Among many-body instabilities in correlated quantum systems, electronic nematicity, defined by the spontaneous breaking of rotational symmetry, has emerged as a critical phenomenon, particularly within high-temperature superconductors. Recently, this behavior has been identified in CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$, a member of the AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = K, Rb, Cs) kagome family, recognized for its intricate and unconventional quantum phases. Despite accumulating indirect evidence, the fundamental mechanisms driving nematicity in CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$ remain inadequately understood, sparking ongoing debates. In this study, we employ polarization-dependent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to reveal definitive signatures of an orbital-selective nematic deformation in the electronic structure of CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$. This direct experimental evidence underscores the pivotal role of orbital degrees of freedom in symmetry breaking, providing new insights into the complex electronic environment. By applying the functional renormalization group technique to a fully interacting ab initio model, we demonstrate the emergence of a finite angular momentum ($d$-wave) Pomeranchuk instability in CsTi$_3$Bi$_5$, driven by the concomitant action of electronic correlations within specific orbital channels and chemical potential detuning away from Van Hove singularities. By elucidating the connection between orbital correlations and symmetry-breaking instabilities, this work lays a crucial foundation for future investigations into the broader role of orbital selectivity in quantum materials, with far-reaching implications for the design and manipulation of novel electronic phases.

We propose three transition-metal adatom systems on 3C-SiC(111) surfaces as a versatile platform to realize massless Dirac fermions and flat bands with strong electronic correlations. Using density functional theory combined with the constrained random phase approximation and dynamical mean-field theory, we investigate the electronic properties of Ti, V, and Cr adatoms. The triangular surface lattices exhibit narrow bandwidths and effective two-band Hubbard models near the Fermi level, originating from partially filled, localized d-orbitals of the adatoms. Our study reveals a materials trend from a flat band Fermi liquid (Cr) via a paramagnetic Mott insulator with large local moments (V) to a Mott insulator on the verge to a heavy Dirac semimetal (Ti) showcasing the diverse nature of these strongly correlated systems. Specifically, the flat bands in the Cr and the well-defined Dirac cones in the strained metallic~Ti lattice indicate high potential for realizing topological and correlated phases.

In many application domains, the proliferation of sensors and devices is generating vast volumes of data, imposing significant pressure on existing data analysis and data mining techniques. Nevertheless, an increase in data volume does not inherently imply an increase in informational content, as a substantial portion may be redundant or represent noise. This challenge is particularly evident in the deep learning domain, where the utility of additional data is contingent on its informativeness. In the absence of such, larger datasets merely exacerbate the computational cost and complexity of the learning process. To address these challenges, we propose RAZOR, a novel instance selection technique designed to extract a significantly smaller yet sufficiently informative subset from a larger set of instances without compromising the learning process. RAZOR has been specifically engineered to be robust, efficient, and scalable, making it suitable for large-scale datasets. Unlike many techniques in the literature, RAZOR is capable of operating in both supervised and unsupervised settings. M-theory geometric engineering on non-compact Calabi-Yau fourfolds (CY4) produces 3d theories with 4 supercharges. Carefully establishing a dictionary between the geometry of the CY4 and the QFT in the transverse directions remains, to a large extent, an unresolved challenge, complicated by subtleties arising from M5-brane instanton corrections. Such difficulties can be circumvented in the restricted and yet controlled setting offered by CY4 with terminal singularities, as they do not admit crepant resolutions with compact exceptional divisors. After a general review of their properties and partial classifications, we focus on a subclass of terminal CY4 constructed as deformed Du Val singularities, that admit crepant resolutions with at most exceptional 2-cycles. We extract the corresponding 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric theory descendant in an unambiguous fashion, as the absence of compact 4-cycles leaves no room for a choice of background $G_4$ flux. These turn out to be theories of chiral multiplets with no gauge group and at most abelian flavor factors: we argue that they serve as the simplest building blocks to substantiate a rigorous CY4/3d QFT geometric engineering mapping.

