Abstract

Last decades have been characterized by growing attention on sustainable development. The European Commission interest in this topic is evident considering the global agreements and the related massive investments that have been, and still are, carried out to guarantee a sustainable approach to global growth. A contribution to pursue this challenging goal is provided by the EU-funded ReSHEALience Project (GA n° 760824). ReSHEALience Project aims at developing Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concretes with enhanced durability (Ultra High Durability Concrete – UHDC) that will be characterized by at least 30% longer service life as compared to traditional concretes. The increase of durability will be analyzed also from a sustainability point of view taking into account all the environmental, economic and social impacts, associated to the longer life-cycle of the structures. In this paper, comparative environmental analyses of traditional and innovative solutions for infrastructures exposed to extremely aggressive environments are presented.

"\"This paper presents initial results of a three-year research project entitled ATLANTIDE, which is aimed at developing a comprehensive digital archive of reference models of Italian distribution networks, including forecasted load and generation development evolving towards future smart grid scenarios. Such reference network models and evolutionary scenarios should provide a useful benchmark for testing and comparing different control methodologies, distribution schemes and operation strategies for dealing with the new challenges caused by the envisaged widespread diffusion and integration of distributed generation, renewable generation and distribution storage devices. Abstract

In many countries the distribution system is rapidly approaching the critical point beyond that the passive operation is no longer feasible and economic. The active distribution network aims at enabling producers and consumers to play in the energy market. The strategic goal of active distribution is a low carbon, competitive, reliable and cost effective distribution system. The paper focuses on an Optimal Power Flow algorithm for the operation of active distribution network embedded in the centralized Distribution Management System model developed within the framework of the ATLANTIDE project. Preliminary studies on the application of this model are presented and discussed in the paper. (7 pages)

Abstract

In the international research context set-up by the European Technological Platform SmartGrids, the Italian electrical energy distribution utility (ENEL Distribuzione) and the Italian electrical energy production and research utility (ENEL Produzione) launched a large national research project. The program provides the development of a test facility for the integration and test of distributed energy resources management for smart grids with of innovative solutions. The paper describes the objectives of the project and the characteristics of the test facility with reference to schemes, components, support modelling tools, control and communication systems.
