Objective: The aim of this study was to explore problematic behaviors and their association with the food consumption and nutritional status of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)., Methods: This is a cross-sectional study which enrolled 90 Brazilian children (aged 2-10 years) with ASD. A sociodemographic questionnaire, the ASD Eating Behavior Assessment Scale, and the 24-h recall were used. Age, height, total body weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI) were accessed to estimate nutritional status (BMI/Age). Consumption of fruits, vegetables, total calories, macro and micronutrients (calcium, iron, zinc, omega 3 and omega 6), and Body Mass Index (BMI) were assessed. The regression models were adjusted for covariates (prevalence ratio - PR, α =  0.05)., Results: All studied children presented problematic behaviors at mealtimes, with a predominance of food selectivity (57.8%), followed by changes in mealtime skills (34.4%), changes in masticatory motor skills (25.6%), oppositional eating behaviors (20.4%), and rigid eating behaviors (20.0%). Food selectivity was associated with excess body weight (PR: 1.94; 95% CI: 1.08-3.51) and absence of vegetable consumption (PR: 0.61; 95% CI: 0.46-0.81). Rigid eating behaviors was associated with low consumption of fiber (PR: 1.42; 95% CI: 1.15-1.75) and zinc (PR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.33-3.45), and with excessive caloric (PR: 1.14; 95% CI: 1.02-1.29) and lower calcium intake (PR: 0.52; 95% CI: 0.29-0.91)., Conclusion: Selectivity and rigidity behaviors have different relationships with food consumption and are associated with a higher prevalence of inadequacies, which may lead to nutritional risks for children. Increased attention is being focused on the biological control of agricultural pests using microorganisms, owing to their potential as a viable substitute for chemical control methods. Insect cadavers constitute a potential source of entomopathogenic microorganisms. We tested whether bacteria and fungi isolated from Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith) cadavers could affect its survival, development, egg-laying pattern, and hatchability, as well as induce mortality in Anthonomus grandis Boheman adults. We isolated the bacteria Enterobacter hormaechei and Serratia marcescens and the fungi Scopulariopsis sp. and Aspergillus nomiae from fall armyworm cadavers and the pest insects were subjected to an artificial diet enriched with bacteria cells or fungal spores to be tested, in the case of S. frugiperda, and only fungal spores in the case of A. grandis. Enterobacter hormaechei and A. nomiae were pathogenic to S. frugiperda, affecting the survival of adults and pupae. The fungus Scopulariopsis sp. does not affect the survival of S. frugiperda caterpillars and pupae; however, due to late action, moths and eggs may be affected. Aspergillus nomiae also increased mortality of A. grandis adults, as well as the development of S. frugiperda in the early stages of exposure to the diet, as indicated by the vertical spore transfer to offspring and low hatchability. Enterobacter hormaechei and A. nomiae are potential biocontrol agents for these pests, and warrant further investigation from a toxicological point of view and subsequently in field tests involving formulations that could improve agricultural sustainability practices., (© 2024. Objective: To identify factors associated with permission for child vaccination in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic., Method: Cross-sectional study, with parents/guardians of children aged up to 1 year, 11 months and 29 days, aged 18 years or older, with internet access and residents of the state of Alagoas. The collection was conducted between June 2021 and April 2022, using a structured instrument via Google forms®. Fisher's Exact and Pearson's chi-square statistical tests were used., Results: A total of 94 parents/guardians participated. There was an association between permission for child vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic and higher education level of parents/guardians, with the lack of an educational bond with the child, and between parents/guardians who would allow the application of the COVID-19 vaccine., Conclusion: Permission for child vaccination in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with higher education level of parents/guardians and the absence of educational bond of the child.