Mercury telluride is an intriguing compound that is well known for the first realization of topological states. Despite being known for a long time, a quantitative understanding of its electronic properties remains challenging due to the presence of many concomitant subtle effects. By combining accurate first principles calculations and $k.p$ modelling, we investigate the topological phase diagram of mercury telluride as a function of strain. Our research demonstrates the significance of including the linearly $k$-dependent higher-order $C_4$ strain terms into the usual $k.p$ treatment. In particular, we report a unique $k$-dependence of the sub-band splitting, which arises from the interplay between strain and the standard bulk inversion asymmetry terms within our $k.p$ model. The impact of this phenomenon is explored in relation to the camel's back shape during the tensile strain phase and its implications for the Weyl semimetal state in the compressive strain case are discussed., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

We show that in models with the Hatsugai-Kohmoto type of interaction that is local in momentum space thus infinite-range in real space, Kubo formulas neither reproduce the correct thermodynamic susceptibilities, nor yield sensible transport coefficients. Using Kohn's trick to differentiate between metals and insulators by threading a flux in a torus geometry, we uncover the striking property that Hatsugai-Kohmoto models with an interaction-induced gap in the spectrum sustain a current that grows as the linear size at any non-zero flux and which can be either diamagnetic or paramagnetic., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure

There is an upward trend of deploying distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS) to control modern power grids. However, DERMS controller communication lines are vulnerable to cyberattacks that could potentially impact operational reliability. While a data-driven intrusion detection system (IDS) can potentially thwart attacks during deployment, also known as the evasion attack, the training of the detection algorithm may be corrupted by adversarial data injected into the database, also known as the poisoning attack. In this paper, we propose the first framework of IDS that is robust against joint poisoning and evasion attacks. We formulate the defense mechanism as a bilevel optimization, where the inner and outer levels deal with attacks that occur during training time and testing time, respectively. We verify the robustness of our method on the IEEE-13 bus feeder model against a diverse set of poisoning and evasion attack scenarios. The results indicate that our proposed method outperforms the baseline technique in terms of accuracy, precision, and recall for intrusion detection.

For cyber-physical systems (CPS), including robotics and autonomous vehicles, mass deployment has been hindered by fatal errors that occur when operating in rare events. To replicate rare events such as vehicle crashes, many companies have created logging systems and employed crash reconstruction experts to meticulously recreate these valuable events in simulation. However, in these methods, "what if" questions are not easily formulated and answered. We present ScenarioNL, an AI System for creating scenario programs from natural language. Specifically, we generate these programs from police crash reports. Reports normally contain uncertainty about the exact details of the incidents which we represent through a Probabilistic Programming Language (PPL), Scenic. By using Scenic, we can clearly and concisely represent uncertainty and variation over CPS behaviors, properties, and interactions. We demonstrate how commonplace prompting techniques with the best Large Language Models (LLM) are incapable of reasoning about probabilistic scenario programs and generating code for low-resource languages such as Scenic. Our system is comprised of several LLMs chained together with several kinds of prompting strategies, a compiler, and a simulator. We evaluate our system on publicly available autonomous vehicle crash reports in California from the last five years and share insights into how we generate code that is both semantically meaningful and syntactically correct., Comment: 22 pages, 3 figures. The kagome geometry is an example of frustrated configuration in which rich physics takes place, including the emergence of superconductivity and charge density wave (CDW). Among the kagome metals, ScV$_6$Sn$_6$ hosts an unconventional CDW, with its electronic order showing a different periodicity than that of the phonon which generates it. In this material, a CDW-softened flat phonon band has a second-order collapse at the same time that the first order transition occurs. This phonon band originates from the out-of-plane vibrations of the Sc and Sn atoms, and it is at the base of the electron-phonon-coupling driven CDW phase of ScV$_6$Sn$_6$. Here, we use uniaxial strain to tune the frequency of the flat phonon band, tracking the strain evolution via time-resolved optical spectroscopy and first-principles calculations. Recent experiments demonstrate precise control over coherently excited phonon modes using high-intensity terahertz lasers, opening new pathways towards dynamical, ultrafast design of magnetism in functional materials. In this work, we put forward a coupling mechanism based on electron-nuclear quantum geometry. This effect is rooted in the phase accumulation of the electronic wavefunction under a circular evolution of nuclear coordinates. An excitation pulse then induces a transient level splitting between electronic orbitals that carry angular momentum. In reinforcement learning (RL), exploiting environmental symmetries can significantly enhance efficiency, robustness, and performance. However, ensuring that the deep RL policy and value networks are respectively equivariant and invariant to exploit these symmetries is a substantial challenge. Related works try to design networks that are equivariant and invariant by construction, limiting them to a very restricted library of components, which in turn hampers the expressiveness of the networks. This paper proposes a method to construct equivariant policies and invariant value functions without specialized neural network components, which we term equivariant ensembles. We further add a regularization term for adding inductive bias during training. In a map-based path planning case study, we show how equivariant ensembles and regularization benefit sample efficiency and performance., Comment: Accepted at IROS 2024. By applying the Shiba mapping on the two particle level, we derive the relation between the local four-point correlation functions of bipartite lattice models with on-site electronic repulsion and those of the corresponding models with attractive interaction in the most general setting. In particular, we extend the results of [Phys. Rev. B, 101, 155148 (2020)], which were limited to the rather specific situation of the static limit in strictly particle-hole symmetric models, (i) by explicitly including both magnetic field and different values of the chemical potentials, and (ii) by considering the full dependence of the generalized susceptibilities on the transfer (bosonic) Matsubara frequency. The derived formalism is then applied, as a relevant benchmark, to the Hubbard atom, by investigating the general properties of the divergences of its irreducible vertex functions as a function of chemical potential and applied magnetic field. Tunable quantum materials hold great potential for applications. Of special interest are materials in which small lattice strain induces giant electronic responses. The kagome compounds AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, Cs) provide a testbed for such singular electronic states. In this study, through angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we provide comprehensive spectroscopic measurements of the giant responses induced by compressive and tensile strains on the charge-density-wave (CDW) order parameter and high-order van Hove singularity (HO-VHS) in CsV3Sb5. We observe a tripling of the CDW gap magnitudes with ~1% strain, accompanied by the changes of both energy and mass of the saddle-point fermions. Our results reveal an anticorrelation between the unconventional CDW order parameter and the mass of a HO-VHS, and highlight the role of the latter in the superconducting pairing. The giant electronic responses uncover a rich strain tunability of the versatile kagome system in studying quantum interplays under lattice perturbations.

