The presence of ESBLs and CRE in E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae poses a significant challenge in healthcare and community settings. These enzymes can confer resistance to multiple antibiotics, limiting treatment options for infections caused by these strains. This resistance complicates infection management, leading to prolonged illness, increased healthcare costs, and higher mortality. This cross-sectional study, conducted from 2021 to 2022 at three hospitals in the northern border region of Saudi Arabia, involved collecting 541 samples from various wards and units. Samples were inoculated on blood-agar and MacConkey’s media, incubated overnight at 37°C, and analyzed for growth. Antibiotic susceptibility was tested using the “MicroScan WalkAway-96 SI-automated system. A total of 541 positive cases were collected from three major cities in the northern border territory of Saudi Arabia. Observations show that E. coli (18.66%, n = 101) was the most prominent pathogen, compared to Klebsiella pneumoniae (9.9%, n = 54). Females were more prone to ESBL-producing E. coli infections, with 67% having a urinary tract infection, whereas male patients were more predisposed to respiratory K. pneumoniae infections (54% compared to females at 46%). Out of 155 samples, 49.01% were ESBL-producing E. coli, and 20.38% were ESBL+CRE. Furthermore, 15.68% of K. pneumoniae were ESBL producers. E. coli showed resistance to 92% of ampicillin, 90% of oxacillin, 79% of ceftazidime, 76% of cefepime, 57% of aztreonam, and 53% of cephalothin, while amikacin (85%), imipenem, and meropenem were effective. Klebsiella pneumoniae showed 74% resistance to ampicillin, 67% to ceftazidime, 63% to co-trimoxazole, 57% to amoxicillin-clavulanate, and 42% to aztreonam. The sensitive antibiotics were imipenem (46%), aztreonam (42%), and amikacin (44%). The results are both intriguing and alarming. It is crucial to address the spread of ESBL and CRE-producing organisms.

Abstract Genomic structural variants (SVs) greatly impact human health, but much is unknown about the mechanisms that generate the largest class of nonrecurrent alterations. Common fragile sites (CFSs) are unstable loci that provide a model for SV formation, especially large deletions, under replication stress. We study SV junction formation as it occurs in human cell lines by applying error-minimized capture sequencing to CFS DNA harvested after low-dose aphidicolin treatment. SV junctions form throughout CFS genes at a 5-fold higher rate after cells pass from G2 into M-phase. Neither SV formation nor CFS expression depend on mitotic DNA synthesis (MiDAS), an error-prone form of replication active at CFSs. Instead, analysis of tens of thousands of de novo SV junctions combined with DNA repair pathway inhibition reveal a primary role for DNA polymerase theta (POLQ)-mediated end-joining (TMEJ). We propose an important role for mitotic TMEJ in nonrecurrent SV formation genome wide.

The Train Rolling-Stock Examination (TRSE) is a safety examination process that physically examines the bogie parts of a moving train, typically at speeds over 30 km/h. Currently, this inspection process is done manually by railway personnel in many countries to ensure safety and prevent interruptions to rail services. Although many earlier attempts have been made to semi-automate this process through computer-vision models, these models are iterative and still require manual intervention. Consequently, these attempts were unsuitable for real-time implementations. In this work, we propose a detection model by utilizing a deep-learning based classifier that can precisely identify bogie parts in real-time without manual intervention, allowing an increase in the deployability of these inspection systems. We implemented the Anchor-Free Yolov8 (AFYv8) model, which has a decoupled-head module for recognizing bogie parts. Additionally, we incorporated bogie parts tracking with the AFYv8 model to gather information about any missing parts. To test the effectiveness of the AFYv8-model, the bogie videos were captured at three different timestamps and the result shows the increase in the recognition accuracy of TRSE by 10 % compared to the previously developed classifiers. This research has the potential to enhance railway safety and minimize operational interruptions.

Natural herbs have garnered significant research recently as their components target multiple disease signaling pathways, making them highly potential for various disease prevention and treatment. Embelin, a naturally occurring benzoquinone isolated from Embelia ribes, has shown promising biological activities such as antitumor, antidiabetic, anti-oxidant, and antimicrobial. Various mechanisms have been reported, including monitoring genes that synchronize the cell cycle, up-regulating multiple anti-oxidant enzymes, suppressing genes that prevent cell death, influencing transcription factors, and preventing inflammatory biomarkers. However, the hydrophobic nature of embelin leads to poor absorption and limits its therapeutic potential. This review highlights a wide range of nanocarriers used as delivery systems for embelin, including polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, nanostructured lipid carriers, micelles, nanoemulsion, and metallic nanoparticles. These embelin nanomedicine formulations have been developed in preclinical studies as a possible treatment for many disorders and characterized using various in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models.

Purpose: To identify the awareness, behaviour and psychological impact of cyberbullying among adolescent. Method: A Cross-sectional questionnaire-based study conducted on secondary school students from grades 9-12th. The study got approval from the Institutional Research Board. The Inclusion criterion was school students of all nationalities who were willing to participate. Signed informed consent signed was taken. We used a P value of < 0.05 and a 95% confidence interval (CI). Result: Out of 513 enrolled, 450 completed the survey (response rate 87.7%). Age ranged between 13 to 20 years of them 303 (67.3%) were female. Awareness of cyberbullying was 96.2%. The prevalence of cyberbullying among adolescence was 22.2% (95% CI: 18.89-26.93). 42% of Victims reported cyberbully event leading to stoppage in 78.6% of cases. Most of the victims reported to their parents followed by friends then cyber helpline or Police. Characteristics of perpetrators were males, below-average academic performance and social relations, from same batch, and had emotionally unstable personalities. Association of being a victim does not relate to their Age, gender, grade, or parent’s education but relate to their nationality (P < 0.001) and being younger siblings (P < 0.027). Association between event reporting and gender was not significant (P < 0.859). Association between worsening social relationships (teachers and parents) (P < 0.001), feeling neglected (P < 0.001), personality type (agreeableness and emotional instability) (P < 0.016) and being a Cyberbully victim was statistically significant. Association of depression and anxiety with being a cyberbully victim was statistically significant (P < 0.001) and directly proportional to the severity. Conclusion: High rate of awareness and Low prevalence of cyberbullying was found among adolescence. High risk of psychological problems was reported and a good social relationship (teachers and parents) was an important protective factor from it.