Introduction: Bacteriophages infecting human pathogens have been considered potential biocontrol agents, and studying their genetic content is essential to their safe use in the food industry. Tequatrovirus ufvareg1 is a bacteriophage named UFV-AREG1, isolated from cowshed wastewater and previously tested for its ability to inhibit Escherichia coli O157:H7., Methods: T. ufvareg 1 was previously isolated using E. coli O157:H7 (ATCC 43895) as a bacterial host. The same strain was used for bacteriophage propagation and the one-step growth curve. The genome of the T. ufvareg1 was sequenced using 305 Illumina HiSeq, and the genome comparison was calculated by VIRIDIC and VIPTree., Results: Here, we characterize its genome and compare it to other Tequatrovirus . T. ufvareg1 virions have an icosahedral head (114 x 86 nm) and a contracted tail (117 x 23 nm), with a latent period of 25 min, and an average burst size was 18 phage particles per infected E. coli cell. The genome of the bacteriophage T. ufvareg1 contains 268 coding DNA sequences (CDS) and ten tRNA genes distributed in both negative and positive strains. T. ufvareg1 genome also contains 40 promoters on its regulatory regions and two rho-independent terminators. T. ufvareg1 shares an average intergenomic similarity (VIRIDC) of 88.77% and an average genomic similarity score (VipTree) of 88.91% with eight four reference genomes for Tequatrovirus available in the NCBI RefSeq database. The pan-genomic analysis confirmed the high conservation of Tequatrovirus genomes. Among all CDS annotated in the T. ufvareg1 genome, there are 123 core genes, 38 softcore genes, 94 shell genes, and 13 cloud genes. Sporothrix brasiliensis with low susceptibility isolates were described from the Brazilian zoonotic sporotrichosis hyperendemics. The aim of this work was to evaluate distinct fractions of Ocotea pulchella, Ocotea notata, Myrciaria floribunda, and Hypericum brasiliense plant extracts against itraconazole-sensitive and low susceptibility S. brasiliensis isolates. Crude extracts were tested against clinical isolates and the ATCC MYA4823 to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and fungicidal or fungistatic activities (MFC). A high MICs and MFCs amplitude (1 - > 128 µg/mL) were obtained for seven extracts. The highest antimicrobial activities against sensitive S. brasiliensis were displayed by the ethyl acetate extracts of O. notata (MIC = 2-128 μg/mL) and M. floribunda (MIC = 1-8 μg/mL). A fungicidal effect was observed for all fraction extracts. Ocotea spp. and M. floribunda ethyl acetate extracts provide promising profiles against itraconazole-sensitive or low susceptibility S. brasiliensis. Future studies will determine if these extracts can contribute as alternative therapies to this neglected zoonosis., (© 2023. Despite proven scientific quality of menstrual blood mesenchymal cells, research and science output using those cells is still incipient, which suggests there is a resistance to the study of this type of cell by scientists, and a lack of attention to its potential for cell therapy, regenerative medicine and bioengineering. This study analyzes the literature about the menstrual blood mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (mbMSC) on the PubMed database between 2008-2020 and the social attention it received on Twitter. A comparative analysis showed that mbMSC accounts for a very small portion of mesenchymal cell research (0.25%). Most first authors are women (53.2%), whereas most last authors are men (63.74%), reinforcing an already known, and still significant, gender gap between last and corresponding authors. Menstrual blood tends to be less used in experiments and its scientific value tends to be underestimated, which brings gender bias to a technical and molecular level. Objective: To describe the profile of tuberculosis cases and analyze the temporal trend of tuberculosis incidence rate in Santa Catarina, by sex, from 2010 to 2019., Methods: This was a time series study conducted using data from the Notifiable Health Conditions Information System (SINAN). The Prais-Winsten regression model was used., Results: There were 16,446 new cases of tuberculosis. Most cases occurred in males (68.5%), people aged 20 to 49 years (70.3%), in Greater Florianópolis (25.1%) and in individuals with incomplete elementary education (40.0%). A falling trend in tuberculosis incidence rates was found for males (APC: -1.86%; 95%CI -2.68;-1.03), females (APC: -1.92%; 95%CI -2.63;-1.20) and both sexes (APC: -1.77%; 95%CI -2.37;-1.17)., Conclusion: In the decade analyzed, there was a significant reduction in the tuberculosis incidence rate in Santa Catarina, in both sexes. There was a predominance of males, people of economically active age and with low schooling.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by variants in the gene that encodes phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), limiting the metabolism of phenylalanine (Phe). When PAH activity is absent or hindered, Phe is not converted to tyrosine, leading to an accumulation of Phe in the blood, which can cause serious neurological complications. Once PKU is diagnosed, treatment should be started immediately, and the basis for this is dietary restriction of foods with high levels of Phe, associated with the use of protein substitutes and intake of foods with low protein content. This restriction accompanies patients throughout their lives, making their diets unpalatable and monotonous, which represents a major challenge for health professionals and patients, considering that these factors favor food transgression. In this context, the objective of this work was to carry out an integrative review based on evidence regarding the intake of fruits and vegetables, by phenylketonurics, taking into account the greater or lesser tolerance to Phe. Since, some researchers have dedicated themselves to evaluating the biochemical effect of unrestricted consumption of fruits and vegetables at PKU, unifying the information in this regard. It was observed that the intake of vegetable protein by patients with PKU has shown to be promising since the studies indicate that the intake of these proteins does not present adverse effects to the metabolic control of the Phe.

