Abstract: The Atomic Clock Ensemble in Space (ACES) mission is developing high performance clocks and links for space to test Einstein's theory of general relativity. From the International Space Station, the ACES payload will distribute a clock signal with fractional frequency stability and accuracy of 1E-16 establishing a worldwide network to compare clocks in space and on the ground. ACES will provide an absolute measurement of Einstein's gravitational redshift, it will search for time variations of fundamental constants, contribute to test topological dark matter models, and perform Standard Model Extension tests. Moreover, the ground clocks connected to the ACES network will be compared over different continents and used to measure geopotential differences at the clock locations. After solving some technical problems, the ACES flight model is now approaching its completion. System tests involving the laser-cooled Cs clock PHARAO, the active H-maser SHM and the on-board frequency comparator FCDP have measured the performance of the clock signal delivered by ACES. The ACES microwave link MWL is currently under test. The single-photon avalanche detector of the optical link ELT has been tested and will now be integrated in the ACES payload. Abstract: This report summarizes the work of the EMMI Rapid Reaction Task Force on "Real and Virtual Photon Production at Ultra-Low Transverse Momentum and Low Mass at the LHC". We provide an overview of the soft-photon puzzle, i.e., of the long-standing discrepancy between experimental data and predictions based on Low's soft-photon theorem, also referred to as "anomalous" soft photon production, and we review the current theoretical understanding of soft radiation and soft theorems. We also focus on low-mass dileptons as a tool for determining the electrical conductivity of the medium produced in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. Abstract: The superb image quality, stability and sensitivity of the JWST permit deconvolution techniques to be pursued with a fidelity unavailable to ground-based observations. We present an assessment of several deconvolution approaches to improve image quality and mitigate effects of the complex JWST point spread function (PSF). The optimal deconvolution method is determined by using WebbPSF to simulate JWST's complex PSF and MIRISim to simulate multi-band JWST/Mid-Infrared Imager Module (MIRIM) observations of a toy model of an active galactic nucleus (AGN). Five different deconvolution algorithms are tested: (1) Kraken deconvolution, (2) Richardson-Lucy, (3) Adaptive Imaging Deconvolution Algorithm, (4) Sparse regularization with the Condat-V\~u algorithm, and (5) Iterative Wiener Filtering and Thresholding. We find that Kraken affords the greatest FWHM reduction of the nuclear source of our MIRISim observations for the toy AGN model while retaining good photometric integrity across all simulated wavebands. Applying Kraken to Galactic Activity, Torus, and Outflow Survey (GATOS) multi-band JWST/MIRIM observations of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 5728, we find that the algorithm reduces the FWHM of the nuclear source by a factor of 1.6-2.2 across all five filters. Kraken images facilitate detection of a SE to NW $\thicksim$2".5 ($\thicksim$470 pc, PA $\simeq$115\deg) extended nuclear emission, especially in the longest wavelengths. The matching was based on sex, age, calendar year of cohort entry date (2010– 2011, 2012, or 2013), and a propensity score that included variables such as demographics, markers of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) severity and morbidity, and comorbidities. In comparison to the unexposed matched cohort (never use), three exposure definitions were used for the exposed matched cohort: ever use, use status (current, recent, past use), and cumulative duration of use. The main outcome was 5-year all-cause mortality. Cox regression models were used to estimate crude and adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).Results: 112,541 unexposed and 23,239 exposed patients across countries were included. Some variables remained unbalanced after matching, indicating higher COPD disease severity among the exposed patients. Adjusted HRs of 5-year all-cause mortality for “ever use” of roflumilast, compared to “never use”, were 1.12 (95% CI, 1.08– 1.17) in Germany, 1.00 (95% CI, 0.92– 1.08) in Norway, 0.98 (95% CI, 0.92– 1.04) in Sweden, and 1.16 (95% CI, 1.12– 1.20) in the US. Compared to never users, there was a decrease in 5-year mortality risk observed among “current users” in Germany (HR: 0.93, 95% CI: 0.88– 0.98), Norway (HR: 0.77, 95% CI: 0.67– 0.87), and Sweden (HR: 0.80, 95% CI: 0.73– 0.88).Conclusion: There was no observed increase in 5-year mortality risk with the use of roflumilast in Sweden or Norway. 6. What is the mechanism of the $T_{4c}(6900)$ tetraquark production?