We report the experimental discovery of orbital vortex lines in the three-dimensional (3D) band structure of a topological semimetal. Combining linear and circular dichroism in soft x-ray angle-resolved photoemission (SX-ARPES) with first-principles theory, we image the winding of atomic orbital angular momentum, thereby revealing - and determining the location of - lines of vorticity in full 3D momentum space. Our observation of momentum-space vortex lines with quantized winding number establishes an analogue to real-space quantum vortices, for instance, in type-II superconductors and certain non-collinear magnets. These results establish multimodal dichroism in SX-ARPES as an approach to trace 3D orbital textures. Our present findings particularly constitute the first imaging of non-trivial quantum-phase winding at line nodes and may pave the way to new orbitronic phenomena in quantum materials

MAB phases (MABs) are atomically-thin laminates of ceramic/metallic-like layers, having made a breakthrough in the development of 2D materials. Though theoretically offering a vast chemical and phase space, relatively few MABs have yet been synthesised. To guide experiments, we perform a systematic high-throughput {\it{ab initio}} screening of MABs that combine group 4--7 transition metals (M); Al, Si, Ga, Ge, or In (A); and boron (B) focusing on their phase stability trends and mechanical properties. Considering the 1:1:1, 2:1:1, 2:1:2, 3:1:2, 3:1:3, and 3:1:4 M:A:B ratios and 10 phase prototypes, possible stabilisation of a single-phase compound for each elemental combination is assessed through formation energy spectra of the competing mechanically and dynamically stable MABs. Based on the volumetric proximity of energetically-close phases, we identify systems in which volume-changing deformations may facilitate transformation toughening. Subsequently, chemistry- and phase-structure-related trends in the elastic stiffness and ductility are predicted using elastic-constants-based descriptors. The analysis of directional Cauchy pressures and Young's moduli allows comparing mechanical response parallel and normal to M--B/A layers. Among the suggested most promising MABs are Nb$_3$AlB$_4$, Cr$_2$SiB$_2$, Mn$_2$SiB$_2$ or the already synthesised MoAlB.