Objective: To characterize the situation of breastfeeding and the adequacy of prescription of infant formulas to infants assisted by a secondary care program of the Public Health System., Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with analysis of medical records of 350 infants from zero to 6 months, followed up between February to April 2019., Results: The possibility of breastfeeding was present in 97.0% of mothers and no infant presented an acceptable medical condition for proscription of breastfeeding. Despite this, only 47.2% of cases were on exclusive breastfeeding before being referred to the program. Regarding the reasons for the introduction of infant formulas, complementation to breast milk was the most present (75.8%), followed by mothers returning to the job market (20.1%). The general rates of inadequacy of those prescribed were 65% before arriving at the program, increasing to 69% (standard formulas) and 80% (formulas for special purposes) during follow-up., Conclusion: The low rate of exclusive breastfeeding and the indiscriminate prescription of infant formulas are a concern for damage to maternal-child healthcare and sound finances of the Public Health System.

Objectives: to compare adverse events after administrating hepatitis A vaccine intramuscularly in the ventro-gluteal region between techniques with and without aspiration., Methods: randomized double-blind clinical trial, using hepatitis A vaccine (inactivated) in the ventro-gluteal region, with a sample of 74 participants in the intervention group, vaccinated with the slow injection technique without aspiration, and 74 participants in the control group undergoing slow injection with aspiration. Daily assessment of participants was carried out in the 72 hours after vaccination, in order to ascertain local, systemic adverse events, local and contralateral temperatures., Results: the occurrence of local and systemic adverse events was homogeneous between the groups in the three days after vaccination (p>0.05). There was no influence of sex, race, pre-existing disease and use of medication., Conclusions: the intramuscular vaccination technique without aspiration in the ventro-gluteal region is safe for adverse events following immunization compared to the conventional technique with aspiration.

Objective: To correlate nine facial anthropometric measurements with the readiness for oral feeding of late preterm newborns using an orogastric tube., Methods: Observational study, carried out in two institutions in Maceió, Alagoas. Fifty-two newborns participated. A single measuring of nine facial measurements and daily measuring of the interface area for fixing the tube was performed. For readiness assessment, the Premature Oral Feeding Readiness Assessment Scale was used., Results: An average readiness of 28.81 (± 3.18) was observed in the first evaluation and 30.65 (± 3.23) in the second. Most facial measurements are correlated with weight. There was a positive and slight correlation between glabella-subnasale distance and readiness. No correlation was observed between the area of the tube fixation interface and facial measurements., Conclusion: It is concluded that the glabella-subnasale measurement is positively correlated with the readiness for oral feeding in late preterm newborns who used an orogastric tube for feeding.

