Background: Oral hypofunction is the stage before oral dysfunction. The subjective symptoms of poor oral function and the decline in oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL) that occur in the oral hypofunction stage can be missed. Objective: This multicentre cross‐sectional study was performed to examine the relationships between the test results for oral hypofunction, subjective frailty symptoms and OHRQoL of outpatients in dental clinics. Methods: The basic characteristics and oral function test results of 637 dental clinic outpatients were evaluated. The subjective symptoms of physical and oral frailty were investigated using a questionnaire. OHRQoL was assessed using the Japanese short version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP‐JP16) and OHRQoL dimension score. Results: The overall prevalence of oral hypofunction was 37.8%, with no significant difference between men and women. No significant differences in the presence or absence of subjective symptoms of frailty and a high OHIP score were observed based on sex. However, the prevalence of oral hypofunction was significantly different among the age groups and increased with age. The subjective symptoms of frailty score, OHIP score and OHRQoL dimension score were significantly higher in patients with versus without oral hypofunction. Age, number of underlying diseases, total score for subjective symptoms of frailty, total score for OHIP and OHRQoL dimension score were significantly associated with oral hypofunction. Purpose: This systematic review (SR) aimed to investigate whether the presence of a cantilever affects the results of implant treatment for partial edentulism, including an analysis of the anterior and posterior regions of the dental arches. Methods: An electronic search was performed, and original articles published between 1995 and November 2023 were included. The outcomes were the implant survival rate, patient satisfaction, occurrence of mechanical complications, and marginal bone loss around the implants. Two SR members independently examined the validity of the studies, extracted evidence from the included studies, and performed risk of bias assessment, comprehensive evidence evaluation, and meta-analysis. Results: Nine studies met our inclusion criteria. Implant survival rate tended to be lower in the cantilever group, and marginal bone loss tended to be higher in the cantilever group; however, there was no significant difference. There was no significant difference in patient satisfaction based on the presence or absence of a cantilever. Moreover, the incidence of mechanical complications was significantly higher in the cantilever group. According to the analysis of anterior and posterior regions, implant survival rate tended to be lower in the cantilever group of the posterior region, and marginal bone loss around the implants tended to be higher in the cantilever group of the anterior region. Conclusion: Implant-supported fixed prostheses with cantilevers did not negatively affect implant survival rate, marginal bone loss, or patient satisfaction. Cases of relatively safe dental implant treatment in patients with low-volume bisphosphonate (BP) have been gradually reported. Although bone augmentation is commonly used when the bone volume is insufficient for implant placement, the studies and case reports regarding the safety of bone augmentation in patients treated with BP remain insufficient. Herein, we report a case wherein bone augmentation was performed after BP treatment with bone healing realized according to imaging, and we review the literature regarding BP and bone augmentation. A 67-year-old Japanese woman requested implant treatment for a hopeless lower right second molar. She had been taking minodronic acid hydrate (50 mg/4 wk) for 18 months to treat steroid-induced osteoporosis. After obtaining informed consent, tooth extraction and bone augmentation within the extraction socket were performed. The tooth was extracted atraumatically to preserve the surrounding alveolar bone, and the extraction socket was intensely curetted. Subsequently, the socket was filled with carbonate apatite granules and covered with a biodegradable membrane, and the wound was sutured without tension. Although protracted wound healing without any symptoms of infection was observed, the wound healed completely. No clinical symptoms were observed, the color of the mucosa at the site was healthy, and imaging findings at 6 months postoperation indicated that osteogenesis had progressed uneventfully. Objectives: Intermittent administration of parathyroid hormone (PTH) increases systemic bone mass. However, the effect of PTH on osseous and soft tissue healing around implants in osteoporosis patients remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of PTH on tissue healing around implants in ovariectomized rats and to compare systemic and intraoral administration routes. Material and Methods: Implants were placed at the healed sites of ovariectomized rats 3 weeks after maxillary first molar extraction. Rats were randomly divided into two groups that received either daily systemic subcutaneous or local intraoral PTH administration. Maxillae were dissected to examine bone architectures with micro‐computed tomography images. Histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyses were performed to evaluate osseous and soft tissue healing around the implants. Results: Regardless of the administration route, PTH significantly increased bone area and the numbers of osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and osteocytes in the first and second inside and outside areas of implant threads, in addition to decreasing the number of sclerostin+ osteocytes. However, the intraoral PTH administration route was superior to the systemic route by significantly improving bone quality and promoting collagen production in the connective tissue around implants. Conclusions: Parathyroid hormone administration promoted both osseous and soft tissue healing around implants, irrespective of administration route. Interestingly, intraoral administration improved the evaluated parameters more than systemic administration. ABSTRACT Objective The study aimed to evaluate effects of air abrasion with alumina or glass beads on bond strengths of resin cements to CAD/CAM composite materials. Material and Methods CAD/CAM composite block materials [Cerasmart (CS) and Block HC (BHC)] were pretreated as follows: (a) no treatment (None), (b) application of a ceramic primer (CP), (c) alumina-blasting at 0.2 MPa (AB), (d) AB followed by CP (AB+CP), and (e) glass-beads blasting at 0.4 MPa (GBB) followed by CP (GBB+CP). The composite specimens were bonded to resin composite disks using resin cements [G-CEM Cerasmart (GCCS) and ResiCem (RC)]. The bond strengths after 24 h (TC 0) and after thermal cycling (TC 10,000 at 4–60°C) were measured by shear tests. Three-way ANOVA and the Tukey compromise post hoc tests were used to analyze statistically significant differences between groups (α=0.05). Results For both CAD/CAM composite materials, the None group exhibited a significant decrease in bond strength after TC 10,000 (p0.05).