Abstract Background One of the most common congenital conditions detected globally, congenital heart diseases, and CT techniques provide a high-quality and thorough presentation of heart anatomy, thoracic vasculature, and extracardiac structures, and hence, it is becoming a more popular non-invasive diagnostic imaging method for congenital heart disease. The drawbacks with CT imaging are the radiation exposure from repeated scans is also rising, especially in young patients. The present study is aimed to evaluate the radiation dose in gated and non-gated cardiac CT for preoperative diagnosis of pediatric patients with congenital heart diseases. Results A total of 111 pediatric patients with mean age of 7.47 years were prospectively included in the study. The mean value of “Effective dose (E)” for gated CT at $$100\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 100 kV p was found to be $$4.71\;{\text{mSv}}$$ 4.71 mSv which is higher than mean “E” of $$3.95\;{\text{mSv}}$$ 3.95 mSv observed for gated CT at $$80\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 80 kV p . The average value of “E” for non-gated technique was observed less than that of gated technique at both $$100\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 100 kV p and $$80\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 80 kV p . The multiple regression analysis shows that “E” is significantly dependent on $${\text{DLP}}\left( {{\text{mGy}}\;{\text{cm}}} \right)$$ DLP mGy cm for both gated and non-gated techniques at 95% level of significance $$\left( {p < 0.05} \right)$$ p < 0.05 . The Student’s t-test verifies that the mean value of “E” for both the techniques at $$100\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 100 kV p and $$80\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 80 kV p are significantly different at 95% level of significance $$\left( {p < 0.05} \right)$$ p < 0.05 . Conclusions The effective dose received by pediatric patients is much higher when using ECG-gated acquisition with an average value of $$4.71\;{\text{mSv}}$$ 4.71 mSv and $$3.95\;{\text{mSv}}$$ 3.95 mSv at $$100\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 100 kV p , and at $$80\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 80 kV p respectively. Because low-voltage X-rays are more sensitive to high atomic number iodinated contrast media, the mean “E” for non-gated cardiac CT imaging at $$80\;{\text{kV}}_{{\text{p}}}$$ 80 kV p is $$2.26\;{\text{mSv}}$$ 2.26 mSv , and results in significant reduction of effective dose.

This article presents the notions of extended b-gauge space (U,Qφ;Ω)\left(U,{Q}_{\varphi ;\Omega }) and extended Jφ;Ω{{\mathcal{J}}}_{\varphi ;\Omega }-families of generalized extended pseudo-b-distances on UU. Furthermore, we look at these extended Jφ;Ω{{\mathcal{J}}}_{\varphi ;\Omega }-families on UU and define the extended Jφ;Ω{{\mathcal{J}}}_{\varphi ;\Omega }-sequential completeness. We also look into some fixed and periodic point theorems for set-valued mappings in the new space with a graph that does not meet the completeness condition of the space. Additionally, this article includes some examples to explain the corresponding results and highlights some important consequences of our obtained results.

Pod shattering is an undesirable process leading to loss of harvestable yields. In the present study, we sought to undertake the first comprehensive phenotyping in 254 bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes for pod shattering including various mechanistic aspects as well as assess natural variation in the germplasm set for 16 seed physical traits including shattering score. There was substantial variability in 16 pod physical traits in the material. Significant diversity of the material in respect of pod traits was indicated by the broad range and coefficient of variation (CV) values. Using Random Impact Assessment (RIA), we found substantial variability in pod shattering score in common bean genotypes indicating significant diversity. Shattering score had a mean value of 6.098 with a range of 1.07 to 9.13. Highest shattering score was recorded in WB-6, WB-20-247, and N-7 while the lowest value for shattering score was recorded in WB-1129 and WB-216. Shattering score was negatively correlated with pod thickness (r = -0.698) followed by ventral/dorsal length ratio (r = -0.468) and positively correlated with breadth/thickness ratio (r = 0.599) and string % (r = 0.590). The principal component analysis (PCA) concentrated 86.91% variability in the first five principal components, and the first two PCs accounted for 55.62% of the total variation.

Medical image analysis presents a significant problem in the field of image registration. Recently, medical image registration has been recognized as a helpful tool for medical professionals. Current state-of-the-art approaches solely focus on source image registration and lack quantitative measurement for object deviation in terms of loosening, subsidence and anteversion related to surgery. In this article, we have provided motion vectors for recognizing the object deviation, in addition to detecting and selecting the feature points. Firstly, the feature points will be detected using Hessian matrix determinants and octave and level sampling. Then the strongest feature points are selected which will be utilized for identifying the object deviation with respect to the reference image through motion vectors. The objective of this work is to combine image registration and temporal differencing to achieve independent motion detection. In comparison to state-of-the-art approaches, the proposed methodology achieves higher Information Ratio (IR), Mutual Information Ratio (MIR) and their lower bounds for image registration.

Biochar is a porous, high-surface-area, black carbon-rich product that offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option to replace conventional charcoal. However, its specific structure and limited biodegradability pose challenges for its widespread applications. Photocatalysis is suggested as an alternative approach to harness solar energy and transform it into solar fuels. Interestingly, nanomaterials-based photocatalysts with tailored energy band properties and non-toxic characteristics, high surface areas, enhanced stability, and tunable pore sizes, have gained attention for their potential in diverse applications. Therefore, existing research on biochar-based photocatalysis systems (BBPs) aims to address different environmental issues. Interestingly, BBPs offer benefits such as excellent electrical conductivity, versatile functional groups, large surface area, and multiple surface-active sites, promoting high charge mobility, electron reservoir, superior charge separation, and small bandgap. This review provides a comprehensive overview of BBPs developments, including synthesis methods and properties. The fusion of BBPs is used in CO2 conversion, photocatalytic H2 generation, CO2 reduction, pollutants, dyes, and pharmaceutical degradation. Although the intermarriage of BBPs has potential benefits, their effectiveness may be compromised when modified photocatalysts are incorporated, which may negatively influence carrier generation efficiency and overall performance. Therefore, there is empty room for further research on their physical properties, effectiveness, long-term stability, and reusability of BBPs.