Objective: To correlate the biometric measurements of the nasal area of premature and term newborns to provide parameters for a nasal protector model., Method: A crosssectional descriptive study, carried out in the neonatal joint accommodation, intermediate and intensive care units of a hospital in Maceio, Alagoas, with a total of 300 newborns, divided into two groups: 150 term and 150 premature. Neonatal history data and 1200 digital photographs were used for biometric measurements., Results: The groups were homogeneous regarding gender, weight and length of the newborn. The measurements of nasal width, distance from the wing of the nose to the right and left columella midline, right and left nasal introitus area, length of the right and left nasal dorsum were different when compared in groups according to gestational age and weight ranges - very low weight, low weight and appropriate weight for gestational age (p<0.05)., Conclusion: The data obtained provide parameters for creating a nasal protector for newborns using prongs, considering anatomical aspects.

Objective: To evaluate the use of biofeedback intervention in the levels of depression. The main hypothesis tested if the use of biofeedback improves depression levels compared to the control group., Methods: A randomised clinical trial. The final sample was composed of 36 participants (18 in the experimental group, receiving 6 training, once a week, with biofeedback; and 18 in the control group, who received conventional treatment in the service).Outcome measures were assessed in two stages: pre-test and post-test. The research used the following instruments: demographic survey data, Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview 5.0.0 and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The factors and variables were presented in terms of descriptive and inferential statistics. Fisher's exact test (p < 0.05) was used to verify the existence of an association between the counting variables. The multinomial logistic regression model was adopted, and the Logit link function was used, as the software RStudio version 3.6.2., Results: The factors that remained in the final model were group, sex, partner, atypical antidepressant, benzodiazepines, mood stabiliser, antiepileptic and antihistamine, according to the levels of depression based on the BDI. The group that did not receive biofeedback intervention had 16 times more chances of increasing the depression levels compared to participants in the experimental group., Conclusion: The use of biofeedback reduces depression, thus, representing a complementary alternative for the treatment of moderate and severe depression, and dysthymia.

Modern sensors deployed in most Industry 4.0 applications are intelligent, meaning that they present sophisticated behavior, usually due to embedded software, and network connectivity capabilities. For that reason, the task of calibrating an intelligent sensor currently involves more than measuring physical quantities. As the behavior of modern sensors depends on embedded software, comprehensive assessments of such sensors necessarily demands the analysis of their embedded software. On the other hand, interlaboratory comparisons are comparative analyses of a body of labs involved in such assessments. While interlaboratory comparison is a well-established practice in fields related to physical, chemical and biological sciences, it is a recent challenge for software assessment. Establishing quantitative metrics to compare the performance of software analysis and testing accredited labs is no trivial task. Software is intangible and its requirements accommodate some ambiguity, inconsistency or information loss. Besides, software testing and analysis are highly human-dependent activities. In the present work, we investigate whether performing interlaboratory comparisons for software assessment by using quantitative performance measurement is feasible. The proposal was to evaluate the competence in software code analysis activities of each lab by using two quantitative metrics (code coverage and mutation score). Our results demonstrate the feasibility of establishing quantitative comparisons among software analysis and testing accredited laboratories. One of these rounds was registered as formal proficiency testing in the database-the first registered proficiency testing focused on code analysis.

Objective: Measure umbilical cord pulsatility time and evaluate correlation/association with maternal and neonatal characteristics., Method: Cross-sectional study, with 76 binomials, carried out in 2017, in a maternity hospital in Alagoas. Analysis with Pearson or Spearman correlation test and Mann-Whitney or Kruskal-Wallis test., Results: Sixty-two parturients and their newborns participated of the research. The women had a gestational age ≥ 37 weeks, natural cephalic birth, without distortions. The newborns had average weight of 3326.29g, mostly male. The umbilical cord pulsatility time was 285.48s. There is a correlation between umbilical cord pulsatility time and placental delivery time (p<0.001). Other correlations/associations were not significant., Conclusion: It suggested using a correlation between pulsatility time and placental delivery time in clinical decision making for good practices in childbirth assistance.

