Adriana Bisi Fabbri (Ferrara, 1881 – Travedona Monate, 1918) risked being remembered by artistic historiography especially as a cousin of the painter Umberto Boccioni and the wife of the journalist and writer Giannetto Bisi. Only recently, also thanks to the study and organization of his archive deposited at the Museo del Novecento in Milan, her nonconformist and anti-academic figure has been rediscovered and enhanced. The contribution reconstructs her fulminant and frantic career, divided between painting, caricature and graphic activity, highlighting her contribution to feminist activism in Italy, at the beginning of the twentieth century. With the series of temperas of 1912 The occupations of women in the family, Bisi Fabbri starts an original ironic reflection on the social role of women and on female stereotypes (animal woman, intellectual woman, congresswoman, thug…). The wish for redemption erupts instead from the thick sequence of pictorial self-portraits, where the action of excavation and self-analysis returns rebellious and libertarian states of mind. The disguise with male clothes and the masculinized pseudonym "Adrì" are tools to manage the family, the professional activity and the drama of the pressing tuberculosis with greater detachment. Finally, it will be seen how emancipation and visibility also pass through the channels of the art system, from the International Women's Exhibition of Fine Arts in Turin, organized by the magazine "La donna", to the exhibitions in the Clubs of Florence, Rome and Milan of the Lyceum feminine association.

In the last decades an innovative technique has emerged in clinical gastroenterology as a compelling alternative to the traditional wired endoscopy, known as Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE). Such cutting-edge application is able to investigate the gastrointestinal (GI) tract through a miniaturized, swallowable and biocompatible capsule, equipped with electronic components. This allows for the noninvasive measurement of biological data, that is then sent to an external receiving unit through a wireless link. This systematic review prepared according to PRISMA guidelines focuses on the main technological advances of data transmission from the in-body ingestible capsule to an external receiver. A total of 142 studies were screened from a comprehensive literature search, performed in Scopus, Science Direct, and IEEE Xplore database. A final number of 47 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. The results highlight innovative technologies to optimize the wireless link efficacy and safety to an external receiver. High gain, wideband, omnidirectional radiation pattern, and low levels of specific absorption rate (SAR) are of crucial importance. Despite the capsule telemetry design being rather advanced, the bulk of the existing studies focus on the transmission unit design, rather than the receiving one. Moreover, comprehensive numerical studies on realistic human body models are lacking.

Introduction: The use of biocompatible scaffolds combined with the implantation of neural stem cells, is increasingly being investigated to promote the regeneration of damaged neural tissue, for instance, after a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). In particular, aligned Polylactic Acid (PLA) microfibrils’ scaffolds are capable of supporting cells, promoting their survival and guiding their differentiation in neural lineage to repair the lesion. Despite its biocompatible nature, PLA is an electrically insulating material and thus it could be detrimental for increasingly common scaffolds’ electric functionalization, aimed at accelerating the cellular processes. In this context, the European RISEUP project aims to combine high intense microseconds pulses and DC stimulation with neurogenesis, supported by a PLA microfibrils’ scaffold.Methods: In this paper a numerical study on the effect of microfibrils’ scaffolds on the E-field distribution, in planar interdigitated electrodes, is presented. Realistic microfibrils’ 3D CAD models have been built to carry out a numerical dosimetry study, through Comsol Multiphysics software.Results: Under a voltage of 10 V, microfibrils redistribute the E-field values focalizing the field streamlines in the spaces between the fibers, allowing the field to pass and reach maximum values up to 100 kV/m and values comparable with the bare electrodes’ device (without fibers).Discussion: Globally the median E-field inside the scaffolded electrodes is the 90% of the nominal field, allowing an adequate cells’ exposure.

In his long creative path Armando Marrocco (Galatina, Lecce 1939) investigated with singular methodicalness also the verbovisual field, declining it in mainly procedural and relational terms and returning it back to an anthropological perspective congenial to him, both in performative practice and in the pictorial and installation dimension. The contribution focuses on this neglected aspect of his activity, analyzing in particular those actions of the Seventies in which Marrocco stages the writing as a reactivation of a primordial ritual process, steeped in memories and poetry (the two series Paleo-grafia and Rivelazione) or derived from the involvement of his body (the stampa bocca o scrittura bocca sequence). Actions that, among other things, justify the participation of the artist for about a decade, starting from 1976, in the activities promoted by Ugo Carrega's Mercato del Sale. In addition, it will be seen how this research has its roots in the experimentation undertaken by Marrocco in the Sixties when, even with the support of the Apollinaire Gallery in Milan, the reflection on identity, ecological and social issues often translates into verbovisual expression. Finally, the presence of the word will become a constant in the site-specific installations of the Eighties, accompanied by wall texts personally transcribed by the artist.