Abstract: We discuss the production mechanism of fully charm tetraquark, observed recently by the LHCb at M = 6.9 GeV in the $J/\psi J/\psi$ channel. Both single parton scattering (SPS) and double parton scattering (DPS) mechanisms are considered. We calculate the distribution in the invariant mass of the four-quark system $M_{4c}$ for SPS and DPS production of $c c \bar c \bar c$ in the $k_t$-factorization approach. We present transverse momentum distribution in $p_{t,4c}$ for $c \bar c c \bar c$ system in a mass window around tetraquark mass. Abstract: The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany, provides unique possibilities for a new generation of hadron-, nuclear- and atomic physics experiments. The future antiProton ANnihilations at DArmstadt (PANDA or $\overline{\rm P}$ANDA) experiment at FAIR will offer a broad physics programme, covering different aspects of the strong interaction. Understanding the latter in the non-perturbative regime remains one of the greatest challenges in contemporary physics. The antiproton-nucleon interaction studied with PANDA provides crucial tests in this area. Furthermore, the high-intensity, low-energy domain of PANDA allows for searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g. through high precision symmetry tests. This paper takes into account a staged approach for the detector setup and for the delivered luminosity from the accelerator. The available detector setup at the time of the delivery of the first antiproton beams in the HESR storage ring is referred to as the \textit{Phase One} setup. Abstract: PANDA (anti-Proton ANnihiliation at DArmstadt) is planned to be one of the four main experiments at the future international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. It is going to address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using cooled antiproton beams with a high intensity and and momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c. PANDA is designed to reach a maximum luminosity of 2x10^32 cm^2 s. Most of the physics programs require an excellent particle identification (PID). The PID of hadronic states at the forward endcap of the target spectrometer will be done by a fast and compact Cherenkov detector that uses the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) principle. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 5{\deg} to 22{\deg} and to provide a separation power for the separation of charged pions and kaons up to 3 standard deviations (s.d.) for particle momenta up to 4 GeV/c in order to cover the important particle phase space. This document describes the technical design and the expected performance of the novel PANDA Disc DIRC detector that has not been used in any other high energy physics experiment (HEP) before. The performance has been studied with Monte-Carlo simulations and various beam tests at DESY and CERN. 10. Exclusive production of $\phi$ meson in the $\gamma^*\,p \to \phi\,p$ reaction at large photon virtualities within $k_T$-factorization approach

Abstract: We apply the $k_T$-factorization approach to the production of $\phi$ meson in deep-inelastic scattering. The helicity-conserving $\gamma^*(T,L) \to \phi$ impact factor is calculated for longitudinal and transverse photon polarization using $\phi$ meson distribution amplitudes. Different unintegrated gluon distributions are used in the calculations. The formalism for massless quarks/antiquarks gives too large transverse and longitudinal cross sections for photon virtualities below $Q^2\sim 8 \, \rm{GeV}^2$. We suggest how to improve the description of the HERA data by introducing effective strange quark masses into the formalism. We derive the corresponding massive impact factor by comparing to the light-cone wave function representation used in previous $k_T$-factorization calculations and the color-dipole approaches. As a byproduct we present expressions for higher twist-amplitudes as weighted integrals over the light-cone wave function. The quark mass $m_q \approx 0.5$ GeV allows to improve the description of both longitudinal and transverse cross section down to $Q^2 \sim$ 4 GeV$^2$. We present also the polarized cross section ratio $\sigma_L/\sigma_T$ and the behavior of the total cross section $\sigma_{tot} = \sigma_{L} + \sigma_{T}$ as a function of photon virtuality., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures

Abstract: The exclusive charmonium production process in $\bar{p}p$ annihilation with an associated $\pi^0$ meson $\bar{p}p\to J/\psi\pi^0$ is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the $J/\psi\to e^+e^-$ decay channel with the PANDA (AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including the $\bar{p}p\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ and $\bar{p}p\to J/\psi\pi^0\pi^0$ reactions are performed with PandaRoot, the simulation and analysis software framework of the PANDA experiment. It is shown that the measurement can be done at PANDA with significant constraining power under the assumption of an integrated luminosity attainable in four to five months of data taking at the maximum design luminosity., Comment: 25 pages, 22 figures

Abstract: Simulation results for future measurements of electromagnetic proton form factors at \PANDA (FAIR) within the PandaRoot software framework are reported. The statistical precision with which the proton form factors can be determined is estimated. The signal channel $\bar p p \to e^+ e^-$ is studied on the basis of two different but consistent procedures. The suppression of the main background channel, $\textit{i.e.}$ $\bar p p \to \pi^+ \pi^-$, is studied. Furthermore, the background versus signal efficiency, statistical and systematical uncertainties on the extracted proton form factors are evaluated using two different procedures. The results are consistent with those of a previous simulation study using an older, simplified framework. However, a slightly better precision is achieved in the PandaRoot study in a large range of momentum transfer, assuming the nominal beam conditions and detector performance.

