It’s a commensal fungus colonizing various sites. However, when the host’s immune system weakens, it becomes pathogenic and is responsible for various lesions. In Burkina Faso, antifungal drugs are frequently used, particularly fluconazole, the most used systemic antifungal. This antifungal drug and other antifungal drugs are often used for self-medication or prescribed outside of antifungal susceptibility test results. These situations led to the emergence of Candida albicans strains resistant to antifungal drugs commonly used in Burkina Faso. The aim of this study was to determine the types of Candida albicans using PCRs targeting 25S rDNA and ALT repeat sequences of the RPS and to establish their azoles and polyenes susceptibility profile.Material and methods: Antifungal susceptibility testing by disk diffusion method was performed in accordance with CLSI document M44-A for yeasts and the manufacturer’s instructions. Candida albicans isolates were genotyped using specific PCR primers of the rDNA and RPS genes.Results: Ten (10) RPS types of Candida albicans were found in our study: The most common RPS types are A3 (40.6%), A2 (24.0%) and A2/3 (14.6%) for genotype A, B2/3 (5.2%) for genotype B and C2 (3.2%) for genotype C. The Azole resistance, especially fluconazole (74.4%), was the most common with genotype A, including A3 (36.6%), A2 (18. 3%). Polyene resistance was rare with nystatin, only A3 (1.2%) resistant isolate to nystatin was observed. For amphotericin B, the highest observed resistance rates were A3 (11.0%) and A2/3 (8.5%) for the genotype A and B2 (10.0%), B3 (10.0%) and B2/3 (10.0%) for genotype B.Conclusion: Our study showed that Candida albicans resistance to azoles, especially to fluconazole, is an important phenomenon in Ouagadougou, and several genotypes RPS types are involved. Thus, fluconazole would not be an antifungal agent for first-line prescribing for treatment of candidiasis in Ouagadougou. This study will be continued to determine the molecular mechanisms involved in these antifungal resistances, for further research of new molecules with different action targets.Keywords: Candida, rDNA, RPS, antifungal, susceptibility, Burkina Faso

Abstract Introduction Hyperreactive malarial splenomegaly (HMS) is one of the main causes of massive splenomegaly in malaria-endemic zones. Diagnosis is often challenging in Bobo-Dioulasso. This study aimed to describe the clinical and socio-demographic profile, and the reasons for delay in the diagnosis of HMS cases recorded in the Medicine and Medical Specialties wards of Souro Sanou Teaching hospital. Methods A retrospective descriptive study was conducted from August 2022 by focusing on HMS cases diagnosed in the Infectious Diseases and Clinical Hematology wards of Souro Sanou Teaching Hospital. Results Overall, 65 patients met our inclusion criteria over the 12-year period. Burkinabe nationals and have been residing in Burkina Faso since their birth. 79% (79%) of the patients were seen for medical consultation with the reason for consultation being a voluminous mass in the left hypochondrium. Indigence, self-medication, and lack of information were essential elements in late diagnosis of HMS in Bobo-Dioulasso. All patients were treated with a single tablet of Artemether (80 mg) and Lumefantrine (480 mg) in the morning and evening for 3 days, followed by sulfadoxine–pyrimethamine per week. Nine months later, patients were clinically asymptomatic. Conclusion This study provides a database on hyperreactive malarial splenomegaly (HMS) in the south-west region of Burkina Faso. Rapid and accurate diagnosis of the disease and appropriate use of effective antimalarial drugs would significantly reduce the burden of HMS in Sub-Saharan African countries.

Background and Aim: Houseflies (Musca domestica) are synanthropic insects that are vectors of a wide range of multidrug-resistant pathogens responsible for infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to detect and characterize multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae carried by houseflies in Bobo-Dioulasso. Materials and Methods: A total of 500 houseflies were captured in hospital and non-hospital environments in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. For bacteriological analysis, they were divided into 125 batches of five flies each. Multidrug-resistant bacteria isolated on MacConkey agar supplemented with 4 μg/mL cefotaxime were identified on the basis of biochemical characteristics. Antibiotic susceptibility profiles were determined using the agar diffusion method. blaCTX-M resistance genes and quinolone resistance genes (plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance) were detected by conventional polymerase chain reaction. Results: Among 115 bacterial strains obtained, 26 were extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing enterobacteria: Escherichia coli (15), Klebsiella pneumoniae (6), Enterobacter cloacae (4), and Morganella morganii (1). Carriers were statistically more important in hospitals (12/26, p = 0.03). No carbapenem-resistance strains were observed. We identified ESBL resistance genes (Cefotaximase Munich; CTX-M group 1) (25/26) and quinolone resistance genes (QnrS) (6/26). Conclusion: Houseflies in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso are vectors for the transmission of multidrug-resistant enterobacteria. There is a need to monitor the associated risks for public health.