We analyze the role of spatial electronic correlations and, in particular, of the magnetic fluctuations in Mott insulators. A half-filled Hubbard model is solved at large strength of the repulsion U on a two-dimensional square lattice using an advanced diagrammatic non-perturbative approach capable of going beyond Hartree-Fock and single-site dynamical mean-field theories. We show that at high temperatures the magnetic fluctuations are weak, and the electronic self-energy of the system is mainly local and is well reproduced by the atomic (Hubbard-I) approximation. Lowering the temperature toward the low-temperature magnetically ordered phase, the non-locality of the self-energy becomes crucial in determining the momentum-dispersion of the Hubbard bands and the Green's function zeros. We therefore establish a precise link between Luttinger surface, non-local correlations and spectral properties of the Hubbard bands.

We introduce a real-space slave rotor theory of the physics of topological Mott insulators, using the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model as an example, and use it to show that a topological gap in the Green function zeros corresponds to a gap in the bulk spinon spectrum and that a zero edge mode corresponds to a spinon edge mode. We then consider an interface between a topological Mott insulator and a conventional topological insulator showing how the spinon edge mode of the topological Mott insulator combines with the spin part of the conventional electron topological edge state leaving a non-Fermi liquid edge mode described by a gapless propagating holon and gapped spinon state. Our work demonstrates the physical meaning of Green function zeros and shows that interfaces between conventional and Mott topological insulators are a rich source of new physics., Comment: 7+5 pages, 4+3 figures

This work aims at expanding previous works done in the context of illegal activities classification, performing three different steps. First, we created a heterogeneous dataset of 113995 onion sites and dark marketplaces. Then, we compared pre-trained transferable models, i.e., ULMFit (Universal Language Model Fine-tuning), Bert (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers), and RoBERTa (Robustly optimized BERT approach) with a traditional text classification approach like LSTM (Long short-term memory) neural networks. Finally, we developed two illegal activities classification approaches, one for illicit content on the Dark Web and one for identifying the specific types of drugs. Results show that Bert obtained the best approach, classifying the dark web's general content and the types of Drugs with 96.08% and 91.98% of accuracy.

Berry phase and the related concept of Berry curvature can give rise to many unconventional phenomena in solids. In this work, we discover colossal orbital Zeeman effect of topological origin in a newly synthesized bilayer kagome metal TbV6Sn6. We use spectroscopic-imaging scanning tunneling microscopy to study the magnetic field induced renormalization of the electronic band structure. The nonmagnetic vanadium d-orbitals form Dirac crossings at the K point with a small mass gap and strong Berry curvature induced by the spin-orbit coupling. We reveal that the magnetic field leads to the splitting of gapped Dirac dispersion into two branches with giant momentum-dependent g factors, resulting in the substantial renormalization of the Dirac band. These measurements provide a direct observation of the magnetic field controlled orbital Zeeman coupling to the enormous orbital magnetic moments of up to 200 Bohr magnetons near the gapped Dirac points. Interestingly, the effect is increasingly non-linear, and becomes gradually suppressed at higher magnetic fields. Theoretical modeling further confirms the existence of orbital magnetic moments in TbV6Sn6 produced by the non-trivial spin-Berry curvature of the Bloch wave functions. Our work provides the first direct insight into the momentum-dependent nature of topological orbital moments and their tunability by magnetic field concomitant with the evolution of the spin-Berry curvature. Significantly large orbital magnetic moments driven by the Berry curvature can also be generated by other quantum numbers beyond spin, such as the valley in certain graphene-based structures, which may be unveiled using the same tools highlighted in our work.

Six-dimensional superconformal field theories (SCFTs) have an atomic classification in terms of elementary building blocks, conformal systems that generalize matter and can be fused together to form all known 6d SCFTs in terms of generalized 6d quivers. It is therefore natural to ask whether 5d SCFTs can be organized in a similar manner, as the outcome of fusions of certain elementary building blocks, which we call 5d conformal matter theories. In this project we begin exploring this idea and we give a systematic construction of 5d generalized ``bifundamental'' SCFTs, building from geometric engineering techniques in M-theory. In particular, we find several examples of $(\mathfrak {e}_6,\mathfrak {e}_6)$, $(\mathfrak {e}_7,\mathfrak {e}_7)$ and $(\mathfrak {e}_8,\mathfrak {e}_8)$ 5d bifundamental SCFTs beyond the ones arising from (elementary) KK reductions of the 6d conformal matter theories. We show that these can be fused together giving rise to 5d SCFTs captured by 5d generalized linear quivers with exceptional gauge groups as nodes, and links given by 5d conformal matter. As a first application of these models we uncover a large class of novel 5d dualites, that generalize the well-known fiber/base dualities outside the toric realm., Comment: 63 pages + Appendices

