This study aimed to fill this gap by conducting a two-wave longitudinal design.Participants and Methods: Six hundred and ninety-nine first-year undergraduates voluntarily completed two rounds of questionnaire surveys assessing problematic online video watching, boredom proneness and loneliness with an interval of 4 months. To test the research hypotheses, cross-lagged panel models were performed using AMOS 24.0.Results: Our results revealed the that (1) Boredom proneness and problematic online video watching were mutually influenced. (2) Loneliness at T1 positively predicted the level of problematic online video watching at T2 but not vice versa. (3) Boredom proneness mediated the link between loneliness and problematic online video watching. (4) Chinese first-year undergraduates’ levels of problematic online video watching and boredom proneness significantly increased during their educational transition period from high school to university.Conclusion: The present study enhances our understanding of the dynamic relationships between problematic online video watching, boredom proneness and loneliness, highlighting the targeted prevention and interventions for first-year undergraduates.Keywords: problematic online video watching, boredom proneness, loneliness, cross-lagged panel model

This study investigated the relationship between perceived stress and college students’ insomnia symptoms, as well as the chain mediating roles of fear of missing out and mobile phone dependence, and the moderating roles of environmental sensitivity.Methods: In this study, 748 college students (M = 20.59, SD = 2.65) as a sample for cross-sectional study. The Perceived Stress Questionnaire, Brief Fear of Missing Out Scale, Self-Rating Questionnaire for Adolescent Problematic Mobile Phone Use, Athens Insomnia Scale and Highly Sensitive Child Scale were used.Results: (1) Perceived stress significantly positively predicts the insomnia symptoms of college students; (2) Fear of missing out and mobile phone dependence play a chain mediating role between perceived stress and the insomnia symptoms of college students; (3) environmental sensitivity moderated the pathways of mobile phone dependence on insomnia symptoms.Conclusion: We revealed the underlying mechanisms between perceived stress and insomnia symptoms. The findings highlight the importance of interventions for fear of missing out and mobile phone dependence, as well as the role of environmental sensitivity in influencing insomnia symptoms.Keywords: perceived stress, fear of missing out, mobile phone dependence, environmental sensitivity, insomnia symptoms, college students

ABSTRACT Copepods are one of the most abundant invertebrate groups in the seas and oceans and are a significant food source for marine animals. Copepods are also particularly sensitive to elevated temperatures. However, it is relatively unknown how the internal microbiome influences copepod susceptibility to warming. We addressed this fundamental knowledge gap by assessing key life history traits (survival, development, and reproduction) and changes in the internal microbiome in the tropical calanoid copepod Acartia sp. in response to warming (26°C, 30°C, and 34°C). Copepod microbiomes were analyzed using high throughput DNA sequencing of V1–V9 of 16S rRNA hypervariable regions. Copepod performance was better at 30°C than at 26°C, as indicated by faster development, a higher growth rate, and fecundity. However, these parameters strongly decreased at 34°C. We recorded 1,262,987 amplicon sequence reads, corresponding to 392 total operational taxonomic units (OTUs) at 97% similarity. Warming did not affect OTU numbers and the biodiversity indices, but it substantially changed the relative abundance of three major phyla: Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidota. The thermophilic and opportunistic Proteobacteria and Bacteroidota increased under extreme temperatures (34°C) while Actinobacteria abundance was strongly reduced. Changes in the relative abundance of these bacteria might be related to reduced copepod growth, survival, and reproduction under extreme temperatures. Profiling the functional role of all internal bacterial groups in response to the temperature change will fundamentally advance our mechanistic understanding of the performance of tropical copepods and, more generally, marine invertebrates to a warming climate.

However, there are few reports available that focuses on assessing effect of BMS on the risk of CVD in Chinese population using multiple models.Objective: This research aims to assess the function of BMS on the risk of CVD in Chinese patients with obesity using multiple CVD risk models.Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of the basic data and glycolipid metabolism data preoperatively and postoperatively from patients with obesity at our hospital. Subgroup analysis was carried out according to different surgical procedures. Then, the function of BMS on the risk of CVD in the Chinese population was assessed using four models, including: China-PAR risk model, Framingham risk score (FRS), World Health Organization (WHO) risk model, and Globorisk model.Results: We enrolled 64 patients, 24 (37.5%) of whom underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) while 40 (62.5%) underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). The 10-year CVD risk for patients calculated using the China-PAR risk model decreased from 6.3% preoperatively to 2.0% at 1 year postoperatively and was statistically significantly different. Similarly, the 10-year CVD risk of patients calculated using the FRS, WHO, Global risk model decreased significantly at 1 year postoperatively compared to preoperatively. When the FRS risk model was used to calculate the patients’ 30-year postoperative CVD risk, there was a significant decrease at 1 year after surgery compared to the preoperative period. When employing various models to evaluate the 10-year CVD risk for LSG and RYGB, no statistically significant difference was found in the 1-year postoperative RRR between the procedures.Conclusion: The CVD risk after BMS was significantly reduced compared to preoperatively. In terms of improving cardiovascular risk, SG and RYGB appear to be equally effective.Keywords: obesity, metabolic surgery, T2DM, CVD risk model