Objective. This study aimed to compare 2 laborless tools, namely, the body mass index-based Framingham (bmi-Frm) and low-information WHO- (li-WHO-) based risk scores, and assess their agreement in outpatients in a cardiology department. Methodology. Data stem from a cross-sectional previous study performed from May to September 2016 in the Cardiology Department of University Hospital Gabriel Touré (UH-GT) in Bamako. All patients aged 40 and more were included in the study allowing the assessment of bmi-Frm and li-WHO prediction charts. Objective: To identify Candida species in asymptomatic subjects in Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso) by the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to February 2013 in Bobo-Dioulasso to collect fecal and urine specimens from voluntary donors. Fungal strains were isolated on Sabouraud dextrose agar and analyzed using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation-time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Results: A total of 135 samples including stools (78.5%, 106/135) and urine (21.5%, 29/135) were analyzed. The results revealed that fecal specimens contained mainly Candida krusei (C. krusei) (42.5%) followed by Candida albicans (29.3%), Candida glabrata (18.0%) and Candida tropicalis (C. tropicalis) (4.7%). C. krusei (34.6%) was also found to be the most frequently identified in urine samples followed by Candida albicans (27.0%), C. tropicalis (15.4%) and Candida parapsilosis. However, uncommon species such as Candida nivariensis, Candida kefyr, Candida norvegensis, Candida parapsilosis, Candida lusitaniae and Candida robusta were also identified from fecal and urines samples. Conclusions: This study noted the emergence of species such as C. krusei, Candida glabrata, Candida parapsiolosis, C. tropicalis, Candida nivariensis, Candida norvegensis, and others. It is an imperative to take into account the existence of these species in the therapeutic management of patients in Bobo-Dioulasso.

Since 1996, the number of cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis has increased dramatically in Ouagadougou. Leishmania major, zymodeme MON74 was the only strain isolated in this focus. An epidemiological study of the phlebotomine sandflies fauna has been undertaken. Collections of sandflies have been carried out in six areas of the town during one year with two intensive collections at the end of the dry (May-June) and wet seasons (September-October). The only species of genus Phlebotomus captured was P. duboscqi. This represented 11.2% from the 4,676 collected sandflies. P. duboscqi is a well known vector of L. major, nevertheless, none of the collected sandflies were infected with L. major. 16 species of Sergentomyia were present in the south area of Ouagadougou and S. schwetzi was the most abundant sandfly.

Abstract Background The question whether Plasmodium falciparum infection affects the fitness of mosquito vectors remains open. A hurdle for resolving this question is the lack of appropriate control, non-infected mosquitoes that can be compared to the infected ones. It was shown recently that heating P. falciparum gametocyte-infected blood before feeding by malaria vectors inhibits the infection. Therefore, the same source of gametocyte-infected blood could be divided in two parts, one heated, serving as the control, the other unheated, allowing the comparison of infected and uninfected mosquitoes which fed on exactly the same blood otherwise. However, before using this method for characterizing the cost of infection to mosquitoes, it is necessary to establish whether feeding on previously heated blood affects the survival and fecundity of mosquito females. Methods Anopheles gambiae M molecular form females were exposed to heated versus non-heated, parasite-free human blood to mimic blood meal on non-infectious versus infectious gametocyte-containing blood. Life history traits of mosquito females fed on blood that was heat-treated or not were then compared. Results The results reveal that heat treatment of the blood did not affect the survival and fecundity of mosquito females. Consistently, blood heat treatment did not affect the quantity of blood ingested. Conclusions The study indicates that heat inactivation of gametocyte-infected blood will only inhibit mosquito infection and that this method is suitable for quantifying the fitness cost incurred by mosquitoes upon infection by P. falciparum.