Abstract: Baryon-to-meson Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs) encoding valuable new information on hadron structure appear as building blocks in the collinear factorized description for several types of hard exclusive reactions. In this paper, we address the possibility of accessing nucleon-to-pion ($\pi N$) TDAs from $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- \pi^0$ reaction with the future \={P}ANDA detector at the FAIR facility. At high center of mass energy and high invariant mass squared of the lepton pair $q^2$, the amplitude of the signal channel $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- \pi^0$ admits a QCD factorized description in terms of $\pi N$ TDAs and nucleon Distribution Amplitudes (DAs) in the forward and backward kinematic regimes. Assuming the validity of this factorized description, we perform feasibility studies for measuring $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- \pi^0$ with the \={P}ANDA detector. Detailed simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as on rejection of the most severe background channel, i.e. $\bar{p}p \to \pi^+\pi^- \pi^0$ were performed for the center of mass energy squared $s = 5$ GeV$^2$ and $s = 10$ GeV$^2$, in the kinematic regions $3.0 < q^2 < 4.3$ GeV$^2$ and $5 < q^2 < 9$ GeV$^2$, respectively, with a neutral pion scattered in the forward or backward cone $| \cos\theta_{\pi^0}| > 0.5 $ in the proton-antiproton center of mass frame. Results of the simulation show that the particle identification capabilities of the \={P}ANDA detector will allow to achieve a background rejection factor of $5\cdot 10^7$ ($1\cdot 10^7$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=5$ GeV$^2$, and of $1\cdot 10^8$ ($6\cdot 10^6$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=10$ GeV$^2$, while keeping the signal reconstruction efficiency at around $40\%$. At both energies, a clean lepton signal can be reconstructed with the expected statistics corresponding to $2$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. Abstract: We focus on the problem of disentangling the single (SPS) and double (DPS) parton scattering modes in the production of \J pairs at the LHC conditions. Our analysis is based on comparing the shapes of the differential cross sections and on studying their behavior under imposing kinematical cuts. On the SPS side, we consider the leading-order ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^4)$ contribution with radiative corrections (taken into account in the framework of the \ktf approach) and the subleading ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^6)$ contribution from \pd ~gluon-gluon scattering represented by one gluon exchange and two gluon exchange mechanisms. We come to the conclusion that disentangling the SPS and DPS modes is rather difficult on the basis of azimuthal correlations, while the rapidity difference looks more promising, provided the acceptance of the experimental detectors has enough rapidity range., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: This document describes the technical layout and the expected performance of the Straw Tube Tracker (STT), the main tracking detector of the PANDA target spectrometer. The STT encloses a Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) for the inner tracking and is followed in beam direction by a set of GEM-stations. The tasks of the STT are the measurement of the particle momentum from the reconstructed trajectory and the measurement of the specific energy-loss for a particle identification. Dedicated simulations with full analysis studies of certain proton-antiproton reactions, identified as being benchmark tests for the whole PANDA scientific program, have been performed to test the STT layout and performance. 19. Exclusive diffractive photoproduction of dileptons by timelike Compton scattering

Abstract: We derive the forward photoproduction amplitude for the diffractive $\gamma p \to l^+ l^- p$ reaction in the momentum space. within the formalism of $k_\perp$- factorization. Predictions for the $\gamma p \to l^+ l^- p$ reaction are given using unintegrated gluon distribution from the literature. We calculate the total cross section as a function of photon-proton center of mass energy and the invariant mass distribution of the lepton pair. We also discuss whether the production of timelike virtual photons can be approximated by continuing to the spacelike domain $ q^2 < 0$. The present calculation provides an input for future predictions for exclusive hadroproduction in the $p p \to p l^+ l^- p$ reaction., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: Protons and antiprotons at collider energies are a source of high energy Weizsaecker--Williams photons. This opens up a possibility to study at the LHC exclusive photoproduction of heavy vector mesons at energies much larger than possible at the HERA accelerator. We present selected results of our detailed studies of various distributions for the production of heavy quarkonia (e.g. rapidity, transverse momenta, azimuthal angles). We give predictions for LHC energies. Our calculations are based on modelling the photoproduction amplitudes in a k_\perp-factorisation approach which is checked against HERA data. Abstract: We extend the k_\perp-factorization formalism for exclusive photoproduction of vector mesons to the production of electroweak Z^0 bosons. Predictions for the gamma p \to Z^0 p and p p \to p p Z^0 reactions are given using an unintegrated gluon distribution tested against deep inelastic data. We present distributions in the Z^0 rapidity, transverse momentum of Z^0 as well as in relative azimuthal angle between outgoing protons. The contributions of different flavours are discussed. Absorption effects lower the cross section by a factor of 1.5-2, depending on the Z-boson rapidity. We also discuss the production of Z^0 bosons in central inclusive production. Here rapidity and (x_{\Pom,1}, x_{\Pom,2}) distributions of Z^0 are calculated. Abstract: To study fundamental questions of hadron and nuclear physics in interactions of antiprotons with nucleons and nuclei, the universal PANDA detector will be built. Gluonic excitations, the physics of strange and charm quarks and nucleon structure studies will be performed with unprecedented accuracy thereby allowing high-precision tests of the strong interaction. The proposed PANDA detector is a state-of-the art internal target detector at the HESR at FAIR allowing the detection and identification of neutral and charged particles generated within the relevant angular and energy range. 25. Exclusive production of rho^0 rho^0 pairs in gamma-gamma collisions at RHIC

Abstract: We discuss exclusive electromagnetic production of two neutral $\rho$ mesons in coherent photon-photon processes in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. The cross section is calculated in the equivalent photon approximation (EPA). Both uncertainties of the flux factors and photon-photon cross sections are discussed in details. We show that inclusion of precise charge densities in nuclei is essential for realistic evaluations of the nuclear photon-photon cross sections. We find that the cross section, especially with realistic flux factors, is sensitive to low energy in the subsystem $\gamma \gamma \to \rho^0 \rho^0$. The experimental data for the $\gamma \gamma \to \rho^0 \rho^0$ cross section extracted from $e^+ e^-$ collisions are parametrized and used to estimate the nucleus-nucleus cross section. In addition, we include vector-dominance-model(VDM)--Regge contribution which becomes important at large photon-photon energy. Large nuclear cross sections are obtained. We discuss a possibility of focusing on the large-energy component. We find that both $\rho^0$ mesons are produced predominantly at midrapidities and could be measured by the STAR collaboration at RHIC., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures; reference added/corrected

Abstract: With nuclear targets comes a new scale into the pQCD description of hard processes - the saturation scale. In the saturation regime, the familiar linear k_\perp-factorization breaks down and must be replaced by a nonlinear k_\perp-factorization, which accounts for absorptive and multiple scattering corrections to the hard process. Predictions for partial cross sections corresponding to a fixed number of cut Pomerons (the topological cross sections) can be obtained in a surprisingly straightforward manner. 34. Exclusive photoproduction of $J/\psi$ in proton-proton and proton-antiproton scattering

Abstract: Protons and antiprotons at collider energies are a source of high energy Weizs\"acker--Williams photons. This may open a possibility to study exclusive photoproduction of heavy vector mesons at energies much larger than possible at the HERA accelerator. Here we present a detailed investigation of the exclusive $J/\psi$ photoproduction in proton-proton (RHIC, LHC) and proton-antiproton (Tevatron) collisions. We calculate several differential distributions in $t_1, t_2, y, \phi$, as well as transverse momentum distributions of $J/\Psi$'s. We discuss correlations in the azimuthal angle between outgoing protons or proton and antiproton as well as in the ($t_1, t_2$) space. Differently from electroproduction experiments, here both colliding beam particles can be a source of photons, and we find large interference terms in azimuthal angle distributions in a broad range of rapidities of the produced meson. We also include the spin--flip parts in the electromagnetic vertices. We discuss the effect of absorptive corrections on various distributions. Interestingly, absorption corrections induce a charge asymmetry in rapidity distributions, and are larger for $p p$ reactions than for the $p \bar p$ case. Abstract: At the partonic level, a typical final state in small-x deep inelastic scattering off nuclei and hard proton-nucleus collisions can be characterized by the multiplicity of color-excited nucleons. Within reggeon field theory, each color-excited nucleon is associated with the unitarity cut of the pomeron exchanged between the projectile and nucleus. In this communication we derive the unitarity rules for the multiplicity of excited nucleons, alias cut pomerons, alias topological cross sections, for typical hard dijet production processes. We demonstrate how the coupled-channel non-Abelian intranuclear evolution of color dipoles, inherent to pQCD, gives rise to the reggeon field theory diagrams for final states in terms of the uncut, and two kinds of cut, pomerons. Upon the proper identification of the uncut and cut pomeron exchanges, the topological cross sections for dijet production follow in a straightforward way from the earlier derived nonlinear k_t - factorization quadratures for the inclusive dijet cross sections. The concept of a coherent (collective) nuclear glue proves extremely useful for the formulation of reggeon field theory vertices of multipomeron - cut and uncut - couplings to particles and between themselves. A departure of our unitarity cutting rules from the ones suggested by the pre-QCD Abramovsky-Kancheli-Gribov rules, stems from the coupled-channel features of intranuclear pQCD. 39. Quenching of Leading Jets and Particles: the p_t Dependent Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect from Nonlinear k_t Factorization

Abstract: We report the first derivation of the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect for leading jets at fixed values of the transverse momentum p_t in the beam fragmentation region of hadron-nucleus collisions from RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) to LHC (Large Hadron Collider). The major novelty of this work is a derivation of the missing virtual radiative pQCD correction to these processes - the real-emission radiative corrections are already available in the literature. We manifestly implement the unitarity relation, which in the simplest form requires that upon summing over the virtual and real-emission corrections the total number of scattered quarks must exactly equal unity. For the free-nucleon target, the leading jet spectrum is shown to satisfy the familiar linear Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov leading log(1/x) (LL-1/x) evolution. For nuclear targets, the nonlinear k_t-factorization for the LL-1/x evolution of the leading jet sepctrum is shown to exactly match the equally nonlinear LL-1/x evolution of the collective nuclear glue - there emerges a unique linear k_t-factorization relation between the two nonlinear evolving nuclear observables. We argue that within the standard dilute uncorrelated nucleonic gas treatment of heavy nuclei, in the finite energy range from RHIC to LHC, the leading jet spectrum can be evolved in the LL-1/x Balitsky-Kovchegov approximation. This process is of direct relevance to dijets in the proton hemisphere of proton-nucleus collisions at energies of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The major technical problem is a consistent description of the non-Abelian intranuclear evolution of multiparton systems of color dipoles. Following the technique developed in our early work [ N.N. Nikolaev, W. Sch\"afer, B.G. Zakharov and V.R. Zoller, J. Exp. Theor. Phys.\ {\bf 97} (2003) 441], we reduce the description of the intranuclear evolution of the $qgg\bar{q}$ state to the system of three coupled-channel equations in the space of color singlet 4-parton states $\ket{3\bar{3}}, \ket{6\bar{6}}$ and $\ket{15\bar{15}}$ (and their large-N_c generalizations). At large number of colors N_c, the eigenstate $(\ket{6\bar{6}}-\ket{15\bar{15}})/\sqrt{2}$ decouples from the initial state $\ket{3\bar{3}}$. The resulting nuclear distortions of the dijet spectrum exhibit much similarity to those found earlier for forward dijets in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS). Still there are certain distinctions regarding the contribution from color-triplet $qg$ final states and from coherent diffraction excitation of dijets. Abstract: The linear k_\perp-factorization is part and parcel of the pQCD description of high energy hard processes off free nucleons. In the case of heavy nuclear targets the very concept of nuclear parton density becomes ill-defined as exemplified by the recent derivation [2] of nonlinear nuclear k_\perp-factorization for forward dijet production in DIS off nuclei. Here we report a derivation of the related breaking of k_\perp-factorization for single-jet processes. We present a general formalism and apply it to several cases of practical interest: open charm and quark and gluon jet production in the central to beam fragmentation region of \gamma^*p,\gamma^*A, pp and pA collisions. We show how the pattern of k_\perp-factorization breaking and the nature and number of exchanged nuclear pomerons do change within the phase space of produced quark and gluon jets. 50. Why Breakup of Photons and Pions into Forward Dijets Is so Different: Predictions from Nonlinear Nuclear k_t-factorization

Abstract: Based on an approach to non-Abelian propagation of color dipoles in a nuclear medium we formulate a nonlinear k_t-factorization for the breakup of photons and pions into forward hard dijets in terms of the collective Weizs\"acker-Williams (WW) glue of nuclei. We find quite distinct practical consequences of nonlinear nuclear k_t-factorization for interactions of pointlike photons and non-pointlike pions. In the former case the large transverse momentum p_t of jets comes from the intrinsic momentum of quarks and antiquarks in the photon and nuclear effects manifest themselves as an azimuthal decorrelation with an acoplanarity momentum of the order of the nuclear saturation momentum Q_A. In the breakup of pions off free nucleons to the leading order in pQCD the spectator parton has a small transverse momentum and the hard dijet cross section is suppressed. In the breakup of pions off heavy nuclei the forward hard jets are predicted to be entirely decorrelated.