Doped Mott insulators are the starting point for interesting physics such as high temperature superconductivity and quantum spin liquids. For multi-band Mott insulators, orbital selective ground states have been envisioned. However, orbital selective metals and Mott insulators have been difficult to realize experimentally. Here we demonstrate by photoemission spectroscopy how Ca$_2$RuO$_4$, upon alkali-metal surface doping, develops a single-band metal skin. Our dynamical mean field theory calculations reveal that homogeneous electron doping of Ca$_2$RuO$_4$ results in a multi-band metal. All together, our results provide compelling evidence for an orbital-selective Mott insulator breakdown, which is unachievable via simple electron doping. Supported by a cluster model and cluster perturbation theory calculations, we demonstrate a novel type of skin metal-insulator transition induced by surface dopants that orbital-selectively hybridize with the bulk Mott state and in turn produce coherent in-gap states., Comment: A revised version of this manuscript will appear in Communications Physics

We investigate the quasi-particle and transport properties of a model describing interacting Dirac and Weyl semimetals in the presence of local Hubbard repulsion $U$, where we explicitly include a deviation from the linearity of the energy-momentum dispersion through an intermediate-energy scale $\Lambda$. Our focus lies on the correlated phase of the semimetal. At the nodal point, the renormalization of spectral weight at a fixed temperature $T$ exhibits a weak dependence on $\Lambda$ but is sensitive to the proximity to the Mott transition. Conversely, the scattering rate of quasi-particles and the resistivity display high-temperature exponents that crucially rely on $\Lambda$, leading to a crossover towards a conventional Fermi-liquid behaviour at finite T. Finally, by employing the Nernst-Einstein relation for conductivity, we identify a corresponding density crossover as a function of the chemical potential., Comment: 18 pages, 19 figures, including appendices

We show how the stability conditions for a system of interacting fermions that conventionally involve variations of thermodynamic potentials can be rewritten in terms of one- and two-particle correlators. We illustrate the applicability of this alternative formulation in a multi-orbital model of strongly correlated electrons at finite temperatures, inspecting the lowest eigenvalues of the generalized local charge susceptibility in proximity of the phase-separation region. Additionally to the conventional unstable branches, we address unstable solutions possessing a positive, rather than negative compressibility. Our stability conditions require no derivative of free energy functions with conceptual and practical advantages for actual calculations and offer a clear-cut criterion for analyzing the thermodynamics of correlated complex systems., Comment: 8+8 pages, 3+1 figures

We present the algebra of assume-guarantee (AG) contracts. We define contracts, provide new as well as known operations, and show how these operations are related. Contracts are functorial: any Boolean algebra has an associated contract algebra. We study monoid and semiring structures in contract algebra -- and the mappings between such structures. We discuss the actions of a Boolean algebra on its contract algebra.