Background: Dengue virus (DENV) and Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) are major arboviruses that are transmitted to humans by Aedes aegypti (A. aegypti) and Aedes Albopictus (A. Albopictus) mosquitoes. In absence of specific antivirals and vaccine against these two viruses, prompt diagnosis of acute infections and robust surveillance for outbreak identification remain crucial. Therefore, rapid, robust, high-throughput, accessible, and low-cost assays are essential for endemic countries. This study evaluated our recently developed multiplex RT-PCR and RT-qPCR assays to screen for DENV1-4 and CHIKV circulation in Burkina Faso., Methods and Results: This study, conducted between June to August 2023, enrolled patients with suspected arbovirus infection presenting at healthcare facilities in three Burkina Faso cities (Bobo-Dioulasso, Houndé, and Ouagadougou). Serum samples were collected and screened for DENV serotypes and CHIKV using our newly multiplex RT-PCR and RT-q PCR techniques recently developed. A total of 408 patients (age median = 33, range from 3 to 84 years) participated in this study. Of these, 13.7% (56/408) had DENV infection; DENV-1 was 32.1% (18/56) and DENV-3 was 67.9% (38/56). DENV-2, DENV-4 and CHIKV were not detected., Conclusions: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of our molecular methods for DENV detection and serotyping in Burkina Faso. The affordability of our methods makes them valuable for implementing widespread routine clinical diagnostics or arbovirus surveillance in resource-limited settings., (© 2024. Histoplasmosis is a mycosis due to a dimorphic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. This study aimed at providing an overview of histoplasmosis epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects from the last 30 years. This review was carried out using a systematic literature search on histoplasmosis from 1992 to 2021. We describe the clinical features, diagnostic methods and treatment. Empirical searches were conducted via the databases PubMed, Google Scholar and Science Direct. Between 1992 and 2021, 190 manuscripts were published and reported 212 cases of histoplasmosis. These publications included 115 and 97 cases of American and African histoplasmosis respectively. The number of publications increased over the last ten years with a maximum in 2020 (12.34 % of the cases reported). The disseminated forms of histoplasmosis were the most frequently reported cases as compared to the localized forms. This was the case with the American histoplasmosis (75.65 %) as well as with the African histoplasmosis (55.67 %). Itraconazole (31.17 %) and Amphotericin B (26.62 %) were the most used drugs in the management of these cases. American histoplasmosis is distributed worldwide whereas African histoplasmosis is mainly present in intertropical Africa. Background: Entomological surveillance of lymphatic filariasis and malaria infections play an important role in the decision-making of national programs to control, or eliminate these both diseases. In areas where both diseases prevalence is low, a large number of mosquitoes need to be sampled to determine vectors infection rate. To do this, efficient mosquito collection methods must be used. This study is part in this framework, to assess appropriate mosquito collection methods for lymphatic filariasis xenomonitoring in a coexistence context with malaria in Burkina Faso., Methodology/principal Findings: Mosquito collections were performed between August and September 2018 in four villages (Koulpissi, Seiga, and Péribgan, Saptan), distributed in East and South-West health regions of Burkina Faso. Different collection methods were used: Human Landing Catches (HLC) executed indoor and outdoor, Window Exit-Trap, Double Net Trap (DNT) and Pyrethrum Spray Catches (PSC). Molecular analyses were performed to identify Anopheles gambiae s.l. sibling species and to detect Wuchereria bancrofti and Plasmodium falciparum infection in Anopheles mosquitoes. A total of 3 322 mosquitoes were collected among this, Anopheles gambiae s.l. was the vector caught in largest proportion (63.82%). An. gambiae s.l. sibling species molecular characterization showed that An. gambiae was the dominant specie in all villages. The Human Landing Catches (indoor and outdoor) collected the highest proportion of mosquitoes (between 61.5% and 82.79%). For the sampling vectors infected to W. bancrofti or P. falciparum, PSC, HLC and Window Exit-Trap were found the most effective collection methods., Conclusions/significance: This study revealed that HLC indoor and outdoor remained the most effective collection method. The major arboviruses mainly belong to the Bunyaviridae , Togaviridae , and Flaviviridae families, among which the chikungunya virus and dengue virus have emerged as global public health problems. The main objective of this study was to develop specific, sensitive, and cost-effective molecular multiplex RT-PCR and RT-qPCR assays for the rapid and simultaneous detection of CHIKV and the four serotypes of DENV for arbovirus surveillance. Specific primers for all viruses were designed, and one-step multiplex RT-PCR (mRT-PCR) and RT-qPCR (mRT-qPCR) were developed using reference strains of the CHIKV and DENV serotypes. The specificity of the test for all the viruses was confirmed through sequencing. The standard curves showed a high correlation coefficient, R 2 = 0.99, for DENV-2 and DENV-3; R 2 = 0.98, for DENV-4; and CHIKV; R 2 = 0.93, for DENV-1. The limits of detection were calculated to be 4.1 × 10 -1 copies/reaction for DENV-1, DENV-3, and CHIKV and 4.1 × 10 1 for DENV-2 and DENV-4. The specificity and sensitivity of the newly developed mRT-PCR and mRT-qPCR were validated using positive serum samples collected from India and Burkina Faso. The sensitivity of mRT-PCR and mRT-qPCR are 91%, and 100%, respectively. The specificity of both assays was 100%. mRT-PCR and mRT-qPCR assays are low-cost, and a combination of both will be a useful tool for arbovirus surveillance.