In the maritime sector, the integration of radar systems, Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) through digital technologies enables several benefits to maritime operations, but also make ships prone to cyberattacks. In this context, this work investigates the feasibility of an attacker using a radar system or AIS as open door to remotely send commands to a cyber threat hosted on a ship, even if the ship's systems are air gapped-i.e., are not connected to other networks. The received commands are intended to trigger a cyber threat located in the ship. Although the literature covers several analyzes on cyber risks and vulnerabilities in naval systems, it lacks exploiting mechanisms capable of acknowledging attack commands received through radar and AIS. To this end, this work proposes a triggering mechanism that uses a template matching technique to detect specific patterns transmitted by the attacker to the ship's radar or AIS. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed technique as a tool to acknowledge the received attack commands and activate a malicious code previously installed on the ship. In the case of attacks on a radar system, the accuracy achieved by the proposed method is 0.90. In the case of attacks on an AIS/ECDIS setup it presents an accuracy of 0.93. In both cases the proposed mechanism maintains the due safety against accidental attack activations.

Objective: To develop an anatomical nasal protector for newborns using prongs., Method: A descriptive study and technological production based on the Product Development Process, which involved informational design, conceptual design and detailed design phases, between March 2017 and February 2019., Results: The design and materialization of nasal protectors were achieved in hydrocolloid plates. These were reprocessed by five sterilization methods: ultraviolet and gamma radiation, gaseous formaldehyde, hydrogen peroxide plasma and saturated steam under pressure. Microbiological tests indicated bacterial growth after processing by formaldehyde and ultraviolet radiation. Gamma radiation guaranteed the sterility and stability of the material., Conclusion: Three classifications of nasal hydrocolloid protectors were achieved after the tests, with safe and promising characteristics to continue studies aiming at the clinical evaluation in newborns using prongs.

A new selective adsorbent based on magnetic molecularly imprinted conducting polymer was firstly synthetized and applied to the magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) for the determination of PZQ enantiomers in milk samples. The enantioselective separation was performed on a Chiralpak® IB column using mobile phase composed of ultrapure water : tetrahydrofuran : diethylamine (65 : 35 : 0.05, v/v/v). After MSPE optimization, in which a magnetic molecularly imprinted polypyrrole (MMIPPy) was used as adsorbent, the best conditions were: 500 μL of acetonitrile as eluent, 75 mg of MMPPy, 1000 μL of milk sample (pH adjusted to 6.5.). The analyses showed recoveries/relative standard deviation (RSD%) 79.7 ± 2.5 and 81.1 ± 2.2 for (R)-(-)-PZQ and (S)-(+)-PZQ, respectively. By computational study carried out on the molecular design of the synthesized MMIPPy, it was found that the formation of four hydrogen bonds and one π-π stacking interaction explain the formation of the PZQ-pyrrole pre-polymerization complex at the molecular level. From the analytical validation, the developed method showed to be linear in the concentration range of 0.01 to 10 μg mL-1, with correlation coefficient larger than 0.98 and RSD% values below 15%. The LOQ obtained was 0.01 μg mL-1 for both enantiomers, with RSD% and relative error below 20%. The method was successfully applied in real sheep milk samples from various local suppliers. Finally, the results showed that MMIPPy in MSPE is an economical, simple and easy-to-perform technique.

