxy ethanol (porogen) following copolymerization with methacrylic acid (MAA) as a functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as crosslinking monomer using 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. Control polymers (CPs) were also prepared under identical experimental conditions without using imprint ion. The above synthesized polymers were characterized by surface area measurement, microanalysis and FT-IR analysis techniques. The imprinted polymer formed with ternary complex of UO2 2+–SALO–VP (1:2:2, IIP3) showed quantitative enrichment of uranyl ion from dilute aqueous solution and hence was chosen for detailed studies. The optimal pH for quantitative enrichment is 3.5–6.5. The adsorbed UO2 2+ was completely eluted with 10mL of 1.0M HCl. The retention capacity of IIP3 was found to be 0.559mmolg−1. Further, the distribution ratio and selectivity coefficients of uranium and other selected inorganic ions were also evaluated. Five replicate determinations of 25μgL−1 of uranium(VI) gave a mean absorbance of 0.032 with a relative standard deviation of 2.20%. The detection limit corresponding to three times the standard deviation of the blank was found to be 5μgL−1. New separation and preconcentration procedures based on the coprecipitation of Fe(III) and Pb(II) ions with Cu(II) salicylaldoxime coprecipitant and of Cu(II) with Ni(II) salicylaldoxime coprecipitant were studied comparatively. The coprecipitation conditions for each method, such as the effect of the pH, the amounts of carrier elements and reagent, sample volume and matrix effects were examined in detail. The determinations of analyte ions were performed by flame AAS. Under optimised conditions the detection limits of the methods (3s/b) were 1.58, 3.56 and 1.32 μg L−1 for iron(III), lead(II) an copper(II), respectively. The precision (as RSD %) of the methods was ≤3.2%. Each method was validated by both spiked tap water, dam water samples and by the analysis of certified reference material (TMDA-54.4 fortified lake water). Abstract: The use of salicylaldehyde oxime (H2salox) in manganese(III) carboxylate chemistry has yielded new members of the family of hexanuclear compounds presenting the [Mn6(μ3-O)2(μ2-OR)2]12+ core, complexes [MnIII 6(μ3-O)2(O2CPh)2(salox)6(L1)2(L2)2] (L1 =py, L2 =H2O (1); L1 =Me2CO, L2 =H2O (2); L1 =L2 =MeOH (3)). Addition of NaOMe to the acetonitrile reaction mixture, afforded the 1D complex [MnIII 3Na(μ3-O)(O2CPh)2(salox)3(MeCN)] n (4), whereas addition of NaClO4 to the acetone reaction mixture afforded an analogous 1D complex [MnIII 3Na(μ3-O)(O2CPh)2(salox)3(Me2CO)] n (5). The structures of 1–3 present the [Mn6(μ3-O)2(μ2-OR)2]12+ core and can be described as two [Mn3(μ3-O)]7+ triangular subunits linked by two μ2-oximato oxygen atoms of the salox2− ligands, which show the less common μ3-κ2 O:κO′:κN coordination mode. The benzoato ligands are coordinated through the usual syn,syn-μ2-κO:κO′ mode. The 1D polymeric structures of 4 and 5 consist of alternating [Mn3(μ3-O)]7+ subunits and Na+ atoms linked through two μ3-κ2 O:κO′:κN and one μ4-κ2 O:κ2 O′:κN salox2− ligands as well as one syn,anti-μ2-κO:κO′ benzoato ligand. DC and AC magnetic susceptibility studies on 1 revealed the stabilization of an S =4 ground state, and indications of single-molecule magnetism behavior, whereas the DC experimental data from polycrystalline sample of 5 are indicative of antiferromagnetic interactions within the [Mn3] subunit.