Faced with the focal resurgence of onchocerciasis reported since 2004 in the South-West of Burkina Faso, the Neglected Tropical Diseases Control Program adopted a resumption of biannual community-directed treatment with ivermectin, since 2011 in the Cascades region and since 2013 in the South West region. The objective of this study was to assess the situation of onchocerciasis transmission in the Cascades region, nine years after the resumption of mass drug administration. This cross-sectional and descriptive survey concerned people over 5. The traditional method of skin snip on both iliac crests was performed for the parasitological diagnosis of onchocerciasis. The Ov-16 serological test was carried out in children aged 5 to 9 years. In 22 surveyed villages, the overall prevalence of microfilariae was 0.11% and below the tolerable threshold of 5%. It was less than 5% in all the villages (n = 22), less than 1% in 21 villages (99%) and zero in 19 villages (86.36%). The community microfilarial loads varied from 0.01 to 0.05 mf/b. Out of 946 children tested for OV-16, only one 9-year-old was positive and whose skin snip examination was negative. All the positive cases came from endemical areas in Côte d'Ivoire. Schistosomiasis is a common neglected helminthic disease in the tropics and sub-tropics particularly in sub-Saharan countries including Burkina Faso. It is the second world parasitic endemic disease after malaria. The two prevalent species infecting human in Burkina Faso are are Schistosoma haematobium and Schistosoma mansoni which cause respectively the urogenital schistosomiasis and the intestinal schistosomiasis. This review aimed at providing an historical perspective of research on schistosomiasis from 1960 to 2020 and shedding some light on the gaps in knowledge useful for the disease control and the elimination efforts in Burkina Faso. Formal systematic review was not followed for this review. Published studies on the schistosomiasis in Burkina Faso over the period from 1960 to 2020, were search in Medline, PubMed, Google Scholar, EMBASE and the libraries of main universities in Burkina Faso namely: Joseph KI-ZERBO University and Nazi BONI University. The following key words used were: Schistosomiasis, Bilharzia, Bulinus, Biomphalaria, Upper-Volta and Burkina Faso. Over a period of 60 years, a total of 87 scientific research documents were identified. The original scientific research articles represent the majority of the scientific documents found (65.52%). Urinary schistosomiasis was the most common from the documentation. There has been a gradual decrease in the prevalence, more significantly since the implementation of the National Schistosomiasis Control Program (NSCP). The effectiveness of the NSCP could therefore contribute to the elimination of schistosomiasis in Burkina Faso.

