Abstract

Thin-walled structural components often tend to chatter vibrations due to their compliancy. Modal analyses can be used to calculate stability maps and avoid chatter vibrations, but this is time-consuming. ZeTeM Bremen and IFW Hannover together with Airbus GmbH are researching a software-based approach to simulate the frequency response function (FRF). Coupling NC and FE simulation allows for a simulative approximation of the component dynamics., Dünnwandige Strukturbauteile neigen aufgrund der Schwingungsanfälligkeit häufig zu Ratterschwingungen. Durch eine Modalanalyse können Stabilitätskarten berechnet und Ratterschwingungen vermieden werden, was sehr aufwendig ist. Das ZeTeM Bremen und das Institut für Fertigungstechnik und Werkzeugmaschinen IFW Hannover erforschen mit der Airbus GmbH einen softwarebasierten Ansatz zur Simulation von Nachgiebigkeitsfrequenzgängen. Durch eine Kopplung von NC- und FE-Simulation erfolgt eine simulative Abschätzung des Bauteilschwingungsverhaltens

Abstract

Tool grinding is a fundamental process step when manufacturing cylindrical cemented carbide tools. A deeper understanding of the relationship between heat generation, heat transfer and fluid dynamics is essential to optimize the application of cooling lubrication. Due to the porous structure of the grinding tool as well as the rough surfaces of tool and workpiece, this inherently leads to multiscale problems. In this paper, an approach for modeling the heat transfer between the grinding tool, the workpiece and coolant on the microscale and mesoscale is introduced, including the effective influence of the porous structure. As a basis for the simulations, experimental investigations are conducted using individual abrasive grains. A linear relationship between the single grain chip cross section and the tangential force is established with an average RMSE of 1.421 N, allowing the total heat flux to be calculated. The results are then transferred to continuous and discontinuous 2D multiscale fluid dynamic simulations in order to predict heat generation and to potentially optimize the cooling lubrication in grinding processes.

On May 11, 2017, a seminar on "Open Access and Linked Open Data" (LOD) took place in Vienna, to which 25 representatives of libraries, archives and museums were invited. On September 13, 2017, a panel on "Digitalisation in libraries, archives and museums" was organized in the framework of the 33rd Austrian Library Day in Linz, in which about 90 people took part.

The Austrian National Library according to its statutory mandate and its self-understanding is not only a service institution for scientific research, but at the same time itself a research institution. This is especially true for special holdings for which bibliographic indexing cannot be strictly separated from scientific research, such as literary estates and historical manuscripts, papyri, etc. The collaborations of the ANL with universities in the field of Papyrology, within the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the History and Theory of Biography and Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Neo-Latin as well as in the Interuniversity Course „Library and Information Studies (MSc)“ are briefly introduced.

Abstract

In micro manufacturing, a precise configuration of manufacturing processes constitutes an essential factor for success. The continuing miniaturization of work pieces results in ever decreasing tolerances, whereas machines and processes become more and more specialized. As a result, a precise determination of each process result is important to guarantee the final product quality. Unfortunately, so called size effects often prevent the direct transfer of knowledge from the area of macro manufacturing. To cope with these effects, finite element simulations provide a suitable tool to simulate forming processes and their results in advance and to perform parameter studies in order to analyze the process and effect interdependencies. Unfortunately, these simulations usually require a rather long computing time, so that only simulations for a small subset of the available parameter range can be performed in a reasonable planning interval. In this context, this article presents an application of the method “Micro – Process Planning and Analysis” (μ-ProPlAn) for the configuration of laser rod end melting, which is used to create preforms for further forming processes. This method uses cause-effect networks, to combine expert knowledge with methods from artificial intelligence to estimate the result of laser melting processes quickly. For this purpose, the cause-effect networks are trained using a finite element simulation of the laser process using different process parameters and varying rod diameters. Results show a high accuracy for the prediction of the finite element simulation results. This article focusses on the validation of these cause-effect networks in comparison to the real laser rod end melting process and demonstrates how these models can be used to predict the resulting volume, eccentricity and the largest diameter of the solidified preform for different process configurations.

A House of Poetry. - The New Literature Museum of the Austrian National Library In April 2015 the Austrian National Library opened the Literature Museum, its fourth affiliated museum in the so-called "Grillparzer House". Here in the former k.k. Hofkammerarchiv, which Franz Grillparzer had led over two decades as director, his authentic office room can still be found. The museum offers in 45 thematic and chronological stations a multimedia tour through the Austrian literature from the Age of Enlightenment to the present. In addition, it will act with a multifaceted program of events - and from 2016 also with regular temporary exhibition - as a lively meeting place for all those interested in literature.