AbstractStevia rebaudiana is zero-calorie bio-sweetener and furnishes the best nutrition out of it. The study was conducted to characterize the extracts from water, ethanol, methanol, and supercritical fluid for Steviosides/SGs. The compounds found in appreciable quantities were Stevioside (665.34 ± 27.27 to 1107.95 ± 50.96 mg/kg), Rebaudioside A (383.38 ± 17.25 to 792.15 ± 38.02 mg/kg) and Steviol (357.26 ± 14.64 to 485.25 ± 22.32 mg/kg). Stevia cookies were prepared by replacing sucrose with Stevia powder (10%), water extract (1%), and supercritical extract (3%). Bio-efficacy rats modeling trials were done to check their impact against hyperglycemia and hypercholesterolemia. Blood glucose level was reduced from 4.54 to 7.00%, insulin level was increased by 4.27 to 6.13% due to diets enriched with stevia powder and extracts as compared to the control. In hypercholesterolemic rats, up surged cholesterol level was reported to reduce as a function of Stevia powder and extracts from 1.28 to 5.47%. Substantial increment in HDL, and reduction in LDL and triglycerides was recorded in Stevia leaves powder and extracts treatments by 2.79–6.66%, 2.68–4.16%, and 3.12–5.36, respectively. Stevia cookies administration in rats showed non-significant impact on the liver, renal, and hepatological parameters, while the safety of cookies was improved. Therefore, it can be concluded from the outcomes that in addition to sweetness, Stevia health health-beneficial effects make it suitable to be included in cookies.

Micro and nanoplastics (MNPs) are ubiquitous in the environment and have been detected in most ecosystems, including remote regions. The class of contaminants under the MNP umbrella is quite broad and encompasses variable polymer types, shapes, and sizes. Fibers are the most frequently detected in the environment, followed by fragments, but still represent only a small fraction of laboratory studies. Many toxicity studies have been done using polystyrene microbeads which represent neither the polymer nor shape most present in the environment. Additionally, most of these studies are done using virgin particles when the majority of MNP pollution is from secondary microplastics which have weathered and broken down over time. To address these data gaps, we exposed the model fish Inland Silverside, Menidia beryllina, for 21-days to micro and nano cryo-milled tire particles, micro and nano polylactic acid, and polyester microfibers, both weathered and unweathered treatments were tested. We evaluated the impacts of these particles on growth, behavior, and gene expression to compare the relative toxicities of the different particles. We found that overall, the nanoparticles and weathered fibers had the greatest effect on behavior and gene expression. Gene ontology analysis revealed strong evidence suggesting MNP exposure affected pathways involved in muscle contraction and function. Unweathered microfibers decreased growth which may be a result of food dilution. Our results also suggest that under weathering conditions polyester microfibers breakdown into smaller sizes and induce toxicity similar to nanoparticles. This study highlights the variable effects of MNPs in fish and emphasizes the importance of considering particle shape and size in toxicity studies.

In recent years, green nanomaterials are increasingly being utilized in horticulture and agriculture due to their potential to transform plant development, improve crop yield, combat diseases, and pest management, among other applications. Significantly, green nanomaterials enhance nutrient delivery by improving stability, uptake, and solubility efficiency. Utilizing non-toxic precursors, waste reduction strategies, renewable resources, and energy-efficient processes, they offer sustainable technology advancement. Moreover, tomatoes, the largest domestic and industrial crop, yield around 200 million tons globally. They are beneficial for blood cleansing, gastrointestinal secretion, and nutrient reduction. However, they are susceptible to diseases like early blight, septoria leaf spot, late blight, and buckeye rot. In this regard, green nanomaterials have the potential to revolutionize agriculture by improving disease management, detecting diseases quickly, enhancing nutrient uptake, safely delivering agrochemicals, and reducing pesticide dosage. So, impressed by this, in this current review paper, we explored the use of green nanomaterials for tomato growth, and development and investigated their unique features, utilization, challenges, and future prospects. Ultimately, this review will open a new research gateway for plant-based nanomaterial and their utilization in various disciplines particularly for crop protection, growth, and soil health.

Substitutional effects of Mg2⁺ proceeding the structural, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer characteristics of Sr₁₋ₓMgₓMn₂Fe₄O₁₁ R-type hexaferrite were systematically investigated for different concentrations (x = 0, 0.25, 0.75, 1.0). Sol-gel technique was adopted to fabricate the material. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed samples exhibit a single-phase structure of MgMn₂Fe₄O₁₁. Lattice parameters (a and c) and V (unit cell volume) decreased with increasing Mg concentration. Also, a rise in dislocation density was observed, while crystallite size varied. FTIR spectra further corroborated the single-phase hexagonal structure of the manufactured samples. The electric polarization (P-E) loops demonstrated that saturation and Pr remanent polarization increased with Mg substitution, while lossy behavior decreased. Magnetic measurements revealed that substituting Mg2⁺ directed toward an initial escalation in saturation magnetization, retentivity, and coercivity, followed by a subsequent decline. Furthermore, VSM analysis indicated that all samples exhibited a combination of ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behavior.

Indian MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector, an invaluable employment generator with a cluster of more than 63 million enterprises, is deeply dented by the noxious coronavirus. The second most significant sector of the Indian economy regarding employment creation is in jeopardy after the Covid-19. The sudden abject degradation of performance and eventual threat to the existence of MSME not only captivates the attention but also sets in disquietude in mind to fathom the inherent causes of this fragility and excogitate the ways and means of saving them. Against this background, proper diagnosis of the effect of Covid-19 on MSMEs is inevitable. The analysis is based on Qualitative as well as secondary data. Qualitative data has been collected through semi-structured interviews with 48 MSME stakeholders selected by Judgmental Sampling. The research finds significant challenges before MSME that must be tackled to salvage the industry from an imminent existential threat. The paper recommends the adoption of Industry-4.0 and the closure of gaps identified in the paper to give saving breath to the financially beleaguered and faltering sector. During the last few years, Covid-19 has grabbed literature positioning galore, but they are not specific to Indian MSME. This study is an attempt to gauge the obstacles, measures and gaps faced by Indian MSME post COVID scenario.