Background: An issue of particular concern is the impact of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019 nCOV) on the people coinfected with the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) and/or tuberculosis (TB). Unfortunately, this interaction has not been well explored in African despite the large proportion of these risk populations living with HIV and/or patients and/or tuberculosis (TB) in the African region. This study aims to design a research protocol for assessment of the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on these risk populations in response to COVID-19 strategic plans in Burkina Faso by generating serological, epidemiological, virological, clinical and socio-anthropological evidence-based data., Methods: A multidisciplinary research will be conducted in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso using mixed methods. Data will be collected from a cohort of people living with HIV and/or TB patients in the city (i) to determine the proportion of people with specific antibodies against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) using retrospective data ; (ii) to determine the proportion of people infected with Covid-19 and the dynamics of viral loads and antibodies in these people based on prospective data; (iii) to identify circulating SARS-COV-2 variants and novel biomarkers using prospective data ; (iv) to analyze perceptions, community experiences and response strategies during the public health emergencies imposed by COVID-19 through a qualitative study., Discussion: This study will generate factual and comprehensive data that will contribute in improving response strategies to COVID-19 and the other possible emerging diseases with keen interest on the risk populations living with HIV and/or TB infected patients., (© 2023. Canine leishmaniasis is increasingly reported worldwide and represent a threat to both animal and human health. In a previous pilot study conducted in Bobo-Dioulasso, the second town of Burkina Faso, we reported five cases of canine leishmaniasis. With the perspective of a One Health action plan, and in the context of increasing urbanization, this study aimed to provide new information on Leishmania spp in dogs in this city. A cross-sectional survey was carried out from May to August 2018 in six districts of the city in order to record clinical and biological data from domestic dogs randomly selected per district. Blood samples were collected into EDTA tubes (4-5 mL), treated and stored at -20 °C until further analyses. The infection status of the dogs was performed by serological tests using plasma, and real time-PCR (RT-PCR) to detect Leishmania parasites using buffy coats. Nested PCR was used for typing the Leishmania species in dogs which were found to be RT-PCR positive. A total of 147 dogs were examined clinically and sampled for blood collection, including 53.7% females and 46.3% of males with a median age of 3 years. The seroincidence of Leishmania parasites within this dog population was 4.76% (95% CI:2.26-9.72). The incidence of Leishmania was 10.88% (95% CI: 6.73-17.11) by RT-PCR which was significantly more sensitive (p = 0,047) and a fair concordance was observed between both tests (Kappa = 0.39, p < 0.001). The characterization of Leishmania species revealed that L. major was circulating in this domestic dog population. Our results confirmed the persistence of zoonotic circulation of Leishmania parasites such as L. major currently in Bobo-Dioulasso city and highlight the need for targeted interventions in order to control transmission of leishmaniasis in this region., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. Despite the implementation of different strategies to fight against malaria in Burkina Faso since 2005, it remains today the leading cause of hospitalization and death. Adapting interventions to the spatial and temporal distribution of malaria could help to reduce this burden. This study aims to determine the structure and stability of malaria hotspots in Burkina Faso, with the objective of adapting interventions at small geographical scales. Data on malaria cases from 2013 to 2020 were acquired at municipalities level. Municipality-wise malaria endemicity levels were mapped through geographical information system (GIS) tools. Spatial statistical analysis using Kulldoff sweeps were carried out to identify malaria hotspots. Then we mapped the monthly malaria risk. Malaria is endemic in all the municipalities of Burkina Faso. However, two stable main spatial clusters (South-Western and Eastern part of the country) are emerging with seasonal reinforcement. Interventions targeting the identified clusters could significantly reduce the incidence of malaria in Burkina Faso. Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent permanent rhythm disorder.Theaim of this work was to determine the epidemiological and clinical aspects of atrial fibrillation cases hospitalized in the cardiology department of the University Hospital of Kati., Materials and Methods: We carried out a descriptive retrospective study, from January 2018 to December 2019.Patients of all ages and both sexes with clinical and EKG atrial fibrillation admitted to the department during the study period were included in the study.The variables studiedwere: socio-demographic characteristics, clinical signs, classification of atrial fibrillation, and comorbidities associated., Results: A total of 52 patients were included in the studyof 203 cases hospitalized in the department, with a hospital prevalence of 25.61%, the female sex was predominant 69.23%. The main reason for consultation was heart failure syndrome (46.15%).Arterial hypertension (55.76%) was the mostassociatedcomorbidity. Malaria remains the most common parasitic disease on the planet, with 229 million cases and 409,000 deaths worldwide in 2019, including 274,030 children under the age of 5. It is one of the most important infectious diseases in the world and its control is compromised by the spread of the parasite's resistance to antimalarial drugs. This study aims to review the literature of resistant Plasmodium falciparum genes over the past twenty years. One hundred and five (105) articles were collected and read while the resistance of P. falciparum was being studied. Several P. falciparum gene resistances antimalarial drugs were discovered over the past twenty years. The most recent one is the Kelch13 gene of P. falciparum (Pfkelch13) which has showed resistance to artemisinin in Asia. In Africa, this gene represents a potential candidate for resistance to artemisinin, although no resistance was reported.