In magic angle twisted bilayer graphene, transport, thermodynamic and spectroscopic experiments pinpoint at a competition between distinct low-energy states with and without electronic order. We use Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT) on the topological heavy Fermion (THF) model of twisted bilayer graphene to investigate the emergence of electronic correlations and long-range order in the absence of strain. We contrast moment formation, Kondo screening and ordering on a temperature basis and explain the nature of emergent correlated states based on three central phenomena: (i) the formation of local spin and valley isospin moments around 100K, (ii) the ordering of the local isospin moments around 10K preempting Kondo screening, and (iii) a cascadic redistribution of charge between localized and delocalized electronic states upon doping. At integer fillings, we find that low energy spectral weight is depleted in the symmetric phase, while we find insulating states with gaps enhanced by exchange coupling in the zero-strain ordered phases. Doping away from integer filling results in distinct metallic states: a "bad metal" above the ordering temperature, where scattering off the disordered local moments suppresses electronic coherence, and a "good metal" in the ordered states with coherence of quasiparticles facilitated by isospin order. This finding reveals coherence from order as the microscopic mechanism behind the Pomeranchuk effect observed experimentally. Upon doping, there is a periodic charge reshuffling between localized and delocalized electronic orbitals leading to cascades of doping-induced Lifshitz transitions, local spectral weight redistributions and periodic variations of the electronic compressibility. Coverage path planning (CPP) is a critical problem in robotics, where the goal is to find an efficient path that covers every point in an area of interest. This work addresses the power-constrained CPP problem with recharge for battery-limited unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In this problem, a notable challenge emerges from integrating recharge journeys into the overall coverage strategy, highlighting the intricate task of making strategic, long-term decisions. We propose a novel proximal policy optimization (PPO)-based deep reinforcement learning (DRL) approach with map-based observations, utilizing action masking and discount factor scheduling to optimize coverage trajectories over the entire mission horizon. We further provide the agent with a position history to handle emergent state loops caused by the recharge capability. Our approach outperforms a baseline heuristic, generalizes to different target zones and maps, with limited generalization to unseen maps. We offer valuable insights into DRL algorithm design for long-horizon problems and provide a publicly available software framework for the CPP problem., Comment: This work has been submitted to the IEEE for possible publication

Machine-learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) offer a powerful avenue for simulations beyond length and timescales of ab initio methods. Their development for investigation of mechanical properties and fracture, however, is far from trivial since extended defects -- governing plasticity and crack nucleation in most materials -- are too large to be included in the training set. Using TiB$_2$ as a model ceramic material, we propose a strategy for fitting MLIPs suitable to simulate mechanical response of monocrystals until fracture. Our MLIP accurately reproduces ab initio stresses and failure mechanisms during room-temperature uniaxial tensile deformation of TiB$_2$ at the atomic scale ($\approx{10}^3$ atoms). More realistic tensile tests (low strain rate, Poisson's contraction) at the nanoscale ($\approx{10}^4$--10$^6$ atoms) require MLIP up-fitting, i.e. learning from additional ab initio configurations. Consequently, we elucidate trends in theoretical strength, toughness, and crack initiation patterns under different loading directions. To identify useful environments for further up-fitting, i.e., making the MLIP applicable to a wider spectrum of simulations, we asses transferability to other deformation conditions and phases not explicitly trained on.

Engineering surfaces and interfaces of materials promises great potential in the field of heterostructures and quantum matter designer, with the opportunity of driving new many-body phases that are absent in the bulk compounds. Here, we focus on the magnetic Weyl kagome system Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ and show how for different sample's terminations the Weyl-points connect also differently, still preserving the bulk-boundary correspondence. Scanning-tunnelling microscopy has suggested such a scenario indirectly. Here, we demonstrate this directly for the fermiology of Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$, by linking it to the system real space surfaces distribution. By a combination of micro-ARPES and first-principles calculations, we measure the energy-momentum spectra and the Fermi surfaces of Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ for different surface terminations and show the existence of topological features directly depending on the top-layer electronic environment. Our work helps to define a route to control bulk-derived topological properties by means of surface electrostatic potentials, creating a realistic and reliable methodology to use Weyl kagome metals in responsive magnetic spintronics.

We study the interplay of lattice, spin and orbital degrees of freedom in a two-dimensional model system: a flat square lattice of Te atoms on a Au(100) surface. The atomic structure of the Te monolayer is determined by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and quantitative low-energy electron diffraction (LEED-IV). Using spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and density functional theory (DFT), we observe a Te-Au interface state with highly anisotropic Rashba-type spin-orbit splitting at the X point of the Brillouin zone. Based on a profound symmetry and tight-binding analysis, we show how in-plane square lattice symmetry and broken inversion symmetry at the Te-Au interface together enforce a remarkably anisotropic orbital Rashba effect which strongly modulates the spin splitting., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

