In addition, no reports have referred to residual urine volume in switching cases. We therefore grouped patients by condition and investigated the treatment effects of vibegron on Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS), Overactive Bladder Questionnaire Short Form (OAB-q SF), and residual urine volume in each group. Methods: This multicenter, prospective, non-interventional, observational study consecutively enrolled OAB patients with total OABSS score ≥ 3 and OABSS question 3 score ≥ 2. Sixty-three patients from six centers were recruited. Vibegron 50 mg once daily was administered for 12 weeks as first-line monotherapy (first-line group), monotherapy switching from antimuscarinics or mirabegron due to failure of prior therapy (no washout period), or combination therapy with antimuscarinics (second-line group). OABSS, OAB-q SF, and residual urine volume were collected after 4 and 12 weeks. Adverse events were also recorded at each visit. Results: Of the 63 patients registered, 61 were eligible for analysis (first line, n=36; second line, n=25). The OABSS, excluding daytime frequency scores, and OAB-q SF scale showed significant improvement in all conditions. Switching from mirabegron to vibegron significantly reduced residual urine volume. No serious treatment-related adverse events were encountered. Conclusion: Vibegron 50 mg once daily significantly improved OABSS and OAB-q SF even in patients ≥ 80 years old. Notably, switching from mirabegron to vibegron resulted in significant improvements to residual urine volume. Keywords: selective β 3-adrenoreceptor agonist, overactive bladder, residual urine volume, vibegron, mirabegron

We report on new results of a search for two-photon interaction with axionlike particles (ALPs). The experiment was carried out at a synchrotron radiation facility using a "light shining through a wall (LSW)" technique. For this purpose, we have developed a novel pulsed-magnet system, composed of multiple racetrack-magnets and a transportable power supply. It produces fields of about 10 T over 0.8 m with a high repetition rate of 0.2 Hz and yields a new method of probing vacuum with high intensity fields. The data obtained with a total of 27,676 pulses provide a limit on the ALP-two-photon coupling constant that is more stringent by a factor of 5.2 compared to a previous x-ray LSW limit for the ALP mass below 0.1 eV., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 1 table

We report a search for photon-photon elastic scattering in vacuum in the X-ray region at an energy in the center of mass system of \omega_{cms} =6.5 keV for which the QED cross section is \sigma_{QED} =2.5 \times 10^{-47} m^2. An X-ray beam provided by the SACLA X-ray Free Electron Laser is split and the two beamlets are made to collide at right angle, with a total integrated luminosity of (1.24 \pm 0.08) \times 10^{28} m^{-2}. No signal X rays from the elastic scattering that satisfy the correlation between energy and scattering angle were detected. We obtain a 95% C.L. upper limit for the scattering cross section of 1.9 \times 10^{-27} m^2 at \omega_{cms}=6.5 keV. The upper limit is the lowest upper limit obtained so far by keV experiments., Comment: 11 pages, 2 Postscript figures, 1 tables

The Barthel Index dyspnea (BI-d), an improved version of the Barthel Index (BI), may be popular in Japan. The purpose of this study was to develop the Japanese version of BI-d (J-BI-d) and investigate its reliability and validity.Patients and Methods: The J-BI-d was developed using the basic guidelines for scale translation. The study included patients with chronic respiratory disease, receiving outpatient care at two centers between January 2019 and February 2020. Scores on the J-BI-d, modified Medical Research Council scale (mMRC scale), BI, respiratory function tests, and 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) test were measured. To verify the test–retest reliability, the J-BI-d was re-administered, and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was obtained. Internal consistency was verified by Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient, and criterion-related validity was verified through a correlation analysis of the J-BI-d with mMRC scale and 6MWD test. Divergent validity was verified through correlation analysis between the J-BI-d and BI.Results: Data for 57 participants (mean age 74.4 ± 8.3 years) were analyzed, and reliability testing was performed with 42 of them. The mean time to retest was 8.1 ± 3.0 days, and the ICC (2, 1) was 0.76 (95% CI: 0.62– 0.85), indicating high reliability. Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient was 0.81, indicating high internal consistency. Correlation coefficients of the J-BI-d with 6MWD test (r = − 0.46, p < 0.01) and mMRC scale (ρ = 0.76, p < 0.01) indicated high criterion-related validity. The J-BI-d and BI had a weak negative correlation (r = − 0.29, p < 0.05), indicating high divergent validity. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate high reliability and appropriate validity of the J-BI-d in patients with chronic respiratory disease. Keywords: activities of daily living, dyspnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial lung disease, Japanese, reliability and validity

Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
In the hole-doped cuprates, a small amount of carriers suppresses antiferromagnetism and induces superconductivity. In the electron-doped cuprates, on the other hand, superconductivity appears only in a narrow range of high electron concentration ($\sim$ doped Ce content) after reduction annealing, and strong antiferromagnetic (AFM) correlation persists in the superconducting phase. Recently, Pr$_{1.3-x}$La$_{0.7}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$ (PLCCO) bulk single crystals annealed by a "protect annealing" method showed a high $T_c$ of $\sim$ 27 K for small Ce content down to $x \sim 0.05$. By angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements of PLCCO crystals, we observed a sharp quasi-particle peak on the entire Fermi surface without signature of an AFM pseudogap unlike all the previous work, indicating a dramatic reduction of AFM correlation length and/or of magnetic moments. The superconducting state was found to extend over a wide electron concentration range. The present ARPES results fundamentally change the long-standing picture on the electronic structure in the electron-doped regime., Comment: 23 pages, 7 figures

Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
We have investigated the impact of Ru substitution on the multi-band electronic structure of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$ by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The ARPES results exhibit suppression of the $xy$ Fermi surface and the spectral broadening near the zone boundaries, which can be associated with the lattice disorder introduced by the Ru substitution. The degeneracy of the Fe 3$d$ $yz$/$zx$ bands at the zone center, which is broken in FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$, is partly recovered with the Ru substitution, indicating coexistence of nematic and non-nematic electronic states., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of Ca10(Ir4As8)(Fe2_xIrxAs2)5 shows that the Fe 3d electrons in the FeAs layer form the hole-like Fermi pocket at the zone center and the electron-like Fermi pockets at the zone corners as commonly seen in various Fe-based superconductors. The FeAs layer is heavily electron doped and has relatively good two dimensionality. On the other hand, the Ir 5d electrons are metallic and glassy probably due to atomic disorder related to the Ir 5d orbital instability. Ca10(Ir4As8)(Fe2_xIrxAs2)5 exhibits a unique electronic state where the Bloch electrons in the FeAs layer coexist with the glassy electrons in the Ir4As8 layer., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

We report the first results of a search for real photon-photon scattering using X rays. A novel system is developed to split and collide X-ray pulses by applying interferometric techniques. A total of $6.5\times10^{5}$ pulses (each containing about $10^{11}$ photons) from an X-ray Free-Electron Laser are injected into the system. No scattered events are observed, and an upper limit of $1.7\times 10^{-24}$ ${\rm m^{2}}$ (95% C.L.) is obtained on the photon-photon elastic scattering cross section at 6.5 keV.

Previous studies have suggested that decreased tongue pressure causes a decline in ingesting and swallowing function and poor nutrition. This study investigated what factor(s) contribute to tongue pressure, thereby leading to frailty.Patients and methods: For the purposes of the present study, 467 residents of Hirosaki city in northern Japan aged≥60 years who completed a questionnaire about frailty and underwent an intraoral assessment, which included number of teeth, presence or absence of periodontitis, tongue pressure, and oral diadochokinesis (ODK) were recruited. Results: Of the 467 participants with complete data sets, frailty was identified in 13 (7.5%) of 173 males and in 34 (11.6%) of 294 females. Significantly fewer teeth, lower tongue pressure, and a reduced diadochokinetic syllable rate were more prevalent among frail than among healthy residents. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that age, body mass index, number of teeth, and tongue pressure significantly contributed to frailty, whereas ODK did not. Multiple regression analysis showed that tongue pressure was positively associated with muscle index and number of teeth. Conclusion: The results of the present study suggest that fewer teeth and lower tongue pressure, but not ODK function, are risk factors for developing overall frailty among older residents. Keywords: aging, low nutrition, number of teeth, oral diadochokinesis

The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of switching raloxifene with minodronate in patients who responded poorly to the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis with raloxifene. Patients and methods: This observational study was conducted based on a single-arm, non-randomized, open-label design and was approved by the institute’s institutional review board. Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who became unresponsive in terms of bone mineral density (BMD) after being administered raloxifene for two or more years were enrolled. Patients were treated with 1 mg minodronate daily or 50 mg minodronate monthly. Changes in BMD and serum bone turnover markers were monitored at baseline, 6, 12, and 24 months after switching treatment. Results: Twenty-seven patients were enrolled. Two discontinued treatment because of adverse events related to the study drug. Among the remaining 25 patients, lumbar BMD significantly increased by 3.67%, 5.08%, and 6.97% at 6, 12, and 24 months, respectively, and femoral neck BMD increased by 1.63%, 2.18%, and 3.85% at 6, 12, and 24 months, respectively. Blood sampling was performed no later than 2 weeks prior to assessment. As a reference group for SCID and CES-D evaluation, 404 age- and sex-matched healthy controls who had participated in the Iwaki Health Promotion Project were included in this study. The SCID and the CES-D scale were administered to all participants to diagnose their depression. Participants who met the criteria of a major depressive episode according to the SCID were classified as SCID depression and the participants whose CES-D score was 16 or higher were classified as CES-D depression. Results: Ninety-nine HD patients completed the evaluation and data collection. There were no significant differences in age, sex, or CES-D scores between HD patients and controls. There were 12 cases of SCID depression in HD patients and four cases in controls. There was a significant difference between HD patients and controls in the prevalence of SCID depression. There were no significant differences between the two groups with regard to demographic or clinical data. There were 19 HD patients and 24 controls who showed CES-D depression. There was no significant difference between HD patients and controls in the prevalence of CES-D depression. There was a significant difference in potassium level between the two groups, but there were no significant differences in any of the other items. Conclusion: There were significantly more HD patients showing SCID depression than controls in the present study. Aska Toda,1 Kenjiro Sawada,1 Keigo Osuga,2 Noboru Maeda,2 Hiroki Higashihara,2 Tomoyuki Sasano,1 Noriyuki Tomiyama,2 Tadashi Kimura1 1Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka, Japan Aim: The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the efficacies of uterine artery embolization (UAE) using gelatin sponge for symptomatic uterine fibroids. Methods: A series of 60 consecutive premenopausal women underwent UAE using gelatin sponge particles or porous gelatin particles. Patients were routinely followed up at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after the procedure and asked to report any procedure-related complications. At each follow-up, an original clinical questionnaire was completed by the patients to evaluate changes in fibroid-related symptoms. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging was performed before and at 3 and 12 months after the procedure, and the changes in volume of the dominant fibroid were calculated. Results: Bilateral UAE was successfully performed in all the patients. Median age was 45 years (range 34–53 years), and median follow-up period was 25.2 months (range 1–116 months). At the 3- and 12-month follow-up, the dominant fibroid volumes were found to be significantly decreased by 33.4% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 24.9–41.1) and 48.4% (95% CI: 40.7–56.1) compared to baseline volumes, respectively. Excluding patients not having menorrhagia or bulk-related symptoms, at 12 months 49 of 50 (98%) women showed improvement in menorrhagia, and 45 of 47 (95.7%) women showed improvement in bulk-related symptoms. During the follow-up period, ten patients (16.7%) required further interventions including two patients who had undergone hysterectomy. No sequelae were experienced by any of the patients. Conclusion: UAE using gelatin sponge was associated with a high clinical success rate and good fibroid volume reduction compared to UAE using other embolic agents. Akinari Inui,1 Ippei Takahashi,2 Kaori Sawada,2 Akimoto Naoki,2 Toshirou Oyama,1 Yoshihiro Tamura,1 Toshiyuki Osanai,1 Anna Satake,1 Shigeyuki Nakaji,2 Wataru Kobayashi1 1Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hirosaki University Graduate School of Medicine, 2Department of Social Medicine, Hirosaki University Graduate School of Medicine, Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan Purpose: Decline in the number of teeth and physical fitness begins from 40 years of age; however, several epidemiological studies have identified relationships between oral conditions and physical performance parameters in community-dwelling elderly population. The aim of this study was to validate the relationship between the muscle mass and its function and oral conditions (number of teeth and dental occlusion) after 40 years of age in a community-dwelling population in Japan.Materials and methods: The subjects comprised of 552 volunteers (198 males and 354 females, 40–79 years) who participated in the Iwaki Health Promotion Project in 2013. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed with the measures of the muscle mass and its function as objective variables and the measures of the number of teeth, age, body mass index, medical history, serum albumin concentration, smoking status, habitual alcohol intake, marital status, education levels, and exercising habits as explanatory variables. The relationships between the Eichner index and the muscle mass and its function were analyzed using analysis of covariance, with adjustment for confounding factors. Results: After adjusting for confounding factors, the number of teeth was shown to be an independent risk factor for the timed 10 m walk test (in females) and the skeletal muscle mass of the whole body (in males). The results also revealed that the timed 10 m walk test was significantly correlated with the Eichner index (Classes A and C in females were correlated). Conclusion: This cross-sectional study on a Japanese community-dwelling population revealed relationships between oral conditions and the muscle mass and its function. However, the interpretation of our results was hampered by a lack of data, including those on socioeconomic status and longitudinal observations. Future research exploring teeth loss and the muscle mass and its function is warranted. Keywords: number of teeth, sarcopenia, timed 10 m walk test, hand grip strength, skeletal muscle mass

Participants’ SMCs were assessed using the SMC scale. The Japanese version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies for Depression scale and the Mini-Mental State Examination were administered. Participants whose Center for Epidemiologic Studies for Depression scores were 16 or higher were defined as the depressive group and participants whose Mini-Mental State Examination scores were less than 24 were defined as the cognitive impairment group. Exploratory factor analysis was performed to identify the factor structure of the items of the SMC scale. A multiple logistic regression analysis of the association between depressive state and cognitive impairment and the score of each factor was performed. Results: In the final factor analysis model, six items of the SMC scale remained, and a two-factor structure was adequate. Factor 1 included the items 8, 9, and 10 about thought or the ability to think; thus, Factor 1 was defined as “thought disturbance factor”. Factor 2 included the items 1, 2, and 4 about memory or forgetfulness; thus, Factor 2 was defined as “memory disturbance factor”. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, Factor 1 was significantly associated with depressive state and Factor 2 was significantly associated with cognitive impairment. Conclusion: For individuals with SMCs, we might be able to discriminate depressive state or depression from cognitive impairment or dementia through a detailed investigation using the SMC scale. Keywords: geriatric psychiatry, affective disorders, primary care