Background: Insecticide resistance has become a widespread problem causing a decline in the effectiveness of vector control tools in sub-Saharan Africa. In this situation, ongoing monitoring of vector susceptibility to insecticides is encouraged by the WHO to guide national malaria control programmes. Our study was conducted from April to November 2018 in Tchonka (Sud-Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) and reported primary data on the resistance status of Anopheles funestus and Anopheles gambiae., Methods: Insecticide susceptibility bioassays were performed on wild populations of A. funestus and A. gambiae using WHO insecticide-impregnated papers at discriminating concentration. In addition, PCR was performed to identify mosquito species and to detect kdr and ace-1R mutations involved in insecticide resistance., Results: Bioassay results show resistance to all tested insecticides except pirimiphos-methyl, propoxur, fenitrothion and malathion with a mortality rate ranging from 95.48 to 99.86%. The addition of piperonyl butoxide (PBO) increased the susceptibility of vectors to deltamethrin and alpha-cypermethrin by exhibiting a mortality ranging from 91.50 to 95.86%. The kdr mutation was detected at high frequencies (approximately 0.98) within A. gambiae while ace-1R was not detected., Conclusions: This study provides useful data on the insecticide resistance profiles of malaria vector populations to better manage vector control. This review sets out to highlighted knowledge gaps regarding the epidemiological, diagnostic (clinical and laboratory) and therapeutic aspects of otomycosis in Africa. A computerized literature search for otomycosis related articles were performed using MEDLINE. The search encompassed articles published in early January 1980 to May 2019 yielded 220 articles. Electronic search on PubMed was performed with the specific keywords. This review shows the higher prevalence rates of otomycosis in Africa. These prevalences varies from one country to the other and also from one population to another within the same country. The main symptoms are otalgia, otorrhea, hearing loss, aural fullness, pruritus, and tinnitus. Otomycosis is due to several predisposing factors, however, use of topical antibiotic/steroid eardrops, trauma to the external ear canal or instrumentation of the ear, being exposed to hot humid atmospheres, and close contact with water are the common risk factors. Aspergillus species are the most commonly identified organisms compared with Candida species. Worldwide, A. niger and C. albicans are the most commonly described agents of otomycosis in Africa. The Laboratory diagnosis of otomycosis is usually confirmed by mycologic tests relied on a set of evidences. Further conventional methods such as Chromagar Candida System, latex agglutination test, Biochemical tests (Api 20C AuxTM and auxanogram), phenotypical tests (Germ-tube and chlamydosporulation), and rRNA gene sequencing (PCR) are performed to improve diagnosis and the management of the disease. Adequate treatment of otomycosis includes microscopic suction clearance of fungal mass, discontinuation of topical antibiotics and treatment with antifungal eardrops for three weeks., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Masson SAS. Background: This study reports an updated description on malaria vector diversity, behaviour, insecticide resistance and malaria transmission in the Diébougou and Dano peri-urban areas, Burkina Faso., Methods: Mosquitoes were caught monthly using CDC light traps and pyrethrum spray catches. Mosquitoes were identified using morphological taxonomic keys. PCR techniques were used to identify the species of the Anopheles gambiae complex and insecticide resistance mechanisms in a subset of Anopheles vectors. The Plasmodium sporozoite infection status and origins of blood meals of female mosquitoes were determined by ELISA methods. Larvae were collected, breed in the insectary and tested for phenotypic resistance against four insecticides using WHO bioassays., Results: This study contributed to update the entomological data in two peri-urban areas of Southwest Burkina Faso. Anopheles populations were mostly anthropophilic and endophilic in both areas and exhibit high susceptibility to an organophosphate insecticide. This offers an alternative for the control of these pyrethroid-resistant populations. These data might help the National Malaria Control Programme for decision-making about vector control planning and resistance management., Conclusions: This study contributed to update the entomological data in two peri-urban areas of Southwest Burkina Faso.