A chiplet is an integrated circuit that encompasses a well-defined subset of an overall system's functionality. In contrast to traditional monolithic system-on-chips (SoCs), chiplet-based architecture can reduce costs and increase reusability, representing a promising avenue for continuing Moore's Law. Despite the advantages of multi-chiplet architectures, floorplan design in a chiplet-based architecture has received limited attention. Conflicts between cost and performance necessitate a trade-off in chiplet floorplan design since additional latency introduced by advanced packaging can decrease performance. Consequently, balancing power, performance, cost, area, and reliability is of paramount importance. To address this challenge, we propose Floorplet, a framework comprising simulation tools for performance reporting and comprehensive models for cost and reliability optimization. Our framework employs the open-source Gem5 simulator to establish the relationship between performance and floorplan for the first time, guiding the floorplan optimization of multi-chiplet architecture. Deep neural networks (DNNs) are vulnerable to backdoor attack, which does not affect the network's performance on clean data but would manipulate the network behavior once a trigger pattern is added. Existing defense methods have greatly reduced attack success rate, but their prediction accuracy on clean data still lags behind a clean model by a large margin. Inspired by the stealthiness and effectiveness of backdoor attack, we propose a simple but highly effective defense framework which injects non-adversarial backdoors targeting poisoned samples. Following the general steps in backdoor attack, we detect a small set of suspected samples and then apply a poisoning strategy to them. The non-adversarial backdoor, once triggered, suppresses the attacker's backdoor on poisoned data, but has limited influence on clean data. The defense can be carried out during data preprocessing, without any modification to the standard end-to-end training pipeline. We conduct extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks with different architectures and representative attacks. Results demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art defense effectiveness with by far the lowest performance drop on clean data. Considering the surprising defense ability displayed by our framework, we call for more attention to utilizing backdoor for backdoor defense. We present a major new version of Scenic, a probabilistic programming language for writing formal models of the environments of cyber-physical systems. Scenic has been successfully used for the design and analysis of CPS in a variety of domains, but earlier versions are limited to environments which are essentially two-dimensional. In this paper, we extend Scenic with native support for 3D geometry, introducing new syntax which provides expressive ways to describe 3D configurations while preserving the simplicity and readability of the language. We replace Scenic's simplistic representation of objects as boxes with precise modeling of complex shapes, including a ray tracing-based visibility system that accounts for object occlusion. We also extend the language to support arbitrary temporal requirements expressed in LTL, and build an extensible Scenic parser generated from a formal grammar of the language. At thermal equilibrium, we find that generalized susceptibilities encoding the static physical response properties of Hermitian many-electron systems possess inherent non-Hermitian (NH) matrix symmetries. This leads to the generic occurrence of exceptional points (EPs), i.e., NH spectral degeneracies, in the generalized susceptibilities of prototypical Fermi-Hubbard models, as a function of a single parameter such as chemical potential. We demonstrate that these EPs are necessary to promote correlation-induced thermodynamic instabilities, such as phase-separation occurring in the proximity of a Mott transition, to a topologically stable phenomenon., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, suppl. mat

Deriving system-level specifications from component specifications usually involves the elimination of variables that are not part of the interface of the top-level system. This paper presents algorithms for eliminating variables from formulas by computing refinements or relaxations of these formulas in a context. We discuss a connection between this problem and optimization and give efficient algorithms to compute refinements and relaxations of linear inequality constraints.

Kagome materials have emerged as a setting for emergent electronic phenomena that encompass different aspects of symmetry and topology. It is debated whether the XV$_6$Sn$_6$ kagome family (where X is a rare earth element), a recently discovered family of bilayer kagome metals, hosts a topologically non-trivial ground state resulting from the opening of spin-orbit coupling gaps. These states would carry a finite spin-Berry curvature, and topological surface states. Here, we investigate the spin and electronic structure of the XV$_6$Sn$_6$ kagome family. We obtain evidence for a finite spin-Berry curvature contribution at the center of the Brillouin zone, where the nearly flat band detaches from the dispersing Dirac band because of spin-orbit coupling. In addition, the spin-Berry curvature is further investigated in the charge density wave regime of ScV$_6$Sn$_6$, and it is found to be robust against the onset of the temperature-driven ordered phase. Utilizing the sensitivity of angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy to the spin and orbital angular momentum, our work unveils the spin-Berry curvature of topological kagome metals, and helps to define its spectroscopic fingerprint., Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures
