Abstract

A Manhattan world lying along cuboid buildings is useful for camera angle estimation. However, accurate and robust angle estimation from fisheye images in the Manhattan world has remained an open challenge because general scene images tend to lack constraints such as lines, arcs, and vanishing points. To achieve higher accuracy and robustness, we propose a learning-based calibration method that uses heatmap regression, which is similar to pose estimation using keypoints, to detect the directions of labeled image coordinates. Simultaneously, our two estimators recover the rotation and remove fisheye distortion by remapping from a general scene image. Without considering vanishing-point constraints, we find that additional points for learning-based methods can be defined. To compensate for the lack of vanishing points in images, we introduce auxiliary diagonal points that have the optimal 3D arrangement of spatial uniformity. Abstract

Although recent learning-based calibration methods can predict extrinsic and intrinsic camera parameters from a single image, the accuracy of these methods is degraded in fisheye images. This degradation is caused by mismatching between the actual projection and expected projection. To address this problem, we propose a generic camera model that has the potential to address various types of distortion. Our generic camera model is utilized for learning-based methods through a closed-form numerical calculation of the camera projection. Simultaneously to recover rotation and fisheye distortion, we propose a learning-based calibration method that uses the camera model. Furthermore, we propose a loss function that alleviates the bias of the magnitude of errors for four extrinsic and intrinsic camera parameters. Extensive experiments demonstrated that our proposed method outperformed conventional methods on two largescale datasets and images captured by off-the-shelf fisheye cameras. Moreover, we are the first researchers to analyze the performance of learning-based methods using various types of projection for off-the-shelf cameras.

Abstract

The aqueous room temperature mono-dehydration of sugar alcohols (D-sorbitol and D-mannitol) was conducted using functionalized yttrium oxide nanocatalysts prepared via sol-gel methods. Materials exhibited high selectivity to mono-dehydration products. Solvent and catalyst effects were also investigated and discussed. The introduction of titanium into the yttrium oxide framework would decrease both substrate conversion and mono-dehydration efficiency. In addition, studies of the catalytic mechanism indicate high mono-dehydration efficiency may come from the stability of the formed intermediate during catalysis. This work provides a highly efficient and benign system for catalytic mono-dehydration of sugar alcohols. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

38. The Impact of Japanese Dietary Patterns on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease and Liver Fibrosis.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Japanese dietary patterns on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and liver fibrosis. After excluding factors affecting the diagnosis of hepatic steatosis, 727 adults were analyzed as part of the Health Promotion Project. The dietary patterns of the participants were classified into rice, vegetable, seafood, and sweet based on their daily food intake. Liver stiffness measurements and controlled attenuation parameters were performed using FibroScan. Energy and nutrient intake were calculated using the Brief-type Self-administered Diet History Questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify the risk factors for liver fibrosis within the MASLD population. The vegetable group had significantly lower liver fibrosis indicators in the MASLD population than the rice group. The multivariate analysis identified a body mass index ≥ 25 kg/m2 (odds ratio [OR], 1.83; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01–1.83; p = 0.047) and HOMA-IR ≥ 1.6 (OR, 3.18; 95% CI, 1.74–5.78; p < 0.001) as risk factors for liver fibrosis, and vegetable group membership was a significant low-risk factor (OR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.16–0.88; p = 0.023). The multivariate analysis of nutrients in low-risk foods revealed high intake of α-tocopherol (OR, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.56–0.99; p = 0.039) as a significant low-risk factor for liver fibrosis. This study suggests that a vegetable-based Japanese dietary pattern, through the antioxidant effects of α-tocopherol, may help prevent liver fibrosis in MASLD and the development of MASLD. 50. Prophylactic immunoglobulin therapy for pediatric congenital myotonic dystrophy.

Abstract

Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy (CMD) is an autosomal dominant hereditary disease caused by mutations in the dystrophia myotonica protein kinase gene. Patients with CMD often exhibit low immunoglobulin (Ig) G levels. While Ig replacement therapy for low IgG levels has been reported in several adult cases, there have been no reports on pediatric patients. This study presents a first pediatric case where Ig replacement therapy effectively eliminated susceptibility to infections. The CMD patient, a 1-year-old Japanese female with a history of premature birth and necrotizing enterocolitis, developed recurrent severe bacterial infections due to hypogammaglobulinemia. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) (600 mg/kg/month) was administered but failed to maintain sufficient serum trough IgG levels. The dosage was increased to 2 g/kg/month, and later, the treatment shifted to subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG), resulting in a stable serum trough IgG level above 700 mg/dL for one year. The cause of hypogammaglobulinemia in CMD patients remains unclear, but potential mechanisms, including IgG-mediated hypercatabolism by alterations in the neonatal Fc receptor, have been considered. Genetic testing ruled out common variable immunodeficiency, and other potential causes were excluded. The study suggests that higher doses of IVIG or SCIG can effectively prevent severe infections associated with CMD-induced hypogammaglobulinemia in children. This case report sheds light on the efficacy of immunoglobulin therapy in pediatric congenital myotonic dystrophy (CMD). We anticipate that our findings will have a positive impact on clinical practice by providing insights into the prevention of severe infections associated with CMD-induced hypogammaglobulinemia. This research is of great interest to the readers of the journal as it addresses an unmet need in pediatric CMD management by providing a strategy for successful immunoglobulin therapy for the treatment of pediatric CMD.