The article reconstructs the events related to the artistic operation “Banca di Oklahoma”, an ironic venture capital company (first S.r.l. and then S.p.a.) based in Lugano founded by the artist Aldo Spoldi (born in Crema, 1950) in 1988, the apex of financial immateriality, with the aim of transforming the company activities in aesthetic operations. Already in 1968 Spoldi had founded the publishing house Trieb, who was the vehicle for the purchase of works by Andy Warhol and Alighiero Boetti. Now “Bank of Oklahoma” beats coin realizing the “Brunelli”, multiples by artists, signed by the same Spoldi and by Piero Gilardi, Mario Schifano, Bertozzi & Casoni and others to buy works by young artists (Stefano Arienti, Umberto Cavenago, Salvatore Falci and many others). In 1996 the company evolved into an educational project at the Brera Academy in Milan, where he teaches, and produces virtual characters that in 2007 will become the Scientific Committee of the newly formed Accademia dello Scivolo, an association also financed by the interest earned on the purchase on the stock exchange of securities on raw materials such as water and forests and that in 2016 issued ten-year and thirty-years bonds and coined a new paper money, the “Tallero Vascavolano”.

Approdato a Milano dalla natia Cento ed entrato in contatto con il nascente gruppo dei Futuristi, Aroldo Bonzagni (Cento, 1887 – Milano, 1918) ebbe una parabola artistica di circa un decennio in cui maturò un linguaggio realista-espressionista. Alla pittura e al disegno affiancò la caricatura, l'illustrazione e la cartellonistica. E fu soprattutto in quest’ultima che si manifestò il suo sentimento politico, rafforzato dalla presentazione delle opere in alcune vetrine di via Dante e dal frequente intervento della censura. Molti dei suoi cartelloni satirici furono infatti dedicati alla cronaca (Gli sfratti in Via Palestrina, 1909) e alla politica italiana interna ed estera, dalla guerra di Libia alle rivendicazioni delle suffragette, fino alla campagna interventista agli inizi del primo conflitto mondiale. Tuttavia una lettura politica affiora anche in altri suoi temi: il lavoro e l’industria nella metropoli in crescita, gli appuntamenti mondani della borghesia milanese e le vedute popolari della periferia, teatro della vita di poveri ed emarginati (Rifiuti della società, 1918).

Introduction: Depression is a common and severe comorbidity among individuals with heart failure (HF). Up to a third of all HF patients are depressed, and an even higher proportion have symptoms of depression. Aim: In this review, we evaluate the relationship between HF and depression, explain the pathophysiology and epidemiology of both diseases and their relationship, and highlight novel diagnostic and therapeutic options for HF patients with depression. Materials and Methods: This narrative review involved keyword searches of PubMed and Web of Science. Review search terms included [“Depression” OR “Depres*” OR “major depr*”] AND [“Heart Failure” OR “HF” OR “HFrEF” OR “HFmrEF” OR “HFpEF” OR “HFimpEF”] in all fields. Studies included in the review met the following criteria: (A) published in a peer-reviewed journal; (B) described the impact of depression on HF and vice versa; and (C) were opinion papers, guidelines, case studies, descriptive studies, randomized control trials, prospective studies, retrospective studies, narrative reviews, and systematic reviews. Results: Depression is an emergent HF risk factor and strongly relates with worse clinical outcomes. HF and depression share multiple pathways, including platelet dis-reactivity, neuroendocrine malfunction, inappropriate inflammation, tachi-arrhythmias, and frailty in the social and community setting. Existing HF guidelines urge evaluation of depression in all HF patients, and numerous screening tools are available. Depression is ultimately diagnosed based on DSM-5 criteria. There are both non-pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical treatments for depression. Regarding depressed symptoms, non-pharmaceutical treatments, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and physical exercise, have shown therapeutic results, under medical supervision and with an effort level adapted to the patient’s physical resources, together with optimal HF treatment. In randomized clinical studies, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, the backbone of antidepressant treatment, did not demonstrate advantage over the placebo in patients with HF. New antidepressant medications are currently being studied and could provide a chance to enhance management, treatment, and control of depression in patients with HF. Conclusions: Despite the substantial link between depression and HF, their combination is underdiagnosed and undertreated. Considering the hopeful yet unclear findings of antidepressant trials, further research is required to identify people who may benefit from antidepressant medication. The goal of future research should be a complete approach to the care of these patients, who are anticipated to become a significant medical burden in the future.