In this work a hollow mesoporous structured molecularly imprinted polymer was synthetized and used as adsorbent in pipette-tip solid-phase extraction for the determination of lamivudine (3TC), zidovudine (AZT) and efavirenz (EFZ) from plasma of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). All parameters that influence the recovery of the pipette tip based on hollow mesoporous molecularly imprinted polymer solid-phase extraction (PT-HM-MIP-SPE) method were systematically studied and discussed in detail. The adsorbent material was prepared using methacrylic acid and 4-vinylpyridine as functional monomers, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker, acetonitrile as solvent, 4,4'-azobis(4-cyanovaleric acid) as radical initiator, benzalkonium chloride as surfactant, 3TC, and AZT as templates. The simultaneous separation of 3TC, AZT and EFZ by HPLC-UV was performed using a Gemini C18 Phenomenex® column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) and mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile: water pH 3.2 (68:32, v/v), flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and λ = 260 nm. The method was linear over the concentration range from 0.25 to 10 μg/mL for 3TC and EFZ, and 0.05 to 2.0 μg mL -1 for AZT, with correlation coefficients larger than 0.99 for all analytes. Recovery ± relative standard deviations (RSDs %) were 41.99 ± 2.38%, 82.29 ± 1.63%, and 83.72 ± 7.52% for 3TC, AZT, and EFZ, respectively. The RSDs and relative errors (REs) were lower than 15% for intra and interday assays. A simple HPLC method was developed for the determination of abamectin (ABA), eprinomectin (EPR), and moxidectin (MOX). Pipette-tip molecularly imprinted polymer solid-phase extraction (PT-MIP-SPE) using poly(1-vinylimidazole-co-trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate) as a selective adsorbent material was studied in detail, including the washing solvent, type and volume of eluent, pH, quantity of adsorbent material and sample volume. The performance criteria for linearity, sensitivity, precision, accuracy, recovery, robustness and stability have been assessed and were within the recommended guidelines. The mean extraction recoveries/relative standard deviation for ABA 1b, EPR, ABA 1a and MOX were 98.77 ± 3.82%, 88.19 ± 2.57%, 110.54 ± 1.52% and 100.42 ± 0.59%, respectively. Finally, the results proved that PT-MIP-SPE coupled to HPLC-UV is an economical, simple and easy-to-perform technique, and presented a high potential for extraction of macrocyclic lactones in mineral water and grape and juice samples., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. The aim of this study is to investigate the bacterial population in coalho goat cheese produced in the semi-arid northeast region of Brazil, to analyse the antibiotic resistance profiles of the identified pathogenic bacteria, to detect the staphylococcal enterotoxin genes and to evaluate the addition of autochthonous lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with technofunctional properties for the control of Staphylococcus aureus growth. In the analysed samples, strains of Escherichia coli ( N =11), Salmonella spp. ( N =18), Listeria spp. ( N =6) and S. aureus ( N =9) were classified as multidrug resistant (MDR). The most commonly isolated pathogen from the studied coalho goat cheese was S. aureus . Its isolates were positive for the genes encoding enterotoxins A ( sea ), B ( seb ), C ( sec ) and D ( sed ). The autochthonous LAB with the potential to inhibit S. aureus were identified as Enterococcus faecium. These strains were selected for in vitro tests of protective, safety, technological and functional properties. In the coalho goat cheese food matrix, these selected autochthonous LAB were able to reduce the enterotoxigenic MDR S. aureus load by approx. 3 log units.