Chronic low-grade inflammation of adipose tissue is associated with obesity and obesity-related complications.Objective: This study intends to establish a nomogram based on inflammatory response-related methylation sites in intraoperative visceral adipose tissue (VAT) to predict excess weight loss (EWL)% at one-year after LSG.Methods: Based on EWL% at one-year after LSG, patients were divided into two groups: the satisfied group (group-A, EWL%≥ 50%) and the unsatisfied group (group-B, EWL%< 50%). Next, we defined genes corresponding to the methylation sites in the 850 K methylation microarray as methylation-related genes (MRGs). We then took the intersection of MRGs and inflammatory response-related genes. After that, inflammatory response-related methylation sites were identified based on overlapping genes. Moreover, difference analysis was carried out to obtain inflammatory response-related differentially methylated sites (IRRDMSs) between group-A and group-B. LASSO analysis was used to identify the hub methylation sites. Finally, we developed a nomogram based on the hub methylation sites.Results: There were 26 patients in the study, with 13 in group-A and 13 in group-B. After data filtering and difference analysis, 200 IRRDMSs were identified (143 hypermethylated sites and 57 hypomethylated sites). Then, we identified three hub methylation sites (cg03610073, cg03208951, and cg18746357) by LASSO analysis and built a predictive nomogram (Area under the curve=0.953).Conclusion: The predictive nomogram based on three inflammatory-related methylation sites (cg03610073, cg03208951, and cg18746357) in intraoperative visceral adipose tissue can predict one-year EWL% after LSG effectively.Keywords: DNA methylation, excess weight loss, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, inflammation, nomogram

Their demographic characteristics, anthropometric variables, and glucolipid metabolic parameters were assessed preoperatively and at their 1-year postoperative follow-up. Subgroup analysis compared body mass index (BMI) < 35 kg/m2 and BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2, as well as gender. We used the 3 models to calculate their CVD risk.Results: We evaluated 61 patients, of whom 26 (42.62%) had undergone sleeve gastrectomy (SG) surgery and 35 (57.38%) Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery. Of the patients with BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2, 66.67% underwent SG, while 72.97% with BMI < 35 kg/m2 underwent RYGB. HDL levels were significantly higher at 12 months postoperatively relative to baseline. When the models were applied to calculate CVD risk in Chinese patients with obesity, the 1-year CVD risk after surgery were reduced lot compared with the preoperative period.Conclusion: Patient with obesity had significantly lower CVD risks after bariatric surgery. This study also demonstrates that the models are reliable clinical tools for assessing the impact of bariatric surgery on CVD risk in the Chinese population.Keywords: obesity, bariatric surgery, CVD, World Health Organization risk model, global risk model, Framingham Risk Score