Background: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific multisystem progressive disorder, characterized by a new onset of hypertension and proteinuria or significant end-organ dysfunction without proteinuria typically after 20 weeks. If not controlled, it can lead to adverse fetal outcomes. Aspirin a COX inhibitor can delay or prevent the onset of PE. Its effectiveness and safety in relatively higher doses (150mg) need to be investigated in the local population. To compare the two different low doses of aspirin 75mg vs. high dose of 150mg in moderate and high-risk women for prevention of preeclampsia and its associated complications. Methods: A Parallel arm randomized control open-label study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Ziauddin University Hospital Kemari, Karachi. A sample of 156 women, age >18 years, with moderate and high risk of Preeclampsia was selected consecutively. Random allocation of 78 women each was done to group A (75mg) versus group B (150 gm) of Aspirin. Patients with multifetal gestation, major fetal anomaly, thrombocytopenia, peptic ulcer, or bleeding disorder were excluded from the study. Ethical approval was sought from the ERC of Ziauddin University. Descriptive and analytical results expressed through SPSS software. Results: Both groups were comparable in terms of their basic demographics. The effectiveness of Aspirin 75mg was 53% compared to 70% of Aspirin 150mg in the prevention of pre-eclampsia among high-risk women. With 75mg Aspirin the incidence of PE decreased slightly with increasing age while with 150mg, it increased (P values = 0.141, 0.111 & 0.290 respectively. Higher rates of placental abruption (54.3%) accompanied by preeclampsia were seen in group A as compared to (21.7%; p value = 0.016) in group B. The incidence of pre-term delivery, miscarriage, NICU admission & superimposed eclampsia were higher with low-dose aspirin (P values = 0.779, NA, 0.210, 0.592, NA & 0.772 respectively). Conclusion: Aspirin 150mg in moderate and high-risk pregnancies starting at 11-14 weeks is more effective and safer than 75mg Aspirin reducing the incidence of Preeclampsia.

The present research study explores the drinking water quality of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to identify the potent dissolved contaminants and carry out a health risk assessment as the study area houses more than 3 million people. A total of 95 drinking water samples were collected from the union councils of the selected study area and analyzed for 12 physicochemical water quality indicators. The collected datasets were interpreted using general statistics, principal component analysis and spatial analysis for knowing the variations among the collected samples. The results revealed that overall 51.57% of the drinking water samples were unsatisfactory for human consumption. The rate of physicochemical contamination was 87.27% in the rural and unauthorized housing societies. Arsenic (As) and lead (Pb) were the potent contaminants in the drinking water samples. The health risk assessment uncovered that 31.57 and 10.45% of samples had a hazard quotient (HQ) >1 for arsenic and lead, respectively. Collectively, 41 drinking water sources were identified as potential health risk sources for the residents. HIGHLIGHTS Planned sampling from 95 locations was carried out from in-use drinking water sources from the capital city Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Pakistan.; Assessment of health risks for arsenic and lead was carried out using the standard guidelines of USEPA.; The combination of spatial analysis with water quality indicators provides disseminated research findings to the general public along with scientific researchers.;

Background Oral malignancy that presents at a locally advanced stage needs complex surgical resections in which the maxillary cavity is usually left open. The constant maxillary secretions lead to problems like poor healing, fistula formation, and flap necrosis, causing longer hospital stays, delayed adjuvant therapy, and additional surgeries. Several methods have been tried to ameliorate this, each faced with its own difficulties. This study describes the use of chimeric free anterolateral thigh (ALT) with vastus lateralis (VL) muscle to tackle this problem.

Recently, there have been significant developments in advanced porous materials, especially with types like porous organic polymers, metal-organic frameworks, hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, zeolites, and porous aromatic frameworks. These materials are gaining attention for their remarkable characteristics, including high surface area, adjustable pore sizes, strong adsorption capacity, stability under various conditions, effective catalytic properties, and good electrical conductivity, making them useful across a range of applications. This review article highlights the various types, structures, and synthesis methods of POPs, MOFs, HOFs, COFs, zeolites, and PAFs, in addition to their important applications such as hydrogen generation, gas sensing, CO2 conversion, pollutant degradation, CO2 capture, hydrogen evolution/oxygen evolution reactions, and batteries. Lastly, the future perspective of APMs along with the necessary steps to be taken and embraced in order to make them usable for long-term and large-scale applications will help in opening new innovative gateways to the research field.

Abstract Lead (Pb) is toxic to the development and growth of rice plants. Nanoparticles (NPs) have been considered one of the efficient remediation techniques to mitigate Pb stress in plants. Therefore, a study was carried out to examine the underlying mechanism of iron (Fe) and silicon (Si) nanoparticle-induced Pb toxicity alleviation in rice seedlings. Si–NPs (2.5 mM) and Fe-NPs (25 mg L−1) were applied alone and in combination to rice plants grown without (control; no Pb stress) and with (100 µM) Pb concentration. Our results revealed that Pb toxicity severely affected all rice growth-related traits, such as inhibited root fresh weight (42%), shoot length (24%), and chlorophyll b contents (26%). Moreover, a substantial amount of Pb was translocated to the above-ground parts of plants, which caused a disturbance in the antioxidative enzyme activities. However, the synergetic use of Fe- and Si–NPs reduced the Pb contents in the upper part of plants by 27%. It reduced the lethal impact of Pb on roots and shoots growth parameters by increasing shoot length (40%), shoot fresh weight (48%), and roots fresh weight (31%). Both Si and Fe–NPs synergistic application significantly elevated superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH) concentrations by 114%, 186%, 135%, and 151%, respectively, compared to plants subjected to Pb stress alone. The toxicity of Pb resulted in several cellular abnormalities and altered the expression levels of metal transporters and antioxidant genes. We conclude that the synergistic application of Si and Fe-NPs can be deemed favorable, environmentally promising, and cost-effective for reducing Pb deadliness in rice crops and reclaiming Pb-polluted soils.

The article empirically examines the impact of microfinance on poverty alleviation in the SAARC region. The study uses panel data from 2000 to 2019 for five selected SAARC countries. The proxy variable for microfinance is gross loan portfolio per capita, and poverty is measured by household consumption expenditure per capita. The other variables are the percentage of active borrowers to the total population, government expenditure on education as a percentage of GDP, and credit to the private sector by banks as a percentage of GDP. The panel data regression model is used to explain the relationship among the variables. Hausman Test suggests the use of the Fixed Effect Model. The results of the Fixed Effect Model reveal that by controlling other variables, the countries having higher Gross Loan Portfolio per capita have higher household consumption expenditure per capita and thus have lower incidences of poverty. R2 value concludes that the concerned variables explain 94.1% of variations in household consumption expenditure per capita.

Abstract In recent years, alcohol addiction has become a major public health concern and a global threat due to its potential negative health and social impacts. Beyond the health consequences, the detrimental consumption of alcohol results in substantial social and economic burdens on both individuals and society as a whole. Therefore, a proper understanding and effective control of the spread of alcohol addictive behavior has become an appealing global issue to be solved. In this study, we develop a new mathematical model of alcohol addiction with treatment class. We analyze the dynamics of the alcohol addiction model for the first time using advanced operators known as fractal–fractional operators, which incorporate two distinct fractal and fractional orders with the well-known Caputo derivative based on power law kernels. The existence and uniqueness of the newly developed fractal–fractional alcohol addiction model are shown using the Picard–Lindelöf and fixed point theories. Initially, a comprehensive qualitative analysis of the alcohol addiction fractional model is presented. The possible equilibria of the model and the threshold parameter called the reproduction number are evaluated theoretically and numerically. The boundedness and biologically feasible region for the model are derived. To assess the stability of the proposed model, the Ulam–Hyers coupled with the Ulam–Hyers–Rassias stability criteria are employed. Moreover, utilizing effecting numerical schemes, the models are solved numerically and a detailed simulation and discussion are presented. The model global dynamics are shown graphically for various values of fractional and fractal dimensions. The present study aims to provide valuable insights for the understanding the dynamics and control of alcohol addiction within a community.

Abstract Triazoles, nitrogen-containing heterocycles, have gained attention for their applications in medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, agrochemicals, and material sciences. In the current study, we synthesized novel derivatives of N-substituted 2-((5-(3-bromophenyl)-4-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)thio)-N-phenylpropanamide and conducted a comprehensive investigation using density functional theory (DFT). These novel structural hybrids of 1,2,4-triazole were synthesized through the multi-step chemical modifications of 3-bromobenzoic acid (1). Initially, compound 1 was converted into its methyl-3-bromobenzoate (2) which was then transformed into 3-bromobenzohydrazide (3). The final step involved the cyclization of compound 3, producing its 1,2,4-triazole derivative (4). This intermediate was then coupled with different electrophiles, resulting in the formation of the final derivatives (7a–7c). Additionally, the characterization of these triazole-based compounds (7a, 7b, and 7c) were carried out using techniques such as IR, HNMR, and UV–visible spectroscopy to understand their structural and spectroscopic properties. The DFT study utilized M06/6-311G(d,p) functional to investigate geometrical parameters, HOMO–LUMO energies, natural bond orbital analyses, transition density matrix (TDM), density of states, and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. The FMO analysis revealed that compound 7c exhibited the lowest band gap value (4.618 eV). Notably, compound 7c exhibited significant linear polarizability (4.195 > × 10–23) and first and second hyperpolarizabilities (6.317 > × 10–30, 4.314 × 10–35), signifying its potential for nonlinear optical applications. These NLO characteristics imply that each of our compounds, especially 7c, plays a crucial part in fabricating materials showing promising NLO properties for optoelectronic applications.

The construction industry is increasingly focused on sustainability to reduce environmental impact. Researchers are actively exploring alternative materials to replace clinker-based binders. This study specifically investigates the use of eggshell powder (ESP) as a sustainable substitute in construction. Portland slag cement (PSC) is partially replaced by ESP in concrete production for this purpose. To assess the effectiveness of ESP in enhancing binder properties, the study analyses experimental data for compressive and flexural strength. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) modelling is employed for this analysis to predict material performance. The model undergoes training and testing using input data to ensure accuracy and reliability. The success of the study is demonstrated by high R2 values, with 0,9915 for compressive strength and 0,9921 for flexural strength, indicating that the ANN model closely matches actual material performance. Additionally, error analysis confirms the model's remarkable accuracy in predicting real-world results. Furthermore, the research highlights the exceptional potential of the developed ANN model, which can effectively predict the mechanical properties of construction materials containing ESP.

Nowadays, tomato, a commercially important crop, is increasingly cultivated in a soilless cultivation system to counteract climate change. Normally, this system uses cocopeat as a substrate, but its high cost and environmental impact have led to growing interest in alternatives like biochar (BC). In addition, biostimulants, such as wood distillate (WD), a pyrolysis by-product, are increasingly being used to improve fruit yield and quality. BC was used to partially replace (2% and 5%) cocopeat in growth bags for soilless tomato cultivation. Moreover, WD (3 mL/L) was distributed in the substrate every two weeks. The effect of BC and WD on tomato plant growth, fruit quality, and substrate microbial community was investigated. The integration of BC and WD into a soilless growing system for tomato cultivation can improve the fruit quality and influence the microbial activity of the substrate. Replacing part of the cocopeat in the substrate with BC and using an agri-waste-derived biostimulant represent a step forward in making agriculture more sustainable.

Aims The use of mentorship schemes may be a pragmatic approach to bridging the differential attainment gap for psychiatry trainees. There is robust evidence that mentorship improves outcomes for core trainees across several domains including exam pass rates, ARCP outcomes and clinical practice. A survey was developed to elicit core psychiatry trainees’ perspective about the need for mentoring as well as their expectations. This was an initial survey done as part of a Quality Improvement project focused on mentoring scheme for psychiatry core trainees in the East Midlands region. Methods A 16-item self-rated questionnaire was designed to elicit information relating to respondents’ demographics, professional qualifications, UK experience prior to commencement of training, perception of mentorship as an unmet need as well as expected focus of potential mentoring relationship. These were administered to psychiatry core trainees in the East Midlands region. The data was collected in February 2023. Results About a quarter of the core trainees (n = 21) participated in the survey. Majority (47.6%) of the respondents had Black or Black British ethnic origin and 11 (52.4%) were in their second year of training. Although 13 (61.9%) had a non-UK primary medical qualification, majority had some months of UK experience before commencement of training (median = 1.4 years). Twenty (95%) of the respondents identified mentoring as an unmet need and they highlighted the areas of need. Conclusion This survey showed a high level of acceptance of the mentoring scheme among the trainees. Their expectations and suggestions helped further the design of the mentoring scheme which is currently ongoing.

The development of baby spinach as a vehicle to transfer Lactobacillus plantarum 299v (LP299v) and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) is quite promising and may address the research regarding the absence of suitable whole vegetable carriers in the current probiotic food industry. The objective of this study was to observe the effects of food storage and preparation on Lp299v and LGG viability in baby spinach before consumption. The strains were sequentially introduced into baby spinach by dipping leaves in probiotic suspension to achieve an attachment of approximately 8 log 10 CFU/g spinach. Then, probiotic viability was tested using serial dilutions. Furthermore, data processing and ANOVA during 7-day storage, with or without salad dressing, were performed using Tukey’s test. In the 7-day storage trials, LP299v and LGG viability on baby spinach declined after 7 days with significant differences by 0.19 and 0.39 log10 CFU/g, respectively. In salad dressing trials, LP299v (p value = 0.79 > 0.05) and LGG (p value = 0.58 > 0.05) survivability on baby spinach after the addition of salad dressing fluctuated approximately 8.27 and 8.40 log10 CFU/g with no statistically significant difference, respectively. LP299V and LGG viability on baby spinach in both trials was greater than 8 log10 CFU/g and close to FDA requirements, showing that food storage and preparation do not affect their viability and can be used commercially.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) is the causative agent of Tuberculosis, one of the deadliest infectious diseases. According to the WHO Report 2023, in 2022, approximately 10.6 million people got infected with TB, and 1.6 million died. It has multiple antibiotics for treatment, but the major drawback of anti-tuberculosis therapy (ATT) is, its prolonged treatment duration. The major contributors to the lengthy treatment period are mycobacterial persistence and drug tolerance. Persistent M. tb is phenotypically drug tolerant and metabolically slow down which makes it difficult to be eliminated during ATT. These persisting bacteria are a huge reservoir of impending disease, waiting to get reactivated upon the onset of an immune compromising state. Directly Observed Treatment Short-course, although effective against replicating bacteria; fails to eliminate the drug-tolerant persisters making TB still the second-highest killer globally. There are different mechanisms for the development of drug-tolerant mycobacterial populations being investigated. Recently, the role of biofilms in the survival and host-evasion mechanism of persisters has come to light. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the mechanism of adaptation, survival and attainment of drug tolerance by persisting M. tb-populations, in order to design better immune responses and therapeutics for the effective elimination of these bacteria by reducing the duration of treatment and also circumvent the generation of drug-resistance to achieve the goal of global eradication of TB. This review summarizes the drug-tolerance mechanism and biofilms’ role in providing a niche to dormant-M.tb. We also discuss methods of targeting biofilms to achieve sterile eradication of the mycobacteria and prevent its reactivation by achieving adequate immune responses.

Ameloblastoma is the second most common odontogenic neoplasm and is locally aggressive. Various treatment approaches exist, with resection involving safe margins associated with the lowest recurrence rates. However, ameloblastoma still has a propensity for delayed recurrences, necessitating lifelong follow-up for patients. Recurrences usually develop at the primary site of the tumor but have also been reported in reconstructive bone grafts. We present a unique case of a very unusual, delayed recurrence of mandibular ameloblastoma in the soft tissues of the neck, 16 years after the primary surgery. The recurrence presented as a large cystic swelling in the neck with a solid component, posing a diagnostic challenge for the team. The final histopathological examination after excision under general anesthesia confirmed it to be ameloblastoma.

Background: Musculoskeletal discomfort not related by a syndrome is very communal in juvenile and puberty getting lifetime prevalence as great as 40%. It affects student’s quality of life and their productivity in education. So, the main objective of current study was to access musculoskeletal pain among undergraduate physical therapy students. Methods: A Descriptive type of cross sectional survey was conducted at Lahore Medical and Dental College (LM&DC) for duration of almost six months from April 2018 to October 2018. Sample size recruited was 321 physical therapy students and they were included according to inclusion exclusion criteria. Assessment of Musculoskeletal pain was done using Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire. An analysis was done using SPSS 21. Results: The findings showed that musculoskeletal pain among students was most commonly prevalent in lower back region constituting 65.4% (n = 210) followed by upper back 53.9% (n = 173) and neck region 48.6% (n = 156). Conclusion: Musculoskeletal pain was highly prevalent among medical students and most commonly found in lower back region.

Background: Motor control and posture disorders are responsible in the development of cerebral palsy (CP). Spastic CP, the most common type of CP is associated with postural asymmetries resulting in functional limitation among children and compromising their quality of life. Therefore, the study aimed to describe the severity of postural asymmetries among special school going children with spastic cerebral palsy in correlation with Gross Motor Function Classification System levels (GMFCS). Methods: Thirty-four subjects from Lahore who were special school going children diagnosed with spastic CP for more than 6 months and less than 1 year were recruited. Children with uncontrolled seizures, hearing and visual impairment, surgery scheduled and other types of cerebral palsy were excluded. Background: COVID-19 is primarily known as a respiratory illness; however, many patients present to hospital without respiratory symptoms. The association between non-respiratory presentations of COVID-19 and outcomes remains unclear. We investigated risk factors and clinical outcomes in patients with no respiratory symptoms (NRS) and respiratory symptoms (RS) at hospital admission. Methods: This study describes clinical features, physiological parameters, and outcomes of hospitalised COVID-19 patients, stratified by the presence or absence of respiratory symptoms at hospital admission. RS patients had one or more of: cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose or wheezing; while NRS patients did not. Results: Of 178,640 patients in the study, 86.4 % presented with RS, while 13.6 % had NRS. NRS patients were older (median age: NRS: 74 vs RS: 65) and less likely to be admitted to the ICU (NRS: 36.7 % vs RS: 37.5 %). NRS patients had a higher crude in-hospital case-fatality ratio (NRS 41.1 % vs. RS 32.0 %), but a lower risk of death after adjusting for confounders (HR 0.88 [0.83–0.93]). Conclusion: Approximately one in seven COVID-19 patients presented at hospital admission without respiratory symptoms. These patients were older, had lower ICU admission rates, and had a lower risk of in-hospital mortality after adjusting for confounders.

Natural product synthesis is an important area of chemical study having various prospects for medicinal, industrial, and agricultural industry. Grignard reaction was developed as a flexible and necessary tool for the production of complex organic compounds in synthetic procedures. Additionally, the synthetic flexibility of the Grignard reaction facilitates its usage in the construction of more complicated ring frameworks and stereoselective transformations. It has been substantially applied in natural product synthesis, demonstrating its effectiveness in the generation of crucial C-C, C-X bonds and the development of intricate molecular structures. Use of Grignard reaction has been significantly studied towards the synthesis of biologically active natural products such as terpenoids, polyketides, alkaloids and amino acids. This review outlines the numerous instances where Grignard reagents have been exploited in the synthesis of notable natural products since past two years.

Encouraging employees to share their creative ideas has been widely acknowledged as a crucial factor in enhancing organizational effectiveness. This research examines whether employees' idea sharing depends on leadership behavior and how organizational identification and culture explain the variations in creative ideas sharing among employees. Building on social learning theory, this research postulates a positive relationship between responsible leadership and creative idea sharing directly and indirectly by the development of organizational identification; additionally, a conditional indirect effect was also proposed for this research data was collected from the nurses, medical support staffs, heads of departments, and administrative personnel from primary and secondary health care units in South-Punjab. Data from 387 subordinates and their respective 67 supervisors was collected and analyzed with partial least squares (PLS) for moderated mediation, direct effects, indirect effects, conditional indirect effects, and CFA. The results indicated that responsible leadership is positively and significantly related to employees' creative idea-sharing directly and indirectly through the mediation of organizational identification. Organizational culture positively moderated the relationship between responsible leadership and creative idea sharing and between responsible leadership and organizational identification. Responsible leadership was positively related to organizational identification and creative idea sharing only when the organization has a highly supportive culture and negative otherwise. The relevant sections also discuss research contributions, limitations, and future research directions.

The aim present work was to examined the alone and combined impact of press mud compost and fuller earth at 0.5 and 1 % dosage on immobilization of Pb and Cd in Sharafi Goth and Malir polluted soils and reduce their uptake by sorghum plant. The results revealed that sorghum dry biomass yield was observed by 41.47 and 58.8 % with press mud compost (PMC) 1 % + fuller earth (FE) 1 % in Sharafi Goth soil and in Malir polluted soils than control. The immobilization of Pb was observed by 88.0 and 93.52 % with PMC 1 % + FE 1 %, and Cd was immobilized by 90.36 with PMC 1 % + FE 1 % and 78.0 % with PMC 0.5 % + FE 0.5 % in Sharafi Goth and Malir polluted soils than control. The uptake of Pb and Cd in shoot and root by sorghum was reduced both soils with application additives. The studied amendments increased the soil chemical properties such as electrical conductivity (EC), pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic matter (O.M) and CaCO3 than control soil. The results of redundancy analysis showed that soil O.M had positive correlation with plant dry biomass, whereas EC, pH, CEC, O.M and CaCO3 showed negative correlation with Pb and Cd in soil and Pb and Cd in plant soot and root biomass. The results of present study indicated that press mud compost alone and in combined form shown positive impact on plant growth, immobilize Pb and Cd in both soils and reduced their uptake by sorghum plant. Future long-term field experiments must be carried out in multi-metals polluted soils and cultivate different genotypes.

Erythrina variegata is a potent medicinal plant belonging to the family Fabaceae. Present investigation was carried out the preliminary phytochemical screening of the Erythrina variegata to evaluate the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, tannins, steroids/triterpenoids, quinones, saponins by using different parts of the plant extracts such as leaf, stem and root in five different solvent systems (methanol, butanol, chloroform, ethanol, and distilled water) by cold maceration technique. According to our evaluation the high intensity of secondary metabolites like alkaloids and glycosides were strongly observed in leaf butanol extract and complete absence of saponins except in aqueous solvent was seen. In stem extracts butanol and chloroform were more efficient solvents for alkaloids, glycosides, tannins and moderate for phenols and steroids. The results of root extract revealed the strong presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides inbutanol extract. Due to its efficiency in butanolic extract Erythrina variegata was used to test anti-bacterial activity. Which showed the highest zone of inhibition against Bacillus subtilis in leaf and root extract whereas in stem butanolic extract highest zone of inhibition was against Proteus vulgaris.

Abstract Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a serious complication of otherwise curative allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplants. Chronic GVHD induces pathological changes in peripheral organs as well as the brain and is a frequent cause of late morbidity and death after bone-marrow transplantation. In the periphery, bone-marrow-derived macrophages are key drivers of pathology, but recent evidence suggests that these cells also infiltrate into cGVHD-affected brains. Microglia are also persistently activated in the cGVHD-affected brain. To understand the involvement of these myeloid cell populations in the development and/or progression of cGVHD pathology, we here utilized the blood–brain-barrier permeable colony stimulating factor-1 receptor (CSF-1R) inhibitor PLX3397 (pexidartinib) at varying doses to pharmacologically deplete both cell types. We demonstrate that PLX3397 treatment during the development of cGVHD (i.e., 30 days post-transplant) improves disease symptoms, reducing both the clinical scores and histopathology of multiple cGVHD target organs, including the sequestration of T cells in cGVHD-affected skin tissue. Cognitive impairments associated with cGVHD and neuroinflammation were also attenuated by PLX3397 treatment. PLX3397 treatment prior to the onset of cGVHD (i.e., immediately post-transplant) did not change in clinical scores or histopathology. Overall, our data demonstrate significant benefits of using PLX3397 for the treatment of cGVHD and associated organ pathologies in both the periphery and brain, highlighting the therapeutic potential of pexidartinib for this condition.

Background We describe our experience with use of free thoracodorsal artery perforator (TDAP) flap for head and neck (H&N) cancer reconstruction, with respect to the patient and disease profile, suitable defect characteristics, the reconstructive technique, and complications.

Trans fatty acids are specific unsaturated fats found in processed foods that undergo hydrogenation, leading to hepatic disorders such as metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and conditions like CVD and CKD. The effects of different food samples containing trans fatty acids (elaidic and oleic acid) on the liver, heart, and kidney through antioxidant enzyme activity were investigated in animal models. Liver function tests (ALT, ALP, AST, and LDH), heart biomarker levels (CPK, TC, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides), and kidney biomarker levels (serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and serum uric acid) were examined in serum of rabbits and the histopathology of liver tissues. Results showed that these biomarkers were more elevated in the Mujahid Ghee group than in the normal control, oleic acid, and Kausar Ghee groups. The concentration of antioxidant markers such as peroxidase, glutathione, catalase, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and superoxide dismutase were lower in the Mujahid Ghee group. HPLC showed that Mujahid Ghee had the highest quantified value of elaidic acid among all selected samples. Overall, this study demonstrated that elaidic acid in its purest form aggravated MAFLD in rabbit livers and provoked CVK and CVD.

Reduced reliance on synthetic chemical fertilizers necessarily requires using renewable biomaterial-derived soil organic amendments (SOAs) in agriculture for sustained retention of nutrients through improvement in the soil organic matter (SOM). SOM replenishment through SOAs derived from wasted materials could help in its valorization by furthering the sustainability prospects of agronomic crop production systems. In the current study, compost (CP) and biochar (BC) were derived as SOAs from combustible and compostable fractions of municipal solid waste (MSW) for their potential valorization by adding SOAs as potential sustainable sources of nutrients as a replacement of chemical fertilizers (CF) for sunflower crops cultivated in potted soils. The experimental design included quadruplicated soil application of MSW-derived BC and CP in discrete and combined forms, each in three doses (% w:w), viz., low (L), medium (M), and high (H), i.e., BC-L, BC-M, BC-H; CP-L, CP-M, CP-H; and BC + CP-L, BC + CP-M, BC-CP-H. The results showed that, compared to the control (soil only), the sunflower growth and harvestable yield were significantly greater in BC + CF with a medium dose and were comparable to the growth and yield obtained in soils with CF. Sunflower growth in the discrete SOAs remained less than in the combined SOAs (BC + CP) and was attributed to the comprehensive soil health improvement rendered by the applied SOAs. The soil health improvement factors included SOM, CEC, and concentrations of total and available NPK. The dose-effect comparison of the SOAs showed highly variable trends, i.e., the sunflower growth did not correspond with the increase in dose of the SOAs. It is concluded that the combined application of BC + CP derived from MSW components at a medium dose could act as a potential alternative to CF. The developed approach resulted in MSW valorization, which improved soil health and yielded a better sunflower crop.

Abstract Background Rape myths may harm those who have been sexually assaulted, according to the past literature. This study looked at the associations between grandiose narcissism, psychopathic characteristics, and rape myth acceptance and attitudes towards rape victims in Pakistan. The issue of sexual violence against women and how specific personality characteristics, such as psychopathy, grandiose narcissism, and rape-supporting ideas, may lead to unfavourable views towards sexual assault victims are still being debated. In affluent nations, there has been substantial study on the psychological aspects that influence attitudes towards rape victims, but information on developing nations like Pakistan is lacking. Method The study used a cross-sectional methodology with a purposive sample of 430 individuals, ranging in age from 18 to 68. The appropriate sample size was determined using a G*Power analysis. In order to analyse the data, SPSS 21.0 was used. Stepwise regression, MANOVA, and moderated mediation analysis were all used. Results All variables showed acceptable levels of Cronbach’s alpha reliability. Rape myth acceptance was significantly associated with attitudes towards rape, primary and secondary psychopathy, and grandiose narcissism. Rape myth acceptance, primary psychopathy, and grandiose narcissism significantly predicted attitudes towards rape victims. Moreover, grandiose narcissism showed a conditional indirect effect through primary psychopathy on the relationship between rape myth acceptance and attitudes towards rape victims, according to the results, which showed that rape myth acceptance, primary psychopathy, and those attitudes all had significant effects on attitudes towards rape victims. Conclusions In conclusion, it has been assessed that unfavourable views towards victims of sexual assault in Pakistan were substantially correlated with high levels of rape myth acceptance, primary psychopathy, and grandiose narcissism. Furthermore, the study discovered that these variables strongly impacted views towards rape victims. Additionally, rape myth acceptance, levels of primary psychopathy, and attitudes towards rape victims all showed significant gender differences. Moreover, grandiose narcissism had a significant conditional effect on the association between rape myth acceptance and attitudes towards rape victims via the mediation of primary psychopathy. Secondary psychopathy did not play a role in this predictive relationship. Clinical impact statement The study’s findings highlighted the widespread prevalence of rape myths, the importance of primary psychopathy and grandiose narcissism, and their predictive value in highlighting peoples’ attitudes and beliefs regarding sexual assault victims. The study also emphasizes the influence that grandiose narcissism and psychopathic qualities have on the predicted relationship between rape myths and attitudes towards sexual assault victims. The findings have significant policy implications since rape victims in Pakistan frequently bear a great deal of responsibility and receive little legal assistance. This study can assist in guiding initiatives to solve these problems and enhance the assistance provided to rape victims.

Objective: To compare the mean blood loss in women administered pre-operative prophylactic tranexamic acid versus control group undergoing elective lower segment caesarean section. Study Design: It was an experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Study was carried out at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad from 9 Mar 2021 to 8 Sep 2021. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 patients were selected who were presented for elective cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia. Women were equally divided into two groups A & B with 50 patients in each group. Patients in group A were preoperatively given 1gm of tranexamic acid intravenously. Group B did not receive tranexamic acid. Immediately after delivery of neonate both groups received 10 units of oxytocin. All abdominal sponges, gauzes, pads were weighed before surgery and postoperatively and blood from suction container also measured in ml. Postoperatively per vaginal bleeding up to 24 hours were measured by total number of pads used, weighed for dry and wet weight and blood loss measured in ml. Total blood loss was measured. Data analysis was performed through SPSS version 22. Results: The mean age for Group A and Group B was 29.9years±6.51SD and 28.7years ±5.13SD respectively. The mean age for the total study subjects was 29.3 ±5.9SD. The mean and standard deviation for blood loss after elective lower segment caesarean section in Group A was 576.6ml± 91.59SD and in Group B it was 836.6ml±91.59SD respectively with 31 %reduction in blood loss in group A. It is clear from the results that blood loss was significant in both the groups with p-value=0.001. Conclusion: The blood loss is significantly reduced in women undergoing elective lower segment caesarean section by administering pre-operative prophylactic tranexamic acid.