In this work, we developed a HPLC method for the multidetermination of avermectins (AVM) (abamectin-ABA 1b and ABA 1a, eprinomectin-EPR, and ivermectin-IVM) and milbemycins (moxidectin-MOX) in milk samples using polypyrrole (PPy) as adsorbent material in pipette-tip solid-phase extraction (PT-PPy-SPE). PPy was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction and the data agreed with the literature. The sample preparation included the clean-up of the milk by protein precipitation (PP) with acetonitrile and extraction of the analytes by PT-PPy-SPE. The chromatographic method was developed in reverse phase and isocratic mode with flow rate at 1.2 mL min -1 and ultraviolet detection at 250 nm. The mobile phase composition was acetonitrile:methanol:water (55:25:20, v/v/v). The studied parameters and the optimized conditions for the sample preparation were washing solvent (300 μL water), volume and type of eluent (500 μL methanol), volume and pH of sample (1 mL and pH 10), amount of adsorbent material (50 mg PPy), and without addition of salt (NaCl). The method was linear over the concentration range from 20 to 3000 ng mL -1 with coefficients of correlation (r) ≥ 0.99 for all analytes and recoveries around 100%. The method developed and validated was used for the analyses of real milk samples from cow treated with Ivomec ® (IVM 3.5%), in which were found 21.51 ± 2.94 ng mL -1 of IVM. Finally, the results proved that PT-PPy-SPE coupled to HPLC-UV was economical, simple, and easy-to-perform technique. Background: Plants of the genus Campomanesia belong to the family Myrtaceae and are very abundant in Cerrado areas. Teas from leaves of species of this genus are used for intestinal infections, combating obesity, stomach pathology, fever and among others., Objective: The present study evaluated the chemical composition and antioxidant potential, cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of ethanolic extract from leaves of Campomanesia pubescens (Mart. ex DC.) O.Berg., Method: For the evaluation of antioxidant activity, the free radical DPPH and for determination of phenolic compounds Folin-Ciocalteau reagent were used. Identification of the substances was performed by HPLC-DAD by comparison of the retention times with standards analyzed under the same conditions and by evaluation of molecular absorption spectra in the ultraviolet and visible region. The cytotoxicity, genotoxicity were evaluated using Allium cepa bioassay., Results: In the ethanolic extract 7-hydroxy-6-methyl-5-methoxyflavanone, 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methylflavanone, 5,7-dihydroxy-8-methylflavanone, 2´,4´-dihydroxy-6´-methoxychalcone, 5,7-dihydroxy-6,8- dimethylflavanone, 2´,4´-dihydroxy-5´-methyl-6´-methoxychalcone and 2´,4´-dihydroxy-3´,5´-dimethyl-6´- methoxychalcone were identified. Introduction: The head and neck are the second most common locations for pain among HIV-positive individuals. Most studies were conducted among HIV patients at an advanced stage of the disease., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Patients with HIV and CD4+ T lymphocyte counts >500 were included. Semi-structured interview, the Headache Impact Test (HIT-6), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale were used., Results: Of the 119 cases included, 63% were men. The mean age was 35.5 ± 10.4 years. Among the patients, 103 (87%) had headaches, 53 (45%) had migraines, 50 (42%) had tension-type headaches, and 53 (45%) had substantial and severe impact of headaches. Eleven patients had headaches that started after they had been diagnosed with HIV. These patients had more migraines (72% vs 43%; P < 0.05), greater intensity (8 ± 2 vs 6 ± 2; P < 0.01), and impact (HIT-6: 60 ± 11 vs 51 ± 12; P = 0.02) of headaches compared to others HIV patients. There were no correlations between CD4 counts and the intensity, frequency, or impact of headaches., Conclusions: HIV-positive patients had a high frequency of headaches, which had a great impact on patients' lives. Purpose: The application of active video games (AVGs) during cardiac rehabilitation (CR) sessions could potentially facilitate patient adherence. The feasibility, safety, and efficacy of in-class AVG supplementation as an alternative to conventional phase 2 programs were investigated., Methods: A pilot, evaluator-blinded, intention-to-treat, randomized controlled trial recruited 32 low-moderate risk CR participants and allocated them to conventional or AVG-supplemented exercise. Both groups experienced equal exercise loads for 6 weeks. Patients were assessed at baseline, end of the program, and after an 8-week followup. Adherence and safety-related outcomes were the primary endpoints. Secondary outcomes included change in exercise capacity, daily physical activity (PA), energy expenditure (EE), and psychometric profiling., Results: Patients (males 81%; 60 ± 10 years) presented with typical cardiovascular risk factors and similar baseline characteristics. Participants did not perceive an increased risk of injury and were more interactive. At the end of the program, there was a lower tendency for dropping out (6% vs 19%, P > .05), a significant improvement in PA (322 vs 247 arbitrary acceleration units/min, P = .047) and related EE per body weight (13 vs 11 kcal/kg/d, P = .04) among AVG participants compared with controls. No significant differences between groups for adverse medical events, exercise capacity, affect toward exercise, anxiety, depression, or quality-of-life changes were reported., Conclusions: The additional use of AVGs during CR sessions is feasible, safe, and significantly improved daily PA and EE. A dropout reduction trend among its users, which needs to be confirmed in a larger trial, raises awareness to AVG supplementation as a promising strategy to increase CR adherence.
