Abstract The synthesis of sequence-regulated oligosulfates has not yet been established due to the difficulties in precise reactivity control. In this work, we report an example of a multi-directional divergent iterative method to furnish oligosulfates based on a chain homologation approach, in which the fluorosulfate unit is regenerated. The oligosulfate sequences are determined by high resolution mass spectrometry of the hydrolyzed fragments, and polysulfate periodic copolymers are synthesized by using oligomeric bisfluorosulfates in a bi-directional fashion. The synthetic utility of this iterative ligation is demonstrated by preparing crosslinked network polymers as synthetic adhesive materials.

This article introduces a frequency-adaptive control strategy for a three-phase shunt active power filter, aimed at improving energy efficiency and ensuring high power quality in consumer-oriented power systems. The proposed control system utilizes real-time frequency estimation to dynamically adjust the gain of a proportional-integral–resonant (PIR) controller, facilitating precise harmonic compensation under challenging unbalanced grid conditions, such as unbalanced three-phase loads, grid impedance variations, and diverse nonlinear loads like three-phase rectifiers and induction motors. These scenarios often increase total harmonic distortion (THD) at the point of common coupling (PCC), degrading the performance of connected loads and reducing the efficiency of induction motors. The PIR controller integrates both proportional-integral (PI) and proportional-resonant (PR) control features, achieving improved stability and reduced overshoot. A novel voltage sensorless control method is proposed, requiring only current measurements to determine reference currents for the inverter, thereby simplifying the implementation. Validation of the frequency adaptive control scheme through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and real-time experiments on a dSPACE (DS1202) platform demonstrates significant improvements in harmonic compensation, energy efficiency, and system stability across varying grid frequencies. This approach offers a robust consumer-oriented solution for managing power quality, positioning the SAPF as a key technology for advancing sustainable energy management in smart applications.

Over the past few years, earth-abundant transition metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation has emerged as an ideal strategy for the synthesis of organosilanes. The success in this area of research has expanded to the advancements of alkyne dihydrosilylation reactions, offering broadened synthetic applications through the selective installation of two silyl groups. In particular, catalysts based on Fe, Co, and Ni have engendered enabling platforms for mild transformations with a range of distinct regioselectivity. This mini-review summarizes recent advances in this research field, highlighting the unique features of each system from both synthetic and mechanistic perspectives.

As free-form panel production takes a long time, it extends the construction period and increases construction expenses. This study suggests a method to apply radiant heat to concrete for the purpose of shortening the curing and removal process in free-form panel production. The optimal temperature and time for removal are determined based on the results of constant temperature/humidity curing experiments and quartz tube heater curing experiments. Through an experiment in various time settings, the general time of FCP (Free-form Concrete Panel) production is measured to examine whether the productivity is enhanced. It is expected that findings of this study contribute to shortening the construction period and reducing construction expenses as well as future studies on the FCP manufacturing equipment.

Ribosomes have evolved to polymerize L-α-amino acids into proteins comprising a peptide backbone. Here, a pyridazinone backbone is formed using ribosomes in vitro, producing a variety of sequence-defined alternating block-copolymers.

In tactical environments, mobility has a significant impact on the performance such as handover delay. In this paper, we design and implement an integrated tactical mobility testbed that consists of (1) host identify protocol module for secure initial registration, (2) Proxy Mobile IPv6-based distributed mobility management module for infrastructure-based mobility cases, and (3) delay/disruption tolerant networking module for opportunistic mobility cases. The implementation and experimental results demonstrate that the integrated testbed can be used to consider diverse tactical mobility scenarios and to evaluate the handover performance.

Cyclic amines are commonly present in natural products and synthetic compounds, but methods for their skeletal diversification are limited. Here, the authors report a strategy for selective ring-opening functionalization of unstrained cyclic amines to pluripotent products that can be further diversified.

In this study, we evaluated the performance of low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant R1234yf on the activated carbon (MSC-30) for adsorption heating applications. The adsorption isotherms of MSC-30/R1234yf were measured using a constant-volume–variable-pressure (CVVP) method from very low relative pressure to the practical operating ranges. The data were fitted with several isotherm models using non-linear curve fitting. An improved equilibrium model was employed to investigate the influence of dead thermal masses, i.e., the heat exchanger assembly and the non-adsorbing part of the adsorbent. The model employed the model for the isosteric heat of adsorption where the adsorbed phase volume was accounted for. The performance of the heat pump was compared with MSC-30/R134a pair using the data from the literature. The analysis covered the desorption temperature ranging from 60 °C to 90 °C, with the evaporation temperature at 5 °C and the adsorption temperature and condensation temperature set to 30 °C. It was observed that the adsorption isotherms of R1234yf on MSC-30 were relatively lower than those of R134a by approximately 12%. The coefficient of performance (COP) of the selected pair was found to vary from 0.03 to 0.35 depending on the heat source temperature. We demonstrated that due to lower latent heat, MSC-30/R1234yf pair exhibits slightly lower cycle performance compared to the MSC-30/R134a pair. However, the widespread adaptation of environmentally friendly R1234yf in automobile heat pump systems may call for the implementation of adsorption systems such as the direct hybridization using a single refrigerant. The isotherm and performance data presented in this work will be essential for such applications.

Isolated quantum many-body systems with integrable dynamics generically do not thermalize when taken far from equilibrium. As one perturbs such systems away from the integrable point, thermalization sets in, but the nature of the crossover from integrable to thermalizing behavior is an unresolved and actively discussed question. We explore this question by studying the dynamics of the momentum distribution function in a dipolar quantum Newton’s cradle consisting of highly magnetic dysprosium atoms. This is accomplished by creating the first one-dimensional Bose gas with strong magnetic dipole-dipole interactions. These interactions provide tunability of both the strength of the integrability-breaking perturbation and the nature of the near-integrable dynamics. We provide the first experimental evidence that thermalization close to a strongly interacting integrable point occurs in two steps: prethermalization followed by near-exponential thermalization. Exact numerical calculations on a two-rung lattice model yield a similar two-timescale process, suggesting that this is generic in strongly interacting near-integrable models. Moreover, the measured thermalization rate is consistent with a parameter-free theoretical estimate, based on identifying the types of collisions that dominate thermalization. By providing tunability between regimes of integrable and nonintegrable dynamics, our work sheds light on the mechanisms by which isolated quantum many-body systems thermalize and on the temporal structure of the onset of thermalization.

In our preliminary study, we proposed a smartphone-integrated, unobtrusive electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring system, Sinabro, which monitors a user’s ECG opportunistically during daily smartphone use without explicit user intervention. The proposed system also monitors ECG-derived features, such as heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV), to support the pervasive healthcare apps for smartphones based on the user’s high-level contexts, such as stress and affective state levels. In this study, we have extended the Sinabro system by: (1) upgrading the sensor device; (2) improving the feature extraction process; and (3) evaluating extensions of the system. We evaluated these extensions with a good set of algorithm parameters that were suggested based on empirical analyses. The results showed that the system could capture ECG reliably and extract highly accurate ECG-derived features with a reasonable rate of data drop during the user’s daily smartphone use.