We evaluated the BMI, percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL), and type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia statuses. Linear and logistic regression analyses were performed on the relationship between the initial and long-term weight loss. The optimal cut-off value was determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.Results: We enrolled 307 patients, with a median preoperative BMI of 39.68 (35.68, 45.47) kg/m2. %EWL ≥ 50% was regarded as successful weight loss, and 76.55% of the patients lost their weight successfully. (Reviewer #1, comment #4) %EWL at 6 months and 5 years were positively correlated (P < 0.001). Further, the following linear equation could express the relationship: (%EWL5 years = 29.193 + 0.526 × %EWL6 months). %EWL ≥ 58.57% at 6 months was the best predictor of successful weight loss at 5 years after LSG (Reviewer #1, comment #5) (sensitivity, 73.62%; specificity, 73.61%; AUC value, 0.780). Then, we selected five members from this TSC family as the test samples. They were analysed by a new exon group sequencing method. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were screened by using databases, such as dbSNP and HAPMAP, and then the candidate genes were selected. Genes were analysed, and finally, the most likely mutation sites were screened. The results were examined by Sanger sequencing.Results: In this TSC family, we identified c.913+2T>G, a splicing site mutation in the 9th intron region of TSC1. A total of 479 wild blue swimming crabs, Portunus pelagicus were collected from north to south along the Vietnam coastline. Symbiont species of the crabs were determined using morphological and genetic characters, and the temporal and spatial variation pattern in the symbiont were examined. For the symbionts load, 17.95% of crabs were uninfected, 46.13% infected by 1–2 species, 27.33% infected by 3–5 species, and 8.56% infected by more than 5 species. Among the 18 symbiont species found, 6 comprise unidentified, and three probably new host records. Crabs from the center of Vietnam had 17 symbiont species, those from the north had 12, and those from the south had 13. The most common symbionts were pedunculate barnacles, Octolasmis angulata, its congeners (O. warwickii and O. neptuni), and the protozoan ciliate, Zoothamnium chlamydis. The nemertean, Carcinonemertes mitsukurii and the copepod, Choniosphaera indica are well-known egg eating parasites. Verrillactis paguri and Electroma papilionacea were exclusively found in central Vietnam and Triticella flavar occurred in the north only. The most common symbionts differed in prevalence and mean intensity across geographic localities, and sex differences were found. Epistylis sp. and C. mitsukurii differed in prevalence and mean intensity in the two host sexes, whereas O. angulata and O. warwickii intensity and prevalence, respectively, differed. Prevalence and mean intensity were positively correlated with crab sizes for O. angulata and C. mitsukurii. Combined host features (distribution, sex and size) against symbiont diversity were also detected to be significantly different. Considering the host-symbiont associations, diversity indexes did not show a clear connection between host features and symbiotic diversity.

Background and objectiveApproximately 16% of the global population, or 1.3 billion individuals, live with disabilities, facing increased health risks. Despite international and national policies affirming the rights of persons with disabilities, healthcare disparities persist, with studies revealing higher rates of unmet medical needs, avoidable deaths, and dissatisfaction with healthcare services among this population. This scoping review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of health inequities experienced by individuals with disabilities globally.MethodsA rapid scoping review methodology was employed to systematically search and analyze quantitative evidence on health inequities. Electronic searches were conducted in CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO databases, supplemented by manual searches of reference lists. The selection criteria for articles in this study were as follows: (a) publication between 2011 and 2022, (b) written in English, (c) published in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, and (d) a quantitative comparison of health inequities between persons with and without disabilities.ResultsA total of 363 scholarly works were initially identified, with 51 meeting the inclusion criteria after rigorous screening. In the course of our review, our team identified three overarching themes of health inequity, encompassing (a) access to healthcare and resources, (b) morbidity, mortality, & risk factors, and (c) social determinants of health. These studies collectively reveal disparities in healthcare access, utilization, and outcomes among persons with disabilities, highlighting the urgent need for targeted interventions to address systemic barriers and promote equitable healthcare provision.ConclusionThis review underscores the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing quality healthcare and imperative for concerted efforts to advance health equity.

BackgroundBreast cancer (BC) exhibits a high incidence rate, imposing a substantial burden on healthcare systems. Novel drug targets are urgently needed for BC. Mendelian randomization (MR) has gained widespread application for identifying fresh therapeutic targets. Our endeavor was to pinpoint circulatory proteins causally linked to BC risk and proffer potential treatment targets for BC.MethodsThrough amalgamating protein quantitative trait loci from 2,004 circulating proteins and comprehensive genome-wide association study data from the Breast Cancer Association Consortium, we conducted MR analyses. Employing Steiger filtering, bidirectional MR, Bayesian colocalization, phenotype scanning, and replication analyses, we further solidified MR study outcomes. Additionally, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was harnessed to unveil latent associations between proteins and prevailing breast cancer medications. The phenome-wide MR (Phe-MR) was employed to assess potential side effects and indications for the druggable proteins of BC. Finally, we further affirmed the drugability of potential drug targets through mRNA expression analysis and molecular docking.ResultsThrough comprehensive analysis, we identified five potential drug targets, comprising four (TLR1, A4GALT, SNUPN, and CTSF) for BC and one (TLR1) for BC_estrogen receptor positive. None of these five potential drug targets displayed reverse causation. Bayesian colocalization suggested that these five latent drug targets shared variability with breast cancer. All drug targets were replicated within the deCODE cohort. TLR1 exhibited PPI with current breast cancer therapeutic targets. Furthermore, Phe-MR unveiled certain adverse effects solely for TLR1 and SNUPN.ConclusionOur study uncovers five prospective drug targets for BC and its subtypes, warranting further clinical exploration.

Background and aim: Rivaroxaban is an emerging oral anticoagulant for postoperative anticoagulation after percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC). Because a once-daily dosing regimen of rivaroxaban causes fluctuations in the drug plasma concentration, we studied the feasibility and safety of twice-daily rivaroxaban as a postoperative anticoagulation regimen for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing LAAC.Methods: This study involved patients with AF who underwent LAAC and took rivaroxaban postoperatively. A total of 326 patients who received a standard total dose (15 or 20 mg) of rivaroxaban based on their creatinine clearance rate were divided into the twice-daily (BID) rivaroxaban group (n = 208) and once-daily (QD) rivaroxaban group (n = 118) according to their anticoagulation strategy. Transesophageal echocardiography was recommended at 3–6 months postoperatively to check for device-related thrombosis (DRT). Clinical outcomes were evaluated during postoperative anticoagulation.Results: The median CHA2DS2-VASc score (4 [3, 5] vs. 4 [3, 5], p = 0.28) and HAS-BLED score (2 [2, 3] vs. 2 [2, 3], p = 0.48) were not significantly different between the groups. During the anticoagulation period (4.1 ± 0.7 vs. 4.1 ± 0.9 months, p = 0.58), 148 (71.2%) patients in the BID group and 75 (63.6%) in the QD group underwent follow-up transesophageal echocardiography. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of DRT (1.4% vs. 2.7%, p = 0.60), minor bleeding (8.2% vs. 11.0%, p = 0.39), thromboembolic events (1.0% vs. 0.8%, p = 1.00), major bleeding (0.5% vs. 0.8%, p = 1.00), or death.Conclusion: A short course of twice-daily rivaroxaban following LAAC is a feasible alternative regimen with a low rate of major bleeding events, DRT, and thromboembolic events for patients with AF.

To enhance the service quality of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the UAV-aided Internet of Things (IoT) systems could deploy a Deep Neural Network (DNN) for performance prediction for the users. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is applied to such networks in order to improve spectrum efficiency, and results in improved quality of service at the ground users under the mobility of UAV. The outage and ergodic capacity requirements of the IoT users may not be satisfied due to some imperfect system parameters such as hardware noise. A DNN-based algorithm for performance prediction and the design of multiple antennas at the UAV under hardware noise is proposed. In this DNN-based UAV-NOMA, the central controller (server) collects system parameters periodically based on observing the state of IoT system and performs adjustments to the dynamic environment. The closed-form expressions for the outage probability and the ergodic capacity are derived to evaluate the performance of a group of IoT users. Our numerical results demonstrate that: i) In contrast to the traditional UAV-NOMA system, the UAV cannot know the performance at each IoT user in order to adjust the parameters (i.e. power allocation factors) before transmitting the signals to the devices; while the proposed DNN-based IoT system is capable of predicting the performance; ii) The performance of the IoT users can be significantly improved by integrating more antennas at the UAV and limiting levels of hardware noise; iii) By designing NOMA, the UAV-NOMA-based IoT system can increase the throughput to the tune of 40% compared with the benchmark (the orthogonal multiple access (OMA)-based IoT).

The updated analysis of the LHCb Collaboration on the lepton flavor violation suggests that the new physics should couple to muons and electrons with comparable magnitudes, resulting in the anomalies in both rare decay channels, b→sμ+μ− and b→se+e−. Meanwhile, the recent result of the Muon g−2 experiment with higher precision has increased the existing tension with the standard model prediction. In this paper, we consider an extension of the standard model with a new sector consisting of vectorlike fermions and two scalar charged under an extra U(1)X gauge symmetry. The exotic Yukawa interactions in this model lead to the quark mixing responsible for the additional contributions to the flavor changing neutral currents in B-meson decays, and solve the muon g−2 discrepancy. We derive the analytic expression of the new physics contributions to the Wilson coefficient C7 in the effective Hamiltonian, and point out that the CKM unitarity violation can be explained within this context. By calculating the branching ratio of the inclusive radiative B decay, the impact of current experimental data of the b→sγ transition on the model and the future prospect at the Belle II experiment are investigated. Taking into account the current data on the muon anomalous magnetic moment, the CKM unitarity violation, the constraints on the flavor observables relevant to the b→s transitions, the LHC searches for vectorlike quarks, and the perturbation limits of the couplings, the viable parameter regions of the model are identified.

The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between organoboronic acids and N-methoxy-N-methylcarbamoyl chloride to synthesize Weinreb benzamides and [alpha],[beta]-unsaturated Weinreb amides is described. The simple method could also be applied to the use of potassium organotrifluoroborates.

Infertility has become the third largest human disease in the world. With the wide application of in vitro fertilization (IVF), millions of people solve the problem of infertility by IVF every year. However, many patients experience recurrent IVF failures, displaying abnormal reproductive phenotypes (such as gamete development abnormalities, fertilization disorders, and early embryonic discontinuation). With the development of gene sequencing technology and the deepening of reproductive genetics research, more and more pathogenic genetic factors have been discovered. Genetic testing for these reproductive phenotypes can help patients make an early diagnosis and avoid repeated ineffective attempts. However, the treatment of the patients with recurrent IVF failures after genetic testing has become a new focus of attention. In this paper, the genetic factors, the treatment and potential intervention strategies of recurrent IVF failures in recent years are summarized to provide a reference for individualized diagnosis and treatment.

Swallowing reflex and brain stem neurons activated by superior laryngeal nerve stimulation in the mouse. Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol 280: G191-G200, 2001.--The purpose of the present study was to identify vagal subnuclei that participate in reflex swallowing in response to electrical stimulation of the left superior laryngeal nerve (SLN). SLN stimulation at 10 Hz evoked primary peristalsis, including oropharyngeal and esophageal peristalsis, and LES relaxation. It also induced c-fos expression in interneurons in the interstitial (SolI), intermediate (SolIM), central (SolCe), dorsomedial (SolDM) and commissural (SolC) solitary subnuclei. Neurons in parvicellular reticular nucleus (PCRt) and area postrema (AP) and motoneurons in the semicompact (NAsc), loose (NAl), and compact (NAc) formations of the nucleus ambiguus and both rostral (DMVr) and caudal (DMVc) parts of the dorsal motor nucleus of vagus were also activated. The activated neurons represent all neurons concerned with afferent SLN-mediated reflexes, including the swallowing-related neurons. SLN stimulation at 5 Hz elicited oropharyngeal and LES but not esophageal responses and evoked c-fos expression in neurons in SolI, SolIM, SolDM, PCRt, AP, NAsc, NAl, and DMVc but not in SolCe, NAc, or DMVr. These data are consistent with the role of SolI, SolIM, SolDM, NAsc, NAl, and DMVc circuit in oropharyngeal peristalsis and LES relaxation and SolCe, NAc, DMVc, and DMVr in esophageal peristalsis and LES responses. c-fos expression; solitary subnuclei; nucleus ambiguus; dorsal motor nucleus of vagus; swallowing program generator

African Americans have a higher prevalence of obesity and obesity-related diseases than other racial/ethnic groups; among persons with serious mental illness (SMI), African Americans fare worse as well. This qualitative study focused on the perceptions of African Americans with SMI in regard to 1) their experiences with diet and exercise behaviors post trauma and 2) how diet and exercise programming can address trauma. A community-based participatory research (CBPR) team developed the interview guide, research protocols, and conducted three focus groups. The team used thematic analysis to analyze the data. Participant (*N* = 27) responses on the experience of trauma were coded into the following themes: 1) emotional eating, 2) appetite loss, 3) hesitancy to exercise due to community violence, 4) staying home due to mental health symptoms, and 5) substance use. Themes around how programming can address trauma included: 1) support, 2) communication, 3) strategies to avoid trauma, and 4) engagement in programming. Findings suggest the need for human service professionals to infuse trauma-informed communications and practices throughout programming, incorporate peer-led services and address concerns related to community violence.

Total humeral replacement is a complex surgery that requires many challenges to overcome such as the weight of the implant material and the shoulder function due to extensive resection of the rotator cuff. Improvements in implants material that is lighter than usual can lead to higher surgery success rates. We present a patient who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the right humerus. The patient received 2 cycles of MAP chemotherapy (included: doxorubicin, cisplatin, and methotrexate) before surgery. He underwent radical resection of osteosarcoma and total humerus replacement with a modified total humeral material. The purpose of this improvement was to reduce the implant’s weight and to improve postoperative recovery. Six months after the surgery, the weight-bearing ability of the patient’s shoulder within a wide range of movement has restored; the shoulder, elbow, and hand can move in a controlled way. Despite the short postoperative follow-up time, the improvement in the modified technique has brought many positive results. Total humerus replacement, which combines the reverse shoulder prosthesis, elbow prosthesis, and polyetheretherketone, is an appropriate solution for patients with osteosarcoma of the humerus instead of custom-made humerus megaprosthesis.
